Watch This Is It

Documentary films have a unique place in modern movies. They present certain facts and happenings in unique and highly pleasing manners. Direction and cinematography play the main roles in popularizing these films. This Is It (2009) is a great example of this genre, which has dealt with Michael Jackson’s preparations for his dream and final planned concert of the same name.

This Is It opens up with a short introduction, announcing the aim of this movie. When AEG and Sony promoted their plans about making a film as a tribute to the King of Pop, many fans of Michael Jackson had apprehensions about the outcome of the movie, many through that this movie will open up the controversial aspects of the great singer. But finally this movie comes up as a musical extravaganza, which has thrown a great amount of light on the final preparations of Jackson for the ‘This Is It’ tour in London. Even the rehearsals in this film will compel a person to shake his legs to the tunes of the music.

This Is It shows little signs about Jackson’s deadly discomforts during rehearsals. It shows how much he was even some days before his demise. Although he was on a rehabilitation program for his drug abuse, he hardly showed any tiredness during the preparation stage. He performed his famous dance moves with grace. Alas! Hardly anyone could realize the inner destruction of the Pop King.

We will never enjoy the magic of This Is It tour, but director Kenny Ortega has tried its best to create a sensational musical effect through this movie. He has done a praiseworthy job in limiting his attention on the musical aspects of Jackson. The movie will never match up with the on stage shows of Jackson, but has tried its best to make a package of Jackson’s final great moments. The camera hardly zooms on him. The scenes have depicted how Jackson guides his team of musicians, dancers and other members to deliver a memorable show.

Another unique feature of this film is that, This Is It has never discussed about Jackson’s death. This has maintained a pleasant feeling all through the movie. Some of the grate performances of Jackson (“Beat It”, “Billie Jean etc) have found place here. Jackson’s fascination for nature has also been highlighted here. The film comes to an end with Jackson’s extended arms with the note: “Michael Jackson King of Pop Love Lives Forever”.

This Is It has reflected the true nature of Michael Jackson. In some scenes, he is seen to show signs of his eccentricities. Overall, This Is It is a profound tribute to the legend of Pop.

The fun goes all wrong when they wake up the next day to find everything gone haywire and not remembering a tiny bit of the last night. To add to the agony, the groom to be wed is missing in action. The story revolves around four guys-Dough, the prospective groom, Phil, a school teacher bored with his marriage, Stu, a dentist by profession controlled by a strict girlfriend and Alan, the soon-to-be Alan’s brother-in-law, socially inept and mentally instable. The three guys, Phil, Stu and Alan decide to throw a bachelor party to Dough a day before his wedding in Las Vegas. The group manages to get a suite in Caesars Palace and sneak to the roof of the hotel to throw a toast. The trio wake up the next morning to find the villa in a total havoc. There is a tiger in the bathroom, a baby in the closet, a tooth from Stu’s mouth is gone and the groom-to-be is nowhere to be seen. None of them have the faintest idea of the last night. When they find Doug’s cell-phone in the room, the three begin collecting clues to get them closer to what happened. Alan finds a VIP parking ticket along with Stu’s tooth in his pocket and Stu has an $800 ATM receipt. Things become more complicated as they begin uncovering the truth.

Finding a hospital bracelet on Phil’s arm, the group heads to the hospital to obtain a potential lead in their mission to know the previous nights’ history. The doctor reveals evidence of Rufalin which explains the loss in memory. He also tells them that they came to the hospital from a wedding which gives them another clue. Joining the clues of the puzzle, they head to the chapel to learn that Stu married a girl named Jade. Stu is freaked out to hear this and wants to call of the wedding, but the owner Eddie, tells him that he needs to find Jade in order to annul the wedding. Two mysterious Chinese thugs out of the blue attack the group in the car park of the chapel and end up shooting Eddie in the shoulder. The group escapes and finally hunts down Jade to learn she is an escort and the baby belongs to her. Jade and Stu agree to annul the wedding and plan to meet up next week to see if things can go further with them. The three friends pick up their car and find a naked Chinese gangster, Mr. Chow in the trunk who attacks them as soon as released. Alan later admits spiking up the drinks thinking it is ecstasy.

The group heads back to the hotel and find Mike Tyson, to whom the tiger belongs to. Tyson wants his tiger back and the three have a tough time carrying the drugged tiger to its owner. After returning the wild beast they watch the security tape at Tysons’ and learn more of the night. They realize Dough has been kidnapped by Mr. Chow who will trade him for his $80,000 which the group is holding. All the three somehow make $80,000 and when returned to Mr. Chow, they realize some other Dough has been kidnapped and not their friend. Working their memory hard, they manage to locate Dough and get him back to his wedding successfully.

Watch what happens in the event. Gained positive reviews at the box office, The Hangover is sure to get you rolling on the floor. This movie is a perfect example of the saying, “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.” The situation the movie shows are realistic and hysterical at the same time. Rated R due to explicit content, the movie is however, a big hit for anyone with a broad sense of humor

After the super-hit blockbuster, Ice Age and Ice Age: The Meltdown, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaur is sure going to be another hit. A new life is forming in Ellie. The birth of a baby mammoth leaves Manny anxious to ensure everything is perfectly in order for when his baby arrives. Diego, the sober-toothed tiger is being treated like a house cat. Being with his pals, he is becoming a sober cat unlike the wild cat, once upon a time. Sid the sloth, in pursuit of creating his own family, steals some dinosaur eggs which leads him ending up in a world where dinosaurs roam free. Her herd now has to rescue him for the dinosaurs. Scrat is still holding on to his beloved acorn and finds romance in a female saber-toothed squirrel named Scratte. Dodging dinosaurs and coming face to face with dangers, left-right and centre, the herd meets a one-eyed swashbuckling weasel named buck, who skillfully hunts dinosaurs.

The movie, apart from fun and entertainment is a celebration of parenthood. With Manny and Ellie having a baby mammoth coming and Sid becoming the mother (oh wait! Isn’t he suppose to be a father, owing to his gender?), Dawn of the Dinosaurs is a gift for every mother (and their kids). The best part, Scrat will finally have a new obsession- a new found love.

Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Queen Latifia, Chris Wedge and Simon Pegg have done a fantastic hob offering their voice to the characters. The movie is a must watch for every child and parent for a promising time of entertainment.

Meanwhile, the students are being attacked by yet another issue. Teenage hormones are raging across the rampart. Harry’s friendship with Ginny is turning into something deeper, but Ginny’s boyfriend Dean Thomas and brother, Ron, appear to be a road block. Ron however, is entangled with his own romantic worries with Lavender Brown lavishing her affection on him, which leaves Hermione boiling with jealously, yet determined not to reveal her feelings to him. And, if this was not enough, there is a box of love-portion laced-chocolate which ends up in the wrong hands and changes everything.

As romance blossoms in Hogwarts, one student is busy dealing with far more important matters in his mind, keeping himself aloof to the rest. A dark plan is on his mind. Love is all around, but with tragedy fast approaching, Hogwarts may never remain the same again.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, dives into hormones and danger. It gives us many parts to look forward to-comedy, romance, suspense and good versus bad. This movie offers a lot more humor than any of the previous Potter films. Director David Yates and screenplay writer Steve Kloves have done a fantastic job complimenting the book and made sure that it captures the key tone of, “something bad is coming, it’s now the time to grow up.”

Released by Warner Bros. Pictures, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is rated PG for scary images, a bit of violence and mild sensuality. The movie is a must watch for all Potter fans and non-Potter fans. I however, liked the first Potter series the best, but still, this is a good watch.

Already grossed tons of money at the box office, the movie according to me is a cynical tale advertising giant robotic toys and is completely soulless. A big action flick with giant robots is all that this movie offers. The story can be ended by simply saying, two giant robots battling it up on Earth, with the humans getting involved. The special effects and music are awesome though.

Transformer: Revenge of the Fallen, is a sequel to the 2007’s Transformers, directed by Michael Bay with Shia LaBeouf reprising the role of Sam. Sam is the human caught in the war between Autobots and Decepticons. The story revolves around the Autobots and the Decepticons. Starscreams has assumed command of the Decepticons and has decided to return to Earth with all force. The Autobots however, believe peace is possible. But Megatron’s dead body is stolen from the US Military by Skorpinox who revives him using his own spark. Now Magatron is back seeking revenge.

As Sam is packing his bag to college, an ancient object drops out of his belonging and a series of complex symbols is transported into his brain. Sam is obsessed with getting these symbols out. Whether Sam is in the middle of a class or in his dorm, he is maniacally scribbling the symbols. The school has heard rumors of giant robots but Sam denies it. But of course, he knows there are giant robots.

With the two hours of ear-splitting, robot-on-robot action, one will probably feel they have been in a war themselves. The movies shows pieces of robot trying to hump someone’s leg, a male dog humping another male dog, robot brothers acting like morons and lots of giant robot scrotum jokes.

The movie also reveals a lot of Megan fox’s curves. In the first shot, she is shown sitting seductively over a motorcycle doing a custom paint, wearing skimpy top and micro-tiny shorts. The movie is best suited for audience above 15.

The entire movie makes Purvis and his squad look incompetent as Dillinger and his gang outwit Purvis at every stage with wild chases and shootouts. But the good guys have to eventually win and the chase has to come to an end, right?

I was actually filled with boredom as the movie targeted to its end. I expected a vibrant movie from Bale and Depp. The chase sequence got kind of repetitive and unending. Many scenarios were unbelievable. Like Dillinger manages to pick a woman randomly from any bar, who he has never met, yet convinces her to quit her job and go on the run with him. Johnny Depp’s work as Dillinger is remarkable, but Bales forced accent was quiet distracting and felt like he overplayed himself. The movie, an art film and a crime film may not give the audience anything emotional to hang on to, but the beauty and skills of the film making, keeps you tightly in its grasp. Mann’s attention to the minutest detail, his insistence that every detail be authentic, including the clothes and the historical locations, lend a sense of rightness to the entire movie watching experience.
