I can not even begin to express to you guys how (happily) busy our holiday season was. It is still so surreal to me that pieces I make and post online, people buy. It makes me so happy to be able to do what I love and to have such a loving and supportive community behind us. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who purchased and participated. Thank you for your notes, your packages and your patience, it means more than you could know.

On that note, I wanted to give you all a heads up that I am raising the prices of the mouse pads on January 9th. Yesterday I dropped about 90 packages off at the post office and today we added another 30 to the tally. We've been working non-stop over here at Freshly Picked headquarters and couldn't be happier. I'm hoping to post the rest of the week and start up regular posting again next week. And thank you for your emails of concern. No, I'm not in a ditch (Mom). We've just been (gladly) extremely busy with the shop!

How to Make Leather Napkin Rings

I shared the theme for my Thanksgiving Table today over on Babble, I decided to go with a Nautical theme. One of my very favorite details is this golden leather anchor napkin ring, which I'm going to show you how to make today.

Gather your supplies;
Veggie Tan or tooling leather - for this project I used the 6-7 oz variety
Anchor Napkin Ring download
Hole Punch
Scissors
Rubber Cement
Clothespins
Leather Paint

Start by getting your leather wet.

Using something sharp, carve the anchor image into the wet leather.

Cut out your anchor.

Wet and shape a 1/2 inch piece of leather about 6 inches long. Shape into a ring with a clothespin.

Once both pieces of leather are dry, paint them any color you like.

Glue the ring closed, secure with a clothespin until dry.

How to Make a Leather Packaging Bow

So, I know everyone was wondering (myself included) what to do with those leather confetti curlers from last week, well how about using them for really pretty present wrapping with these leather packaging bows.

These are really easy to make, but like with everything made from veggie tan leather, you just need a little waiting time for things to dry.

Supplies Needed:
veggie tan leather, I used the 2-3 oz variety
rubber cement
waxed linen thread (not pictured)
needle (not pictured)
leather hole punches
mallet

Lets get started!

Start with your pieces, feel free to play around with length and width. I used 3/4 inch strips cut into;
(1) 11 inch piece
(2) 10 inch pieces
(2) 9 inch pieces
(1) 8 inch piece
(1) 3.5 inch piece

Next get your leather wet.

Then shape your leather strips into figure 8's.

Hold the 8 closed with a clothes pin. Loop the little strip into a loop, hold that closed as well.

After the strips have dried, use rubber cement to glue the 8's in place. Reattach the clothes pin and allow the glue to dry fully.

When the glue is dry, take off all of the clothes pins and then put a dab of glue in the center of each piece.

Start arranging your bow by stacking the figure 8's on top of each other biggest to smallest.

Allow to dry.

Take your hole punch and punch as near the center as possible, but just outside. Go through as many layers as you can on either side of the middle.

Punch two holes in your circle piece.

Grab your needle and thread. Begin on the bottom of one of the sides, pulling the thread up to the middle.

Loop in through the circle piece and back down through the other holes coming out the back.

Tie in a knot.

Ready to attach.

I've just added three new colors of moccasins to the shop - Copper, Ox Blood and Black. These colors are perfect for fall. I'm especially in love with the black moccasins with black stitching, they would be perfect for the holiday party attire.

This week on the Freshly Picked Facebook page a reader (Hi Paul!) asked if I would repost this 'how to get gum out of upholstery' trick.

This summer we came home from a road trip and when I moved the booster seat, I found gum ground into the car seat.

The trick? Folex. This product is out of control amazing. I once was able to get sharpie out of our couch with it - true story. You basically spray a generous amount onto the upholstery and for the gum I let it soak for a bit and then I scratched the gum out with my nail

Creative Collaborative November

How to Make Leather Confetti Curlers

Is it obvious that I've got scrap leather coming out of my ears? I'll be adding some more scrap bags to the shop soon, this time with veggie tan scraps. But in the mean time, lets talk about another project to do with small scrap pieces.

Leather confetti curlers.

These are really easy to make and I'm totally using them for the next package that I send out or give.

Start with a strip of veggie tan leather.

Using a spray bottle,

Get it wet.

Veggie tan leather becomes pliable and moldable when wet.

Curl it around itself.

Or you could curl it around something like a knitting needle. Let it dry fully.

For comparison, I used 1 inch, 1/2 inch 1/4 inch and 1/8 inch pieces.

Here are the corresponding curlers.

Paint it gold if you like!
