Maniac Mansion: Day of the Tentacle is another great adventure game from Lucasarts. It was originally released in 1993, during the golden era of graphics adventure games. Day of the Tentacle is the sequel to Maniac Mansion, and is set on 5 years after Maniac Mansion.

The premise of Day of the Tentacle itself is interesting enough to keep us going. The three main characters, Bernard Bernoulli, Laverne and Hoagie, are called by Green Tantacle, to help Dr. Fred Edison using a time machine to prevent Purple Tentacle from taking over the world.

Purple Tentacle is the friend of Green Tentacle, who become mad after ingesting some toxic waste. The toxic waste made Purple Tentacle acquires power and intelligence, and is on its way for global domination.

Dr. Fred decided to send the team one day earlier to prevent Purple Tentacle from taking the toxic waste using his time machines. But something happen during the time travel, which send Bernard back to the current time, while Hoagie is sent to 200 years in the past and Laverne is sent to 200 years in the future.

The interesting part in the game is, we have to guide them to solve puzzle together in three different time. History play a significant role in Day of the Tentacle. What we did in the past will change things in the future. And we need to use this effect to help them solve puzzles.

In Day of the Tentacle, we can meet several several figures from colonial America, like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Hancock and Betsy Ross. Some of the puzzles involve these characters. For example, in one sequence, Hoagie must coax Washington into chopping down a kumquat tree, a real fun one.

In conclusion, Day of the Tentacle is very very interesting adventure game. The graphics style in very unique. The backgrounds are drawn in a weird proportion, but they just look nice. The voice acting is superb, as well as the storyline. The puzzles are quite hard to solve, slightly harder than Monkey Island in my opinion.

Sam & Max Hit the Road is a graphic adventure computer game released by LucasArts in 1993. The game is based on the comic characters of Sam and Max, a dog and a rabbit. The characters, created by Steve Purcell, originally debuted in a 1987 comic book series. Sam and Max Hit the Road is one of the best adventure game from Lucasarts. Its humor, voice acting, graphics, music and gameplay are just superb!

As with other adventure games by Lucasarts in the same time, Sam & Max Hit the Road uses the user-friendly point-and-click system. As usual, there is an inventory system to keep the things we collect for later uses.As with other LucasArts games, we will not die in Sam & Max Hit the Road.

When the game start, Sam and Max receive a telephone call from an unseen and unheard Commissioner, who tells them to go to a nearby carnival. At the carnival, they are told by the owners that their star attraction, a frozen bigfoot called Bruno, has been set free and fled taking their second attraction, Trixie the Giraffe-Necked Girl. Sam and Max set off to find Bruno and Trixie and bring them back. As the duo investigate the carnival, they learn that Bruno and Trixie are in love and that Trixie freed Bruno. Sam & Max leave the carnival to pursue leads at various tourist traps throughout the country, such as The World's Largest Ball of Twine, a vortex controlled by giant subterranean magnets and bungee jumping facilities at Mount Rushmore.

The pair learn that two other bigfoots used as tourist attractions in other parts of the country have been freed by Bruno, and that Bruno has been captured by Liverpudlian country western singer Conroy Bumpus, a cruel animal abuser who wishes to use Bruno in his performances. Sam and Max travel to Bumpus' home and rescue Bruno and Trixie, but Bruno then departs with Trixie to join a bigfoot gathering at an inn in Nevada.

Following them, Sam and Max are forced to disguise themselves as a bigfoot to enter the party. Eventually the party is gatecrashed by Conroy Bumpus and his henchman Lee Harvey, who hope to capture the bigfoots. However, Sam manages to fool Bumpus and Harvey into donning their bigfoot disguise, and Max locks them in the inn's kitchen freezer.

Chief Vanuatu, leader of the bigfoots, in recognition of the pair's actions, makes the Freelance Police members of the bigfoot tribe and tells them of a spell that will make the world safe for bigfoots again, preventing their capture by humans. However, the chief requires help deciphering the spell's four ingredients, and asks for Sam and Max's help. Eventually, they discover that the ingredients are a vegetable resembling John Muir, hair restoration tonic, the tooth of a dinosaur and a vortex contained within a snow globe. Combined with a live bigfoot sacrifice—which Max substitutes for frozen bigfoot-clad Bumpus and Harvey—the ingredients cause large trees to spring into existence, destroying towns and cities and covering the bulk of the west United States in forest.

Content that their work is done, Sam and Max take the frozen ice block containing Bumpus and Harvey to the carnival. Believing that Bruno has been returned to them, the owners give a large reward of skee ball tickets to the Freelance Police, who then spend the end credits shooting targets at a carnival stall with real firearms.

In conclusion, Sam & Max Hit the Road is an adventure game that you cannot miss.

Skunny Download and Review

Skunny was developed by Magic Touch Production in 1995. It is a side scrolling platform game that is pretty similar to popular the Sonic the Hedgehog and Jazz Rabbit.

The game start when Skunny, in his recent adventure, he uncovered an ancient map showing the location of incredible treasures scattered throughout remote parts of the world. We will guide Skunny through areas filled with monsters and obstacles to gather treasures.

Like Jazz Rabbit, Skunny offer a good 256-color VGA graphics and digitized sound. The game play is fast, but obviously the game engine is not as good as Jazz Rabbit, as we can notice some slight jerk when moving around.

Game play wise, Skunny is as good as Sonic and Jazz Rabbit. We can run pretty fast, and the best is when we jump into the barrels that will throw Skunny from place to place.

The monsters and obstacles in Skunny is pretty simple to overcome compared to other platform games. As we can move pretty free in a level, finding the way to the next level is quite troublesome.

Romance of the Three Kingdom III: Dragon of Destiny was released in 1992 by Koei. It is the third installment of the long running turn-based strategy game Romance of the Three Kingdom series.

Romance of the Three Kingdom III follows the same formula of the previous installments. We start by choosing a scenario and the leader that we want to play. Of course, all the famous leaders are there, like Liu Bei, Cao Cao and Sun Quan.

Compared to Romance of the Three Kingdom 2, the graphics has been hugely upgraded. The world map is no longer shown in top down colored territory view. Instead, the map is shown in a more realistic map with rectangle represent the cities while lines represent roads that connect the cities.

It is a bit confusing at the beginning, but we will get used to it after we play the game for a short while. There is still an option for us to view the territories is color mode, but it is only meant for viewing, we cannot play using this view.

As Romance of the Three Kingdom III uses 640x480 16-color VGA mode instead of 16-color EGA mode, the graphics improvement is obvious. Although Koei is famous for bringing 16-color graphics to life, but somehow the graphics of ROTK III is not as good as their other games like Genghis Khan II.

The battle system of ROTK III is also quite different from ROTK II. The battle mode is now shown in 3D isometric view, rather than the 2D view of ROTK II.

Romance of the Three Kingdom III is not a simple game. You must invest time to learn all aspects of the game before you can appreciate the depth of the game. I've included the manual in the download, hope it might help in your conquest.

Dizzy: Prince of the Yolkfolk is a platform game published by Codemasters in 1991. It was the sixth game in the Dizzy adventure series.

In Prince of the Yolkfolk, Rockwart the Troll has cast a spell on Daisy, leaving her asleep for 100 years. Dizzy need to start off his adventure again to rescue Daisy.

We start the game trapped underground, and find our ways to find Daisy in a castle. There are stars to collect along the way, as well as food to replenish energy lost in contact with the many hazards. Succeed and Dizzy and Daisy will ride off into the sunset together.

Prince of the Yolkfolk is not a straight forward game. Often we need to collect the right items and put them on the right place to solve some puzzles to continue.

Air Strike USA was developed by Digital Integration and released by Spotlight Software in 1990. It is a fast-paced arcade style simulation game.

In Air Stirke USA, we will fly the ATF (Advanced Tactical Fighter) on various missions around the world.

Missions include destroying enemy submarines, radars, aircrafts, bases etc. In the game, instead of viewing the cockpit, we will watch our ATF from behind with an very simplified instrument panel at the bottom of the screen.

Overall, Air Strike USA is a flight simulator that don't need too much thinking to play. If you like arcade and shoot'em up, this is a game for you.

Fantastic Dizzy (a.k.a. The Fantastic Adventures of Dizzy) is a platform game released by Codemasters in 1991. The game was awarded the 'NES Adventure Game of the Year 1991' by Game Players Magazine and given the coveted 'Parents Choice Award'.

The story of Fantastic Dizzy happens when his girlfriend Daisy has been captured by the evil wizard Zaks. Dizzy has to leave his Yolkfolk's treehouse and start his adventure in getting back his girlfriend.

Fantastic Dizzy follows the same pattern of other platform games like Mario Bros and Jazz Rabbit, where we need to go through a few levels, collecting items, avoiding being killed by monsters and reach the next level.

Technically, the graphics and music of Fantastic Dizzy is quite good. The multi-layer backdrop with day and night scene is quite unique too. The sales of 125,000 copies should give us some indication of its reception.

Action Fighter is an overhead vehicular shoot'em up released by Sega in 1986. It mimics the style of other games such as Spy Hunter and Traverse USA.

In Action Fighter, we begin the game riding a superbike. In subsequent levels a sports car, a jetski, a helicopter and even a Formula 1 racing car can all be driven.

All of the vehicles are fully armed to deal with enemy vehicles and gun emplacements intent on stopping the player's progress.

Action Fighter is quite hard to play thought. The key combination is weird. Instead of using arrow keys, we need to use Z, X, O and K to move around.

Abrams Battle Tank is a tank simulationgame developed by Dynamix and published by Electronic Arts in 1988.

Abrams Battle Tank is a 3D vehicle simulation of the M1 Abrams tank, one of the first on the market.

Although the simulation depicts the four crew positions, gameplay is not really realistic. The missions are arcade game-like with a fixed sequence of actions to perform.

The graphics were quite good for their time, but reviews are mixed, with many players enjoying the "fun factor" introduced by the lack of realism, and others decrying it for the same reason.

Unlike other simulation game, Abrams Battle Tank is pretty easy to control. There are not much functions for us to play, it is more like a seek and destroy arcade game.

Aaargh! is an action game developed by Arcadia System and released in 1988. It was inspired by the arcade game Rampage, which was quite popular during that time.

In Aaargh!, we control a giant monster, either an Ogre or a Lizard, with the goal of crushing and destroying everything in its path, across different lands and periods of history.

Our goal is to find five Roc's eggs hidden among the destroyed scenery. Once an egg was uncovered, the two monsters would fight for possession of the egg in a one-on-one battle.

When five eggs were found, the monsters made their way to the volcano, working their way around the lava flows to reach the top and claim the Golden Egg for the ultimate victory.

4x4 Off-Road Racing was published by Epyx in 1988. It is a racing game featuring 4x4 trucks and off-road racing.

As with other racing game, there are various options for us to upgrade our vehicle. There are four choices of vehicle on offer, each of which has its own weight/top-speed/build strength and so on, and thus is suited to different circuits. You can also buy upgrades and repairs, including carrying some spares.

There are four completely different types of course, each taking place on a different surface - Mud, Ice, Desert and Mountains. Each of these is littered with hazards, which can either be painstakingly avoided, or driven through. Driving through hazard can result in some funny results, like doing a 360% on the air.

After going through too many hazards, our car will break down and need to stop aside to do the repair. If we forget to carry the necessary spare parts, then we lose the race.

4D Sports Boxing is a boxing simulation game developed by Distinctive Software, Inc. (DSI). It was published by Mindscape in 1991.

4D Sports Boxing do have some first in the computer gaming world, including motion capture animation and 3D graphics. Therefore we can see that the action is very smooth and very real. The game is one of earliest, and possibly first, examples of a 3D head-to-head fighting game.

Though, with the limited computing power at that time, the game uses only polygon-based rendering. The name of the boxers resembles closely with those real-life boxers, like Mike Tyson.

All opponent boxers have different fighting styles — some prefer to attack, some to counter-attack. Some have great punching power, some have amazing speed. The Champ has nearly perfect attributes. During the game, we can choose which attributes to improve in: speed, power or stamina. While fighting, different tactics and strategies can be used, like all-out attacks, counter attacks, dodging, etc. Sometimes fights end in a unanimous decision, even 15 round fights. Draws and disqualifications are also possibilities.

3-Demon was published by John D. Price and PC Research Inc in 1983. It is basically a Pac-Man game, but presented in a 3D way.

It is quite a major deed for the developer as it uses only the CGA graphics to create a believeable 3D maze.

Like Pac-Man, our objective is to collect all the dots on the ground while avoiding to be eaten by the ghosts wondering around.

There are power-ups for us to pick up too. After picking up the power-up, we can eat the ghosts instead.

Sharkey's 3D Pool was released by Microplay Software in 1989. This is one of the earliest pool game that offer the 3D view of the table.

The pace, spin and angle of each shot can be set up precisely before playing it. Both 8-ball and 9-ball games are included.

We can play the game in three mode. The first is Tournament, the second is Compete and the third is Trick Shot.

In Tournament, we can create a new player to join or select from the existing player. In the Trick-shot mode, we can learn how to make the best shot with different settings.

One on One: Jordan vs Bird was released by Electronics Arts in 1988. By the name of the title, it is very clear that it is a basketball simulation game.

In One on One, we can play either Michael Jordan or Larry Bird. Both have their own strength, but of course I prefer Jordan more.

The game is pretty simple, it is a One on One game. No other players to mess around, just Jordan and Bird.

And because it is a simple game, we will quickly feel boring on it. If not of the star power, I wonder one would actually bought it.

Redneck Rampage Download and Review

Redneck Rampage is a first-person shooter game designed by Xatrix Entertainment and published by Interplay in 1997. This game features some songs by Mojo Nixon, Reverend Horton Heat, Beat Farmers and other Psychobilly artists.

The plot revolves around two brothers, Leonard and Bubba, fighting through the fictional town of Hickston, to rescue their prized pig Bessie and thwart an alien invasion.

The brothers battle through such locales as a meat packing plant and a trailer park, and battle evil clones of their neighbors with weapons ranging from the traditional shotgun, to a gun that fires circular sawblades, to a crossbow that fires bolts with dynamite strapped to them.

Other than Leonard & Bubba, there are several types of alien enemies wielding various types of weapons. The enemies are sheriff, skinny old coot and the alien saucers. Boss enemies include Assface, the alien vixen, and the alien hulk.

One of the funny part of the game is that almost all animals are hostile. The animals that appear include pigs, dogs, mosquitos, cows and chickens, although the latter two can't directly harm us.

Like most first-person-shooters, there are a variety of ways for us to regenerate health. These power-ups consisted of the allegedly redneck related moon pies, pork rinds, beer and liquor. A small supply of each could be carried for future use. Each of these power-ups had distinct disadvantages: The more food the character ate, the more flatulent he became, making it difficult to sneak up on enemies as the character would move forward and make a distinct fart sound frequently after eating.

When drinking alcohol, the health was restored and as an added benefit the character became somewhat less affected by enemy fire. This only worked to a minor degree, and the more the character drank, the less coordinated they became. This was measured on a 'drunk meter' in the user display. Toward the high end of the meter, after consuming a large amount of alcohol, the character movements would become erratic and the user would have difficulty controlling the character as he moved in directions that did not correspond to the input on the keyboard.

In conclusion, Redneck Rampage is a good first person shooter that will provide us with hours of fun time. If you like Duke Nukem 3D, you shouldn't miss this one.

Asterix & Obelix was released by Infograms Multimedia in 1996. It is a platform action game based on a series of French comic strips written by René Goscinny and illustrated by Albert Uderzo. The series first appeared in French in the magazine Pilote in 1959.

The graphics of Asterix & Obelix is very good. The animation is very fluid, rarely seen in a 2D platform game. As the game is based on a famous comic, the character designs are both very stylist and attractive. The background is uniquely drawn, and we don't see much repitition on them.

The story of Asterix & Obelix begin in the year 50 BC. Gaul is entirely occupied by the Romans. One small village of indomitable gauls still holds out against the invaders. To keep them prisoner, Caesar has had an immense palisade build around the village.

The heroes, Asterix and Obelix decide to prove to Caesar that they can go wherever they please. They will travel the Roman empire and bring souvenir back from every country they cross.

The gameplay of Asterix & Obelix resembles closely with other platform game like Jazz Rabbit and The Lion King, where we need to beat the enemies and collect various bonuses during the game.

The unique part of Asterix & Obelix is it allow two players to play on the same time with using only keyboard. Meaning that we don't need a joystick to play it together with our brother or friend.

Green Beret (a.k.a. Rush'n Attack) Download and Review

Green Beret (a.k.a. Rush'n Attack) is a platform arcade game released by Konami in 1985. Green Beret is remembered for its Cold War setting and its reliance on the player using a knife to dispatch enemies.

We take on the role of a United States special operations soldier infiltrating an enemy military base which, as hinted by the name, resembles a Soviet military complex. Our mission is to save several POW's from being executed by firing squad.

There are four stages: Marshalling Area, Harbour, Air Base and Siberian Camp. The omnipresent knife can be supplemented with captured arms. By killing key persons, we can obtain three-shot flamethrowers in stage 1, four-shot RPGs in stage 2, threepacks of hand grenades in stage 3 and one of each in stage 4.

At the end of each stage, there are extra challenges: Stage 1 ends with a truckload of karate thugs, stage 2 with a pack of fierce dogs, stage 3 with three shooting autogyros and stage 4 with a skilful multi-shot flamethrower operator.

When the mission is accomplished the four rescued POWs salute and the player is back at stage 1. The player is supposed to run to the right, revealing new territories, but in case of a standstill in 10 minutes, a stealth-like bomber would wipe out the soldier.

Frogger is an arcade game developed by Konami in 1981. It was later licensed for worldwide distribution by Sega and Gremlin. The game is regarded as a classic and was noted for its novel gameplay and theme.

The gameplay of Frogger is very simple. We, as a frog, need to pass the road with many vehicles, pass the river with logs and turtles and reach our home at top of the screen.Every level has their time limit, we must act quickly to finish before the time expires.

In every level, we need to guide five frogs to their home before progress to the next, harder level. In harder level, the vehicle will move faster, and there will be more bugs staying on the logs that prevent us to jump over.

Even though the gameplay of Frogger is pretty simple, but it is actually quite hard to be completed, and that is why it get so addictive.

Blake Stone: Planet Strike is the sequel to the computer game Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold, released by Apogee in 1994.

Following Pyrus Goldfire's escape at the end of Aliens of Gold, British Intelligence initiated a large-scale search to capture him. For many years, no trace of the arch-villain could be found.

In 2149, Dr. Goldfire is spotted in an abandoned training facility near the former STAR Institute. He is building an army stronger than anything witnessed before, in a second attempt to enslave humanity. Blake Stone is once again sent to stop the villain, with a direct order to find and terminate Dr. Goldfire, so that he would never threaten civilization again.

Like the first episode, Planet Strike uses the graphics engine by Id Software. Instead of using the Doom engine, it still use the Wolfenstein engine, which is a bit outdated when it was released in 1994.

Crime Wave Download and Review

Crime Wave was released by Access Software in 1990. It is a side scrolling shoot'em up like Double Dragon and Final Fight. But unlike them, we use guns instead of fist.

The story of Crime Wave started in 1995. A powerful crime syndicate had taken over large areas of the major cities, turning them into vast criminal wasteland. Arson, extortion, drug distribution and murder were running rampant.

When the daughter of the president was kidnapped by the crime syndicate, we had been called into duty to rescue her.

The gameplay of Crime Wave is pretty simple. With our machine gun and rocket launcher, we will fight through a number of places before reaching the final boss.

There are a number of weapon upgrades that we can pick up during the game. The spread shot upgrade is my favorite.

Technically, the 256-color VGA graphics is nice and the PC Speaker Realsound developed by Access is as good as their other games. The comic style cutscenes with full motion video is also quite hilarious to watch.

God of Thunder is published by Software Creations and Impulse Games in 1994. Both companies is no longer in operation, and God of Thunder has become a freeware.

Even though it was published in 1994, the graphics and sound effects are just ok. The focus of the developers were definitely on the gameplay.

God of Thunder is a rare game that combines three genre into one. It is an adventure game, a puzzle game and also a platform game.

The story of God of Thunder is related to Thor. The year is 927 A.D. Odin has summoned his heroic son, Thor, to The Great Hall of Asgard. He is given a mission: to travel to Midgard and to destroy Jormangund.

The only weapon of Thor is an enchanted hammer that will return automatically to his hand after being thrown. The game requires us to put more focus on solving puzzle than combat, and therefore there is no weapon upgrades throughout the game.

If you like to play puzzle game that require faster reflex, God of Thunder should be given a try.

1942 is a vertically scrolling shoot'em up made by Capcom and was released in 1984. It is the first game in the 194x series, followed by 1943: The Battle of Midway.

1942 is set in World War II. The goal of the game is to reach Tokyo and destroy the entire Japanese air fleet. We play a plane dubbed as "Super Ace", and has to shoot down enemy planes.

1942 is a very simple game and is one of the earliest shoot'em up in the market. I remember the first time I saw it was in a shopping centre when I was 6 years old. There was a guy playing the game until the last level with only one credit, really insane.

In 1942, there are only a limited upgrades that we can pick up during the game. To collect pick up, we have to shoot down a series of plane in red color.

Upgrades include increasing the power of our gun from two-shot to a four-shot. In later level, there is upgrade that give us a escort plane sticked to our plane for greater attack range.

1942 is very hard to play. Unlike later installments, we don't have life bar. As soon as we being hit by a bullet or crash with other planes, we will be destroyed immediately.
