The design team at 3+1 architekti developed a charming residence for a family who feels a strong connection with this beautiful land in Vaňov, the Czech Republic. Built on a surface of 134 square meters, on a steep basalt slope above the village, the house inspires peacefulness despite its animated colorful exterior. The place is characterized by the owner as a mix of nostalgia, ship parts from the neighboring river and incredible views.

The new residence continues the story of the original cottage initially built here by the owner’s grandparents. This is a place of refuge and meditation, elegantly mixed with most of the comfort of modern living.  A large covered outdoor terrace and large windows provide a great indoor-outdoor connection. The interiors are contemporary and minimalist, as if everything that truly counts here is the serenity of the lovely natural setting. Enjoy the views and the contemplative state they inspire!

If you were to imagine the design for a company dealing with the commercialization and breeding of pets, how would it look like? The creative minds at CODIstudio have come up with the concept of a generously-sized box, that opens up to the surrounding landscape during the day and closes during night time, protecting the animals inside. CUNIPIC Headquarters takes advantage of a rural setting in Vallfogona de Balaguer, Lleida, Spain and occupies a total surface of 425 square meters.

A few sustainable key aspects were taken into consideration when developing the building: “Working stations merge with circulation spaces in order to generate a greater link among building users. The envelope of the building is a ventilated facade with wood finishes. It is topped with an extensive green roof“. Natural lighting was also an important factor of the design; as a result, each working station comes equipped with a window to the exterior.

The idea that generated the design of this House in South-Western Australia was to achieve a reflection of the surrounding landscapes through materials and living spaces evoking openness: “the project displays the paired ideas of meandering and built formality, reflecting the relationship between the natural contours of bushland (emblematic of the site’s iconic Margaret River view, with its rolling river headland) and the crisp horizontal nature of the ocean beyond”, explained the creative team at Tierra Design.

Functionally separated in two building wings by a central courtyard, the residence provides the opportunity of two families living together. White canopies shelter the volumes, adding an interesting effect to the overall exterior design composition: “The rooves are transformed from a gesture at entry to expansive planes, echoing the breadth of landscape beyond. The ceilings become a floating island contrasting with the olive backdrop of bush”. Timber screens and stone walls further contribute to the project’s well defined modern personality.

Wood is one of the fine materials that never go out of trend. It’s an inspiration for all architecture enthusiasts out there because it’s both modern and classy. It’s like the little black dress from a woman’s wardrobe. It’s bold and influential and it establishes a connection between man and the environment. It is warm and familiar and most of the times, this is a really important issue, especially when it comes to choosing the perfect décor for your home, the place where you intend to spend some time for a while. We’ve spotted this interesting house on Plastolux and we felt like sharing it with you too. Now, when it comes to Portland, there’s an interesting phenomenon going on: there’s always something new (and modern) in the way.

The interior of this particular house is bright and it opens up to the courtyard, boasting a sense of volume and space. The wood excess creates a cozy ambience, something to remind us of the comfortable and inviting mountain chalets, only less crowded. Breezy and elegant, the place is perfect for someone that loves freedom. The facade, the interior staircase, the ceiling, even the shower – all these have a common element: wood.

Recently renewed by Loucas Zahos Architects, the Taringa House, located in a tranquil suburb of Brisbane, Australia boasts a wonderful interior characterised by transparence and brightness. Originally, Taringa House functioned as a worker’s cottage. After the “intervention”, only a few of the original elements were kept. One of the elements was the street façade (the client’s wish was to keep it “untainted” and let it follow the neighbourhood’s traditional design line).

This “old vs new” division generated a clear contrast between the building’s forms. “The ‘old’ cottage functions as an entrance from street level, also accommodating a guest bedroom, bathroom and overflow living space. The ‘new’ addition is the core of everyday living in the house. It contains the kitchen, main living area, dining and bedrooms.”

The living room opens up to the terrace and the courtyard. What’s really interesting is that all the glass work  makes a Jacaranda tree (one of the old elements kept “alive”) visible from almost any room. The family lives in the new structure while the old part has been transformed into a guesthouse.
