Tales From The Crypt - Issues 28-37 (EC Comics - 1952-1953)

Tales from the Crypt is a bi-monthly horror comic anthology series that, together with its horror siblings The Haunt of Fear and The Vault of Horror were published by EC Comics in the early 1950s. Tales from the Crypt hit newsstands with its April/May 1950 issue and ceased publication with its February/March 1955 issue, producing a total of 30 issues. The title was popular, but, in the late 1940s and early 1950s, comic books came under attack from parents, clergymen, schoolteachers, and others who believed the books contributed to illiteracy and juvenile delinquency. In April and June 1954, highly publicized Congressional subcommittee hearings on the effects of comic books upon children left the industry shaken. With the subsequent imposition of a highly restrictive Comics Code, EC Comics publisher William Maxwell Gaines canceled Tales from the Crypt and its two companion titles in September 1954. All three titles have been reprinted at various times since their demise and have been adapted for television and film.

The Blue Lotus (French: Le Lotus bleu), first published in 1936, is one of The Adventures of Tintin, a series of classic comic-strip albums written and illustrated by Hergé featuring young reporter Tintin as a hero. It is a sequel to Cigars of the Pharaoh, with Tintin continuing his struggle against a major gang of drug smugglers. He also becomes involved in the resistance to the Japanese invasion of Manchuria. The Blue Lotus is a pivotal work in Hergé's career, moving away from the stereotype and loosely connected stories and marking a new found commitment to geographical and cultural accuracy.

Tintin and the Lake of Sharks (originally known as Tintin et le Lac aux Requins) is a Tintin animated film, directed by Raymond LeBlanc (1972). It was not written by Hergé, who supervised, but by the Belgian comics creator Greg (Michel Regnier), a friend of Hergé. It was later adapted into a comic book with illustrations made to look like still images from the film.

Jack Kirby (aka "The King of the Comics") was the most influential and respected illustrator and creator of comic books, at least of the super-hero/adventure variety. He was so important that, with that field now in recession, some are saying that when Jack Kirby died, he took the industry with him.

Among the characters that Jack either created or co-created were Captain America, The Fantastic Four, The X-Men, The Incredible Hulk, Boy Commandos, Challengers of the Unknown, The New Gods, Kamandi, Darkseid, Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos, Captain Victory, The Silver Surfer, The Mighty Thor and at least a hundred others.

Powers

Rayne is a Dhampir with many powers. A main power of Rayne's is that she drinks blood.
She can run faster than a normal human and leap over 2 stories high.
Rayne is stronger than a normal human. She can easily pick up a human and can easily dual wield assault rifles.
Rayne has very good vision and other senses. She can see an object in clear detail quite farther than any human could see.

Weaknesses

Water burns Rayne but doesn't kill her immediately like it does true vampires.
Sunlight hurts Rayne considerably but she can survive a little bit of sunlight, unlike a true vampire.

Weapons

Rayne uses her signature dual blades to cut up enemies. Rayne has a wrist mounted harpoon which she shoots at enemies and pulls them in to feed on them. She also uses various types of handguns, rifles, shotguns, etc.,

World War Hulk was a 2007 comic book crossover storyline published by Marvel Comics and starring the Hulk.[1] The series is composed of five main issues titled World War Hulk, with Greg Pak as writer and John Romita, Jr. as penciller, and three other limited series: World War Hulk: Frontline, World War Hulk: Gamma Corps, and World War Hulk: X-Men. It also ran through several extant Marvel comics series.

The plot is the culmination of a series of events that began with the Hulk being tricked into being sent into space by the Illuminati and a life model decoy of Nick Fury, the Hulk's subsequent exile seen in Planet Hulk and his imminent return to Earth to seek revenge on the Illuminati.

Blaming The Illuminati for the explosion of a space vessel they had constructed, leading to the deaths of his wife, his unborn child and millions of inhabitants of the planet Sakaar, the Hulk, stronger than ever due to his rage, as well as the radiation from the warp core explosion, and his allies, the Warbound, come to Earth intent on revenge. First stopping at the moon, the Hulk defeats Illuminatus Black Bolt. The Hulk proceeds to Manhattan, New York City, where he demands the presence of the Illuminati and that the city be evacuated. He travels to the nearby X-Mansion, home of the X-Men, where Illuminatus Professor Xavier, absent from the decision to send the Hulk off-planet, admits he would have agreed to that but not to permanent exile. The Hulk defeats several teams of X-Men,[6] and battles the Juggernaut, but leaves after learning of the mutant population's heavy losses during M-Day. When the Hulk returns to Manhattan, the superhuman-operative team Gamma Corps battles him, but the Hulk convinces them they follow a false cause.

Batman is manipulated by a mysterious foe who uses all of Batman’s Rogue’s Gallery to mess with him mentally. It’s been done before–the Knightfall saga comes to mind. And I’m sure a million times elsewhere. (It seems to me the most fun thing for writers to do to Daredevil and Batman is to find ways to fuck with them mentally as much as possible, using their Rogue’s Gallery).

Anyway, how does it come off? Interesting question. While reading the issues, I felt that the inclusion of both The Joker and Ra’s were pretty much over done and not needed, but as the pieces started to come together, it seemed to hold pretty well. And the art is fantastic.

Herge is in fine form with these three adventure stories for children - without TinTin as the main character. Even then, these books are as good as TinTin’s adventures and every bit as adventurous.

Power Girl (real name Kara Zor-L, also known as Karen Starr) is a DC Comics superheroine, making her first appearance in All Star Comics #58 (January/February 1976).

Power Girl is the Earth-Two counterpart of Supergirl and the first cousin of the Earth-Two Superman. The infant Power Girl's parents enabled her to escape the destruction of Krypton. Although she left the planet at the same time that Superman did, her ship took much longer to reach Earth-Two.

Possessing superhuman strength and the ability to fly, she is a member of the Justice Society of America and the team's first chairwoman. Power Girl sports a bob of blond hair, wears a distinctive white, red, and blue costume, and has an aggressive fighting style. Throughout her early appearances in All Star Comics, Power Girl was frequently at odds with Wildcat, who had a penchant for talking to her as an if she was an ordinary Earthling female (instead of a superpowered Kryptonian), which she found annoying.

The 1985 limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths eliminated Earth-Two and rewrote Power Girl’s origin; she became a granddaughter of the Atlantean sorcerer Arion. However, story events culminating in the 2005-2006 crossover Infinite Crisis restored her status as a refugee from the Krypton of the Earth-Two universe.
