The Hicks family is looking forward to welcoming another addition in a few short weeks. I was asked to come over to their house to document life as they know it. A snap shot of life pre-baby. What I see from the outside are two beautiful adults who are working hard at being the best versions of themselves while holding down two challenging jobs and doing an amazing job parenting their beautiful first-born, Arthur, all the while anticipating the arrival of baby #2. It's a wild time! And a beautiful time. Arthur is 2 and is doing his job of being 2 perfectly. He is on the ride of his life with ups and downs, gales of laughter and wails of defeat. He is precious. It was such a treat to spend a little time with you guys. You are beautiful. All of you. And I can't wait to lay eyes on the next, lovely addition. I'm cheering wildly from the sidelines!

Girouard Family

We made a very challenging choice to take our kids out of full-time daycare and put them in a mother's day out program this time last year. It has been both an extremely rewarding year and a far harder year than I anticipated. I never knew how much I did without my kids underfoot that would need to be attended to in their company...

One thing that has made this year more enjoyable has been new friendships. My kids are in the same classes as the two oldest Girouard kiddos, and that has meant our paths have crossed A LOT. Additionally, the mother of this beautiful crew happens to be a friendly, open, fellow mom in the trenches, down to earth, loving, kind hearted person. My kids got friends, and so did I! It's a major win-win!

So when I was asked to snap a few shots of them to commemorate the baby's first birthday, it was a no brainer. Enjoy the smiles and the memories! Love all five of you! MT

I don't actually remember when I met the Lincicomes. My memory includes swim team and baby sitting and somehow has extended into my late 30's... They are fond memories and lovely people. So when I got the text to see if I could do a photo shoot... like... in two days, I checked to see what was on the calendar and said YES! The group has expanded since swim team days. There are two new adults and three beautiful children. They had all gathered for the weekend to baptize the two newest additions! Dressed in the finery at 9:00am on a Sunday, we tip toed our way through the Old Mill grounds and snapped what I hope will be cherished moments for years to come. Enjoy the images!

I'm telling you what, to be asked YEARS later to return to take photos of a former bride and groom and their family is such an honor and a treat. Navigating a wedding and album design together is a bonding experience. At this point, it's like seeing old friends! A couple of weeks ago, I joined Helen and her parents at their house to capture images of this girl at age one. She had the sniffles and maybe something happening with her ear and of course had a rougher than usual night leading up to our early morning visit. But rest assured, that is strangely normal. Despite not feeling 100%, Helen showed us her adorable personality complete with 2 cute teeth, a big smile, and intense blue eyes. She's a doll. I hope you enjoy!

I'm biased. I know that and so should you. We just need to get that out of the way. Now we can proceed...

Juniper Bell arrived on November 20, 2015, 6 weeks ahead of time. She spent some weeks... I lost count... in NICU. She is the first niece I have added to my collection, and I couldn't be more pleased. Life with a preemie is something I have never witnessed before. It is intense, calendared and calculated, needier, in many ways foreign to my experience. She is now almost one month past her due date and is reminding me more of the babies I brought home. Starting to track when people are around, eating well and more on demand, fattening up, getting louder. It's amazing to see. It feels like babies grow in timelapse photography. They literally grow before our eyes that first year.

My sister-in-law, Lori, big-brother Walt, Juniper, and I gathered at their house two days before Christmas to snap a few photos to commemorate her arrival. I hope you appreciate the beauty of these people as much as I do. I'm so lucky to call them my own. I love you all to the moon and back!

Sitting down to these pictures and this post brings tears to my eyes and a swell to my heart. A swell of joy, a swell of love, a swell of persistence. My brother, Sam, and his lovely wife, Lori, have one amazing kid, Walt. It has been on Lori's heart for YEARS to have another baby. And this year... it happened! And not only did it happen, Juniper Bell is HERE. I haven't had a chance to spend any amount of time with her, yet, but I know my time will come to be with her and love on her and soak in the light that infants bring. It is with great adoration that I bring you a few pics of Lori's maternity session. It was a short gathering to document this time in her life. I know I was the one that took the photos and have loved this woman for decades, but I think I can say without bias that she is GORGEOUS. Lori, you are such a gift to me. It's not every day that someone turns 50. This day happened to be the 50th birthday celebration of my husband's Aunt Kim. Her grandboys were in town for the celebration (gift enough for a grandma). My mother in law asked if I could photograph, as a gift to Kim on her behalf, Kim with her very favorite little people. On a brisk November morning, we all met up at the creek and snapped a few shots of these cute people. With littles, it is guaranteed to be chaotic and cuteness to the max. These pics make me smile. Kim, I wish you all the best as you turn your face toward a new decade. I hope it brings with it more joy, more peace, more life, more breath. You are loved and lovely from the inside out. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Meet Lucy

I was invited into Lucy's home to document a moment in her first days. She arrived over the weekend, and the day before Thanksgiving her mom and dad asked for me to come snap some photos of them to commemorate her arrival. She is a healthy, strong baby girl who is going to have to grow up fast to keep up with her vibrant big sister, Claire. I enjoyed my time with this little nugget - waiting for her to eat, to fall asleep, to have her diapers and clothes changed. It's always a treat to enter in to the new life with a newborn and to watch everyone gather around as they explore this new person and routine. I am honored to have been asked. You/we have so much to be thankful for. Enjoy some of my favorites.

This family is dear to my heart. I have been doing life with them for almost 30 years. T.H.I.R.T.Y. years?! I met them at church, and Jenny and I have managed to stay friends (God bless her) through the good and the bad. And that friendship with Jenny means I get the rest of this motley crew, too!! We gathered 6 years ago for a family shoot, and it was such an honor to have them over to my house for a photoshoot to commemorate this season in their life. They've added one since we last got together, but all the people that used to be little when we took the last photo are TALL now. It's amazing how that works! Thanks for asking me to photograph your clan. You make me smile. Enjoy!

It has been a minute... like five years worth of minutes... since I last photographed anything wedding related. Last month the son of a family in our church got married in Mexico. Upon their return, they hosted a wedding reception so all the State-side family and friends could celebrate with them as well. I was asked to photograph the reception. I figured it would be a ton of party-pics and not much else. While it was a ton of party-pics, it was so much more than that. I arrived 5 minutes before go-time, and preparations were still under way. The bride and groom arrived about 10 minutes late and needed to change into their wedding attire. After a somewhat rocky start, the party got going. Family started arriving. Food and drink started flowing. And a celebration was had by all! It was so fun to be in the mix with the newly married couple who is so full of life, love, and enthusiasm. They were there to celebrate, and their friends and family joined them. It was a delight. Thanks for asking me to be a part!

The celebration was held at the Junior League E.O. Manees House in Argenta.

A candy bar is always a hit! Young and old indulged!

Adorable personalized details were scattered throughout. It was the first time

I had seen shot glasses on lanyards. These people take Tequila seriously!

Vero's mother made her gown. It was gorgeous! And the shoes... they were amazing, too!

Vero's siblings and mother flew in from Aguascalientes to join in the celebration.

The love the new in-laws have for their daughter-in-law is evident. Sweet people!

It was time for the celebration to officially begin! The happy couple!

Geoff and Vero entered the room to the tune of "We are the Champions". Hilarious!

Delicious food was prepared outside on the driveway. The smell alone was intoxicating!

Dancing and singing commenced when the mariachi band arrived!

I was impressed with how many people knew EVERY WORD.

This coupled laughed and danced possibly more than any I have seen in my time

as a photographer. They were so fun to watch. Well done! Keep it up, guys!

I had the pleasure of photographing this precious family. Three kiddos under 5 makes for a wild time. They were all so different and sweet in their own ways.

As always, it is delicious to meet a new baby. They just arrived, are so vulnerable, and yet aren't afraid. They know they are in good hands and are comfortable with their number one job - to ask for help. Ames, in particular, was a calm little fella. He was quite alert but content.

It was such an honor to be there to document that moment in time. Thanks for the invitation, Beth. You are lovely and have some beautiful boys. All the best to you and yours as you transition and make room for the 5th member of your family! He's a delight!

Emerson + 2 Months

We have been in the middle of a baby boom! And it's high time! My dearest friends have been having babies! Hip hip hooray! Jenny (Jennifer to almost everyone else) and I have been friends since we were 8 years old. For those who are counting, that is TWENTY EIGHT years! We have seen each other through all of life. We have had enough time at this relationship thing to be inseparable, grow apart, see other parts of the world and life, grow back together, and now have the luxury of being adults together. There is a little circle of people that Robert and I have the joy to know that truly feel like family. We laugh. We cry. We celebrate... anything! We enjoy. They fill up my cup. Jenny and Jon are a critical part of that circle. For years, I was suspicious of Jon. He was quiet, aloof, distant... I was very cautious. And boy was I wrong about him. He is kind, gentle but not in a pansy sort of way, quick to laugh, smart, easy to be around. The love they have for each other is easy to see. You can see it in their eyes. And now they have more to love - Emerson. Emerson, you are a lucky girl. You will have an AMAZING mother to love you and guide you. Your daddy will be wrapped around your little finger and will build you some of the most amazing things to play on. Your tree house might not be finished until you graduate from high school, but it will be done exquisitely without a detail to spare. Emerson, we are all lucky to know you. Cheers to two months! In early January, Teddy was born to two of my dear friends. His mom, Natalie, has been a friend of mine for over 20 years. We have seen each other through high school, college, boyfriends, many ups and downs, marriage, and now parenthood! I have waited for this to happen! I am sooooo excited to get to share this part of our journies. Just like the rest of them, they will look very different, but to share it, swap stories, ideas, moments of insight and humor... I couldn't be more pleased. Teddy, you have landed in some amazing arms. Your parents have huge hearts, lots of love, are hard workers and will do everything in their power to give you the care you need. It doesn't hurt that you are so stinkin' cute, too! Natalie and Shane, I am proud of and grateful for both of you. Your friendships are ever-so important to both Robert and me. We are thrilled to have you join the parent club! Welcome aboard! He is one beautiful babe!

Long story short, my cousin and his family who are stationed in England were in Arkansas to have their baby. I truly CANNOT imagine and am daily impressed by their adaptability and flexibility. The bonus for me and my family is that we got to be there for all the action and to meet this beautiful new addition to our extended family at the very beginning. I have had the pleasure of knowing Gareth and Cristie for roughly 10 years. The two of them have been really good friends to us. Robert and Gareth have known each other since elementary school days if I have the story straight. We have vacationed together (and enjoyed it). You may remember a post about them from a few years back. Robert and I traveled to Jamaica to celebrate their wedding, and I had the privilege of taking the photos. They are one of the most hospitable couples you will meet. Gareth loves to plan a party or gathering. Cristie loves to host it. She has a real knack for appetizers. They both make you feel like you are really wanted in their home. It's truly a gift they have, and a gift we happily receive. Well, 10 days ago now, they welcomed the third member of their family into the world! Stella Kate came on her due date. After the first week, the report is that she seems to have their even temper. I hope and pray for them that she remains so. I will say that I believe there has to be something to the old wives' tale that the temper of the mom is reflected in the temper of the child. Cristie and Gareth both are pretty laid back folks. I'm crossing my fingers that Stella is, too! She is beautiful, Gareth and Cristie! I couldn't be happier for all of you. She is one lucky girl. Elizabeth + 15 months

Last week I had the pleasure of spending some time with Elizabeth and her parents. Robert went to law school with Courtney and Mark.... which means we have known them for 9 years. Holy moly! We are getting old! I've always really enjoyed them. They both are relatively quiet, but don't let that fool you. They choose their words, and level you with honesty or humor when they speak. Mark is particularly dry and witty. He gets me every time! Well, 15 months ago, as any parent knows, their whole life changed! Elizabeth, a spunky, independent, adorable, beautiful, curious little girl was born. She is a firecracker in every possible good way. She reminds me a lot of my Lucy. Just don't get in her way, and she's a happy camper! So we were off to explore the world through Elizabeth's eyes. We hit the family's favorite porch and swing, the local fountain, and had a run through the backyard. She was a delight! Courtney and Mark, thanks for having me over. It was and always is a treat to spend time with you. I wish we did it more often! You're Elizabeth is a jewel! Enjoy the memories!

A couple of weeks ago, I met up with these two cuties in their fantastic backyard to snap a few shots! Sam is a vibrant 5 year old FULL of ideas, energy, and charisma. We wandered around the yard taking his lead for about 30 minutes, and then he declared he was done. And that was that. We were finished. God bless children for calling it like it is! In those few minutes together, we got some really cute shots. These two adore each other. Enjoy the memories!

MK, William & Jeb: Cuteness

It's INSANE how fast time has flown. Truly insane. MK is turning 5 this summer. WHAT? Really? Well... the older these kiddos get, the more mobile, opinionated, animated, precious and hilarious they become. The words to describe this shoot would be FAST, chaotic, hilarious, and a whole lot of fun! One thing that I especially love about these shoots is these kiddos' momma. She dolls them up in their smocked finery, has a general idea of what may or may not work, and then lets them go. And we are all off to the races. Her goal is to not threaten them too much so as to ruin this experience for them and make them not want to do this EVER again. I applaud her for holding what may be high expectations at bay and letting her kids be kids in front of the camera. It's such a joy to watch and an honor to document. And honestly, I think they turn out pretty great. Maybe not traditional. Maybe not overly posed. But a fun representation of where these kids are at this point in their life. They just make me smile! Enjoy!

The newest member of our family arrived on April 15. After an AMAZING home birth, this bundle of joy joined my husband's brother and sister-in-law's world. He is a healthy baby boy with an amazing head of hair! We have all enjoyed holding him and looking at him... just looking at him. I have always been amazed at what these little, sleepy creatures do to us. They captivate us as they sleep. They suck us in. They must call from the other side or something because they grab hold of our hearts and give us patience and time to just watch. They are amazing. Truly. I had the great pleasure of snapping a few photos of Javi last week to document this moment in his life. Javier, thanks for joining us! We are all so glad you are here... even Lucy will be happy you're here eventually. Give her some time. We love you and are looking forward to watching you... just watching you... for years to come. It's WILD, absolutely WILD, that Quinn has already passed the 12 month mark. How in the WORLD did that already happen?! It is no surprise WHATSOEVER that she continues to grow into a beautiful little girl. It's amazing what a difference 4 months makes. The last time I had the chance to spend a little time with the gal she was sitting up confidently. Four months later, she has been walking for a month and thinks it is just marvelous! She's still fine tuning the coordination, but she gets around folks! Her parents are loving it and panicked all at the same time! It's so fun to watch. It truly goes by sooooo fast! Here's proof of her beauty!

Robert's cousin, Stari, is expecting! Milo is due to arrive in December, and the enthusiasm is mounting! Stari was in town for a shower, so we met out our house to do a quick photoshoot to document this really exciting time. Stari does everything with style... so of course it was so fun to photograph her. Mary Kathryn and William, two of my very favorite subjects whom I have been photographing for years, have a new brother! Five days after John's arrival, we all gathered at their home to document his newness. His squishy, sleepy, beautiful self warmed my heart. Kathryn and Scott are the proud parents of some serious cuteness. They make the most beautiful children, and it is such an honor to be asked over to capture them on "film" as they grow. I was at their house in January for a WILD photo shoot full of basketball playing, umbrella swinging, running, jumping, tackling... you get the idea. This go around was a completely different deal. The curiosity and enthusiasm were no less, but the gentleness and calmness were much more. I don't know if it was a subconscious respect for their new sibling or if they have really grown up, but they were particularly sweet and agreeable. Such a treat! Kathryn, again, thank you. I hope you enjoy these memories!

Quinn is growing up! She is absolutely beautiful. With her porcelain skin and sparkling eyes, it is hard to look away. She is just adorable... and ADORED by her sweet parents. Seven days after she arrived, I had the great pleasure of meeting sweet Tatum! A precious little nugget of a baby who was born into an amazing family. Kate and Joey are the proud parents and Tripp is the interested and enthusiastic 2 year old brother. Despite the challenges of the hot summer day, a tired older brother, and a hungry belly, Tatum was a rock star. Once the basics were met - dry diaper and milk, she knocked on off and was completely agreeable. Kate and Joey, I am truly impressed by you guys. It's not a surprise really, but you both seem so good at this parenting thing. At least from the outside, you look like a good team! I love watching you grow as a family. Thanks for including me in such an amazing time.

In February, I had the pleasure of photographing Mika when she was pregnant. In April, Quinn arrived! She is just perfect. An adorable, wriggly, wrinkly, serious, beautiful baby girl. It just melts my heart to see new, new babies. It was only 8 months ago, we brought one of those home with us... and she has changed SOOOOO much since then!
