Going Back to the Golden Era

The city where I live is running a fever of going vintage. Almost every entrepreneur who has the financial backing is trying to transform or establish a new business that takes on back to the Golden Era.

I have a lot of 'old' items that I have collected over the years, some are my parents'. I am thinking of contributing what I have to these guys so that they can furnish their establishments.

I don't mind not being paid for my stuff. I get to move my stuff to another place because my own home is packed, and I get to contributed to the development of the town. What say you?

Live Concert

I had the opportunity to go watch a live concert the other day - it was a stroke of good luck on my part. I was just at the right place, at the right time. And my friend has an extra ticket. What good luck! Of course, I took up the offer, or rather, ticket.

I enjoyed myself a lot and spotted a really cool guitar by the guitarist. I remember seeing these bc rich guitars at guitarcenter.com. What great sounds, what great guitar riffs.

It was definitely a night to remember and it will stay in my memory for a long, long time!

How to be a Band Member

My friend's band is in need of one more member for a night of performance. It's the holiday season right now and he found it difficult to call up his musician buddies. I ended up standing in and I had a good time myself.

I don't read music by my friend just asked me to be in charge of the cymbal. I didn't realise it would be this easy. Obviously, we spent time rehearsing! After a while, I got the hang of it.

I checked the internet and found this aax at Guitar Center. From what I read, it is a top class cymbal. Ah, I think I need to get my own because I am quite addicted to it already. But what would I do with just the cymbal without the band? LOL

A friend is in need of a guitar, and sent out word that he doesn't mind buying a second hand one. I don't know about the guitar market, especially second hand guitar market. The last I checked about guitars for my cousin, parker guitars in stock at Musiciansfriend didn't seem that pricey.

Anyway, he sent me a message for help, and I always willingly try my best. Searched a few sites for second hand guitars. These sites are popular platforms for used goods. Couldn't find the Parker that he wants. Told him to just better get a new one from Musician's Friend! It'll be easier, right?

Well, well, well.... we are into the second day of the Lunar Year already. How does it feel? I just hope that the year is over! Hahaha... you wouldn't understand why I say so, and you will think that I am overly superstitious. LOL

Well, just have to lie low and do the best I can to survive the Year of the Rooster!! I hope to do it. No, I CAN do it. Yes, that's the spirit. Just hope and pray that everything will go smoothly.

Karaoke Time

I joined my friends in karaoke the other night. While most people would look at the monitor for lyrics, there was this friend who sang as though he was headlining a concert. It was extremely funny to me and I really had a good laugh looking at his performance because he acted like a rock star but sang out of tune.

The next time we go out for a karaoke session, I plan to bring along this boom microphone so that he could sing better. Well, it may still be out of tune but at least, it would help contain him from jumping all over the place. At least, I hope it does!

My friend, now a very popular emcee in the country, told me that he misses the good ol' days when he was a deejay. I remember that I used to patronise the club that he used to play at. I really enjoyed the music he spun. Truth be told, now that he mentioned it, I too kind of miss those times.

And then recently, I came across this technics 1200 mk2 and I know that my friend would love to own one.

I am planning to purchase a guitar for my young nephew. I know nothing about guitars, although I used to OWN one, believe it or not. I wanted one and my dad bought it for me. I don't know why I wanted it, but I did attend classes but just for a short while and then I gave up and it started to collect dust, and I later sold it off!

I kinda regret my decision now because if I didn't sell it, I could just pass what I have to my cousin. Now I can't. Chinese Orchestra Society

My boss has been supporting a Chinese Orchestra Society of a school for many years. While it has always been with cash and of course his advice, now he is thinking of actually buying the instruments for the society.

I have been tasked to look for some particular instruments, which I found here, luckily, without wasting too much time. I just need to show these instruments to him, get his approval and voila! the kids will have new hand-picked instruments to play with.

I have been checking out voluntary positions from a website that was recommended to be by a friend. I get excited looking at all these places that need people to work for free in exchange for food and lodgings. One just needs to get his or herself over.

One family in Switzerland is looking for someone to help take care of their three young children. Additionally, the man of the house is hoping to learn guitar. I have also been toying with the idea of learning to play the guitar and in fact, have already checked out guitarcenter used guitars for sale.

I think if I learn quickly, I could then teach him to play, in exchange for food and lodgings in Switzerland. That would be great although just a pipe dream for now.

Piano vs. Keyboards

My friend is a third generation piano seller and she keeps saying that my church should purchase a piano. However, I am thinking that perhaps that is slightly out of our budget and maybe the keyboards would suit our pocket and needs better. I have been Choosing a piano keyboard from Musician's Friend, comparing features and costs.

Obviously, it is not going to be my sole decision, but at least, I would like to be aware of what we will be buying and how much. I will know if the price that we are paying will be justified.

So, what do you think is better? Piano or keyboards?

Christmas Bargain

It's less than a week to Christmas and I have not bought any Christmas gifts for my family or friends yet. I have missed a few shopping sprees throughout the month and somehow, now that it's not yet sale time again, somehow, things seemed to be more expensive.

This weekend, I am going to devote more time to scour the internet to look for suitable gifts for the season, and am prepared to pay premium price if I am unable to catch a good deal.

Haih... this is punishment for me for not allocating time to do my Christmas shopping way before the big day arrives.

Tenor Saxophone

I was at a concert last evening. Although the entertainment was non-stop, it was littered with plenty of flaws. For one, I didn't think the performers put up a top notch performance. I may have expected too much but I was not the only one who grimaced at the music.

One of the better ones was a saxophone performer. I loved that he was able to capture a vintage sound from his equipment. I understand from him later that he is using the Otto Link Vintage, setting it apart from other saxophones. The hard rubber mouthpiece is able to recapture the old Link sound.

My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed his segment of entertainment. Luckily, at least there was someone to save the day!

Upgrading Guitar Skills

My little cousin brother, who has recently been inspired to pick up the guitar, now wants to learn more than just playing the instrument.

I'd say that we are not a musical bunch but when he says he wants to produce different sounds from the guitar, after learning the basics, I thought of the Rocktron xpression Guitar Multi Effects Processor.

I've seen a friend using it in his music studio. If I remember correctly, it has ten different effects and more than a hundred presets for guitar and bass. Perhaps I'd take my cousin there for a visit and see how comfortable he is with the features first.

I don't want to invest money on it and then find that he has lost interest in it. You know how young people are these days.
