Goodbye Lullaby is the fourth studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Avril Lavigne. The album was first released on 2 March 2011. Recording sessions began in November 2008, and took place over a period of almost two years, concluding in October 2010. The album's songs contain mainly stripped down instruments, such as the piano and acoustic guitar. It was said to be a return to her older style of music, like those on her first two records. Every song on the album was written by Lavigne, with half of the album being written with co-writers. The album debuted inside the top five in over 15 countries such as the United States and Canada, topping the charts in Japan, Australia, Greece, Taiwan, Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong and Czech Republic. The lead single of the album, "What the Hell", was released on 7 January 2011, and achieved worldwide chart success; reaching the top twenty in the United States and United Kingdom, the top ten in Europe and Australia and the top five in Asia. The following singles, "Smile" and "Wish You Were Here", had moderate chart success worldwide. The album also includes an extended version of the soundtrack single for the 2010 film Alice in Wonderland, titled "Alice". The album sold an estimated 1.3 million copies worldwide in 2011.

Girls' Generation

Girls' Generation (Sonyeo Shidae or So Nyuh Shi Dae) is a nine-member South Korean pop girl group formed by S.M. Entertainment in 2007. They are also referred to as SoShi (소시) or SNSD by their fans, both abbreviated forms of the group's Korean name.

Girls' Generation has released three Korean full albums, three Korean mini-albums, one Japanese full album and various singles. Their 2009 hit single "Gee" holds the record for being the longest running No. 1 song on KBS Music Bank, having held the No. 1 chart ranking for nine consecutive weeks. "Gee" was named song of the decade by the Korean music site, Melon.

The group began a foray into the Japanese music scene in late 2010 under Nayutawave Records, a part of Universal Music, with the Japanese remakes of their 2009 Korean hits "Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)" and "Gee". The group's debut Japanese album, Girls' Generation, is currently the highest selling album in Japan by a Korean group in Oricon history, being certified Triple Platinum by the RIAJ.

Girls’ Generation is one of Asia’s most popular pop groups, with hit songs like Gee, Genie, Oh, Hoot, and The Boys etc. The group is often referred to as Soshi, or SNSD – abbreviations of their Korean name So Nyeo Shi Dae (소녀시대).

SNSD made their official debut in August 2007 with single Into the New World. They released their first (self-titled) full album in November, with its second track Kissing You a hit. SNSD released their first mini-album, Gee, in January 2009, which became a mega hit, with its title track breaking various #1 records on music charts. They released their second mini-album, Tell Me Your Wish in June, which was hugely successful as well.

SNSD continued to excel in 2010 – with their second full length album, Oh! in January; a repackaged album, RunDevilRun, in March; and their third mini-album, Hoot, in October – all were best sellers as expected. The group also made their official Japanese debut in September, with single Genie reaching the #4 spot on Oricon weekly chart.

SNSD released their first original Japanese single, Mr Taxi, in April 2011; followed by their first (self-titled) full-length Japanese album in June which reached the top of Oricon weekly album-sales chart. Evanescence’s third album is self titled for a reason: 15 years after its formation, the multi-platinum band has made the most collaborative, united album of its career. And it rocks.

“Coming back together is such a beautiful and happy thing,” co-founder and lead singer Amy Lee says of making “Evanescence,” the group’s first album since 2006’s “The Open Door.” “We’d bring a song to the whole band and arrange it in a group. That’s something that really stands out against the other records. There’s a tight band at the center of everything, giving it a very tangible energy.”

The cohesion is evident in every note. The album, produced by Nick Raskulinecz (Alice In Chains, Def Tones), packs a wallop with a unified vision that can only come from a group working together as a creative unit.

Led by Lee’s operatic, passionate vocals, Evanescence has sold close to 25 million albums since its 2003 debut, “Fallen.” The project’s premiere single, “Bring Me To Life,” snagged the band a Grammy for best hard rock performance. Other massive hits followed, including “My Immortal,” “Going Under,” and “Call Me When You’re Sober,” establishing Evanescence as worldwide tour headliners.

After a break following the conclusion of the tremendously successful tour behind “The Open Door,” the band— Lee, guitarists Terry Balsamo and Troy McLawhorn, bassist Tim McCord and drummer Will Hunt— came together to write a number of songs for “Evanescence” before heading to Nashville, where, under Raskulinecz’s tutelage, they penned another six songs.

“We were just sitting on a little stage in a circle with Nick standing there air-shredding on a drumstick. He’d say, ‘Stop. After the bridge, why don’t you do a breakdown and then go into an instrumental thing.’ He directed us,” Lee recalls. “It was really good for us to have that outside perspective.”

The group then retreated to Nashville’s Blackbird Studios to record. “Nick got it. He understood what we were going for,” Lee says. “The thing he was going to amp up was the band side, which was what we wanted to focus on.”

“Evanescence” crackles with an urgency that seeps through each of the 12 tracks. Opening slab, the hard-driving “What You Want,” is about Lee’s decision to head back into the fray after the band’s hiatus. “It’s totally about going back to being in Evanescence,” she says. “It’s motivating myself not to be afraid. I’m writing about the chaos of life and that you can’t control all the crazy things that happen to you.”

The stunning video for the single, helmed by award-winning director Meiert Avis from an idea conceived by Lee and her younger sister, Carrie, traces the history of the band combined with gothic imagery of New York. It ends with the group’s members walking into the ocean. “I can’t make a video without some water,” Lee laughs. “It’s either going to rain on me or I’m getting into the water. Here, it represents us moving on into this unknown thing; going into the future.”

The wrenching “Lost In Paradise” opens with Lee’s haunting solo piano before exploding into a sweeping, string-laden tale of torment. “It’s the most intimate song on the album,” Lee says. “This song came out in a moment where I felt lost, I was at war within myself. It’s raw and open.”

“It was Nick’s idea for the band to come in where they do,” Lee says. “I love how big and important it’s become for all of us. It started out as this tiny, raw thing and it’s become one of my favorite songs.”

Heavy, chugging guitars propel “The Other Side,” a story of love that survives whatever tries to destroy it, including death, while the rhythmic, multi-layered “My Heart Is Broken” takes the listener on a journey of escape. “That was inspired by victims of sex trafficking,” Lee reveals. “It’s about trying to find your way out.”

The album closes with a last-minute addition: the dreamy, atmospheric “Swimming Home,” a tune that exposes a side of Evanescence that fans have never seen. “That song is the biggest departure,” Lee says. “It came from a phase when I was making music that was ethereal and programming driven. Thematically, “Swimming” addresses “crossing over into the next life. It’s the bittersweet acceptance.”

The break between “The Open Door” and “Evanescence” provided the band with much-deserved rest, but also some clarity as to how important what they had created meant to them.

“I do have a new perspective and a big part of that for me was being able to step away and knowing for certain that I’m here making this record because I love what I do,” Lee says.

Lee spent her time away from the band with her new husband and learning how to lead a “normal” adult life in her adopted hometown of New York City. “Evanescence is my life’s work. I’ve been working on it since I was a young teenager,” Lee says. “By the time we finishing touring ‘The Open Door,’ I just wanted to nest a little bit... and build a life that didn’t revolve around my being in Evanescence.”

But then the muse came calling and Lee and her bandmates felt an urgent need to express what was building inside of them. “The reason our music is epic and dramatic is because the biggest emotions that I ever feel, the music is the only way to get them out of my heart,” Lee says. “Words alone aren’t enough. It heals my heart to make music.”

Now, Evanescence’s thoughts have turned to returning to the road. “This record is so geared for live shows,” Lee says. “We were thinking about playing live the whole time we were writing it.”

Making the return all the sweeter are the fans. “I can’t describe how great it feels to have their support. I love so much meeting them before and after the show. If feels like they’re growing with us,” says Lee.

Though already superstars, Lee and her bandmates have the enthusiasm of newcomers as they look to a future that is brimming with possibility through “Evanescence.”

“This moment right now between us and the fans, it feels like a celebration, a homecoming, a family reunion,” Lee says. “We’re so happy to be back.”

William Troy McLawhorn (born November 4, 1968) is an American musician who is a guitarist of the bands Evanescence and Dark New Day.

Biography

He was formerly of the bands Seether, doubleDrive and Still Rain. After the demise of his first band, Still Rain, McLawhorn helped form Dark New Day in 1995, although they were inactive for several years. Instead, McLawhorn was the guitarist in doubleDrive from 1996 until December 2003, before re-joining Dark New Day the following year.
Evanescence

In May 2007, McLawhorn was announced as the replacement for Evanescence's former guitarist John LeCompt, and played with the band through its The Open Door album tour, which ended in December 2007. He remained active with Dark New Day while playing with Evanescence. However, McLawhorn eventually left Dark New Day in mid-2008 after joining Seether as a touring guitarist. After the success of the subsequent tour, McLawhorn became the official lead guitarist of Seether.
From then until early March 2011, McLawhorn did various tours with Seether. He took part in recording with the band on projects such as "Seether iTunes Originals," "Rhapsody Originals," and on covers of WHAM!'s "Careless Whisper" and Frank Sinatra's "I've Got You Under my Skin" as well. McLawhorn finished recording with Seether on the album "Holding On To Strings Better Left To Fray." The first single "Country Song" was released in the United States on March 8, 2011 exclusively on iTunes.
On March 8, 2011 it was announced that Troy had left Seether to pursue other interests.

Later that day McLawhorn responded on the official "The Troy McLawhorn Fan Site" on Facebook with the following statement:
"Thanks for all of the support. You guys are great! I really enjoyed playing and creating music with the guys and I wish that I didn't have to leave especially now that the album that we worked so hard on is finally coming out. It was a hard decision and I wish them the best. I hope that I will see all of you when I find my next project."

On April 8, 2011, Seether frontman Shaun Morgan took to his Twitter account to vent his frustrations regarding Troy's still unconfirmed new gig.[4] The next day Troy took to his official Facebook page to release the following statement to explain his departure:
"You know...I have been laying low because I didn't want my departure from Seether to be any more dramatic than it has to be but I can't sit by while people come to my site and trash me. There are a lot of people who have been very supportive and I appreciate that so much. As for the haters...I can understand that people are passionate about their bands and the music. I am, too. That's why even when I was barely able to survive financially in this business I never quit because I genuinely love to play music with my friends. My leaving Seether was not about money at all. Ask yourselves this, why would I leave the band after we had just finished making an awesome record? Why? I was as excited as anyone to get out there and support it. I am losing money by leaving the band. You have to know that it was a very personal invasion of trust that led me to make my decision to leave. Anyone who knows me knows that I am not a vindictive person and I am just trying to find a place that I can be long term and play music with people that I can trust."
On June 12, 2011, Amy Lee of Evanescence announced on her Twitter account that Troy had officially rejoined the band for their upcoming tour and new album due out October 11, 2011.

Biography

William Martin "Will" Hunt (born September 5, 1971) is an American musician who has served as drummer of the band Evanescence, Dark New Day, Skrape, ELI, Static-X and Black Label Society, just to name a few. Hunt was in Skrape until 2004 and Black Label Society until 2011. Both were signed to major record labels. In 2008, Hunt filled in for Tommy Lee with the Crue tour when Lee suffered from tendonitis. Hunt has also played live with Slaughter, Vince Neil, and many more. During 2007, Hunt recorded with bloodsimple and Static-X. In May 2007, Hunt was named as a replacement for the departed Rocky Gray of Evanescence, and remained with the group through their The Open Door album tour, which ended in December 2007. He remained active with Dark New Day while playing with Evanescence. Hunt performed with Evanescence in their 2009 one-off show at the Maquinaria Festival in São Paulo, Brazil.

Hunt joined Tommy Lee's rap metal side-project Methods of Mayhem as the drummer for their 2010 A Public Disservice Announcement album and tour. Though he was intended to appear with the band on tour promoting the album, he was replaced with Sevendust drummer Morgan Rose.

It was announced in 2010 that Hunt would be the new drummer for Crossfade's third album, We All Bleed. Originally thought to be a permanent member, it was confirmed Hunt was only temporary with Crossfade's recent announcement of Mark Castillo joining on drums.

On Friday, December 10, Hunt was named as the new Drummer for Eye Empire. He replaced original Empire drummer Garrett Whitlock, while Morgan Rose of Sevendust played drums on Eye Empire's debut record, Moment of Impact (which also features guest vocals by fellow Sevendust member Lajon Witherspoon).
On February 2011, Hunt rejoined Evanescence when the band started pre-production of their third album. He is now a full-time member of the band.
In May 2011, it was announced that Hunt would be taking over drumming duties for the current scheduled Staind tour dates, taking place of the original drummer, Jon Wysocki.

Biography

Early projects and Cold
After a quick run with the early line-up of Limp Bizkit in 1995, Terry joined up with fellow Jacksonville rockers Scooter Ward, Sam McCandless, Jeremy Marshall and Kelly Hayes, of the band Cold in 1999.
Terry remained with Cold writing and recording with them for their albums 13 Ways to Bleed on Stage (2000) and Year of the Spider (2003). Terry also appeared alongside Staind, in Staind's MTV Unplugged performance in 2001. Near the end of his stint with Cold, the band joined Evanescence as an opening act on the 2003 Nintendo Fusion Tour.
Balsamo briefly re-joined Cold for their early 2009 reunion tour, but has not played with the band since nor contributed to their 2011 comeback album.

Evanescence
When Evanescence's guitarist Ben Moody left the band during their European tour, Balsamo filled in for Moody on stage. When Cold's future suddenly came into question, Balsamo jumped ship, signing on for good with Evanescence. He has also become a songwriter with lead singer and songwriter of Evanescence, Amy Lee.
Balsamo can be seen and heard most prominently in Evanescence's live album, Anywhere but Home (2004) and on the band's studio album The Open Door (2006). He has become Amy Lee's main collaborator for Evanescence and co-wrote most of Evanescence's 2nd album The Open Door including the album's first single, "Call Me When You're Sober", and third single "Sweet Sacrifice". He was also recording Evanescence's self titled third album that was released in October 2011.

Biography

Amy Lee was born to parents John Lee, a disc jockey and TV personality, and Sara Cargill. She has a brother named Robby and two sisters, Carrie and Lori. The song "Hello" from Fallen has been reported to have been written for her late sister, as well as the song "Like You" from The Open Door. Lee took classical piano lessons for nine years. Her family moved to many places, including Florida and Illinois, and eventually settled in Little Rock, Arkansas, where Evanescence started. She briefly attended Middle Tennessee State University to study music theory and composition and later dropped out to focus on Evanescence.

In an interview on AOL Music, Lee said that the first songs she remembered writing were called "Eternity of the Remorse" and "A Single Tear". The first was written when she was eleven years old and wanted to become a classical composer, and the second was for an assignment when she was in the eighth grade.
