Aerobic Resperation Experiment Write Up Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Abstract: The aim of the investigation was to demonstrate aerobic respiration using germinating beans seeds. The hypothesis was that the more bean seeds, the more respiration that would occur, also, if the germinating bean seeds were dried out before the experiment, they would not respire at all. The beans seeds were placed in an air tight flask with a tube travelling from the flask with the seeds to another flask full of water. The distance the water travelled up the tube was measured and recorded in a table and a graph. The results supported the hypothesis that the more seeds involved, the more respiration that would take place with a few exceptions. However, the second half of the hypothesis, that the dried germinating seeds would not respire, was unsupported by the results.
Animal experimentation is a necessary evil Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Animal Cruelty Essay. Animal experimentation is the malicious abuse and ill treatment of unfortunate helpless animals. However some may perceive the need for animal experimentation as a vital necessity for our society to continue the production of essential human requirements. The issue of animal experimentation has over the years become of greater importance as many individuals have grown to be more caring and compassionate towards animals. While considering the area of study Animal Cruelty, the informative piece entitled "Animal experimentation", the imaginative piece "Flowers for Algernon", the advertisement, "Lab animals have rights", the scientific report "Darling you smell wonderfully different", and the poem, "Foxes among the land" are all valuable texts to take into account. Through the implementation of several techniques and stylistic devices, all composers have effectively presented debatable issues and ideas to suggest that animal experimentation may be a necessary evi

A falling America - Peter G. Peterson in his book 'Running on Empty' Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Peter G. Peterson, in his book "Running on Empty" offers a refreshing, non-partisan look at political parties in the U.S.A. What is interesting to me is that Peterson is a Republican and they tend to support their party very intensely, but Peterson does not make his party (the Republican Party) look good and the Democratic Party look bad, he just states what he believes to be the truth. Peterson claims "both parties are bankrupting America and our future." The fluctuation of taxes is leading America into terrible economic and financial destruction. In chapter one, Peterson explains why and how each party is bankrupting the nation and I actually understand and agree with what he has to say about both parties. It seems like the Republicans are strongly against the increasing of taxes, and reducing government revenues while the Democrats are into benefits, benefits, benefits in exchange for the political support of the people, and they do all of this with no thought to the cost and no

Rhetorical strategies used for Martin Luther Kings Letter from Birmingham Jail Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The rhetorical strategies Martin Luther King uses in his Letter from Birmingham Jail, are used to emphasize the need for justice. More importantly, paragraphs thirteen and fourteen, describe the importance in urgency of changing segregation laws. King uses rhetorical strategies such as similes, symbolism, repetition, and personification to convey his message. King uses similes various times throughout the passage, but most specifically when he's emphasizing that "justice too long delayed is justice denied". He illustrates this when he's comparing the political freedom Africa and Asia are gaining to black people being able to simply sit at a lunch counter. King uses phrases such as "Asia and Africa are moving with jet-like speed" and "we still creep at horse-and-buggy like pace". He uses symbolism when saying "the cup of endurance runs over", and "plunged into the abyss of despair". By this King is trying to emphasize that there is a point when the black people collectively will

Surviving a Shittty First Draft Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Surviving a "Shittty First Draft"Do we all really know what we are doing when writing a simple rough draft? According to "Shitty First Drafts" from Anne Lamott's Bird by Bird (NY: Pantheon, 1994) pp.21-26, "No good writers know what they are really doing until they've done it. " Lamott explains why the first rough draft is so important to the process of writing. She gives attest to the feelings of uncertainty and skepticism, feelings that are very familiar to most of us when it comes to writing. The rough draft isn't meant to be perfect. It is the foundation of a paper; a way to shape ideas out without limitations. The article has a lot of evidence of the authors own expert testimony and opinions that makes the reader feel assured that what she is saying has to be true. She also uses similar techniques like popularity to make the reader feel the same way. Some things that didn't work in the author's writings were her stories about her "famous" writer friends that are not pr

evaluation of war workshop Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

War workshop: evaluation (Ao4)The main aim of the war workshop was to use the elements and medium of drama to help us understand and realise how people were actually effected by war and how they thought and felt think that , as a group we did this impeccably also we worked well with each other and almost fed of one another's ideas and create a very moving, intelligent piece of drama .The effects we used such as different levels, to show emotional status or hierarchy ,body language and facial expression ,to portray the character more intensely then with words ,these are just some o the ways we harnessed the medium of drama to improve it and make it as effective and powerful as possible. There were many peoples work that was superb but a few in particular stood out .one of these was a monologue by Jennifer, her character was that of a young boy sent away to the army, her voice sounded very young and innocent and the lines were very simple but quite piercing in their words 'every gir

Conscience Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The setting sun shed a melancholic effulgence on the ruined building in front of him. Next to it, the vast stretch of blue ocean seemed to stretch out for miles, endlessly, as a thousand comiscating shaft of sunlight probed into it, illuminating nothing. Near the ruined building, mountains stretch out across, verdant, with small flowers seemingly embroided onto them. The scene in front of him, seemingly threw him into the psychedelic shades of colours. However, amidst the beauty, he stood there, unaffected, unfazed by the sceneries around him. His gaze only focused on the ruined building before him. The surroundings were no longer an useful emollient to his jaded nerves. Rather, they seemed to tug at his conscience, and at his remembrance of what was here. The building, he recalled, had been built years ago, but was abandoned. He and his group of friends had always hung out there. It was a nice isolated spot near their homes, and yet, away, like a hideout. He closed his eyes and the

True Diversity: Ethics Development, Understanding and Application Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Day in and day out, people are faced with making decisions. Whether those decisions are right or wrong is based on ethics. Morals, beliefs and values help determine whether or not a person will make ethical choices. Ethics is defined by www.dictionary.com as "the specific moral choices to be made by a person." In the following paragraphs, I will discuss the difference between ethics and morals, my own personal ethics and the role of critical thinking in ethics.Morals are the "standards of right and wrong", while values are "beliefs of a person" (www.dictionary.com). Ethics are the choices people make based on morals and values. Those morals and values can be learned and can also be based on one's conscience. Conscience plays a big role when making the choice between right and wrong, personal or professional. People who's conscience weighs very heavy in their thought process may make the choice to always do what is right, while people who do not allow their conscience to bother

Some Design decisions can be taken at tender stage Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Some Design decisions can be taken at tender stage,1.1Pre-tender Considerations:1.1.1It is important to consider the labour shortage all over the world at present and therefore the design should be flexible to split the project into two or more contracts or packages. These can be operated simultaneously. By this, two or more different main and sub contractors such as MEP, lifting, cabling, cladding etc can be engaged in construction and the contractor would not face difficulties in finding workers as the work load is divided. This would also minimise the contract period for the project.1.1.2The designer should issue the all necessary drawings, specification details of all major and minor things such as fire protection, corrosion control, ( i.e. "Interchar 21" epoxy based intumescent fire protection etc.) type of nuts and bolts, type of enamel paint to be used to minimize the queries that may be raised by the contractor.
Fighting for marraige equality Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

For the past few decades, the issue of homosexual marriage has been debated on and over again. From the churches to the courtrooms this ongoing dispute has even found itself being discussed in the White House. Politicians use it to gain the public approval, which many of them lack, by speaking in favor or in opposition of gay marriages. Churches generally fight against the legalization of gay marriages in America due to their long standing beliefs. It seems to be wherever the location and whenever the time is right the topic of gay marriage is either in discussion or debate. Some people even consider the subject book worthy. That being said, I introduce Andrew Sullivan, author of "Why the M word Matters to Me," and Komal Bhojwami, author of "Mother Land." Both authors offer their take on the matter and why they feel they should be allotted the same rights as heterosexual couples. The two writers utilize ethos, pathos and logos to establish their arguments.
Colt Power Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The American economy has developed itself around athletic competition. People across the nation tune in and root for their favorite team each and every game. Sports are a billion dollar industry that not only captures the attention of people across the nation but many businesses and cities as they try to capture revenue from team merchandise, beverages, and the revenue from hosting a major national sports team. These teams bring together cities, towns, and even states as people cheer for their team. This has been the case for decades of football in the state of Indiana; over the years, the Indianapolis Colts been the focus of the many fans in Indianapolis, Indiana, and across the United States. In the beginning the Colts were a Baltimore Franchise, they were the first national football team to have cheerleaders ("Indianapolis Colts").
Cockeyed Cavaliers Foolishness Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Cockeyed Cavaliers FoolishnessIn the movie titled "Cockeyed Cavaliers" we see many explicit examples of foolishness presented. In this short synopsis I mention just a few of the many acts of foolishness that really stuck out in my mind. Not only is this movie funny today but it is one of the funniest movies of its time. As well as the foolishness of the movie, I will also touch upon and relate it to Shakespearean foolishness. The movie starts off in a town scene where the Duke is arriving to meet his bride. He is being pulled in to town by a horse and carriage, during this particular scene in the movie is where we see the first explicit example of foolishness. Two escaped crooks are riding below the carriage making wise cracks how they just got away. What makes this so foolish and quite funny is the manner in which they are presented. They are riding on their stomachs below a carriage to some unknown place to them at that time. Later in this scene in the movie we see how

Broken Heart by John Donne Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

John Donne's poem, "The Broken Heart," starts its message with its very title. It hints of heartache and sorrow, and that it's reoccurring subject to be that of unrequited love. In the poem's eight lined, four stanza organizations, the poet addresses the topic of love, showing that the reader's first surmise to be correct, in iambic pentameter and tetrameter. In the first stanza, in literal terms, he believes that anyone who says that they were in love for an hour is insane, not because love is gone so fast, but because love can eat ten people in less than an hour. He doubts anyone will believe him if he said that he had the plague for a year. He deems that people would induce snickers at him if he voiced that he saw a flask of powder burn for a day. In the second, he laments the dilemma a heart would be in if it came into love's hands. He ponders that all grievances are connected, asking for more. Grief comes to people, but Love swallows us whole. Whole ranks die by his adm

Pre-modern China, Korea and Japan Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Without a doubt an understanding of social developments is of great value to historians in analyzing and examining intricate histories and cultures such as those of China, Korea and Japan. Although pre-modern China, Korea, and Japan each constituted discrete histories, they on the other hand also displayed various common grounds in terms of how the social hierarchy of classes gradually transformed from one era to another, the establishment of the elite group and its status by utilizing religions, philosophies and education, and the extent of social mobility within social foundations. Whereas social developments in ancient China were analyzed starting from the Shang Dynasty, ca. 1500 to 1045 BCE, to the Song Dynasty, 960 to 1279, pre-modern Korea was examined starting from the Old Choson period, which started at approximately 108 BCE, to the unified Korea of the Koryo Dynasty, 935 to 1171. Moreover the social infrastructure of ancient Japan from the Yayoi period, ca. 300 BCE to 250 C

Workforce Diversity and Organizational Effectiveness: In Depth Analysis Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The workforce is becoming more diverse everyday, according to William and OReilly (1998) estimated that in the forthcoming decade 75 percent of the workforce will consist of women and ethnic minorities in the US. The workforce of the future will include more people of color, more women, more new immigrants, more special-needs employees - in short, more diversity than the current norm. Diversity in the workplace is important because of its contribution to organization effectiveness and responsiveness, it can help companies better understand and respond to the needs of their varied customers. Also diversity can attract more opportunities to more groups of people and the organization can recruit and retain the best employees. Different people backgrounds can offer fresh perspectives, ideas, and solution; also diverse workforce is more resilient and flexible which can help ensure organizational survival.
Why We Should Study the Environment Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Conservation is important to a lot of people for many reasons. For example, farmers might practice conservation in order to prevent soil erosion and to keep the quality of the soil high in order to get a higher crop yield. People who appreciate plants, animals and nature as a whole strongly believe in conservation. Those who care about the city they live in care about; the air pollution, the number of parks, and decaying neighborhoods. Industrialists have Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) in which they have to give back something to the environment. Usually they are just concerned with taking care of those resources which are linked to their industry. If we generalize, then conservation is important to people for two main reasons; the first is keeping natural resources intact and secondly maintaining a high quality of life. As the world's population booms every year, the natural resources are being used up more quickly as there is no increase in supply to meet the rising demand

The Advancement of Writing Technology: From Pencils to Keyboards Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The world has been around for a very long time. Even though writing has not been as long as the world itself, it has been around long enough to have a little of its own history. The earliest writing that I can remember as long ago as 25,000-3,000 years BP, would be cave carving (don't you guys feel young?). The pictures would tell meaningful stories. Then there were the Egypt paintings. I don't have enough time to talk about every type of writing invented because I'm sure you guys agree that time is precious, so I'll just jump ahead a little. After alphabets were invented people started jotting down their thoughts in sentences. I remember the very first type of writing invented in China was the Chinese Bamboo Writing, we used a writing brush dipped in ink and stringed together strips of bamboo and used it as 'paper'. After pencils and papers were invented, the old bamboo writing was almost completely forgotten and replaced. Since pencils, pens and papers are so convenient and reliable

Creating a Plan for Positive Influence Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Creating a Plan for Positive InfluenceA positive influence plan can be created to assist in building motivation, satisfaction and performance in employees. Integrating quarterly or semi-annual team building sessions, conducting annual employee surveys, providing compensation for good behavior or achievements, and giving quarterly employee reviews are good positive influence plans if it is executed properly. Different personalities in the work place can also affect job motivation, satisfaction and performance. We grew closer as a team because we understood the different forms in which we express our ideas and thoughts. Giving a personality assessment for the team would be beneficial in the long run for everyone but must be done constantly since it changes over time. The PlanA plan that would increase motivation, satisfaction, and performance of our team could be assigning goals for our company or business. Our goal would be to assign each other goal yearly that we could use throug

Change in the documentary genre Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The documentary genre has changed over time. Changes in society have had an impact on the change. There are large commercialist pressures for documentary to become more entertaining and engaging to capture a wider cinema going audience. Documentary has become increasingly popular. Documentaries such as Bowling for Columbine by Michael Moore have been given numerous awards and were widely popular at the box office. The Grey Gardens is a 1975 documentary by Albert and David Maysles. The film depicts the lives of a socialite mother and daughter living in a decrepit mansion. The Grey Gardens uses an observation style of documentary. It uses old style music and the editing pace is slow. The Grey Gardens provides a very different experience than the more recent documentary. The old style of the documentary would have been entertaining to the audience of 1975 as they were more conservative than today's society and would have been able to relate to the people in the documentary. The change

A Reaction Paper on the Movie Rizal (1999) Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

He was "Asia's first apostle of Nationalism". And I have always admired him; his brilliant mind, his incredible aptitude, his undying love for his fatherland, even his sojourn across the globe. He was just no ordinary man. He is our National Hero. The film began with some words from Rizal, I believe all of which that he said is right, that the Philippines is an oppressed country, with oppressed people who have oppressed rights. He lived seeing his fatherland that way; he saw the suffering of his fellow, the injustice of the Spanish tyrants over the Filipino people, the martyrdom of the GOMBURZA fathers, and the unjust arrest of his dear mother. All of these made him to be what he was made into. He studied to learn, to be not ignorant and be not fooled by the oppressors. I admired how he had the courage to go and study abroad to prepare himself for his task for liberating his people. He studied everything he could study, learned everything he could learn, and appreciate all the things t

Improvements in the film industry Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

There have been a number of improvements in the film industry, in the last few years. The movie theaters in the U.S. have increased in growth by 5.3 percent. These are a few examples of the improvements. The actors and actresses have stepped up their games. They are starting to perform their own stunts. Thus, less confusion with stunt doubles. Next, they have show dedication to getting in touch with the characters in the film. For the movie, New Moon, Actor Taylor Launter, was in discussion for being replaced due to the character went through some dramatic changes in the next squeal. Taylor showed off the dedication by gaining forty pounds and bulking up. Sharper picture quality has developed a fresh picture for keeping the viewers attention. When watching a film, the viewers should feel as if they are part of that movie and experiencing that seen. At least that is what Director Michael Bay provided with his vivid scenes in Transformers. The movie theaters are not the

Apartheid failed because it had failed economically. Discuss Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

'Apartheid' refers to more than one type of segregation; socio-economic which is associated with 'Petty Apartheid' and politics which is linked with 'Grand Apartheid'. While the two are intrinsically linked, 'Petty Apartheid' unravelled in the 1980s unlike Grand Apartheid. The thesis in question is an orthodox view that Apartheid stemmed from ideological theory and was economically unworkable. This is clearly prone to teleological assumptions encouraged by the social chaos which existed in 1994 and is prevalent in South Africa today. While economists such as Feinstein and Moll, claim that economics were the driving force behind the end of Apartheid, this essay will argue that the Apartheid economy did not explicitly fail, Apartheid was at least compatible and partially helpful to the capitalist economy; the multitude of social, political, international and psychological factors which exposed economic faults were the more important factors which caused the regime to fall short.
John Locke and Thomas Hobbes - State Of Nature Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

To think of life without a government and exactly how it would present itself is almost impossible. To rely on nature for our societal structure and values over some order of government is quite difficult to picture for anybody within a governmental system. People may fear this mode of thought most probably because they see it as dangerous or less secure than a government structure. Others may be attracted to this mode because they see government as the real danger and may believe lack of government is the most secure structure. Overall, it is difficult for citizens of the governmental system to decide indefinitely if society would really improve in a structure of nature without a government. The following will discuss the role of government in human society. Thomas Hobbes is a 17th century philosopher who published a famous work called "Leviathan." In his writings he refers to society without government as a "state of nature." The structure set up in this society is one where there

What Ache? An effective advertising technique Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

What Ache?About Half-way through the July 2009 issue of Popular Mechanics, I turn the page, and my eyes get diverted from the story I was in the middle of. The bright colors of the page containing an ad for the popular over-the-counter pain medication, Excedrin, immediately grab my attention. Not only do the colors catch my eye, but the use of several different sized fonts do as well. Overall I believe this ad would convince readers to purchase Excedrin Back and Body.As I said, the first thing I noticed when looking at this ad were the colors. The top half of the page is red, and the bottom half is green. The choice of colors in this particular ad reminded me of a red and green light, implying stop and go. In the top half of the page, the red half, there is text in large font and all capitals, that reads, "BACK PAIN IN THE MORNING." With this text, on the red background it is easy to see why I thought the red implied stop. Another word I might used is halt, because as we

This newborn Republic (with only four years) needed to raise its reputation internationally as well as to the Portuguese people, seeing that the monarchy problems, such as the illiterates, the economy and religion, that made it come to power were not solved yet. It would also make the Portuguese Republic more popular than the Spanish government (monarchy) that hadn't entered the War and sympathized more with the Germans. (Oliveira, 50)Consequently, if The Allies won the War, the Republic would be internationally respected, and would also have a recognition that this republic didn't have yet. (Oliveira, 52)Both Angola and Mozambique bordered German colonies (Namibia bordered Angola and Tanzania bordered Mozambique) and it was known that in some conversations between the British and the Germans in 1913, they were interested in sharing the Portuguese colonies with each other, like in 1898, when the Germans landed in African-Portuguese colonies (Namibia and Tanzania), taking o

There is one nice park close to my apartment; it's called ''Schiller Woods Forest Preserve." I am not the only one who really enjoys this place. The Schiller Wood Park magnetize me its good location, the way it looks, and a variety of attractions.First of all, the Schiller Woods Forest Preserve has good location. There is a CTA bus stop on the corner Cumberland Ave and Irving Park Rd. Also, there are gas stations on each corner of the park. Chiropractic focuses on the treatment of the musculoskeletal system. It focuses on spinal manipulation to help with certain illnesses. The most common things it is used to help are back pain, headaches, and neck pain. Chiropractors usually go to approximately 8 years of school and are regulated and licensed in the United States in the same way as medical physicians. For much of its time, chiropractic has been looked down upon compared to mainstream health care. Many people argue about whether chiropractic should be used over conventional medicine. HistoryChiropractic can be traced all the way back to 2700 B.C. in China and Greece.
Beastly Behavior; Considering the Unethical Nature of Zoos Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Zoo elephants swaying from side to side, cheetahs pacing endlessly, and manic monkeys grooming themselves to baldness. This disturbed trance-like behavior is a result of the lack of stimulus afforded to animals in captivity. However, to combat the positive aspect of zoos, it is also important to consider the roles they play in our society and to examine the next step after zoos. Some say zoos serve important purposes, including offering access to researchers, providing money and expertise for habitat preservation elsewhere, and as repositories of genetic material for quickly vanishing species. However, studies have shown animal sanctuaries to be just as beneficial to researchers as zoos and the cost of maintaining the institution leaves minimum leftover funding to go to preservation projects elsewhere. The growth of television media (such as The Discovery Channel) allows city dwellers a new outlet to marvel at nature and has long eclipsed the educational purposes of zoos. Zoos are une

Causes of Suicide and prevention methods Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

AbstractThis research project is based on causes of suicide and prevention methods. It focuses on young adults (age 18-30) and adolescents (age 12-18) but also refers to the elderly (age 65-99) and adulthood (age 30-65). Since many of the symptoms and reasons are similar in all age groups and gender, it is possible to generalize. The material covered are such causes as unemployment, family collapse and interpersonal relationship problems etc. Also provided are the definitions of the four stages leading suicide. The prevention methods are only a sample of the available possibilities."She had said that her walk had been to enduring. Her heart would cry for it was too burdened with secrets, and too saddened by grief. She has decided not to continue. She believed the future had nothing more to offer. Never again could she see the shining light of the sun, nor did she sense the peaceful silence of the night. Even our smiles would threaten her existence.
Single Parenting Can a Single Father or a Single Mother be Successful? Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Who is a successful parent? Does it matter whether the parent is a man or a woman? Of course, the ideal parenting situation includes a mother and father together; however, many and varied are the circumstances which prevent this from happening. There are some aspects of parenting that are unique to being a father and certain characteristics that a mother will naturally possess. The good news is that healthy, well-balanced children can emerge and shine after being thoughtfully raised in the home of a male or female single parent. While both single mothers and single fathers can successfully provide for the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of their children, research and my own personal experience have shown that either gender succeeds by modeling the behavior they wish to instill. The resources of church, community, family and friends are invaluable. Also, governmentally funded provision can be a stipend to the low-income single parent. First, it is a parent's desire to provid

Essay on Wollstonecraft Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Wollstonecraft's essay "On National Education" is a strong argument for equal education among women and men. She states that a woman can only realize her true value, and society can only accept her true value, as an equal participating citizen if she is educated in the same way and subjects as man.Wollstonecraft states that virtue will never prevail in society unless both sexes have the same level of virtue and affection towards each other. This virtue can only be based on reason, intelligence, friendship, and mutual respect for one another. She states that when men are married to uneducated women he has little in common with her and will naturally treat her as inferior. The only way she can overcome this treatment is by developing cunning and plotting methods to control him. A wise man can see through this cunning and their relationship will degrade further because he will have no respect for her and only contempt. He will be unable to develop a warm and respectful relationshi

Reconstruction Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

DID RECONSTRUCTION ACHIVED THE DESIRE GOALS? This question has been in the minds of many historians and also the millions of slaves that believed in the principles of the Emancipation Proclamation issued by President Lincoln. "The newly freed people, who had long yearned for freedom, greeted the news with much excitement and much celebration." (Kelley & Lewis, 2005, p. 236) How naive were they to think that their struggled had ended. History tells us that their struggled did not end, their struggled continued at a higher price. They fought during the Civil War on both sides, because they had a sense of patriotism, they had a sense of belonging even when they were treated without dignity. Their goal was simple; freedom at any cause. If slaves had been given plots of land, they could have gained their own financial freedom. They could have planted, cultivated, and harvest their own crops for profit. They had been able to build schools and educate their families. Some hurricanes, worse than others, go down in history and are never forgotten because of the tremendous impact they leave on its victims. Two well known hurricanes are Hurricane Betsy and Hurricane Katrina. Both of these can be identified by the damage they left in New Orleans and how they affected southern Louisiana.Hurricane Betsy bombarded New Orleans on September 9, 1965. It was a category four hurricane with wind speeds of 110 mph. She also left tracks by leaving major damage in Florida and the Bahamas. She first formed on August 27 in the Atlantic Ocean. As she progressed Betsy took many turns and fooled lots of people. She started as a tropical storm, made her way up to categories one, two, three, four and five then dropped down to four and then back up to five.
Nationalism: A Glimmer of HopeS. L. Price embarks on a quest to find the truth behind Fidel Castro and his athletic "machine"(240). He journeys to Cuba a few times and conducts interviews with some of Cuba's most respected athletes.
Price of Love - Alice Munro and John Updike Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Sometimes the hero of a story is not particularly interesting, clever, or strong. Would you prefer the protagonist of a tale to be a knight in shining armor, a wizard, or a warrior princess? Would you rather read about people just like you and I, who go through developmental stages in life to which we can all relate? If you read about a perfect main character too frequently, do you become exasperated that he or she never makes mistakes and is absolutely flawless in every way? In Alice Munro's short story, "An Ounce of Cure," and John Updike's, "A&P," the two narrators tell about their incidents of falling in love during their adolescent years and suffering the consequences while in that raging hormonal state of their obsession with the opposite sex. I believe that the authors chose to capture those awkward, coming of age experiences to which nearly everyone can relate; namely, the excitement of infatuation, the humiliation of rejection, and the embarrassment of making irrational,

Electromagnetic Fields Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Simple things such as home wiring, radars, and computers can be a hazard to our health. But the ongoing question that is usually argued about is that it might not be true, because electromagnetic fields can be found naturally also. In this essay many things will be explained it will make you choose whether you are for electromagnetic fields or if you are against it. This essay includes: what are electromagnetic fields, benefits of electromagnetic fields, hazards of electromagnetic fields, arguments for electromagnetic fields, arguments against electromagnetic fields. What are electromagnetic fields?Electromagnetic fields are made when electrons accelerate. When particles are charged like an electron they create magnetic fields but when the speed of a charged particle changes, they create electromagnetic fields. Electromagnetic fields were first found in the 19th century. Physicists used sparks and found out you can connect things even without wires.
Censorship - Who Do I Believe? Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Do we ever really know the complete truth? Truth is considered, among many things, impartial, subjective and neutral to all. Unfortunately, however, in the world today, a realm of deceit and bias, the definitive line between truth and false becomes hazy at best. This is an era of facts being questioned and beliefs being forgotten. The neutrality of this so-called oetruth has been modified so we now must give it a new definition: oeTruth is whatever a powerful and influential person makes it. Is this right? Is this the truth? Who should one believe? Today, it seems, the one to believe is the one that has the best argument and the loudest voice. Regardless of good or bad intentions, the truth should never be withheld from the people because then our world spirals into a mistrustful and mislead society with no light in sight. The present is a world of oeinstant news and oemass media, where information of all types can reach all corners of the earth in seconds.
Nairobi Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Nairobi, Kenya Many say Africa is 'God's own continent'. The exquisiteness, the landscape, and the splendor of this continent has always marveled people all over. Of all the movies, news bulletins and YouTube videos that I have seen on Africa, almost all have painted a similar gory picture about the continent. Most of the times I am told that the woman there live a life of slaves, the children aged 8 - 10 become a part of the local war gangs, the government is good for nothing and so on so forth. When I started to look for information on the social life of Nairobi, Kenya I expected to encounter a similar scenario - one filled with pain, grief, and loss. But I was to be surprised! Nairobi is the capital as well the only urban city of Kenya. It has a population of 3 - 4 million. If I were to talk about the society at large, then the first thing that needs to be mentioned is that the people living here can be segmented into clear cut, specific groups.
Strategic marketing case: Frito Lays Dips Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

How would you characterize the dip category in general? Dips are complementary products that go well with salty snacks like chips and crackers or with raw vegetables. Dips have become very popular in the mid 80s mainly due to the convenience of use and snacking habits of the Americans. Supermarkets account of about 80% of the total retail sales in the dip category. The Supermarket retail sale of dips in 1985 was estimated at $620 million. The retail sales have been increasing at a steady rate of 10% every year. The total units sold per year were however constant and the sales growth was mainly due to price increases. The growth in this category was entirely in Cheese based dips category mainly due to growing popularity of Mexican food such as nachos. Years 1984 and 1985 saw an increased level of competition in the dip category. The reasons are two fold. 1) Existing players in the market introduced new

DREAMS, INSTINCTS AND BALANCE (The Horse Boy) Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Multiple facets of this incredible story left indelible marks on my soul. Rupert's raw honesty, lack of pretenses and the sheer guts to face realities head on drenched me in inspiration and influence. I have actually found myself leaning towards more "right out there" honesty in my own spoken statements after reading this book. That's not to presume achievement of such a high level of honesty lacking phony pretenses...but I am more aware and there is a taste of freedom in that. A couple of examples of the refreshing raw honesty I speak of are: "...since Rowan's autism had kicked in, I had, I admit, become something of a functional alcoholic, and had put on the extra pounds to prove it." or "I wanted to hit him in moments like this, my hot, sudden anger fed by distress and powerlessness." Allowing guidance from the heart's propensity to dream; keeping balance through difficulty and trusting one's gut are the deep-seated messages from The Horse Boy.This family's amazing journey w

How did Hitler challenge and exploit the Treaty of Versailles to gain popularity? Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

After the completion of the Treaty of Versailles there where very few satisfied with the final terms and conditions. The French had had their land torn apart and their population devastated (1.4 million military dead) during World War One and understandably demanded that the Germans suffer like they had. Whilst the US and Britain where not so keen to harshly persecute. The overall compromise made was not harsh enough in the eyes of the French and far too harsh in the eyes of the US and Britain. But it was the Germans who despised the treaty most of all, especially Article 231(War guilt clause) and the absurd 6.6 billion pound reparations they now owed. But in the face of all this anger and frustration would rise Adolf Hitler; an opportunist who used the German publics resentment to rise to power and turn Germany into a totalitarian state under his command. This essay will show how Hitler gained prestige by challenging and undermining the terms of the treaty that he saw as an injustice.
