Need for Speed: Underground 2 (NFSU2) is a multiplatform racing video game published and developed by Electronic Arts. Released in 2004, it is the sequel to Need for Speed: Underground, and is part of the Need for Speed series, available on GameCube, PlayStation 2, Xbox, Nintendo DS, Game Boy Advance and Windows. It was developed by EA Black Box.

The game is based around tuning cars for street races, resuming the Need for Speed: Underground storyline. Need for Speed: Underground 2 provides several new features, such as a broader customization, new methods of selecting races, the "explore" mode (just driving around freely, similar to Grand Theft Auto, in a large city known as "Bayview", which heavily resembles Los Angeles) with a hint of San Francisco and Las Vegas locations like the Casinos and Red and White radio tower on the mountain. Underground 2 also introduces several SUVs, which could be customized as extensively as other Underground 2 vehicles and used to race against other SUV racers. Brooke Burke is the voice of Rachel Teller, the person who guides you through the story.

When you think of city-building game franchises, chances are pretty good that The Settlers isn't the first name that springs to mind. Although German developer Blue Byte may have been topping the charts in Europe with these sedate simulations of medieval life for nearly 15 years now, the series has never gained the stateside prestige of something like Sim City or even Caesar. But this second-rate status might be coming to an end with the latest addition to the line. The Settlers: Rise of an Empire is the most fulfilling game in the series, adding easy-to-play charisma to the usual Middle Ages economics and trimming much of the micromanagement that made playing past releases in the series as much fun as doing your homework.

Despite the aggressive subtitle, gameplay here compares more closely to building an ant farm than it does to building a real-time strategy empire. As with previous Settlers games, the focus of the solo campaign is a mix of stereotypical city building with traditional Age of Empires-like resource gathering and soldier recruitment. Most of your efforts continue to be centered on developing a medieval city, which means you spend virtually all of your time constructing resource-gathering huts, erecting castle walls or gates, and trading with neighboring villages. read more

Many of the developers at Petroglyph got their start at the now-shuttered Westwood Studios, the birthplace of Command & Conquer, the seminal real-time strategy game that helped to introduce the world to the popular formula of building huge bases and armies to crush your opponents. Therefore, it's not too surprising to find Command & Conquer influences in Universe at War: Earth Assault, the upcoming game from Petroglyph and publisher Sega that deals with an alien war raging on Earth. We had a chance to play a work-in-progress version of the game to check out how this war of the worlds is shaping up. Please note, the following contains slight spoilers to the story.

The single-player game in Universe at War is notable because there's a single-player campaign, as well as single-player scenarios. The campaign lets you follow the game's story, while the scenarios let you alternate between a global real-time strategic mode and real-time battles. The global view divides the world into large territories. You must capture a territory by defeating enemy forces in it. Once a territory is under your control, you can build different facilities in it. For instance, you can dedicate a territory to resource gathering, which provides you funds to purchase additional structures and units. Or you might dedicate a territory to unit production, which will let you churn out new units there. This is similar to other overarching strategic modes in other games, though Universe at War differs from most by having this all take part in real time, not in turns.

Before our first look at The Golden Compass, the upcoming Sega action adventure game based on the upcoming New Line Cinema film, we had never read the original source novel from which both are being drawn: Philip Pullman's outstanding The Golden Compass. Soon after seeing the first game, however, we cleared up that problem and, boy, are we glad we did. Still armed with the experience of having read Pullman's excellent fantasy novel, we've got higher expectations than ever for the game that bears its name. Today, Sega was showing off a slightly expanded look at the training mission that starts off the game. The mission features the star of the story, Lyra Belacqua, and her friend, the mercenary panserbjørne (that's fancy talk for huge, armored, talking polar bear) Iorek Byrnison.

For those who aren't familiar with the first game, Earned in Blood puts you in the shoes of an American corporal in World War II named Joe "Red" Hartsock. Hartsock was one of the thousands of US Airborne troopers who dropped in behind enemy lines the night before the Normandy landing in France. The story and the campaign are based on the real-life stories of Hartsock and his mates as they fought across the French countryside in those critical first two weeks after the invasion. For those of you who did play Road to Hill 30, Hartsock's name might ring a bell. That's because he was a character in the first game. The storyline in Earned in Blood overlaps that of Road to Hill 30, so you'll get to see Hartsock's point of view, as well as his experiences during the same time frame. As you'd imagine, much of the game is played from a flashback perspective as Hartsock is debriefed on his experiences by a superior officer. The in-engine cutscenes used to advance the story before and after missions are as heartfelt and impactful as they were in the first game, with the voice actor depicting Hartsock doing a fantastic job of conveying the emotion you'd expect from a war-weary soldier.
