<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">I&#8217;ve recently been looking at ways to handle my time more effectively and achieve more success in my areas of weakness. This post is going to give you information that could easily be sold &#8230; I love you lot and this is another little gift to say thanks for all your wonderful comments and feedback.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Mainly I&#8217;ve been looking at the likes of Tony Robbins and Jim Rohn.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">So what goodies have I got for you? Well, I would advise you check out a series called &#8220;Get the Edge&#8221; if you want the full picture I&#8217;m getting as far as Tony Robbins trainings go, but I wanted to give you a special collection of tips right away that you can use today to achieve massive results.</span></p>
<p><strong><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">TIP 1: GIVE YOURSELF SOME PAIN!!</span></strong></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">What a horrible tip to start this off with? &#8230; Or is it? Put it this way, this is the only context where I will tell you to give yourself stress. Think of it this way, if you want to change you have to have enough of a reason to, and the thing that drives most people believe it or not is avoidance of pain.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">So you need to get incredibly honest with yourself, and face up directly to your shortcomings before you&#8217;ll do something about them.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">&#8220;Thanks Matt!&#8221; I hear you cry. &#8220;I came to your blog looking for some inspiration and then you go and make me think my life is bad &#8230; cheers!!&#8221;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">I know, it&#8217;s not the nicest advice you&#8217;ll have read online &#8230; but it works. People don&#8217;t change until they have had enough of their current situation.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Ask yourself &#8230; why is changing this a MUST? Why is this situation disgusting &#8230;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">If you&#8217;re healthy there&#8217;s always growth going on &#8230; always more ways to grow and become more than we were. Spiritually, physically, relationships etc&#8230;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">So identifying these things is actually the first stage of that healthy cycle of outgrowing previous unhealthy habits. First honesty &#8230;.</span></p>
<p><strong><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">TIP 2: Identify Your Goal</span></strong></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Now you&#8217;ve got disturbed the last thing you need is to wallow in it &#8230; so what&#8217;s next? Get clear on what you want instead &#8230; very clear. For instance if you want to handle your levels of peace of mind &#8230; get clear on how you want to get there.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Maybe you want to get to the stage where you&#8217;re meditating 20 minutes everyday, and feeling incredibly peaceful. Well by when? Perhaps within the next 2 months?</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Okay &#8230; here&#8217;s where it gets interesting.</span></p>
<p><strong><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">TIP 3: START YOUR DAY BEFORE YOU BEGIN</span></strong></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">You wouldn&#8217;t build a house without previously writing up clear plans &#8230; so imagine how easy it is to build a lopsided life with poor foundations, by never being clear on what you want it to be.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">We&#8217;ve all done it &#8230; we repeatedly say &#8220;I don&#8217;t know where the years have gone.&#8221; We inadvertently drift through our days caught in thing we see as urgent at the time &#8230; most of us in fact are guided by the demands of the world around us, and they&#8217;ll always be there.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">The only way to overcome this is to get clear on your day before you begin it, and to be adaptable as you go. Okay, so sounds great but how?</span></p>
<p><strong><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">TIP 4: Eliminate Rationalisations (or &#8216;softeners&#8217;)</span></strong></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Okay, you&#8217;re getting there, but this is a vital step, you have to find out what stories you&#8217;ve told yourself until now that hold you back.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Why? Because these are the one thing that stop you from following through (besides being unconscious of the process)</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Once you master this you&#8217;ll be that much closer to success. What do I mean by &#8216;softeners&#8217;?</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Well ask yourself this question and you&#8217;ll probably be able to tell me yourself &#8230;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">What would I have to&#8217;ve believed until now to not have followed through? Don&#8217;t keep reading, just take 5 seconds to answer this question, or this just won&#8217;t work for you.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Here were some of my answers &#8230;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">- I don&#8217;t have time</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">- I can do it later</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">- I can do it tomorrow</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">- It might not work out</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">I&#8217;ve got to keep this brief but let me show you how I found out how much I was lying to myself. Basically all I had to ask &#8230; is that really true?</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Time &#8230; the only thing that is actually equal among us humans, we don&#8217;t have equal opportunity, or equal financial support etc&#8230;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">What I realised is that all I need do is begin &#8230; even if only for 2 minutes &#8230; 2 minutes is better than nothing. Starting small is better than never getting started at all.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">&#8220;I can do it later/tomorrow&#8221;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">The fact is tomorrow never comes, and later is just another form of the same way of making yourself feel better about putting something important off. Prioritizing comes down to this &#8230; </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Efficiency is doing things right</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Effectiveness is doing the right things</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Being effective is always what makes you successful, not being efficient. Don&#8217;t let what seems urgent but unimportant get in the way of what is important but doesn&#8217;t seem urgent.</span></p>
<p><strong><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">TIP 5: Triple R</span></strong></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Okay &#8230; this is it &#8230; when you wake up in the morning you need to do this process in your mind before you do anything else, before you even leave your bed.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;"><strong>R no. 1 &#8211; Result</strong> &#8211; Ask yourself this question first &#8220;What result am I committed to achieving?&#8221; And answer it &#8230; get very clear on the result you&#8217;re after for your day.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;"><strong>R no. 2 &#8211; Reasons</strong> &#8211; Now you need to ask yourself &#8220;Why MUST I achieve this&#8221; &#8230; Get emotional about it, look at what will happen if you do get it done, and what will happen if you don&#8217;t &#8230; you need an explosion of fuel/energy to blast your plan in to action. This is the only thing that will help you keep going in face of challenges.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;"><strong>R no. 3 &#8211; Route -</strong> Now you just need to determine exactly how you&#8217;re going to get there &#8230; be specific with regard to WHEN and HOW &#8230; what I mean by how is, there is many ways to achieve the same result &#8230; but some ways are far more healthy, effective, integral and fun &#8230; be as specific as possible.</span></p>
<p><strong><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">FINAL WORD</span></strong></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Don&#8217;t be too hard on yourself if you don&#8217;t get it perfect. You need to treat yourself as you&#8217;d like someone else to treat you. Reward yourself for getting things approximately right in the beginning, you can give yourself acknowledgement even if the world doesn&#8217;t. But remember to use the above when you find yourself drifting off the path towards a healthy life.</span></p>

I&#8217;ve been inundated like most of us are around this time of year. I&#8217;m nearly done creating a course that is going to blow your frikin&#8217; minds. It&#8217;s gonna be free.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">There&#8217;ll be a couple of upgrades too that will be very reasonably priced for those ready to give this life changing stuff a fair test for 2011.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">So back to this quote.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Well as I told you, I&#8217;m building this course right, and it has not been easy. It&#8217;s been like running a marathon, and I&#8217;m definitely reaching a point where I&#8217;m finding it difficult to maintain focus.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">So, here and there I&#8217;ve been slipping in my productivity, and I&#8217;m very disciplined generally with myself. Not so long I slipped to the point where I had to use one of my own techniques which you can find on the &#8220;Take Back Your Life In 8 Easy Steps&#8221; page.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">This kicked me back in to action, which is great. It&#8217;s always nice to have something like this technique to be able to use as a backbone when things get harder than usual.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">So here&#8217; the quote that put the icing on the cake today.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">For those of you who don&#8217;t know, Hellen Keller was blind and deaf from birth. Yet she learnt to read and write! Now if that&#8217;s not overcoming challenges I don&#8217;t know what is. So this woman definitely had a right to talk about such matters.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">I hope this quote inspires you the way it did me today.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">I hope you can carry it with you through the year ahead and start to make some real progress in whatever it is that matters most.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;"><strong>Is Meditation Good For Everyone?</strong></span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Scientific studies on meditation have shown nothing but positive effects when meditation is practised and taught correctly. Being a natural process, any effects that emerge are the   result of the releases of tension and illness. These &#8216;releases&#8217; happen frequently for one who remains devoted to their practice of meditation.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">I like keeping eyes and ears open for new evidence, and I have yet to find a single person that has not benefited from meditation when it is practised correctly and regularly. As I mention in the FAQ video; “What is Meditation?”, there are many ways you can screw up the process of meditation and wind up getting little or no results. I have directly experienced this from nearly a decade of trial and error using countless books from experts through to Masters in the field, and some who called themselves experts, but were really only partially informed.  Now I also have the experience of instructing others on the path myself, and this has affirmed that understanding even more.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">I recommend that if you are interested in meditation, or even just a little curious; rather than relying on &#8216;hearsay&#8217;, you decide if it is right for you, by trialling it for yourself for a 12 week period.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">This is a length of time that gives you enough of a measure to see the effects. </span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">During this time, you can keep a journal to observe how you feel before and after meditating, and to look at your behaviours as a scientist would, to see if there is a shift; however subtle in your reactions to life in general. For instance if you start back-flipping out of bed with a smile like a child with a bunch of presents, and that is unusual for you, it may be worth noting.</span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif;"><span style="font-size: small;">Keeping a journal is important for those who want a clear idea of what is happening as a result of their practice, as sometimes  the results are so subtle yet effective, that you barely notice them happening until you hit a plateau, or milestone as it were.</span></span></p>

<p><strong>Where did Meditation Come From?</strong></p>
<p>Meditation is as old as creation, because it is an inherent state in all of creation. It is simple, natural. Although like anything else, it has been through a process of evolution and sometimes de-evolution in the way human beings have realised it.</p>
<p>In terms of physical, tangible examples of the age of meditation as a documented practice, meditation techniques can be found in scriptures dated 5000 years old or more. You can find it referenced or taught by many, if not all of the greatest philosophers, scientists and leaders in history, in some form or another.</p>
<p>Animals meditate in a way, they observe life carefully and use the wisdom they gain from doing so to make careful decisions with regard to their survival. They take time to rest mindfully, not being busy with anything; to just observe the nature of what is going on. The difference with humans though according to science, is that we have intellect and self-awareness. Although, mind you, nobody has ever proven that animals have no intellect or self-awareness at all. I believe they drew this conclusion by animals having no interest in their own reflection, so this is really still dubious. Anyway, as we have seen by the way of our modern culture, intellect and self-awareness can be a blessing and a curse. However, when used properly, this tool can help a person manifest the deepest of all possible wisdom.</p>
<p>Meditation as most westerners have come to know it; thanks to the 60&#8242;s and 70&#8242;s, is rooted in Buddhist tradition, but it has been used in all religions and traditions of the world in some form or another, and even by those who practice no religion or do not follow any tradition. Meditation is a practice, a &#8216;suck it and see&#8217; method, not a belief system.</p>
<p>Basically, the moment you actually observe what is going on for yourself, and no longer get caught up in conditioned thoughts by habituation; you are meditating. However, as with anything in life, there are ways to hinder yourself thereby taking years to achieve what could have taken only months. There are also discoveries that have already been found, that if you observe them, will speed up your ability to &#8216;get the whole picture&#8217;, so to speak.</p>
<p>Meditation techniques like the ones you will be learning, are tried and tested, people having done all the hard work, so you can &#8216;stand on the shoulders of giants&#8217;, to get a better view of the terrain.</p>
<p><strong><strong>Do I have to make my mind blank? Do I have to concentrate?</strong></strong></p>
<p>The method pertains to allowing a natural relaxation of thought processes to observe a-new. This is achieved through a consistency of not too hard, not too soft concentration. You do not need to make your mind blank to be meditating. Meditation is as I said earlier, the process of observation becoming more refined through transcendence of preconception, and the use of that capacity to observe, to contemplate things more clearly. With this process, often the thought processes may stop all by themselves.</p>
<p>One has to be discerning about what they meditate <em>on</em> as there are many ways to cause damage to oneself by being mislead. This misleading only tends to happen because people are rarely asked to question and look at things clearly for themselves.</p>
<p>If something clearly isn&#8217;t loving or transparent, it can&#8217;t be very accurate. This is why another important aspect of insight meditation is to focus on virtues or universal laws, one&#8217;s we&#8217;ve all heard like &#8220;Do unto others as you would have done unto you&#8221;&#8230; etc. In contemplating this principle for instance, you can uncover it&#8217;s purpose, in observing it clearly, you can see if it holds value. When one sees the value in a principle, they naturally begin acting in accordance with it. No punishment system needed.</p>

<p>Meditation is the act of using a technique; or series of techniques, to relax and naturally quiet the mind to achieve laser like clarity, focus and wisdom. But additionally, (something often missed) &#8211; meditation is the action of using that powerful quiet, relaxed, yet alert focus, to discover the true nature of anything observed, free of pre-conception.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s important to know that meditation is NOT blocking ones thoughts. This is one of the worst things you can do to your mind and system, and I&#8217;ll get in to why at a later date.</p>
<p>What is the cause of suffering usually? Have you ever had something in life happen to you that at the time you thought was AWFUL&#8230; and then 2 years later turned out to be for the best? What if, while it was happening, you could have had the perspective and wisdom you had looking back 2 years later?</p>
<p>Would that have saved you a whole lot of suffering? As they say, &#8220;hindsight is 20:20 vision.&#8221;</p>
<p>This is just a small example of the power of being able to go beyond your perceptions, and view life anew, with that pin-point clarity. However, although this is the meditation path, not all courses teach the whole process, in fact many only teach the first half - <em><strong>if that</strong></em> &#8211; many in fact teach only the first quarter to a third &#8211; and this portion I&#8217;m referring to can be called &#8220;Calming&#8221;. This when only used, by itself can actually be damaging, depending on what thoughts end up replacing the old ones.</p>
<p>The second aspect, that must be handled if one is to <em>truly</em> walk the path of <strong>meditation</strong>, is &#8220;Insight&#8221;.</p>
<p>They are like the 2 wings of an aero-plane or bird, one without the other will have you flying around in circles at best, that&#8217;s if you even manage to get off the ground.</p>
<p>Please be aware that as with anything, there are charlatans and true examples, I recommend you take<em><strong>nothing</strong></em> for granted, and observe things for yourself as a scientist would. <p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">A recent explosion, a drama in the family that was rather an aggressive encounter. I was able to keep a sense of balance and clarity during the event. I managed to mitigate the effects of the madness that had come over these 2 people I love that were now at each others throats, I walked away with no resentment towards anyone involved despite harsh words pointed my way unduly and even physical threats because of involving myself to minimise the damage they inflicted on each other.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Do you know what got me?</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">The next day I woke up and found no apology!</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Funny huh? I found another button I hadn&#8217;t quite dealt with and this was my challenge to overcome and become a better person for it.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">I was happy to accept that people make mistakes but to not own up to them immediately the next day got my back up.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">It took plenty of meditative insight not to take actions based on the anger, I rang up one of the people involved and said my piece &#8220;I think it&#8217;s not right that I have not been apologised to&#8221; and left it at that. This gave that person a sense that I was being self-righteous and I can see why. But this of course was not my intention. I simply wanted them to know I felt direspected and wasn&#8217;t willing to accept it.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">I personally have found that forgiveness is about recognising the causes and conditions that allow a person to act out as they do, and then taking action if possible to change the causes and conditions that perpetuate the suffering.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">At this point I have said what I think is wrong out of anger, not perspective. Soon enough I realise that I have a choice, and I make it clear. Once this is done I no longer feel any anger. This is how I handle it.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">I told the person that I do not expect an apology, in fact I expect nothing at all, however, I gave them a choice. I would not involve myself with them until we had discussed the issue properly and begun our relationship on a footing of respect once more. If this could not be achieved, if they weren&#8217;t willing to do this, then I would not be having a relationship with them until we had achieved it via discussion either between the 2 of us or if necessary with a 3rd party present or otherwise.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">From here my freedom had returned along with theirs. I had found a win-win, I was not allowing myself to be a doormat, but I was not imposing my will on them either. I had chosen the basis of the relationship rather than letting it choose me out of habit. The resulting conversation from there was only positive. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">I have yet to speak to the other person of the 2 involved as they aren&#8217;t in great shape (which previously I was angrily and stubbornly not willing to accept &#8211; it&#8217;s amazing how anger can blind you from seeing a wider perspective), but now I am sure there will be no problem when that person is ready to talk. And I have no need to rush the situation. Until they are ready I will continue happily with my life.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Fact is without <a href="http://www.freemeditationsystem.com/free-meditation.html" target="_blank">meditation</a> I could not have achieved this insight.</span></p>
