We meet each Friday at a coffeehouse in Burlington, Vermont (that offers free WiFi) and record a 30-minute podcast about whatever happens to be going on that day.

We haven't been doing podcasts for some time now, but we are talking about starting up again. In the meantime, here's a video clip of me addressing the Vermont Community Access Media board of directors tonight. I am stepping down from the board after 8 years of service. The content of the talk is relevant to some of the stuff we talk about on FCB, hence my posting it here (plus there's picture with that sound!).

Bill's address to the VCAM board of directors (18.7MB, QT7 required)

<draft xmlns="http://purl.org/atom-blog/ns#">false</draft>

In case anyone is still paying attention...

The iBook is still sick, but I'm using a Powerbook that belongs to my workplace. We actually met a couple of weeks a go and tried to record an episode of FCB, but then the headphones amplifier wasn't working! Stupid technology! Anyway, we will return to podcasting soon I'm sure. Our 1 year anniversary is coming up actually in April.

Also, some FCBers are working on a super secret project, soon to be announced. Stay tuned.

<draft xmlns="http://purl.org/atom-blog/ns#">false</draft>

iBummer

As cross-posted at Candleblog...

It's official. My iBook is very very sick. I'm going to call Small Dog and Rent-a-Geek and compare hourly rates. It will turn on okay, but then a noise begins in the front left corner that slowly grows louder. At first the functionality isn't impaired, but within a few minutes, as the noise grows louder--into almost a grinding sound--everything locks up.

I was going to try and upload last week's FCB tonight but that's definitely not happening. nor can I record one tomorrow.

Candleblog officially has 99 registered users (not sure how many FCB listeners, but there must be a few). If each one of you sent me $20, I could buy a new Intel-powered MacBook Pro. Then the Friday Coffeeblogging would get CRAZY! (see the PayPal button on the left side bar.)

I don't know what I'm going to do if I don't have a machine with me for SXSW. (Bill begins to gently sob) I was so looking forward to... snif... blogging from the conference (NTodd says "don't worry, buddy, you can blog from my Dell!" Bill kicks him hard in the shin.) If only I could afford a new machine...

<draft xmlns="http://purl.org/atom-blog/ns#">false</draft>

Your Cat Has a Firewall

Friday Coffeeblogging #27 Today I received an email from Richard Giles, the co-author of that book. Richard has written another, longer book on podcasting, that he hopes to also have published by O'Reilly. Apparently, the larger book's publication is contingent on the success of the Pocket Guide. Here is his email:

Hi

You may remember a few months ago I contacted you about a podcast book
I was writing, called the Whole Internet Guide to Podcasting and Internet Audio. In it I reviewed your podcast.

O'Reilly, the publisher, used part of the book to produce a pocket
guide that's just been published. They only used 30 of the 100+
podcasts I reviewed for this version, and added another chapter from
Podcast Hacks. It's a nice introduction to podcasts, because it says
how to subscribe, how to record, and points to the 30 shows worth
subscribing to. It's a great book to introduce the concept, but
doesn't have the appeal to an average listener like The Whole Internet
Guide to Podcasting and Internet Audio does.

However, they've decided to wait and see just how the pocket guide
sells before they decide if my work goes to print. That's a real
disappointment, because as you'll know if you've been involved in
publishing, it was 3 months of VERY hard work.

So I'm appealing to you to perhaps mention the Podcasting Pocket Guide
on your show. If it gets the exposure, sells a few copies, and perhaps
even gets a few good reviews in Amazon, then O'Reilly might publish
the Whole Internet Guide.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but it's my first book, and I put my
heart and soul into it's creation. I certainly didn't write it for the
money, it was all about seeing it in print. I'm sure that if it makes
it, that you'll appreciate seeing your show amongst the pages.

Indeed, it was a pleasure to see FCB in the pocket guide and I sure would like to see the bigger book get published too. And it's cheap! So get over to Amazon and get your copy--throw it in with some order you were planning on getting anyway and get free shipping.
<draft xmlns="http://purl.org/atom-blog/ns#">false</draft>

Bloggie nominations are open

This year the Bloggies (weblog awards) have a new category: Best Podcast of a Weblog. Nominations are open until the 10th.
