Mexico and a birthday...

I just got back from a wonderful vacation in Mexico, and boy, do I feel relaxed : three days of sun, coconuts, white sand beaches and good food - and drinks - with my loved ones. I celebrated my 41st birthday the best way possible.

I'm not one of those who see aging as a challenge. I feel so much better in my shoes today at 41 then I did in my 20s. I know what I want, who I am and what's important to me. I learnt how to say "no"- and this one took me a while - and how to stay perseverant when needed. I like my eyesight wrinkles because they show that I smile and laugh a lot. I love my job but my family always comes first. I don't spend my money as I used to on futilities, but rather splurge on vacation with people that matter to me. Here is to being in your 40s, and looking forward to the next decade! Namaste!

Je viens tout juste de rentrer d'un séjour passé en famille au Mexique pour célébrer mes 41 ans. Je me sens toute neuve et requinquée, merci le soleil, les plages de sable blanc, les cocotiers et le farniente - bon, aussi les cocktails, c'est vrai.

Je ne fais pas partie de celles pour qui avoir 41 ans est un souci. Je me sens bien mieux dans mes baskets aujourd'hui que quand j'avais 20 ans. Je sais qui je suis, ce que je veux, j'ai appris à dire "non" - et ça, ça m'a pris un sacré temps - et à tenir bon quand c'est important à mes yeux. J'aime mes rides parce qu'elles montrent à quel point j'ai ri et souri. J'adore mon boulot, mais ma famille passe avant. Je ne dépense plus mon argent dans des futilités, mais préfère claquer mes sous dans des destinations de rêve pour passer du temps de qualité avec ceux que j'aime. Alors, à nos 40 berges à toutes, et vivement la prochaine décennie! Namasté!

I received the "Living in Brussels" book as a Mother's Day gift and have been drooling over every page of it. The book presents inspiring Brussels interiors and their inhabitants. Seriously, what's their secret? These people's homes are stylish, warm and welcoming, mix naturally vintage finds with modern pieces. These eclectic homes are real, as in lived-in, and not empty, styled to the extreme showcases, like some books present. If you are into real authentic vintage, get this book. Mine is on the coffee table and it's a true conversational piece.

J'ai reçu le livre "Living in Brussels" comme cadeau de fête des mères, et je bave devant chaque page depuis quelques jours. Le livre présente des intérieurs bruxellois et les familles qui y vivent. Sérieusement, quel est leur secret? Ces intérieurs éclectiques ont du style, de la chaleur et de la convivialité, ils mélangent divinement des pièces vintage à des éléments modernes. ce sont de vrais intérieurs, pas des espaces ultra stylisés pour la photographie. Si vous êtes adepte du vrai vintage, alors procurez vous ce livre. Une véritable merveille et source d'inspiration.

I've been playing a lot with my new camera and while downloading some pictures, I thought I would share some with you here on the blog. Maya, my youngest daughter, has asked me to update her room, to fit more her "teenage" spirit. It's funny how when you work in interior design, your kids develop a strong sense of style, and while playing the photographer in her room, I realized that this young lady did not need any of my help. How do you handle decor in your children's room? Do you let them express themselves too?

J'ai joué un peu avec mon nouvel appareil photo et en important les clichés sur mon ordinateur, je me suis dit que j'en partagerais quelques uns avec vous. Maya, la plus jeune de mes filles, m'a demandé de relooker un peu sa chambre, pour sortir de l'univers enfant et coller plus à son style pré-ado. C'est marrant comment quand on bosse dans la déco, nos enfants développent leur sens du style et en jouant les photographes dans la chambre de Maya, j'ai réalisé qu'elle n'avait pas vraiment besoin de mon aide. Et vous, vous laissez vous aussi vos enfants s'exprimer dans leur déco?

You know by now that I've always had a soft spot for all things vintage. I don't want my interior to look like a flea market either, but mixing vintage pieces with modern finds always adds so much personality to a space. Finding the perfect balance can be tricky though, but it's worth the trial and error phase. There is nothing that adds warmth to an interior as easily as vintage elements do. Check these spaces. To me, they perfectly demonstrate how vintage uplifts an interior and gives it a unique look.

Scout some old drawers at the next garage sale and arrange them on a wall as extra storage for gloves, hats and other pieces kids throw by the entrance door (left). Arrange your flea market finds as display pieces on a wall for a striking statement (right).

Chances are you'll find many game 'skeletons' for almost nothing at flea markets because they are missing pieces, but be on the look out for graphics, colors, and shapes.

Bon, ce n'est plus un secret pour personne, j'ai toujours eu un faible pour le vintage. Je ne veux pas non plus d'un espace qui ressemble à une gigantesque brocante ou l'intérieur de ma grand-mère, mais en mélangeant des pièces vintage à des meubles et éléments plus modernes, on obtient un intérieur plein de personnalité. Le truc est de trouver le parfait dosage. Il y a peu d'éléments qui rajoutent autant de chaleur et de convivialité à un intérieur que le vintage. Regardez ces espaces. Ils illustrent à mes yeux ce fameux parfait dosage et montrent comment le vintage rajoute instantanément un "je ne sais quoi" à votre déco, sans jamais faire "mémé".

Ashley, a California girl, now lives in Melbourne, Australia, with boyfriend Stefano, and runs Global Vintage Collective, a womenswear shop that sells handpicked vintage clothing. Ashley's home is filled with pieces that she scouted and collected while traveling around the globe for her shop : "I prefer vintage to new. It's usually more interesting, and I think things were better made back in the day." Oh, I couldn't agree more with that statement!

What is up with this weather? After a super cold month of April, we had a glimpse of spring, and then pffew.... gone... back to grey, rain and I even heard it slightly snowed in Provence a few days ago. Seriously? So I prepared a "spring" mix to put us in the mood of warmer and brighter days.

Que se passe-t-il avec le temps? Après un mois d'avril super froid, on a eu un avant gout de printemps la semaine dernière et puis, pffiou, plus rien, retour au gris, tout moche...J'ai même entendu qu'il avait un peu neiger dans le sud de la France. Sérieusement? Alors j'ai préparé un petit billet de printemps, pour nous mettre en mode couleur et prétendre que le printemps est réellement arrivé... On y croit fort!

You've probably already seen some pics of this fabulous space last year, but when I came across the entire flat, I had to share it. It's the home of Hanne, stylist and owner of her own clothing line. Ultra minimalist, her flat, located North of Copenhagen, mixes industrial era finds with modern pieces and vintage flea markets finds, all around the black and white theme. Special mention for the chalkboard wall in Frederikke's room, Hanne's teenage daughter, where all the guests can leave personalized messages.

Vous avez probablement déjà vu quelques clichés de cet appartement l'année dernière sur la blogosphère, mais quand j'ai vu le lieu au complet, je me suis dit que ça valait la peine de partager. C'est l'appartement de Hanne, situé au Nord de Copenhagen. Hanne est styliste et propriétaire de sa propre griffe de vêtements. Ultra minimaliste, le lieu mélange avec brio des trouvailles de l'ère industrielle à des grandes pièces du design ou des objets chinés en brocante, le tout dans une harmonie parfaite de noir et de blanc. Coup de coeur particulier pour le tableau noir tête de lit dans la chambre de Fredderikke, la fille d'Hanne, ou les amis de passage peuvent laisser des petits messages personnalisés.

Hey, lovelies! A quick stop on the blog today to share a great DIY idea I just spotted for our four legged friends : this super easy DIY dog bed. Take a bread crate, the ones that are long and rather flat where bakers used to transport their bread loafs [i had a few nice vintage ones on the shop] then sow a fluffy bed top with linen or twill and voilà! You'll have a dog bed that looks cool in your interior as well as a happy dog! Another great example of a repurposed vintage object!

Prenez une vieille caisse de boulanger [j'en avais récemment dans le shop] - celles aux dimensions larges et plutôt plates autrefois utilisées par les boulangers pour transporter leurs fournées de pain - rajoutez-y un lit fait maison [lin épais, toile denim ou bachette] bien rempli et molletonné ou un grand coussin si la couture maison n'est pas une option, et voilà, vous avez un lit qui ne dénature pas avec votre déco, et un chien heureux! Summer al fresco with Le Repère des Belettes

With the warm weather comes more time outdoors and, as a family, we spend a lot of time in our yard and patio. I look forward to some al fresco dining or just hanging out with my other half sipping a glass of wine at the end of the day, when the heat of the sun is gone.

So while browsing through the Repère des Belettes e-shop, I was mainly attracted by these pieces that can transform a simple yard into a real outdoor room. Look at this amazing camp cot from the 1970s with its metal legs! I spotted it at the recent vente éphémère Le Repère des Belettes was hosting in Paris, along with La Maison d'Anna G. and Happy Home delicious stores, and this camp cot is only better in person! So paired with some vintage linen pillows, a string of lights that gives the yard a French "Bastille Day" flair, you should be set for some serious outdoor al fresco time - I also love to display a straw tote like this one on the patio, to store plaids for the chillier part of the evening, or like here, a fresh impromptu bouquet of flowers. Oh, warm weather, I am so, so, so happy you are back!

Avec les températures qui se réchauffent, nous nous apprêtons à passer de plus en plus de temps en famille au jardin. J'aime aussi me détendre avec mon homme et un bon verre de vin frais à la fin de la journée pour discuter de tout et de rien, quand le soleil et ses rayons agressifs partent se coucher!

Alors en me baladant sur le site du Repère des Belettes, j'ai naturellement craqué cette fois-ci sur des articles pour transformer le jardin en véritable pièce extérieure. J'ai un gros, gros coup de coeur pour ce lit de camp des années 1970 avec sa structure en métal. Je l'ai vu en vrai pour tout vous dire à la vente éphémère que le Repère des Belettes, La Maison d'Anna G et Happy Home ont organisée en commun il y a peu de temps à Paris. Et je peux vous dire que ce lit de camp est même plus beau en personne! Agrémenté de ces jolis coussins en toile ancienne de lin et une guirlande lumineuse qui donnera des airs de fête au jardin, vous êtes prête pour des moments al fresco de pro! Et j'aime aussi poser des paniers en osier comme celui-ci au patio ou j'entrepose quelques plaids pour les nuits plus fraiches ou comme ici, un bouquet inattendu de fleurs du jardin. Oh, beau temps, comme je suis heureuse que tu sois arrivé!

This is the interior of Mette, product designer and owner of the Danish interior store Base 212. Located in Copenhagen, the space is a fifth floor apartment inundated with light that Mette decorated with a 1960-70s vibe, using bold patterns and bright colors. Although not a huge space, this apartment's personality is grandiose!

Voici l'intérieur de Mette, designer et propriétaire de la marque danoise Base 212. Cet appartement de Copenhagen est situé au 5ème étage d'un immeuble et inondé de lumière naturelle. Mette, grande fan des années 1960-70, a décoré son intérieur avec des couleurs vives et beaucoup de motifs graphiques. Même si l'appartement n'est pas immense en taille, l'effet crée par Mette reste grandiose!

Bonjour, lecteurs et lectrices du blog, je suis de retour de mon voyage, et même si Paris me manque déjà, je suis heureuse d'être à la maison auprès de ceux que j'aime. Je voulais redire aussi un grand merci à mes amis blogueurs Anna, Victoria, Eleni, Valérie, Kirsten, Veronika, Igor et Céline pour leurs merveilleux billets pendant mon absence. C'est ce qui m'émerveille le plus dans la blogosphère : le sens de la communauté et les liens qu'on y tisse, et je suis tellement honorée d'avoir pu compter sur ce groupe talentueux de blogueurs et blogueuses. Alors merci encore mes amis.

Aujourd'hui, je récupère de mon décalage horaire, je décharge ma valise et gère autres délicieuses taches post-voyage telles que la lessive et la lecture de mes emails en retard. Le blog reprendra son rythme habituel dès lundi. Bon weekend! Si-
