New York Giants vs. New England Patriots -12 O/U 54

Super Bowl XLII
New England Patriots vs. New York Giants6:30pm EST 02-03-2008Line: Patriots (-12) vs. Giants (+12) Over/Under 54
The Patriots look to complete their perfect season by defeating the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII in Glendale Arizona.Super Bowl XLII is shaping up to be the biggest NFL game of all time. We have a New York team in the Giants, from the biggest city in the US. We have New England, the best franchise in this millennium, making their 4th visit to the Super Bowl in 7 years. We'll have superstars QB's Eli Manning vs. Tom Brady, WR's Plaxico Burress vs. Randy Moss, and on defense Osi Umenyiora and Michael Strahan vs. Teddy Bruschi and Mike Vrabel. The star power and the popularity of these teams will create the most watched game in NFL history.

The Giants are coming off 3 impressive playoff road wins, going through Tampa Bay, Dallas and Green Bay. In fact, the Giants had to beat the #1, #2 and #4 seeds in the NFC to get to the Super Bowl. The key to the Giants success, only 1 turnover in their 3 playoff wins. They are taking care of the ball and not giving teams any easy opportunities. QB Eli Manning is playing the best football of his career. In his last 4 games, including the week 17 loss to the Patriots, Manning has 110.1 passing rating, has thrown 8 TD's, and has only 1 interception. To put his passing rating into perspective, his rating in his last 4 games would be only second in the NFL to MVP Tom Brady's 117.2 And remember, he did that against the Patriots, Buccaneers, Cowboys and Packers defensives, who rank 2nd, 4th, 9th and 11th on defense respectively. Bottom line, Manning is playing great football and will need to continue for his team to have a chance. On defense, the Giants have a great defensive line which is crucial against this Patriot offense. The Giants lead the NFL in sacks with 53 on the year. Of those 53 sacks, 40.5 sacks came from their front four. That's very impressive and will need to continue for them to have a chance against the Patriots..

As for the Patriots, everyone knows about their 18 game win season and their chance of perfection. But this team has been brutal against the spread of late. They have not covered in 5 games and are 2-8 ATS in their last 10. While they're winning games, they're simply not blowing teams out like they were to start the season. A lot of that can be blamed on the weather and the conditions they've been playing in. Of their last 10 games, only their game vs. the Colts was played in ideal conditions for this team, being played in Indianapolis in the RCA Dome. Their remaining 9 games all came outdoors in cold and difficult conditions. That won't be the case in their Super Bowl matchup, which will be played in a dome on a nice fast track in Arizona. WR Randy Moss has been held to just 2 receptions in the playoffs, look for him to go off against an undermanned Giants secondary. The Giants will have a very difficult time matching up with the Patriots 4 wide receiver set, led by Wes Welker, who led the NFL with 112 receptions.
With the Patriots struggling vs. the spread and the Giants riding a 5 game win streak vs. the number, so far we've seen nothing but Giants money in this game. This game opened 13 and was bet quickly to 12. Bettors are still backing the Giants at the current number and I would not be surprised if this line closed 11. But this is the Super Bowl, so there is plenty of opportunity to bet this game other than vs. the spread. Belmont.com will have more props and ways to bet this game than any other book in the world. There will be over a thousand different betting options for this game so make sure to check back daily for more fun ways to bet what should be a very exciting Super Bowl.

Trail Blazers -4

The Heat are mired in an 11 game losing streak and have only won 4 times in 16 tries on their home court. Dwyane Wade was quoted as saying this week "We lose every time. We lose and it's a fact of life. It's not easy." So look for the Blazers to bounce back from a disappointing effort against the Celtics Wednesday night. I take the Trail Blazers in this one to to send the Heat to their f12th straight loss.

Knicks +7.5

The Knicks have won two in a row, and the first 2 games of their series against the Nets this year. With the Knicks coming off two impressive wins against 2 of the better teams in the East, their matchup with the struggling Nets should be a cake walk. The Nets are struglling coming off a loss to the Trail blazers monday night where they lost by double digits. There is an interesting story in the New York Post about the struggles of the Nets this year. Any way I look for the Knicks to continue there dominance over the Nets and cover the spread in this game if not win it out right. So I take the points and the Knicks.

Wizards -2.5 (-110)

The Knicks upset the Pistons on Sunday night winning 89-65, this win is a mirage I completely expect this Knicks team to go back to their losing ways tonight as they face the red hot Wizards. The Wizards are coming off back to back wins over the first place Celtics and are winners of their last 3. With such a low number for the Wizards to cover in this game I take the Wiz and the points.

NY Giants +7.5

This could be the only upset of the weekend, with the Giants coming into this game playing some of their best football of the year and the Cowboys coming off a first round bye and a dismal finish to the year. If Eli Manning can hold it together and not melt down and the Giants defense can hold Romo and T.O in check they have a very good chance to win this game outright. I think this game will come down to who's defense is better on this day. I take the Giants in this spot to at least cover if not win outright.

You have to like the over in this game, between the Jazz and the Suns. Both theses teams have very explosive offenses and are capable of putting up points in a hurry.
Jacksonville Jaguars @ New England Patriots8:10pm EST 01-12-2008Line: Jaguars (+13) @ Patriots (-13) over/Under 49The Patriots look to continue their perfect season as they play their first playoff game this Saturday against the Jaguars.Patriots -13

This is a great spot for the Pats and they have proven in the past to shine in this role. They are coming off a perfect regular season, but more importantly they are coming off a bye and going up against a team that was on life support last week vs. the Steelers. The Jaguars choked away an 18 point lead, only to come back in the final seconds for an epic and emotional win. That game went down to the wire and was an exhausting effort for the Jags. It was also an emotional win, as it looked pretty bad for this team in the waning minutes of the game. I'm not sure how this team will respond off such an exhausting and emotional win. They take on a very healthy and very rested Patriots team that have been blowing teams out all season.
The Patriots are 6-0 straight up in their last 6 home playoffs game, 4-0 ATS in their last 4. The margins in those games have been by 21, 25, 17 and 10 points, so 3 of their last 4 wins at home have been by bigger margins than this 13 point spread. And to be fair, those Patriot teams were no where near as good as this current team. They certainly weren't as explosive on offense as this team. Head Coach Bill Belichick is a brilliant defensive strategist; he will find ways to make things tough for the Jags young QB David Garrard. Garrard played his worst game of the season last week vs. the Steelers. He completed only 9 of 21 passes for 140 yards with 2 interceptions. Now he takes on a Patriots defense that will have him guessing all game. They will show him different fronts and schemes that this inexperienced QB has never seen. The Patriots will blow out this Jags team that is happy to have just won last week in Pittsburgh.

Can the Giants sustain the same type of intensity they showed in the last game of the season versus the Patriots?
Perry's Play of the Day - Playoff Style
Tampa Bay -3 vs NY Giants

Gotta admit, Giants really impressed me last week with the effort they gave against the Patriots. I think that game may have wore on them a bit physically. Look for Tampa's offense to pound the running game in an effort to wear them down early. Mentally, Jeff Garcia is a much more better big-game quarterback than Eli Manning. The Giants also have some injury concerns. Cornerbacks Sam Madison and Kevin Dockery are both questionable for this game. Also, not having Jeremy Shockey around also hurts Eli's chances at finally garnering playoff success. Bucs' take it 24-17.

Washington Redskins +3 @ Seattle Seahawks

Having defeated both the Giants and Vikings on the road, and then the Cowboys at home to close the season, the 'Skins are one of the hottest teams in the league. They are not only playing with confidence, they are playing for a fallen teammate in Sean Taylor. Seattle will be a formidable opponent, and I really like how Matt Hasselbeck played this year, despite his best wide receiver, Deion Branch, out a good portion of the year. Washington should cover the points, as they have a decided advantage at receiver, notably Antwaan Randle El and Chris Cooley. Washington wins outright 21-20.
