Choosing An Affiliate Network To Work With

In this post we will be covering some more details about choosing a niche, what products to promote as an affiliate marketer and choosing an affiliate network to work with. I promote a combination of physical products and digital products and make very good commissions from both.

I promote products from hundreds of different merchants and sell in more niches than I can even remember. However, the majority of affiliate products I promote come from a few affiliate networks listed below.

If you are selling digital products I suggest you join Clickbank.com

The advantage of Clickbank is that they approve all affiliates immediately, which makes it a popular choice for people starting out. I think Clickbank have some excellent digital products and you can apply all the techniques I teach on this website to both physical products and digital products sites.

If you are new to marketing online I suggest starting with Amazon for physical products and Clickbank for digital products. Once you get the hang of it and start making affiliate sales, then you can branch out and apply for some other networks that target specific niches.

Amazon

Amazon needs no introduction, they are a massive online company who sell pretty much everything these days. As far as promoting physical products as an affiliate, I recommend starting off at Amazon. There are a few reasons for this, one is that the approval process is quite easy, and also they tend to convert traffic reasonably well. In fact if you send any traffic over to Amazon and they buy even a totally unrelated product to the one you were promoting, you still get paid commission for that sale. This is great because people often shop around when they’re on Amazon and buy more than one item, so your overall commission can be high.

Shareasale

Shareasale are a great network and they have plenty of very good products that you can promote as an affiliate. They have all kinds of different products such as outdoor equipment, sports, electronics etc…and the payouts can be as high as 20% in some cases. When you join this network you won’t get automatically approved to promote all the products in the network, instead you have to apply to the merchant from within the Shareasale interface. Some merchants will allow anyone to promote their products, and with these ones you will get instant approval, otherwise you have to apply. When applying it’s always a good idea to have some form of website to show, and if it’s related to their offer then that’s much better, or you might like to stick to the merchants that auto-approve.

Commission Junction

Commission Junction are the largest physical products network there is. They have a huge number of products to choose from, including well know brands. They have a similar set up to Shareasale, in that you do not get auto-approved for all their offers, but must instead apply to each one.

Clickbank

Most of you will be familiar with Clickbank, so I won’t go into too much detail here, but if you’re not, then Clickbank is a great affiliate network for promoting digital products such as ebooks and software. The commission are usually high, usually between 50 to 75% for most products, and the approval process is instant.

OfferVault

Offer Vault is a great resource for finding affiliate products to promote. They are a network of affiliate networks and some products pay very high commission for sales and even for leads. Getting paid for leads means you get payed when people just give their email address even if they do not buy the product. If you have traffic going to a page and can find a product that fits well with the niche you are promoting, this can be a great way to make some good money with online online affiliate marketing. The down side is these affiliate networks do not usually auto-approve and it can be a bit tough to be accepted in however, it is sure worth the effort. There are some commissions that pay $40-100 just for a lead!

SEO Training For Multi Product Sites

Here’s a quick SEO training tip. When setting up a new site I like finding multiple keyword variations and make multiple posts or pages centered around the main product keyword. Then I keep doing this with multiple products until I eventually have created a multi product site.

A multi product site is a site that promotes more than one product in the same niche. This works great if there are lots of products in that particular niche. With a multi product site you can keep growing your site over time, giving you more flexibility and higher profit potential in the long term.

The main advantage of a multi product site over a one product site, is you have more flexibility with the products and keywords you choose.

For example you might want to build a site that is about “cameras” in general and therefore can promote any brand of camera, not just one model of camera. What I do with this kind of site is start small like a one product site, with a few products and once I get traffic to these pages and am making money, I then add more pages promoting different products in the niche.

This allows you to have much larger sites over time, with the added advantage that you don’t have to build a new site just to make more money, you can just add more pages to your existing site. The other advantage of this site is that search engines like Google like to see sites that are growing, and becoming larger authority sites over time.

When you do SEO (Search Engine Optimization) each page or post on your site has its own chance to rank at the top of Google. This means is that if you have more than one page talking about the same product and write about that product in a slightly different way on each page, you will get more pages indexed and ranking for those keywords.

A common mistake that newbies make is they think that their website ranks in Google when in reality it’s not a website that ranks in Google, but a web page, and every individual page has its own chance to rank for a keyword.

For example, one keyword might be a product name like ´ Ralph Lauren ´, and another keyword might be ‘ Ralph Lauren for men’ OR ‘ Ralph Lauren for women’.

New pages you add to these sites get indexed fast by Google and rank more easily too, where as starting with new sites takes time for Google to trust them.

If you choose this style of site then you need to still aim for the same target of at least three keywords each one getting 500+ exact match searches or higher in the local market.

NOTE: Another advantage of this style of site when you are an Amazon affiliate is that you can add a page that promotes a low priced item, which will most likely have less competition. The reason you would want to do this, is because although this product itself won’t bring you in much money it will increase your overall Amazon sales for the month. What this means is that you will move into the higher commission bracket.

Amazon starts you off at 4% commission, but if you sell 6 items, you move up to 6%. So the aim is to get those first 6 sales for a low ticket, high search volume keyword.

When you create a site with multiple products in the same niche, it is a good idea to have at least 3 to 5 buyer keyword variations of each product and write a story or new post centered around each keyword and soon you’ll have an authority site in your niche. It takes time to do this but if you target the keywords correctly, each time you add another product to your site, you’ll get more traffic and sales as the site keeps growing.

Convert Visits to Sales with “Buyer Keywords”

One of the biggest lessons I learned in my Internet marketing career is understanding how to find people online that are ready and willing to buy! Once I worked out how to do this, my Internet marketing efforts really started to take off. In this post I’m going to share with you some tips to help you master this vital online marketing concept, buyer keywords and convert visits to sales.

Finding the Buyers

Keyword data is the biggest factor that distinguishes online marketing from the offline world. Before the days of Google and keyword data, businesses relied heavily on market research companies to provide insight into the mind of the consumer.

These days we can simply analyze the keywords they type into Google and base a lot of our decisions on this. You might think this is obvious, however you would be amazed at how many people fail to grasp this.

Commercial Intent

This leads me onto my next point; ‘Commercial Intent’. This is simply judging how likely a person is to buy, based on the keywords they use in their search.

Ideally, you want to be driving traffic to your sites on keywords with high commercial intent, as these keywords will convert visits to sales at much higher rates than more general, information-seeking keywords.

Example Searcher

Let’s look at an example to demonstrate this point more clearly. If a person types “acne” into Google, I would consider this to be a low commercial intent keyword, the reason being that we can’t tell what their intention is at this stage. They may just want to learn about acne and how many people have it, or the main causes of acne. These searches are known as “information seeking keywords,” and they’re not likely to result in high conversions to sales for you.

However, let’s say that the person who typed “acne” into Google did in fact have bad acne and needed a cure. The next thing he/she might do, after they browsed some websites about acne, is head back to Google and refine the search a bit more.

They might start researching the kind of acne they have, and type into Google “Types of Acne.” This is not a buyer keyword, but it may reveal to the searcher that they have a type of acne known as cystic acne.

So they might now type into Google “cystic acne treatment” and read some more webpages about possible acne treatments that you can use. At this stage, the commercial intent of the keyword has increased, and the conversions to sales also increase with it. We know exactly what the searcher’s problem is and that they are looking for a solution for it.

You can take this even further by getting very specific, and get extremely high commercial intent with keywords like “buy cystic acne treatment.” When you see the word “buy” in the search phrase, the searcher is blantantly telling you that they are ready to buy.

Conversions & Profits

Essentially, the higher the commercial intent, the higher the conversion rate for keywords and the more profit you will make. Therefore, it is important to build your websites on keywords that have a high amount of commercial intent.

What you must keep in mind, though, are the traffic stats for a keyword. It’s all well and good to be targeting a super-high commercial intent keyword, but if no one is searching for it, then you won’t make a penny.

When I look at keyword figures I usually aim for no less than 500 exact match searches a month in the local market I am targeting. I then start with half a dozen keywords and build my sites from there, with the intention to grow the list of keywords I’m targeting out over time.

Also, I will often target lower search volume buyer keywords as my secondary keywords for a page. For example, if my primary keyword for a page is “cystic acne treatment” I might target “buy cystic acne treatment” as a secondary phrase to collect that extra bit of buyer traffic to that page.

Although there are several more steps to creating profitable affiliate sites, building on a solid foundation of buyer keywords is the most important thing to get right.

One of the most important parts of any SEO campaign is backlinking. The more links coming to your site the better it ranks in the search engines and the higher your site will climb up the search results. You could have the best looking site anyone has ever seen and without backlinks no one would ever know your site existed.

What are backlinks?

Backlinks are simply links from another site that link back to your site. Search engines love backlinks and the search engine spiders follow the links to your site and index the page making it easier for people searching online to find your site. Article marketing is a great way to get long-lasting and very targeted backlinks to your site. When you write an article about a specific niche, people interested in that niche will be searching for information about your topic on the search engines. Articles are full of content and text words that search engines love to index because that is how people search for things online, by typing words into a search engine. At the bottom of your artcile is your link back to your site.

Because your article and the information someone is searching for are about the same topic that they are looking for, the traffic generated by articles is specifically targeted to their interests. This makes your traffic highly targeted which to your offer or niche.

Articles can be published to article directories adding more backlinks and other website owners re-publish your articles on their sites and spread your backlinks over and over again. The more backlinks coming into your site, the higher your site ranks on the page of a search engine.

Create a Google Alert for keywords. When you have a web page you want to rank for, set up a Google Alert for that keyword. Choose to get your alerts from blogs. Every time someone posts a blog

that has that keyword in it, Google will send you an alert in your email and you can click to the blog and add a comment to it. This will get you some traffic and help you rank higher.

Social media sites are another good way to get additional backlinks. Sites like Twitter and Facebook get indexed many times a day because so much content is added to them daily and the search engine spider will find your links and follow them back to your site.

Backlinking can be outsourced to have someone do the backlinks for you. If you do outsource your backlinking, make sure you use a company that will build your backlinks gradually over time. Instead of adding thousands of backlinks overnight like some backlinking software does, it is much better to add them steadily over time. Too many backlinks all at once looks very unnaural to a search engine and could get your site banned.

Backlinking and choosing the right keywords will go a long way to improving your search engine rankings. These basic tips for backlinking will work very well for getting your site indexed, getting traffic to your site and attracting very targeted traffic.

How I Promote Amazon Products

How to Sell Amazon Products

This guide on finding a niche market outlines all of the steps that I take to find a new Amazon products niche. I feel like the niche selection process is one of the most important steps in building a successful Amazon product site. Even if you pick the best or most popular products to promote, you will never make sales on a regular basis without a great search engine ranking to bring targeted traffic to your site. This guide will teach you how to find a niche and a keyword phrase that will allow you to easily get a top ten search engine ranking on a keyword phrase that actually receives traffic.

This guide will NOT teach you how to actually build your website – it’s just a guide to get you to the point of being ready to start building your website that will actually be successful and make you money every single money!

There are many books available on How To Sell On Amazon directly on Amazon itself but this guide is about how I go about choosing products to sell on Amazon and how to promote Amazon products.

Amazon Product Selection
I always begin my search with product selection. You have to figure out what products you are going to be promoting before you can proceed to keyword and domain name selection. I use a number of different websites to find products. Ebay Pulse is a good website to see what people are looking to buy, although some of these products may not work well for this type of website. Even more so, some of these products may not even be available for sale on Amazon.

Everyone has their own method of finding products, but I personally think it’s so easy to find products on Amazon itself if I am going to be making a website to promote Amazon products. This saves me a lot of time in the long run because I never find a product that ends up not being available for promotion.

I mainly use the tools that are available to the general public on Amazon. Just go to their main page and select a department. You can then further refine the department until you get down to specific types of products. Any of these are potential niche ideas, although more research will be needed to find out if it’s a niche that you will be successful with. Start by simply making a list of some possible niche markets.

When you are searching within a particular category on Amazon, you can sort your results by ‘Bestselling’, ‘Avg. Customer Review’ and even by price. I like using these features to find some of the popular items or to target higher priced items. It does help sales a lot for a product you are promoting to have customer reviews.

You can also find out what people want to buy on Amazon.com by checking out Gift Central. Gift Central shows you some of the most wished for items in various categories or for different kinds of people (grandpa’s, for example). This is a superb way to find out about popular niche products that you would ordinarily not even think about.

A lot of people will only select products with a price of $150 or higher, but I don’t always agree with that policy. You will get lower commissions but better conversion rates with lower priced products and the opposite with higher priced products. This means that you will need more traffic to convert a single sale when you have a site promoting higher priced products. I really like it when I can find a niche that offers a bit of a variety of product prices so I have some cheaper items to promote that will get frequent sales and more expensive items that sell every now and again but bring great commissions.

Try to avoid the most mainstream high-priced items that are already over-promoted: TV, computers, etc. Although I do not have any specific places to recommend to find these specific products, new types of products that become available to the pubic are often the best niches to make a website for and they will usually have available domain names. Once you have a general product category, try to find new products made in that category within the past year or even products that will be coming out next year.

Keyword & Domain Name Selection
When I am trying to find a new niche market, I will only choose a primary keyword phrase that has the exact phrase available to register as a .COM domain name if possible. This is one of the most important aspects of my entire campaign besides actual product selection. Without it, getting search engine rankings will take more work, time and effort. I prefer spending my time researching and making new websites – not marketing and maintaining!

Obviously, almost everyone will know about keyword resources from Google: Google Insights and Google Keyword Tool.

Google Insights is great to find out whether a product is on the rise or decline. You don’t want to get on board with a product that people won’t want to buy a few years from now and on the other end of the spectrum, you’ll make a ton of money down the road if you get in on a product that is just starting and gains popularity over time. Insights will also give you suggestions of other relating search terms that are popular in addition to breakout searches featured on the right hand side of the page. An important point that I want to stress about Insights is to NEVER rely on these keywords to decide on a primary keyword phrase or domain name. Use this information as a guideline only to have an idea of the popularity of your products and whether they have seasonal tendencies.

Google Keyword Tool is used to actually select a keyword phrase for your product(s). You want to find a keyword phrase that has a good monthly search count. Although you will not see this option when you first make a search on the keyword tool, after your results are displayed you will be able to mark check boxes for “Broad, Exact and Phrase”. You can check each of these boxes to give you an idea of the power for your keyword phrase in various areas. I’ve provided a brief explanation of each of these settings below.

Broad – This number shouldn’t be taken too literally because you will likely never receive all of this traffic. This figure is a general traffic stat that will tell you how much traffic that subject receives, although the actual searches can be very different from your keyword phrase. If you end up creating an authority site that essentially covers every single topic for a subject, you could possibly see a portion of this search traffic.

Exact – Most people only go by the exact monthly search traffic in their keyword research. While this is a good practice, I don’t think the other numbers should be ignored. I have had many websites with low exact monthly search traffic that gets many times more traffic than sites with considerably higher exact monthly searches. That’s where the other two factors come into play, because you will usually target more than a single keyword phrase over an entire website.

Depending on the price of the product I want to sell, I usually look to get a bare minimum of 200 exact monthly searches for my primary keyword phrase. Obviously, more will be better but it’s hard to find available .com domain names containing the exact phrase for keywords that receive more than 1000 exact monthly searches. Some people claim to only make new sites with that kind of keyword traffic, but I believe automated scripts have snatched up almost all of these domain names. Whether that is true or not is not important because you don’t need that many searches to have a successful website that makes daily sales.

Phrase – I like using this stat in combination with the ‘Exact’ stat to get an idea of the traffic that I can reasonably go after with a new niche market. I will give you a brief example of how important this number really is. Let’s say your exact keyword phrase is “niche markets” and it receives 200 exact monthly searches (all made up figures, by the way). Most people will never consider this to be a good choice for a primary keyword phrase. However, if the ‘Phrase’ monthly traffic figure shows a reasonable amount of traffic then I would never pass up this choice as a primary keyword phrase. In fact, I want my ‘Phrase’ traffic to be considerably higher than my ‘Exact’ phrase traffic for my primary keyword. This gives me something to build my website with because all of those other keyword phrases that contain your primary keyword phrase will make for excellent content pages on your site.

You optimize the main page of your site for the primary keyword phrase and then have many other pages that are each optimized for a single long-tail phrase that contains your primary phrase (ie, “new niche markets” or “product niche markets”). When you add up the traffic of all of these keyword phrases, you receive the ‘Phrase’ traffic number. I view this as the real potential for a website.

Another important thing to look at for your keyword phrase with Google Keyword Tool is the search volume trend shown in the bar graph for each keyword phrase. Unless you are targeting a seasonal product, you want to see a fairly steady bar graph or a bar graph that is on the rise. Never go for something that is really high to start and almost gone towards the end of the bar graph. This means the keyword phrase is losing traffic. You should also remember that the monthly traffic figures that Google provides are based on a 12 month average (an average of the months shown to you in those green bar graphs for each keyword).If you find a keyword that is quickly gaining popularity, it could show a low monthly search average but actually be receiving many more searches.

When I find some real prospects for a keyword phrase, I ALWAYS download the CSV file from Google for the keyword results (there’s a download button at the top of the results). Open that file with a spreadsheet program and take a look at the search volume counts. It will show you a count from the previous month – this figure will give you a real idea of it’s current monthly search traffic. I believe this aspect is overlooked by automated programs and I have found keyword phrases with 500-800 average monthly searches that actually are receiving 1400 monthly searches as of last month. In almost all of these situations, I found the .COM domain name to be available for registration.

That brings me to my next point – domain name registration. ALWAYS try to get a .COM that is an exact match of your primary keyword phrase. An an example, if your keyword phrase is “niche market” then you want to be able to register “nichemarket.com”. Keep searching through keyword possibilities until you find one that has an available domain name.

Unfortunately, after you make your way through all of these steps, this entire process can take numerous hours or even longer to find a good niche. You can even go all the way through the process only to never find a single available .com domain name. In this case, you just have to brush it off and search for another niche.

When you find an available .com domain name for your keyword phrase, you need to do one more bit of research on Google before you make a final decision.

Go to Google and search for your keyword phrase. You need to look for a few things when you do this search:

Paid Advertising (Look at top and on right)
Authority Sites in the Top Ten (About, Wiki, Amazon or other major sites in your niche)
Websites in the Top Ten with ALL/ANY of your keywords in the domain name
Websites in the Top Ten with the exact keyword phrase in the title and/or description
Websites in the Top Ten with more than one listing for the keyword phrase

It is OK to see some of the above things when you search for your keyword phrase, but if you see all of these things then you may want to consider another phrase. This should simply tell you how hard it is going to be to get ranked in the Top Ten with a quick look. If you would like to look at the competition a bit more, do the following on Google:

Search for the keyword phrase contained within quotes (ie: “niche market”). If you see more than 30,000 websites in those search results, you will need to put more effort into marketing, on-site optimization and content building. If you can find a keyword phrase with less than 10,000 results in this search, you should have a fairly easy time getting into the top ten if you follow the other guidelines I’ve talked about.
Search for the keyword phrase contained within quotes with “allintitle:” in front of it (ie, allintitle:”niche market”). If you see more than 10,000 websites, you will need more effort as stated above. In an ideal situation, I like this number below 1,000 or even below 500.
Go through each site in the Top Ten and perform a search to find out how many pages that particular website has (ie, site:example-domain-name.com). I don’t have a set number I’m looking for here, but I like to mostly see websites that have a lower page count. When you find sites that have hundreds or even thousands of pages, this will let you know that you may need some extra effort to top these websites. The more pages a website contains, the more weight they will have in the search results in general (this helps to translate into a higher page rank for a site, which is why sites with millions of pages like wikipedia have high PR).
Just like before, go through the sites in the top ten and look to see how many backlinks Google shows for the website (ie, link:example-domain-name.com). Unfortunately, you can’t take these exact numbers literally because new links will usually not show up in these results even if Google is already considering their weight. If a page other than the main page of a website is the ranking page in the top ten, check out the backlink count of that specific page as well as the entire domain name. This also helps you to determine the overall power of a website that you will compete with. Some people say to try and get as many backlinks as all of the pages in the top ten have combined to get a #1 ranking, but this isn’t needed in most cases unless you are in a high competition niche. You can be #1 with zero backlinks while the other sites below you have many backlinks – it’s just one of the many factors in the ranking equation.

I put very little effort into marketing my niche product websites and am able to quickly obtain top ten search engine rankings. With a bit of marketing work, I can usually get to #1 within a couple months of starting a new site.

I run a lot of different websites and constantly make new ones, so I really don’t devote a lot of time to the marketing process. I find that if you put some serious thought and effort into the planning of your website then all of the other pieces will fall into place with ease.

Everyone in affiliate marketing and online marketing says traffic is king but I disagree. It’s very important for sure but I say Conversions is King. Why do I say that you ask? Because I have sites that get thousands of hits a day that make less money than some sites that only get four hits a day. That’s right! 4 per day! These sites get the best conversions possible so of course, I had to have a closer look at the to see why they did so well.

Plenty of online businesses have found that a site that includes multiple forms of monetization is the most profitable and effective approach. One important point is do not take it to the extreme with affiliate ads or whichever you have. While all the ads may look nice and promising to you, I assure you most of your readers will not appreciate it. But recognizing your conversions can be spread-out and casting a larger net will increase your profits bit by bit. No matter what you do, be sure to test everything. Why Most Affiliates Fail… and What to Do About It

It’s no secret that out of the hundreds of thousands of new people who decide to try affiliate marketing every year, only a small percentage ever make enough to quit their day job or significantly change their lifestyle. Is it because affiliate marketing is too competitive, too hard for non-techie people, or just not all it’s cracked up to be?

Having met many successful people in the affiliate marketing world, and knowing what I know from working at ClickBank, I don’t believe that any of those are the reasons why most people don’t make it as affiliate marketers.

In my opinion, success as an affiliate marketer comes down to two factors: dedication and perseverance.

Dedication and Desire

If you were seriously thinking about taking up a new craft or skill, something you’d never really done before, and wanted to get good enough at it to make a living, think about how dedicated you’d need to be.

Let’s take golf as an example—if you wanted to make a living playing golf, do you think you could just go out and hit 100 golf balls a few times a week and expect to be on the pro tour any time soon?

No way! Pro golfers hit literally thousands of shots a day, every single day, whether they want to or not—because that’s what it takes to be great. They study the game, they try to identify their faults and fix them, and most importantly, they develop or find a training system and stick to it—for months or years on end. Because that’s what it takes to be great.

According to author Malcolm Gladwell, who studied exceptionally talented and successful people in his book Outliers, found that being in the top tier of almost any endeavor, whether sports, business, or the arts, requires incredible dedication and work. He found that people at the absolute pinnacle of their craft have all put in at least 10,000 hours of work over the years.

Hopefully it won’t take you anywhere near 10,000 hours to become a successful affiliate marketer, but you need to approach your efforts as if it will. Many people buy an Internet Marketing training system, read it and get really excited, then either don’t actually follow the system to the letter, or do it for a week or two and give up if they don’t see results.

People that follow marketing systems to the letter, day in and day out, are very rare. But they are often the people who really succeed, and sometimes even develop their own system that works even better.

Pick a System and Follow It

Over the years, I’ve seen many affiliate marketing training systems, and with a few exceptions, their advice is usually very good. However, the techniques they teach can be tedious, repetitive, and usually take weeks, if not months, to start showing results. Just like golf training, or learning a musical instrument, or anything else that requires dedicated effort and perseverance.

I’ve talked to quite a few affiliates over the years that tell me, “I’ve been doing this for months and haven’t made any money! I’m ready to give up.” Sometimes they’ll even tell me they’re using a training system I’m familiar with, and are disappointed in its results.

Whenever I talk to someone like this, I’ll ask questions like:

How many articles have you written and posted?
How many niche websites have you built?
How many hours did you spend researching a niche and keywords before choosing it?
How many backlinks do you actively try to build each week?

Typically, the answer is “Not many” or “I’ve never really done backlinking” or “I picked a niche in a few minutes.” Having seen many of the top training programs out there, I can guarantee that they don’t promise success if you don’t regularly write articles, do serious niche and keyword research, and consistently build backlinks!

It would be like a golf instructor telling you to hit 300 chip shots every day, but instead you only do 10 shots 3 times a week. Can you blame him that you’re not getting any closer to your goal? Or is it a matter of dedication and desire?

Making the Time

At this point, you might be saying, “That’s easy for you to say. There just aren’t enough hours in the day.” For a very small number of people that might be true, but according to the Nielsen Company, the average American watches more than 4 hours of TV every single day. Imagine how much you could accomplish in your Internet Marketing efforts if you used 1 or 2 of those hours each day to focus on the kinds of tasks I mentioned above!

Remember the 10,000-hour rule? Think about how much quicker you’ll get to that level of success if you dedicate your time and focus to becoming great at affiliate marketing, rather than trying it for an hour or two here and there without a real system or plan.

Fortunately for you, with a high level of dedication and perseverance, it’s not going to take a decade of practice to become great, like it does for athletes or musicians. It can be much quicker (though not overnight or in a few weeks). Depending on the amount of time you spend, it could be anywhere from a few months to a couple of years. In the grand scheme of things, to reach your goals and change your life for the better, isn’t it worth skipping some TV every day?

If you’re really serious about becoming an affiliate marketing success, maybe it’s time to ask yourself, “Have I been doing everything I can to make the dream a reality?” If not, there’s no time like the present to start!

3 Steps to Skyrocket Your Sales in 2011

Everyone always wants to start the New Year off with a bang. Imagine I offered you a crisp, fresh, $100 bill for every $50 bucks you gave me every single day in 2011. We’d be instant friends (or at least solid acquaintances).

Not to mention you’d give me every $50 you could get your hands on.

Unfortunately, skyrocketing your conversion rate takes serious work, not to mention some dang good copy. Keep reading and we’ll walk through 3 simple (but not necessarily easy) steps that’ll breathe new life into your copy and boost the sales you’re getting now.

1. Be Picky About Your Prospects

There are around like 266,224,500 Internet browsers in the US alone (Internet World Stats) who spent $156 BILLION online in 2009. Logic dictates that if you grab just a small piece of that massive pie, you’re doing pretty good.

So you pull out the figurative 12-gauge and start blasting away…

Wrong answer.

It’s time to break out your laser… and hit them with a guided missile.

You see, when you know exactly who you want to hit, it’s a million times easier to find that guy and give him exactly what he’s looking for. The reason you want to do this? He’ll pay cash.

The problem is, finding your ideal prospect takes a whole lot of brain-breaking work.

Here’s a cheatsheet to help you figure out who your perfect prospect is. Break out a pen and paper and start writing:

1. Define who your prospect isn’t. E.g. If you’re selling info products on menopause, teenage boys definitely aren’t interested. Same goes for WoW strategy guides and 73 year old grandmothers.
2. Pump your past buyers for demographic information. Setup a free survey somewhere like Zoomerang or Wufoo and ask your list for key information like age, sex, income and why they bought your product.
3. Picture the guy who is really hurting. You want people who are at the end of their proverbial rope, and serious about buying. The guy who is 80 lbs overweight sees the Fat Burning Furnace and thinks “I honestly/desperately/definitely need that.” The guy who is 5 lbs overweight thinks “I kinda want that.”
4. Find the “hidden meaning” in other promotions. Check out sites that have exploded in your niche. Pick through their benefits and pull out what button they’re truly hitting. E.g. “Perfect for someone who doesn’t care about what is actually going on in the world” which translates to “you know what’s going on in the world” and means feeling included and “in-the-know” is important for this prospect.

These four pieces will start getting you inside your prospect’s head. Perfect for adding serious sales volume…

Step 2. Paint Your Prospect’s Picture

Now that you’ve got a rough skeleton of who your prospect is, it’s time to make him (or her) come to life. Your goal is to be able to close your eyes and see your prospect sitting in front of you, AMEX in hand, begging to hit the “buy” button.

To do that you need four categories:
1. Demographic Info
2. Current State
3. Beliefs
4. Desires

Here’s what those might look like for a weight loss prospect:

1. Demographic Info – 37 years old, married, household income of < $60,000, white male. 2. Current State – Knees hurt, feels tired all the time, hates his reflection, is afraid of the beach.
3. Beliefs – Diets don’t work, deep-down there is something wrong with him, exercise is confusing, people don’t like him because he’s fat.
4. Desires – To be skinny with 6 pack abs, to like himself, to have women find him attractive.
The “desires” are the element that just about everyone gets right, but knowing your prospect’s current state and beliefs will put you miles ahead of your competition. With those pieces you make your copy “click” inside your prospect’s head.

Step 3. Make Him An Offer He Can’t Refuse

Now that you know exactly who your prospect is and what he wants, you need to make him an offer that hits every one of his buttons.

To do that you’ve got to pull him back to every tantalizing taste of heaven you’ve given him reading your copy. In other words, you don’t want him to simply see what he could be, you want him to feel it.

For the guy who wants to lose weight that means:
• A chance to walk along the crowded beach and not even remember days when you hated having your shirt off.
• Look in the mirror and be impressed.
• Feel like Brad Pitt when you walk in the room.
• Want to try washing clothes on your stomach – just to see if it works…

Don’t forget, this is the piece that every word of your copy was built up to. This is the climax. Don’t skimp on it. Please don’t rush it.

Now, once you’ve established what all the major benefits are going to smell, taste and feel like… ask for the order.

If you’ve got a guarantee, this is the perfect time for it. Then ask for the order again.

Note:Don’t chicken out or beat around the bush – he wants what you’ve got – tell him how to get it!

Next, start counting the dollars.

The Wrap Up

Most people want to skip the piece of understanding who their prospect is. Wrong answer. The better you know your prospect, the easier it is to sit down and sell to him. Not to mention, by putting serious effort into figuring out who you’re selling to, you’ll be able to make the perfect offer. It’ll be more like giving than selling.

With these 3 steps you can make a New Year’s resolution that will make you money. Keep testing, tweaking. I hope these tips help your copy convert as much as they help my clients and me!

It does it using proxy servers from many IP addresses and finds your chosen keywords on the search engines of your choice and drills down the search engine to find your site and then clicks on your site.

Those clicks link your pages to your keywords and they climb in rank on the search engines.

It’s important that you get listed & rank high in Google, but also equally important to rank high in Yahoo, Bing, Lycos, and the other major search engines. Once you have it installed and you are ready to start some campaigns, it’s easy to get it up and running. You start by naming and selecting a new campaign, then you add some domain names for your site and add some keywords you want to rank for for each domain.

Then you add some proxies that you can get for free everyday when you purchase SE Sniper SEO Software. Basically, a proxy server is a computer that is connected between your computer and another computer and it is used to keep machines behind it anonymous this way Google sees it as a click coming from another computer with a different IP address. This will get your site climbing the search engines.

Have you ever noticed indented listings on Google’s SERP or Search Results Pages? Those listings usually stand out and grab the attention of the visitor getting a heavy click through rates. Wondered how to get the same for your site? Here we go.

First, let’s see the logic behind Double Listings on Google SERPs. Actually it’s no rocket science: When two different pages of the same website show up on the same SERP (Search Engine Result Page) then Google would group them together.

Let‘s say for example if your page has a rank of 15 and 20, they would be grouped and shown together; first one with the normal alignment and the next an indented one. Call it a pretty smart move by Google. The main purpose is that Google intends to show results that are both very significant and relative to one another.

Steps to get your page double listed:

Determine the page for which you’d like a double listing.This is the first step where you must get one of your pages already ranked in Google for a particular keyword. Once that is done, you’re simply going to create another page similar to the first page.

Structuring Your Second Page:

Make sure that the title page heading for the second page is very much similar to the first page but not the same as the first page.
For Content, make sure the keyword density in the second page is slightly higher than the first page.

Linking Strategy:

Exchange links between the first and second pages. Ensure that page 1 is linked to page 2 with the anchor text that you would want page 2 to rank for. Again link page 1 to page 2 with the same anchor text. Also, link page 2 to every other places on your website where the first page links to, using the same anchor texts.

Finally:

Get two or more Backlinks for second page from authority sites (say the article directories or other web 2.0 sites).
Now give it some time for Google to find your second page having significant value as to the first page or confuse itself on finding the right page with the content and group both of the pages for you to get higher click thru rates.

Boosting Business With a Facebook Fan Page

Some of your business’s most valuable assets are its fans–the brand evangelists who sing the praises of your products and services–with or without you knowing about it. On Facebook, you have access to a choir of more than 500 million potential fans. Enlist a tiny percentage of the most vocal members to be your loyal Facebook Fans, and you can quickly spark a word-of-mouth wildfire. The potential is tremendous, while the startup costs are next to nothing–only a small amount of your time to create a Fan Page and two to three hours per week maintaining it.

A Fan Page is like a Facebook member’s profile page, but for businesses instead of individuals. Your Fan Page becomes your businesses center of operations on Facebook. You can use it to highlight specific products and services, post status updates to keep customers and prospects informed, and get Fans excited about upcoming events, product and service launches or enhancements, and related campaigns.

Build a great Fan Page, pack it with relevant and compelling content, and soon your page will begin to attract Fans. When Fans interact with your Page, these interactions appear in their News Feeds, where their Facebook Friends can find out about your Fan Page and help spread the word.

Laying the Groundwork
A Fan Page is free, but you don’t want it to look cheap. Invest as much time preparing your page as you would spend crafting a quality advertisement for your business. Before creating your Fan Page, prepare the following:

Purpose: It’s called social media, not social selling. Use your Fan Page to make and maintain friendships, warm up cold prospects, and build community and trust. Treat your Facebook Fans as friends.
Page name: Choose a name for your page that customers and prospects are likely to recognize. The company or brand name on your business card is a good place to start.
Quality image: Use your company logo or a high-quality photo of the No. 1 product you want to showcase–something that puts a recognizable face on your business.
Valuable content: Content is key in turning Fans into customers and customers into Fans. Avoid using the Fan Page as merely an online catalog. Posting tips on how customers can enhance their experience with a particular product, or soliciting feedback on a current product or service, is much better.

Creating Your Fan Page

Creating a Fan Page is easy once you know where to access the feature. Scroll to the bottom of any Facebook screen, click Advertising, click Pages, click Create a Page, and follow the on-screen instructions.

Caution: Choose the category and page name carefully; you cannot change them later. Try out different categories and subcategories first to determine the types of information you can enter for each. You can delete each test page and run through the steps again to create a new one under the category you find most suitable.

After creating your company’s Fan Page, flesh it out with some content:

Profile picture: Rest the mouse pointer over the big question mark in the upper left corner of the Page, click Change Picture, Upload a Picture, and then upload your image.
Description: Click Add information to this Page (below the picture) and type a brief but detailed description of whatever the page is about.
Information: On the Info tab, click Edit Information and enter basic and detailed information about your company, website, products, services, mission, and so forth. (The available fields vary according to the category and subcategory you selected.) When you’re done, click Save Changes.

Tip: Post Status Updates or other content at least three to four times a week to attract Fans and keep them engaged. You can post Status Updates to the Page’s Wall, or post Photos, Videos, Events, and Notes on separate tabs, all of which are included in the default Fan Page.

Expanding Content With Facebook Apps
Consider using Facebook Applications to engage Fans. You can use the Events App to announce special occasions, such as a grand opening or a conference or trade show your business will be attending. You can post a Note to focus the spotlight on your Fan of the Month or announce the results of a recent contest or award. Use your imagination to think up clever uses for Facebook Apps.

Tip: If you maintain your own blog, set up a feed on the Notes tab to automatically display entries from your blog on your Notes page. To set up a feed, click Edit Page (below the photo box), Edit, Import a Blog (under Notes Settings), and follow the on-screen instructions.

To further enhance your page, add business apps from third-party developers. Following are some examples:

Promotions for Fan Pages enables you to run branded interactive promotions on your Fan Page, including sweepstakes, contests, coupon giveaways, instant wins, gifting, and quizzes.
Testimonials and Reviews enable you to collect customer testimonials and product and service reviews from Facebook Fans and display them on your page.
Eventbrite provides tools for bringing people together for an event and selling tickets. If your company is hosting a cause marketing-related fundraiser, this app could come in very handy.
Polls make it easy to create online polls and analyze results with graphs that illustrate user responses across multiple demographics.

Promoting Your Fan Page
After creating a great Fan Page, spread the word about it.

Become your own fan. Pull up your personal profile and then visit your company’s Fan Page and click the Become a Fan button (to the right of the page title). When you become a Fan, all your Facebook Friends are notified via their News Feeds.
Invite your Friends. Send a Message to Facebook Friends you think will be interested in the company Fan Page.
Send Updates to Fans. If you have something to offer that’s really good, you can click the Send an Update to Fans link (found below your page’s picture).
Place a Fan Box or Page Badge on your website or blog. Open your Fan Page and click Promote with a Fan Box (below the photo box). Click Fan Box or Page Badges and follow the instructions.
Place a Share icon on your website or blog. On the page where you can create a Fan Box or Page Badge, click Share to obtain a code to paste on your company website or blog allowing visitors to share your content with their Friends on Facebook.
Give your Page its own vanity URL. Go to facebook.com/username, where you can claim a vanity URL–a web page address that more clearly and simply reflects the Page title.

One of the best lessons I learned in my career as an internet marketer, was how to find customers that are ready to buy online.

The way you do this, is through the keywords these buyers use when they search online. In this post I’ll be giving you some great tips on buyer keywords.

Before I give you a list of buyer keywords, I first want to explain the sales process online, so you can understand the thinking behing buyer keywords, and come up with more yourself.

When someone is thinking of buying something online, let’s say for example they are considering buying a new TV, then they may first initiate their search with keywords such as “best TV’s” or “TV reviews”. These keywords can make money, but really, people typing these kind of keywords into Google are still in the research mode and not ready to pull out their credit card yet.

Let’s continue with the example, after typing in “best TV’s” the person may find some sites that explain that the best TV’s are LCD’s as they last longer than plasma’s perhaps. So now the searcher is set on an LCD, but they still don’t know what LCD is the best. So what do they do? They type in “Best LCD’s” and continue researching.

This process usually continues on until the user finds the LCD they want, and when they have narrowed it down to the XYZ LCD, they will most likely type into Google “Buy XYZ LCD” or “XYZ LCD review”, and bingo they are now officially a buyer!

This is when you want to get your webpages in their view, so that they can read your articles and click your affiliate link before buying a product. It’s not rocket science, just common sense with buyer keywords!

So with that said here are some buyer keywords that I often use:

model numbers
brand names

Another kind of buyer keyword, is where the person is indicating that they have some form of a problem that they need fixed, this is especially true for health problems. For example if someone types into Google: “How to stop snoring” then they have indicated that snoring is a problem, and people tend to be happy to pay for a solution to a problem that is affecting the quality of their lives.

Some more examples of these buyer keywords include:

learn
stop
prevent
help

So remember you need a lot less traffic from buyer keywords to make sales than you do from other kinds of keywords, so take the time to target these on your sites, as it pays off big time!

12 Tips on Creating Content for Social Media

“Do you have any tips on how to develop meaningful content for social media?”

That’s the question posed by Sanjay Kumar in a conversation I’ve been following on Small Business Trends. The conversation began with Anita Campbell telling us some interesting real-life stories of small business owners who’ve tried social media with varying levels of success. As often happens, the comment discussion has made a great post even stronger as it branches off into related ideas — like developing content for crowds.

Developing Content for Social Media

Here’s how I’d answer Sanjay’s question:

1.) Pick and choose your social communities wisely. The first step is always getting involved in the right place. You can create the most amazing content, but if you present it to the wrong crowd, it’ll fail miserably. In the comments of the SBT post, Stephanie of Scratchpad Secretaries hits on this when she says, “It is so important to make sure you don’t just join any and all social networks, but the ones that are suited for your particular business – that is a great point, that I learned the hard way!”

2.) Don’t worry about creating meaningful content until you’ve been an active member of the community for at least a couple months, if not longer. When getting involved in social media, enthusiasm is great — and you probably have it in spades at the start of any new venture. But contribute first by joining existing discussions on other content. You should be studying the types of content that get the most attention, whether it be in the form of votes, comments, or whatever the ‘hook’ is for that social community. Knowing the audience is key to creating content they’ll love.

If you’re already past this point and have joined in the right communities and been studying/participating for some time, then you should have a good idea of the type of content the crowd will value.

Every audience will be different but, generally speaking, here’s what works:

3.) Tell stories. Consider the post I referenced above from Small Business Trends — it’s about small business owners that have shared stories about their own experiences with social media. Look at the amount of comments the post is getting over a long, holiday weekend. We’re attracted to stories. James Chartrand recently wrote about the power of storytelling on Copyblogger:

A good story grabs anyone’s attention. We love stories. We listen to the tale and imagine everything in our mind’s eye. We experience emotion and are compelled to take action because of the stories we hear.

This is a family photo. The guy on the right is my brother-in-law. He has a reputation in the family for being a great storyteller. Look at the emotions and reactions he’s getting in this photo. When the family — our own little social network — is together, we all listen to him. Great storytelling always draws a crowd in any community.

4.) Give away your own knowledge. Your experience and expertise in your field will probably be of interest to others in your social community. This might be in the form of posts on your own blog, guest articles on other sites, how to videos, photo galleries, white paper PDFs, and more. Giving away your knowledge sets you up as an authority, earns respect, and helps you develop an audience. And isn’t that one of the main reasons you’re getting into social media in the first place? Because you’re trying to develop an audience of new prospects, customers, peers, business partners, or whatever.

5.) Interviews with industry personalities. Interviews aren’t easy to land when you’re just starting out. But once you become a known entity and have an audience, people will be more willing to answer questions. An interview with someone your crowd knows and respects will often play well in social communities. And perhaps best of all, this type of content almost writes itself: You just need to focus on developing great questions and letting your interview subject do the rest. (Hint: Before the interview, ask your audience what they would want to know from this person, or take your best guess if you can’t ask them directly before the interview.)

6.) Lists are almost always popular with any crowd. Take a look at the magazines in the checkout line next time you’re at the grocery store. Music magazines will have lists of the best albums or hottest new bands of the year. Sports magazines will have articles listing the greatest games of all time, or the top rookies that year. Female-oriented magazines are almost nothing but lists! These folks have been selling magazines for decades; they know that lists work. I wrote about linkbait in the offline world late last year, and included this image from some magazines on my office bookshelf:

Lists catch the eye and encourage debate. Your list might be tips, resources, rankings, or something funny. The sky’s the limit when it comes to lists.

7.) Debate another popular member of your community, or take the opposing point of view on a current topic. Being a contrarian isn’t for everyone; many people have a fairly strong desire to fit in and play along with the crowd. But disagreeing with the conventional wisdom, and having strong evidence or opinions to support your argument, can become great content.

If you do a Google search for [small business barriers to entry], you’ll see an August, 2006, article by Todd Malicoat in the No. 1 spot. Down at No. 3 (at least for me), you’ll find a contrarian article I wrote two days later. My blog was only four months old at the time, and by taking the contrarian approach I picked up some nice links from Todd himself, Rand, and others. It helped me grow my audience.

Bonus Tips

Would a few extra thoughts on creating content for social media — not necessarily about the types of content, but about delivering that content — be helpful? Hope so.

8.) Write great headlines. This is where attracting a crowd begins.

9.) Follow through on the promise of your headline. Don’t disappoint people with an article that doesn’t meet the expectations that your headline created.

10.) Tell your audience what’s in it for them. This can be in your headline, or early in the content — lay out the reasons they should pay attention to the content you’ve created.

11.) Cite external examples and resources as evidence supporting your point of view.

12.) If creating articles or blog posts, include quality imagery to illustrate your words. Visuals can be strong reinforcements. They also help with usability by making long blocks of text easier to read.

Conclusion

Creating great content for your social network starts with preparation. Get to know the community and the types of content they like before spending your time and energy on content development. Once you know the people and what content plays well, you have lots of choices — lists, interviews, and stories are almost always popular with any social media community. None of this, of course, comes easy. Like any type of marketing that’s worthwhile, patience and persistence are a must.

Find High Quality Backlinks

The top four codes are designed to locate WordPress blogs that allow for commenting. The middle group is designed to find Expression Engine blogs, and the bottom group is designed to find BlogEngine blogs

Expression Engine and BlogEngine are both popular among academics and some government agencies for some reason, which is why we like to focus on those in addition to WordPress.

Since WordPress is the most common blogging platform, however, we’re usually able to get our 10 links without going beyond the first 4 “Secret Codes”.

IMPORTANT: A lot of “black hat” SEOers will tell you to comment on any blog that will have you. I don’t agree, which is why I have you add your keyword (in quotes) into each “Authority Code” search strings.

This ensure that the blogs you are commenting on are somewhat related to your site. This increases the chance that the link will stick around for a long time, PLUS (and more importantly) it makes you a valuable member of the community instead of just another spammer.

QUICK TIP: If your search returns zero results, broaden your keyword phrase a bit (i.e. go from “dog obedience training” to “dog”).

STEP 3: Sift and Sort Your Sites

Once you’ve entered an “Secret Code” into Google, the first step is to sort your results based on PageRank. This is easy to do with SEO Quake…just click on the small “down arrow” next to the “PR” in the top “Sort” column. (see image below)

SIDE NOTE: PageRank is not as vital with .edu and .gov sites because they already carry so much authority. And in the end, don’t fret too much about PR. A link is a link, and a link from a PR1 is still better than no link at all.

If you don’t find any relevant sites on page 1 of the search results, check out page 2 and page 3. Oftentimes you’ll find just as many high PR sites on page 3 as on page 1 of the search results. You can also click setting on the upper right side of the Google search page and set the results default to 100 and Google will show the first 100 results on one page. This will save you time.

If you do a little digging, you should easily be able to locate a handful of relevant sites that allow commenting and are worth posting to.

The next steps are fairly simple, but before we go any further, there’s one “controversial” topic that I need to address…

Do-Follow vs. No-Follow

A lot of “SEO gurus” will want to argue with me about this report and say asinine things like, “These links don’t count because they’re not all “Do-Follow” links.”

First of all, if you don’t know the difference between “no-follow” and “do-follow” links, don’t worry about it. I’m serious! You can Google it if you want, but our tests have shown time and time again that it just doesn’t matter if a page is set to “no-follow”, so it’s not something I want to spend a lot of time discussing.

We post to “no-follow” pages all the time and when we look in our link and traffic logs, what do you know…there’s our (supposedly) no-follow link!

You can decide for yourself exactly what that means, but from where I’m standing a “no-follow” link is just as good as a “follow” link, what matters more is the page rank of the site that the comment is on and if it is engaging to to readers of that site.

I’ll say it again… A LINK IS A LINK!

So don’t fret over whether the link may or may not be passing “link juice” to you. Just act like a human being, be a part of the conversation and in the end your site will move up in the engine.

All that said, if you are still concerned about this issue and only want to post to “do-follow” pages, here’s another Firefox plugin that will make your life easier:

In my opinion, though, posting to only “do-follow” pages is both unnatural and UNNECESSARY. In other words, at best it’s a waste of time, and at worst it could get you banned from the engines if you overdo it. Proceed with caution…

Ok, enough with the controversial stuff, let’s get back to getting links.

If you go back and look at the Authority Code search strings you’ll see that the only difference in each group is the first part (i.e.”site:.com”) where you tell Google to look for .com, .org, .edu or .gov sites. So while the search strings are more or less the same, the kinds of pages you’re looking for will vary a depending on the specific type of site you’re looking for.

For example:

• For .coms, try to find news and information sites, and avoid heavily commercial sites as they aren’t valued as heavily by Google…

• For .orgs, look for relevant association blogs. (Google LOOOOOOVES associations, and they’ll pass some of that love onto you if you can get a link.)

• For .govs and .edus you don’t really need to worry about the content on the site. The domain extension alone is enough to show authority in the eyes of Google. (Remember, not just anyone can get a .gov or .edu domain extension and Google knows that.)

Once you’ve established that particular site is high-quality and adequately-relevant, the next step is to make sure they allow you to enter a website/URL into the comment field. For example, the comment box below doesn’t allow you to enter a website, so there’s no point in wasting your time writing a comment here:

Make sure the comment box has a URL/website field before you spend a lot of time crafting the perfect comment.

This blog for example, doesn’t allow people leaving comments to enter URL’s which means there’s no no in-bound links to be had from this page.

This comment box, on the other hand, does allow for websites, so it’s a good match for this strategy:This blog does allow for URL’s (i.e. link-backs) to be included within the comments so take advantage of it and type a relevant webpage into the highlighted field.

Now that you know the kinds of sites you need to be looking for, let’s discuss the types of comments you need to be leaving…

STEP 4: Leave a Valuable Blog Comment

Blog commenting isn’t difficult, but it does require some thought. Here are some general rules that will keep you on the straight-and-narrow and make sure none of your comments (and links) get trashed like all the other comment spam:

Rule #1: Use a keyword in the “Name” section (but don’t overdo it!)

The”Name” field in the comment box is very important, because this will be the “anchor text” that links back to your site.

SIDE NOTE: “Anchor text” is the visible, clickable words in a link. For example, the following underlined phrase, CLICK HERE, is an “anchor text” link that will take you back to our blog. Anchor text is important, because Google uses the keywords in anchor text links as a factor in their ranking algorithm. So for example, a site with a lot of inbound links that have “dog training” in the anchor text is likely to rank well for that keyword just on the basis of the keyword rich anchor text links.

Black Hat SEOers like to fill the “Name” fields with their primary keywords in the hopes that it will increase their ranking, but if you think about it this is totally unnatural, and anyone moderating the blog will see the comment for what it is: SPAM!

The “black hat” guys get around this by blanketing literally THOUSANDS of blogs with their garbage comments and like all black hat tricks it does work…for a while.

But eventually Google shuts it down as a spam site and the “black-hatter” has to start all over again. You could say they get handed there hat and shown the door.

NO THANK YOU!!!

Personally, I’d rather spend a little more time on the front-end so I can do less work on the back-end, and to do that you just need to make your comment look like a normal human-being wrote it.

So for now, don’t worry about the anchor text.

Once again…A LINK IS A LINK

Is a keyword-rich anchor text link preferred over an anchor text link with your name or your webpage? Yes, but in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t matter all that much, and if your comment gets trashed for spam then it really won’t matter how “keyword-rich” that anchor text was!

So for now, stick to the basics and use either your domain as the name (which should have some keywords in it anyway) or your real name with some keywords following it.

For example. here’s how we write the “Name” field for our hot dog business:

Remember, just don’t overdo it….keep things natural and you’ll be just fine.

Rule #2: Give Your Opinion, Add Value And Be a Little Controversial

Spammers don’t put much thought into their posts, which is exactly why you should.

If you want your comment to get attention (IN A GOOD WAY) and stick around for a long time, give an actual opinion that the blogger and/or moderator would find interesting.

And oddly enough, this doesn’t mean you should compliment them all the time.

If there’s a blog post that you disagree with, let them know…but say it in a respectful, constructive way. If you can get them to respond and generate some activity around your comment, you’ll be able to make multiple comments (i.e. multiple links) without ever being called a spammer.

Rule #3: Don’t Use Common “Spam Phrases”

Since “black hatters” use automated software tools to post literally THOUSANDS of comments, on THOUSANDS of non-related blogs…they need to keep their comments somewhat generic.

That’s why spam is so easy to detect… it all looks like this:

“Great post!”

“Thanks for sharing”

“You rock”

Again, DON’T DO THAT!

It makes you look like an amateur and it will get trashed by any moderator with half a brain.

And once the comment is trashed, the link is trashed… so what’s the point!?

Remember our goal: Ten (10) high-quality inbound links from high-authority .coms, .orgs, .edus and .govs.

And if you do it right, 10 links is all it takes!

So make a commitment to doing it right the first time and you won’t have to worry about doing it more than once.

Ok, so now that you’ve made some comments and have some links pointing back to your page, the next step is to let Google know you’re there…

Step 5: Ping Your Comments So Google Finds Your Links

Once you’ve generated your 10 high-quality inbound links, the next step is to “ping” those pages so Google knows to come and spider your link.

In case you don’t know, a “ping” is nothing more than a call-out to the Internet that a particular webpage has been updated.

These “call-outs” tell search engine spiders (like Google) to come back to the page and spider it for new content and outbound links (like the ones you just created).

There are hundreds of pinging services out there but I use these two:

1. http://pingoat.net/

2. http://www.pingler.com/

Pinging a page is incredibly simple…

All you have to do is:

1. Copy the URL of the page you commented on into the “Website/URL” field…

2. Give it a title (a brief summary of your content is good, or if you want to play it ultra-safe just enter the name of the site)…

3. Select a category (not necessary but it doesn’t hurt)…

4. Choose your ping services (I just select them all)…

Click the Submit button and you’re done!

Within a few hours (or possibly just a few minutes), Google will spider the site you commented on, find your link and give your page credit for a high-quality in-bound link.

Once all 10 links are found by Google and credited to you (which shouldn’t take more than a few days), you should start seeing your site climb in the rankings.And depending how competitive your market is that may be all it takes to get to the first page of the search engines for your targeted keyword.

Targeted website traffic - you hear that term a lot these days. Most people know what it means and understand the concept. Some people actually strive for it. Some people don't.

In plain English, with targeted website traffic, your site has a chance to make some real money and there's a slight chance you might be able to make a living of the internet. But, without targeted website traffic, your site is doomed to die a slow, painful death until it quietly fades away into the dust like so many thousands of other websites.

If you do a search on any of the major search engines for the term 'traffic' you will get mostly websites regarding automobile traffic, traffic reports, road conditions, road closures, motor additives, etc.

If you do a search on any of the major search engines for the term 'website traffic' you will get mostly websites regarding traffic exchanges, stat counters, web searches, page optimization, how to build a website, etc.

If you do a search on any of the major search engines for the term 'targeted website traffic' you will finally get the picture of what this article is all about - making money on the internet. That's why you are here, that's why you have a website, that's why you are reading this article in the first place.

Targeted Website Traffic is King

Without sufficient targeted website traffic to your website nothing will happen - no sales, no rankings, no noteriety, nothing. You need this type of traffic in order to generate sales, provide leads, gather email addresses and create advertising exposure.

So many good things happen when one can actually tap into the targeted website traffic market that it's difficult to name them all. Here are a few examples of what I'm talking about:

* Sales
First and foremost, sales is what you are after. Only targeted traffic will get you the sales you need to stay in business on the internet.

* Links
More targeted traffic leads come from links to similar websites than any other source. These can be either direct links to your website, Adsense links, press releases, blogs, or any other form of advertising that gets your website in front of other people's eyes.

* Free Advertising
As the search engines pick up on your increasing number of visitors, especially if they come from related linking websites, your rankings will hopefully rise and your PageRank wil improve. Having your site on the first three pages of any major search engine is optimum exposure for your site and will bring in customers 'off the street', as it were. This is free advertising.

* More Links
Another benefit to your rise in the search engine rankings, and your rising PageRank, will be your ability to inundated with link requests from every other website imaginable. Remember, stick with only those that relate to your own site. Again, free advertising.

It's one thing to get your website noticed by the search engines but it's quite another to get your website noticed by the buying public. Just because you have great links, great positioning in the major search engines, and great links will not produce sales.

So, how can you become successful where most of the others have failed? What is the magic key to making all these sales that everyone is talking about? I'm glad you asked:

The Magic Key

Are you ready? Are you sitting down? Do you have a paper and pen ready to take notes? Well, then, calm down, take a deep breath, and just remember this one simple fact of internet life: The website makes the sales, not you, not your links, not your search engine presence, not even your friends or comrades whom you sent to check out your 'wonderful little website.' Unless your site screams out to the world, 'BUY MY PRODUCT!!', you will not make enough money to buy one month's worth of internet cable service.

You can buy, grab, obtain, link, and get all the targeted website traffic in the world but it will not sell a single product and/or service unless your website is compelling enough to do the selling for you. Design is one thing, content is another and, remember, content is everything. It makes the search engine robots and spiders visit your site on a daily basis, it makes visitors want to buy, bookmark, or return for a future purchase, and it makes one think, 'Hmm...maybe I really do need this product and/or service.'

Just keep thinking to yourself, 'Design and content, design and content...', over and over. Plus, once your website is complete, it isn't. A proper website is always refining itself and a webmaster knows this. The search engine robots and spider love new content so a little change here or a little change there will make a huge splash with them as they cruise your site on a daily basis.

Targeted Website Traffic Can Make or Break a Website

While having a great design and excellent content on your website is the best possible thing that you can have on the internet, it will still sit there and gather dust until you get the traffic flowing. Unless your website is the only site on the internet that sells a particular product or service, you will be lost in a crowd of thousands or possibly millions.

Remember the term, 'Targeted Website Traffic', and keep this in mind:

* Is it really targeted?
Are the visitors you get to your website actually looking for what your site has to offer? If you buy your traffic from a service, how can you be sure that you get what you pay for?

* Will they buy?
There are no guarantees when it comes to how people make their decisions. All you can do is make your product or service as irresistible as possible. People, in general, are picky and they always want the best for less.

Buying Targeted Website Traffic From a Service

If you are new to this concept and have no idea which companies are reputable and trustworthy, then you will have to experiment, learn from others, hear about it by word of mouth, blogs, forums, etc. Check out each company you come across that offers the traffic you want and compare them against each other. What should you look for when comparing traffic service companies?

* Do they offer a guarantee?
If they do not offer a 100% guarantee then keep looking until you find only those traffic services that do.

* Do they have contact and privacy pages?
All reputable companies have these in place. Review them to your satisfaction before placing any orders.

* Do they have your category available?
Targeted website traffic must fit your site to a 'T' meaning that if you sell widgets then there must be a category for selling widgets, plain and simple. If there categories are not specific to what your website sells, move on until you find one that does.

* Purchase 10,000 targeted visitors, get 10 sales.
This is a general rule. If you do not get at least a 1% return on your investment then one of these things is wrong: either your traffic is not targeted to what you are selling or your website is not strong enough in its' message to sell the product and/or service.

* Does your page counter move?
Every site should have a page counter on their main index page, either visible or not. If that counter does not show the traffic that you purchased then you are not receiving real people but, instead, computer-generated hits. Have you ever made a sale to a computer-generated hit?

Whenever you try a traffic service, buy the minimum to see what happens. If the traffic campaign fails, and you are sure it is not because of your website's design or content, then try another service. Keep searching until you find one that works well for you and stick with it.
