No number will divide a prime number and create a non decimal answer. It turns out too, that when you break down a number into its factors, the factors are always prime, whether the number itself is or not. This is especially useful when doing square roots. For example, when you factor the number 36, you get 2*2*3*3. This also means the root of 36 is root(2*2*3*3). Since the square root of a number times itself is just the number, it is easy to see that for each repeated number under the square root sign, we can pull one out as a whole number. So the square root of 36 is 2*3, or 6.

The same thing can be done for prime numbers, but you won't get any actual factors, and it would be silly to write 1 as a factor; it's kind of a given. Nonetheless, this same thing can be done for much larger numbers too. If we wanted to find root(220,000) we would of course need a calculator and the best place to start would be dividing by 2 because it is obvious that 2 will divide it. Anyway, we find that the factors are 2*2*2*2*2*5*5*5*5*11. So root(220,000) equals 2*2*5*5*root(5*11) or 100*root(55).

Now get ready for the really cool part. You probably already realize that you can do this same thing, at least in theory, for incredibly huge numbers with as many digits as you want. Even a number with a trillion digits could be factored in this way. But what about an incredibly huge number that just happens to be prime? It has no factors, but we it would take a lot of effort that could only be accomplished by a computer to even figure that out. Computers also have their limits, so if we get a big enough number, like one with 100's of millions of digits, then even a computer isn't fast enough to ever come up with an answer.

Governments, phone companies, and other organizations with sensitive information us prime numbers in a way that codes their information in an almost unbreakable way. They take two huge prime numbers and multiply them together, effectively creating a number whose only factors are those two huge primes. Anyone can know this number because only by knowing the factors is the information retrievable. If the correct recipient is the only one who knows one of the factors, the other is easily attainable, and the code can be read.
One of the best candidates we have for president is Buddy Roemer, but the system is so corrupt that they don't allow him in the debates with one pretext or another; besides, the elections could be rigged.

Therefore, I propose organizing a massive walk to Washington to ask for Obama's resignation. We elected him to work for us and instead he is working for the corporate oligarchy; it is our constitutional right to replace him at any time. They did it in Egypt. We can do it here!

We choose a date and depart from New York, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego to meet in Washington DC at another set date (we can use vehicles part of the way if necessary). By the time we get there, enlisting occupiers along the way, we should number on the thousands. And we occupy until we install a new president and replace the Federal Reserve System (a banking cartel that stole our government in 1913 - it is unconstitutional) Please check: The Creature from Jekyll Island: A Second look at the Federal Reserve, by G Edward Griffin.

It is paramount to do this because there is overwhelming e v i d e n c e that 9/11 was an inside job ( AE 9/11 Truth ) which means that our political system is so corrupt that it would be impossible to start our new country without cleaning house and bringing the guilty to justice, and no system can exist long without justice... justice for all!

Besides, without a clean-up, an honest president would be thrown into a nest of vipers and his chances to survive would be slim. If you have any doubt that JFK was assassinated by the 1%, I suggest reading: JFK and the Unspeakable: Why he Died and why it matters. By James Douglass.

Native Americans should be invited to participate in this march as they have been immorally ignored and marginalized for too long. It is time for them to claim their right place in our society. We can learn much from their culture.

And we must keep in mind that the reason the 1% is in power is the apathy and lack of caring of the 99%. When we loose our virtue we are easy prey for vipers. It is a must to realize that everything is interconnected and we are all part of a Whole, and when we help others we help ourselves. What would the world be like if when we get up in the morning our first thought would be to help others... do unto others what is best for them?

That said, for the occupy movement failure is not an option, for if the movement fails the future is bleak indeed; what the corporate oligarchy is doing is not only serious, it is e v i l.

Let's get it done!
Hudson's attempt was fruitless, but by it, learned that the mouth of Hudson River offered attractive possibilities for settlement, due to the fertility of the land and the possibilities of a profitable fur trade with the Iroquois Indians.

The Dutch East India Company quickly lost interest in this region, after the attempt to find a passage to the Far East had failed. However, other Dutch businessmen quickly sent voyages to explore, what is now New York, to seek out these new business opportunities, which ultimately led to permanent settlement. An important figure was Adrian Block, who sailed to Manhattan in the year 1613 and discovered; the Housatonic and Connecticut Rivers, Rhode Island, and Block Island. In 1614, other Dutch ship owners secured trading posts in the area, leading to the permanent settlement of Albany.

All of the early trading posts were established through the direct efforts of business firms, and not through the initiative of governments.

The Dtuch West India Company

However, in 1621, the Dutch Government chartered the Dutch West India Company to trade and colonize that area. The government granted the company the authority to appoint a governor, and to draw up rules of government, of which the colonists were divided into two classes, free colonists, who received transportation and maintenance for the first two years, who could own homesteads, and the bound farmers, who were required to work on the company farms or the farms of company officials. The first settlements were near, what is today, the New York City area. The first official settlement on Manhattan Island was secured by Peter Minuit. He arrived in 1626 and proceeded to purchase Manhattan from the native Indian chiefs for trinkets worth twenty-four 1933, US dollars.

Whereas the Dutch secured the first colony along the middle Atlantic coast, they failed to establish it as such, a Dutch colony, mainly for three conspicuous reasons; their land policy, their inept leadership, and their reluctance to grant the colonists the kind of self-government, which the English settlers were to enjoy elsewhere along the North Atlantic coast.

Although the Dutch were shrewd businessmen, they failed to capitalize on the greatest of all impulses toward the colonization of America, the desire of the underprivileged people of Europe to secure a piece of land they could call their own. The Dutch firms granted land to settlers under perpetual leases. Not enough settlers bought into their concept, when other colonies were giving plots of land to homestead, the concept on which New England was founded, thus the Dutch have no permanent settlement they can call their own.

The Dutch West India Company, which was overseeing the attempted Dutch colonization, had leadership that put self-interest ahead of public good. According to Washington Irving, they were a quarrelsome, arrogant lot, whom were too friendly with the wrong people, Peter Minuit included. One failed leadership replacement after another of the Dutch West India Company, plus having no good relationships with the Indians of the area, led to their failure to colonize. Finally, Peter Stuyvesant, the tenacious and colorful one-legged Dutch hero, was the right leader, but too late to turn the attempt of Dutch colonization around.

A third basic reason for the breakdown of the Dutch to colonize was the failure of the authorities of the Dutch West India Company to recognize the positive values of granting self-government, and their inveterate hostility to anything that smacked of democracy. The failure to confer broad legislative powers upon the representatives of the people certainly contributed to the gradual crumbling of the colony's morale.

English Involvement In Dutch Affairs

Meanwhile the English had come to regard that the Dutch were interfering with their expansion and enforcement of trade laws, had outbreaks with the Dutch over the control of New York, starting in 1664. Except for a brief period, the English maintained control of New York, until the evacuation of the British troops in 1783.

But Father Knickerbocker's cultural grip upon the colony persisted long after Dutch political rule had ended. As much as they could, the Dutchmen in the Hudson Valley had duplicated the life of Holland, building their towns on the models of Amsterdam, establishing Dutch law, the Dutch Reform Church, and the Dutch language, which continued to be spoken for generations after the area became under English rule.

Although the fire of 1776 in lower Manhattan destroyed the Dutch legacy, it could not destroy the Dutch spirit. Even though the Dutch did not make their own, the part of New England that today we call, New York, the Dutch spirit lives on. It is the American Spirit, and it has made this nation great. Hats off to the Dutch!
Something like this was said in the early 14th century about the quality called "luster." The way ceramics have been used throughout the Europe and the Islamic world for over a thousand years pertains to this quality in particular. The luster technique of decorating is actually complicated and expensive. It requires three skilled craftsmen and enough fuel for three separate firings. In fact, luster potters are forced to regulate the firing conditions very cautiously if they are to be successful. One cannot understand this technique simply by looking at the final product either. Luster decorating demands an arcane knowledge of the chemical process along with the quantities of different materials needed. It is easy to understand why exact techniques were most likely passed along from potter to potter over time. For the Asian enthusiast, the logical question is: How did this precise technology come about through the help of China?

The skill that eventually developed into luster pottery may have been first invented to decorate glass in Syria or Egypt around 700 CE. It is true that some of the best inventions were discovered by people through an "accident." So it was in Iraq in the 9th century that the production of luster decorated ceramics first began to be noticed. It was also at this time, during the boom years of the Abbasid Empire, that new long haul trade routes opened up. These routes connected the Islamic world and Tang dynasty China (618-907 CE). As a result, glazed Chinese ceramic wares started to come into the Iraqi port of Basra.

The bright white, high fired porcelain wares were not like the kind of ceramics ever encountered in the Middle East. Local Iraqi potters started to imitate these Chinese wares almost at once. However, these Middle Eastern potters did not have access to the kaolin used by Chinese potters to make porcelain. Therefore, the Middle Eastern potters had to imitate the appearance of the wares rather than the technology used by the Chinese. This was accomplished by adding particles of tin oxide to their local lead glazes. This was also the origin of "tin glazing." The tin would remain in suspension during the firing and made the glaze appear to be opaque white. This white tin glaze became the basic blank canvas upon which the Iraqi potters began to apply their decoration.

For any student of Asian history, such an example as this one demonstrates the broad influence of China throughout the drama of trade and economics. Even though the creation of the Middle Eastern luster product was something of an accident, the role played by the Chinese is present. Such an example shows how established the art work of China really is. It is part of what makes the "East" a mysterious and enchanting place for people throughout the world. The influence of China continues to be felt in the modern world even today!
However, Carmine "The Cigar" Galante, would not die of natural causes as did Vito Genovese (albeit in prison). Instead, Galante was murdered in one of the most memorable mob hits of all time. After his body was filled with lead, he lay sprawled on his back in the tiny backyard patio of a Queens restaurant, his trademark cigar clenched tightly between his teeth.

Camillo Galante was born on February 21st, 1910, at 27 Stanton Street on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Because both his parents, Vincenzo, a fisherman, and his wife (maiden name Vingenza Russo) had been born in the seaside village of Castellammarese del Golfo in Sicily, Galante was a pure first generation Sicilian/America. Galante had two brothers and two sisters, and when he was in grade school, Galante ditched his given name Camillo, and insisted he be called Carmine instead. Over the years it was shortened to "Lilo," which was the name most of his associates called Galante.

Galante first got into trouble for petty theft from a store counter when he was fourteen years old. But since he was a juvenile at the time, an account of this arrest is not in his official police record.

At various times, Galante attended Public High Schools 79 and 120, but he dropped out of school for good at the age of fifteen. Galante was in and out of reform school several times, and was considered an "incorrigible delinquent."

From 1923 to 1926, Galante was ostensibly employed at the Lubin Artificial Flower Company at 270 West Broadway. However, this was a ruse to satisfy the law that Galante was gainfully employed, when, in fact, he was engaged in a very lucrative criminal career.

In December 1925, Galante was arrested for assault. However, money changed hands between Galante's people and crooked policemen, and as a result, Galante was released without serving any prison time. In December 1926, Galante was arrested again, but this time he was found guilty of second degree assault and robbery, and sentenced to two-to-five years in prison. Galante was released from prison in 1930, and in order to satisfy his parole officer, he got another sham "job" at the O'Brien Fish Company at 105 South Street, near the Fulton Fish Market.

However, it was not Galante's nature to stay on the right side of the law. On March 15th, 1930, five men entered the Martin Weinstein's shoe factory on the corner of York and Washington Streets in Brooklyn Heights. On the 6th floor of the building, Mr. Weinstein was in the process of getting his weekly payroll together, under the protection of police officer Walter De Castillia of the 84th Precinct. The five men took the elevator to the 6th floor. While one man stood guard at the elevator, the other four men burst into Mr. Weinstein's office. They ignored the $7,500 sitting on the table, and opened fire on Officer De Castillia, a married father of a young girl, with nine years on the force. Officer De Castillia was hit six times in the chest and he died instantly.

The four men walked calmly back to the elevator and joined their cohort, who was guarding the elevator operator Louis Sella. Stella took the five men down to the ground floor. He later told the police that the men had exited the building, calmly walked to a parked car, got into the car, and fled the scene. When the police arrived minutes later from the station house just 2 blocks away, the killers were nowhere to be seen. Sella described the five men as "early to mid-twenties, with dark skin and dark hair." Sella said the men were all "very well-dressed."

The police theory was, that since no money had been taken, that this was a planned hit on Officer De Castillia. On August 30, 1930, Galante, along with Michael Consolo and Angelo Presinzano, were arrested and indicted for the murder of Officer De Castillia. However, all four men were soon released due to lack of evidence.

On December 25th, 1930, four suspicious men were sitting in a green sedan on Briggs Avenue in Brooklyn. Police detective Joseph Meenahan just happened to be in the area. He spotted the men in the sedan, drew his gun, and approached the sedan cautiously. One of the men shouted at Meenahan, "Stop right there copper, or we'll burn you."

Before Meenahan could react, the firing commenced from the green sedan. Meenahan was shot in the leg, and a six-year-old girl walking nearby with her mother was seriously wounded. The driver of the sedan had trouble starting the car, so the four men leaped from the sedan and tried to escape on foot. Three of the men manged to flee the area by jumping on a passing truck, but the fourth man slipped as he tried to get onto the truck and was apprehended by the wounded Meenahan. That man was Carmine Galante.

When Meenahan brought Galante to the station house, a group of detectives, angry that one of their own had been wounded, started to give Galante the "police station tuneup." Despite getting his lumps, Galante refused to give up the identities of the men who had escaped. He was subsequently tried and convicted as one of the four men who had robbed the Lieberman Brewery in Brooklyn. On January 8th, 1931, Galante was remanded to Sing Sing Prison in Ossining, New York. He was later transferred to the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, New York, where he remained until his release on May 1st, 1939.

While Galante was in prison he was given an IQ test that revealed he had a lame IQ of only 90, which, even though Galante was well into his twenties, equated to a mental age of 14-years-old. It was also noted that Galante was diagnosed as having a "neuropathic psychopathic personality." A physical evaluation showed that he had a head injury incurred in a car accident when Galante was 10-years-old, a fractured ankle when he was eleven, and that Galante was showing the early signs of gonorrhea, probably incurred at one of the many brothels controlled by the mob.

In 1939, after he was released from prison, Galante was again given sham employment at his old job at the Lubin Artificial Flower Company. In February of 1941, Galante obtained membership in Local 856 of the Longshoreman's Union, where he ostensibly worked as a " stevedore." However, it is likely Galante very rarely showed up for work; one of the perks of being a member of the Mafia.

There is no record of the exact date, but Galante was induced as a made member of the Bonanno Crime Family in the early 1940's. Despite the fact his boss was Joe Bonanno, at the time the youngest Mafia boss in America, Galante performed many hits for Vito Genovese, all throughout the 1930's and 1940's.

While Genovese was in self-imposed exile in Italy (he was wanted on a murder charge and flew the coop before he could be arrested), Genovese became fast pals with Italian fascist dictator Benito Mussolini. Mussolini had a stone in his shoe in America called Carlo Tresa. Tresa was causing Mussolini much agita by incessantly writing anti-fascist sentiments in his radical Italian-language newspaper, Il Martello, which was sold in Italian communities in America.

Genovese sent word back to America to Frank Garofalo, underboss to Joseph Bonanno, that Tresa had to go. Garofalo gave Tresa contract to Galante, who shadowed Tresa for a few days to determine the best time and place to whack him.

On January 11th, 1943, Tresa was walking along Fifth Avenue near 13th Street, when a black Ford sedan pulled up along side him. The Ford stopped and Galante jumped out, hot gun in hand. Galante blasted Tresa several times in the back and in the head, killing the newspaper editor instantly. Amazingly, Galante was seen by his parole officer fleeing the scene, but due to the wartime rationing of gasoline, the parole officer was unable to follow the black Ford containing Galante and the smoking gun. No arrest were ever made for the Tresa slaying.

In 1953, Bonanno sent Galante to Montreal, Canada to take control of the Bonanno Family interests north of the boarder. Besides the very lucrative Canadian gambling rackets, the Bonannos were heavy into the importation of heroin, from France into Canada, and then into America - the infamous French Connection. Galante supervised the Canadian drug operation for three years. But in 1956, the Canadian police caught wind of Galante's involvement. Not having enough evidence to arrest Galante, they instead deported Galante back to America, classifying Galante as "an undesirable alien."

In 1957, Genovese called for a big summit of all the top Mafioso in America, to take place at the upstate New York Apalachin residence of Joseph Barbara, a captain in the Buffalo crime family of Stefano Magaddino. In preparation for this meeting, on October 19th, 1956, several New York crime bigwigs were summoned to Barbara's home to go over the guidelines of the proposed meeting; the prime purpose of which was to anoint Genovese as the Capo di Tutti Capi," or "Boss of all Bosses."

After the meeting ended, driving on his way back to New York City, Galante was nabbed for speeding near Birmingham, New York. Because his driver's license had been suspended, Galante gave the police a phone one. He was immediately arrested and sentenced to 30 days in prison. However, the tentacles of the Mafia also reached right into the police department in upstate New York. After a few mobbed-up New York lawyers made the right phone calls to upstate New York, Galante was released within 48 hours. Yet, a state policeman named Sergeant Edgar Roswell took note of the fact that Galante had admitted to the police he had stayed the night before at the Arlington Hotel, as host of a local businessman named Joseph Barbara. This prompted Roswell to pay especial attention to the Barbara residence in Apalachin, New York.

Less than a month later, on November 17th, 1957, at the insistence of Don Vito Genovese, Mafia members from all over America made their way to the Barbara residence. These men included Sam Giancana from Chicago, Santo Trafficante from Florida, John Scalish from Cleveland, and Joe Profaci and Tommy Lucchese from New York City. Galante's boss Joe Bonanno decided not to attend, and he sent Galante instead.

Sergeant Roswell took note of the fact that on the day before the nearby Arlington Hotel had been booked to the rafters with suspicious-looking out-of-towners. Roswell asked the right questions, and he was able to confirm that the man who made the reservations for these men was Joseph Barbara himself. Roswell drove to the Barbara resident and he spotted dozens of luxury cars parked outside, some with out-of-town plates.

Roswell called for back-up, and in minutes, dozens of state troupers arrived with guns drawn. The troupers raided the Barbara residence and chaos ensued. Men wearing expensive suits, hats, and shoes bolted from the house. Some were immediately arrested; some made it to their cars and drove off the property before roadblocks could be put in place by the police. Others jumped out of the windows and hightailed in through the thorny woods. One of these men was Carmine Galante, who hid in a cornfield until the police had left the Barbara residence. Then made his way back to Barbara's home, and made arrangements for his safe passage back to New York City.

The next day, when the news of the raid on Barbara's house hit American newspapers, blowing the lid off the misguided idea that the Mafia was a myth, Galante went into the wind, or in mob terms, he "pulled a lamski." On January 8th, 1958, the New York Herald Tribune wrote that Galante had run to Italy to hook up with old pal Salvatore "Lucky" Luciano, who was in exile in Italy, after serving nine years in American prison on a trumped-up prostitution charge. Another report said that it was not Luciano Galante was with, but rather Joe "Adonis" Doto, another mob boss in exile in Italy. On January 9th, the New York Journal American said Galante was not in Italy at all, but in Havana, Cuba, with Meyer Lansky, a longtime member of the National Crime Commission, who had numerous casino interests in Cuba.

In April 1958, it was somehow leaked that Galante was now back in the United States and living somewhere in the New York area. The local law went to work, and in July, Galante was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Narcotics while he was driving near near Holmdale, New Jersey. He was charged with taking part in a major heroin deal, one of many Galante had been involved with. Also arrested in the same case were Vito Genovese, John Ormento, Joe Di Palermo, and Vincent Gigante. Galante, again making use of his cadre of New York attorneys, was released on $100,000 bail. Galante's lawyers were able to delay any further legal proceedings for almost two years. It wasn't until May 17th, 1960, that Galante was formally indicted, and again released on bail.

On January 20th, 1961, Galante's trial finally began, and the judge, Thomas F. Murphy, revoked Galante's bail, ordering Galante to be put right into the slammer. However, Galante's luck held up when, on May 15th, a mistrial was declared. It seemed the foreman of the jury, a poor chap named Harry Appel, a 68-year-old dress manufacturer, had the misfortune of falling down a flight of stairs in a building on 15th Street in Manhattan. After the medics arrived and Appel was taken to a nearby hospital, it was determined that Appel had suffered a broken back. No one had seen Appel fall, nor did the hurt and frightened Appel say that anyone had pushed him. However, although they had no definite proof, law enforcement believed that Appel had been pushed by a cohort of Galante's, with a warning not to say anything to anybody, and they would allow Appel and members of his family to live.

Galante, now feeling alive and chipper, was released from prison, secured by a bond of $135,000.

Alas, but all good things must come to an end.

In April 1962, Galante's second trial commenced.

At the trial, there was a bit of mayhem in the courtroom, when one of Galante's co-defendants, a nasty creature named Tony Mirra (who was said to have killed 30-40 people) became so unhinged, that he picked up a chair and flung it at the prosecutor. Luckily for the prosecutor, the chair missed him and landed in the jury box, forcing the frightened jurors to scatter in all directions. Order was restored to the court, and the trial proceeded, which was bad news for both Galante, and for Mirra. Both men were found guilty, and on July 10th, 1962, Galante was sentenced to thirty years in prison. Mirra also was sent to prison for a very long time. It is not clear if any additional time was tacked onto Mirra's sentence for the chair-throwing incident.

Galante first was sent to Alcatraz Prison, which was located on an island fortress in San Francisco Bay. He was then moved to the Lewisburg Penitentiary, in Leavenworth, Kansas, before serving the final years of his prison term in the United States Penitentiary in Atlanta, Georgia. Galante was finally released from prison on January 24th, 1974, all full of fire and brimstone, and ready to get back into business. However, Galante was to be on parole until 1981, so he had to be careful not to keep a high profile. Unfortunately, being in the background was not in Galante's makeup.

While he was in prison, Galante made it known that when he got out of prison he was going to take control of the New York Mafia by the throat. The accepted head of the five New York City Mafia families at the time was Carlo Gambino, the head of the Gambino crime family. Gambino was shrewd, and generally quiet and reserved; well-respected for his business acumen, and his ability to keep peace amongst his own family, as well as the other Mafia families. However, Galante had to use for Gambino, or his method of doing business.

By the time of Galante's release, his boss Joe Bonnano had been forced to "retire," and was living in Tuscon, Arizona. The new Bonanno boss was Rusty Rastelli. But since Rastelli was in the slammer at the time, Galante took over as the "street boss" of the Bonannos. Still, Rastelli was considered the boss of the Bonannos, and was none too happy about how Galante was strutting his stuff on the streets of New York City.

Galante took the unusual step, and not appreciate by other Bonanno crime family members, of surrounding himself with Sicilian born Mafioso like Caesar Bonventre, Salvatore Catalano, and Baldo Amato. Theses men were derisively called "zips" by the American Mafia, due to the quick way they zipped through the Italian language. These zips were heavily involved in the drug trade, and in direct opposition to those in the Genovese Crime Family, which was run by Funzi Tieri, every bit as cunning and vicious as Galante.

Galante had a minor setback, when in 1978, he was arrested by the Feds for "associating with known criminals," which was a violation of his parole. While Galante stewed in prison, he began ordering his men to kill mobsters in the Genovese and Gambino crime families, who were cutting in on Galante's worldwide drug operation. With Carlo Gambino now dead (from natural causes), Galante figured he had the muscle to push the other crime family bosses into the background. From prison he sent out the message to the other bosses, "Who among you is going to stand up against me?"

On March 1st, 1979, Galante's was released from prison and walking on air because he truly believed the other crime bosses were afraid of him. Like Vito Genovese before him, Galante envisioned himself as "Boss of All Bosses," and it was only a matter of time before the other bosses cowered before Galante and handed him the title.

However, Galante underestimated the might and will of the other Mafioso bosses in New York City. While Galante swaggered around the streets of New York City, the other bosses held a meeting in Boca Raton, Florida, deciding Galante's fate. At this meeting were Funzi Tieri, Jerry Catena, Paul Castellano, and Florida boss Santo Trafficante. These powerful men voted unanimously, if mob peace was to exist in the streets of New York City, Galante had to go. Rastelli, who was still in jail, was consulted, and even the aged Joe Bonanno, living in Arizona, was asked if he had any reservations at his former close associate being hit. Both Rastelli and Bonanno signed off on Galante's murder contract, and Galante's days were numbered.

On July 12th, 1979, it was a hot and sticky summer day, as the 69-year-old Carmine Galante's Lincoln pulled up at 205 Knickerbocker Avenue, in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn. For more than 50 years, Knickerbocker Avenue had been the turf of the Bonnano crime family, and over the years numerous mob sit-downs had taken place in one of several storefronts on the block.

Carmine Galante stepped out of the Lincoln, then he waved goodbye to the driver: his nephew James Galante. Carmine Galante was wearing a white short-sleeved knit shirt, and, as was his custom, he was sucking on a huge Churchill cigar. Galante strutted inside the tiny restaurant, and was greet by Joe Turano, the owner of Joe and Mary's Restaurant. Galante had made this visit to meet with Turano, and with Leonard "Nardo" Coppola, a close associate of Galante's, over some undetermined mob business.

At approximately 1:30 p.m., Cappola strolled into the restaurant, accompanied by zips Baldo Amato and Cesare Bonventre, who were cousins, and from the same village as Galante's parents: Castellammarese del Golfo. By this time Galante and Turano had already finished their meal, so while the three newcomers sat inside and had their lunch, Galante and Turano slipped outside into the backyard patio, and sat under a yellow-and-turquoise checked umbrella. After Cappola, Bonventre, and Amato finished dining, they joined the other two men outside. Galante and Turano were smoking cigars and drinking espresso coffee laced with Anisette (only tourists and non-Italians drink Sambuca).

Galante was sitting with his back to a small garden, while Amato sat to his left and Bonventre to his right. Turano and Cappola sat on the opposite side of the table, their backs to the door leading to the restaurant.

At approximately 2:40 p.m., a four-door, blue Mercury Montego double parked in front of Joe and Mary's Restaurant. The car had been stolen about a month before. The driver, wearing a red-striped ski mask that covered his face, stepped out of the car and stood guard, holding a.3030 M1 carbine rifle menacingly in his hands. Three other men, also wearing ski masks, jumped out of the car and jogged into the restaurant. They sped past the few startled diners who were still eating lunch, and rushed into the patio area.

As they entered the patio, one masked man said to the other, "Get him, Sal!'

The gunman called "Sal" began firing a double-barrel shotgun several times at Galante, propelling Galante, as he was rising from his chair, onto his back. Galante was hit with 30 pellets, one knocking out his left eye. Galante was probably dead before he hit the ground, his cigar still stuck tightly between his teeth.

As Galante was shot, Joe Turano yelled,"What are you doing?"

The same gunman turned to Turano, and with the shotgun pressed against Turano's chest, he blasted Turano into eternity.

Cappola jumped up from the table, and either Amato, or Bonventre (it's not clear which one did the shooting) shot Cappola in the face, then five times in the chest. Cappola landed face down, and the killer with the shotgun, blasted off the back of Coppola's head.

The three masked men then hurried from the restaurant, and into the waiting getaway car. According to witnesses outside the restaurant, the car sped up Knickerbocker Avenue to Flushing Avenue, then disappeared around the corner. Bonventre and Amato, who were both wearing leather jackets despite the stifling heat, soon followed the three gunman out of the restaurant. They calmly walked down the block, got into a blue Lincoln, and drove away, like they had nary a care in the world.

Galante's body was laid out in the Provenzano-Lanza Funeral Home at 43 Second Avenue on the Lower East Side. The crowds that usual accompany a Mafia wake of this kind were notably absent. Galante was buried on July 17th at Saint John's Cemetery in Queens. With the Feds doing the counting, only 59 people attended Galante's funeral mass and burial. The Feds also reported that not one Mafia made man was captured on surveillance cameras, either at the wake, or at the funeral.

One Fed, commenting at the sparse turnout, said, "Galante was so bad, people didn't want to see him, even when he was dead."

Even though the newspapers played up the killing with gruesome front page photos, the general public seemed imperious to the magnitude of the event. A young boy strolled up to a police officer standing guard the wake.

"Was he an actor?" the kid said to the cop.

The cop replied, "No, he was a gangster."
Video news reels can be dropped into a larger story easily because they are short, finished pieces. There are three primary types you can use to enhance your video production: conceptual clips, current news clips and archival clips. These can be added to your own footage to complete a story, used alone, or in combination with each other. Here is an explanation of each type of news footage clip and ideas of ways they can be best used.

1. Current news clips. A complete, current news story can be made by joining a narration to clips that are only a day or even a few hours old. They can be quickly put into a video to add current national and world news to your presentation without breaking your budget.

2. Archival clips. Many current stories are based on past news events. Help your audience gain an understanding of what is going on by including a short clip of former events that led to today's news. Most announcements of the death of Steve Jobs, for example, included news clips of him unveiling well-known products.

Barb Jacobs, a media specialist for a large VA hospital is in charge of producing a daily video clip of the day's events to be played on the building's closed circuit TV's. "I need stock clips to get stuff out quickly. If we are planning a Pearl Harbor Day service, then an archival clip of the attack does a lot, not only to help the audience understand why the ceremony is solemn and sacred but also to add drama to the announcement."

3. Concept clips. Some stories are not based on actual events, but are centered on a concept. Features that focus on poor dietary habits of middle-aged women or an increase in the number of teen smokers do not involve a specific person, location, or event that can be easily filmed. Concept clips allow you to cut back and forth between the narrator and a scene that will illustrate his point. These clips are already edited to protect the privacy of the people being filmed while giving an interesting visual of the story. Types of concept clips include:

- nature scenes

- sports shots

- crowd scenes

- aftermath of disasters

- any other generic clips that illustrate ideas rather than report events.

Stock news clips and archive footage can speed up the production of any story. They add an interesting visual supplement to a narrated story that will keep the audience interested while helping them better understand what is being said. They will also save your company valuable time and money while appealing to a larger viewership.

Adding news footage to your presentation or video creates an atmosphe of confidence and authority to projects of any kind. Lewis Williamson looks for archive footage on the internet because there is such a vast variety of topics and time periods available.
But unfortunately, it seems to be a dead issue in the hearts of our younger generation. I can understand this because as cities grow and technology races forward, our children are extremely busy trying to keep up with our rapidly advancing world. There is no time to introduce them to the details of the Old West and the advantages of learning about their ancestors who helped found our country. Because they don't know many of the details of the past, they don't have time to muse about life then and now, and compare the differences, both the good and the bad.

I wonder how the children of today would cope in the 1880s, and conversely, what the children of the 1880s would think of today's world. In the Old West there were no cars, no school buses, and the children of that era had no conception of cell phones or electronic games. Life was lived at a different level, but it was an important level for it helped shape our lives of today.

I often wonder what Wyatt Earp (1848-1929) would think of today's world, and what the women of the 1880s would think about our microwave ovens, fast food, and plastic wrap. When the women of olden times cooked a meal, they used heavy iron pans that wouldn't melt in an open flame. This was quite unlike today's world when we can take a slice of pizza or a piece of fried chicken, put it on a paper plate in the microwave oven and have it warmed up to eating temperature in a few seconds.

When we have such greatly advanced technology, why should any of us try to keep the memory of the past alive? Here are some valid reasons:

Much can be learned from the past. We have built on the knowledge of others which allows us to live longer and gives us a better life than our forebears. Where would we be if each generation had to rediscover fire or reinvent the wheel before they could get on with their lives? I doubt if we'd have our computers, cars, airplanes, electronic games, or any of the many wonders that we enjoy today.

People as a whole feel and want the same things in life, whether they lived in the 1880s or live now in our present-day world. All generations experience love and hate, justice and injustice, wars, fights of good against evil, and all desire happiness and prosperity. While emotions and wants are basically the same regardless of which era a generation lives in, ways of life and technologies differ greatly. From the past we learn which types of behaviors and strategies brought strife and poor living to us as a whole, and which types of behaviors and strategies moved us toward better living, and a safer and happier future.

Stories about love, hate, murder, justice, and capturing the bad guys in an Old West setting can be and often are more entertaining, thrilling, and exciting than stories taking place in today's modern world because the stories can be embellished through imagination and the author's understanding of life in the Old West.

If I was much younger, chances are I would think like most of the teenagers of today. But, I grew up in an era, when the Old West was the talk-of-the-day with John Wayne movies, cowboys and Indians games, and western toys. I still think there is a place in today's world for remembering the Old West and all that it brought us and taught us.

Author Bob Turpin continues to research, write about, and love the Old West. Because he is a historian, he has become familiar with the people who lived during the 1880s and 1890s and the way life existed then. His stories about the Old West include a broad perspective and comprehensive picture of life and love in our Western Frontier. This is the reason why some businesses don't last long. Strategic planning is very crucial as there are a lot of trials to be encountered during business operation.

When planning to engage in the world of commerce, you must be knowledgeable on the demands of society. For example, primary education is very important for each child. So, consider starting a preschool if you think you possess all requirements. You just need to invest and wisely budget your revenue for future expenses. In addition, you are able to share your acquired knowledge to children. You will become a part of their growth as you are the first one to teach them basic lectures.

Now that the advantages have been enumerated, the next question is - how to start a preschool business?

1. To begin, you need a space that is suitable for learning. It is not necessary to have a big area as long as you provide essential rooms. These are the waiting room, library, canteen, and areas where students can perform their school tasks. You need to be meticulous in decorating your place in accordance to the arranged goal - and this is for learning purposes.

2. Provide waiting room toys in a place where children will obviously wait for their schedule. This will alleviate their boredom while allowing them to learn. Bear in mind that toddlers have a mind that is comparable to sponge. They can easily grasp or absorb new information. Placing different educational toys is essential.

3. Moreover, as an owner, it is now your responsibility to ensure the safety of every child. Security is really difficult to achieve. Why? It is due to a toddler's nature of being an explorer. Children in this stage have a psychosocial status of "autonomy vs. shame and doubt". They tend to be independent by roaming around, being curious and so forth. These are the reasons why they are prone to accidents. To prevent unwanted situations, safety precautions must be implemented. Gates should be closed at all times and they should never be left unattended. If possible, use low plastic chairs and tables so they won't get injuries or wounds. Place classroom rugs to prevent from slipping. It is also a good idea to have colorful decorations.

4. Provide proper furnishings. Walls must be painted with lovely colors. Other learning equipment should be displayed. If possible, provide teddy bears or stuffed toys for them.

Investing in a preschool business is an amazing idea. Aside from the revenue that you may possibly earn, it can really give you a heartwarming feeling. Knowing that you impart knowledge which serves as a foundation for your students is a valuable reward to your hard work.

Although she maintained a determined intellect and a fierce independence in pursuing personal interests and nurturing her own talents throughout life, her marriage to John Kennedy and subsequent life as a wife and homemaker definitively shaped the rest of her life, and the public's perception of first ladies ever since. Although noted in some works as a study in contradictions--craving solitude but seeking out security in marriage, a social snob at times but a lover and protector of art and all things beautiful--Jackie has overall been referred to as The Kennedy Blessing, and rightly so. Together, this remarkable couple portrayed a certain innocence and optimism that anything is possible at a time when American desperately needed it.

One of her first accomplishments as a First Lady was the 1962 exhibit at the National Gallery, where she arranged to have the Mona Lisa displayed for the first time outside of Europe. Other accomplishments include having four children, having bearing through the loss of two of them, who died upon or after birth due to complications. Editing, among others, the books of Michael Jackson and Carly Simon. Running a campaign in the 1970's to save the famous Grand Central Station. Putting unprecedented energy and creativity into the arts and entertainment within and among the White House, notably the dinner held on May 11, 1962, on which then French Minister of Culture Andre Malraux was treated elegantly as a head of state.

One lesser known accomplishment of immeasurable worth as a wife, artist, and First Lady was a certain oil painting she rendered. Sometime between 1961 and 1963, Jacqueline observed a large oil painting at the White House as it appeared approximately in 1805. Using her artistic skills, she took watercolors and brush to easel to make a beautiful 5 X 7 replica of the painting. Personalizing the picture frame, she intended the piece as a gift for her beloved husband. While her usual signature was "J.B.K.", this particular piece was signed "J to J", clearly an expression of her characteristic endearment for her husband.

On September 12, 1953, Jackie's life changed forever when she married the indelible John F. Kennedy. Since then she has become a symbol and reminder that success is not about where you come from, but what you make of it with the gifts, skills, and situations you find within and among yourself at any point in life.

Reading: Its Golden Virtues and Hidden Dangers

There are few leisure activities that nourish and enrich the human mind as much as reading. It brings its wonderful lovers into rich and far-flung places without ever making a single step; but, unfortunately, many have abandoned this most marvelous pastime. Others, sheared of the critical cornerstones of elementary learning, have not been able to avail themselves to this most wonderful human recreation.

This article's arch objectives are to explain and demonstrate the golden beauty and wonderful benefits of reading; to warn readers about the ever lurking danger of devouring harmful, polluted literary materials that are not only destructive to them, but to society as well; and to encourage society to dive headlong into the refreshing pool of good reading and enjoy that hidden world of beauty and wonder that lies behind the pages of good, wholesome writing.

The world of warm, inspiring reading is an endless train of beautiful, enriching academic thought that cleanses, nourishes, strengthen, and polishes the magnificent gem of the human mind. There is nothing in the world that is as powerful and rich as the mind of man. It is replete with natural gifts, talents, and skills. Few people really realize how much power and potential are stored right in the treasury of their minds. Many wander from place to place looking feverishly for happiness, prosperity, wealth, and meaning to their empty existence without realizing that all they have ever needed and will ever desire is all stored right there in the quaint archive and golden vault of their minds. All people in the world were born wealthy: The wealth is in their minds; but, because they do not understand this aspect of life's tenebrous mystery, many die as paupers when indeed they should have led a life of wealth, splendor, luxury, prosperity, and pomp. A casual glance at the world's big shots overwhelmingly verifies this simple, yet often overlooked, fact that all human beings were born rich. This solemn and most crucial point is mentioned at this juncture to underscore the fact that good, wholesome reading nourishes, enlightens, and polishes the often coarse-looking pearl of the human mind. Once the pearl is properly fed with the nourishing aliments of good reading and polished with clean, positive, wholesome thoughts; the gems that it contains begin to shine and once seemingly worthless, empty lives bloom with grace, talent, and hitherto undiscovered potential.

What dramatic transformation that reading and its tremendously empowering capability impart to those who find the time to sit somewhere and just read good, quality content. But despite all the beautiful virtues of reading, it is rather consequential to be cognizant of the ever lurking dangers that hide behind the seemingly tame pages of books. While reading is such a precious, priceless pearl and delicious nutrition for the mind; consuming unwholesome reading materials is a poisonous germ with terrifying capabilities and ruinous consequences: It can destroy you and the entire world around you. Society and the world are fraught with people who have been brainwashed by the false socialization of public education, organized religion, and destructive politics controlled by clandestine societal institutions. In this regard, it is very important to connect with, and read content that delivers undisguised truth-watch what you read! Folks, the world that you think you have known so well is not the world that exists out there. Things are not what they seem to be: The world is an optical illusion filled with guileful and deceptive people who serve the darker side things; but you do not know that, and you take things at face value, missing the whole point to be very cautious about the world and its dashing philosophy of fun and a good time.

There are sharp, hidden nails behind the screen of the wonderful time that the world so often glibly promises people. When you look around at this world, you certainly do not see a world filled with people having such a marvelous time as is portrayed on television and in the movies. They hide the broken noses and battered cheeks of abused women and the pathetic corpses of drunk drivers who lost control of their automobiles on the highway coming home. It is all a charade that they do not want you to see and know. There is a cover up in this world, and not many know that the whole thing is a mirage-a lie that is very well told by the rich and famous of this world. This is not to scare you, but to simply warn you to beware of what you read, for all books are not created equal. The world is replete with brainwashing institutions whose principal goal is to distort, corrupt, and destroy your mind. As you look around today in society today, you cannot help but notice a world that is unraveling at its seams and rapidly falling apart. The massive pillars of world society are crumbling because the masses of the earth have been brainwashed by false, empty beliefs; fraud-driven, corrupt societal institutions; and crooked, mercenary politicians drunk with greed and lust and sin. These corrupt, public officials; obsessed and possessed with themselves and the devil are part of a venal machinery in this world that have flatly rejected the truth and have hauled away the teeming masses of the earth into the howling chasm of destruction.

These unfortunate consequences have sprung from the consumption of large amounts of false, poisonous literature. The earth's masses have devoured the wrong reading materials; they have read the wrong books-books filled with tort and vile contents that have poisoned their minds and the very soul of the earth. Against this backdrop, this writer would like to encourage you to dive headlong into the refreshing, pristine stream of good, morally safe reading. There are many good reading materials out there. Whatever pollutes and drives people to kill themselves and vast numbers of others could never be good for the human race, regardless of its religious origin. Turning massive crowds of innocent people into gruesome heaps of shrapnel, blood, flesh, and shredded bones could never be good for the human race under any circumstances whatsoever.

People ought to read good, salubrious materials like the Bible, works by French star writer Albert Camus, and the many great books of the Victorian Age. These wonderful books would take you back to a world that was saner, safer, and much more delightful than the one in which you live today. Additionally, this writer also advises you to explore this particular stream of thought and its unique, novel spin of how the world works. Contrary to the tremendously damaging effects of vile, poisonous reading that corrupts the mind; good reading nourishes, strengthens, motivates, and inspires the mind to do great things and affect the world in a wonderful way. It enables one to think for himself and to make decisions that would impact his life and the world in a positive way. This is the reason that reading wholesome, well balanced content is so crucial to a healthy, happy life and safe, secure society.

Unfortunately, for as much as the world's peoples have been brainwashed and misled by the vulpine, clandestine machinery of lies, guile, and subterfuge that rules this earth today; well balanced, factually accurate reading content often seems more like a fairytale that anything else. Consequently, it is necessary to warn readers not to cast negative judgment on things and ideas that are unfamiliar and new to them. The world is confused and falling apart because people have refused to question comfort-zone, traditional ideology and bluntly rejected novel, unfamiliar ideas as wrong and false. The irony here is that the world's peoples have flatly rebuffed and rejected the truth and have given their lives to protect and promote rank lies; dry, empty philosophies; and false, polluted sociopolitical systems that are not in their best interest. And, paradoxically, nowhere in the world has this strange, sociological paradox become more evident than right here in the United States.

The ship of the world economy virtually sank under Republican control during the Bush Administration and the United States practically became a sprawling poorhouse with a formerly vibrant machine of food pantries and hand-out outfits running out of oil just about everywhere. Many universities were (and still are) unable to function in the absence of these much-needed food pantries to help students make ends meet as the parents funds evaporated in thin air. The Republicans lost the Presidential Palace (White House is viewed by some as a symbol of racial bias) to the trig, spruce, natty Barak Obama who promised Americans change that they could take home; but four years later, in the wake of an almost one trillion dollar stimulus package-most of which went straight into the pockets of rich, Jewish bankers-to stimulate the economy, Americans are worse off today than they were back then. Why is this so? It is because the current American political system is not set up for ordinary Americans to succeed.

During the past decade or so, the cost of college education has grown at an exponential rate. This gate-keeper factor essentially strains the college applicants purely on the basis of economic superiority. It is a quaint, giant filter that sifts out the wheat (rich, prosperous Americans) from the chaff (poor, struggling Americans); but few have taken notice of this major revolutionary development in twenty-first century-American society. While all this is going on, the American middle class has virtually vanished; and the gap between the "Have" and the "Have Nots" has continued to widen; transmogrifying American society into a regular third-world country with two distinct classes: The rich an d the poor. Who did American war heroes go to the battlefield to protect: Ordinary Americans struggling to make ends meet or aristocratic, secret society henchmen with private and public agendas? You be the judge.

Hey, my name is Moulton Mayers (Straws). I am a philosophical scientist, science fiction writer, poet, and star guitarist. Most people think that they know the world in which they live and accept a lot of things as given. The truth is that if most people really knew the world in which they, they would lead entirely different lives. Have you ever wondered why, although the world is run by the brightest minds and the best of geniuses, it is awash with tears and disturbing evening news? Have you ever thought why the finest minds from the most prestigious universities in the world cannot straighten things out in this world? What is the origin of of war? Sure, all that does not bother you because no storms are blowing in your neck of the wood right now; but think about it: Why are you so evasive and dismissive about the nature and reality of the world in which you live? Could it be that you have been brainwashed to ignore these awful real-world occurrences and behave as if they are merely fairy tales when indeed you know that they are not. The world has been brainwashed by the guileful machine of the media to view things the wrong way. The world has replaced books with machines and turned people into dehumanized automotons. The world's smart boys have literally snatched books from reading lovers' hands and replaced them with trashy, technology-driven entertainment. Aren't you tired of the empty rat race for more treasure, pleasure, and entertainment in a rapidly disintegrating world? Doesn't that bother you sometimes? Hey, let's talk about it and let me show you the real world that you think you know so well. For four years the world had been at war with an unforgettable totalitarian regime bent on world domination. After the loss of hundreds of thousands of American soldiers, many of whom were just ordinary men, and the slow-moving recovery from the Great Depression, by August of 1945, victory over the Japanese empire had finally been achieved and declared. The American Spirit and endurance of its people had been tried and found resilient. President Truman, recognizing the time and timing of such a long-fought war, declared a four-day weekend for federal employees, a sort of special reward for those who were in one way or another directly or indirectly involved in the worst international crisis the country had ever experienced up to that time.

67 years have passed since the War's end, and it's official declaration came on a Tuesday: December 25th, 1945. Now featured in the collection is a fine relic and reminder of this long hope, one of the more important documents of World War II. Notably signed and historically inscribed by President Truman, he thoughtfully took the time to prepare a special Christmas present for his acting Press Secretary E. A. Ayers. To her he kindly wrote: "This was a happy birthday for me. I hope this will be a happy Christmas for you - 12/25/45". The proclamation called upon Americans to devote a day of prayer as a result of the surrender of Germany. It was also declared that this special prayer day will be Sunday, May 13th, 1945.

He points out that the Western world had been freed from evil forces which for 5 years or longer had imprisoned the bodies of free people and broken their lives. Additionally he reminds the reader that the enemy had violated churches, destroyed homes, corrupted children, and murdered their loved ones. Truman goes on to say that the Army of Liberation finally restored freedom to suffering peoples, whose spirit and will the oppressors could never enslave. He directs the reader's attention to the remaining work to be done in dealing with the Japanese empire, calling on the whole world to cleanse the evil from which only half the world had been freed.

For the past 25 years this magnificent piece has been in this renowned collection. As the years go by this important piece of American history will increase in value, continually attracting viewers and potential buyers from all over.

Top 10 Journalism Courses You Can Study Online - Be a Writer

Home study courses are certainly nothing new but they have evolved over the years, to the point where many of them are now conducted via the internet and email. This often means much quicker contact between student and tutor and generally makes communication throughout each course much smoother and more streamlined.

Journalism has become an extremely popular area of study during the last few years. We've had the explosion of all things social media, with the worlds of Twitter and Facebook changing the way news is delivered, to the point that not only can people receive news almost wherever they are but they can also make and be a part of breaking news.

Journalism itself has always been very diverse, but perhaps in the past, many have seen it as limited to the nightly TV news or the morning newspapers. The fact is, journalism is everywhere you look and there are journalists working in so many different fields.

Let's take a quick look at just some of the journalism areas that are available as online courses. You don't have to love politics to find your way into journalism these days! In no particular order, here's a top 10!
Having become a beauty queen, sex symbol, aspiring actress, and a celebrity of continual speculation and interpretation, Marilyn changed the film industry, photography, and the perception of the role of women and the changing American family for decades to come. Even among those still following the effect and impact of her life and contributions, controversy still abounds as to whether her skill as an actress ever truly got the recognition it deserved. Books and revelations seem to continue to come out each year, shedding new light and new spin to who she was and what happened in the circumstances leading up to her death, and its aftermath.

She appeared in many successful films, and due to typecasting, played various roles as part of a discovery process in finding out what she enjoyed the most as well as how to best market her developing skills. She often played what at the time was the new 'Sexy' dumb blonde role in movies such as How To Marry A Millionaire (1953) and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953). She showed her incredible talent in the now famous Some Like It Hot (1959). Other titles in which she starred were Bus Stop (1956) and The Misfits (1961).

The most indelible items of memorabilia from her life are the photographs, still engrained in the memories of many. In an 8.5 x 10-inch Life Magazine (in color, fairly new at the time), Monroe has signed "Love, Marilyn Monroe" in the lower, right-hand corner across her legs. Her first appearance in Life Magazine being in June of 1952, this photo-op ran in December of 1958. In this particular image, she agreed to have her makeup and hair rearranged so that she might pose as Marlene Dietrich. poses in the appropriate makeup as Marlene Dietrich. Other photos in this collection include a phenomenal sepia-toned photo, and another semi-profile shot with blonde curls, donning a white collar and tan coat.

It is now well known that her relatively short life was plagued by a various pains and problems, some involving prescription drugs, and various relationships that pulled her personal and political life in many unmanageable directions. This beautiful yet troubled woman was found dead on the morning of August 5th, 1962, at her Brentwood, Los Angeles home. Generally regarded as a highly underrated in her day, Miss Monroe was one of the most skilled actresses of her time.
Now what? The next question many students struggle with is how to pay for it.

The number of students from India studying at colleges and universities in the United States rose to a total of nearly 105,000 during the 2009/ 10 academic year, according to a report published annually by the Institute of International Education (IIE) with support from the U. S. Government.

But, the report goes on to say, 62 per cent of international students in the US funded themselves with only 38 per cent finding funds from other sources. In other words, competition for financial aid is intense. Aid comes in three main formats - full or partial scholarships, teaching or research assistantships where you work a set number of hours a week in exchange for tuition waivers and a stipend, or loans, which often require a guarantor, usually in the US. And who gets the coveted aid? It seems that winning financial aid has become somewhat of an entrepreneurial endeavor. While merit still rules, careful planning, calculated risk taking, positioning and resourcefulness have become critical.

Let's begin with where the money comes from. The top sources for aid were US colleges and universities (24 per cent), current employer (5.2 per cent) and home government or university (4.6 per cent).

Pure Science and Engineering subjects have higher demand, than say, something like education. So getting an assistantship is easier. Your schools ranking is important - most of the top schools are well funded. Where the school is located will also make a difference. The same money, which pays your tuition and part of your rent in New York, will buy you tuition, rent, groceries and leave you with leftovers in Ann Arbor. It pays, then, to carefully research the schools on your list and position yourself accordingly - what kind of funding they have offered in the past, their ranks for your field of study, their location, how many international students they take in every year, whether the school is private or public, their size of undergraduate population and their areas of research (an indication of research assistantships).

For PHDs, most universities are dying to get good students so they compete to give aid. A full scholarship sounds wonderful but is not always the option. Many students take the approach of a patchwork of different kinds of aid instead of one big grant.

Others decide to take the risk of sponsoring themselves or taking a loan for a year, transitioning to scholarships or assistantships in a few semesters. As you start your search, most recommend a broad, pull out all the stops search. Start with the universities website or admissions package, visit websites and offices of US and Indian foundations (such as United States India Educational Foundation and the Tata Scholarships), reach seniors in your target universities through social networks such as LinkedIn or your college's alumni associations, ask your professors for recommendations, write to professors (or professor's assistants) in your target university who are conducting research in your field of interest.

And in the midst of all this, beware of 'paid services' or scams out to get you and your personal information. The good news is that funding for international students from US colleges and Universities has actually increased by 9 per cent in the last year.
National schools are now offering candidates a heavy equipment training guide and hands on training to make operators control their machinery with more knowledge, confidence and expertise.

Construction and housing are major drivers in an economy. The US economy and most world economies are presently going through recession and shedding jobs in all sectors. For the economy in the US to recover, more money has to be poured into infrastructure projects to stimulate drivers like the construction industry. Stalling investment in such sectors has been hurting growth and not providing a necessary stimulus. Recently the British government promised a multi billion pound drive to encourage new ventures in large infrastructure projects. Way back in 2008, President Obama had promised to boost the floundering economy and create 2.5 million jobs by January 2011 by kick-starting stalled infrastructure projects. More action is needed by politicians to implement those plans and create the required impetus in the construction industry. Once the economy turns around the workers who have taken courses from certified and recognised heavy equipment training schools will be the ones in most demand.

Crane operators hold responsible positions in the construction industry. The machinery they operate may cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Contractors generally hire old experienced hands. If they hire entry level candidates, it is always preferable for them to have a heavy equipment training guide to have briefed them prior to taking up the job.

Cranes are used for hauling and lowering materials. A machine consists of a derrick or tower to lift and lower cargoes. Cables and pulley systems attached to the derrick are operated via radio controls or through a push button pendant control station by the operator in the crane cab. The security of the construction crew and efficiency of the work depends on the proficiency of the crane operator. By investing some money in guidance and training, an operator stands to gain more confidence and better handling skills.

With the use of heavy equipment training guide, an operator can gain knowledge in how to operate their machinery in challenging situations in various soil types, slopes, rough and irregular terrain and other conditions. Accidents involving cranes overturning can result in grave injuries and even fatalities. Such incidents can cause more than financial losses to the contractors. Deaths and injuries are bad for employee morale, cause insurance hassles and costly delays.

If you are looking for a heavy equipment training guide, visit the website of National Association of Heavy Equipment Training Schools (NAHETS) for listings of local schools
Drumming alone at home is great fun, but not a patch on the excitement of playing along with other musicians and really driving a band. If you are just starting out on this path, I hope you will find this article useful.. I've drawn on my many years of experience as a performer, and hope to help you get the most from your music.

Firstly, you do not need to be a brilliant player to benefit from playing in a band... If you look hard enough there are always opportunities to play along with others... maybe a jam session at the local pub, a church music group, or a small band with a few old friends, all of these are a great way to expose you to playing live.

Perhaps you've been having regular drum lessons, have got a good sense of rhythm and know enough beats and fills to be able to play along with backing tracks of some of your favourite songs.... well now's the time ditch the backing tracks and find some real musicians. Check out the notice board in your local music shop for musicians wanted adverts, or check the local paper or even the internet (there are now several websites dedicated to bands/musicians wanted). As already mentioned, local Jam nights are a great starting point..you can go along and if you feel confident enough get up and perform one or two songs with the house band in a relaxed atmosphere. This should give you the boost you need and these places are often packed with other musicians looking for bands.. who knows who you could meet??

Once you have found some fellow musicians and arranged a few rehearsals, you need to ensure that you all have pretty much the same tastes in music and also the same goals... maybe you just want a fun band to play at friends parties, or something a little more serious ( perhaps even playing your own original material ). If you have been having drum tuition, you should find now that your playing really improves...there is nothing better for the developing drumming than playing "for real", and hopefully all those little fills and rhythms you've worked on will start to make sense. You should also find that any good drum teacher will be happy to help you to prepare and learn the bands songs. In my own teaching practice I often get students bring along a CD of a particular song that they need to learn in time for their next band practice, and I find that this is one of the most rewarding parts of the job... to help them learn a song and then maybe go and see them perform it live a few weeks later. Your teacher should also help to advise what gear works well for a particular gig (eg.. a little jazz quartet gig? small bass drum and thin cymbals,.... heavy metal?? big drums, heavy cymbals). between your new band and the guidance of your drum tutor you should find yourself growing rapidly as a drummer, which in turn will really spur you on to make even more progress.

So, the rehearsals have been going well and before you know it your first gig is on the horizon! For some people this is a really exciting time, for others its a real nerve wracker!! If you fall into the latter camp, don't worry as there are things you can do to ensure everything runs smoothly. Firstly, make sure you are prepared... know the songs well, ensure your gear is in good condition and wont let you down. get to the gig venue in plenty of time so you can set up at your leisure and get a feel for the place. One thing I have seen people do when suffering from stage fright is to drink heavily... Dont do it! This really causes more problems than it solves, so keep away from the alcohol, stay focused and enjoy the experience. Hopefully it will be the first of many gigs. In my opinion there really is nothing better than being able to go out and perform. During my drumming career Ive been fortunate enough to meet some wonderful people and visit some fantastic places.... things that wouldn't have happened had it not been for my drumming. So, remember how fortunate you are to be able to play and enjoy music.

As time goes by you might get to a position of wanting to earn a little money from your drumming. There are various avenues for this, such as playing in a wedding / function band. These tend to get steady work (maybe 1 or 2 gigs per week) and they pay quite well. If you are receiving money for playing, you have a duty to ensure that you act as a professional... arrive early, be easy to get along with, look the part, be prepared etc. Other opportunities for regular paid gigs are holiday camps, cruise liners, and even being a drummer in the Armed Forces. In the UK, the Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Marines all offer full time jobs for musicians..not only do you get to travel the world playing the drums, but you also get well paid for it!

You might however decide that you only ever want to play for your own enjoyment, and that is reward in itself. Music can bring huge joy to all those involved and is a truly wonderful pastime.
This is an age-old question and there is no particular answer. However, there are a few things you should know when you practice the piano in order to decide how often and for how long you should be sitting at the piano in a given week.

First of all, the key when learning anything new - musical or not - is consistency. Your brain needs to be subjected to that new thing you are learning on a consistent basis in order to truly assimilate the information. This is a mistake that many piano beginners make, unfortunately. They'll either go to their lessons once a week and think that this is all you need to learn how to play the piano, or they'll sit down for a few hours one day and practice without ever coming back to the instrument for the rest of the week.

Think about it: if you were learning a new language, you'd have to practice it and have frequent conversations with a native speaker in order to keep it up and learn new words. If you were learning how to solve mathematics equation, you'd have to work on it frequently before you can really say that you 'know' how to solve this equation. The same goes with playing music. Regardless of what instrument you play, you'll have to practice if you want to improve and become better. There is no fast tracking and there is no way one day of practice a week will help you. So, what you need is to make sure that you practice the piano at least 5 days a week. Everyday is better, if you can pull it off, but not everyone's lives allow them to do so.

Another important point to remember is that if you practice consistently, you won't need to practice hours at a time. This is great news for anyone with busy lives, families, work, etc. Many students feel overwhelmed when practicing because they think they need to play for an hour everyday. While you would most likely see great results in your playing by doing so, you do not have to practice the piano for hours in order to see improvement. For beginners, a simple 15 minutes a day would do. If you practice consistently, as per the above recommendations, you'll be able to reduce the amount of time you spend practicing each day without compromising the results. Give yourself an attainable goal; it is completely unrealistic to sit down with the intention of practicing for 2 hours if you are just starting to learn how to play the piano.

Aim for 15 minutes; this will give you time to practice a scale, a song and anything else you might be working on at the moment without overwhelming you. Most of the time, 15 minutes will go by and you'll feel that you can go a bit longer, and you might even want to practice a bit longer. You are certainly encouraged to keep going, if you have the energy and the will to do so - however you'll at least know that you achieved your daily goal, which is very encouraging as a beginner. Another great way of viewing your daily practice is to select a day in the week during which you'll work a bit longer. For example, let's say that you know you're always free on Saturdays. You can aim to practice for 30 minutes or 45 minutes on Saturdays, and then reduce your practice time to 15 minutes for the rest of the week. This longer practice session will give you the opportunity to work on details and passages that may be harder, while you'll be able to play through everything and review what you worked on Saturday during the rest of the week.

Finally it is important to understand that when you practice the piano, it really is more about quality than quantity. You may be practicing for hours every day, but if you are not practicing well, it's not going to make you any better. Make sure that you can focus on what you are doing when you are practicing; reduce distractions, give yourself those few minutes every day to only think about the piano. In a few weeks, you'll finally understand how to play the piano and be able to set attainable goals for yourself when you practice the piano.
Competencies is gradually layered on through many years of education to produce a proficient reader. While each child learns differently, the ranges of reading commonly follow each other the same way for all learners, as cognitive progress plays a part in the development of reading competencies as well.

Proceeding through each stage of reading improvement is primarily based on mastering the previous stage. Some children may take more time to understand each skill level, while others breeze right through. You may see some students get "stuck" in one stage and need additional instruction to move on to more abstract skills.

Some continuums of reading development describe the intensity of skills according to age or grade levels. Other reading curriculums avoid leveling children by age or grade and devise a unique system of leveling literature. This can be helpful for people who teach using a homeschool curriculum.

Pre-emergent Reading

Parents can begin working on pre-emergent reading competencies with their children at birth. Is a newborn really going to attach meaning to the pictures? Probably not. However, this is the ideal time to get started developing a reading regimen as a household through use of books and educational toys. Make sure kids have access to a variety of books. Educate your child how to gently turn pages working from left to right. Beginning around age two, your young preschooler will start to connect pictures to the words in the story. You may hear him reciting a story that you regularly read together or making a small prediction about what will happen next. These are all excellent examples of children developing pre-literacy skills.

Early Emergent

Children in the Early Emergent stage of literacy can detect upper and lower case letters. They are starting to recognize corresponding sounds that go with each letter. Present your little one with books where pictures are an essential component of the story. Teachers may integrate their classroom decorations to display letters, letter blends, and examples of items that effectively use each letter. The text will be repetitive, predictable, and will likely focus on particular letter combinations. This is the stage where kids begin understanding to blend letter sounds with each other to make words.

Emergent Readers

The Emergent Reader has gained more self confidence with letters and their corresponding sounds. They are working to utilize simple phonics rules to decode words in their reading. At this point, basic comprehension capabilities are starting to be introduced. Pictures still play a vital part in literature that is pertinent for this level.

Early Fluent Stage

Children begin reading independently in the Early Fluent stage of reading. The vocabulary in the literature becomes more varied and descriptive. The purpose of reading shifts to concentrate more on comprehension as opposed to decoding words and confidence starts to develop. Students start to realize their own mistakes in reading and may self-correct if a sentence does not make sense. They also begin to use their own knowledge to relate to the text.

Fluent Readers

Students in the Fluent stage of reading continue expanding their vocabulary to give meaning to more complex sentence structures. In terms of grade level, children are performing around grade 4 at this point. Additional details are included in literature and children begin to recall additional facts from the reading. They become more comfortable reading non-fiction and making use of reading for the purpose of learning. Their expression while reading becomes more distinct instead of using a monotone voice when reading aloud. Students have also gained the capacity to make use of context clues to understand unfamiliar vocabulary.

Transitional Reading

Transitional readers have began reading longer pieces of literature for meaning. They are able to connect new principles from prior readings to the text they are currently reading. This skill plays an important part of subject specific comprehension when reading information in science and history textbooks. These students will stop to ascertain unfamiliar words in their reading without losing meaning of the information. They are also progressively able to exhibit comprehension by means of writing.

Proficient and Critical Reading

Of course, the ultimate goal is to develop proficient readers who read for knowledge. This reader can determine literature from an appropriate genre for their reading level and will have fluent word flow while reading silent and aloud. They are able to extend and analyze new knowledge from the reading, beyond their own prior knowledge. The main idea is quickly identified with points to support the content. The student understands cause and effect, is able to sequence story events accurately, and compare and contrast the events or characters.

Critical reading is created from skills such as reading from higher level textbooks with the ability to take appropriate notes from the text. The reader can demonstrate comprehension through detailed writing and is able to speak about the reading with others. While most children will at some point become proficient readers, not all will perform critical reading skills. Critical reading should be worked on well into the high school years to prepare students for post-secondary education and future careers.

One of the things which are unusual about Baba Yaga is that unlike other witches, she does not ride a broom. Instead, she pushes herself across the forest floor with a pestle in a mortar (in which she barely fits). She can also fly across the sky in this uncomfortable position as well. In some stories it was said that she also had two sisters(also named Baba Yaga, to help make things really confusing).

She lives in a hut that dances around on a pair of chicken legs. The keyhole to her front door is a mouth filled with sharp teeth. The fence outside is made with human bones with skulls on top, often with one pole lacking its skull, leaving space for the hero or heroes of the stories.

Although Baba Yaga is sometimes portrayed as an ugly, malevolent force, some characters in other folk stories have been known to seek her out for her wisdom, and she has been known on rare occasions to offer guidance to lost souls. and stories in which she kidnaps children and threatens to eat them. It may be that the "child eating" portion of her depiction was formed to keep children from wandering off into the woods or to behave or "Baba Yaga would come for them".

Seeking out her aid is usually portrayed as a dangerous act. An emphasis is placed on the need for proper preparation and purity of spirit, as well as basic politeness. It is said she ages one year every time she is asked a question, which may explain her reluctance to help.

In general, the witch Baba Yaga is decidedly a wretched and evil presence, as was commonly associated with witches. This portrayal was in keeping with the usual depiction of witches and how they had powers, items and attributes of an otherworldly nature. Since the introduction of events such as the Salem witch trials and other such terrible occurrences, many people now understand that witches or those who are practicing Wiccans are harmless and revere the earth and the elements(with which Baba Yaga was mostly associated with).

Unfortunately, even today "witches" are persecuted and tortured and murdered for their beliefs. As recently as December of 2011, a Saudi woman was beheaded for "witchcraft and sorcery". Some information sites provide up to the minute on these happenings. It is alarming how these atrocities can continue in a society and world where we believe that we have evolved to a degree over the past 500-700 years. In some places it's simply not true.

Brawn Barber has been a practicing eclectic Wiccan for 20 years and owns and operates "Baba Yaga's Hut", an online store which provides Wiccan ritual items, amulets and talismans and other related products. They also have a "museum store" which has artwork including Greek, Roman, Norse, Egyptian, Pre-Columbian and Ancient goddess statuary, vases and wall reliefs. You may view this site at:
This is one of the reasons that the field of Phlebotomy requires a strict certification process in order to be qualified. The Phlebotomy certification process follows standard procedures and safety measures so that patients can be assured they are dealing with a qualified professional.

The Phlebotomy Certification Process

It begins with a variety of courses taken from reputable schools and facilities. They are located across the country, so finding a good school near you should not be an issue. The training courses involve such things as anatomy, psychology, biology, and several other topics. It covers a wide range so you have your choice of what area you'd like to concentrate on when you have completed your necessary schooling. After each course, you'll be required to take tests and exams to determine your level of skill in each area.

There is also a good deal of hands-on training, and you'll be able to work closely with a qualified professional to further develop your skills. The courses normally take anywhere from 12 - 24 months to complete depending on whether you go full time or part time and whether you pass all of your courses the first time. Once everything has been completed, you can write your certification exam. There are several agencies located across the country that are authorized to give the exam.

How Much Does Phlebotomy Certification Cost?

When you consider the importance of this career and the responsibilities involved in dealing with patients of all ages, then it stands to reason that you are going to have to pay. Each course has a fee associated with it, and the entire course, including certification could cost you in the neighborhood of $2,500 or more. The costs vary widely and are less if you decide to partially train at home. This is not something you will be able to do full time at home though; there will be a required amount of hands-on hours that you must obtain first.

The Phlebotomy certification process is not easy, and it is not a get-rich-quick way to a new career. Like most other things in life, it will take some self-discipline, perseverance and hard work to be successful. Before taking any courses make sure that this is the field you want to get into; do some research online and talk to several training facilities before deciding on one that is right for you. A career in the health care industry has always been considered recession-proof and this field is no exception. If you want a stable income for you and your family, phlebotomy certification training may be your answer.

Becoming a certified phlebotomist isn't hard as you may think. You only have to complete a Phlebotomy Training and take the exam. To learn more about phlebotomy, please check this website:
Time and time again, I cannot explain how I manage to find this man to be mindblowingly arrogant and quite frankly, a general weirdo, and yet I have LOVED just about every movie I have ever seen him in. It's like a twisted form of admiration that even I don't quite understand, because I am serious when I say this: I REALLY don't like him. And yet true to form, by the end of MI-4, I was under that spell again.

THE GOOD: Blamed for the recent bombing of the Kremlin, the IMF is shut down and all members are disavowed, which leaves Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his fellow agents on their own to clear the agency's name and prevent another attack-this one designed to be on a more frightening scale. Joined by agents Benji, the tech nerd (Simon Pegg), the beautiful Jane(Paula Patton), and desk jockey analyst Brandt (Jeremy Renner), Ethan is in a race to stop Hendricks (played by Michael Nyqvist), a lone terrorist who has managed to steal Russian nuclear codes. As in every previous Mission film, there is no shortage of action and intrigue, but this one seemed to have exceeded them all, thanks in no small part to the much advertised scene of Tom Cruise scaling the Burj Khalifa in Dubai-the world's tallest skyscraper. There's been a lot of talk about the fact that a stunt man was NOT used in this scene, implying obviously that Tom did it all on his own. I haven't been able to independently dispute or confirm this, but may I just say that if it IS true, I have gained an entirely new level of admiration for this man. I still don't like him, but you have to have some healthy respect for someone who is willing to do a stunt like that. I think it also cements the fact that there's something not quite right in his head too, but there's no need to get into that here.

Besides the infamous Dubai scene, there are plenty of moments to keep you jumping, covering your mouth, cringing, peeking through your fingers and sometimes even laughing, as all of it is carried out with such casualness at times that you almost forget there's the threat of a nuclear war at stake. Let me put it another way: let's say-hypothetically--- that a person was to sit down in this movie and realize 5 minutes in that she-or he--- needed to pee. Let's also say for argument's sake that this fictional person also had a large diet Coke in their possession and, throwing caution to the wind, drank the entire thing and STILL never left the movie once to use the restroom because it was just THAT GOOD. I'm not saying it happened. I'm just saying it's entirely feasible.

As a side note, due to my aforementioned love/hate relationship with Mr. Cruise, I HAVE to add in this section the added bonus of seeing him smack his head on a few really large hard objects a couple times. It's the little things that sometimes bring the most pleasure.

THE BAD: If I could point to anything in this movie being truly unappealing, it would have to be a toss- up between the Pompadour hairdo of the Indian Prince that Jane is enlisted to seduce, and the skyscraper scene---because as impressive as it was, I have some serious fear of height issues. Some of the camera angles, designed to show just how far up Cruise was (and no doubt impress you even further that there seemed to be no nets or safety devices of any kind---did I mention earlier that someone's marbles are missing?) had me covering my eyes and feeling a tad green. So when I say that it was a "bad" part of the movie, I don't mean it shouldn't have been included, as I usually am implying in this section...only that if you happen to be height sensitive like I am, you should be advised to apply that Dramamine patch before sitting down.

THE UGLY: As disturbing as seeing a man being shot through the head while riding in a car might be, as nightmarish as it is seeing a woman fall to her death from 1000 ft in the sky, there was really only one thing in this movie that could truly be described as scary, and that would be Tom Cruise's feet. Sweet Saint Peter...the feet. I feel that I am at liberty to judge other people's hooves, because I personally have troll feet. At least that's what my husband tells me.

Apparently I am fortunate that he is not a 'foot man' or I would still be single. So when I say that Tom Cruise has ugly feet---noted in a scene where he is barefoot and standing on the ledge of a building---it is only because I know a pair of hideous flippers when I see them.

If you are a fan of the MI franchise, then it's a no brainer that you will love this one as well. All the right elements are there to make it a total gut wrenching thrill ride from start to finish....just make sure to hit the restroom before it gets started. I'm just saying.

The Trophy Wife gives the movie 4 trophies.

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol has a running time of 133 minutes and is rated PG-13 for sequences of intense violence and action. (No F words uttered)
The hero in these stories is the character of Harry Potter. The fantasy in these books revolves around magic. Harry is born a wizard and therefore has the power to perform magic. He realizes that there are many other magic people on earth who are witches and wizards and who live unknown amongst the 'Muggles', or normal people who have no magic powers. When Harry is eleven years old a letter is sent to him that invites him to attend Hogwarts, a boarding school for young wizards and witches. Each of the seven books in the series tells the reader about a year of Harry's life at his school, the people he meets at the school, what he learns, as well as his adventures.

There have been over 450 million copies of the book series that have been sold as of mid 2011, and the books have been translated into sixty-seven languages. The idea for the character and the books came to the author's mind while waiting on a train that was delayed on the way to London in 1990. Her first book was completed in 1995 and the publishers asked her to use a more gender neutral name in case boys would be put off reading an exciting novel written by a woman. Harry's birthday is on July 31st, which happens to be the author's birthday as well.
