The Bones Are Alive.

2011-07-27T12:56:00.004-06:00

As you may know, I'm currently at NYU taking classes over the summer through a Pre-college program.
I'm taking Sociology and Forensic Anthropology. And although I enjoy Sociology...Forensic Anthropology, is my passion. In case you don't know Forensic Anthropology is basically the study of human skeletal remains. Forensic means law. And Anthropology is the study of humans. You may be familiar with the show Bones... which is going to be ME in a couple years. Anyways, I thought it would be awesome to do a post on the influence of bones, skeletons, and skulls in fashion. Especially since I currently have a bones tank top coming in the mail that I'm more than thrilled about, and that I will feature in this post.

Christian Lacroix, Spring 2009

Somarta, Spring 2009 Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, A/W 08

This skeletal fashion revival is something that makes bone people like me, absolutely bursting with JOY.

The Reality of Neverland...

2011-07-13T18:51:00.000-06:00

Hello All. It's Alie. And currently I'm in New York City, I was accepted into the NYU Pre-college program, and am currently taking Forensic Anthropology and Sociology, and while the course-load is difficult it is also extremely rewarding. I will be here for the next month, but the program itself is 6 weeks long. Before I left my hometown of Boulder, Colorado, I purchased a dress from etsy.com, I had been eager to get a dress with a "Peter Pan Collar" and the moment I set my eyes on this one... I knew it was necessary that I purchased it immediately. A few days prior to me leaving for NYU, I was walking around Boulder with my cousin when I realized that as excited as I was to be in New York City, I was scared out of my mind. I was going to be completely on my own. Part of me felt like I was like Peter Pan, like I was stuck in this "Neverland" and didn't want to have to face the challenges of growing up and moving on. So, I thought "what perfect timing, since after all i did just get a peter pan collar dress!". And who doesn't love a good pun!

The Bikini Lifestyle

2011-06-17T16:18:00.002-06:00

Recently, I took a trip to Boca Raton, Florida with my dear friend Leah. It was one of the most relaxing and restful vacations I have ever been on in my life... and I definitely wish I was still there right now. So, this post is dedicated to my fashion decisions (and some bikini shots since that's what I wore most of the time) made while staying in my favorite city ever.

Railroad Tracks and Fedoras...the Indie girl lifestyle.

2011-06-05T23:18:00.001-06:00

Recently, I had to go to a town called Erie which is, in my opinion, very barren and abandoned.

Every time I go there, I can't help but think about how depressed I would be living there.

There's something about prairies and open plains that makes me uneasy...

must be my inner city girl personality.

Anyways when I went there, I came across this abandoned railroad and barbwire fenced off area.

I thought it would be a perfect place to feature the edgy and indie style outfit that I was wearing that day.

Teal, A Blonde's Favorite.

2011-06-02T21:36:00.000-06:00

Teal and Turquoise are my favorite colors... ever.

My room is currently being redone that color and it's simply perfect.

There's something very therapeutic and calming about it.

Not to mention this color is

excellent because it looks good on everyone...

especially blondes.

At least that's what i've found over the years.

So, the other day I thought I'd pair the teal with other natural tones for a classy look.

The Power Of Leather

2011-05-19T08:49:00.000-06:00

In Seattle, I purchased a lovely leather jacket.

And I'm ALREADY obsessed with it.

Because it seems I can wear it with pretty much everything!

In Seattle, I decided to try two different outfits with the jacket.

One, is a casual outfit, that I thought was both cute and edgy. And perfect for walking around Seattle.

The other outfit, was girly meets edgy. I paired my beaded dress with the jacket and cowboy boots.

So. Here are the results of my Leather Obsession.

Actually, PEARLS Are A Girl's Best Friend

2011-05-12T01:01:00.000-06:00

You know those days where you give up on your appearance and all you want...is to be comfortable?

Because thats exactly how I felt this morning.

But, instead of throwing on my grungy sweats... I put on a soft cotton kinda stretchy dress.

WAHOO, then you get to look stylish AND feel good.

Eventually, I got out of my "funk" and put on heels though...

Naturally.

Do you ever wish that you could look lovely and classy?

Today, a lady approached me in a cafe. She apologized for staring at me, and then explained that she was just admiring my outfit. She continued to tell me that she loved how I paired a delicate little dress like that with cowboy boots. She also said that it reminded her of her wedding dress.

Its little incidents like that...

that show why I love fashion

Insomniacs: The People Who Never Sleep.

2011-05-09T01:10:00.001-06:00

Do you stay up for hours lying in bed staring at the ceiling?
Do you flip through the channels for hours only to discover 2 am tv sucks?
Do you lie there and think and think until you get a headache?

If you answered "yes" to any of those....then hello fellow insomniac.

I've decided to celebrate this disorder by looking at the couture side of the issue...

designer pajamas

This is an adorable little Betsey Johnson night gown.

The bottom trim is precious.

This is the matching blue robe!

The neckline of this robe is super cute.

Along with the ruffle trim.

Very Summer-y style Juicy Couture pajama romper.

With lace trim and bright yellow fabric is so adorable.

These Juicy Couture shorts are a must get.

I'm planning on getting them asap, the ties on the side with the bows are super cute.

The Ideas Of A Truly Intelligent Woman.

2011-05-08T22:08:00.000-06:00

Well, as all of you may or may not know. Today is mothers day.

I can say hands dow that my mum is one of the most intelligent human beings i've ever met.

She takes these walls that my school, friends, and I have put up.

These walls contain this strict guidelines as to WHO I am, WHAT I should be doing, WHERE I should be.

And the list goes on...

But, she understands that my potential.... is beyond this stupid box i've been put in.

She gets that grades don't DEFINE you.

Your CLOTHES and WEIGHT, doesn't determine your future.

That ACCEPTANCE and LOVE for others....is far more important in life than a 4.0 GPA.

Her unlimited amount of knowledge surprises me everyday.

So, three cheers for LORI!

For making me who I am today.

And never giving up on me, even when things get hard.

Walking On Sunshine.

The Famous Country Gals.

2011-05-07T20:53:00.000-06:00

I stopped at the Country Music Hall of Fame.

It was lovely. Especially since I got to see theses lovely country star dresses.

Miranda Lamberts dramatic and drapey red dress... a classic.

Ignored my obviously exhausted face.

Then we found this wild and AMAZING Carrie Underwood dress.

Apparently she wore it to the CMAs

Everything from the layered bottom to the top with detailed flowers is beautiful.

Here is me and Tay Swifts amazing gold dress.

Man, I love the gold detail on the top is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L.

2011-05-07T19:24:00.000-06:00

Hello, I'm Alie. I love forensics, psychology, tennis, Young Life, my friends, and myself. But what I have discovered recently that I have an undying love for, is the south.

Recently I took a trip to Tennessee, we spent the majority of the time in Knoxville and then also spent a day is Nashville.

In Knoxville I toured the University of Tennessee, I absolutely loved it. I prepared days prior what I was going to wear. Naturally. And concluded that I was going to wear this little number...

Outfit: I consider it classy, simple and sweet. Just like the south!

The sunglasses and pink sweater are from Nordstrom.

Skirt is from Forever 21.

White Shirt is from Lululemon.

And the shoes are navy Sperry boat shoes.

So, I threw this together just before

going out for dinner with my mum and sister!

Anthropologie Striped Shirt.

Jolt Jeans.

Nordstrom Pearl Earrings.

Classic navy Sperry Boat shoes.

Classic Simple.

Then the next day was Nashville so I thought I'd go all out COUNTRY!

This was my little Nashville number. This includes...

University of Tennessee T-Shirt.

Jolt Jeans.

Hair Braided Back.

And Frye Cowboy Boots.

My inner Tay. Swift clearly came out that day.
