Are Blasts Of Big Income Created In Chunks (Specific Moments)?

Have you ever stopped and pondered the question: “How Are Big Blasts of Money Made?” Or, “How Can I Apply LEVERAGE To Earn More Money?”

Yesterday, through a little “epiphany” I had while reading a book and then catching a few minutes of a professional basketball game…

I started to contemplate the concept of how very successful individuals make most of their money – and I began to pinpoint a specific pattern that I wanted to share with you, because I see a valuable lesson in it for all of us.

When you think of a millionaire or multi-millionaire, what comes to mind about the actual process of how their big money is made? Not necessarily in every case, but many times these chunks of income are created through short, specific moments that happen as a person is “in the zone” of high productivity (as a result of becoming a master at their craft). And surprisingly, most of these blasts of income are NOT generated from doing highly productive tasks every single day all year – but rather through laser-focused “chunks of productive time” in various forms.

For instance:

Actors – may be intensely shooting a movie for a 4-5 month time frame, and then have several weeks or even months off.
Professional Athletes – perform at high levels of productivity for a specified number of timed events (games), but then get an “off-season” with no games.
Real Estate Agents/Investors – make big chunks of leveraged money (or commissions) through various “deals” done at different times.
Musicians – intensely spend a chunk of time recording an album, and then have a “release” of that album where a big chunk of money is earned at that specified time. They also may have tours in which they perform at high levels of productivity for several specified days during the tour schedule (in which they earn chunks of income for each event).
Experts and Guru’s – have various “product launches” or seminars each time they come out with something new, that brings in a big chunk of their annual income.
Some Business Owners and CEO’s – earn chunks of their income through specific decisions and leveraged delegations they make at various times during the year.
Inventors or Product Creators – many times will spend chunks of focused time creating a product, and then leverage their earning power by landing some infomercials or by selling their rights to that product/invention to a high paying investor. Some will create income leverage by teaming up with an individual or company that can promote or gain massive exposure for their product.

Of course, there are other wealthy individuals that this certain point may not always ring true with…

But, the point is that if you want to follow in the footsteps of those who have mastered the art of “money chunks” and income leverage power – you should study the business philosophy of time/effort “chunking”.

First, you’ll notice that in the above examples – these individuals are foremost leveraging a high performance income generation vehicle (their work, career). This assists them in being able to earn large sums of money, while technically working FEWER hours than the average person does. That is why it is so important to select and put your hard work into a income generation vehicle that is highly leveraged in producing larger amounts of income than what a typical job could offer.

Secondly, these individuals have become a master at their craft – which allows them to earn even MORE money in the career they have chosen. For some it may have taken months of hard, focused effort/practice before they could even achieve any success in their work; and others possibly years of mastering their craft.

Lastly, these people understand and use the principle of knowing how to spend their truly productive (in the zone) time wisely – to focus it on the activities that can produce the majority of their income. They don’t always have to go all out every second of every day to create the income level that they do – and because of this, they are much less likely to get burned out in their career (and they are able to truly enjoy what they do).

I know some of you may just be looking to generate some extra upfront cash, and maybe not the big money at this point…

But for all of us, there are some important lessons we can learn from here:

=> Aside from the 3 things listed above, when it comes to your job as an affiliate marketer – always be looking and open for ways to increase LEVERAGE in all areas. Such as:

Leverage in your marketing efforts (use highly effective marketing methods that get your message directly in front of your target niche market in the most productive way).
Leverage in your marketing exposure/platform (look for ways to leverage your existing or new marketing pieces so that they get as much exposure as possible with the least amount of time needed for you to work on them in the process). In other words, look for platforms where you can create one or two great pieces of marketing and get it exposed to a bigger number of people. If you have been using all “free” methods of marketing – if you have the budget for it, try mixing in some low cost “paid” marketing to help balance your efforts and get you exposed to more people in a short time frame. There ARE other low cost ways to get in front of more people, if you do some research.
Leverage in your business relationships (be on the lookout for potential relationships/partnerships with others who posses certain skills, networks, or platforms that you are not in or proficient with – and leverage off of their experience, platform, list, connections, skills, etc. to help move your efforts forward in a way you may not be able to do all by yourself).
Leverage in your time spent on specific activities (spend the most time on activities that bring the most benefit/profit to you, such as effective marketing – and start tracking your actual activities and time spent on them to empower yourself to know if you are spending your time wisely). Learn to work in “chunks”, or specific time frames where you are at a very high level of productivity and are solely focused and concentrated on one particular task intensely – and then have the ability to get more done in less time as a result.
Leverage in your training and education (learn how to discern exactly which trainings, webinars, books, cd’s, and so forth you truly need right now to help you reach your objective – and let all the unnecessary ones go.) Education is essential for CERTAIN things at CERTAIN times to accomplish a SPECIFIC outcome/task, but you can’t afford to spend your valuable time always “training” on something that may not be directly related to helping you achieve the exact task or objective at hand. Go get the eye-opening book “The 4-Hour Workweek” by Timothy Ferriss, and read for yourself why “selective ignorance” can actually INCREASE your potential, your leverage, and your income!

Life is made up of specific moments and decisions…

And it is very empowering to know that we have all of the information, ability, and time at our fingertips to be able to create extraordinary things and spectacular results within our work – IF we take the proper action to discipline ourselves to focus on the things that can lead to higher levels of productivity, effectiveness, and leverage!

=> So, here’s a quick action step to help you apply these strategies right now:

Get out a piece of paper, and on the left hand side of the page write down every single activity you did last week (as it relates to your work in this industry). I mean everything – from writing and publishing a blog post, to checking your email or surfing around online.
Then, once you have your full list of activities – go back through and to the right of each activity attach a specific time (minutes) that you actually spent on each activity. You may have to guess for some things, but try to be as accurate as possible. Leave some space for a final column on the far right side of your page.
Now, after you have attached the time (minutes) to those activities – go down the list (to the right of the time given) and write down how much money was (or is in the process of being) made as a result of that specific activity. This is the tricky part because there may be some things that are difficult to put a dollar amount earned on, but just try your best to guesstimate for each action.

This will help you to immediately spot the activities that are consuming most of your time, AND will also allow you to figure out exactly which activities you are doing that actually create most of your income! Don’t make the mistake I made a while back in just “working” on stuff, and not being accountable for my time spent. This is your livelihood (and possibly your family’s livelihood), so I encourage you to pay close attention to what that final paper tells you about your work. It can truly help catapult you to another level of leverage and effectiveness in your results and your income!

So easy, in fact, that most people go through their entire lives simply allowing their minds to meander without purpose, thinking all sorts of unedited and unsupervised thoughts. This unsupervised thinking mind can get us into all sorts of problems, but with a little guidance and education, can turn our lives from suffering to joy instantaneously. The first step to gaining a positive mental attitude is awareness. Simply become aware of your thoughts instead of allowing your mind to wander aimlessly. Listen to the voice in your head and take note of the types of thoughts that you have. Pretend that your thoughts are your best friend and listen to what your friend is saying to you all day, every day. Does your best friend support you totally and absolutely? Does she have compassion for you when you make mistakes? Does she have patience? Does she know how to have fun or is she only a taskmaster? Does your best friend condemn you endlessly? To become successful and happy you need to think as if you are the most patient, compassionate, and supportive friend that you have. Your thoughts need to be based on non-judgmental self-love. If you find that you are not having thoughts that are compassionate, patient, and supportive towards yourself, then the next step is to clean house. Getting rid of habitual negative thinking is easier than you think. After all, you have complete and total control over the process. One of the easiest ways to start eradicating negative thinking is to first become aware of those thoughts that are negative, and then to stop your thoughts mid-stream and change them into positive thoughts. For example: “I’ll never get that raise. This company hates me.” This thought is actually two negative thoughts; one about your ability to get a raise, and one about your company and how it may or may not feel about you. If you believe that your thoughts create your reality then you can quickly see how your future is laid out before you - it is unlikely that you will ever get a raise because you have already decided that your company hates you. Whether or not you believe these thoughts, you must start to change them to change your life. So, next time you start to think, “I’ll never get that raise.” Replace it with something like, “I am an excellent employee and I know that I am going to be paid fairly for my efforts.” As for your thoughts about your company, change them to, “My company appreciates me.” At first, it may feel like a lie to you because your mind has convinced you that it knows the truth. But keep this thought in mind: The truth is what you make it. If you really want to be poor and constantly looking for a new and better job, then keep thinking negatively. If you want more money, to be appreciated, and compensated fairly, then you first have to start with yourself, with your thinking. Another great way to start eliminating a habit of negative thinking is to use affirmations. Affirmations are simply positive statements said in the present tense. An example of a positive, present tense affirmation is, “I am a great employee.” One of the most effective techniques that I have personally employed to reverse a life-long habit of negative thinking is to tie affirmations to flooding. Flooding is a training technique, often used on animals, and entails continually subjecting yourself to a new way of thinking. I committed to using flooding with affirmations for 28 days, and within only a few days, had very good results. Each day upon awakening, I would start with silent affirmations. With each breath out, I would say an affirmation that I made up on the spot. “I am beautiful.” “I am creative.” “I am capable of anything.” “I have good friends.” “I am compassionate.” “I am trustworthy.” I just made them up. As the day went on, whenever I would find my mind wandering to negative thinking, or just thinking about something that wasn’t important or directly related to my life, I would start in again with the affirmations. Another aspect of flooding that I used involved reading inspirational books or articles every day. Whatever you may be interested in, find the best, most positive authors on the subject, and read at least 10 pages each day. For instance, if you are interested in making more money, start reading some of Napoleon Hill’s books, such as Think and Grow Rich. If you want to learn how to harness the power of The Secret, try The Power of Intention by Wayne Dyer. If you want to improve your diet or exercise, search for inspiring stories, books, or role models that you can learn from. Changing your habitual thinking will require a concerted effort on your part, but it won’t take nearly as long as you think if you make a promise to change and employ some of my ideas. Dare to Stay Engaged: Individually and with Your Team - Like Never Before

You set the tone in your company and it does not matter what your leadership role is – everyone has the ability and opportunity to lead. Your leadership and mindset is contributing to setting the tone whether you are senior leadership or entry level.

I was on a flight from NYC to Chicago a couple of weeks ago and sat next to a gentleman who'd worked for a large financial firm on Wall Street. He was now without a job and exploring options. As I spoke with this guy, what struck me was his attitude. He was looking at this "horrible" situation, one that was stressful and would have a large impact on his family (including a possible relocation), as an opportunity to re-assess and "start over." He said, "I've been so caught up in all of this for so many years, in many ways I've lost sight of what's most important and what I really want to be doing. While I'm not loving this; I'm scared and uncomfortable, I'm secretly excited about what's to come. I feel I have a fresh start." Hmmmm. Different mindset, wouldn't you say? And one that was already serving him greatly. (Do you ever notice the kind of intimate conversations you can have with perfect strangers at 33,000 feet?)

Another client of mine, a female business leader, shared that this is one of the most stressful times she's ever experienced in her firm, but in many ways one of the most rewarding. How is this possible? She's working her mindset - she's checking her thoughts - she's looking for the gifts and seeing how she and her team can be more efficient, more competitive and simply better. The result? A more focused and bonded team, creative and cutting edge offerings and solutions for clients, and an even higher level of joyful appreciation for closing deals and connecting with clients. Again, mindset. And not just her's, it's her team's and her organization's - they're picking up the peices from layoffs and budget cuts, identifying their edges, and finding the gifts. They're "leaning in."

See the themes? This is good news. What's even cooler is that all of this mindset stuff - is contagious. (If you don't want to catch it, stop reading now.)

Here's the thing, there's no doubt that sometimes the "wheels come off the wagon," things get tough and we need to "reset" in areas of our business and personal lives. Of course. It's life, we're human. AND with these events, there is also tremendous opportunity to come out better than ever, and to actually find joy in the process. It's a choice, and it comes down to mindset.

It doesn't mean tough stuff isn't happening or that we go into "pollyanna mode" to get through it. It means we consciously watch our thoughts, check our mindset and find productive solutions and opportunities from what happens. It means we take extra good care of ourselves. Not always easy, but so important (not only for yourself, but for your mission, and those you lead.)

As a leader in your company, you set the tone. It does not matter what your official "role" in leadership is - every single person in the organization has the ability and opportunity to lead. So whether you are senior leadership or entry level and you're reading this, know that your leadership and mindset is contributing to setting the tone. (Think about the implications of that. This isn't about waiting for others to lead or set the tone - it's about taking full ownership, right now, to set the tone by modeling leadership and "being the change you want to see.") Your mindset, outlook and attitude are your greatest assets and they're contagious. There's an opportunity here. It's an opportunity to be better, more streamlined, refined, and ambitious than ever. It's an opportunity to reconnect with that sense of mission, vision, and people. It's the opportunity to create a better place - internally, externally, at work and at home. Yes, it will take perseverance, devotion and some work - of course. But here's the thing --- it starts HERE NOW in your head - in your heart - in your "being" - and with your mindset. You start the change internally, and then it manifests externally.

How to do this?

Here are some ways to address staying engaged, "on your edge," and mindset. Pick the one(s) that resonate for you and work them. I challenge you to do this now, as you read. Don't read and then just think about it (thinking you'll revisit), I dare you to actually take the time to put something down on paper (post its are fine) and commit to one thing that will support you in this area.

1. Extreme self care. For you to be your most effective self, to be on your cutting edge, and to think clearly - what do you need? What kind of self-care do you want to engage in to help set yourself up to be the best instrument of change possible? How can you increase your energy, stamina and vitality? What boundaries may you want to initiate? What practices may you want to engage? This is something you can decide for yourself, I can make suggestions, but what's important here is that it resonates for you, and you feel good doing it. Commit to some kind of self-care starting TODAY. Right now, what are you going to do to treat yourself extra well? Mind, body and soul? This can be a commitment to clean eating, exercise, making a list of 25 things you LOVE to do (and then doing at least 2 of them a day - the "25 things to do" exercise is from Jack Canfield, by the way), body work, dance, skin care, white space, a weekend away, etc. Whatever works for you, make self-care a priority, pull it to the front; you, your organization and the people around you will benefit. 2. Stay on your edge. LEARN. This is not the time to hide or wait. Lean in and learn all you can. Make yourself better, stronger, more aware. Check your mindset and beliefs (see next week's article.) You don't have to spend a ton of money to do it - buy a book, take an afternoon to ask yourself the BIG questions, take a class, work with a coach, purchase a self study program. Do it individually, do it as a team. But do it. (The new DTE Power Pack Program is a resource we can help you with here.)

3. Be grateful. What do you have in your life right now that you are grateful for? What's happening in your business, with your team, with your spouse, your kids? Did you take a shower today? Get a workout in? Eat a good meal? Do you have a business you care about deeply? Clients? Capture 5 things a day you are grateful for - FEEL the gratitude, express it, write it down. To me, gratitude is the QUICKEST mindset shifter I've ever experienced (that or a huge loss or tragedy and I prefer gratitude any day!)

4. Acknowledge. A close cousin to gratitude. What's your team going through right now? How are they showing up? Who are they "being" in the face of challenge and unknown outcomes? How can you be more helpful to them?

5. Make a plan. Nothing breeds greater clarity and a sigh of relief like actually making a plan. Whatever your current situation is - what's your plan? Doesn't have to be perfect - just jot down some next steps, get into action, and be awake in the process so you know when you need to make a left turn or switch gears.

6. Mission & Vision. Why are you in business? Why does your company exist? What's the impact you want to have? What's the overall vision here? Do you remember? Do you have one? Are you clear on where you're going? Individually, as a team? What are your shared values that will get you there? You can have more than one vision, for different areas of your life, but if you don't have at least one - it's going to be hard to get there. Having a mission, vision and shared values can pull you through times of adversity (and make it more fun in the process which in my opinion is a really good thing.)

7. Work with your team. Talk about what's going on. Be open about it. Invite them into the conversation. Tell the truth (be aware of and response-able for your impact here.) Brainstorm solutions. Give them ownership for creating solutions that will help you move through challenges together.

8. Develop yourself and your people - NOW. Now is the time to take advantage of some of the space you may have in your schedules and bandwidth to actually develop the people in your company. It may seem counterintuitive, but it can provide you with a stronger foundation so that when things pick up or more challenges arise, you're all better armed for it. There are a couple of ways I look at this: 1) Develop them while there's time, energy and bandwidth, 2) Give them something to focus on together that will move them forward in the long run and help them be better leaders, salespeople, designers, human beings, communicators, etc. Whatever the case, give them tools, resources and space to do so. Not only will it help them and make them feel seen and appreciated, it will strengthen your own bottom line, 3) Now is a great time to inspire people to lead, take initiative and grow themselves. It inspires people to be better at working with each other. Gives them common language and purpose, and invites them to step into a bigger place. When morale could take a huge dive, giving people the tools and resources to better themselves will boost morale and result in a higher level of personal ownership for your company's outcomes. BTW, you don't have to do this alone, and it doesn't have to break the bank.

9. Take advantage of down time. What are the things that you've been wanting to do, but haven't had the time? Now's the time to do them. Notice if you resist this one. Notice it. What are you really resisting?

10. Need a vacation? Some space, some time to clear your head and get strategic? Go.

So there are 10 things you could start doing today that will help you move through this recession and the challenges of your business and life in a more peaceful, productive and engaging way. You'll notice there is action in here to ground it and make it real - but really - all of these stem from mindset and finding opportunity for moving forward.

To make this concrete now:

1. Pick one, two or three. What are you committing to doing? For yourself, your business, your team?

2. Identify what needs to happen next and by when. ("Next 3 steps" is always good!)

3. What support will you need? (Accountability? A buddy? A coach?) Who will you need to engage? How do you want to be held accountable?

4. What impact do you INTEND making this commitment will have? (THIS IS SO IMPORTANT.)

5. How will you know you're getting your intended impact?

So go for it. Jot it down now. Take 10 minutes. You'll be so glad you did.

If you are somewhat new to the model of “Affiliate Marketing“, then you’ll want to learn exactly WHAT it is and what it means for you in the network marketing industry. So, here is a comparison of affiliate marketing to network marketing:

Affiliate marketing is similar to network marketing (mlm) in the fact that you market products or services (online or off), and when someone buys that specific product/service – you get a percentage of the profits paid as a commission for you. You can also earn off of other people’s efforts in affiliate programs that offer a multi-tiered structure (such as The Renegade System’s 2 tiered set up).

One HUGE advantage with becoming an affiliate, is that many times the commission percentages for products or services that are sold through an affiliate structure are MUCH HIGHER than those network marketing companies may pay out. One reason is because the overhead and other expenses the affiliate program owner has, may be less than a big networking company’s expenses. Secondly, because there are usually not as many levels paid out; so commissions are not spread out down tons of levels.

Another attraction factor many people love, is that you don’t have to “recruit” people or build a “downline” – but you still get to earn RESIDUAL INCOME, and you can market multiple products/services to provide more value to your prospects (instead of just one) for multiple streams of income!

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard distributors from network marketing companies get upset because there is a clause in their company’s “policies and procedures” manual that PROHIBITS that rep from marketing or selling a competing “direct sales” product. Some would say that network marketing companies know how to make multiple streams of income, but do they ever teach distributors how? Whether that is really the case or not, marketing products/services from “The Renegade System” as an affiliate keeps you away from the “direct sales competition clauses”.

Now, there are different types of affiliate programs ranging from things that pay one time commissions each time your marketing or advertising makes a sale, to ones that pay you residual commissions every month as people continue subscribing to that specific service or continue buying that consumable product you are marketing. You Are A Winner! You Were Born To Win And You Are Going To Win.

"You were born to win, but to be a winner, you must plan to win, prepare to win, and expect to win." -Zig Ziglar
I agree with Zig Ziglar that you were born to win. You are born with unlimited resources. Regardless of the advantages or disadvantages you had or have. Within you is a wealth of potential to take advantage of in being the best and having the best. Ziglar was the tenth child of twelve. His father and younger sister died when he was only 7 years old, leaving his mother to raise eleven children. Today Ziglar is a popular motivational speaker and self-help author. He has shared the platform with American Presidents Ford, Reagan and Bush, distinguished statesmen, as well as famous celebrities. From humble beginnings, Ziglar has a client list which includes Fortune 500 companies; he has written over 25 books, which have been translated into over 38 languages. He certainly is an example of building his potential to be one of the greatest.
Ziglar didn't leave himself behind in the struggles of his life. He took himself to the top. When you give in to self-pity and victimization you leave behind your potential. It is abandoning yourself from being all that you can be. Life holds a special purpose for you. Finding it is part of your journey. Once you get on purpose and get on track, you are not being left behind. Your success builds from your special purpose and no one else's.
Clues to Getting on Your Right Track:

If you are confused and uncertain about what you want, don't take it personally since that is true for most people. You are definitely not alone. One way to get clarity about what you want is to make a list of what you don't want.
Take your list of don't wants and turn them around. This way you will find out what you do want. For example you might write: "I don't want to live from paycheck to paycheck." The flip side is: "I want to earn more money." Or "I don't want to live in the city anymore." Flip side: "I want to live where I can see trees and I can hear the birds sing - closer to nature."
Within you lie unlimited resources. One of which is your imagination. Use your imagination to get clarity about what you want. Albert Einstein said, "Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine and at last you create what you will." Reread this quote and really get its wisdom.
Be specific in using your imagination. If it is more money you want, include how much. Example: I want to earn $5,000 more a month within the next three months. With that money I plan to ______________________ (fill in blank). Or I want to take off 10 pounds this month. I can see myself being one size smaller and looking good! Reread Einstein quote above.
Find the resources to get you on your right track to being on purpose personally and professionally. Don't be a lone ranger. It will leave you behind. However, when people work together toward an outcome, they can accomplish extraordinary results with a larger impact than doing it in isolation.

Don't leave your potential inside. You were born to be a winner. You are meant to be successful doing what you love.
