Lest We Forget

Thanks tomorrow for all who served, all who died, and all who protect us today. Remembrance Day reminds us why any of us are free, and why many of us are alive, and the West is still able to fight against tyrants today.

Remembering WW2, I give thanks especially for my great uncle Grenville Stanley, the brothers Kierstead, my Grandfather George, and all later generations of my family who have served & supported the Canadian military.

I have no problem with his expressing his views– rather that he says one thing, and does another, and says one thing to his naive audiences, and very much another to those “In The Know”.. rather in the mode of the religiously approved lying allowed in militant Islam, where you can deceive the infidel for the higher purposes of spreading the faith, and dominating the world.

We’re Infiltrated

Already, Canada is host to a lot of stealth-Jihad groups, open terrorism, and sympathizers for the takeover of this country and the world by Islam, polygamy, honour-killing, shariah law, and the full program. They are hiding in the open, and in Canada-free enclaves of religious law and anti-Canadian principles.

We’re just not supposed to notice or say anything about all that, because, well, it would be rude or something– and political correctness labels critics of militant anti-Western Islam as racists, Islamophobes, right-wing nutjobs, and haters. After all, calling conservative people nasty names will solve everything, in the never-never land of liberal smugness.

Infidel Whiners?

Apologists for Tariq will say that we’re just picking on him because Western crusading infidels are afraid of articulate and attractive Islam as represented by the photogenic Ramadan. I’d say let the facts speak for themselves, and anybody who tries to argue “You’re only saying that because..” is avoiding the real issue.

In North America, we must work hard to keep our eyes tightly closed and our heads up our butts to avoid this reality, and listen to the comforting lies of our media, and the smooth lies of Islamic-group spokesweasels, lulling us back to sleep. Reality might be scary, or demand something of us, or remind us we’re in the middle of civilizational conflict.

I’ve dealt with tragedy, breaking bad news, and helped others deal with disaster (SwissAir 111 crashed near a former parish).

So when President Obama actually took time to give a shout-out before talking about the deliberate Islamofascist massacre of 10 and the wounding of 30 others at a U.S. military base? “After two minutes of smiling, pointing and dithering… Barack Obama finally got around to mentioning the massacre at Fort Hood in Texas.” His wiring is off– he’s half-baked.. clueless.. emotionally disconnected from his actions and from reality.

The guy’s a from-childhood-deeply busted nutcase sociopath, or my name is.. well, never mind that.. and he’s running the world. It’s all fun and games in a James Bond movie or Austin Powers– but this guy is in charge. Real world.

And watch for the usual suspects to lie and obfuscate and good intention themselves all over the Ft. Hood massacre.

It’s an unjust, unnatural, cruel and yucky religion when practiced and lived as the lunatic Mohammed actually taught & lived it. There, I said it. ~ THE THING ABOUT the Pythons, or the various Oxford comedians of the last generation like Peter Cooke, or even of Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie– they are smart, well-educated people. Michael Palin and Terry Jones have both done a variety of TV series, and written books. Hugh Laurie is an amazing singer and musician generally, and a very smart man.

The strange part about The Pythons or Stephen Fry is this: despite their education, intelligence, and sometime-willingness to lampoon society, they are largely missing in action when it comes to the Jihad, the Free Speech Wars, defending British principles, or even standing up for the Western literary, dramatic, and philosophical tradition,which at least they– unlike the last 30 years of university students– have known and benefitted from.

Being clever, adorable, funny and the rest doesn’t add up to much, unless it also means you stand for things that matter when it counts.

So hats off from Binksmeister HQ to someone like Rowan Atkinson (of Mr. Bean fame) who has stood tall for free speech over the years. Shame on many other comedians for being over-the-top when nothing is at risk, and not defending the true and good or important principles when it could cost something.

And although Stephen Fry has not stood tall for Britain, he has used his fame to try and help various folks. And yet, I can’t disagree with Edward Michael George:

“His transition from hugely talented, witty, self-effacing sceptic to twee, clownish, self-absorbed luvvie is complete and the mere sight of him makes me cringe. So the cultural elite of the once-great England (heck, most of Britain) have bent the knee to cowardice, mere twee cleverness, political correctness– or else kept quiet and invisible, for fear of public unpopularity or vilification, and the loss of money and fame. Easier to be radical, rude, enviro-correct, and all the other easy ways that lead to destruction.

Let’s hope the UK may rise again in faith, spirit, and true good humour. ~

In the memorable 80’s TV-show Max Headroom– a dystopian sci-fi future– everybody sits in front of the TV, all day long. When terrorists want to threaten civilization, they cut the cable, and everybody starts fighting, going insane, and calling the cable company.

Reality is often boring, unpleasant, and unamusing.. TV and the X-Box 360 and the DVD and the laptop and the big screen are powerful mojo, forming our children, our teens, taking our time, and years of our lives. Mind you, there’s education, distraction, comfort there for the lonely and ignored, alongside avoiding family problems and malforming souls & consciences, short attention spans, and killing tons of time.

In the big picture of the last 60 years, TV and related offspring media are one of those ginormously obviously blingingly huge things that change civilization. After all, it’s easier to feel all brave watching some imaginary hero conquer evil than to go and do the same ourselves; to weep at some chick flick than work and love our imperfect family aright; to feel digital exaltations and joys rather than those that come from loving and serving God.

From inside the glowing rectangle you’re now staring at, I’m just saying is all. ~

The ever-growing pile of manure issuing from this White House is already so mountainous, it’s hard to get below the surface layers of manure. This presidency needs a forensic audit, and a complete judicial review. No RINOs or Leftard Dems needed on the panel.

Since this neo-faith is blind to human evil, and the causes of sin and conflict and the seven deadlies and all that– exteriorizing it all on Them– it’s a sweet intoxicant, because it lest us be good with no inner change or sacrifice. Smug, justifiably busy-body, intolerant, and always right: that’s heady stuff.

Reality is best. Utopianism is not about reality, or the actually possible, or the good and true.

For the hateful communist/ socialist theory, the worst folks are the contented bovine ‘bourgeois’– you know, the self-satisfied prosperous middle-class, working hard and building families and paying taxes, and seeking occasional pleasure out of life. The workers? The revolutionary fodder. The rich evil fat-cats? The evil capitalist monsters who oppress and exploit the workers and keep the stupid bourgeois happy and sleepy, etc., and so on.

So the bureaucrats and government betters in question decided to use immigration as a weapon, and immigrants as projectiles, to damage and cause change in Great Britian. You know, ‘cuz is totally evil and corrupt and imperialistic and yada yada.

Feel the hate, the heartless cruelty, the palpable venom towards ‘the little people’, and towards much of what made the UK a good and generous and polite society, and the mother of democracy in the modern world.

It’s just the same old grim evil of the human heart, envy and wrath and contempt and pride, exercised by those in power on their victims. Such radicalism is not simply bullshit– manure is essentially a good thing, and gives new life and enrichment to soil and fields and crops. Modern radicalism is rather more like toxic/ poisonous/ corrosive hyper-radioactive waste, with no good purpose or effect when splattered around on society. Satan’s own misery, enriched.

The people responsible for the deliberate wrecking of British society and exploitation of immigrants should be exposed, tried, and punished. People, society– heck, all of Western Civ– are not mere playthings in the hands of heartless faux demi-gods. Human Rights commissions, nanny-state departments, radical academia and politics– it’s all bent toward the same hellish destructive ends.

That’s why all those old homes have wide doors or big front windows.. so the coffin could be brought in. Young & old, all did their duty of paying their respects, and understanding death within the wholeness of life.

Our sex-bored culture neither grasps death, nor comprehends sex and sexuality and gender any more, having taken both out of the context of family, and the true rhythm of birth, life, death, judgement, heaven or hell. It’s not even paganism– it’s despair, disgust, worldliness with no hope or grasp of the inner depth or outer forms of life, pleasure, or death.

Modern man is, truly, becoming like undead zombies or vampires, driven by insatiable hungers, neither truly alive or dead, cut of from redemption and resurrection and the true satisfaction, completion, and exaltation proper to our place in God’s infinite purposes of love.

Bra-a-ains? Blood? We must seek what we seek, but not where we seek it as St. Augustine said; he who in his own life, mind, and heart, embraced and bridged the great moral, spiritual and philosophical gap of the ancient pagan hope, seeking after truth, and the gods. “The hopes and fears of all the years” as the Christmas Carol puts it, meet in Christ, the desire of all nations and hearts, though they may not want or know him.

How may we truly live, so we may rightly die? The question, or the sorrow of ignoring it and thus our true selves, does not go away for the avoiding of it. What true waste, to be born asleep, and to die dreaming.

Our destiny is greater than that. ~

As I’ve already said, whether Swine Flu is more fluff than doom-bug, this major-scale stupid by the public health folks, the government, and the medical system bodes ill for a serious emergency, disaster, bio-terror attack, or real plague. I’m not taking chances with this one, in the hopes that it won’t possibly wipe me or my boys out.

The Nanny-state only works under ideal conditions. Each of us needs to fight for ourselves and our neighbour, and be ready to protect and survive as needed. ~

~ SO IF THE H1N1 SWINE Flu is seriously bad, we’re in real trouble locally.

The other day, 1000 people stood outside in the late afternoon chill trying to get into the the local firehall, some waiting up to 5 hours for the Swine Flu clinic inside to slowly process folks (registration, shot, 15 minutes wait for adverse reaction). A lot of those folks didn’t get in.

So the next morning, as I got the regular flu shot, I asked my GP doc Whisky Tango Foxtrot? Turns out it’s SNAFU.

Instead of doing the at-risk population of kids through the schools, then most other folks via their doctors (no registration needed), with a mop-up of clinics for others, there’s a long-waiting line clinic thing, with no shots presently available at the GP’s office, nor school clinics. Whisky Tango Foxtrot? This is bass-ackwards, putting kids and young families at risk, and making clear that in case of a more serious civil, bioterror or other emergency, we want better brains running things.

The local doctors are being largely kept out of the loop for some reason.

D+, and trending downwards.

And for all the sceptics, given my general rotten health-luck, I’m bloody likely to get uterine cancer, let alone avoid Swine Flu.

Huzzah For Boobage!

~ GOD MADE BOOBS. And behold, they were very good.

Speaking as a happily married man, I say hurray for them, of all sorts and manners, and in mystical meaning, art, the Bible, and culture.

However, endless warm-fuzzy Breast Cancer propaganda? Zzzz.

Consider: if abortion and birth-control pills and hormone treatments and less breast-feeding and silicon implants and fewer kids and nuclear materials and chemicals in food & the environment have anything to do with the rise of it, yes it’s terrible and all: but it’s a pick your consequences thing, right? Revenge of The Boobage, when not used as required, chemically treated, or exposed to poisons and abuse. Our bodies are environments, too– even if we want to pretend we’re masters of our physical, moral, and spiritual destinies. The boobs know better.

And men get sick, too: no such glut of cuddly propaganda or massive health spending. Can you imagine little prostate magnets and t-shirts and car antenna foam things? Dancing prostates in a commercial? “Turn your head and cough” jingles for public education?

Into the bin, too, the idea that all folks with breast cancer are all chipper happy brave fighters and all, keen to share their heart-warming stories in a women’s magazine. The ones I’ve pastored were just bloody glad to be done with it, put it behind them, get the prosthesis, and live life. Others? Dead. Still others? Sad, feeling maimed, and making the best of it.

That we’re doing some good for sick folks while studiously ignoring possible cases is sad, and destructive of lives: just like feminism is the enslavement of the modern female mind, the sexual revolution and contraception is the enslavement and punishment of female bodies. That’s the rest of the story.

And it would get better if we were all enslaved by Muslim law.

Now, social conservative that I am, I agree that the balance between law and license is rather out of whack in the West– and that the social environment might be improved by better laws. Now, those laws are grounded on the legal tradition of Rome and Greece, and the spiritual foundations of Judaeo-Christianity. Islam is rather more like Mormonism– a kind of social conservatism, grafted onto a crazy religion.

In any case, the nitwits who write to me with the “See? you suck!” argument get it backwards– sin and evil don’t go away with sharia-police, beating women, and forcing them to wear bags on their head. As in the socially conservative anti-porn totalitarian regimes of Nazi Germany and Societ Russia, such lesser evils do not justify a greater evil. The rpbolem of evil within the human heart, and of evils in the world is not solved by such simplistic assertions as “Convert!”

After all, Jesus promises crosses for his followers, suffering in love, and life rising from death. No magic panacaea, or instant fixit.. redeeming the evil within and without by God’s own life shared with us.

As for dying, we all must. But there’s no need to be evil and nasty about it, Iddddd.

Islam: where we cheerfully massacre infidels and bystanders, but that whole “killing for no good reason” thing is kept on the down-low (or at least out of the news, or blamed on something else).  Good luck with that advertising campaign.

~ A NEWS-AGGREGATING blog is neither fish nor fowl, internetishly speaking. Back in the day, I remember being told that such work wasn’t real blogging. The journalist in question meant well, but he didn’t get it.

News aggregating like I do it? (1) Introduces good websites to other bloggers; (2) summarizes a load of news; (3) surfs a wide range of sites; (4) keeps folks abreast of stories in a quick and simple way; (5) shapes the news, insofar as journalists, other websites, and the general public use the blog as a resource.

Nothing sweeter for this blogger/ aggregator to see good blogs and/ or new websites getting much-deserved attention via bloggers reading my site.

The other thing is that even if my commentary causes brain hemorrhages and a decline in civilization, the sensible and best of the best links to good commentary more than makes up for it all. Plus, as I read good stuff, I get better at adding my own commentary and summaries to news issues.

As I read Deb’s onsite reactions and comments, it reminds me that Ms. Lynch also has some sort of conflict resolution company, or something, at that this was a presentation by her in that mode.. calm (at least on camera), smiling, positive body language, making eye-contact, keeping it positive, all the human-management “techniques” used by some people to get what they want, or resolve conflict and such. Her patronizing  “All’s Well” trope didn’t seem to convince many of the panel-members, especially given Professor Moon’s confident and coherent warnings about Section 13, and the information which some on the committee had read (probably in Ezra’s book), about what the CHRC minions had been up to.

For Mrs. Lynch, I’d guess this was a grit-your-teeth and bear it sort of thing.. but if all is well, then why exactly has this public conversation arisen, gotten into officialdom, and is being seriously and rationally discussed around the table, even if some of the members seem to be mostly chair-warmers? From the skittishness of the online video feed, I’d also say it was being watched and pondered by more than the blogosphere.

Take the time, via SDA Matt’s capable hands, to re-watch the video, and try and figure out what’s really going on, behind the public positions and such. Why? Because it’s our freedom, and that of generations to follow now under debate, and if the Mizzes Lynch & Hall & Daley and company have their utopian way, we will all be– as in England– under 24/7 watch for words, behaviour, and whatever else they deem it worth erasing our freedom to protect us from.. when they themselves and their paranoid politically correct mindsets are the biggest potential threat to our civil society, free speech, as  our Canadian rights and duties.

The Parliamentary show is a shadow-play, where the figures being cast are not as they appear, and the real battle and threats are not being addressed. So far, so good, in that under the leadership of Ezra, Mark, and other brave Canadians in parliament and elsewhere we have advanced the fight to this point.

But once the newbies acclimatize, they may well bring much of worth into the Roman fold, as long as they realize that swimming the Tiber means going to the battle-front of the spiritual war within and against the church, not retiring to some peaceful haven where all is well. The theological, moral and liturgical Marxist-socialist radicals who have shaped modern dysfunctional fake Christianity? Most of the big movers and shakers are Roman Catholics.. mind you, the recovery is strongest in the Roman Church as well, now that the fever has broken.. a fever that in the protestant world is literally laying waste whole swathes of churches and denominations.

For example, it is estimated that the Anglican Church of Canada– the fastest-shrinking denomination in North America, unless there is some suicide church out there somewhere– will cease to exist as a church by 2035. Liberal churches do two things really well: shrink, and die. Minus billions of investments, the Episcopal Church of the US would be bankrupt, and unable to afford the pricey lawsuits against their own people for resisting the revolution.

Rome (and Orthodoxy) are the real thing.. protestantisms (there are 30 000+) are means of grace, and not outside the redeeming purposes of God, but these are short rations when God means for his people to enjoy the fullness of the feast. ~

~ AS I WATCH Mrs. Lynch on CPAC, I’m struck by the apparent smug bureaucratic self-satisfaction (she’s in her happy environment of paper and meetings), and the fact that the law– as applied– is primarily for Caucasians in English Canada.

Full disclosure: I’m a white Anglo-Catholic Scots-Dutch-German-English-Portuguese-Moldovan middle-aged male. You know, one of the bad guys. So powerful that with a few words, I could start race-riots, a new holocaust, you name it. Only the stalwart agents of the HRC are holding back the countless tsunamis which threaten to destroy Canada at any moment, in the twinkling of an eye.

Leftard post-war Liberalism slavishly followed the Moscow lead & historical re-interpretation of the 20th century– so Nazism was remade as a uniquely bad kind of ultra-badness, so dangerous that it must be outlawed forever. That Communism and National Socialism are both Leftward movements, twin utopian brothers in a death-struggle, the latter of which had lead to more deaths than World War II?– no Russian Schindler’s List so far out of Hollywood, because Communism, Marxism, and utopian statism are the operating programs of the Western elites, the EU, and the UN, and the mindset behind Human Rights regimes.

Section 13 would not protect us from a new Hitler; nor would it protect us from a new Stalin or Barack Obama. It ‘protects’ from cranks and hacks and basement Nazis. Given the complexity of the internet (such that Jihadists, organized crime, arms smugglers, drug dealers, illegal pr0n-purveyors, human trafficking groups and others find it tremendously helpful), it is the evil and stupid ideas themselves that need exposure and destruction, not the nerd who gets his jollies. Mind you, were I to espouse the Great Leap Forward, the collectivization of the Kulaks, or the punishing of the Ukrainians, no doubt I’d not have HRC agents seizing my computer, nor bankrupting me and exhausting me over years, were I found allegedly guilty or not.

Think on’t– many immigrant communities are racist towards other minorities, or the majority, or to despised sub-groups within their own circle.. but that’s “Family business” that rarely makes the news, or the enlightened utopians of the HRC. Or again, if you are a proud supporter of Hamas, you can march down Toronto streets saying the worst possible things against Jews and Israel… but it’s not hateful, it would appear. If you’re a super-fundamentalism Imam from Toronto or Montreal, you can revile women, gays, Jews, unbelievers, or whomsoever you wish.. and it won’t be tribunalized. Pro-terror Sikh? It’s all good. Armenian-hating Turk? No worries! Native Canadian agitator making hateful threats against your neighbours? No problem whatsoever. Radical prog protester of any colour? Fill your boots! Quebec Separatist English-hating bully? Go for it. Anti-semitic, Israel-hating student? Cowabunga. Politically correct minorities may and do hold politically incorrect views, and publicly proclaim the same: that’s just fine.

“Ordinary Canadians do not need to fear for their freedom of speech?” saith HRC HRH Lynch today. Oh really?

Whitebread pastor quoting the Bible? Beware. Caucasian teacher opposing same-sex orthodox? Your job is on the line. Jewish lawyer? 900+ days and $100K gone forever. Anglo-Belgian Canucki-American author? Millions paid out by your employer, months of effort, heartbreak, time away from family and friends and regular work. But, says Mrs. Lynch, it’s all good, the HRCs are wonderful, no wrong’s been done, we have nice processes, it’s all about balancing freedoms, and don’t confuse us with the petty details about the little people caught in the gears of our awesomely fair and just and ethical machinery. So far, it’s all about bashing, harassing, bankrupting, and silencing social and political conservatives, and particularly Christians. And lots of moderate and sensible folks agree, and have expressed their concerns.

HRH Lynch has a right to have her say: but she’s not acted like a Civil Servant in all this, but as a defender and sponsor of utopian statism, where top-down control of thought and speech is the harbinger of an uncivil unfree society, where an ever-changing list of alleged verboten speech and ideas is ruled beyond the pale, and illegal. The polite peaches and cream nice-girl routine doesn’t cover up the nature of the thing.

That progressive Canadian Jews, apparently represented by the Canadian Jewish Congress, should back such social engineering in an imagined war against a potential army of Canadian neo-Nazis? Erm.. you might want to keep an eye on Muslim immigrants and their mosques and Imams, folks.. and the overweening claims of the state to regulate speech and religion. Sad & stupid. Mein Kampf? A Middle-Eastern best-seller. The next holocaust? Check in with Iran.

We’ve got injustice and imbalance masquerading as good law and politics. We’re in the same suicidal boat the the EU, just 5-10 years behind them.

This is not over, and the battle to reform the HRCs and ditch Section 13 is still underway. Stay tuned, keep fighting, and don’t settle for the status quo.

So: radical Toronto Imam Said Rageah recently gave a speech in which he referred to “kuffars”.. the equivalent of “filthy Jew” or “Effing N*gger”, except referring to all non-Muslims as worthless and dirty infidels. When criticized for this, logician and super-genius Said insists the following:

“…on Friday, Imam Rageah said the word is mentioned more than 500 times in the Koran and it would make no sense for Allah to have used a word repeatedly that was so offensive.”

It’s all about the Alien Space Bananas, right? Allah is God; the Koran is his direct word, via Mohammad his alleged Prophet. Thus, if it’s in the Koran, it’s Allah’s word, so it couldn’t possibly be bad. It all makes perfect sense.. in a closed logical system, where the original premises (Allah is God, the Koran is his only true word) are taken for granted, not proven or even considered as logically obvious first principles– even if Allah apparently says petty or unjust things.

However, if a hateful Allah allegedly calls unbelievers snarky names, logic at least allows us to ask (i) is there a God? (ii) Is Allah God? (iii) is the Koran his word and (thus) is Mohammad really Allah’s prophet?

I’d say that the arbitrariness of this assertion (God said it, so it’s OK, no context needed, no interpretation possible) is part of the essential irrationality of Islam. Allah as depicted by Muhammed is irrational, changing his will and laws and edicts largely in accord with the convenience and demands of Mo himself– whether it’s slaughtering Jewish allies, getting plunder, taking dozens of women including relatives and children as wives, or whatever else.

Though the accusation is often unfairly made against Christianity, it seems that it’s really super-genius™ Mr. Rageah’s revision of Islam that insists you to park your brains at the door. Those inconvenient facts may trickle down years later after the global climate-hysteria industry milks a few more trillion out of the world economy, and people can reluctantly admit that the last bandwagon was the wrong one.. but here’s a new one to jump onto!

Anything but the real God is, after all, the abiding message of the history of Israel: that pesky prophets and truth are fine, but child sacrifice and nature deities and the worship of human power are rather more what all the cool people (plus the Joneses) are doing.

Footloose? False freedom from false enemies, meant to flatter and distract us from the reality of our actual enslavement, and would-be masters.

As I see it, this latest from Pope Benedict and the Vatican signals an end to a 500 year experiment in state-enforced religion.. now become a laughing-stock and ecumenical embarrassment for hyper-liberal Western provinces, ever pandering to the latest Leftist radicalism and special-interest group. Only classical Anglican Christians are forbidden in the new Church.. you know, those crazy people who obsess about God, Jesus, right & wrong, the Bible and suchlike ancient silliness.

The good news here is that for those Anglicans who’ve not already converted to Orthodoxy or Western Catholicism, or some protestant denomination, that they may remain faithful to Christ, and stop being tortured for being faithful within the rotting body of modern Anglicanism, bus still hang onto the good things of Anglican Christianity– dignified worship, powerful hymns, good order and common sense, deep spirituality and profound intellect.

Forward Into Our Pasts

When people from the British Isles ponder their pasts and their roots, they must remember that for 1500 years and more, their ancestors were part of ancient Christianity,Celtic or Roman; and that for all of us– English, Scottish, Welsh, Irish– this is the root of our lives, our civilization, our better selves. The conversion of ancient paganism to Christianity was the harnessing of mighty human and spiritual energies towards the good, the redeeming, the creative and transformative, through Jesus Christ the saviour of the world.

The failure of faith does not lead us to some godless utopia– it raises the bloodthirsty old gods, our worst natures, the powers of darkness and domination. The dark blood-gods may come with fancy new names, bureaucratic neatness, and fresh-sounding excuses– but Nazism, Communism, the culture of blood and death and all the rest are where we end up in rejecting God, history, and faith.

As for this decision, Michael Coren writes:

“All sides will now claim that they are friends but the truth is that the leadership of the Church of England is outraged that the decision was “sprung on them” and fear an exodus of some of their most active and, of course, generous followers. In Rome and in a few Catholic dioceses there are still some of the old guard in power who regret the Church’s new determination and orthodoxy and do not look forward to legions of new, informed and devout Catholics. But this is a coalition of the unwilling and the unable who have had their day. The future belongs to something altogether more vibrant and exciting. As for Fat King Henry, he must be rolling in his enormous grave.”

As an Anglican priest, I’ve long wondered if the Lord was not removing the candlestick of the Western Anglican Church– taking away his blessing and grace and life from it– insofar as it had turned its back on him. This might be one of those signs.

Hurray for Benedict XVI, and for a church showing mercy to fellow Christians in a time of turmoil and trouble. May God bless Rome through these new converts; and may the pilgrims find that they have truly returned home after years in the wilderness. ~

~ AWAKEN, SMELL COFFEE– The moral and intellectual vacuum of the modern university has been on display this past week. At McGill, some students– including their council– refuse to allow a free and open exchange of ideas on the deliberate killing of preborn humans. Instead, they shout down a lawfully held meeting.

At Temple University in the US, students protest Geert Wilders for presenting uncomfortable facts about the Jihad facing Eurpe and the West.

Among the demonstrators was Megan Chialastri, vice president of All Sides, an organization that seeks to promote peace between Israel and Palestine. “We feel student groups should not bring people on campus that jeopardize the safety, or just the way people feel on this campus,” she said.

“Or just the way people feel on this campus?”, is it? Words fail. Or are stifled by student thugs. McGill, Temple, UGueph, UCalgary, St. Mary’s U, and the list lengthens.

Some will say we should hearken back to the free-wheeling 60s, when all sorts of ideas were freely discussed. Nonsense: all sorts of radical ieas were freely discussed; classical liberalism, Judaeo-Christianity, Greece and Rome were off the menu, except as straw men, or spicy appetizers for Hinduism, Marxism, Orgasmism, and Ganjaism. As Jonah Goldberg has demonstrated in his book Liberal Fascism, the 60s student uprisings were just that: revolutions of self-righteous fascistic idiots against their elders, the established order, against goodness and truth, dead white men, and the very idea of a university. It was indeed the closing of the American (and Western) mind, not a rebirth, as author Allan Bloom clearly saw it.

Untruths & Consequences

The fruit, 40 years on? Ideological thought, via entrenched geezer demagogic radicalism in faculty and administration and the wider academy; political correctness and intellectual disability to deal with even the most basic assertions or logic or non-spirit-of-the-age ideas and principles. Or, just the way “people feel on this campus”, having suckled at the teat of Marxist egalitarianism, statism, radical politics, gender theory, multicultism, and hence the predictable skulls full of compliant mush.

Not all universities are like his, nor all professors. But this parent will not be dumping his kids into a bubbling stew of costly radicalism, and expecting well-educated civilized people out the other end. With modern education, you don’t get what you pay for unless you really look around and dig for the good stuff, the better places, the good profs and programs. Even if some collection of buildings was once your alma mater and the seat of good memories, don’t take it for granted that the buildings have the same content or intent in 2009: choose wisely, unless you like throwing away time and money and children. ~

~ ITEM: Modern man a wimp says anthropologist

~ THERE ARE ALL SORTS of longed-for and inspiring golden ages, and dreams about them. Oddly enough, some modern wimpy men dream about the good old many days. Mind you, here at the Binks HQ, our neighbour is an olde fashioned fellow– hard working, loves to chainsaw, does heavy construction work. Mind you, a lot of urban and uppity folks might look down on him, because of his lack of formal education, his unpolished talk, and general rough edges and colourful language– even as he’s putting the final touches on their new McHome. But according to Peter McAllister, he’s an ideal, it turns out.

He’s a nice enough guy, willing to lend a hand in the old manner– because as people in the country know, we stand together or fall one by one, and you lend a hand because you might soon be needing one.

I did a lot of Mr. McAllister’s type of Real Manly Work as a yoot (strong like ox, smart like tree), and my body bears the injuries, holes, and resulting wear to this day. Cuz after all, lumber men, fishermen, miners, housewives, and all the other folk of the pre-1950s rural universe worked themselves terribly hard.. to survive, and aged likewise, looking 60 in their 40s.

And most of them are glad that their kids and grandkids and onwards need not risk life and limb to keep body and soul together. It’s not especially romantic.

No doubt some of us could do with some walking, some manual labour, and general toughening up. And the conspiracy against quiet and a human pace and all that is a real loss in the age of the interwebs– but we can make some of that space by setting different priorities, and refusing to be the slave of glowing rectangles, ringing phones, and enticing computer time-wasting. ~
