As a leader who has a home based business, be it in network marketing, direct sales, real estate investing, etc., a large part of success has to do with leadership abilities and personal development. No matter what the business is,it would be quite an accomplishment to build it so successfully to catch the attention of Warren Buffet as business partner!

Let's take a look at the business principles the furniture and appliance company, R.C. Willey practiced so successfully that it attracted Buffet and resulting in his buying it in 1995 for a hefty 175 million dollars.

The key, it seems, was effective leadership practiced by CEO Bill Childs. Here are the 8 key management principles practiced by Childs on a daily basis:

1. Build a reputation for excellence. Bill Childs made it a practice to exceed customer expectations and standard retail practices. As a result, he earned the loyalty of not only customers, but also their friends and neighbors when they shared their stories. His customer base steadily increased as a result of this.

2. Strive to offer the best services and products and not at the lowest price. Customers always remember poor product quality long after the money saved from a low price. Therefore, always offer your best.

3. Treat potential customers as equals and friends and not as targets. Make this a goal. Offer solutions to their problems. People remember how they felt when they make a purchase as much as they remember the product or service brought. In other words, build relationships.

4. Shun debt. Debt can turn into an inescapable trap in a recession when sales slow and profits no longer cover the operating costs. Both Buffet and Childs believe the risks of debt are not worth taking. It's too bad Wall Street didn't take this principle to heart!

5. Don't force employees to do things they don't want to do. Instead, try to convince them that they want to do those things. For those in mlm, this would be your downline. In other words, find their motivation and appeal to it as Harry Brown would say.

6. Learn the little details that shape your customer's experience. Child's talked with his shoppers and found out their likes and dislikes. Their priorities became his own. For instance, he discovered that moms with young children formed their opinions about a business based on the restroom's cleanliness. Therefore, Child's made sure all his stores restrooms were spotless. It sounds like Child's became an expert listener. So, build up your listening skills.

7. Make your advertising stand out. Bill Child's discovered that if a company's ads are the same as competitors', the advertising costs would be wasteful. He learned how to brand his company in a way to reach new customers and markets. As a result, he created a highly profitable business.

8. Embrace change. Any business must change to keep up with a changing world. Keeping ahead of the competition and keeping the business from becoming stale is a must. Bill Childs never let himself believe he found the perfect formula for he clearly understood what works great today may not work tomorrow. The lesson here is to never stop learning and growing.

Acquaint yourself with people or other bloggers who are also in the same field as yours. More than anyone else, these people will be the ones who will appreciate your blogging efforts.

3. Use social bookmarking sites.

Digg and Del.icio.us and myspace popular bookmarking sites that improve the viral marketing potentials of blogs. If you post a link worthy blog post, get them posted to those social bookmarking sites and if the readers from those sites find your post bookmarkable, you will be deliciously dugg (pun intended).

Those tips should arm you well enough on how to go about your viral marketing with your blog feat.

Business Opportunity Leads-Two Great Opening Questions for Our Presentations

Everyone knows that to have a growing mlm business, we as well as our team members need to make sure we have a steady stream of prospects to share our products and/or opportunity with.

In order for us to be successful with this, we need to have skills. In today's post, Tom, Big Al, Schreiter, mentor to thousands, will share two great opening questions we can use as we talk to people.

Hi - Tom "Big Al" Schreiter here.

Q. “Would you invest $1,500 monthly for six months to start and establish your own business?”

I like this question. It not only gets a commitment from our prospect for a money and time investment, it also gives our prospect a realistic vision for six months.

The $1,500 monthly investment sounds like a lot.

But, if a prospect really wanted to open any business, the requirements would be much higher. Just think how much it would cost for rent, a rent deposit of several months, employees, training, utilities, fixtures for the business, insurance, advertising, etc. A regular business would cost tens of thousands, or maybe hundreds of thousands to start.

Of course, if the money commitment was too large for our prospect, we could reduce the requirements by asking for more sweat equity and effort on his part, and less of a monthly money commitment.

Anyway, by the time we asked for $200 for a distributor kit at the end of our presentation, the $200 would appear to be small compared to the $1,500 original monthly commitment we mentioned.

Want another great opening question for our presentations?

Q. “Before I tell you about this business opportunity, let me tell you what concerns me. My concern is that when I finish, you will like what you see and hear, but you may have difficulty allocating the money from your budget. So, let me ask you now, can you budget an extra $150 a month if you think this business opportunity will change your family's financial future?”

Getting the $150 commitment up front is not to pre-sell our prospect, but to relieve our prospect of the fear of making a big investment. If we give our entire presentation and let the money issue come up last, what will our prospect be thinking during the entire presentation? He will be thinking, "How much is this going to cost me?"

Why not take this fear away from our prospect by telling him up front just how much this is going to cost? He can then concentrate on the benefits of our presentation without this nagging fear in the back of his mind.

My new distributor was complaining: "This #!*@ business doesn’t work!!!"

And my new distributor was right. The business doesn’t work.

So I had to tell the new distributor a story. :)

You look for the best car for you, and you purchase the car.

But, you never learn how to drive your car.

You never take driving lessons, you never go out driving with your parents, you never read the owner’s manual. You don’t know about those strange pedals on the floor or where to put the key into the ignition.

The only thing you do is make a few attempts at "trial and error" ... you yell at your car and say,

“Drive! Drive!” And your car doesn’t drive itself.

But, you have a vision board ...

So, you looked for a network marketing business that was a good fit for you.

You purchased the business and joined.

But you never learned how to make your business work.

The only thing you did was make a few attempts at "trial and error" ... you said the wrong words to a few friends and two cold leads.

And your business didn’t build itself. Your business didn’t work.

* You didn’t come to Saturday trainings.

* You didn’t do three-way calls with your sponsor.

* You didn’t listen to any training CDs.

* You didn’t come with your sponsor while your sponsor went prospecting.

* You didn’t learn how to give a "One-Minute Presentation."

* You didn’t learn "SuperClosing" or any other closing.

* You didn’t learn about the "Colors" ... the four different personalities and how to talk to them.

* You didn’t learn any effective "Ice Breakers" or openings.

* You didn’t learn how to get prospects to beg you for presentations.

* You didn’t learn any effective first sentences.

* You didn’t learn how prospects make decisions in their minds.

* You didn’t learn how to get unlimited appointments.

* You didn’t learn how to stop sounding like a sleazy salesman.

* You didn’t learn any of the "sequences of words" to communicate directly with the prospects.

* You didn’t learn how to use the differences between needs and wants.

* You didn’t learn where and how to locate the best prospects.

* You didn’t learn how to create prospects instantly with effective sentences.

* You didn’t learn the sequences of words that the top leaders use.

* You didn’t learn how to open a presentation.

* You didn’t learn how to build instant rapport with anyone.

* You didn’t learn how to use word pictures.

* You didn’t learn how to talk directly to the subconscious mind of the prospect.

* You didn’t learn why prospects tell you "no" when they should be agreeing with you.

* You didn’t learn the first things you must say to cold prospects.

* You didn’t learn how to locate and create leaders.

* You didn’t learn how to motivate people.

* You didn’t learn how to get your prospect’s unconscious mind to work for them.

* You didn’t learn how to use stories to bypass the two mind filters of prospects.

* You didn’t learn how to quickly capture your prospects’ imagination and attention.

* You didn’t learn how to ...

So stop blaming the business.

The business doesn’t work.

You work.

Don’t blame the "stupid" prospects, the weather, the economy, the product pricing, the compensation plan or your sponsor.

If you want to drive the new car you purchased ... learn to drive.

Network Marketing Lead Generation-How to Build Rapport With Prospects

As a network marketer, have you ever found it difficult to to know what to say to your prospects?

Have you ever floundered around and then felt like a total idiot when the conversation was over?

I think all of us has been there at some point.

In a recent email, Tom Schreiter discussed how to solve this problem and what is the best way to build rapport.

How to Build Rapport With Prospects by Tom Schreiter

Hi - Tom "Big Al" Schreiter here.

A subscriber wrote this to me:

"I see people in the mall, on the street, and everywhere I go. But I don’t feel comfortable talking to them. I want to talk to them, but I don’t know what to say to introduce my business."

While this subscriber was asking for a magical ice breaker statement, there is a bigger issue here. The subscriber was hesitant because she was jumping past the important first step.

Here are the four steps again:

1. Create rapport. (This is the step she is missing.)

2. Ice Breaker. Introduce your business into the conversation.

3. Close.

4. Then the "One-Minute Presentation" or "Two-Minute Story" after the prospect has made the mental "Yes" decision.

Each of us, when we start, jump to step #4. And that's ugly.

But once we find out about the other steps, things get easier.

So think about the rapport skill. Have you mastered it yet? Can you create total rapport, even with a stranger, in just five or six seconds? If not, work on that, and the whole problem of not being comfortable goes away.

For those who are unsure of how this process works, I recommend they read or listen to "How To Get Instant Trust, Belief, Influence and Rapport! 13 Ways To Create Open Minds By Talking To The Subconscious Mind."

Why? Because it is full of word-for-word, usable skills on how to build instant rapport with prospects. Any prospect. Any time.

And that is the problem, isn't it? It goes like this:

1. We don't build instant rapport.

2. The prospect folds his arms and turns off his mind.

3. We say great things about our business and products.

4. The prospect doesn't BELIEVE us.

5. We get endless objections, procrastination, and sometimes an outright "No!"

* It doesn't matter how good our product is if our prospect doesn't believe us.

* It doesn't matter how good we are at closing if our prospect doesn't believe us.

* It doesn't matter how good our video is if our prospect doesn't believe us.

Yes, it all comes down to this. We have to get our prospect to believe the good things we say.

Get a copy of the book or audio now, and start using and teaching this important first step to your team. Business is easier when cold prospects become warm prospects instantly.

Home Based Business Opportunity-Is Flash Success Real?

I am sure you have heard the stories. People who have never done mlm before or another home based business opportunity and after a few months, they are wildly successful and build to the top of their opportunity.

Here is the question? Does this ever really happen? In today's post, Tom Schreiter explains what the true story really is.

Flash Success.

Flash success in network marketing is rare. And when flash success occurs, there is usually a reason.

Many times you'll hear a speaker at a training or opportunity meeting state, "I just joined, talked to a few people, and by golly, in just one month I reached the top level of achievement and now they need a truck to deliver my giant-sized bonus check."

Well, what the speaker said may be true. She did reach the top and it was fast. Unfortunately, because of time constraints on the meeting, the speaker didn't get to tell the whole story.

You see, the reason the speaker sponsored such a big downline in her organization in only 30 days was:

1. She had 20 years of experience in network marketing. She had lots of contacts, relationships and friends who knew her, trusted her, and respected her. Since they also were experienced network marketers, they were able to sponsor many distributors quickly also. The speaker had 20 years of preparation for this so-called "one month flash of success."

2. The speaker went door-to-door in her city and everyone she talked to joined her program. Too bad there wasn't enough time during the meeting to mention that her mother was mayor of the town, owned all the houses, and that the tenants felt obligated to do whatever her daughter suggested.

3. The speaker worked as an assistant teacher for 40 years in the community. She also taught junior high sports. Everyone in town knows her, trusts her, and respects her. In fact, she taught most of the town's residents. How could you say no to the person who used to make you clean the erasers?

Instant, flash success?

I don't think so.

You have to earn your success in network marketing. That's why some people grow faster than others.

So, if you don't have any friends, people hate you, no one respects you … well, you'll just have to start building some new relationships to get your business started. Once you've built the relationships, your business will grow.

Networking is done with people who trust you. If you don't have anyone to network with, go out and build some trust. And if you don’t know how to build trust and relationships, invest a bit of time and read this book, or listen to the audio version.

Innocent questions that help prospects make decisions - now! by Tom Schreiter

I’m sitting across the prospects’ kitchen table. They are afraid to make a decision.

They’re thinking:

"We don’t want to make a mistake."

"What if we make the wrong decision?"

"Let’s think it over and delay any decision until we have to."

"What if we fail?"

"Maybe we should just take our time thinking about this."

And they’re thinking . . . and thinking . . . and thinking. Oh, if they would only make a decision, any decision, it would be wonderful. I could go home. They could get on with their lives.

But no. That would be too easy. The prospects insist on torturing themselves with indecision. They don’t realize that "not making a decision" is really making a decision to keep things just as they are.

For example, the train is pulling into the station. You don’t know if you should board the train or not. So you think, think, think . . . and soon, the train has already left the station. Your indecision actually made a decision:

You’re not going to be on that train.

You and I know this. Our prospects don’t.

Our prospects don’t realize that when they delay making a decision about our business, they are effectively making a decision to keep their lives the same.

And keeping their lives the same is okay. It’s just that they should be consciously making that decision.

So here are a couple of questions that you can ask your prospects. They’re innocent, non-aggressive questions. These questions will help your prospects make a conscious decision on what is best for their lives.

1. What will happen if you don’t join our business?

Of course the answer is:

"Nothing."

But you don’t answer that question. Let the prospects mentally answer that question for themselves. They’ll probably be thinking this:

"Life will be the same. Tomorrow will look just like today. We’re going to wake up early, commute to work, come back late, grab a quick meal, watch a few minutes of television and go to sleep. Yep, we’re going to go through this routine over and over again – until we’re too old to work."

Not a very pretty picture, is it? Now if the prospects choose to leave everything the same, if they choose to avoid your opportunity . . . that’s okay. They are making a decision. And that’s all we ask.

Want a few more questions like this? Try some of these to see if one fits your style.

2. If you don’t start your own business now, do you see yourself always working for someone else?

3. What do you think will happen next year if you decide not to make any changes this year?

4. Do you think your job routine (five days a week, two weeks of vacation every year) will ever change?

5. I see that you’re kind of stressing out about risking a change in your daily life. Why not just relax and enjoy your life as it is?

6. You don’t have to make a decision to start your own business tonight. Instead, you could simply make a decision to not start your own business and keep your present job routine.

7. You know, you might be thinking, "My daily routine isn’t so bad. Maybe I’ll keep living this way." And that’s also a good decision. Do you think that might be best for you?

All of these questions remind our prospects that the pain of their problems won’t go away by putting off a decision.

So make it easy for your prospects.

Help them make a conscious decision about their future.

And remember, this technique is rejection-free.

We’re not attached to the outcome.

We’re not responsible for the decisions they make in their lives.

We’re only obligated to give our prospects the choices.

The rest is up to them.

For those in mlm, everyone knows the best way to continue to build their business is to always have fresh leads so they can share their products or business opportunity

One of the best ways to do this is to provide valuable content rich which in turn will drive traffic to your websites.

In an article entitle, "101 Different Types of Web Content for Building Your Business", Thomas Armitage describes how this works.

Thomas says "We keep hearing it over and over again: “Content is King. Content is King.” And it’s true.

Content is the single best way to drive people to your website today. Various types of content, strategically connected to your brand, can work wonders in capturing the attention of consumers and leading them in your direction, but you have to provide some sort of value. Teach them something. Entertain them. Do something that makes it worth their while. That’s where you have the opportunity to tell them about your brand and what you can do for them.

I always encourage my clients to create boatloads of great content. That’s when they say: “Well, we already blog, so what more can we do?” Ahhh, yes. I’m so glad you asked. Because in fact, there are actually 100 more things you can do.

Every rep knows that in order for their business to grow, they must learn how to generate leads. Even better, most reps would like for their lead generation efforts to be free or very low cost.

I am one who likes to keep things simple. In a recent email from Tom Schreiter, he shared how learning to say a few simple things can greatly help a distributor in their efforts.

It was good stuff so I thought I would share it with you.

"Why your prospect worships the ground you walk on and wants to join your business now!" by Tom Schreiter

As network marketers, we lead sheltered lives. We don’t have to take the latest abuse from an illiterate boss or evil employer. We don’t have to beg on bended knee to get afternoon off.

But our prospects? Ouch. They are taken advantage of daily.

Commuting through traffic is taking longer and longer. Their lives are spent working and commuting with very brief visits with the families.

Their employers have very sophisticated strategies to squeeze more work and more hours from their employees without increasing their salaries. Plus, why not give them extra work to take home to get that last ounce of energy from them?

And when the annual review comes, the boss tells the employee:

"Thank you for your hard work and overtime. However, no one is getting a raise this year. Times are tough. There is an economic crisis. But when we do give raises sometime in the future, you’ll be at the top of the list."

And then the boss drives away in his new BMW to meet his friends for a three-hour lunch.

Your prospects know that they have spent $100,000 on a college education to get a job that will be taken away from them a few years before they qualify for pension benefits.

They are constantly taken advantage of, abused by greedy employers, forced to commute long hours, and they get just enough salary that they can’t afford to quit, and they can’t afford to do anything else.

And now you arrive with a solution.

Your prospects are pre-sold!

The only thing you have to do is to not "talk them out of it" when you present your opportunity.

Now, everybody knows you can’t sponsor prospects using the wrong words, but what are the right words?

That’s the difference between hard-working, broke networker marketers ... and network marketing professionals that go from successful experience to successful experience almost effortlessly.

It’s the words we say.

Now, if we want to do network marketing as a hobby, a fun activity, or as a chance to buy a product wholesale for our mother, it really doesn’t matter what we say. We can just enjoy ourselves as we have no income expectations or needs.

However, if we want to do network marketing as a business, make a really good part-time income, a full-time income, or even the big money in our business ... then there is only one path to take. To learn the "sequence of words" to instantly get our message inside our prospects’ brains.

There are certain words and phrases that clearly communicate our message and go directly into our prospects’ brains, and our prospects will believe in and understand what we do.

So let’s not talk our prospects out of their dreams.

Instead, let’s give them a chance to see what we see, and allow them to live the dream of network marketing.

Bottom line? Say the right words.

Jim Rohn is one of my favorite people to follow when it comes to personal development. In a recent email, he shared how all of the knowledge we need to help us become healthy, happy, sophisticated, and successful is already written in these books. The question is, why are we not taking advantage of this?

Why You Should Read All The Books by Jim Rohn

All of the books we will ever need to make us as rich, as healthy, as happy, as powerful, as sophisticated and as successful as we want to be have already been written.

People from all walks of life, people with some of the most incredible life experiences, people that have gone from pennies to fortune and from failure to success have taken the time to write down their experiences so that we might share in their wealth of knowledge. They have offered their wisdom so that we can be inspired by it and instructed by it and so that we can amend our philosophy by it. Their contributions enable us to reset our sail based upon their experiences. They have handed us the gift of their insights so that we can change our plans, if need be, in order to avoid their errors. We can rearrange our lives based on their wise advice.

The important question is this: In the last 90 days, with this treasure of information that could change our lives, our fortunes, our relationships, our health, our children and our careers for the better, how many books have we read?

Why do we neglect to read the books that can change our lives? Why do we complain but remain the same? Why do so many of us curse the effect but nourish the cause? Those who wish for a better life cannot permit themselves to miss the books that could have a major impact on how their lives turn out. The book they miss will not help.

Reading is essential for those who seek to rise above the ordinary. We must not permit anything to stand between us and the book that could change our lives. A little reading each day will result in a wealth of valuable information in a very short period of time. But if we fail to set aside the time, if we fail to pick up the book, if we fail to exercise the discipline, then ignorance will quickly move in to fill the void.

Those who seek a better life must first become a better person. They must continually seek after self-mastery for the purpose of developing a balanced philosophy of life and then live in accordance with the dictates of that philosophy. The habit of reading is a major stepping-stone in the development of a sound philosophical foundation and is one of the fundamentals required for the attainment of success and happiness.

Free MLM Leads-Why It Takes True Fans To Get The Results You Want

One of the goals of every mlm entrepreneur is to have a steady stream of leads, mostly free ml leads if possible. Now days, most people also use social media strategies to work on connecting with others.

In a recent post, Michael Hyatt wrote an excellent article in which he outlines why it takes true fans to get the results you want. I hope you follow his advice as you look to build your business.

The Key to Success Is Better Relationships, not Bigger Lists-by Michael Hyatt

In our direct-access economy, there are few assets more valuable than a good email list. But what qualifies a list as good?

The first answer is usually size. We base our value judgment on how many people are on the list. It’s the same for social media metrics. The more the merrier.

But not so fast. Reach is not the same as influence.

In my recent Best Year Ever product launch, I found that affiliates with the biggest lists did not necessarily get the best results. Many could not motivate their people to buy. At the same time, several affiliates with smaller lists had higher conversions and crushed affiliates with huge lists.

I’ve seen the same thing in publishing. An author might appear on paper to have a significant platform—big social media numbers, a large email list, and so on. But numbers don’t always add up to action. Sometimes an author’s new book would release, and people on their lists didn’t seem to care.

Why the disconnect?

It comes down to three factors: investment, trust, and expectation. Whatever our business, if we miss these factors, we’re not going to get the results we want.

1. Is Your Audience Invested in Your Message?

Several years ago Kevin Kelly, the co-founder of Wired, posted an article called “1,000 True Fans.”

The idea is simple. Most creators won’t see blockbuster success. But they can see enough success to sustain a profitable business if they cultivate 1,000 True Fans.

“A True Fan is defined as someone who will purchase anything and everything you produce,” says Kelly. “They have a Google Alert set for your name. … They can’t wait till you issue your next work.” In other words, they are invested in your message, whatever it happens to be.

Investment equals response, and that’s critical when building a list because subscribers who aren’t invested won’t move the needle. The affiliates with smaller lists drove more sales because their audiences cared enough to respond when they spoke.

2. Does Your Audience Trust You?

Trust takes investment up a notch. True Fans buy because they trust. After all, sales is more than attention. It’s attention plus authority. If you have attention but no authority, you won’t convert clicks to cash.

What the smaller affiliates in the Best Year Ever launch lacked in size, they made up for in trust.

When they say a product is worth buying, their audiences believe it and act on it.

Trust comes down to one question: Can I count on you? If audiences can rely on high-quality content and recommendations that interest them, then even a small list can churn big numbers. The affiliates with smaller lists drove more sales because their audiences could count on the their recommendation.

But there’s still another factor.

3. Does Your Audience Expect to Buy?

Even though they had high investment and trust, some of the affiliates had trouble making the conversion because their audience did not expect the product pitch, the price, or maybe both.

True Fans are happy to buy when the offering fits their needs. Not everybody on a list is a True Fan. So when they see a pitch they ignore it. Some are even offended by it.

And this is exactly why the size of the list is almost irrelevant. A person with a small list of people who expect to buy from time to time will see far better results than a person with a massive list of people who expect everything for free.

The important thing is to train followers to expect the pitches. The job is to turn lesser fans into True Fans, as Kelly says. It takes time and practice, but eventually you can find and cultivate relationships with people who love to buy what you create.

Everybody knows that to earn more, they must become more. As entrepreneurs, we know that one way to do this is by investing in personal development.

There are a number of mentors I enjoy following when it comes to my personal development. They include Tom Schreiter, Art Jonak, Zig Ziglar, and Jim Rohn.

I recently received a Jim Rohn newsletter which discussed how to achieve your dreams. As usual, it was excellent, and I thought it was well worth sharing with others.

I sincerely hope it will encourage you as much as it did me.

Achieving Your Dreams

A lot of people spend most of their lives struggling to earn a living, and a much smaller number seem to have everything going their way. The smaller group is busily working at building and enjoying not just a living but a fortune—everything just seems to work out for them. And here sits the much larger group, wondering how life can be so unfair, so complicated and unjust. What's the major difference between the little group with so much and the big group with so little?

Despite all of the factors that affect our lives—like the kind of parents we have, the schools we attend, the part of the country we grew up in—none has as much potential power for affecting our futures as our ability to dream.

Dreams are a projection of the kind of life you want to lead. Dreams can drive you. When you allow your dreams to pull you, they unleash a creative force that can overpower any obstacle in your path. To unleash this power, though, your dreams must be well defined. A fuzzy future has little pulling power, and well-defined dreams are not fuzzy. Only wishes are fuzzy. So to really achieve your dreams, to really have your future plans pull you forward, your dreams must be vivid.

The people in the smaller group had big dreams. They had ambition. They didn't focus on the hardship of getting up the mountain. In their minds, they were already on the other side. Despite all of their pains and struggles, those who made it to the other side had a vision. Their dreams were stronger than the obstacles in their way.

You've got to be a dreamer. You've got to envision the future. You've got to see the finish line while you're running the race. You've got to hear the cheers when you're in the middle of a monster project. And you've got to be willing to put yourself through the paces of doing the uncomfortable until it becomes comfortable and until you realize your dreams.

MLM Training Tips-How Social Media Slows the Business

Today's mlm training tip has to do with how social media can slow our business down. I know this sounds strange, especially when we hear a lot about how some people are successfully using it to grow their business, but the truth is there is a good side and bad side to it.

Tom Schreiter puts it in great perspective. And as usual, he is right!

So how hard is it to talk to "live" people? by Tom Schreiter

Network marketing is person-to-person, talking to a "live" human being. So why do new network marketers make it so hard?

They want to start with strangers, because they don't know what to say to people they know. Not sure if strangers will appreciate them not knowing what to say.

So what do they do?

They post on social media, and then spend weeks writing content for their blog. They set up a squeeze page that sends people to a landing page that uses an opt-in box to put them on an autoresponder sequence. Then, they send email messages until the person goes and watches a teaser video, and hopefully will leave their details to be contacted.

And then, finally, the new networker can make that phone call to this low-quality lead and hope not to get rejected.

I sat in the audience about 20 years ago when Michael Clouse said, "I go into Starbucks, sit down near the door, and start a 'live' conversation with a 'live' person."

Michael bypassed all the filters, hoops, and social media, and just went and talked to a "live" person. Pretty neat.

But people say, "Well, that person in Starbucks ... how do you know that person is interested?"

Of course that person is interested. Almost everyone wants more money and a better life. That person is just as interested, just as qualified as the low-quality lead that put some information on a form.

But isn't just talking to people "old school?" Yes. It is so much more efficient than spending weeks and months for a chance to talk to a lead.

But isn't social media, having 5,000 Facebook friends that don't care, a modern way to do network marketing? Well, if delaying talking to prospects is modern, yes.

"But I heard of someone who made a fortune just buying an Internet course and sending out emails!" Well, could be true. Ask yourself if you have the same skill set, the same relationship with a mailing list, etc. as that person.

Now, I am not saying, "Don't use social media." What I am saying is that many new distributors hide behind computer screens, avoid talking to "live" people, and delay the start of their business.

Our business is talking to "live" people, so we want to get on with it as soon as possible. And the cruel truth of all of this is: If we spend weeks or months to get a chance to talk to a "live" prospect, we still have to talk to that prospect.

Quickly learn how to talk to prospects, and your business will grow faster.

My next book describes a way to get pre-sold prospects to come to you, but like social media, it takes time. So what should you do first?

Confusing presentations.

There are two times when a prospect is confused about a network marketing opportunity.

Before the presentation and after the presentation.

While we are talking about the wonderful company, the wonderful industry, the wonderful products, the wonderful training and the wonderful compensation plan, our prospect normally isn't listening. What is the prospect thinking?

"How long will this last?"

"Are you a salesman?"

"When are you going to get to the point?"

"How much is this going to cost?"

"How can I be sure I will be successful?"

So how can we overcome this problem?

Using a "One-Minute Presentation" or a "Two-Minute Story" or even better presentation techniques can help. We want to give the complete overview of the decision first. Why?

Ask yourself, "When do prospects actually make their decision?" And if we observe properly, the decision happens quickly - in the first few seconds. So that is why we should manage this time to our advantage.

What is the best way to improve our skills here? Simply record the first 60 seconds of your presentation and ask yourself, "How would I respond if someone told that to me?"

"If you aim at nothing then you will hit it with surprising accuracy every time."

So how did you start this morning? Did you have a clear focus on exactly what you wanted to accomplish today? For example:

* Start a relationship with one good prospect before noon.

* Eat lunch with your best prospect.

* Pass out five samples to five quality prospects.

* Have two new guests at tonight's opportunity meeting.

Or, did you avoid building your business and became a "manager?" For example:

* Checked your back office three times.

* Took pictures for a new brochure idea.

* Started yet another Facebook group for people to hide in, avoiding prospecting.

* Listened to an extra motivational CD.

* Checked your email inbox six times.

* Posted funny quotes at social networking sites.

Management mode is dangerous. Our building stops, our momentum stops, and our downline duplicates management mode.

Today's network marketing tip has to do with how to handle those negative relatives. Let's face it, we all have them. If we choose to listen to therm, they can put a real damper on our business.

However, it does not have to be this way if we learn the skills to be able to talk successfully with anyone, including the negative relatives.

Today's tip is from Tom Schreiter and he outlines nicely how to overcome this problem. If you follow his advice, negative relatives can turn into potential customers or even reps.

Negative relatives.
You have heard them say:

"You are just trying to make money off me!"
"It's too good to be true."
"These things don't work."
"Call me later, after you are rich."
"There is always a catch in these schemes."
"It's a pyramid."
"You have never been successful before, so why should I listen to you?"

Relatives can be so cruel. It is almost like they have been practicing negativity all their lives.

But what is really happening inside of their minds? Maybe this conversation is going on:

"Yes, of course I would like more money in my life. And yes, of course I think people want better health, better skin, better travel, better prices, etc. However ... I don't believe what you are telling me."

There is a skill that we must learn if we are to become successful in network marketing. That skill is how to get prospects to believe the good things we say. You see, we all say good things. That's the easy part. But getting others to believe and trust us is a bit harder.

Now, getting more good things to say won't fix that problem. Instead, we have to learn how prospects decide in their minds to trust and believe what they are told.

Today's business building tips has to do with what questions to ask your prospects to help them reach a decision regarding whether or not to take advantage of your business opportunity or product. Sometimes, it is not easy for them to do so; they can be quite indecisive which is normal!

Our job is to help them make an informed decision by asking the right questions. You may be wondering what questions might those be? Thankfully, Tom Schreiter has the answer. If we do what he suggests, our prospects will feel quite comfortable in making a decision very quickly.

So, let's sit back, take some notes, and listen to what Tom has to say.

Innocent questions that focus prospects to make decisions - now! by Tom Schreiter

I'm sitting across the prospects' kitchen table. They are afraid to make a decision. They're thinking:

"We don't want to make a mistake."

"What if we make the wrong decision?"

"Let's think it over and delay any decision until we have to."

"What if we fail?"

"Maybe we should just take our time thinking about this."

And they're thinking ... and thinking ... and thinking. Oh, if they would only make a decision, any decision, it would be wonderful. I could go home. They could get on with their lives.

But no. That would be too easy. The prospects insist on torturing themselves with indecision. They don't realize that "not making a decision" is really making a decision to keep things just as they are.

For example, the train is pulling into the station. You don't know if you should board the train or not. So you think, think, think ... and soon, the train has already left the station. Your indecision actually made a decision:

You're not going to be on that train.

You and I know this. Our prospects don't.

Our prospects don't realize that when they delay making a decision about our business, they are effectively making a decision to keep their lives the same.

And keeping their lives the same is okay. It's just that they should be consciously making that decision.

So here are a couple of questions that you can ask your prospects. They're innocent, non-aggressive questions. These questions will help your prospects make a conscious decision on what is best for their lives.

1. What will happen if you don't join our business?

Of course the answer is:

"Nothing."

But you don't answer that question. Let the prospects mentally answer that question for themselves. They'll probably be thinking this:

"Life will be the same. Tomorrow will look just like today. We're going to wake up early, commute to work, come back late, grab a quick meal, watch a few minutes of television and go to sleep. Yep, we're going to get this routine over and over again - until we're too old to work."

Not a very pretty picture, is it? Now, if the prospects choose to leave everything the same, if they choose to avoid your opportunity ... that's okay. They are making a decision. And that's all we ask.

Want a few more questions like this? Try some of these to see if one fits your style.

2. If you don't start your own business now, do you see yourself always working for someone else?

3. What do you think will happen next year if you decide not to make any changes this year?

4. Do you think your job routine (five days a week, two weeks' vacation every year) will ever change?

5. I see that you're kind of stressing out about risking a change in your daily life. Why not just relax and enjoy your life as it is?

6. You don't have to make a decision to start your own business tonight. Instead, you could simply make a decision to not start your own business and keep your present job routines.

7. You know, you might be thinking, "My daily routine isn't so bad. Maybe I'll keep living this way." And that's also a good decision. Do you think that might be best for you?

All of these questions remind our prospects that the pain of their problems won't go away by procrastinating on a decision.

So make it easy for your prospects.

Remind them to make a conscious decision about their future.

And remember, this technique is rejection-free.

We're not attached to the outcome.

We're not responsible for the decisions they make in their lives.

We're only obligated to give our prospects the choices.

The rest is up to them.

MLM Training Tip-I Am Just Curious-Is It Ok to Talk, Talk, and Talk Some More

We have seen it many times. New distributors who are very excited about their mlm opportunity and talk, talk, and talk more to anyone who will listen about the income potential, products, and services.

While it is nice to see these folks passion, what usually happens is that the majority of the people they talk to end up saying "no". This causes our new downline member to feel really rejected and wonder what they did wrong. They then wonder who can they talk to next.

The truth is, there is nothing wrong with the reps desire to share and talk with others. This desire just needs to be channeled in the right direction which simply is learning the skill of what to say to cause prospects to lean forward.

Talk, talk, talk, by Tom Schreiter

We all love to talk, talk, and talk more about our business opportunity and products, but the problem for new distributors is that they don't have anyone to talk to!

Once the new distributor talks to all of his family and friends, then the problem of who to talk to becomes serious. Distributors say:

"Where do I find good prospects?"

"Where can I find people who will listen to me?"

"How do I get strangers interested?"

So they go out and try to talk to strangers, and because they are untrained, because they say the wrong words ... they get rejected. Then what?

After experiencing rejection after rejection, the distributor feels bad. Your distributor has common sense. Your distributor figures out that the only way to stop the rejection and pain is to stop talking to people. And then the distributor becomes inactive.

The upline then thinks, "How do I motivate my downline? How do I get them to duplicate?"

The upline is asking the wrong question. The distributor is not unmotivated. The distributor stopped saying words that didn't work, but has no new words to substitute. So this isn't a motivation problem, it is a training problem. The upline has to teach new words that work to the still-motivated distributor.

Where can we find good prospects? by Tom Schreiter

And that might be totally the wrong question.

The reality is, most prospects are neutral ... until they meet us. And when they meet us, what we say causes them to become a good prospect, looking for reasons to join ... or a bad prospect, looking for reasons not to join.

Yes, we literally create good prospects.

So the question is not where to find good prospects, but rather how we create good prospects.

I say that I want to lose weight. But, talk is cheap. There is an old saying, "You should never believe what people say, but only observe what they do."

And that applies to how we talk to ourselves. Yes, we can talk a good story to ourselves, and maybe even fool ourselves, but in the end, we will have to admit the reality.

For example, even though I say I would like to lose weight:

* I haven't invested in any exercise equipment.
* I choose to eat at Mexican buffets with my friends.
* I consistently eat more calories than I burn.
* I avoid any weight-loss classes and books.

You could accurately conclude, "Big Al" loves to eat with his friends more than he wants to lose weight.

So how do you feel about your network marketing career? Does your career suffer from the "Big Al" fat syndrome?

* How much have you invested in learning new skills?
* How much time have you invested in creating new relationships?
* Do you surf the Internet instead of talking to new prospects?
* Do you choose to stay home instead of attending the convention?

Same story, isn't it?

Life is about choices. And, you may have chosen to do network marketing as a hobby or as part of a community. That is okay. We can't do everything professionally. For example, while I choose to do network marketing professionally, I also choose to do dieting as a hobby.

There are no right or wrong choices on what we want to do professionally. However, it is important that we are truthful with ourselves by not believing what we say, but by simply observing what we do.

Today's network marketing tip has to do with leadership; how to find leaders. After all, everybody knows in mlm, if you have about 3-4 people on your front line who are on fire and building big, you will receive a nice check. The question of the day is, where can these people be found?

The truth is, very few people will find an Art Jonak, Michael Dlouhy, Tim Sales, Randy Gage, or a Tom Schreiter right away. True leaders develop because of us. Even the Tom's, Art's, and Michael's did not start off hugely successful. It took time and having to learn skills.

While its true it's up to us to build leaders, we also don't want to waste time helping people who don't really want it. How can we tell whom we should work with?

In a recent article in Tom Schreiter's "Big Al Report", he shared the importance of taking people through what he calls the "leadership test". If you don't know what that is, read on. Following Tom's advice will save you lot of time. So read and enjoy!

So why the Leadership Test?

I wasted a lot of time in my first 11 years of the business trying to build leaders. I wasn't very efficient. I tried to teach and help anyone who wanted to learn.

But there is an old saying, "Don't believe what people say, only believe what people do." I bet my mother told me something like that, but I didn't listen.

After 11 years of working hard to build leaders, I met a man named Tom Paredes, who said, "Before you invest time in teaching someone to be a leader, give them a test." If they past the test, only then do you start teaching them the step-by-step skills.

Ouch! And he was so right. From that point on, building leaders was a lot easier. We have to be open to new ideas and new ways to build. Even today, I get the best ideas from others. I take leaders to lunch and listen to their best techniques, I go to conferences, and I constantly test new and better ways.

I feel sad when I hear a distributor say, "Well, I stopped learning in high school, and I certainly don't want to start up that learning thing again."

The bottom line? Build leaders, and service distributors. Huge difference in how fast you will build your team.

Lots of great emails from networkers who are reading, "How to Build Network Marketing Leaders Volume One: Step-by-Step Creation of MLM Professionals." Why?

Apparently, there really isn't another network marketing book specifically on the step-by-step methods of taking a new distributor, and then molding that distributor into a self-sufficient leader.

When I started network marketing, I had no idea what to do to build better leaders. So I wasted a lot of time telling them to be positive, write their goals, get motivated, etc. But hey, when we start our business, we just don't know what we don't know. We learn as we go.

Jerry Scribner told me how he was going to use the book. He was going to use the leadership book as the leadership test. This is embarrassing. I didn't even think of that.

Today's network marketing tip has to do with responsibility. Sometimes, after we have been with a mlm company for awhile and are not achieving the results we desire, we may want to blame our sponsor.

True, our sponsors do need to make sure we get started on the right foot, but is it really fair to blame them if we seem to be failing once we're trained?

Don't blame your sponsor ... yet by Tom Schreiter

When we join network marketing, it is important to understand the responsibilities of our sponsor, and the responsibilities we have to ourselves.

Our sponsor is responsible to give us things such as:

* A few "ice breakers" to help us easily get presentations.

* A "One-Minute Presentation" so we can look professional in explaining our business.

* Some opening sentences to prospect our warm market without risking objections.

* A fool-proof sentence or two to get appointments.

If our sponsor gives us a few of the basic skills above, then what are some of our responsibilities?

* To consistently prospect to build our business.

* To invite prospects to meetings, three-way calls, two-on-one appointments, etc.

* To study and attend trainings to learn the skills to be a professional network marketer.

* To take personal responsibility for our success.

It is a two-way street. We can't expect our sponsor to do it all for us.

Once our sponsor gives us some of the basic skills, it is up to us. We can whine and complain that we have no one to talk to, that no one will listen to us, that we don't know what to do ... but it is our business.

Our choice to abandon responsibility and to invest in self-sabotaging thoughts is our decision, not our sponsor's decision.

We will have to take the initiative to learn and solve these problems in our business. It's not our sponsor's responsibility to make us successful.

Network Marketing Tips-Getting Leaders on Your Team

Everybody knows that most people who are very successful in network marketing have a handful of leaders who want it more than they do and who generate the most income.

The question most of us may have is how to find those leaders who want it more than us. Thankfully, Tom Big Al Schreiter, can help us out. Tom is a gentlemen who knows mlm very well and who built a downline of over 100,000 back in the 70's, the pre-internet days. We could say that Tom knows his stuff!

Getting leaders on your team by Tom Schreiter

What's the difference between leaders and non-leaders? Is it looks? Money? Contacts? Charisma? Great hair?

No. The difference is the six or eight inches between the ears. Leaders are the same as everyone else, except they think differently.

If leaders think differently, if they have different attitudes and viewpoints, why not teach these thinking patterns to your distributors, eh?

Here is what I recommend and why.

I have about 25 basic skills that I want my leaders to understand, believe, and live. If I can teach them these skills, everything else works.

Now, here is what you can do. Write down the 25 or so skills that you want your potential leaders to understand, believe, and live. Then focus your development training on transferring those skills.

For example, wouldn't it be nice if your distributors believed that:

* "Problems are always with us. Let's just get on with doing our business." Or . . .

* "My obligation is to notify everyone I know about my opportunity. They don't have to listen or join, but at least they should have the chance to hear about it if they wish." Or . . .

* "Prospects will join me; not the company, the products, the fancy brochure, etc. I must have information and skills that prospects want."

Teach skills like this to your distributors and soon you'll have leaders.

But what if a leader had no plan, no agenda, no training, and just hoped to be their friend and hoped that magic happened? What if that leader hoped that one day lightning would strike and his new distributor would automatically think and act like a leader?

I would say, "Bad plan."

I think that leader should hope for a lot of thunderstorms.
