Update - January 2009

Firstly please accept my apologies for a lack of activity on the Web site over the last few months. There has been a tremendous amount of work going on behind the scenes which has really been monopolising my time, but I am making it my New year’s resolution to update the website more frequently.

Freestyle Circuit

The 28th November marked a year since Dan’s passing and this sad event was marked by The University of Exeter’s “Circuit Squad” getting together to be willingly “beasted” by myself with a Freestyle circuit training session. Dan would have been smiling to have seen people getting a thorough workout with no equipment other than each other’s body weight and gravity. You may notice from the sweaty clothes, that a good workout was had by all.

Seminars

Towards the end of this coming year I am hoping to be in a position to offer Seminars on Freestyle Strength and Conditioning to Sports groups. These will be in the form of a half day seminar which will cover basic Anatomy and Physiology, training principals/variables, exercises and programs. I am hoping to write the course content over the summer when my workload is usually “quieter”!

Newsletter

I am hoping to start an electronic newsletter in the next few months which will cover all things Freestyle and some things conventional (Sorry Dan). Subscribers will have this popping into their inboxes every other month to start with, so please keep your eyes peeled for this.

Equipment

I am frequently being asked where people can buy certain items of equipment with sleds being the most popular! I am currently in talks with a friend and equipment manufacturer of mine and hope to have some exciting news on this soon!

Regards for now

Update - August 2008

On the 27th July Andrew cycled 103.6 miles from the outskirts of Exeter to Porthleven in Cornwall in support of the National association of Crohns and Colitis disease.
Completing the route in just over 6.5 hours Andrew said, “ At 95kg I am not your typical cyclist build, but I do love the challenge of a long distance ride. It was a really hot day and I struggled to keep my heart rate down on the last few climbs but it was well worth it”.

Andrew is already planning a similar ride for next year.

Dan Welch Memorial Fund
Four athletics bursaries have been set up in memory of Dan Welch. Four Exeter University athletes have been chosen to receive a bursary of £200. The money for these bursaries was raised from donations at Dan's funeral last year.

Iain Abernethy Website
For those who might not have heard of him, Iain Abernethy is one of the Country's leading martial arts authors on pragmatic Karate training. As a long standing friend of Andrew's, Iain has recently been impressed by what Freestyle Performance has to offer and has agreed to run an article on FP in his August newsletter.
We are really grateful to Iain for this and anyone wishing to visit his website can do so at: www.iainabernethy.com

And finally.....
I have a new sled being delivered soon, so keep your eyes open for some new sled exercises in the video locker over the next couple of months

Update - April 2008

If you have visited this website recently and you don’t know any of us here at Freestyle personally, you may have been confused to find your access into the website blocked. The reason for this is that the founder and creator of Freestyle Performance, (Dan Welch) was tragically killed in a car accident in November 2007.

Even if you had never met Dan, you could not have failed to notice the passion that he had for his profession and the development of Freestyle Performance in particular. His boundless energy and enthusiasm for all things Freestyle was infectious and motivating to all who met or trained with him. Whilst there are many Coaches who have the technical knowledge of their profession, very few have that added magical quality that inspires all who come into contact with them. Dan had this added quality in abundance and he is sadly missed by all who knew him.

Just before his untimely death, Dan and I had started to talk about how we could work together to promote Freestyle Strength and Conditioning to the wider audience. We had discussed lots of plans but unfortunately as we are both very similar, any sensible conversation soon moved off on to a tangent and we eventually forgot what we were supposed to be discussing!

Following a number of conversations with Dan’s family it was decided that the work that he started should continue and develop. I am therefore honoured to undertake this task and will be working hard to keep the momentum of Freestyle Performance moving.

Over the coming months you will see new articles and information appearing on this website. I will be working hard to ensure that Freestyle Performance maintains the core values that Dan believed in whilst introducing a few weird and wonderful ideas of my own.

Regards

That’s right! We’ve finally got some new
stuff available. Our plan is to add more stuff around the
end of each month. You never know though, something might
creep in there in between. So, please subscribe to the
RSS feed to keep in touch.

This month we’ve added a guide to explain more about what a
Freestyle Performance training session is and how you
can get the most from a Freestyle Performance training
             session.

We’ve also added a new article – GPP Circuits. This article is about
selecting exercise techniques that condition and rely
on the harmony of all muscle groups and joint
             functions.

Where is the Discussion Board you might ask? Don’t
worry it is coming. We’ve been spending our time
working on another project for Freestyle Performance!?!
