Introduction In 2000, Merck & Co. was a global research-driven pharmaceutical company dedicated to discovering, developing and manufacturing of a broad variety of health products, addressed to meet a broad range of human and animal medical needs.
Boston creamery case study Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In the first story, the main fault for the poor performance is places into operations. Forecasted variable operating costs were much lower than the actual costs. This fact resulted into higher cost of production and thus higher consumer price. As we can see, a lot of loss came from the manufacturing side: milk, sugar and carton variances were unfavorable from both price and quantity prospective. For this reason, realistic standard prices are the key. Boston Creamery is a big company which can easily find suppliers with favorable prices. Besides, average and lowest market prices for milk and sugar should be monitored and taken into consideration. For example, if the increase in sugar prices is predicted, company can negotiate lower prices when buying bigger volumes. Fixed costs can be examined by estimating needed amount of workers as well as evaluation of the production methods and technologies. Different possibilities for cutting both variable and fixed costs should be explored and im

Kripkes causal theory of reference Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Kripke's causal picture of reference is his attempt to improve upon the theories of description theorists. In his "Naming and Necessity", Kripke exposed the shortcomings of the concept that descriptions are what fix reference by recounting and analyzing the theories set forth by philosophers such as Frege, Russell, and Searle. I intend to explain the causal picture, through definition and analogy, and illustrate why this brilliantly simple elucidation of how reference is fixed is an improvement over, for example, Searle's 'cluster' theory. Unlike the theories referred to above, Kripke's does not offer a list of necessary and sufficient conditions for reference. While he does refer to it as a theory, Kripke doesn't defend his offering as such; instead he calls it a "better picture" of the process of assigning reference. The beauty of his position is in its simplicity. After wading through the extensive explanations of these other theories, it was incredibly refreshing to be int

Psychological and Ethical Egoism Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

As we encounter certain problems through our every day lives, we sometimes are given the responsibility to make decisions and behave in a way that will grant ourselves, as well as others, happiness or a sense of satisfaction. These tasks that we face sometimes may give us the impression that we overcome them for specific reasons. Psychological Egoism addresses those reasons as ones that solely revolve around self-interested acts. In other words, psychologists would certainly all agree that people mostly do things to benefit themselves, as in, either their physical statute or their moral happiness. This perception has, for a long time, caught the attention of many philosophers because of the ethics that deal with altruism, and other acts that occur out of selflessness. This concept of Psychological Egoism in fact proves that theory wrong since the person only worries about himherself with the self-interested goals trying to be completed. There is also the possibility that a person only

Sow bugs Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

I did this project to find out more about sow bugs and their eating habits. What I did was find two sow bugs and put them in a petri dish with wet sand and gave them four leaves of different kinds cut into squares to experiment with. Every day we would collect data on how much the sow bug had eaten. I found that in the beginning the sow bug ate 3% sugar maple but changed his mind when he tried the maple red and ate 8%. the sow bug never stopped eating sugar maple. If sow bugs have a food preference then the sow bugs will eat a higher percentage of one leaf over another. Do sow bugs have a food preference is the question being investigated. My hypothesis is sow bugs do have a food preference. If I am right with my hypothesis then the sow bug will keep eating certain leaves. If not an I am wrong sow bugs will eat freely any leave. Sow bugs eat both dead and alive plant and animal debris. We keep the sow bugs in the dark over night because they are some times nocturnal.
Alternate Energy Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Photovoltaic cells (PV cells)Photovoltaic cells are operated by solar thermal energy, one of the renewable energy sources. Australia has a great potential to generate electricity from solar thermal cells, as the level of solar radiation in Australia is relatively high compared to other countries. As this can save lots of energy and reduce many environmental problems, Photovoltaic cells are already in use in Australia. Recently, a project of building a solar thermal tower has been approved by the Queensland government (Donovan. C, 2008). The physics principle of a PV cell is identical to nuclear power station. Water is heated at a very high temperature of between 280 and 1000 to produce high- pressure stream, which then gives the conventional turbine power to produce electricity. However, unlike the nuclear power station, photovoltaic cells do not burn fuel. Instead they collect the energy of the sun by using mirrors to concentrate the sun light onto heat exchangers (U.
Symbology in the film Gattaca Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Topic Question: Nothing is random in the world created by the director; how does the director of Gattaca use symbolism to explore ideas?Gattaca is a science fiction film which was made in 1997 and directed by Andrew Niccol. In the film, Andrew Niccol presents us with a future where genetic research has become so advanced that it is changing mankind. It gives a cynical view of the future and acts as a warning to what we might one day become. The film is based around future genetic research. It shows people being able to choose such things like what their child will look like, their personality traits and their sporting abilities. There are two different types of people in the world; Invalid and Valid. Invalids are those who have been conceived in love, where the parents have put their trust in their faith in order for a 'natural' birth. Valids are those who were basically made in a test tube. They possess the best traits of their parents, inevitably making them the best they can be

A Transition towards Redemption: Pulp Fiction gives a second Chance. Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

As movie goers and amateur film critics, we will never be able to fully comprehend or appreciate Quentin Tarantino's capacity for creativity, but his internationally acclaimed crime-drama, Pulp Fiction (1994), may give insight into what some critics refer to as pure genius. Pulp Fiction, set in the west coast crime capital, Los Angeles, implements a high profile cast and a nonlinear storyline to relate the tales in vignettes of an LA crime boss, an unrestrained boxer, the predicament had by two hit men, and a couple's unfortunate attempt at robbing a diner. Ranging from small time crooks to malicious underworld gangsters, the characters in the film all embody crime on various levels, but closer examination may yield an unexpected underlying theme. Pulp Fiction proves that even people who function poorly in society can be given a second chance to come clean and redeem themselves. The first story told in the film involves Vincent and Jules, two likeable yet ruthless hit men working

Is CSR philanthropy at other peoples expense? Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

IntroductionWhen elaborating on the statement "Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is philanthropy at other people's expense", this paper will start off by addressing the context in which the statement has been presented in the article "Two-faced Capitalism" (The economist, 2004). It has become a common opinion amongst CEOs, eco-warriors and NGOs that environmental and social issues matter and that profit is not the only important variable when measuring a company's success. However, there is no agreement about how. CSR should be performed by companies. The question with CSR is whether it is ethical or not to use CSR as a tool for profit-maximization. Those in favour of CSR debates how unethical it is not to make CSR profit-maximizing because the company is using their shareholder's money to raise charity, while non-profitable CSR would be the same as taking money from their accumulated profit.Critics of CSR are NGOs who disagree with CSR being non-compulsory. They argue that

Barbie: The Fade of Plastic Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Barbie, launched in 1959, was portrayed as the spitting image of the ideal woman with her blonde hair, blue eyes, and perfectly proportioned bust, waist, and hips. This idol casted in plastic became a role model for women, both young and old but underneath the facade of plastic laid a deeper meaning. In Mondo Barbie by Lucinda Ebersol and Richard Peabody, Forever Barbie by M.G. Lord, the 2001 movie Legally Blonde, the 2006 version of Barbie: Mermaidia, the article Barbie: "A Doll With Feminist Motives" by Shannon Berquist, and the wikipedia article Barbie, these collection of works intertwine together leading to a common theme that they all share. The image of Barbie changes with the trends of modernization, but Barbie is also a symbol for the ever changing roles of females in society. The short story collection, Mondo Barbie, contains an assortment of pieces ranging from poems to excerpts taken from novels. In one poem, it describes a young girl who grew up like any other girl bu

On Cristina Deutekom - An overview Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Cristina DeutekomAs is often the case with singers from non-Italian backgrounds, CristinasupTMsups given name was quite different from her professional name. Cristina was born Stientje Engel in 1931 to working class parents in the Spaarndammer neighborhood in Amsterdam. Although both were active in choral music, neither had any formal musical training. Mrs. Deutekom recalls that her mother had a lovely singing voice, and that the family spent Sunday evenings listening to Opera radio broadcasts from Radio Belgium. It was through a neighborhood singing-club that Cristina first became involved in the world of vocal music. By the age of 5, she had already begun appearing in childrensupTMsups operettas. It was not until her early teens that Cristina had her first voice lesson from Jan Smit, the music director of the local youth choir. Little is published about the period from adolescence to her marriage to Jaap Deutekom at the age of 21, but it was immediately obvious th

Athletes as Role Models Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Athletes as Role Models Primetime timeslots, Monday Night's main attraction, a large slice of the daily paper, and worldwide attention and recognition. This is the life of America's superstar athletes, but only in part. America's professional athletes, their political standings, and their actions on and off the court, continually project an image of not only themselves, but of the team and sport they are a part of, and the proper way for an American to act. Their actions and opinions are under constant observation by our adult population, people of other nations, and probably the most important and impressionable, our youth. Consequently, the professional athletes' vast ability to influence the public is one that they need to take very seriously. America should have higher expectations of their professional athletes than they do of the general public because of this influential power. Moreover, these expectations should not simply relate to conduct "on the field," such as

Oil is a Vital Resource and the Sovereignty of Oil Producing Nations Must be Preserved Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Section One: IntroductionIntroduction of TopicIn the past century, the world has witnessed series of wars that lead to the loss of lives, countries, cities, and families. Most of those wars were based on arguments. But after the discovery of oil in the 1930's, the world is witnessing a long term war that will keep escalating until the oil producing country's oil resources are depleted. This war has taken many innocent lives. These lives were taken just because they were citizens of oil producing countries. Oil today is one of the most vital resources known to mankind and the sovereignty of oil producing countries must be respected and preserved. This paper will discuss the formation of the oil producing countries, how the oil is being managed today, and what must be done to maintain the sovereignty of the oil producing nations in the future.
ADDING YEARS TO MY LIFE - Stop Smoking Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

I used to smoke around 10 cigarettes a day. Not enjoying the taste, or the smell, but smoking anyway. Why did I smoke? I don't know. Maybe because most of my friends did it or because it was the trend or maybe I was habitual to it. There was a moment that I had to choose between smoking and jogging. Smoking was part of my life for some time. I started smoking at 18. At the beginning it was one or two cigarettes a day. After some time I was smoking around 10 cigarettes; however, if I was joining friends for a coffee, or if we were celebrating a wedding, a birthday, or doing homework together, the amount of cigarettes were many more than 10. I married and my husband does not smoke. He actually bothers the cigarette smoke and smell. I had my first son and I was still smoking. At that time I used to work in a bank; so, I wanted to be in shape again as soon as possible before I returned to work. My work used to pay for me to go to the gym and I loved it.
Advertisments Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The world of advertising can be exciting and distinct. It has the capability of influencing the whole society to follow a certain trend or idea; or to buy a certain product. All around the world there is some type of advertising. There is an advertisement for just about everything made. Advertising's primary purpose is to sell. Whether it is selling a product as in shoes or makeup or it is selling a television show or a popular music album, advertisements are always trying to hook buyers or viewers. How do the littlest things such as a catchy song get someone to go buy a product? This can be answered through a variety of topics. An advertisement for Orbit gum uses three main topics to appeal to their audience. These three are rhetorical appeals called ethos, pathos and logos. The first argument that comes about is the visual argument. Visuals are the main part of advertising, since everyone at least looks at an advertisement. One may not read the words on the page, but on

BMWs Success Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

BMW's SuccessBayerische Motorenwerke, otherwise known as Bavarian Motor Works or BMW, is a very successful car company in today's world. Through years of innovation and research they are able to produce some of the most luxurious, reliable top end cars. However, all of this couldn't have happened without the birthplace of BMW and the opportunities given to them over their years in the business. BMW started off as Rapp Motorenwerke, under the owner Karl Rapp designing and building airplane engines. With the recent outbreak of World War One, the demand for airplane engines increased and Rapp Motorenwerke began supplying the Austrian Army with aero engines. Unfortunately the engines being produced were not top notch so the company we know today as BMW was almost forced to be liquidated; but as Gladwell talks about individuals like Bill Gates being in the right place at the right time, Rapp Motorenwerke was caught in the right time as well.
Log of a Cowboy by Andy Adams Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

He then moved to Texas in the early 1880s for ten years herding cattle on the western trail. He later moved to Colorado and began gold-mining. He ended up in Colorado Springs, Colorado where he died. These experiences helped him base his fiction book on what really happened in his lifetime. The Log of a Cowboy is a fiction book based on actual events. It tells about a young cowboy that helped to drive 3,000 longhorn cattle from Brownsville, Texas to Montana. This occurred in 1882 on the United States Western Plains when he was only sixteen years old. Andy wrote this to show what it was really like for a cowboy in this time. The characters in this book were used to describe the many hardships that a cowboy went through during these trails. On the trail, the characters told stories to help entertain them.
Thank you, John Cho Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

I first met John Cho in Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. At home, watching it on my 32-inch screen, I was dumbfounded, not at the sheer silliness of the movie's premise but, at "Long Duk Dong" last, an Asian knight in shining grammar. He spoke with a clear, seriously dude, English accent - pardon, American accent (as English is British Proper -said with nose slightly up so as to see the hairs); smoked the ganja, shunned a cute hyphenated American in favor of round-eyes, white hottie, and showed no interest nor displayed any affinities toward the martial arts. Hooray?!Obviously, in this theatrical "haha," and in the follow-up - Escape From Gitmo, there were stereotypes of Asians. Be it the Asian club's boring nerd squad that turned out to be a faade in White Castle; or the misguided and ignorant government agent that interrogated Harold's parents in Escape From Gitmo, none of these were part of Harold's character. He maintained a humorous distance from all things stereo

Assess the argument that the basic features of family life have remained largely unchanged for the majority of the population since the 1950 Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In order to see if the basic features of family life have remained largely unchanged for the majority of the population since the 1950s, it is necessary to observe what each theory believes of what has changed in society since 1950. Marriages today are more likely to be based on love and companionship, however in the past marriage was a necessity. If a couple who were cohabiting with a child in the 1950s would not be classed as a "family". The nuclear family (consisting of a husband and a wife with dependent children) this was idealized in the 1950's with the going out to work and the wife taking care of the house and family matters. This was seen as a foundation of a healthy society because the society thought the children were given a strong moral foundation to work and grow from. The father was given the role of the "breadwinner" meaning he brings home the goods and money. The role of the male being the "breadwinner" still shows in today's society, however the percentage of women wo

Can online multiplayer games be hazardous to your health? Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Can online multiplayer be hazardous to your health? So hazardous that they can even cause death? Some people say yes, while others say no. Before you answer this question take a look at some fact I gathered from the article titled "Caught in the Web," by Jon Miller. More than 140,000 people play EverQuest simultaneously around the globe. EverQuest has more than 430,000 subscribers, making it the most popular online multi-player game in America. 4.7% of South Korea's population plays a similar online multi-player game called Lineage. One South Korean man played Lineage for eighty-six hours straight and died from exhaustion. Another was found on the floor of an internet cafe bathroom, bleeding from his nose and foaming at the mouth after playing for thirty-two hours straight. A father from Tampa, FL locked his eighteen month old son in a closet, so he could play EverQuest without distractions. The infant was found dead more than twenty-fours later. EverQuest is one of those online multi

Women of the Odyssey Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Women in the Odyssey may not have had legal rights but they had power and control. They played many roles in this epic poem. They were the backbone in many situations. We will examine women of the Odyssey, who they were and the roles they played in this epic poem by Homer.Penelope is the mother of Telemachus and wife of Odysseus, king of Ithaca, whom she hasn't seen in twenty years. Although faced by temptation of the suitors vying for her and pressuring her to remarry, she remains faithful to her husband. She shows she is clever when she puts the suitors off by saying she will finally remarry when she completes the burial shroud that was for the future funeral of her elderly father-in-law. She would weave all day and then at night unweave what she did during the day so she would have no progress and therefore not have to remarry. She continued this for three years until a servant discovered this faade and betrayed Penelope by telling the suitors of this deed.
Predaceous Diving Beetle Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The scientific name for this insect is "Dytiscidae. Generally, about 1" in length, the diving beetle has six jointed legs; mandibles or jaws; maxillary which are the mouth parts that allow the insect to grasp food; a thorax or middle section where the legs and wings are attached; an abdomen where the heart, reproductive organs, and digestive system are. Lastly, elytra; four wings that protect the hind wings.AdaptationsThe diving beetle has two hind wings for flying or swimming. These long wings can easily be folded under the beetle's elytra. The electra are hardened four wings that protect the long hind wings. The adult stage of the beetle capture an air bubble behind her wings as an underwater air supply. The beetle can stay under water many minutes because of the air bubble that acts like a diver's tank. The beetle takes in a lot of oxygen; dissolved oxygen from the water diffuses into the bubble to replace it. This gives it more air supply; so it can remain under wate

Epiphany of Barry Egan in Punch-Drunk Love Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, Punch-Drunk Love stars Adam Sandler who breaks away from his clich' formula roles as a funny man. His character, Barry Egan, is a manic depressant, awkward, anxious, loose cannon of a tense hopeless romantic. The movie is based on a quirky acquaintance between Barry and Lena (played by Emily Watson). The movie is vibrant, colorful and beautiful to look at. It is powerfully human and full of uneasy humor. The premise: Barry Egan owns his own business selling novelty plungers, has seven sisters, finds a small piano dropped off by a shady-looking van in the street after witnessing a horrible car accident, empties grocery store stocks of Healthy Choice pudding in hopes of collecting a million frequent flyer miles, calls a phone sex line looking to chat and gets robbed by three blonde brothers looking to collect for their phone hooker, wears the same blue suit the whole movie, and ultimately warms your heart with acts of courage, and awk

Praying With Purpose Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

One who questions the purpose of prayer is surely not alone. After all, if we are encouraged to understand that God does not make decisions, think about situations, weigh circumstances, or choose to grant our wishes, then why should we even pray at all? It is a fair assumption to make that many people forget to pray, or avoid it all together, simply because they believe God is either ignoring or snubbing their pleas. They may feel resentful and even personally offended by God's "deaf ears", so to speak. However, Herbert McCabe sheds great light on this dilemma in his article "Prayer", featured in God Matters. He asserts that, first, one must try to pray in order to make sense of it; but McCabe does not piously end his argument there. He enables us to understand the purpose of prayer by defining it in terms of Christ's sacrifice, and finally, by spelling out both what prayer is and what it is not.McCabe himself is "wholly in agreement in the end with the view that prayer (like l

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In the book, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Sherman Alexie, there are many situations that arise due to the culture that the main character, Arnold Spirit, lives in. Arnold, being a Native American and living on the reservation, refuses to become a product of the culture he is raised in and throughout the book tries to prove to others his self worth. Along the way he encounters many trials dealing with death in the family, racism, stereotypes, and loneliness. One thing that stuck out to me in the book was the racial slurs and stereotypes that occurred. After Arnold switched schools it was obvious how much animosity the Indians on the reservation had towards him. His best friend beat him up, everybody booed him when they played basketball against each other, and he was often called derogatory terms such as "Apple," meaning red on the outside but white on the inside. It is easy to see that racism goes both ways and the Native Americans portrayed in this book had

Relationship between asset management and housing management Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

INTRODUCTION In the past few years, asset management in England has been improved considerably. Moreover, there are a number of authorities have made greatly progress up the capital and asset planning learning curve. However, the method of most local authorities that manage assets started from a low base and some even do not know what assets they owned. John Healey MP, Minister for Local Government (2008) states that "In the past local authorities were required to submit their corporate capital strategies and asset management plans to the Government Offices but as standards began to rise this requirement was removed". Obviously, the challenge of all authorities is to reach the level of the best and ensure that there are suitable strategies to obtain the asset base. In additional, housing is an aspect of assets. It may be a product which is high durable and flexible. However, housing is immovable and expensive. The nature of housing issues and its services is slow in altering.
Text Messaging when Driving - Do You Care? Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Text messaging while driving is very common across the United States and causes many of automobile accidents. Over this past weekend my mom was driving on RT. 66, heading towards the highway to take me to work. While we are driving, she was concentrating on sending her friend a text message, which kept her from keeping her eyes on the road. She was looking down at her phone for to long and started merging to the other side of the road. When she glanced up from looking at her phone, she noticed she was on the wrong side of the road and hurried to swerve back into her lane. Her sending a two second text message could of ended our life instantly if another car was coming at the correct speed limit or even over the speed limit. Text messaging now is illegal all throughout the United States and in Maryland you can expect to pay a $500 fine just for texting behind the wheel. Less accidents and deaths would be avoided if people would take the time to pay attention to the road and be patient

Air Up There Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

1.0 ABSTRACTThe aim of this experiment is to lift a 50g weight attached to a balloon filled with a gas that is lighter than air. The gas has to be produced on site, meaning that an effective method of producing this gas would have to be discovered. To be able to achieve this aim, the lightest possible gas would be needed. This gas would also have to be cheaply, quickly and easily produced by a suitable method. The gas needs to be safe to use also, meaning that the gas would have to be non-poisonous and not dangerous to use, to prevent injury. After researching a series of unique gases, it was found that Hydrogen would be the most suitable gas to fit all the requirements. Hydrogen is the lightest gas in existence and it is easily made. It was discovered that there were three different methods of producing this gas, including, 'Electrolysis of Water', 'Acid and Metal' and an 'Alkali and Metal'. The 'Alkali and Metal' reaction proved to be the most effective method of producing hydroge

story of an hour critical essay Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Hour Critical EssayImagine you have only been married for thirteen years have six children, and your husband dies suddenly. How would you handle that? Kate Chopin worked hard and become a famous author. She wrote many different stories such as The Awakening, The Kiss and The Story of an Hour. Many of her literary works were ahead of her time and not well accepted by her society (Reuben). When reading her literary works now, such as The Story of an Hour, some of the context and character reactions may seem absurd, such as Mrs. Mallard's reaction to her husband's death or that she dies at the end of the story. However, by looking into the psyche of Kate Chopin in The story of an Hour, the reader can understand why Kate Chopin wrote what she did and notice the similarities between Kate Chopin and Mrs. Mallard. To begin, the psychological literary criticism can be defined as examining the psyche of literary characters, audience or the author (Gardner 46-47). Like car making and banking, the drug trade has become a truly international industry. Without a national identity, this organized business is being carried out by money, manpower, transport, expertise, influence and power. These vast enterprises are run by gangs and organized crime groups from all cultures around the world. Some examples are the cocaine drug cartels in Colombia and Mexico. The Triads in Hong Kong, Taiwan and China and various mafia groups throughout the world. Drugs of all kinds are being produced in all regions of the world made for an estimated 200 million regular and casual users. Some drugs that are being manufactured are cocaine, heroin, ecstasy, crack, meth and of course marijuana.
Loves Magic Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Drama is a form of communication, the art of storytelling at its best. How a story is interpreted however, is based upon the actors' portrayal of characters towards the audience. By using a diversity of techniques the average actor can expose different concepts to an audience. An example of this can be seen through the Bell Shakespeare performance of "Loves Magic". Which throughout the four actors use a variety of key drama elements such as mood, language and symbols to explore Shakespearian text and communicate to the audience a version of Shakespeare which they surprisingly found to their understanding. The mood the actors establish on stage impacts greatly on an audiences understanding of the play. It is the mood of the play which is responsible for enticing the audience to believe the reality of the drama. The actors from Bell Shakespeare demonstrated this quite well, they got the audience so involved that not only could the audience relate to the play but they also felt as if t

Her grandfather Koro, places so much importance on the tribe's ancestry and the tradition of a first born son being the next chief. When the first born son dies, and Pai lives; he fails to acknowledge the leadership qualities that Pai possesses in which to fulfil her destiny. Caro uses various film techniques to depict the importance of the scenes in the chapter Paikea's Whale. In the scenes when Pai first comes in contact with the whale and when she starts to ride the whale, Caro creates a mystical atmosphere with the use of film techniques. The music that accompanies Pai when she connects with the whale is eerie but strong as it is very deep and low, it helps emphasise the connection that Paikea has with the whale. When Pai is connected with the whale instead of Koro, when he told her to stay awa

CHEVY VOLT MARKETING ENVIRONMENT Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

CHEVY VOLT MARKETING EVIRONMENTGeneral Motors is currently undergoing a marketing campaign for the anticipated release of the Chevrolet Volt in 2010. The Volt is the newest in a number of electric and hybrid vehicles that are purporting to be the next generation of commuter transportation. General Motors has recently been faced with hard times and has turned in large losses. With a number of proven hybrid and electric vehicles currently on the market they have staked a tremendous amount of interest, time, and money into the development and marketing of a vehicle that can differentiate itself from its competitors in the hope of long term profit and market dominance. I believe that the future of the Volt rests heavily on the marketing campaign put forth by GM, and that their success depends on convincing the customer the Volt is a vehicle and technology unlike and superior to those already offered. The following is a quick analysis of the marketing environment for the Chevy Volt a

Storm Commentary - Samah Syed Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Theodore Roethke's poem The Storm is about a raging and radical storm that has affected many people within that area. The author makes the reader feel as if they are in this chaotic and radical storm while keeping the structure of the poem very basic. By keeping the poem very simple, it is divided into three parts making the reader feel as if he's in the storm as well as using a surplus of punctuation and poetry devices. The three parts which this poem is broken up into is the imagery of the storm, extending the visual aspect by having a first person stanza and finally a history of the storm and how it was violent in the author's perspective. The Storm is a poem which shows the connection between nature and men.The poem makes the reader dive into an immense amount of imagery while the storm is approaching. The punctuation in the first part of the poem is very precise causing the reader to have a lucid observation on the nature of the poetry. Theodore Roethke uses his punctuation ver

Hydrogen is one of the simplest however most prominent element in the universe. Containing only one proton and one electron, the hydrogen element is combined majority of the time with other elements.
Reflections on Who Moved My Cheese Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Cheese. It is such a simple and yet sometimes elusive idea. I read this book some time ago and listen to the audio this time as a refresher. I recalled some of the things I thought were important cheese earlier in my life and the crazy actions I took to hold onto cheese in the past. I now wonder what things I am doing today that I might look back on in the future and consider why this cheese is important or why I am so upset when it moves. Looking at my today, I realize I have many different types of cheese. I have shared cheese in my relationship, which we both strive towards. Having a happy home and peaceful surroundings are at the top of this list. Sometimes this cheese is harder to find and requires many runs around the maze or like the cheese in the story it moves from place to place or you find different types. There is my own individual cheese which is part of the relationship. The need for connection and companionship are two of these types of cheese.Individually, I think m

Apsu and Tiamat- Creation Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

In the Babylonian genesis a story is told about the creation of the cosmos. It starts with the parents, Apsu and Tiamat. Apsu is the salt water ocean and his wife Tiamat is the sweet water ocean. Their first son mummu is the mist of the two bodies combined. All three of these waters formed a cloud in which everything came from. This cloud included all the ingredients or elements in which everything then came from. These are the parent gods and before them there was nothing, no time. Soon after came other gods. Through Anshar and Kishar children such as Anu, the sky god and his son Ea who was a wise god came Ea's son was Marduk who would save the young gods and create the world and the cosmos. But before Marduk's birth Apsu and Mummu had become tired of hearing the gods who were loud. All Apsu, Tiamat and Mummu wanted was to sleep so having their sleep disrupted by the younger gods Apsu and Mummu devised a plan to kill all the younger gods so they could have silence and be left undistu

Mastering the skill of communication Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

When I think of a skill that most people have, but have not mastered it would have to be the skill of communication. Communication is one of the most important parts of our lives and doing it properly can be the difference between having good things happen and not. When I speak of communication I a.m. not only speaking of speech, there are other things that make up the skill of communication, and I will cover them in this essay. To begin with I would like to cover speech. When we talk to someone we give off a vibe of whether we are trustworthy or not by how we speak. So many people talk in what I consider gibberish. When I a.m. speaking to them I very nearly am confused by what is being said. As an example of this I would like to tell a little story of something that happened recently at work. A coworker was speaking to me and trying to tell me the things that had happened during the day. She was using all sorts of terms that I did not understand. Finally I had to stop h

United States - Canada Free Trade Agreement Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

The idea of free trade agreement between Canada and the United States existed since Confederation, but it took more than a century to be realized despite 3 aborted attempts. For decades, both countries had been each other largest trading partner. Yet there had been barriers to the free flow of goods and services, in spite of many past agreements on specific products that lowered tariffs under 1%. The idea of an effective free trade area in its final form developed and was born in the late 80's. What were the objectives of this agreement, the issues raised in achieving it and its results?United States - Canada free Trade Agreement involved two close and economically well-developed countries. It was a bilateral agreement designed to eliminate trade barriers and open new avenues of trade between two North American nations that strengthened an already extensive trading relationship and enhanced economic opportunity on both sides of their common border.
Poetic Techniques and Meanings in Father and Child Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Gwen Harwood once said, "All a poet needs is the journey from innocence to experience." This is seen to be true as the subject matter of her poem 'Father and Child' from the anthology Poems (1963) explores the aforementioned journey. My attitude to poetry has been broadened by my understanding of the integral role poetic devices play in the construction of meaning. I always believed poetry to be a poet's personal experience however this attitude has been challenged as Harwood often does not adopt the persona in her poetry, as exemplified in 'Father and Child' . Instead, Harwood explores universal meanings that can resonate with readers worldwide. Harwood was influenced by religion, philosophy and music therefore reinforcing the musical quality to her poetry and the poignancy of the Biblical allusions she incorporates. The poem 'Father and Child' reflects the journey from innocence to experience and this is reinforced through poetic devices. 'Barn owl' sees a child journey to experience

Learning and Cognitive development: Piaget vs. Vygotsky Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

This essay will attempt to discuss and evaluate Piagetian and Vygotskian theories with reference to the teaching of mathematics to a culturally diverse group of second-grade learners at an urban primary school. In order to better understand the context, this educational situation will be further defined and the key points highlighted. These key points will serve as guidelines for the evaluation of the theories. Prior to an evaluation, it is first necessary to discuss these theories in detail and how they could be applied to this situation. An argument will then be presented on why the Vygotskian theory is more applicable to this situation and to conclude, the evaluation of these theories will be presented within the context of urban schools in South Africa. The context presented has a number of key defining features. The first seems obvious but is necessary to state. This is the fact that the learners are being taught that is to say receiving instruction. This point is key when eval

Employee Development and Training at Kmart Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Walking into a local K-Mart is less than a perfect experience because the customer service is poor. A consumer with the online name of Rose Lee complains "[Kmart] seems to think six people can run a store: one on checkouts, one at service desk, one in jewelry, one in electronics, one on the floor, and one in receiving" (my3cents.com, 2006, 1). Another comment from Noodlehead, who is 100% in agreement, complains about long lines, angry customers, and few cashiers (my3cents.com, 2006, 7). The atmosphere of a K-Mart store does not compare with the competitors. Consumers enjoy the inviting atmosphere at Target and short lines and helpful staff at Wal-Mart. Kmart, who is renowned for the blue light special, excelled as the low cost department store through the eighties and into the nineties. The aging giant has been usurped by Wal-Mart as the low cost leader and Kmart must adapt to the current market in which consumers expect exceptional customer service along with the low prices.
