Download Sample Drawing

Download and open M_Roller.dwg

On the status bar, make sure the following settings are on:

1. Snap

2. Polar tracking

3. Object snap

Right-click Polar Tracking and select Settings.

In the Drafting Settings dialog box, Polar Tracking tab:

Select 15 from the Increment Angle list.

Under Polar Angle Measurement, click Absolute.

On the Snap and Grid tab:

Click PolarSnap.

Enter 1 in the Polar Distance field.

On the Object Snap tab:

Make sure Endpoint and Node are selected.

Click OK.

To draw the line using polar tracking:

Activate the Line tool.

1. Specify the line's start point from the point object, using the Node object snap override.

2. Drag the cursor to the right until the polar tracking tooltip reads 25.00 < 0 degrees. Click the point.

Position the cursor so that the polar angle tooltip reads 15.00 < 45. Click the point.

Position the cursor so that the polar angle tooltip reads 25.00 <0. Click the point.

Position the cursor so that the polar angle tooltip reads 15.00 <315. Click the point.

Position the cursor so that the polar angle tooltip reads 25.00 <0. Click the point.

Move the cursor upwards until the polar tracking cursor reads 70.00 < 90. Click the point.

Repeat these steps to draw the top half of the object which mirrors the bottom half, changing the Polar angle accordingly. Your final endpoint should be at the original start point.

Press ENTER to repeat the Line command. Select the endpoints indicated in the following image to draw the inner vertical lines. Press ENTER to end the Line command.

Save file and close.

1. Download Free AutoCAD Tutorial Object-Snaps.dwg and Open.
2. On the status bar, make sure the following settings are on:

Object snap
Dynamic input

3. To set object snaps:

On the status bar, right-click Object Snap. Click Settings.
In the Drafting Settings dialog box, Object Snap tab, set the running object snaps as shown in the following illustration.
Clear all object snaps in the column on the right-side.
Click OK.

4. To draw a line:

On the Home tab, click Draw panel > Line.
Select the endpoints as shown in the following illustration. Notice the appearance of the object snap.
Press ENTER to end the Line command.

Tip: You may need to use zoom and pan in order to view and snap to the correct points.
5. Press ENTER to repeat the Line command. Use the Endpoint object snap to create another line right next to the previous one.

6. To draw a circle:

On the Home tab, click Draw panel > Circle.
Touch the outer circle and you should see the Center snap marker. When the marker appears, click to select the center point.

Enter 6. Press ENTER.

Your circle should appear as shown in the following image.

7. Repeat the Circle command for the other three corners of the part.
Tip: The last radius value that you used is remembered, so when you are prompted for the radius, press ENTER.
Over the next few steps, you will use the object snap overrides to create geometry on the part.
8. To draw a line:

On the Home tab, click Draw panel > Line.
SHIFT+right-click and click Quadrant on the shortcut menu.
Select the lower quadrant of the circle on the bottom left of the part.

SHIFT+right-click and click Perpendicular on the shortcut menu.
Select the vertical line on the part. Press ENTER to end the Line command.

9. Repeat the previous step on the opposite side of the part.

10. Close all files and save.

Creating A Basic Object in AutoCAD

In this part of the exercise, you begin to draw the front view of the bracket, beginning at point (1) and ending at point (2).

Then, you resume drawing from point (1) to point (3).

1. Create a New Drawing. Use acadiso.dwg as template (Metric).

2. On the status bar, make sure the following settings are on:

Polar tracking
Object snap
Object snap tracking
Dynamic input

3. Begin the line at point (1):

On the Home tab, click Draw panel > Line or on the Command Line, type L or Line
Enter 100, 50. Press ENTER.
Enter 100. Press TAB.
Enter 0. Press TAB.
Note: The values should appear in the Input interface as shown in the following image.
Click to create the line.

4. Draw a second line perpendicular to the first:

Drag the cursor upwards and enter 100. Press TAB.
Make sure the angle field displays 90 degrees, then click to draw the line.

5. Draw another line:

Drag the cursor to the left making sure that the angle field displays 180 degrees.
Enter 25. Press ENTER.

Note: Using direct distance entry in combination with dynamic input provides you with optimal flexibility in creating your drawings.

6. Draw another line:

Drag the cursor downward making sure that the angle field displays 90 degrees.
Enter 50. Press ENTER.
Press ENTER again to finish the line command at point (2).

7. Draw a line using object snaps:

Note: Object snaps are points on objects which enable you to accurately position other objects.

Draw a Line
As you approach the endpoint of the line, the endpoint object snap marker should appear.
Click to select the endpoint of the line.

8. Draw a line perpendicular to the last:

Drag the cursor upward making sure that the angle field displays 90 degrees.
Enter 100. Press ENTER.

9. Draw a a horizontal line:

Drag the cursor to the right making sure the angle field displays 0 degrees.
Enter 35. Press ENTER.

The distance you meant to use is 25.

Right-click near your last point. Click Undo.
Because you are still in the Line command, only the last line segment that you drew is removed.
Drag the cursor to the right again, making sure that the angle field displays 0 degrees.

Enter 25. Press ENTER.

10. Draw a line perpendicular to the last:

Drag the cursor downward, making sure that the angle field displays 90 degrees.
Enter 50. Press ENTER.

11. Press ENTER to exit the Line command. Proceed to part two of this exercise.

Practice Creating Basic Objects: Part 2

In this part of the exercise, you draw the arc (1) in the front view of the bracket and add the side view (2). You then place the circles and polygons (3) in the four corners of the front view.

12. Draw the arc:

On the Home tab, click Draw panel > Arc. on the Command Line: type A or ARC
Select the endpoint of the previous line.
Press DOWN ARROW and click End on the shortcut menu.

13. Select the endpoint on the right side of the opening.

14. To finish the arc:

Drag the cursor to the left, making sure that the angle field displays 180 degrees.
Enter 25. Press ENTER.
Your drawing should now appear as shown.

15. Click File menu > Save.

Tip: You should develop a habit of saving files often.

16. Draw a rectangle:

On the Home tab, click Draw panel > Rectangle.
Touch (DO NOT CLICK) point (1) as indicated in the following image.
Drag the cursor to the right. The extension object snap draws a dashed extension line.
Click near point (2).

17. Position the rectangle:

Right-click near your first point and select Dimensions on the shortcut menu.

Note: This specifies the Dimension option of the Rectangle command.

For the length, enter 25. Press ENTER.
For the width, enter 100. Press ENTER.
Click in the upper right of the drawing to position the rectangle.

Your drawing should now appear as shown in the following image.

18. Draw a circle:

On the Home tab, click Draw panel > Circle. on the Command Line, type C or CIRCLE.
Enter 112.50,65 as the center point of the circle and press ENTER.
In the Dynamic Input Radius field, enter 7.5. Press ENTER.

19. Draw a rectangle:

On the Home tab, click Draw panel > Rectangle. on the Command Line, type REC
Select the center point of the circle (1).

Note: The object snap marker should appear as you approach the center of the circle.

Drag the cursor to the upper right (2) and enter 75,70. Press ENTER.
Your drawing should appear as shown.

20. Draw three more circles as shown:

On the Home tab, click Draw panel > Circle.
Create three circles, each with a 7.5 unit radius, using the corners of the rectangles as center points.

Tip: The software stores the last radius that you entered. If the command prompt is reading <7.500> you can press ENTER to reuse that value for the radius.

21. On the Home tab, click Modify panel > Erase. Select the rectangle that was used to position the circles. Press ENTER.

22. Draw a polygon circumscribing the top left circle:

On the Home tab, click Draw panel > Polygon. on the Command Line, type POLYGON.
When prompted for the number of sides, enter 6.
Select the center of the top left circle.
In the Dynamic Input menu, select Circumscribed About Circle.
For the radius, enter 8. Press ENTER.

23. Create three similar polygons circumscribing the other circles:

Press ENTER to repeat the Polygon command.
Create three additional polygons on the remaining circles as shown.

24. Save.

This is second video in working with SketchUp and CAD and progresses from our previous video in using the CAD plan as a reference to create interior and exterior walls for our model.

Google SketchUp Array Tutorial

Array command usually found in various CAD program such as AutoCAD. Array command functions like a copy command to duplicate entities or objects.

To create an Array in SketchUp use the Move tool in combination of CTRL (control) key and Rotate tool with CTRL key to make one copy then tell SketchUp how many total copies you want.

Lets begin with these tutorials. The first one is creating a Rectangular Array using the Move Tool. You can achieve this by using the two techniques, the External Array and the Internal Array or In Between.

Rectangular Array:
Step 1. Select the object.

Step 2. Then select Move Tool.

Step 3. Select the end point of the object while holding down the CTRL Key down.

Step 4. Move and align the object according to its Axis (Red, Green, Blue), do not release the CTRL Key while doing this.

Step 5. After aligning the object to its axis, release the CTRL Key and key in the desired distance and hit Enter Key. Put 150 for example.

Step 6. After entering the desired distance, then type “5x” or “x5” to create 5 identical arrayed copies of the object.

In this method we use the external array type were object are multiplied array outward.

The next method is the internal array- creating a divided array inward.

Using the Move Tool again copy the object (while holding the CTRL Key) to your desired distance.

Then type “4/” or “/4” to create arrayed copies of the object one in the end and 3 divided equally between the original object and the other object.

Polar or Circular Array:
You can do the same logic in creating a Circular Array in SketchUp by using the Rotate Tool.
Step 1. Select the object and click on Rotate Tool.

Step 2. Create a copy.

Again, the important next step is to make a one copy. Holding down the CTRL key, while rotating the object to make a copy. Finish that copy and specify the number of an array so you could copy this object once.

For example, let say 15 degrees and type “9x” or “x9” for External Circular Array.

or you can copy the objects 180 degrees away,

then place the number of objects in between by typing the number followed by / symbol, example “9/” or “/9” to create an Internal Circular Array.

Combining Color and Gray Scale Photo Using Color Isolation Technique in Photoshop

This tutorial teaches us on how to combine a black and white photo with a colored photo using the color isolation technique in Photoshop. This tutorial was made using a Photoshop CS4.

Step 1: Load Image on Photoshop

Load the image on Photoshop.

Step 2: Unlock the Layer

Double click the Lock Icon while holding the "ALT" key to unlock the layer.

Step 3: Duplicate Layer

1. Right click on Layer 0 to access the shortcut menu.
2. Select "Duplicate Layer..." to duplicate the layer.

Step 4: Naming Layer

Rename Layer 0 copy to Layer 1 (you can name whatever you want).

Step 5: Desaturate "Layer 0"

Select Layer 0 on Layer Panel and Desaturate it. (For the shortcut key, use "Shift+Ctrl+U")
1. Select image on the menu bar.
2. Select Adjustments
3. Select Desaturate

Layer 0 will be converted to gray scale mode as shown.

Step 6: Adding Layer Mask on Layer 1

On Layers panel, select Layer 1, one with the colored image and apply a layer mask on it.

Make sure that layer mask is enabled before applying mask to your image. To enable, just click on the layer mask thumbnail next to your image layer thumbnail. When working with mask, there are only two colors involved, black and white. Black color erases and white do paint. You can also use different shades of grey to achieve different opacities.

Step 7: Applying Mask to your current layer

1. Select Brush (shortcut key: "B") tool on Tool Panels
2. Click on "Set Foreground Color" icon
3. Select "Black" by selecting the bottom-right corner of the color picker window

Changing Brush Strokes and Size

In changing the brush size, stroke, soft edge or hard edge of brush do the following:

1. On the Brush tool, select the pull down button.

2. Use the scrubber to change the brush size you want.

3. Set the hardness. In this tutorial, I set it to 100% to achieved the solid edge brush. If you want a softer edge slide the scrubber to the left.

Note: You can use [key to decrease and] key to increase the brush size while working with mouse.

Step 8: Applying the Mask Using Brush

Now apply it the image except for the lips and the eyes as shown on the image above.

Step 9: Finishing Your Project

To make the lips and eye brighter, we will use the Dodge tool.

Select Dodge Tool (Shortcut key: "O") and apply to both eyes and lips.

Adding Custom Hatch Pattern in AutoCAD 2011

Customs AutoCAD hatch pattern are very much easier to manage. All you have to do is to create a dedicated directory where your hatch pattern to be kept or saved and add it to the Support File Search Path in AutoCAD 2011.

Here is the step by step on how to add Custom Hatch Pattern in AutoCAD 2011:

( Let’s assume that you have already downloaded a hatch pattern. If not here is the link where you can download free hatch patter. )

Step 1 : Extract or unzip the zip file to your desired directory/folder or location.

Step 2: In AutoCAD go to Tools Menu and then select Options to open the option dialog box.

Step 3: In Option Dialog box, select Support File Search Path. This option allows you specify folders in which AutoCAD should look for text fonts, customization files, plug-ins, drawings to insert, linetypes, and hatch patterns that are not in the current folder. Then select the Add button.

After hitting the Add button, AutoCAD will add a new line, type or paste the full path where your custom hatch patterns are kept. For instance, D:\Downloads\roof (it is where my custom hatch pattern are).

After adding the full path, click Apply button and Ok button.

Here is the Screenshot where my folder was located.

Now that your folder containing your custom hatch pattern was, you can insert hatch pattern in AutoCAD by selecting the Predefined or Custom Type as required, then select an individual hatch. The Standard patterns are available from the Predefined menu and your non-standard patterns are listed in the Custom menu.

How to Create a Custom Paper Size Using DWF6 e Plot.pc3 in AutoCAD

After you have completed a drawing, you can store it on the computer storage device such as hard drive or flash drive. However, to get its hard copy, you should plot or print the drawing on a sheet of paper using a plotter or printer.
This tutorial we will learn how to configure the layout or creating a custom paper size without having trouble in a multiple printer installed in your system.

Step 1

1. On AutoCAD, click the Layout1 Tab to switch from Model Space to Paper Space.

Step 2

1. Right Click on the Layout1 Tab.
2. Select Page Setup Manager...

Step 3

On the Page Setup Manager Dialog Click the Modify... button.

Step 4

1. On the Plot dialog box, click on the drop-down list of Printer/Plotter Name to select a type of printer/plotter you need.
2. Choose DWF6 ePlot.pc3 as your printer.

Step 5

Still on Plot dialog box do the following:
1. On Plot Scale, change inches to mm as unit.
2. Then choose 1:1 as scale.
3. Then click Properties button to display the Plotter Configuration Editor Dialog box.

Step 6

1. On Plotter Configuration Editor, Select Custom Paper Sizes.
2. Click Add Button to display Custom Paper Size Wizard.

Step 7

1. Select from scratch.
2. Click Next button.

Step 8

The current paper size is 8.50 X 11.00 inches (Short Bond Paper Size). To create paper size, adjust Width and Height respectively. For example you want to have a Long Bond Paper Size, adjust the Height to 13 Inches. Or you could also create a paper size of 20 X 30 inches.
After creating the desired paper size, click Next button to set the Printable Area.

Step 9

1. You can set the printable area by adjusting Top, Bottom, Left and Right edges of the paper. In this tutorial i set it to zero (0).
2. Then click Next button to set the Paper Size Name.

Step 10

Rename it to Long Size then click Next button to set for File Name.

Step 11

1. Rename it to Long Size DWF6ePlot.
2. Then Click Next button to finish.

Step 12

Click Finish button to exit from the current dialog box.

Step 13

After you click the Finish button it will add the custom paper you just created to the list. Then click the OK button to accept and to exit from the dialog box.

Step 14

Click OK button to accept the changes you made to a printer configuration file.
It save on this path:
C:\Users\melothph\appdata\roaming\autodesk\autocad 2011\r18.1\enu\plotters\DWF6 ePlot.pc3

1. On the Paper Size, click on the drop-down menu to select the custom paper you just created.
2. Then select Long Size.

If you notice the Scale Unit has been reverted to Inches since this is the default unit used by AutoCAD. Just set it again to mm.
See to it that the Drawing orientation should be in Landscape.
Then click Ok button to accept.

Step 15

Click Close button to exit from Page Setup Manager.

When finish, your layout should look like on the above image, you can now layout your Title Block or Title Panel.

How to Draw Rubber Template Using AutoCAD 2011

In this tutorial we will learn how to draw a Rubber Template in AutoCAD. This tutorial was made using AutoCAD 2011 but still you can do this also using the previous release of AutoCAD.

Step 1: Setting the Drawing Units

Start with a new drawing, then set the drawing units in millimeter.
1. Click "Format" on the menu bar.
2. Select "Units"

Step 2

On the Drawing Units dialog box:
1. On Precision: Set on 0 = this will set to whole number, since we are using millimeter, we don't need decimal places here.
2. On Insertion Scale: Set to Millimeters
3. Click "OK" button

Step 3

On the Draw Toolbar select Rectangle Icon to invoke the rectangle command. For the command line use REC or RECTANGLE
Draw the rectangle with the dimension of 100 units X and 160 units Y.
1. For the first corner of the rectangle, "Pick any point in the working area".
2. For the other corner of the rectangle, issue the coordinate @100,160 then press enter key
On the Command Line:
Command: _rectang
Specify first corner point or [Chamfer/Elevation/Fillet/Thickness/Width]: pick a point
Specify other corner point or [Area/Dimensions/Rotation]: @100,160 enter

Step 4

We will edit the rectangle to create a round corner on the bottom part of the object and to create a semi-circle at the top.
1. Click Fillet icon on the Modify Toolbar or type "F" on the command line.
1. 1 Then set the radius by typing "R" on the command line.
1. 2 Type 20 units as radius
2. Select one corner of the object.
3. Then select on the other corner of the object. Refer to the illustration above.
Then repeat step 2 and 3 on the other side of the object.

After applying a fillet on both corners your object should be the same as above

Step 5

Now we add a semi-circle at the top of the object using the same process, the "Fillet" command. But this time we set the Radius to 50.
Select the one side of the object and the on the top of the object as your second selection.
Repeat the same procedure on the other side until you come up with same object as shown below:

Step 6

In this step, we will create the inner part of the object using the "OFFSET" Command.
1. Click Offset icon on the Modify Toolbar. Set Offset distance to 20 units.
2. Select the object and click the inner portion of the object.

Your object should be the same as in below:

Step 7

Explode the inner part of the Rubber Template so that we can move the bottom part of it around 20 units up.
1. Click Explode Icon on Modify Toolbar.
2. Select the Inner Part of the Object and press Enter key.

Step 8

We have to move the line we select 20 units upward to create a 40 units offset distance from the bottom part of our object.
1. Select Move Tool on Modify Toolbar.
2. Select Line and press enter key.
3. Select the base point.
4. Type the offset distance using the coordinate @0,20 and press enter key

Step 9

Trim the two vertical lines using the "TRIM" Command.
1. Click the Trim Icon on Modify Toolbar.
2. Select the horizontal line as your cutting line and press enter.
3. Select the two vertical lines to trim.

Step 10

In this step lets add a round corner to the inner part of the object with radius of 10. This process is the same with Step 4. Your drawing should be similar on the above.

Step 10: Adding Two Holes

Now for the last part, we will add two holes using "Circle" Command or "C"
1. Click on the Circle Icon on the Draw Tool Bar or on the Command Line, Type Circle or C.
2. Click "Snap to Center" Icon on the Object Snap Toolbar.
3. On the arc at the bottom part of the object. Click on the circle button to snap to the center and type 6 for the radius then press enter.

Then we will duplicate the hole to the right using the "Copy" Command.
1. Click "Copy" Icon on the Modify Toolbar.
2. Select the circle you've previously created.
3. Select the center of the circle as your base point.
4. Then move your crosshair to the right then using the object snap option, snap to center of the next arc at the right.
Your drawing is finished. Saved your drawing and named: "Rubber Template".
