I recently switched my insurance provider and was notified that I did not receive the lowest rate due to my credit provided by Experian. So I decided to get my FREE Experian credit report and after some research, found that I could order the credit report ONLINE.

Almost everybody qualifies for free reports upon insurance renewals as very few people get the very best rates.

Below are the detailed instructions for ordering and what NOT to do.

First I searched online at their website and they stated that you have to order a snail mail report by telephone:

Check Credit Report

…

Qualifying for Discounted or Free Credit Reports

You may be eligible to receive a discounted or free credit report if you meet one of the following conditions:

Your request for credit, insurance, employment or rental housing was denied based on information received from Experian, and you contact us within 60 days of the denial.

“Adverse action” was taken against you based on information in your credit report (for example, your interest rate was raised or your credit limit was decreased). The name of the credit reporting agency that provided your credit report and how to contact the agency for a copy will be provided by the company that declined your credit application or took adverse action.

You reside in a state where laws require credit reporting agencies to provide their residents with a free or discounted report each year even if they are not denied credit.

You certify in writing that you are unemployed and seeking employment or receive public welfare assistance.

You have reason to believe your credit file contains inaccuracies resulting from fraud.

To confirm your eligibility and request your free or discounted copy of your credit report delivered by U.S. mail, please call 1 866 200 6020. If you would like immediate online access to your Experian credit report and score for only $14.95, …

Of course they want people to PAY for the reports instead of waiting weeks for snail mail reports and that’s why they don’t tell you that you CAN get your FREE report online.

I called 1 866 200 6020 and eventually got to a recording, informing me that I could get the FREE report online.

Go to http://www.experian.com/reportaccess/.

* If you have been declined credit, employment or insurance, or experienced adverse action, or if you received a notice that the terms of credit offered to you may be less favorable than the terms offered to consumers who have better credit histories, you may qualify for a free report.

Click on “Get my report now” and you should arrive at a form to complete.

Of course you have to provide your personal info and address, but Experian also tries to trick you into providing your employment info.

Do NOT provide your employment info.

Credit bureaus make MOST of their profits helping creditors and collectors COLLECT.

Of course they want your current employment info!

Since NO personal data is utilized in credit scores, it is best NOT to show any employment information on credit reports unless you are certain that you will NEVER have financial problems.

Since this is the free report, you need to provide the name of the business that ran your credit and the date you were notified, not longer than 60 days ago.

On the next screen they will try to sell you more of their useless services such as credit monitoring. You only need credit monitoring if you’ve been battling collectors and are about to buy a house. You can get new reports with your REPORT NUMBER for about 3 months. And you get a new report number every time you get credit dispute results.

Do NOT buy their Vantage score!

Please read Credit Scoring Basics for more info on FAKE credit scores and why you need the FICO scores if you want to buy a house.

Skip the advertisements and simply order the FREE report.

You will have to answer the SECURITY questions before you receive the report.

Don’t worry if you don’t recognize accounts, addresses, etc. “NONE OF THE ABOVE” is often the correct answer.

I hope this post will help many readers save a few dollars and please donate a few dollars to support this site.

The FAKE TrueCredit credit scores mean nothing.

Please read FICO Credit Scoring BASICS for more info.

Since a client in the middle of a refinance wanted to see what the current reported balances are, I thought she could try the Trans Union-owned TrueCredit. However, the offer she got was for a 7-day trial for only Trans Union reports and below is the link to get a free tri-merged report, but there are a few things you ought to know.

The TrueCredit fraud and deception.

According to Trans Union’s attorneys, the credit reports sold at TrueCredit are NOT “consumer disclosures” as defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) and therefore it is legal to mislead consumers into wasting their hard-earned money.

The TrueCredit credit reports do NOT contain:

all information reported to creditors

all information required to be disclosed to consumers according to the FCRA

TrueCredit reports MAY contain:

DIFFERENT information than what is reported to creditors.

Of course TrueCredit does NOT disclose any of this to consumers as their profits are much more important to them than being honest and complying with the law.

Trans Union has always focused on MARKETING and the FTC sued Trans Union several times for illegally using and selling consumer credit report data to market.

That was prior to 2000, when President Bush took over and directed the FTC to do whatever it takes to ensure that the bankers and credit bureaus maximize profits at the peoples’ expense. Unfortunately, President Obama is as corrupt as any politician and you all know what happened to the promised “change.” The corporations run the planet.

Do NOT click on the countless TrueCredit ads for debt elimination, credit cards and mortgage rates.

You are subjecting yourself to ID THEFT, as many of these companies will sell all your personal information to the highest bidders.

Obviously, the highest bidders are often criminals like Mark Cella and his now defunct debt elimination scam FDRS. Quite likely, your data will be sold to MULTIPLE bidders who then sell your data again if you don’t respond to their shady offers.

So, now that you know what you’re in for, get your free tri-merged report if you need only partial info, such as current balances and an overview of your credit and it’s not important if creditors get some different data.

You do need to provide your CREDIT CARD info to get the free tri-merged report and since you need to cancel within 7 days to avoid getting charged $14.95, order your report (you only get ONE report every 30 days), SAVE it to your hard drive (make sure it saves correctly) and then immediately CANCEL.

How to cancel?

From “Everything you need to know about this offer“:

Of course they make it difficult to cancel so that they can charge the $14.95. During my own most frustrating attempts to cancel I learned that you can NOT cancel online. I just read the FAQ, help page, etc. and found NOTHING on how to cancel.

The terms of any free trial are specific only to the product subject to the free trial. TrueCredit will verify your billing information before processing your order. An authorization will be requested from your billing account to make sure it is valid and in good standing. TrueCredit will not bill your account until the relevant free trial period is completed and you have not cancelled your subscription during such trial period as provided below. If you upgrade to a new monitoring subscription during a free trial, you will lose all benefits to the trial and will be billed immediately for the upgraded service. You may cancel your subscription at any time during the trial period without charge. If you wish to continue your subscription, do nothing and your subscription will automatically continue without interruption. The monthly fee (plus sales tax, if applicable) will be charged at the conclusion of the trial period to the credit card or bank account you designated as your preference or, if you have not designated a preference, the account that was most recently used on the Site and your subscription will continue automatically, billable monthly at the prevailing rate. To cancel your subscription please contact our Customer Service Team. For contact information and hours of service go to https://www.truecredit.com/contact.jsp.

When you become a member entitled to Credit Monitoring, you understand that it is a membership that automatically renews itself every month indefinitely without action by the member on the anniversary day of your initial purchase. The monthly membership fee will be billed to the credit, debit or bank account that you designated as your preference, or if you have not designated a preference, to the account most recently used on the Site. Should the billing fail to authorize, you will be notified via email immediately. The benefits of your membership (including, without limitation, online credit reports and daily monitoring alerts) will be suspended until payment is received provided payment is received within 25 days. If payment is not received within 25 days, any previous alerts you may have received will be purged from your account, and your membership will be canceled. An enrollee whose membership fee has been paid is entitled to all privileges included in the membership until the membership is canceled by the enrolled member or otherwise terminated as described later in this document. Upon cancellation, the member loses access to the areas of the Site designated for members only and loses access to the member’s data and other benefits. This could include any credit data and analyses that have been displayed during the membership. A member may cancel at any time. Should you decide to cancel your subscription a Customer Service representative can arrange for all future renewal fees to be canceled. However, please note that neither full nor pro-rated refunds will be given for the current month. Any free trial is available one time only per customer. Once any free trial has been canceled all subsequent orders will be billable at the prevailing monthly subscription rate.

The benefits of your membership (including, without limitation, online credit reports and credit monitoring alerts) will be suspended until payment is received provided payment is received within 25 days.
Credit Monitoring

Credit Monitoring (including TransUnion Credit Monitoring, 3-Bureau Credit Monitoring, and other credit monitoring products offered on or through this site) is provided by TransUnion Interactive, Inc. Credit Monitoring monitors one or more of your credit files, depending upon the type of Credit Monitoring you purchase, which are separately owned and/or maintained by each of the applicable credit bureaus: TransUnion LLC, Experian, and Equifax. Credit Monitoring monitors the credit file most closely identified with you based on multiple identifying factors such as first, middle and last names, current and former addresses, Social Security number and date of birth. Credit Monitoring may not advise or alert you if an item of identifying information about you (including your name or address or Social Security number) is contained in the applicable credit bureau’s credit file of another person, and will not provide you with any information contained in another individual’s credit file. Credit Monitoring does not monitor, compare or cross-reference your credit file (s) with the credit files(s) of any other person.

Full disclosure of information in your file at a credit reporting agency must be obtained directly from such credit reporting agency. The credit reports provided or requested through our Site are not intended to constitute the disclosure of information by a credit reporting agency as required by the Fair Credit Reporting Act or similar laws.

Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act you are entitled to receive an annual free disclosure of your credit report from each of the national credit reporting agencies. For more information visit the credit report section in the Learning Center, available from most pages of the Site.

You are entitled to receive a free copy of your credit report from a credit reporting agency if:
Otherwise, a consumer reporting agency may impose a reasonable charge for providing you with a copy of your credit report.

The Fair Credit Reporting Act provides that you may dispute inaccurate or incomplete information in your credit report. YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PURCHASE YOUR CREDIT REPORT FROM TRUECREDIT IN ORDER TO DISPUTE INACCURATE OR INCOMPLETE INFORMATION IN YOUR REPORT OR TO RECEIVE A COPY OF YOUR REPORT FROM EQUIFAX, EXPERIAN OR TRANSUNION, THE THREE NATIONAL CREDIT REPORTING AGENCIES, OR FROM ANY OTHER CREDIT REPORTING AGENCY.

It may be the policies of Equifax, Experian and/or TransUnion to provide a complimentary copy of the consumer credit report under circumstances other than those described above. If you wish to contact Equifax, Experian or TransUnion to obtain a copy of your credit report directly from such agency or if you wish to dispute information contained in an Equifax, Experian or TransUnion credit report file, see the contact information and dispute process description contained in the Learning Center or from the inaccuracies tab on your credit report.
TrueCredit may (i) change the terms of this Agreement or the feature of the membership products, or (ii) change the Site, including eliminating or discontinuing any content or feature of the Site, restricting the hours of availability, or limiting the amount of use permitted, by posting notice of such modification on a page of the Site before the modification takes effect.
AGREEMENT TO RESOLVE DISPUTES BY BINDING INDIVIDUAL ARBITRATION

THIS SECTION IS AN AGREEMENT TO ARBITRATE DISPUTES (“ARBITRATION AGREEMENT”) THAT MAY ARISE AS A RESULT OF YOUR TRUECREDIT MEMBERSHIPS, PRODUCTS OR SERVICES OR THE AGREEMENT. READ THIS SECTION CAREFULLY. YOU UNDERSTAND AND AGREE THAT BOTH PARTIES WOULD HAVE HAD A RIGHT TO LITIGATE DISPUTES THROUGH A COURT AND TO HAVE A JUDGE OR JURY DECIDE THEIR CASE, BUT BOTH PARTIES WOULD HAVE HAD A RIGHT TO LITIGATE DISPUTES THROUGH A COURT AND TO HAVE A JUDGE OR JURY DECIDE THEIR CASE, BUT BOTH PARTIES BY ENTERING INTO THIS AGREEMENT CHOOSE TO HAVE ANY DISPUTE RESOLVED THROUGH BINDING INDIVIDUAL ARBITRATION. OTHER RIGHTS THAT YOU WOULD HAVE IF YOU WENT TO COURT MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE OR MAY BE MORE LIMITED IN ARBITRATION, INCLUDING YOUR RIGHT TO APPEAL.

RIGHT TO REJECT ARBITRATION

YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO REJECT THIS ARBITRATION AGREEMENT, BUT YOU MUST EXERCISE THIS RIGHT PROMPTLY. You must notify us in writing within sixty (60) days after the date you click-on to “Accept” the Agreement. You must send your request to: TrueCredit, 100 Cross Street, Suite 202, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401. This request must include your 16-digit account number and a clear statement of your intent, such as “I reject the arbitration clause in the TrueCredit Service Agreement.”

In consideration for our willingness to provide you with access to TrueCredit or any services or products through the Site as set forth in the Agreement, you and we agree as follows:

You agree that any dispute, claim or controversy (“Claim”) between you and TrueCredit or its parent, TransUnion, our agents, contractors, employees, officers or assignees, arising out of or relating in any way to this Agreement, your purchase and use of a TrueCredit product or use of this Site, including, without limitation, tort and contract claims, claims based on any federal, state or local statute, law or regulation and the issue of arbitrability must be resolved exclusively by binding arbitration, except for the validity, scope or enforceability of this Arbitration Agreement. However, we will not demand arbitration pursuant to this Arbitration Agreement in connection with any individual Claim that you properly file and pursue in a small-claims court of your state or municipality, so long as the Claim is pending only in that court.

YOU UNDERSTAND AND AGREE THAT NO CLAIM, DISPUTE OR CONTROVERSY MAY BE CONSOLIDATED WITH A DISPUTE OF ANY OTHER PERSON IN ARBITRATION, OR RESOLVED ON A CLASS-WIDE BASIS BY A CLASS ACTION OR OTHER PROCEEDING AND YOU HEREBY WAIVE YOUR RIGHT TO COMMENCE OR PARTICIPATE IN ANY SUCH COLLECTIVE OR REPRESENTATIVE PROCEEDING. Unless a different procedure is required by applicable law, the arbitration will be conducted before a single arbitrator in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association (“AAA”), including the AAA’s Supplementary Procedures for Consumer-Related Disputes.

A demand for arbitration under this Arbitration Agreement may be made either before or after a lawsuit or other legal proceeding begins. However, any demand for arbitration that is made after a lawsuit or other legal proceeding has begun must be made within 90 days following the service of a complaint, third-party complaint, cross-claim or counterclaim or any answer thereto or any amendment to any of the above.

You understand and agree that before you take a dispute to arbitration under this Agreement, you must first contact our customer account representatives and give us an opportunity to resolve this dispute. Similarly, before TrueCredit takes a dispute to arbitration, we must first attempt to resolve it by contacting you. If the dispute cannot be satisfactorily resolved within sixty days from the date you or TrueCredit is notified by the other of a dispute, either party may then contact the AAA in writing and request arbitration of the dispute. Information about the arbitration process and the AAA’s arbitration rules and its fees are available from the AAA on the Internet at http://www.adr.org.

The cost of any arbitration proceeding shall be divided as follows:
· If you initiate arbitration, you will be responsible for paying one half of the filing fee, or $125.00, whichever is less, when the demand for arbitration is made.
· If we initiate arbitration, we will be responsible for paying all arbitration costs.
· Regardless of who initiates the arbitration, you will not be responsible for any arbitration fess that exceed one half of the filing fee, or $125.00, whichever is less, or the fees that you would have incurred if the Claim had been brought in court.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, if you believe the cost of arbitration may be too burdensome, you may seek a waiver of the filing fee under the applicable arbitration rules. If you seek, but not qualify for such waiver, we will consider a written request from you to advance all or part of the filing fee.

The arbitration will be based only on the written submissions of the parties and the documents submitted to the AAA relating to the dispute, unless either party requests that the arbitration be conducted using the AAA’s telephonic, online, or in-person procedures (additional charges may apply for these procedures). Any arbitration proceeding will take place at a location within the federal judicial district that includes the most recent U.S. Mail address we have on file for you at the time the Claim is filed or at any other mutually acceptable location.

The arbitrator will be required to follow relevant law and applicable judicial precedent to arrive at a decision and shall be empowered to grant whatever relief would be available in court. Where authorized by applicable law, the arbitrator’s award may include attorneys’ fees and other expenses. You understand and agree that you and TrueCredit are entering into this arbitration agreement in connection with a transaction involving interstate commerce. Accordingly, this arbitration agreement and any proceedings hereunder shall be governed by and enforceable under the Federal Arbitration Act (“FAA”), 9 U.S.C. §§1-16.

Any party to the arbitration proceeding may enter judgment upon the arbitration award in any court having jurisdiction over the arbitration award and may have that judgment enforced by any court having jurisdiction over that judgment. If this Arbitration Agreement is held to be invalid or otherwise unenforceable for any reason, it will be severed from the Agreement and the parties agree that exclusive jurisdiction and venue for any claims will be within the federal judicial district that includes the most recent U.S. Mail address we have on file for you at the time the Claim is filed or at any other mutually acceptable location.

BECAUSE YOUR PURCHASE AND USE OF A TRUECREDIT PRODUCT OR USE OF THIS SITE REQUIRES THAT YOU CONSENT TO ARBITRATION OF YOUR CLAIMS OR DISPUTES, YOU WILL NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO PURSUE YOUR CLAIM IN COURT OR BEFORE A JUDGE OR JURY OR TO PARTICIPATE IN A CLASS ACTION OR ANY OTHER COLLECTIVE OR REPRESENTIVE PROCEEDING. OTHER RIGHTS THAT EITHER PARTY WOULD HAVE IF THAT PARTY WENT TO COURT, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION THE RIGHT TO CONDUCT DISCOVERY OR TO APPEAL, MAY BE LIMITED OR UNAVAILABLE IN ARBITRATION.

The arbitrator’s decision shall become final and binding after 30 days unless a party to the arbitration takes an appeal from the decision by making a written request to AAA. The appeal panel, which will consist of three arbitrators, will consider all factual and legal issues anew, will conduct the appeal in the same manner as the initial arbitration, and will make decisions based on the vote of the majority. We will advance any fees and costs required by AAA to commence any appeal. The appeal panel’s decision shall be final and binding.

In the event of a conflict between the applicable arbitration rules and this Arbitration Agreement, this Arbitration Agreement shall govern. To the extent that the class action and collective action waivers contained herein are rendered invalid or unenforceable by applicable law as to any Claims, this Arbitration Agreement shall not apply to such Claims and thus we may elect to proceed exclusively in court. If any other provision of this Arbitration Agreement should be found invalid or unenforceable, such a determination shall not affect the enforceability of the remaining provisions, which shall remain and continue in full force and effect.

Miscellaneous

This Agreement constitutes the entire agreement between the parties hereto pertaining to the subject matter hereof, and any and all written or oral agreements heretofore existing between the parties hereto are null and void.

If any portion of this Agreement is deemed invalid or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining portions will remain valid, enforceable, and carried into effect, to the fullest extent permissible. Any rights not expressly granted herein are reserved.

You represent that you have read this Agreement and TrueCredit’s Privacy Statement, understand their terms, and agree and intend to be legally bound by them. You acknowledge that, in providing you access to and use of the Site and your membership, TrueCredit has relied on your agreement to be bound by the terms of this Agreement.

UPDATE 8/19/11: Try CPPSAVINGS for a 20% discount.

The reports are now $19.95 and what a ripoff it is! They still don’t even include the names of collectors so you can not dispute collections unless you get additional credit reports from the credit bureaus directly.

You only need to review your myFICO credit reports if you are actively working on your credit or you are about to apply for a mortgage.

And they still offer the FREE 10 day trial for the Equifax credit monitoring service with the free report — don’t forget to cancel!

Please post if you find any new working coupon codes.

As always, don’t buy ANY of their other products. They are NOT worth paying for and their “FREE” offers can be VERY DANGEROUS!

ID THEFT ALERT

During the order process myFICO might offer to “match” you with 4 lenders. Their “matching” means SELLING your info for big bucks to the highest bidders.

Do NOT let myFICO or ANYONE else match you with Lenders!

ID theft ALERT!!!

Your information will be SOLD to the highest bidder (the highest bidders are usually CRIMINALS) and your personal identifying and financial information will quite likely be RESOLD and RESOLD again and again.

This is one of THE most likely ways to become an ID theft victim.

ALL these ads you see all over the web with promises of incredibly low interest rates and bailout programs that don’t even exist are placed by LEAD GENERATORS who sell all your info (often your entire credit report) to the highest bidders for about $40 to $100. The LEAD GENERATOR (myFICO, Experian, Trans Union, TrueCredit, Equifax, LowerMyBills.com, LendingTree.com etc. etc. etc.) can actually make a profit of several hundred dollars from EACH sucker who agrees to receive the “free service.”

A client needed a reporting summary and I recommended that he check the ads here and he picked Credit Adapter for the 7 day “FREE” $1 trial.

The $30/month subscription is a giant RIP-OFF.

I recommend this report ONLY for the $1 trial with the immediate cancellation.

Who is Credit Adapter?

The FAQ discloses that they are Adaptive Marketing.

The Privacy Policy lists two IL addresses, but I could not find anything on Credit Adapter or Adaptive Marketing at the Illinois Secretary of State online business listings.

Adaptive Marketing LLC is, as the name suggests, a company specializing in marketing. They sell just about any worthless service you can imagine:

Adaptive Marketing – LLC Site Map

They will sell your info, spam you with offers for useless services and memberships and just like Trans Union’s TrueCredit, they try very hard to get you to sign up for all kinds of crappy credit offers. If you read the fine print, you won’t fall for their deceptive ads. Since few people have the time to read, I’m sure they’re a very profitable outfit.

It is difficult to get the tri-merged credit summary.

After you sign up, you get your user ID. You then have to log in with your ZIP code and they assault you with deceptive credit offers.

Click on “No thank you” until you see Reports in the top menu and then you have to sign up AGAIN to get your tri-merged credit summary:

The INCOMPLETE tri-merged “credit report” is provided by TrueCredit (Trans Union owned.)

Some of the MOST important data such as the Equifax Date of Last Activity, the Experian Date of Status and the Trans Union Date Closed are NOT provided. Also missing are dispute notations, scheduled deletion dates, most credit inquiries and lots of other important data.

Of course that’s a feature of all CONSUMER tri-merged (3-in 1, etc.) “reports”. They should be called credit SUMMARIES as they are NOT credit reports.

MORE Credit Adapter LIES – NO unlimited reports

From the signup page:

All 3 FREE Credit Scores — unlimited online access to all 3 of your Credit Scores — one from each credit bureau (Trans Union, Equifax and Experian). [emphasis added]

From the FAQ:

… Through unlimited access to your 3-in-1 Credit Report and Score, which merges your credit information from all three credit bureaus into one easy-to-read report, you can quickly and easily check to ensure that your private information is accurate and up-to-date. … [emphasis added]

They fail to mention that you have unlimited access to ONE OLD credit report, as disclosed AFTER you sign up (click on the screen shot above) . So don’t expect to get a NEW report unless you’re willing to pay mega bucks or WAIT until you’re eligible for your ONCE A MONTH free report.

The worthless Trans Union “FAKO” credit scores.

The credit scores provided are NOT used by lenders.

Trans Union designed these credit scores to DECEIVE consumers.

These credit scores have nothing to do with the FICO scores, used by MOST lenders and required for most mortgages.

Trans Union also provides DIFFERENT reasons for the low scores than myFICO. They attempt to have consumers ignore problems they could address and to take actions that will LOWER their credit scores.

Most important: They do NOT include disputed accounts:

From the “Additional Information” at the bottom of the page with the scores:

… Also, disputed items are not incorporated in the assessment of your credit score. …

HOWEVER, the FICO scores used by CREDITORS include disputed collections.

Credit bureaus stop at nothing to keep consumers ignorant — the lower the “real” FICO scores, the more profitable consumers are for the credit bureaus and their clients, the bankers and collectors.

Consumers with low scores apply for credit more often because they are turned down (credit report sales to creditors) and those consumers are much more likely to purchase new reports and to pay for credit monitoring. Additionally, low scorers are targeted by subprime lenders who also purchase “leads” from credit bureaus.

It never ceases to amaze me how the credit bureaus excel at deception and misrepresentation and the regulators CONDONE this fraud.

So what is this $1 Credit Adapter report good for?

The Credit Adapter tri-merged report is NOT suitable to improve your credit scores.

You need to review the myFICO reports, score factors and the COMPLETE reports provided by the credit bureaus if you’re serious about your credit.

This tri-merged “report” provides a SUMMARY of your accounts.

I prefer tri-merged summaries for clients who are NOT interested in improving their FICO scores, but need to dispute or settle multiple collections and only need a summary of the accounts. It takes a lot more time to review 3 complete reports (of course the account ORDER is different for each bureau) than to review the summary.

My client has been dealing with a Paragon collection. We needed to see whether they report and to which bureaus. They are only reporting to Trans Union and he should obtain the Trans Union COMPLETE report after Paragon has received his dispute.

We also checked to see whether Citibank still owns his charged off accounts. Since they report the balances and there is no notice of transfer or sale, it is likely that Citi still owns the accounts. The only way to find out for sure is to contact Citi, as they sometimes “forget” to update with the credit bureaus.

So if you need a cheap credit summary, this is one of many tri-merged reports to use as long as you CANCEL before they charge you.

The ID Theft Resolution SCAM

Credit Adapter does not specify what exactly this service is, but only very few people need assistance with resolving ID theft. NONE of these services can prevent ID theft and if they add a fraud alert to your credit report (which you can do yourself and free of charge), you might be DECLINED for credit when you apply.

Anyone with half a brain ought to be able to complete the FTC fraud affidavit and mail it to creditors. NO service can do this FOR you. You may also have to report the ID theft to the police. It’s not a big deal, in some areas they’ll even come to your home or office to write up the report. Again, it’s for YOU to do, not some ID theft service.

The FTC free instructions and the link to the affidavit:

http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2002/02/idtheft.shtm

You have NO liability for charges incurred due to ID theft.

Canceling the service

Do NOT forget to cancel within 7 days or your account will be charged $30.

It’s best to cancel right after you SAVE the report, best in web archive (.mht) format.

You can also cancel by telephone:

… you can call Credit Adapter toll-free at 1-800-492-3042 …

However, I STRONGLY recommend canceling online.

If you call, you are likely to incur future charges and/or they’ll try hard to get you to keep this WORTHLESS service. Nobody needs to pay for these incomplete reports, FAKE credit scores and identity theft protection.

Cancel by email — it’s quick, easy and you get PROOF of cancellation. Of course save the cancellation email.

And you might want to opt out of future marketing:

How do I opt out of receiving future marketing e-mails?

Sign on using your membership ID number, visit our Contact Us page, select “Unsubscribe to future marketing” from the drop-down menu, and email us your request. Please be sure to include your name and membership ID number as well as the email address you would like us to remove from our distribution list.

And next time you need a cheap / free credit summary, simply order from a different company – check the ads here for offers.

I recommended that a client order her free annual Trans Union credit report because we need information NOT on the myFICO report or on tri-mergeds. Trans Union, as so often, declined to provide the free report online.

Next, I recommended paying $10.50 for the Trans Union online report. Again, she got declined. She called and was told that she could not get her report because Trans Union is currently investigating. Unfortunately, she had signed up with a credit repair company and we don’t even know what was disputed.

So as a last resort, I asked her to order the TrueCredit report and while she is a paying subscriber, she also could NOT get her (incomplete) Trans Union report there.

Finally, she ordered the worthless tri-merged report at TrueCredit and she received that. But of course it does not contain the scheduled deletion dates and not even the so important Date Closed.

It is incredible how powerful the credit bureaus have become. Last week I filed my response to the Trans Union / TrueCredit motions to dismiss my claims relating to their refusal to provide credit reports as required by law. I’ll post everything ASAP, been very busy.

There’s no way that I will prevail against these powerful corporations, but at least I can spread the word and alert you all to their FRAUD.

Today I noticed that Experian advertised $1 credit reports and scores for a LIMITED TIME.

View the screen shot of the Experian front page with the TOTALLY FALSE advertisement.

$1 for a credit report sounds like a great deal!

However, it’s just another credit bureau SCAM.

I clicked to order my “$ 1″ report and filled out my personal info:

Screen shot — still looks great!

The next screen revealed the ugly truth:

There is NO $1 credit report, but you’re signing up for a $14.95 MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION — unless you cancel within 7 days.

How hard is it to cancel?

VERY HARD. I’ve had many clients complain that they were put on hold for a long time, they were disconnected, etc.

But that’s not the only scam, there’s MORE:

The reports are actually provided by Experian-owned ConsumerInfo.com. The reports they provide are INCOMPLETE and contain LESS than half the data on the “real” Experian report.

In fact, they don’t even contain the EXPERIAN REPORT NUMBER — required to dispute by telephone and to get FREE reports at its site for 90 days.

Yup, that’s no typo. Once you have a report number, you can get your almost complete Experian disclosure for 90 days at its site. Just click on the link to “Review Report Again” on the bottom of their front page.

The Experian report number is on all investigation results. And you can also get it by PRETENDING to want to dispute online if you actually sign up for this scam.

So if you don’t already have an Experian report number (no older than 90 days) — and you don’t mind going through the hassle of canceling — sign up, get your free report, pretend to want to dispute online, get the “real” Experian report with the report number and then cancel right away.

WARNING:

Ignore the Experian credit scores.

They are NOT the scores most lenders are using — get your FICO scores if you NEED scores.

You can’t get your Experian FICO scores at myFICO.com anymore because they make even less sense than the Trans Union and Equifax scores. The Experian credit reporting data is so flawed by DESIGN and they’d have to completely change their data fields — more on that another time.

Just IGNORE all Experian scores unless you get a copy of your mortgage credit report.

Why is Experian advertising this “limited time” offer?

It might have to do with new FTC regulations regarding these scams. I haven’t read through the 22 pages of small print yet, but noticed extensive discussion of the “free” credit reports and the many consumer complaints. The regulations will be effective 4/2/10 and I hope to soon find the time to go through this document.

Experian v. LifeLock – why do people fall for ID theft insurance scams?

Notably, GOLDMAN SACHS is supposed to have funded this fraud with $25 million.

LifeLock Class Action

LifeLock Consumer Fraud | False Advertising

Is Your Identity REALLY Protected ??

This site has been established to provide a way for those interested in obtaining information about, or participating in, the recent Class Actions that have been filed against LifeLock by Marks & Klein, LLP.

The proposed class action law suits address the deceptive business practices and fraudulent advertising campaign employed by LifeLock through which it has induced nearly one million individuals into subscribing to the identity theft protection services the company claims to provide.

In actuality, however, the services and one million dollar service guarantee offered by LifeLock are not what they seem and do not provide the level of protection that is advertised in its deceptive marketing campaign.

Presently, Marks & Klein, LLP has filed class action lawsuits against LifeLock on behalf of subscribers in New Jersey, Maryland, West Virginia, Florida and California.

If you are a Lifelock subscriber who resides in any of the above states and is interested in participating in an existing class action, or a resident of any of the other United States and would like information about bringing a class action against LifeLock in your state, please fill out this form.

This is not an advertisement.

Of course LifeLock isn’t the ONLY scam and I would NEVER waste my money on ANY ID theft protection service.

The credit reports they provide are INCOMPLETE and practically worthless.

There are many millions of suckers with cash to blow and the CREDIT BUREAUS are taking a huge cut of this EXTREMELY lucrative business.

As always, the FTC is asleep at the wheel.

In fact, they terminated my affiliate account many years ago due to my factual reporting of buggy formulas and scores that simply don’t work as myFICO claims.

MyFICO even ADDED entirely fictitious 120+ day LATE PAYMENTS to Equifax reports and it refused to fix their formulas — they’ll do whatever they can to produce the lowest FICO scores possible so that their “clients”, the creditors, can charge the HIGHEST rates and fees.

Please be aware that the myFICO reports are INCOMPLETE and are missing lots of data, including MOST credit inquiries, creditor addresses and, on the myFICO Equifax, they won’t even provide the collectors’ NAMES. Only the data on the myFICO reports is utilized in FICO scores. That’s why you should NOT dispute data ONLY on the bureau reports if you want higher FICO scores. You’re more likely to get deletion of VALUABLE accounts and you will NOT change FICO scores by correcting data that’s not utilized in their calculations.

Details are at my website CreditLegislation.org, closed for years as the wowBB software stopped working. I hope to soon find the time to repost the updated information here.

Despite all the problems with myFICO credit reports, you NEED them to IMPROVE your FICO scores.

There is NO way for me to make recommendations to clients who need to improve FICO scores without analyzing the FICO SCORE FACTORS. Some free information is at my CreditFactors blog and if you’re serious about your credit and scores, make a $50 donation to Liars and Cheats Exposed and get a free 6-months CreditFactors subscription.

As of right now, the 30% myFICO discount is NOT announced at their website. To receive the 30% discount, go to myFICO and add at the checkout:

Coupon code: myFICOis9

FICO Standard®
now just $11.17

Suze Orman’s FICO Kit Platinum®
was $49.95
now just $34.97

However, the BEST DEAL:

You can get two Equifax myFICO reports FREE if you sign up for the FREE Score Watch TRIAL.

You might want to purchase the Suze Orman Kit for Trans Union and for additional reports by 3/31/10 (you can order the purchased reports later) if you’re actively working on your credit to improve FICO scores. And speaking of Suze Orman, please do NOT follow her horrible advice and do NOT use the fake score simulators.

For more information, please read my 2004 analysis of Suze Orman’s HORRIBLE advice:

The Suze Orman FICO Kit FRAUD.

When I write about deplorable human beings like Suze Orman, I always wonder how they can be so incredibly incompetent and/or corrupt. Could she be so stupid and NOT know that FICO scores are a total fraud? I suppose the myFICO compensation makes up for knowing that she destroys so many lives.

Purchase the myFICO reports at the lowest possible price if you really need to improve your FICO scores, but don’t waste your money just to see what your FICO scores are.

You probably know that you’re entitled to your FREE annual credit reports once a year. You can order your Experian, Equifax and Trans Union reports online:

https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp

IMPORTANT: The time for credit bureaus to investigate DISPUTES is extended to 45 days.

So if you’re facing a deadline and you need corrections quickly, do NOT order the free annual reports.

Prepare to answer their SECURITY questions correctly.

The best way to do this is to already HAVE their credit report.

Often you’ll have to admit or deny whether you have a mortgage or car loan from a certain creditor or they provide a listing with several lenders.

Don’t think that it’ll have to be one of those creditors, check NONE OF THE ABOVE if you don’t recognize the name. BUT, be aware that many banks have been SOLD and even closed accounts are sold and reported by NEW lenders — without any notice to you. And to make it even more difficult, a creditor can report under different names to each credit bureau.

Be prepared to NOT receive the reports due to their inability to verify your identity.

That’s easy to fix if money is no issue: at least 90% of my clients who were declined the free reports had NO problem PURCHASING the credit reports.

TRANS UNION WARNING:

You will be prompted to disclose LOTS of information about your interests (don’t do it!) and you will be bombarded with advertisements for the most deplorable debt settlement and finance companies.

The Trans Union reports are NOT complete. I will elaborate in more detail as I write about my lawsuit against Trans Union and its subsidiary TrueCredit. There is currently no way to get a COMPLETE credit report from Trans Union unless you dispute. The INVESTIGATION RESULTS contain information NOT on the free annual reports.

What is a credit file disclosure or a credit report?

A credit file disclosure, commonly called a credit report, provides you with all of the information in your credit file maintained by a consumer reporting company that could be provided by the consumer reporting company in a consumer report about you to a third party, such as a lender. A credit file disclosure also includes a record of everyone who has received a consumer report about you from the consumer reporting company within a certain period of time (“inquiries”). The credit file disclosure includes certain information that is not included in a consumer report about you to a third party, such as the inquiries of companies for pre-approved offers of credit or insurance and account reviews, and any medical account information which is suppressed for third party users of consumer reports. You are entitled to receive a disclosure copy of your credit file from a consumer reporting company under Federal law and the laws of various states.

Clearly, Trans Union violates the law when it provides reports WITHOUT all inquiries.

Until Bush took office in 2000, the FTC relentlessly sued Trans Union for illegal use of credit data for MARKETING.

I’m not sure when Trans Union added advertisements to the credit reports, but it’s been years and NOTHING has changed under Obama.

One reason I decided to start this blog is to document the extraordinary corruption of our governments and regulators and to DOCUMENT the credit bureaus’ ILLEGAL practices. I’m sick and tired of my clients who need to improve FICO scores having to order 5 (FIVE!!!) credit reports to get “most” data and then having to PAY ME to review all these reports.

Subscribe to this blog for updates with MANY details about this giant credit reporting fraud.
