"All 8 episode final mixes are done and dusted."

Expect a full blitz of marketing heading into July and San Diego Comic Con en route to the series release this Fall.

Dread Central reported yesterday that there will indeed be a winter set episode in the series giving fans the first official instance of a Friday The 13th story taking place in the snow.

Some quick news today to celebrate Friday The 13th. It was confirmed recently that the character Enos will return in the A24 and Peacock series, Crystal Lake!

Enos first appeared in Friday The 13th 1980 as the friendly truck driver (employed by Elston Oil Supply) who gives hitchhiking camp counselor Annie Phillips (played by Robbi Morgan) a ride partway to the newly reopened Camp Crystal Lake. Enos is one of the first to deliver exposition (a must in early slasher films) about the camp's dark history. He warns Annie about its troubled past, including the 1957 drowning of a boy named Jason, previous failed attempts to reopen the camp due to fires and "bad water," and the locals' superstition that the place is cursed (affectionately call "Camp Blood").

Veteran actor Rex Everhart portrayed the cult favorite character in the original film of the Friday The 13th franchise and now the next actor will hopefully carry on that legacy. Speaking of the next actor, we have learned that Daniel Stewart Sherman may very well have taken on the persona of the Elston Oil Supply truck driver!

Daniel is a veteran stage and screen actor with over 25 years in the industry.

Broadway credits include originating the role of Don in Kinky Boots (for which he received an Outer Critics Circle nomination for Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical), as well as appearances in Cyrano de Bergerac, A Touch of the Poet, Henry IV, and The Full Monty.

Off-Broadway and regional theater work includes Guys and Dolls, The Mineola Twins, and productions at Goodman Theatre (e.g., Desire Under the Elms).

TV/film roles: Recurring or guest spots in shows like Lodge 49 (as Jeremy), Chicago Fire (as Scott Boylan), multiple characters across the Law & Order franchise, Run All Night (2015), Marshall (2017), and others.

We have not received official confirmation on Daniel's casting from A24, but it looks very likely he is the man for the job.

Teenage Jason Making Appearance In Friday The 13th Prequel Series Crystal Lake

We are all patiently awaiting the first marketing blitz for the new Crystal Lake show from A24 and Peacock, but while we wait, there is a bit of news that we missed during the hoopla of the holidays. Dread Central reported the exclusive that fans will indeed see a teenage version of Jason Voorhees in the show. What does this mean? Perhaps a death or two at the hands of Jason besides Pamela?

This news does track if you look at the casting of the show so far. It's also been mentioned that teenage Jason Voorhees will appear in the final episode of Season 1! This has not been officially confirmed.

Crystal Lake Showrunner Discusses Tone And Kill Sequences For Upcoming Series

Entertainment Weekly recently caught up with Crystal Lake showrunner Brad Caleb Kane to talk about his other show It: Welcome To Derry, and during that conversation Brad discussed Crystal Lake, teasing the series' tone and style. Kane describes Crystal Lake as less of a straight slasher and more of a "psychological thriller" rooted in the "paranoid '70s thriller" era that inspired the original 1980 film. He emphasizes themes like mistrust of institutions, women's liberation, and societal awakening, while promising plenty of gore: "There are rivers of blood in the show. There are very... ingenious kill sequences and deaths and murders, but it’s all done in service of character and theme and place and time."

Principal photography for the new A24 and Peacock Friday The 13th series began on Friday June 20th in West Milford, New Jersey, which we first reported about a few weeks ago. Fans are in luck today as we can share the first set photos from Crystal Lake as revealed via Frank Riker’s YouTube Channel.

The photos are excellent showing Camp Crystal Lake with a plethora of nostalgic 1970’s vehicles and summer camp vibes.

Below, fans can see Crystal Lake, a sign welcoming campers to the area, and a familiar motorcycle.

Crazy Ralph Spotted During Filming Of Crystal Lake Series In Blairstown, New Jersey

It has been a very busy schedule of filming for the A24 production of the streaming series Crystal Lake, which has been taking place since the middle of June. More than a half dozen towns in New Jersey have played host to the show known to local residents only as Mama's Boy. Today was a very special day of filming, however, as the franchise returned to it's original roots and to one of the towns that started it all, Blairstown, New Jersey.

Blairstown, of course, was one of a number of locations used in the production of Friday The 13th 1980 (Check out our filming locations page for the original film to see all of the areas used to make the first movie a slasher success). There are a number of infamous scenes in the small town in New Jersey that were filmed, which take place immediately following the prologue of Friday The 13th 1980. Fans will have the opportunity to relive the old town once again when Crystal Lake debuts on Peacock in 2026.

It was very fitting that today, not only did a Friday The 13th production return to Blairstown, 45 years after the original film was released in theaters, but two very familiar characters were on the set of the fictional town of Crystal Lake. Pamela Voorhees and Crazy Ralph (aka Ralph Neeley) were witnessed interacting in scenes today in Blairstown and Dave Brown on Facebook posted a good number of photos from today's shoot for fans to see.

It was no secret that Crazy Ralph was going to be in the show as that character was announced back in July, and now you can see actor Nick Cordileone portray one of the most beloved characters of Friday The 13th.

The series takes place in the early 1970's (reported to be 1971) and is currently in production in numerous towns in New Jersey.

More news today on the continuing production of the Friday The 13th prequel series Crystal Lake. Veteran actress Nancy Nagrant joins the A24 and Peacock series for multiple episodes of the highly anticipated return to Crystal Lake.

Nancy has been cast as Kay Christy, relative to Steve Christy. Steve appeared in the original Friday The 13th film as the owner of Camp Crystal Lake who was working tirelessly to reopen the long dormant and cursed camp. There are sure to be some great story points to follow in the series pertaining to Kay, Steve and the town of Crystal Lake.

Credits for Nancy include numerous tv appearances including Law and Order: Special Victims Unit and the Equalizer. For now, she will be appearing in two episodes of Crystal Lake, including 1.1 The Great Pretender and 1.2 Are You Experienced?

Crystal Lake is currently in production and filming in New Jersey in the towns West Milford and Ringwood, and soon, Blairstown!

Pair Of Actors Possibly Ready To Portray Adult Jason Voorhees For Crystal Lake Series

News for the Friday The 13th prequel series Crystal Lake is happening fast and furious. First off, adult Jason Voorhees will be in the show, according to what we have been told. That brings us to some interesting tidbits today.

Our site has learned that veteran actor Zachary Branch has been tapped to play a version of adult Jason Voorhees for the show. This has not been confirmed by A24 as of yet, but it seems possible. On the heels of that news, Dread Central also has a scoop that another actor/stuntman is in talks to play adult Jason as well.

Schuyler White, who himself is a veteran actor and stunt performer, is currently in talks to play adult Jason . This news has also not been confirmed yet by A24.

Could both of these actors be playing Jason Voorhees? We shall see what happens, but it is great to find out that an adult version of Jason will be in the show.

Variety is reporting that a new Jason Voorhees has been cast in Peacocok and A24's Crystal Lake series. Callum Vinson of Chucky television show fame is the new young Jason Voorhees for the Friday The 13th prequel series.

Young Jason Voorhees is expected to be a guest starring role and not a staple in the eight-episode Season 1 of Crystal Lake. Pamela Voorhees is indeed the focus in the beginning of the series, but we will see a growing role of Jason Voorhees (in episode appearance and stature) throughout the series.

That isn't all as other exciting announcements include the hiring of actors to play Crazy Ralph and the characters Barry and Claudette from the opening prologue of the original Friday The 13th! This is huge news as Barry and Claudette are the counselors responsible for letting Jason drown in Crystal Lake and getting Ralph in the show shall be a lot of fun.

Nick Cordileone will portray Ralph. Joy Suprano will play the characters Rita, and Danielle Kotch and Phoenix Parnevik will play Claudette and Barry respectively.

The show is currently in production and filming in West Milford and Ringwood, New Jersey.

The new Friday The 13th streaming series Crystal Lake is mere weeks away from the first filming taking place and I am very excited to see the first official project of the franchise begin production since 2008 (when Friday The 13th 2009 started filming). So, what do we know so far about the show?

Brad Caleb Kane is the showrunner steering the streaming ship for the franchise, and thus far, we have official casting announcements for Linda Cadellini portraying Mrs. Voorhees and William Catlett portraying Levon Brooks (rumored to be the sheriff of Crystal Lake but not confirmed). More casting of main characters will sure to be flooding social media channels in the coming weeks, but we have some fun and interesting news to pass along to our readers and fans will sure to be excited for what we have so far.

Our site was first made aware of casting calls related to Crystal Lake for actors in late April, for which we first discovered the working title of the show is Mama's Boy. At that point it was finally confirmed that the series would be filming in New Jersey and in the Summer of 2025. It was great to have that confirmed from what we had been told this past Winter. Now, even more casting calls have been discovered thanks to a fellow fan on Twitter that goes by the handle festy1986. Here is the new information we have for the show based on their information.

- The show is set in the 1970's, but multiple organizations reference the year 1971 specifically.

- The full tentative shoot for the first season of Crystal Lake will take place as early as June 18th and conclude on November 21st (This can obviously change based on a plethora of factors during filming)

- The first week of filming, which looks to begin June 18th, will take place in West Milford, New Jersey. There are a large number of principal and background characters filling these first couple of days which look to make some of the settings very likely to be at a camp!

- Below is a breakdown of various characters that were being cast the past several weeks for the first days of filming which begin around June 18th:

1. partying, kissing, and "friend" teens for the 1970's

2. 1970's summer camp kids

3. Featured 1970's swimming campers

4. 1970's experienced lifeguards

5. Canoeing and Archery camp counselors

- Besides the first few actors being announced, one casting call site references the casting directors involved in the talent search as well as the First Assistant Director named Greg Edmunds. Greg has worked on a number of extremely popular streaming shows recently, including Reacher, Gen V, and The Handmaids Tale.

Last week, Crystal Lake series showrunner Brad Caleb Kane posted on Instagram that the series is now in pre-production, and that is great news for Friday The 13th fans that have waited over fifteen years to get new official content to consume. This is a new trip back to Crystal Lake and it should be interesting to see how it all began. Not a lot is known about the plot of the first season of the show since the series changed direction after Bryan Fuller left the project and Brad was brought on to continue the show.

With all of that being said, we do know that Linda Cadellini will be portraying Mrs. Voorhees and this will be a prequel story. We have reported in the past that filming is scheduled to begin this Summer, but where exactly where this filming take place? Well, we were recently tipped off about a casting call that was recently put out for background extras for a streaming series that is filming in New Jersey! That's right it is looking very likely that Crystal Lake will be represented in the state where it all began 45 years ago.

Most of our readers know that the original film was shot in Blairstown, New Jersey as well as surrounding communities. The open casting call found at Project Casting shares the following information.

Crystal Lake series show runner Brad Caleb Kane has been hard at work preparing fans to return to Crystal Lake, and with the announcement that Linda Cardellini has been cast as Mrs. Voorhees news is sure to begin streaming in for the highly anticipated project.

Today Brad gave the brief update on Instagram that “Crystal Lake Production Offices are live.” This is spectacular news as this series is finally happening and for the first time in over fifteen years there will be new official content to view and discuss. Below is an image he shared of the latest script for the series, which shows the script is property of Camp Blood LLC. Very cool. I should have nabbed that name. Anyways, look for even more updates soon when the series heads into full production!

Last month, Jeff Schneider broke the news that Linda Cardellini (Scooby Doo, Mad Men, Dead To Me) was in talks to play the tragic and villainous Mrs. Voorhees, and today Deadline has confirmed that she has indeed signed on to portray Pamela in A24's Crystal Lake streaming series for Peacock.

Although the plot of the series is not fully known as of yet, Deadline offered the following:

Cardellini’s Pamela is believed to be a mother who had given up a singing career to raise a special needs child and takes a dark turn when she loses her son.

Linda Cardellini In Talks To Play Pamela Voorhees In Crystal Lake Series

Late last night, TheInSneider reported that veteran actress Linda Cardellini is in talks to play the villainous Pamela Voorhees in A24’s Friday The 13th series Crystal Lake! The report cautions that it is currently just discussions and Linda has not signed just yet, but this is a good sign that the show is moving forward.

Also, in the report from last night, Jeff Schneider had this to say:

Cardellini will soon begin filming HBO’s dark comedy series DTF St. Louis with Jason Bateman and David Harbour, and I imagine that she’ll segue to Crystal Lake after that — and most likely this summer.

This lines up with what I have heard, which is that show is looking to start filming this Summer.

Linda is known for her starring television roles in the teen drama Freaks and Geeks (1999–2000), the medical drama ER (2003–2009), and as well as for her guest role as Sylvia Rosen on AMC's Mad Men(2013–2015). Her starring role in the Netflix dark comedy series Dead to Me (2019–2022) earned her a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress.

She is also known for playing Velma Dinkley in the Scooby-Doo film franchise as well as Laura Barton in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Avengers: Age of Ultron, Avengers: Endgame and miniseries Hawkeye, as well as Lylla in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023).

This past August, A24 hired their new showrunner Brad Caleb Kane to oversee the Friday The 13th series Crystal Lake. Brad has been busy putting his vision together for the direction of the show and offered a very brief update today on his Instagram page on the progress of the series.

Happy Friday the 13th (to those who celebrate!) wish I could give a more substantial update but mum’s the word. Suffice it to say the story’s been broken, scripts have been and are being written and the goal is to give the fans (including myself) a tense, scary, bloody and satisfying ride that’s well worth the wait. More news to come in the new year.

I have heard that filming is aiming for Summer 2025 with the possibility of first shows airing in Fall 2025, but that has not been announced officially as of yet. There is sure to be more updates made in the first quarter of 2025 about Crystal Lake so stay tuned for more happenings.

In the late 1990’s, Joe Bob Brigg’s Monstervision on TNT aired several Friday The 13th film marathons which were the highlight of my late night viewing experiences. Ever since Joe Bob returned on his revival show The Last Drive-In in 2018, many fans, including myself, have waited to see him revisit the Friday The 13th films. This Halloween season, it looks like we get that opportunity.

AMC released the full schedule for their annual Fear Fest programming and on Wednesday October 9th, starting at 8pm, The Last Drive-In will feature Friday The 13th 1980 and Friday The 13th Part 2! I am looking forward to Joe Bob revisiting the franchise and lending his insight into these historic films.

During the month of October there will also be two full film marathons for the franchise on AMC on Saturday October 5th and Friday October 25th.

New Showrunner Hired For Peacock's Friday The 13th Show Crystal Lake!

Deadline has reported today that A24 has found their next showrunner for the Friday The 13th episodic show Crystal Lake! Peacock will air the weekly show and has hired the new showrunner, who is also the executive producer on the upcoming series It: Welcome To Derry, which is a prequel story for Stephen King's It. Brad Caleb Kane will now serve as the Crystal Lake series' creator, writer, and executive producer. In other word's, he has the keys to the franchise, at least for the television series.

Caleb had this to say about joining the iconic franchise:

“From the moment I watched Jason Voorhees squeeze a guy’s eyeball out of its socket (in glorious 3D!) at the tender age of 8 years old, I knew my creative path was someday destined to converge with The Man Behind The Mask,” said Kane in a statement on his Crystal Lake hiring. “Nothing defined my childhood more than growing up in the golden age of the slasher flick, and nothing’s defined the genre more than Friday The 13th. I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity to contribute a chapter to this iconic franchise, particularly with such fearless partners as Peacock and A24.”

In an interesting twist, and fun bit of trivia, Caleb co-wrote the song Beginning Of the End, which is performed by Spineshank and is featured on the Freddy vs Jason soundtrack. Good luck to Caleb on bringing Friday The 13th to the small screen!

Report Explores The Explosive Demise Of Bryan Fuller’s A24 Crystal Lake Show

The Wrap today pulled back the curtain to shed a bright light on the issues that led to the firing of Bryan Fuller and the pausing of A24’s Crystal Lake show.

Here’s highlights of what was reported today.

- Charlize Theron was being looked at to play Mrs. Voorhees.

- $300,000 deposits had already been paid for soundstages in Canada.

- The episode written by Kevin Williamson was going to take place on a frozen Crystal Lake.

- The budget ballooned to nearly $10 million per episode with an overall total of $85 million for the first season of eight episodes..

- Bryan Fuller was fired three months before filming was to begin on the first season.

- “Crystal Lake was plagued by inexperienced production executives making questionable decisions, problems with the show’s writing staff and conflicts between showrunners and executives.”

- Nick Antosca is being looked at to potentially take over as showrunner. Nothing official has been announced yet about the move to Antosca as of yet.

Nick’s Friday The 13th 3-D script for a potential new film back in 2015 has been praised by fans and was almost put into production by Paramount. It would be great to see what he can do with this show.

Unfortunately, this is just another in a long line of false starts and missteps for Friday The 13th projects. Hopefully, A24 can pull this together for a release in the next several years for fans to enjoy.

Filmmakers React To Bryan Fuller Leaving The Crystal Lake Show

This past week brought awful news that showrunner Bryan Fuller has left the Crystal Lake project that A24 was bringing to the streaming service Peacock as an episodic show which would be a sort of prequel story with Mrs. Voorhees devolving into madness over the loss of her son Jason. The entire concept of the show was Fuller's idea, which was to involve the original final girl actress Adrienne King and horror genre and Scream film creator Kevin Williamson. With Fuller gone from the project, A24 will now have to start over from scratch with a new idea for a Friday The 13th show.

The fans of the franchise have spent the past few days voicing their displeasure with yet another shuttered concept/project, and even those people who were to be involved in the Crystal Lake show took to social media to commiserate with Bryan Fuller and the fanbase.

Kevin Williamson first replied to Fuller's announcement that he left the project, stating the pilot episode was "beautiful" with Mrs. Voorhees "unraveling in her grief". Kevin also mentioned he looked for forward to his "hour long chase episode".

Vincenzo Natali, who directed the 2009 film Splice as well as countless episodes for television shows Orphan Black, Hannibal, Luke Cage, The Strain, and The Stand was also on board to direct a few episodes for Crystal Lake. He mentioned that he read the scripts for the first two episodes and the show was on it's way to another "Hannibal-level reinvention".

We are sure to find out even more about the show as time passes by. Crystal Lake sounded like it was going to redefine the franchise, but also stick to its roots as well. Hopefully, the next iteration of the show will actually go into production and have as much impact as Bryan Fuller's show seemed to be putting in place.

UPDATED: A24 Changes Direction On Crystal Lake Show

It’s been real quiet on the news front for Peacock and A24’s Crystal Lake streaming series that was announced on Halloween 2022. It was a huge deal coming on the heals of the resolved litigation of the franchise rights between Victor Miller and Horror Inc. The renewed hope that fans could get a new project soon was exciting, however, there has been no official announcements for the show since January 2023 and something was just revealed that is extremely disappointing.

Entertainment reporter Jeff Sneider just dropped some unsettling news that A24 has pulled the plug on the Crystal Lake show.

I’m hearing that A24 has pulled the plug on Crystal Lake, its planned Peacock series based on the Friday the 13th franchise featuring masked killer Jason Voorhees. Bryan Fuller was due to executive produce the horror series.

It’s unclear whether this is a permanent decision or a temporary one, as A24 had no comment. Perhaps Peacock will help the trades shed more light on this project, which was announced back in 2022.

UPDATE 5/8/24: Bryan Fuller took to Twitter just now and it looks like he is no longer show runner for Crystal Lake:

For reasons beyond our control, A24 has elected to go a different way with the material. We hope the final product will be something Friday the 13th fans all over the world will enjoy.

Peacock’s Crystal Lake Show Shooting Schedule Update

Our site reported last year that the tentative date to begin filming for Peacock’s Friday The 13th show Crystal Lake was supposed to be March 2024, but that was just before the actor and writer strikes began last year. As of right now, not a single scene has been shot for the series. What can be mentioned is that some cast members were hired for the project, but none of those actors have been announced officially, as of yet, except for Adrienne King.

We have learned recently that filming for the series is now targeting a Summer 2024 start which should then kick off a slew of updates pertaining to the events surrounding Crystal Lake. The filming schedule was indeed delayed past March due to the strikes as well as other circumstances that look like they have been resolved. Hopefully, everything lines up for a Summer shoot so fans can finally start receiving regular updates.
