Why Trump is right to sue MN for giving in-state tuition to illegals

The Trump DOJ is suing Minnesota for breaking a 1996 law prohibiting in-state tuition for illegal aliens unless in-state rates are offered to all students regardless of residence. The DOJ successfully sued Texas for the same reason, which ended their policy, and other states are on the DOJ's radar. They're doing the right thing.

Why is it right, and why should you care?

If you're not a Minnesota resident but live in one of the 24 states that provide in-state tuition to illegal aliens, you're paying for it. The Minnesota Office of Higher education reports that 76 percent of their funding is from taxpayer dollars. State and local funding is used to provide in-state tuition, so it's your money.

I've heard compelling, heartstring-pulling arguments against these lawsuits because DACA "kids" or "Dreamers" (people up to age 44 who were brought to America as children by their parents) will lose these reduced tuition benefits.

They argue that ending this policy will hurt DACA "kids" more than American citizens who don't qualify for in-state tuition because DACA recipients "often don't qualify for any other scholarships or assistance."

Except when the State of Minnesota provides an avenue for that.

Cue the "Minnesota Dream Act," which allows illegal aliens to apply for benefits like scholarships and in-state financial aid by "establishing residency." This opens up many financial aid doors that would otherwise be closed and allows them to bypass the Free Application for Student Federal Aid (FAFSA) program that low-income American citizens use to apply for tuition assistance. Illegal aliens are prohibited from receiving federal financial aid, so Minnesota and other blue states like Maine rode to the rescue to fix that.

I feel bad for DACA "kids." I think most people do, which is why we've accepted the "Dreamer" moniker (often used interchangeably with DACA) into our vernacular though it was coined when the Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act failed to pass in 2001. People feel so bad for these "kids" that politicians don't dare overturn President Obama's Executive Order establishing DACA. It would be political suicide. Even people who disagree with illegal immigration tend to soften when Dreamers are invoked.

As bad as we feel for Dreamers because of the decision their parents made (I must add the requisite "through no fault of their own"), shouldn't we also feel bad for American children whose parents made choices that negatively impact their access to college through no fault of their own?

These American children aren't living the American Dream, but a Dickensien nightmare. My examples may seem hyperbolic (like when we debate defunding Planned Parenthood and everyone "needing" an abortion becomes a 10-year-old incest victim); however, these are examples of children's lives I've seen, lived. Even one of the challenges caused by parental choices detailed below could derail an American child's college dreams. These children have:

Parent(s) with a Substance Use Disorder (SUD)*. Their lives are unstable, chaotic. They may have lived in filth or moved around because their parent was unable to keep housing. The child may have never learned to drive because the family couldn't afford Driver's Ed or a car. (In states like Minnesota, driving is important because access to public transportation isn't readily available outside of major cities.) Children of addicts are at higher risk for addiction, so the child may have an SUD of their own before graduation. Popular shows such as Netflix's Ginny and Georgia or And Just Like That show the stress even children of privilege with supportive parents go through to prepare for college: 5.0 GPAs, staggering numbers of diverse extracurriculars for well-rounded college applications, ACT test tutors, consultants to help craft perfect admissions essays. Children of addicts often don't have access to these things, either due to economic issues caused by a parent's addiction or inability of the addicted parent to help organize a child's life day to day, let alone help her through successful transition into adulthood or the labyrinth of college admissions. There is no tuition break for children of addicts.

*To everyone who argues,"addiction is a disease, not a choice," I say: every day parents don't choose sobriety, they're choosing addiction over their children. When my husband had cancer, he submitted to a month of torturous twice weekly chemotherapy injections directly into his brain through a port installed in his skull to get one more day of the six months they said chemo could give him to be a father. If doctors hadn't stopped treatment because (they admitted) it was killing him faster than the cancer, he would've continued. He died a week later. He'd have done anything--and I mean anything--to stick around, but he didn't have a choice because Cancer chose for him. Putting a bottle to your lips or a straw up your nose is not a disease like cancer, MS, or any disease that a parent does not choose that impacts the lives of their children, so I reject your argument.
Parent(s) with other adictions (social media, sex). Have you heard a child say, "Mom, Mom, Mom, MOM, MOM!" before Mom looks up from her phone? According to a 2019 New York Times article, 45 percent of parents report feeling addicted to their phones. Other studies show a sad 65 percent of parents use phones during meals, and a terrifying 56 percent of parents use their phones while driving. Many children must compete for parental attention with this technological interloper from birth.

A sex addicted single parent may parade a steady stream of partners through the home, putting the child at risk for abuse of all types. The parent's sexual behavior can result in a child's increased anxiety, depression, delinquency and poor school performance. There are no taxpayer-funded programs for children of parents with social media and sex additions.

Able bodied parent(s) who don't work. Yes, these people exist, thus the need for the Big Beautiful Bill's adding work/volunteer/school requirements for able-bodied adults who choose not to work. There are a lot of reasons: laziness; perceived or self-diagnosed but undocumented disability; "I'm too good for that job" syndrome; etc. Children living in these households are in poverty because of parental choices, not because of the post-COVID economy or other factors outside of parental control. These parents are often lazy or disorganized, so nobody checks backpacks, e-mails, or asks if the child has homework. The child's grade suffer, creating barriers to college dreams before they begin. If they clear the hurdles joblessness brings and have college ambitions, there's the North Star Promise program, State Financial Aid for children whose families meet income eligibility requirements. Please note that American students must compete with illegal aliens for these funds.
Hunger: Children living in poverty caused by parents' choices may be too consumed by essentials like food or shelter insecurity to think about excelling in school. It's hard to concentrate when you're stressed out and hungry. Even if there's food in the house, the parent may be too checked out to prepare it for the child, so he eats whatever his age or skill level allows or just goes hungry. Minnesota gives free breakfast and lunch to all children, forcing poor American children to compete for resources with illegal alien and wealthy children. Some school buses arrive at school too late for kids to eat breakfast. Four of six major food vendors that prepare school lunches also feed Minnesota's prisoners. Even hungry children will throw away disgusting prison food. When summer comes, due to Tim Walz' "I Spend Taxpayer Dollars on Food For Kids Who Don't Need It So I Can Brag About How I Feed Hungry Children" program, children are no longer automatically enrolled in a free/reduced-price program that follows them into summer to provide food support. Parents, who often struggle with simple tasks due to one or more of the factors listed here, must seek out paperwork to file for food support each summer. Some parents never complete this step resulting in three months of hunger for children, making Tim Walz' signature law even more jawdroppingly stupid. Hunger can directly affect school performance, which directly affects college access.
Parents who choose divorce,** According to a Census.gov report, nearly 1/3 of American children experience divorce, which reduces family income by an average of 40 percent. The study found that divorce "reduces children's adult earnings and college residence while increasing incarceration, mortality, and teen births." Even in the best circumstances, children must navigate two homes and endure destabilizing effects of parents dating or remarrying. The best-case scenario that puts children's needs first isn't the norm, so these children endure neglect and emotional, physical and even sexual abuse that their peers who live in nuclear families don't experience. Let's not forget the fresh hell experienced by children whose parents live apart but can't afford or just don't bother to divorce, so custody arrangements and child support orders usually in place to protect children of divorce are absent. There are no taxpayer-funded programs that specifically help children of divorce pay for college.

**When I say "choose divorce," I'm referencing people who put their own happiness and fulfillment above that of their children and break up the family unit, careening their children's lives into turmoil, anxiety, and pain. I realize divorce is sometimes necessary (especially for the "Three A's:" adultery, addiction, abuse). Not all divorce should be avoided, but increasing numbers are avoidable as divorce for any reason is more socially acceptable than ever. All states have no-fault divorce laws.
Absent mother, father, or both. One or both parents decided living his best life was more important than sticking around and supporting his child emotionally, physically, financially. Adults raised in these fatherless (less often, motherless) homes will live with the effects of this decision forever. They may not have access to food or housing because of the absent parent's choices. Parents can be physically present but still absent, leaving the child to be raised by herself and the internet, if they have internet. The MacBook the child was presented with in first grade requires WiFi so she can do her homework. If homelessness has forced the family to live in a motel, school-provided computers may not work there. If there's no internet at home, the parent must have the means/money/initiative to drive her to a library or a parking lot to access WiFi just to get her homework done. (Note: paper and pencils work everywhere, no matter how poor you are.) If both parents choose to leave, the child may be raised by grandparents, other family, or in foster care. If foster homes are available, they complete high school/GED, are disabled, attend post-secondary school, or work 80 hours monthly, youth can remain in foster care up to age 21 in 48 states. That's a lot of "ifs," resulting in only 13 percent of Minnesota's foster children remaining in foster care past age 18. Most foster children get the gift of homelessness for their 18th birthday. Fostering Independence Grants is a Minnesota taxpayer-funded nonprofit that provides tuition assistance for foster children; but again, these children must compete with illegal aliens for these funds.
A Hobby Parent. This Dad picks up the child to play with it whenever it suits him and puts the child down when he's bored or something more interesting comes up. He's around, but he's not financially, physically, or emotionally accessable or stable for his child. He doesn't pay child support, and sometimes goes to great lengths to avoid paying, like allowing his driver's licence to be suspended due to unpaid child support giving him the circular excuse: "I can't pay child support because I don't have a job because I can't get one without a driver's licence because mine was suspended because I don't pay child support." Mom may be trying her best as a single mom on one income in a two-income economy. She might work multiple jobs with long hours or become depressed and spend most of her time in bed. Nobody makes dinner for that child. No one cares if he has breakfast. He gets himself ready for school, sometimes with the help of an older sibiling.
Abuse: An estimated one in three girls and one in five boys are victims of sexual abuse in the United States. Neglect is the most common form of child abuse, comprising 59 percent of abuse victims. Abused and neglected children are 11 times more likely to commit crimes as adults. Statistics on domestic abuse between adults in the home vary widely with estimates of between 3.3 and 10 million children witnessing domestic abuse. Living in these situations is never the child's choice. All of these forms of abuse have negative effects on school performance and mental health, which alters a child's future access to college. There are no taxpayer-funded scholarship programs for abused children.

Double, triple quadruple, etc., the effects of the above parents' choices if there are multiple children in the family. These children must compete for scarce resources of all types in their own homes before they try to go to college and compete with illegal aliens for scarce resources.

Illegal aliens are allowed to apply for every program I found that helps students whose college dreams are made harder by their parents' choices. In a de facto sanctuary state like Minnesota, this really matters. (Statewide sanctuary status failed to pass the legislature, so Minnesota is not a sanctuary state, it just tries to operate like one. Cities have sued to stop Walz from ordering them to operate like sanctuary cities. When will Minnesota be sued for violating the will of the people by flouting its own non-sanctuary-state status?) There are finite resources that must be spread out to citizen and non-citizen college applicants alike. There isn't enough money to go around and in a state like Minnesota, people in "underserved, under-represented communities, i.e., people of color, who make up the majority of illegal alien residents, are always first in line.

Where are the expensive taxpayer-funded programs enshrined into law assisting American--I can't stress this enough--JUST AMERICAN CITIZEN college applicants living with the decisions their parents made that changed their lives forever?

They don't exist. We don't help these college dreamers. We don't enact taxpayer-funded programs into law to help them out of the holes their parents dug for them. We hope they'll dig themselves out.

The Cause of the Problem and Why There Should be No Solution

Most of the people making laws live in worlds where kids get new cars for their 16th birthdays, big graduation parties and send-offs to their bright, shiny college futures. They grow up eating dinner every night and breakfast every morning. They're taken to the doctor when they're sick and to the dentist twice a year. They get braces. They're carefully cared for, especially financially. Their grades are important, tracked, tutors hired if the child is struggling. This is not the whole of America, or even most of it.

For those who say "money doesn't buy happiness," I say, it buys food, medical care and housing. It buys transportation to both necessary and enriching activities. It pays for music lessons, sports equipment, and extra curriculars, which are increasingly provided a-la-carte as an added parental expense in public schools. In Minnesota, things like choir, band, sports and school counselors (even at the elementary school level) are paid for by parents, not taxpayer-funded public schools. Students who don't have the kind of privilege lawmakers think most American students possess don't have easy access to things that look good on college applications that used to be "free" with a public school education.

They think, "America is the wealthiest country in the world." You know, the kind of wealth with a big house, new car, maxed out credit cards, and drug-addicted kids huddled starving in a tent in the backyard. "We can afford to help everyone who comes to our country for a better life achieve the American dream." That would be nice if it were even a little bit true and if they focused on taking care of their own before taking care of others. Add the one-two punch of white guilt and white savior syndrome that infects many of America's powerful, and you wind up with too many American children who aren't seen as "underserved" and "underrepresented" living hellish lives nobody even tries to fix.

If we care so, so much about helping children of people who chose to bring them here (a choice no matter how you slice it) why don't we care just as much about helping American children who must live with their parents' choices? We all live with the choices our parents made, good or bad. Think about your life. You know it's true.

We don't because it's not politically viable and because it would be too expensive to help every American who had a crappy childhood. It'll get more expensive as mental health declines and addiction soars.

Government can't be the salve for every wound. It can't heal scars or undo screwed up parental choices that negatively alter the prospects of their college-aged children.

We pay for the choices of illegal immigrant parents but not not American parents. Does that make sense? No. Governor Walz executed a magic trick worthy of a Las Vegas stage: turning a projected $616 million surplus into a $6 billion deficit. Can we afford to be a magnet state for illegal aliens? No.

The only way to fix this is for the Trump DOJ to win its lawsuit and force Minnesota to stop giving in-state college benefits to illegal aliens. It would be even better if the lawsuit included access to all taxpayer-funded tuition programs. We should not overcorrect, as government often does, and add more programs to help American children at taxpayer expense. If we focused on lifting up all American children and stopped making them compete with illegal aliens for resources, there just might be enough to help victims of bad parenting using systems already in place.

Kendall Qualls announces run for MN Governor to packed house

The back room of the Rojo Mexican Grill in St. Louis Park was so packed last night that they had to stop letting people in due to fire codes. The doors to the oppressively hot room were opened to the sidewalk where the overflow crowd stood talking, waiting. I expected people to leave before Qualls began speaking, but they stayed. The last time I was in a room that hot with a packed crowd was when my son's band headlined at Station 4 in St. Paul. Both times people stayed because they were excited to be there to see the headliner take the stage and to listen.

Last night's headliner was business leader Kendall Qualls, who took the stage to announce he is running to be Minnesota's next governor.

Despite the heat, there were smiles on the faces of the strikingly age- and racially-diverse crowd as Qualls delivered a message of hope for the people of Minnesota.

Qualls, who ran for the Republican nomination for governor in 2022, lost the nomination to Scott Jensen, who lost to Governor Tim Walz.

I remember Qualls from his 2020 run for the congressional seat eventually occupied by Dean Phillips. I was so impressed by him then that just last week while pondering a hopeless third term under Tim Walz I thought, "I wish Kendall Qualls would throw in his hat again."

Last night, he did just that.

Yes, Qualls has run unsuccessfully for office before, but Qualls has demonstrated that he doesn't let anything keep him down. His is a quintessentially American story of a boy growing up in an impoverished broken home, working his way through college, serving his country, earning advanced degrees, and becoming a very successful business leader. As detailed on his website, KQforMN.com, Qualls shows he has the backbone to keep fighting to be Minnesota's governor and working hard to help Minnesota be a place where people want to live.

He talked of crime, of the fall of Minneapolis, of the out-of-control spending that led Tim Walz to oversee a financial landslide from an $616 million surplus to a projected $6 billion deficit, even after inflicting $10 billion in tax hikes on the people of Minnesota. State spending under Walz "...gives drunken sailors a bad name," said Qualls.

He spoke of Minnesotans who have fled to states that have lower taxes and of restoring the broken state so people will "stay in Minnesota and raise families in Minnesota for generations."

I could feel hope creeping in while fanning my face with his brochure as Qualls spoke. Standing there recalling the conversation I had with my family last weekend about leaving the expensive national embarassment that Minneosta has become for somewhere more liveable, this beautiful place in which generations of our family have lived and died, I thought, "Maybe if we just hold on. Maybe the people of Minnesota have had enough and will vote for change."

Kendall Qualls seems to embody positive change for Minnesota's future.

Qualls said we need to "attract the sensible center to join us to restore Minnesota to its former glory." That may worry some conservative Republicans who are already concerned about Minnesota's Republican Party running "just another RINO." But Qualls, who began his speech by congratulating Americans for delivering Donald J. Trump a presidential and popular vote victory and wants Minnesotans to follow suit and vote for change in 2026, seeks to bring everyone who loves Minnesota into the Republican party's newer, bigger tent.

He asked that we close the meeting with a prayer. The people responded with an enthusiastic "Amen" before bursting into applause.

Kendall Qualls is running for Governor of Minnesota in 2026. There will be other candidates, and I will address them here as well. I left last night wanting to learn more about what this man, who seems to love Minnesota as much as I do, will do to save it. The people who came to hear him speak last night gave him a very warm welcome. I stepped into the cool breeze of a bustling city street with something I haven't had in too long--hope.

What is a New Republican?

I recall riding in the backseat of the car while my parents were talking politics. I was seven years old, and it was near the end of the Vietnam War. I asked, "Daddy, what's the difference between a Democrat and a Republican?"

He said, "Democrats like things to change, and Republicans like things to stay the same."

"Then I'm a Republican," I said, knowing that I didn't like it when things changed.

For a child whose life isn't all sunshine and roses, change often means negative things: Daddy loses his job, Mom has to start working, child is suddenly a latch-key kid at a time when that isn't a thing. Change can be scary. I think a lot of people are scared now, but not everyone.

What I love about American politics in this moment is the elasticity of the political parties. I used to scoff at Democrats who kept saying that in the post-reconstruction days of the Civil War, the political parties "flipped." Republicans became the racists and Democrats, who had overseen slavery and segregation, became the "tolerant" ones. (I think "tolerant" is a pejorative term as regards race--should we merely "tolerate" someone's race?)

Many on the right thought this was ridiculous because of President Obama's choice of Vice President, Senator Joe Biden, an old-school Democrat who not only palled around with KKK members but fought against school desegregation. (Kamala Harris' only factually accurate campaign moment was when she called Biden a racist during a 2020 Democratic primary debate.) Also, because of stats like the 17 percent of Democrats who said they wouldn't vote for Obama over McCain simply because of his race, which could be a reason to pick known-racist Biden as VP.

Republicans have long rejected this notion of the parties "flipping," but have they flipped now? If aversion to change is the metric, they certainly have. Other metrics have changed as well:

What is a "New Republican?"

A Trump voter or someone who didn't vote for Trump but who likes the policies coming out of the second Trump Administration. They realize the presidency isn't about who you'd like to have a beer with, it's about who's a more effective leader.
New Republicans are patriotic but don't associate it with war. They're largely anti-war, especially for regime change or to benefit the Military Industrial Complex. In the past, you'd hear "Military Industrial Complex" uttered by Republicans only when making fun of liberals, but New Republicans recognize and are suspicious of these entities. Any military action must meet "America First" standards.
They're willing to admit mistakes. I no longer agree with some things I wrote post 9/11. Many apologize for supporting the Iraq War. Events like realizing there were no weapons of mass destruction revealed to even the most patriotic Republicans that our government isn't always good just because it's ours. Obama's weaponization of federal agencies, like using the IRS as a weapon to audit conservatives, surveilling conservative journalists, or Biden's assault on religious liberty, speech and parental rights cemented the sad reality that our government isn't always on our side.
New Republicans are fiscally conservative and hate government waste. This was given a lot of lip service by Republicans, but their actions didn't match their words. My late husband stopped identifying as Republican due to huge spending increases during G.W. Bush's presidency. It's still a problem, but New Republicans are more likely to call out their representatives for overspending.
After years of proven government censorship, New Republicans are the Free Speech Party, a title ceded by the right during the McCarthy era anti-Communist hearings and claimed by the likes of the nakedly left-wing ACLU. The left now openly argues in favor of censorship.
They're younger and more racially diverse than ever.
New Republicans love change--fast and sweeping, please. Known for their conservative values, Republicans have long been associated with keeping the status quo or returning to the past. While many still advocate conservative values like family, patriotism, and parental rights, most New Republicans want change.
In addition to "flipping" with Democrats on classical liberal issues, New Republicans are becoming more Libertarian than ever. The Dobbs decision led some pro-life Republicans to believe abortion education is a more effective strategy than outlawing it. Many Libertarians seem happy with a lot of the Trump Administration's policies, though they may disagree with implementation, like "due process" for illegal alien deportations.

We've just passed the 100-day mark of Trump's second presidency. Change is happening so fast that a lot of people are freaked out by its pace and volume--mostly people on the left. The right voted for change, the change Trump ran on, and are thrilled to watch it happening at breakneck speed in real time.

I was watching a TV interview today about military technological innovations and the new U.S./Ukraine minerals deal. The interview was followed by a White House Press Briefing about abolishing the Department of Education and Trump's signing an Executive Order to protect religious liberty, among many things. This is just one morning on Trump Time.

The left calls it "chaotic" and "destabilizing." Can some things, like tariffs, be destabilizing? Yes. Is that always bad? No. The New Republican party's position is that the status quo is unacceptably dangerous and change--rapid, immense change--is necessary for America's survival.

The left likes its change stirred nice and slow. The toxic brew of leftist ownership of media, academia and culture simmered to a boil during the Obama and Biden Administrations. There was a Trump Administration in between, but COVID seemed to erase a lot of what Trump tried to do. The rest was undone by Biden's executive orders and leftist tracks laid deep underneath Washington by Obama and his ilk running a parallel government that stopped Trump's progress.

New Republicans saw their country dying before their eyes and moved to stop it by re-electing Donald Trump--a disrupter, change agent, a doer. Even Democrats knew the country was starving for change as they laughably tried to run the current Vice President as the "change" candidate.

Changes coming out of Washington during this new Trump Administration are too numerous to list, but we all feel the inertia. Leftists reacted by self- infantilizing. Septuagenarians/octogenarians lead sit-ins and rallies at which they're all required to drop F-bombs, somehow managing to sound like they're headed to The Oval for a gangbang, and (oh my God) sing-alongs. It could work. The singing is so bad they might get what they want if it'll make them stop--like waterboarding or blasting Metallica to prisoners around the clock at Guantanamo Bay.

They've also returned to Fearmongering's Greatest Hits aimed at the elderly and disabled, making their 2012 "Throw Granny off a Cliff" ad campaign look like Sesame Street. Only the most craven politician goes out of his way to make the most vulnerable Americans think they're about to lose their Social Security and housing, especially while knowing it's not true. It's effective because these groups have disproportionately low incomes, which often leaves them with access solely to leftist media sources that put them in information silos the left counts on.

But most New Republicans are happy. For example, Republicans overwhelmingly approve of DOGE, with a CBS News/YouGov poll showing 81 percent of Republicans think DOGE should have "a lot" or "some" influence over spending and operations of government agencies. New Republicans are excited about the prospect of aggressively saving taxpayer dollars, something that would have put people to sleep five years ago. Trump's immigration policy is overwhelmingly popular with New Republicans as well.

Sure, not all New Republicans love everything Trump's doing. I don't trust anyone who loves everything any politician does. It's sycophantic. I didn't love everything my husband did, and he was my husband. We should examine the policies of politicians we agree with and speak out if we don't agree. With our newer, bigger tent sheltering many high-profile former Democrats, New Republicans can do this in ways Democrats can't. For example, I'm not a fan of Trump's "Gold Card" for bringing in rich immigrants or his selling any merch like shoes, etc. I know conservative Republicans who feel Kilmar Abrego Garcia needs to come back to the U.S. for more "due process." Yet, when an illegal alien has been adjudicated deported twice, how much process is still due?

It's good to respectfully disagree with our own side, especially if we can foster debate and make sense while doing it. New Republicans are having a very good time under the second Trump Administration. Democrats are still going with "recite the talking points, fall in line, or get primaried/cancelled."

If my Dad were still alive, I'd love to ask, "What's a Republican now, Daddy?" He was a politically savvy guy. I think he'd say they're people who love the Tilt-a-Whirl change the New Republican party espouses because they love the country they're trying to save, staying in place without change was not an option, and they're willing to go along for the wild ride even if they sometimes feel the need to hold on for dear life.

Democrats are on the sidelines watching, afraid, nauseated and weak. Change is too scary for them. Now they're the ones who want things to stay the same.

In an exchange meant to make her sound like a nice person, Senator Tammy Baldwin (D) of Wisconsin announced she's planning to bring a guest to President Trump's address to Congress tomorrow night. In an appearance on MSNBC's "Morning Joe," she said she's bringing a woman with cancer who is "terrifed about the possible impacts of a cut to Medicaid."

I'm sorry a woman has cancer. I'm sorry she needs Medicaid for her treatment. Mostly, I'm angry that she's "terrified" because the bellows stoking her fear is her Democrat host for tomorrow's speech.

I first became aware of the depth of the terrorism (yep) perpetrated by the left as regards entitlement programs in an online group for a rare disease from which I suffer. Immediately after Trump's election victory, the woman who started the group into which she'd poured years of hard work announced she was shutting it down because Trump "ran on cutting Medicaid, subsidized housing, and abolishing the Americans With Disabilities Act" (ADA). Making sure she didn't lose housing, medical care, food support and civil rights would be a full-time job. No more time for anything else for her or, as she warned, the other disabled people in the group. I wasn't a frequent visitor to this group because I don't like to define myself by my medical condition, but I did hop on occasionally to ask questions about a disease that I sometimes have to spell for doctors. But for many, it was a lifeline.

These are the actions of a terrorized person. When her stunning announcement was made in a series of rolling posts over weeks, group members were expressly told no questions were allowed--confirmation bias only, please. Some people who seemed truly fearful upon hearing this "news" tried to ask for sources but were removed or ignored. Terror spread.

It's not my intention to mock this woman and the other terrified people. What you may be detecting as snark is anger and deep sadness about what these people are going through. These stories are illustrative of the effects of Democrat propaganda fed to vulnerable people. The Democratic Party should swap out their donkey icon for a spoon.

In the months since the election, I've tried to find any mention of Trump's saying he's cutting these programs. I've found the opposite. He has expressly said he isn't, and I can't even find his mentioning the ADA.

That's not to say I'm in love with the budget bill. It sets the budget goals for fiscal years 2025-2034. It raises spending across all sectors every year. This isn't new. I recall pundits saying only a Democrat can call a spending increase a cut.

So where are the savings supposed to come from? From cutting wasteful spending. This has been directed to be done carefully by each department, not just by DOGE but by the departments themselves. If the $2 Trillion in cuts can't be achieved, the bill directs that the tax cuts be rolled back to make up for it. If it looks like they'll have to cut at the meat of important entitlement programs, it's up to the American people to push back on that. These plans will take time. Nobody is cutting Medicaid tomorrow--if at all--in a way that will hurt the poor and disabled.

So lets cut the hysteria. It's impossible to research this topic (save reading the actual bill) without slogging through a swamp of hyperbolic opinion pieces talking about how important benefits for the needy may have to possibly potentially be cut. Interestingly, few of them include cuts in waste or fraud in their fictional yarns about how cuts would/could be done, and if they mention it, it's only to say fraud is extremely rare. Speculative hand-wringing pieces about how spending cuts could potentially be horrific are endemic. No wonder people are afraid.

These successful terror tactics are diabolical and as old as politics. Trump says something and people then fill in what they think he must really mean or follow their own crazy domino theories of what one of his actions will surely lead to. Then they present it as fact. The piles of media about looming devastating cuts are merely theories manufactured by people who are critical of everything Trump does, so all of their hypothetical outcomes are horrible. The narrative itself is horrible too.

Like this headline from the Autism Self Advocacy Network, "ASAN condemns Trump's baseless attacks on people with disabilities." The article says Trump blamed January's plane/helicoptor crash on disabled people. Remember when he did that? You don't because he didn't. What he really said was that DEI was responsible; yes, seemingly without evidence. I didn't approve of his timing. But that is not the same as saying disabled people caused the crash. That is simply a group with an axe to grind trying to move people to action by putting words in Trump's mouth.

Most of the media's language surrounding Trump's alleged cutting of entitlement programs stems from the aggressive $2 Trillion spending cut goal in the latest budget language and from DOGE's stated goal. People run with that and say things like, "This may lead some people to think that it might be possible that the government could maybe potentially cut entitlements because we don't see how you can cut that much from the budget without likely enacting entitlement cuts."

Is that a direct quote? No. Is it an accurate depiction of the prolifigate use of qualifiers used in everything I've read on the subject? Yes.

Agressive cuts to waste, fraud, abuse and simple overspending might, maybe, possibly, probably, lead people to think, make people believe--these are the words and phrases used around the idea that Trump's spending goals could, in someone's opinion, lead to entitlement cuts. The most often-cited reason is they can't see any other way, which could mean they lack imagination, intelligence, political will, or they could be right. But there are no true data, just scare tactics wrapped in CYA qualifiers used to incite terror in the most vulnerable among us and those who care for them.

I have some words for what Democrats and their media partners are doing here: shamful, discraceful, cold blooded, political, evil.

Think of these motivations as they parade their "plus ones" at tomorrow's speech. CNN reported that the House Democratic Policy and Comminications Committee sent a memo to Democrats to bring someone who has been hurt or will be hurt (?) by Trump's policies. I understand there'll be a number of disabled veterans there. It would be nice to think the disabled are actually being respected by congressional Democrats instead of used as props to prove some nebulous point or to terrify other disabled people even more.

Yeah. That would be nice.

Beware of refusing government benefits--they'll punish you for life

Eliminating penalties could save government $12 Billion annually

There are two ways they'll get 'cha:

1. Widows/Widowers/Divorcees

Your spouse has died while employed. He died before retirement age, or he/you are past retirement age and he was still working. (This also applies if you're younger but legally disabled.) You were on his employer's health insurance plan. If you don't make the right decision, you will pay penalties for the rest of your life.

When your spouse dies while employed, you'll be offered COBRA benefits, even if you're Medicare eligible. COBRA legislation was passed in 1985 to give employees and their dependents temporary access to their former employer's health insurance plan. You can receive COBRA for 36 months after your spouse's death. What if you choose it?

COBRA is no walk in the park. While it gives continuity of care to widows (whom professionals advise not to make important decisions for a year), it's expensive. With COBRA, your spouse's employer provides an umbrella for you to continue on the identical health plan you're used to. Many choose it because they've met their deductible for the year. Some choose it due to complex medical issues for which they've assembled teams of caregivers. The only difference is that now you're responsible for the entire premium. Many widows won't be able to afford that, but some will and will do it just to avoid adding more change to an ever-growing pile of change at the worst time in their lives.

If you wish to end it or it expires, you'll need to go on Medicare. That's when you'll find out you've made a big mistake, and you had no idea this was even a thing, let alone something that would cost you more money forever.

You will be charged, without exception, a 10 percent penalty for each year you were eligible for Medicare but chose not to enroll. For example, if you choose to stay on COBRA for the allowed 36 months, you'll pay 30 percent more for your Medicare premium for the rest of your life.

How the Affordable Care Act (aka ObamaCare) makes Medicare penalties possible:

It's an astonishing feat of slight of hand, really. The ACA mandated that people have and employers offer "creditable coverage." This means it must be "affordable" and offer "minimum essential coverage." "Affordable" is whatever they want it to mean. "Minimum essential coverage" is important medical coverage like single men having coverage for prenatal care.

Most widowed people never think going on COBRA is a risk to their financial future because it's identical to the plan they were on when their spouse died. The reason COBRA doesn't meet the standard under the ACA is it's not "affordable."

So the government penalizes you for choosing expensive health insurance, whatever your personal reasons, during what experts say is the most stressful time in a person's life, because they decided for you that it's too expensive. So, to remedy that they make you pay more money for your Medicare insurance for the rest of your life.

Well, that sounds reasonable to absolutely no one. Especially because nobody tells you this when you're faced with the decision. When asked why they don't mandatorily tell widows about the COBRA penalty, the Social Security representative I spoke with after 9.5 hours on hold said it's because, well...because they don't. "It's not in the packet we have for widows." That was the actual answer. Even though every widow with a working spouse will be offered COBRA because it's the law.

2. Retirement-age workers:

Our aging population and bad economy has led to more people (11 million) working past retirement age. According to the Pew Research Center, 62 percent of retirement-age workers work full time, a 33 percent increase since 1987.

You become eligible for Medicare in the seven months straddling your 65th birthday. If you or your spouse have the audacity to work and stay on your employer's health plan past that age, you're going to eventually pay the price. Pew also notes that record numbers of retirement-age workers are eligible for employer benefits like 401(k), pensions, and health insurance. You decide to take it.

Here's where you'll get tripped up. The majority of older workers work for small companies. Small companies don't have to offer health insurance under the ACA, but if they do, they're "required" to offer "creditable coverage." If your insurance doesn't meet that standard, you'll be penalized when you go on Medicare.

Your employer doesn't really have to tell you the insurance they offered doesn't meet the standard. Surprise! This happens more often than you'd expect because the ACA allows for substandard plans to be "grandfathered" and "grandmothered(?)" in. The "requirement" is a soft requirement, which results in the company's not so much being required to provide creditable coverage as your being required to receive it. I've spent hours researching whether small companies pay a per-employee penalty for doing this (large ones do) and some resources say they do, some say they maybe do, some say they don't... I give up. I'm sure that's how they feel too when met with these reams of regulations.

They use the same 10-percent-per-eligible-year penalty system for these workers. I couldn't find any reference to a percentage cap, e.g. if you work until age 75, you'll pay 10 percent for the 10 years you could have been on government insurance. That's a 100 percent penalty, doubling your premium for the rest of your life. If you work longer, it'll be more. (There are also potential Medicare Part D penalties under this scenario, but this is already an exhausting amount of information, so I won't go into that now.)

And here you thought you were saving the government money by not burdening them with your healthcare bills and taking care of it independently! It seems the government thinks that's a bad thing. They argue that they want literally everyone who's eligible for Medicare to enroll because they're spreading the risk by making healthier people pay premiums to cover costs for less healthy enrollees. I understand that risk pools are a part of insurance underwriting, but I'd like some hard data on how much money they're saving under this system.

Possible Solutions

Does the penalty system profit the government on the backs of some of society's most vulnerable: widowed people, the elderly, and the disabled? How does the math shake out from the penalties collected vs money saved by not having to pay for their medical bills for years?* I think at least an estimation of that data should be available and debated so we can move to the important thing: changing policy.

Medicare doesn't tell you about these penalties. The bipartisan BENES 2.0 Act would require them to warn people about the penalties of delaying Medicare enrollment, but there has been no action on the legislation since it was introduced in May of 2023. They should add language to the bill (just in case someone tries to read it again) that mandates all widows be warned during their inevitable contact with Social Security after their spouses die so they, I don't know, WON'T CHOOSE COBRA.

Legislation was introduced in May, 2024 to allow those on COBRA to enroll in Medicare Part B without penalty. One problem with the bill is that it would apply only to those who begin COBRA coverage January 2025 or later. I'd make it retroactive. In fact, I prefer a bill that wipes out penalties altogether for the 779,400 Americans who pay them (as of 2021, the last year for which data is available).

If I could make policy, I'd eliminate the penalties (retroactively) and (after looking at the numbers) propose a 5 percent decrease in premiums for each year someone doesn't enroll in Medicare.

After all, we already have laws in place to help delay people's retirement as long as possible (raising retirement age, increasing benefits for each year you delay, not giving widow's benefits to widows younger than 60, etc.) to keep income taxes rolling in and Social Security dollars in government pockets. Why are opposite systems in place to encourage Medicare enrollment as soon as possible?

Why not a carrot rather than a stick? It's just a hypothesis, but given our population's demographics and increased life expectancy since Social Security was enacted, it could wind up saving taxpayer dollars while simultaneously giving a break to these hardworking, sometimes broken people. Unless saving money isn't really the goal.

Oooh, and while we're problem solving, maybe we should take another look at that Affordable Care Act. Do it for the widows and the elderly.

*Our federal government spends $848.2 billion per year on Medicare, $15,727 per Medicare recipient. Costs have risen from 10 percent of our federal budget to nearly 14 percent in the last 30 years. Medicare Parts B and D have several revenue streams (including premiums), but most revenue is from "government contributions." If each of the 779,400 people who currently pay Medicare penalties delayed enrollment for just one year, it would have saved taxpayers more than $12.3 billion. If each person pays a 10 percent penalty for that year, the government earns just $14.5 million. So, I suppose, they're making money on both ends in the current system, because each person who delays also pays. But incentivizing them to continue on private insurance could save more money than penalizing or threatening penalties if they don't. It's an imperfect calculation, but it shows me that we'd save a lot of money if we encouraged people to delay Medicare enrollment rather than penalizing them.

Do your Thanksgiving plans pass the deathbed test?

There will be three empty seats at my family's Thanksgiving table. My husband, his little brother and my father all died in one year's time. If they were alive, they wouldn't miss it for the world. In addition, there will be no sweet dog under the table waiting for someone to drop food. If he were alive and well, even he wouldn't miss it.

I assume if you're reading this, you're alive. In my opinion, being dead is the only good reason for missing a Thanksgiving dinner you would have attended had the presidential election results been different. Some of you were planning to be there but you're following the advice of many disgruntled Harris voters and rejecting your family and/or friends because they voted for Trump. Please take more time to think before doing something you can't take back.

And if you're a Trump voter who won't shut up about how his winning is the greatest, please appease your loved one who is upset about how you voted, stuff your mouth with turkey, and let it go for a day.

I understand these things can be very upsetting, and I empathize. I've been there. The presidential candidate I voted for hasn't won my state since I began voting in 1984. Sometimes my candidate won the general election, but I've been on the losing side of the presidential election five times. I doubt many voters have had uninterrupted winning streaks, so we've all been where you are now, and it sucks.

Since the election, there's been a lot of bad advice going around leading people to do some pretty distressing things. Women shaving their heads; vowing to abstain from sex; saying they wrote off their sister "and it felt so good;" people ending online "friendships" with people they now consider Nazis; grieving, confused parents reeling after being told by their children not to set a place for them at a holiday table ever again because of how they voted.

On MSNBC, a psychiatry resident affiliated with Yale advised people to skip the holidays with family if they voted for Trump. “To say, ‘I have a problem with the way that you voted because it went against my very livelihood, and I’m not going to be around you this holiday, I need to take some space for me,’” she said.

"Take some space for me" when it's not all about you because there are other people at that table.

If you're disappointed, upset or devastated about the election results, you've had a couple of weeks to deal with your feelings. So now it's time to do a little exercise:

Picture yourself on your deathbed. (It may be easy for those who've faced their own mortality or who've experienced loss. It may be harder for the young or those who've never lost anyone, but try to picture it anyway.) Pretend someone who loves you is there holding your hand and asks, "Is there anything you regret?
Dig deep and be honest with yourself. If you dump family or friends because of this election, will you think of the person you rejected in 2024 and deeply regret it on your deathbed?
Ask yourself: Will you be able to fix it, make it right? As someone who lost my best friend to politics, I can say from experience that deathbed reconciliations, while better than nothing, ring hollow because of the time lost before your loved one died. I thought we'd have time to fix our friendship when cooler heads prevailed, but she got sick and died. Love isn't a faucet you can turn on and off. Though you're estranged from your loved one, chances are if one of you is leaving this earth, love will win.
Ask yourself why you're choosing loss for a politician who'll never know your name. I promise Kamala Harris won't be by your side holding your hand as you pass. The same goes for Donald Trump. No matter how much time, money or emotion you've poured into this election, you don't know or love these people. They don't love you.
It's time to get real, and the only thing in this world that's real is love. If you love someone, or if you are loved by someone and you're willing to throw it away over politics, you'll probably live to regret it. Ask yourself if you'd rather have a few difficult discussions about your differing politics or die with regret.
What if it's not you on the deathbed? Maybe it's your grandma, one of your parents or, God forbid, a child. Maybe you won't be there holding their hand at the end because you let something as ephemeral as the politics of this moment destroy the love in your real life. Maybe sudden death will take away the chance for a deathbed reconciliation, and you'll be left with no choices at all. Just loss.
Think about your family gathered around the Thanksgiving table and know that any one of them could be gone by next year. This could be your last chance.

Indulge my lecture because I know loss. I'm a relatively young widow who had no close girlfriends to help me through it because I'm the only one of us who made it out of her 50's. The last few years have been a growing snowball of death, and I know it's not over. Your parent or grandparent would likely die for you. They might give you more than they can afford to give to keep you from being homeless or hungry. Your real friends, the ride-or-die kind who've been with you through everything aren't replaceable. These people and the love they have for you are a gift, and as the saying goes, they aren't like busses. There won't be another one coming in 10 minutes.

So please rethink your decision to end relationships with loved ones over this election or any future one. I know the stakes were high. I know each side believed this was the most important election of their lifetimes. I believed it. I've been around long enough to bet this won't be the last time we believe it.

If your post-election relationship problems don't pass the deathbed test, then please suck it up and spend Thanskgiving with your family. Realize that though you think you're punishing them by skipping Thanksgiving, you're hurting yourself too. Try to make a pact with your loved ones not to discuss it. If Uncle Joe won't shut up about it, don't punish mom and dad for it. They'd throw themselves in front of a train for you, so get on one and go see them.

Our loved ones may die and leave us, but our regrets won't. If you decide to go to Thanksgiving dinner with family despite your political differences--even though it's hard, even if it's not fun--I bet you won't regret it on your deathbed.

Lies that divide

I belonged to an online group for people with a rare medical condition. The admin shut the group down after years of running it. Her reason was that just surviving was going to be a full-time job for disabled people because "Trump ran on getting rid of Social Security, Medicare, and disability benefits." They claimed he's going to sign an Executive Order to get rid of the Americans With Disabilities Act. If people in the group sincerely asked for clarification or became worried and scared too, they were met with silence. This makes me both sad and angry.

The stars of Morning Joe, Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough, are the kinds of media personalities responsible for a lot of the post-election fear Democrat voters are experiencing. They had Trump on their show so many times in 2016 that it likely helped him get elected. He was a personal friend. Then they spent eight years calling him Putin's Nazi white supremesist dictatorial dementia patient. Fast forward a couple of weeks, and these two "journalists" just came back from a visit to Trump's Florida residence, Mar-a-lago. So now that he's going to be the president again, he's not all of the things they were calling him just days ago? I know that I wouldn't get on a plane to break bread with a Nazi white supremesist dictator. Would you?

So what's happening here? Mika and Joe clearly never believed a word they were saying on air. It was all about ratings or doing what the bosses wanted or something. And there's a lot of it going around. It's becoming obvious to many (though it was clear to others already) that many of these "journalists" and TV personalities were LYING TO YOU. I'm so sorry for the people, some whom I know personally, who believed them because the talking heads on TV didn't even believe themselves.

There are a lot of really frightened, angry Americans because of these liars. Are you going to let them lie to you and then steal people who love you from you by telling you to get kick them out of your lives? I truly hope not.

Some on TV seem to believe what they say on air, like the cast of The View. We can respect people who have different views than we do if they're at least honest about their beliefs. But I can't respect people who only seek to divide. So to all the people who are terrified that your Medicare/Medicaid benefits are going to be slashed because Democrat legislators said it just to scare you, or are worried that your favorite on-air personality is going to get locked in some Trump-sanctioned concentration camp because your favorite on-air personality said so, I hope you're going to be okay. You'll never see this, because you clearly don't stray from your bubble, or you wouldn't be going online acting completely delusional and stopping years of hard work that helped people because you were spoonfed lies that divide.

What life is like under Harris-Walz

How could we know? Those of us who live in Minnesota know. We've lived under the federal policies of Biden-Harris for almost four years. We've lived under the control of Governor Tim Walz for six years. Combine the effects of those two sets of elected leaders, and we have life under Harris-Walz. I don't think this is what joy feels like. Please learn from us and work to make sure this destructive duo doesn't bring their brand of joy to your lives too.

Minnesota has made national headlines in recent years for all the wrong reasons. We used to be known as the birthplace of F. Scott Fitzgerald, Bob Dylan, and Prince. Now, we're known as the birthplace of the Defund the Police movement, changing lives across the U.S. for the worse, and as the place that elected the off-puttingly strange Walz as its governor not once, but twice.

Life for many of us has become increasingly hard for many reasons because of the failed leadership of these two. First I, then my mother, were widowed 364 days apart under Harris-Walz. Their policies made our lives much more difficult than they'd have been under better leadership.

Unfortunately, an accurate picture of life under Harris-Walz requires some math.

"Bidenomics" was repeatedly touted by Vice President Kamala Harris as "working," We two Minnesota widows have had to deal with Walz' penchant for raising taxes coupled with Biden-Harris' inflationary policies that have made life very expensive, not just for us, but for everyone. Minnesota boasts the 8th largest income tax rate and the highest corporate tax rate in the nation. People are fleeing in droves.

My mom has spent the two winters since dad died rationing her heating oil, which went up by a staggering 99.6 percent between Biden-Harris taking office in January 2021 and my father's death in 2022. She keeps her thermostat in the 50s during cold winter nights. My property taxes are skyrocketing, so my house payment rises. Cost of upkeep rises. The same thing is happening to my mom.

The week after my father died, my 81-year-old mother was back at the job from which she had retired to ask for it back. Now age 83 and a recent cancer survivor, she holds three jobs. She said, "Because of inflation and taxes, it's almost like I didn't go back to [the aformentioned job]. It's a wash financially." Thus the other two jobs.

"But inflation is going down!" people say, while they mean, "prices are going down." They're not. They're up 20 percent because inflation should be added up year over year.* If inflation is down to 3.2 percent from its high of 8.0 in 2022, it doesn't mean prices are going down, it just means they're going up at a lower rate. (We really need to do something about our education system because this shouldn't have to be Dick-and-Janed to anyone.)

Walz has passsed an ungodly amount of tax hikes. He's repeatedly raised taxes (despite a growing surplus) on the middle class while enacting an insanely expensive green agenda. The MN Department of Health and Human Services has been embroiled in an unbelieveable amount of scandal during Walz' tenure, the most recent of which involves $250 million in stolen COVID funds meant to go toward feeding hungry children. No hungry children were fed. Walz has been issued subpoenas by three federal agencies regarding the scandal.

Speaking of scandals, under Tim Walz, our beautiful city, Minneapolis, is so crime-ridden and in many places, desolate, that many people who don't live in it don't want to go there, or do so only if they absoutely have to. Many who live there have lost their businesses or livelihoods forever.

"Crime is down. The numbers prove it!" people will say. But when Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) numbers are calculated correctly, crime is up. Since 2020, the Minnesota BCA numbers show violent crime has gone up by 23.3 percent statewide.** And nobody can claim "crime's going down now," because it dropped by a lesser percentage in 2023 (6.9) than 2022 (8.6), so it's going UP. Tim Walz has overseen all of it.

Walz took three days to call in the National Guard during the Floyd riots. When asked to do it, he disparaged the Guard by saying they were not highly-trained soldiers but were just "19-year-olds who are cooks." Nice words for a man who "proudly served" 24 years in the Army National Guard.

He ordered Minneapolis' 3rd Precinct police to "stand down," to flee, to let it burn. As we watched the fleeing and flames, I said to my husband, "this is going to set a precident for the nation." I'm not psychic, just awake. Walz helped launch the Defund the Police movement, a local cancer that metastasized nationally post Floyd and helped increase crime and deflate morale among police everywhere.

If you live in a city outside of Minnesota that was burned, looted, destroyed and/or not rebuilt in 2020, you have Tim Walz to blame.

This is just a small sample of the joys of living under Harris-Walz. Walz gave us COVID snitch lines meant to pit neighbor against neighbor; he seized and held onto COVID emergency powers with an iron grip, only relinquishing them after the MN Senate wrestled them away after 17 months; he signed more than 100 executive orders during that reign of power; his mandate to send COVID-positive patients to nursing/care homes caused preventable deaths of the elderly and disabled giving MN the highest percentage of COVID deaths at nursing facilities in the nation; millions of missing COVID relief dollars; rampant scandals; making MN a "Trans Refuge State," thereby sanctioning child kidnapping by the state and stripping away parental rights; our unofficial sanctuary state status via generous welfare benefits for illegal immigrants, making us a magnet for them after we already took in huge numbers of refugees, straining all of our resources from medical care to schools.

Harris gave us tie-breaking votes in congress that caused high inflation; Bidenomics, which didn't delicately place the American dream into the dustbin of history but threw it into a trash compactor; the fastest growing segment of job seekers are retirees; food shelves struggling to keep up with demand; families becoming homeless due to exploding rent and mortgage rates; stratospheric cost increases across all energy sectors; wars breaking out around the world; 350 million missing children; a border open not only to those yearning to breathe free, but to those seeking to destroy us, even if it's one woman or child at a time.

Our lives under Harris-Walz could be yours if we don't vote to stop it.

The good news is that America has been in bad shape before and recovered. Minneapolis was dubbed "Murderapolis" in the 90s, but crime had come down significantly by the end of Republican Tim Pawlenty's two terms as governor. The gas lines and rising interest rates of the Carter years led to the Reagan recovery because people were sick of their plummeting standard of living and voted their way out of it.

We too can vote our way out of this. We need to do it. My mom can't work forever, and I will lose the home my husband and I worked so hard for if our economic policies don't change. Our children, grandchilden and great-grandchildren deserve a future that's much better than life is now.

I hear there are about three persuadable people in the country right now. But since my family has lost three Republican men since the last presidential election, I'm hoping to persuade at least three people to vote Republican if they haven't yet, or if they were planning to sit it out--please don't. Hungry children and exhausted widows are depending on you. We could use some joy.

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.'s pending court case is America's only hope to reverse it for future elections

In the movie, "A Few Good Men," Jack Nicholson's character famously screams, "You can't handle the truth!"

Can you handle the truth? Can you handle a lie? Or do you, an adult who can vote, take up arms, enter into contracts, etc., need government to decide for you what you can and cannot hear, see, or know, and where information is allowed to come from?

Do you need to be protected so you don’t have to do the work of deciding what’s true? Or worse, do you need to be fed an unbalanced diet of heaping helpings of propaganda? Your government thinks you do.

You may not have heard of Murthy vs Missouri. It was a case decided by the Supreme Court in June and reported with barely a whisper, though it affects every American just as much, if not more, than the cases the media shouted about.

It's a startling example of government's fight to censor speech, and the Supreme Court's ruling allows the Biden-Harris administration and its agents to continue to ask or threaten social media companies to censor information it doesn't want its citizens to know.

Because of that decision, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., has brought a new case that may be our last best hope to keep government out of the censorship business. Since he's one of what the U.S. Governement calls "The Disinformation Dozen," a group frequently targeted for censorship by the Biden-Harris administration, he may have a better chance of prevailing. (The fact that our government has such a name for any group of Americans based upon their excercise of their First Amendment rights should scare all of us.)

In a nutshell, the Biden-Harris administration (using plaintiff Surgeon General Vivek Murthy's name) was fighting to continue to censor online "misinformation, disinformation" in matters ranging from COVID 19, the Afghanistan withdrawal, Ukraine funding, to elections. Attorneys General from Missouri, Louisiana, and five citizens who claimed they'd been censored were fighting to stop them.

Though the Court decided against the plaintiffs, they didn't dispute the facts cited in the lower court case that the Biden Administration and its agents engaged in censorship via threats to and coersion of social media companies. This is real, it happened, and thanks to the Court's ruling, it continues.

The case began its life as Missouri v Biden. The Fifth Circuit court ruled against Biden et al. The ruling reads like a distopian movie script in which the FBI and other agencies dangled threats that included inacting Section 230 restrictions to get companies like Facebook to play along. Section 230 protects online media companies from being held liable for what people post on their platforms. Meta owner Mark Zuckerberg said revoking it would be an "extential threat" to his platforms.

In Missouri v Biden, the judge wrote, "...the present case arguably involves the most massive attack against free speech in United States’ history." Joe Biden, DHS, CDC, FBI, DOJ, and CISA were just a few of the many defendants. The resulting injunction required many defendants to immediately cease their censorship activities as regards social media platforms.

Then the Supreme Court took the case. When doing so, they stayed the lower court's injunction until they could hear the case, therefore allowing Biden et al. to continue "coercing" social media companies to censor whatever or whomever they choose.

I've read the ruling, which was a 6-3 decision penned by Justice Coney Barrett, and the dissenting opinion, penned by Justice Alito, as well. It's a lot.

To be clear, the Court doesn't reject the facts that the government and its agents engaged in "coersion and significant encouragement" to censor. They merely found that it was a poorly-constructed case and therefore lacked "standing" to bring it. Some reasons they lost the case were:

Because online media were busy little censorship bees prior to government threats (even if the threats broadened and extended censorship), they didn't prove that government was the first and only censorship entity. If the plaintiffs had sued the social media platforms as well, the Court may have been able to rule differently.
The Court said the plaintiffs had built their case not just on past harm due to government-required censorship, but that their case required a threat of "substantial future harm." They couldn't prove that the government would do it again. It's hard to prove a future action, so the case shouldn't have been built on this speculative requirement. It helped them lose.
They sued too many people. The list of defendants is so sweeping (41 individuals and 13 agencies/departments) that the Court found it hard to rule that they all had equal responsibility or outcomes. The Court didn't like that the case treated such a large group of defendants "as a monolith" and suggested the case was flawed by this grouping and justice would be better served had plaintiffs sued fewer entities and individuals or brought suit against each of them separately.

The ruling in Murthy v Missouri has left a road map for for others who can prove government censorship has harmed them, leading to RFK Jr's pending case, Kennedy v Biden. The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals has already ruled that Kennedy has standing. We can only hope that RFK Jr. has excellent representation and a case built on solid arguments. This case includes a large number of defendants as well (23 individuals in 7 agencies/departments).

In the meantime, the Biden-Harris administration, its elected and unelected officials named in the opinion--FBI, DOJ, DHS, State Dept., CISA, U.S. Election Assistance Committee (EAC), etc.--can continue to, as the dissenting opinion states, "browbeat" and "threaten" media to censor whomever they wish.

Page 142 of the Missouri v Biden ruling cites testimony showing that government censorship of speech about elections continues:

When asked if government cyber censorship of election speech established in 2020 is ongoing, FBI Agent Elvis Chan testified, "we've never stopped."

After election day 2024, there may be court cases or charges of fraud. Because government is allowed to censor, will people be able to speak freely about it? Not likely.

Allowed to continue unfettered, the Biden-Harris Administration and its agents will continue to do this, conveniently, right through the 2024 election. So think about this when you vote: which candidate fought, did battle, and threatened media to secure her ability to censor you?

Sometimes the truth hurts. It can be shocking. I think we can handle it. It should be a call to action to vote against censorship and for our right to speak freely. All of our other rights depend on it.

New law gives power over free speech to U.S. president--is ban of X planned?

Be careful what you wish for," as the old saying goes. And as I often say, "When they want you to look over here (and talk about the subject they choose), watch what they're doing over there."

While American news outlets were busy chattering about the South Carolina primary, impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas, etc., legislators were crafting this:

The bipartisan “Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Application Act” was signed into law in April 2024. It was, of course, shoved into a giant appropriations bill. (If you're slogging through the law, it's in Division H.) It not only requires a ban or forced sale of TikTok but gives unilateral power to the president of the United States to shut down online platforms.

This gives sweeping censorship powers not only to a person, but to an office, because power can always change hands. We're living in one of the most illustrative times in American history of that ever-present fact. As I write this, the president is...Joe Biden?

The TikTok ban doesn't doesn't take effect until 270 days after the law was enacted and gives the president power to extend it for 90 days. Why? I'm not a mind reader, but I believe the law was written with a seemingly-arbitrary 270-day grace period to give TikTok a chance to save itself (the left REALLY wants this), while making it look like they're banning TikTok (the right REALLY wants this), thereby punting a political football until after the 2024 election. Conveniently, 270 days from the law's enactment is January 19, 2025, otherwise known as Inauguration Eve.

Then it could be open season on X (formerly Twitter) or any other media platform the president sets his or her sights on. I question whether TikTok, the only platform named in the law, was its true target.

Watch how the law defines people it seeks to squelch with language so broad that it might be harder to find social media platform owners who don't meet the bar required for a platform's extinction:

The law ultimately allows the president to shut down any online platform whose owners or parent companies are controlled by a "foreign person or combination of persons" deemed adversaries.
An "adversary" is the above-mentioned person(s) who "is domiciled in, is headquartered in, has its principal place of business in" an adversarial country.
These persons must have at least 20 percent ownership "directly or indirectly" in the entity that owns the platform.
Most importantly, this law applies to "a person subject to the direction or control of a foreign person or entity."
The list of foreign adversaries can change at any time at the discretion of the Secretary of State.

This is an expansive, fluid law filled with definitions meant to apply to as many individuals and entities as possible. It gives power to one person and could apply to most online communications platforms.

If you’re comfortable with this power being given to our current president, would you be comfortable with it being given to the last one? Or the next?

Whatever you think of TikTok (I'm not a fan), contrary to what people who love it and use it believe, it allows U.S. government censorship. Whether or not X is censoring speech is more subjective. The left claims increased censorship of mostly pro-Palestinian content, and censorship claims by the right have largely disappeared with the platform's 2022 acquisition by X Corporation, owned chiefly by Elon Musk, a foreign-born billionaire.

The list of X Corp's investors changes, but most are not American. As the new law is written, the president wouldn't need to just look at Musk's financial ties in foreign adversarial countries, but at the totality of X Corp's investors.

An example of how this new law could be applied to X is that Musk's financial relationship with China is considered by some to be "cozy," and Tesla, which he also owns, is now an official car of the Chinese government. China is number one on the list of U.S. government adversaries. Few, if any, people who do business in China are not "subject to" their government's control.

Do you think there are any billionaire social media owners or large corporations, for that matter, who don't have business ties in China, the adversarial country cited in the TikTok ban? Whether it's good or not is up for debate. Since China joined the World Trade Organization in 2001, it's pretty easy to become financially engangled with them.

Proponents of the law would say, "Why would Americans want foreign adversaries involved in their social media platforms? Isn't preventing that a good thing?" On its face it seems so; however, most efforts to chip away at rights or privacy are presented under the guise of "who wouldn't think this is good, this is for our protection," e.g. the Patriot Act.

Only the People should have the right to control speech through free market forces. We should speak about subjects important to us often and persuasively. One step removed from our own speech is our giving consent to congress to make laws on our behalf. This isn't a perfect system. Our representative government failed to protect free speech as Congress used our fear of China to hand over unilateral power to the president to limit free speech via this new law. Elections matter.

This new law, sweeping anti-free speech laws just passed across western nations, and recent Supreme Court rulings on First Amendment cases (the subject of my next post), show that our fight for free speech is constant and requires diligent attention to its protection. In other words, don't let yourself be distracted lest your freedoms be taken away while you aren't looking.

Sparsely-attended Congressional hearing on Kabul Airport bombing

I wrote this piece the day of the bombing at Kabul Airport in Afghanistan, which took the lives of 13 American soldiers and injured countless more. I ran across it recently, and thought I'd share it today, on its third anniversary.

AUGUST 26, 2021: I tuned in to FOX today for news about the bombing at Kabul Airport in Afghanistan. I took a trip around the dial, as I often do, to see what other networks were reporting. CBS was covering it. NBC had Hoda and Jenna doing a tribute to kindness. I like kindness, but I think NBC could use some perspective on what's important to air during what seems like a historic moment.

ABC aired a rerun of the July 27 episode of The View, which opened with an extended clip of testimony by some capitol police officers from the most recent January 6 hearing. I'm not at all surprised.

The irony wasn't lost of me as I listened to a capitol police officer testify, "...I feel like I went to hell and back protecting [his kids] and the people in this room," he said of the events of that day almost eight months ago. "But too many are now telling me that hell doesn't exist, or that hell actually wasn't that bad...Truly nothing has prepared me to address those elected members of our government who continue to deny the events of that day, and in doing so betray their oath [sic] of office," he said in his rerun testimony, as hell played out in real time in Afghanistan.

President Biden announced in an April 14 speech that the U.S. would withdraw from Afghanistan between May 1 and September 11. On July 8, Foreign Policy Magazine published an exclusive interview with Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid. In it, he said that after foreign forces leave Afghanistan, the Taliban's goal is to create an “Islamic government,” and “we will be compelled to continue our war to achieve our goal.” Despite Biden's promise of an "orderly" exit, it was clear that this could get very messy.

They knew they'd be in the middle of this potentially messy withdrawal when they'd televise eight very public and publicized January 6 hearings, which lends credence to the theory of governmental/media misdirection. When they tell you to look over here, always ask, "What's happening over there that they don't want me to see?" They're still trying to misdirect as I write, with Hoda and Jenna prattling on.

I wonder when, or more importantly, if, we'll see a Congressional hearing on our withdrawal from Afghanistan. I wonder what the soldiers who are in the middle of this awful bloodbath would say.*

Turning back to The View, the "ladies" begin to give their reactions to the harrowing January 6 testimony. Still no word about Afghanistan. I turn it off in an effort to hold onto my breakfast. To run this episode today shows that ABC wouldn't know perspective if it crawled in bed and snuggled with them.

There's a startling lack of perspective on display everywhere you look. Some people are just in the wrong profession, and the list includes ABC executives (The View is in their news division), NBC executives, people producing and viewing January 6 hearings as infotainment, anyone in our government making decisions about Afghanistan, etc., etc. I don't accept any excuse for their lack of it.

I'm capable of perspective even though I just watched my husband go from robust health to taking his last breath in eight short weeks, during which we experienced hellish levels of incompetence and devastation. His little brother was found dead four days before my husband died, and I had keep it from him, for God's sake.

The nightmare hasn't stopped in the three weeks since his death. Everything that can go wrong has. Appliances breaking, mice invading, and a legion of devestating heartbreaks too personal to detail here. Planning his memorial service has been horrific. I insist it be held outdoors because Covid's Delta variant is here, so I'm afraid the governor [Tim Walz] will suddenly decide to make the event illegal if I have it indoors, and I can't get people to return my calls because hospitality has died along with my husband in the industry that bears its name. I'm left alone to deal with things that are too big for one person. I've never been so exhausted, so broken.

The cherry on top of all of the heartache and pain came two days ago. The head honcho at the cremation place called to say they FORGOT to take my husband's fingerprints, which I'd authorized to have made into jewelry for us to remember him by. Another loss in a hurricane of loss.

Even after all of that, just weeks after watching my life partner of 40 years die and all of the resulting stress and pain I'm living through, I say to myself when watching scenes of Afghanistan: people hanging from the wings of planes, mothers handing their infants to American soldiers, young women screaming for their suddenly dead husbands, "Those people have it so much worse than I do. God bless those people, and God damn those who made the decisions that led to this disaster."

Perspective. We need more of it.

*UPDATE: (If you Google hearings about the Afghanistan withdrawal, you get a lot of links to the hearing, held in March 2024, during which the Generals, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, etc., had their say. I had to dig to find a hearing with testimony from service people who were actually there.) The House Foreign Affairs Committee held a shameful, sparsely-attended hearing entitled, "During and After the Fall of Kabul: Examining the Administration’s Emergency Evacuation from Afghanistan” on March 8, 2023, notably just three months after Republicans regained the House. It's available on YouTube and was not cinematically produced by ABC. Witnesses included two soldiers who were there that day and several representatives of private agencies working to evacuate Americans and their Afghan partners, e.g., interpreters. One of the soldiers who testified--severely wounded that day--has a disclaimer under his name on the official Congressional Committee website that his testimony "...does not represent the views or opinions of the Department of Defense or U.S. Marine Corps." There is no similar disclaimer for any other witness or, notably, for any witness in the January 6 hearings.

Elitism driving continued school closings

Science from around the globe overwhelmingly shows that children are at extremely low risk of serious complications from COVID 19 and are rarely the cause of outbreaks. Many say this proves schools should reopen. Most teachers, administrators and union representatives have been arguing for them to stay closed. 

One argument I've been hearing in favor of reopening schools is that if people (adults who might be at higher risk), can go shopping at big box stores, then children should be able to go back to school. 

Favoring keeping schools closed, I've heard teachers, etc., answer that argument with the notion that nobody goes shopping at a big box store for seven hours a day, five days per week. They also add that we have to think about teachers and staff who might be at risk and "have families."

I'd bet on the fact that few people would shop at a big box store for that many hours. However, the workers at those big box stores probably spend 7 hours, 5 days per week (or more) at their jobs. Because they are essential workers. Because it's their job. They're also mostly adults (some at high risk), and, I believe, might actually have families. 

So tell me which is true: 

1) Teachers and school staff are non-essential, therefore expendable, or, 
2) They're just better than people who work at grocery stores.

Minnesota should pay its own bills - Even if it hurts

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has asked the federal government for "major disaster" aid to repair damage and other costs due to recent riots across the state. With damage estimated at more than a half billion dollars, this is, the governor wrote in his letter to President Trump, "the second most destructive incident of civil unrest in United States history after the 1992 Los Angeles riots."

Walz didn't mention in his letter that the major disaster was because he and other leaders sat back and allowed the Twin Cities to burn.

Why on earth should dollars from every taxpayer in the United States pay for the action or inaction of our feckless state and local leaders? Minnesota's ruins are not their fault. U.S. citizens had no hand in electing these fearful people who wouldn't know leadership if it threw a Molotov cocktail at them.

There's an old-fashioned notion called "principle." If you stand on it, it means you're on firm footing, solid ground. The principle here is that the cost of repairing the damage done to Minnesota cities should be borne only by those responsible. And yes, that is we, the citizens of Minnesota.

Like it or not, we are responsible for this mess. Responsible, principled adults pay their own way. You might be thinking, "I didn't vote for those impotent leaders, I voted against them." I understand how you feel, because I'm in the same boat.

We didn't vote for the likes of Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, who ran for office on his disgust for police shootings and inequality, and helped usher in a slew of policies to "fix" the problem only after Floyd. We didn't vote for any of those "in charge" who stood twiddling their thumbs and looking scared while their cities were destroyed around them, inspiring scathing articles to be written about their weakness in publications from New York to L.A. We didn't sanction those who ordered the police in the 3rd Precinct to run, sparking copycat attempts across the nation.

We didn't vote for Walz, who took an upside-down approach to Covid 19 and locked down all of Minnesota--even counties with no cases--during a pandemic that ravaged some states but remained fairly low here. (Care facilities were the exception, accounting for a staggering 80 percent of Minnesota's deaths, leaving another stain on our state.) The result was mass unemployment, economic and food insecurity, under-educated children, and confusion from the utter lack of logic of reopening the state as Covid cases rose. And stress. So much stress.

If you listened closely, you would have heard it. ...tick...tick...tick... The BANG that followed was as predictable as Covid outbreaks after the mask-free masses burst shoulder to shoulder into the streets with the blessings of officials, including Mayor Frey, who just days before had instituted mask mandates with $1,000 fines and threats against business licenses.

Yet we're still responsible, and we're going to have to pay the bill. We didn't vote hard enough. We didn't care deeply enough. We keep letting these people run the place, even though they're running it into the ground.

We sit at the table alone holding that bill because we can't hand it to those truly responsible: the state leaders who crafted the narrative that George Floyd was murdered; the race baiters who lit the fuse; the useful idiots who did the bidding of the Marxist, racist leaders who control them even if they don't know it; the DNC and their compatriots in the media who egged it all on. It's not possible to make them pay in the dollars it will take to rebuild these communities (unless Joe Biden's campaign wants to pony up some money, like it did with bail for rioters and looters who destroyed our city).

We can make them pay, however, with loss of power. Vote harder in November. Care more deeply. Do more. For God's sake, don't give your children's minds over to those who seek to indoctrinate them. Get loud. Make change happen. We have time, because a lot of these elected officials have years left on their terms. While we wait (and work), get ready for your taxes to go up, because they will.

We've paid in so many ways: fear, insecurity, loss of livelihoods, living in the national embarrassment that Minnesota has become. Even those across the state of Minnesota who don't have anything to do with what happens in "The Cities" still pay, and we're still responsible. We have no right to go to the federal government--our fellow Americans--with our hands out.

It's time to open our wallets. Maybe not just to pay for rebuilding what was torn down, but to help elect leaders who won't let it ever happen again.

How Dare You?

It's time for me to preach to the choir one last time. This is my last Friendly Neighborhood Republican political piece. I realize I'm never going to change the mind of one person who says, "C'mon media, lie to me some more." I can't help anyone for whom liberalism has become a religion, someone who never digs, reads or watches something from another perspective and who thinks left-wing media bias is just a vast right-wing fantasy.

This is for Republicans with whom I'm pretty damned angry; those who, given any other election, would have voted a straight Republican ticket, but this time... I've divided these voters into a few categories. My friends, I'm talking to you, and it's not that "friendly:"

I think this election's a joke: If you're thinking of doing a write-in vote for Mickey Mouse or your best friend instead of voting for someone who actually has a chance to win this thing, you have my disdain. Brave Americans have fought, died, lived with PTSD, been arrested and marched in the streets for your right to stand at that poll and throw your vote away because you think it's funny. It's not. People thought it was funny to vote for Jesse Ventura, and an entire generation of Minnesotans struggle with math as a result. Your jokes have consequences.
I'm a Rolls Royce Republican: You're the flip side of a Limousine Liberal. You're either so wealthy or self important that you believe no matter who wins it won't change your life. You think Trump is beneath you. Hell, you think this whole race is beneath you. And yes, when Hillary mandates single-payer healthcare, you may be able to buy into some Cadillac co-op, but what about your fellow Americans? The Clinton Machine has proven classism is thriving in America, so you know there are a different set of rules for you. You'll be able to keep your guns and get away with it, etc., etc. But if you have one moral bone in your body, which I believe you do, you'll understand that though you may be able to keep your lifestyle and even buy freedom (for a while), your fellow Americans cannot. Show your patriotism by voting on their behalf.
I'm intentionally uninformed: You think it's bad to read the Wikileaks information because it came by ill-gotten gains. You believe Democrats when they say the Wikileaks e-mails aren't real. Do you remember this is politics, people? Do you really believe CNN fired Donna Brazile for no reason? Do you think the DNC fired chairman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (immediately hired by upstanding moralist HRC) for giggles? These entities are proving the legitimacy of the Wikileaks e-mails from both the DNC and Hillary's campaign manager, John Podesta, by their resulting actions. Remember some of the e-mails are from the FBI as well. Read them, believe them, and realize this is how America will be treated if you allow Hillary to become our next president by your inaction.
Trump will get us into WWIII: You believe because of his brash style he'll pop off and say something to some dictator that'll get us into a war. That's speculation. A person's prior acts predict future acts. Hillary's much more hawkish than Trump, which her tenure as Secretary of State during which she destabilized Syria, Libya, Iraq (there are too many horrible actions to list) shows. There are U.S. troops, as I write, risking their lives to win Mosul back from Isis. Our troops already fought and died to win Mosul. Hillary/Obama's decision to pull out of Iraq has sent our men and women to death's red carpet to fight for a city they already won. Obama is actually willing and ready to get into a cyber war with Russia over the Wikileaks e-mails! Let that sink in. They're willing to commit an act of war against a nuclear power over e-mails about Hillary's campaign, not even United States secrets. Do you want that on your conscience?
I'm punishing somebody: You're a Trump supporter who's mad at a Republican member of congress because he won't endorse Trump. You're punishing him by not voting for him. The uber-liberal Democrat running against him will probably win, but you don't care. You think there's no difference between the two. Do you understand how this works? It's all about seats. If Republicans lose too many seats, Paul Ryan will no longer be Speaker of the House. You say, "He's a RHINO anyway." Sigh. It's imperative no matter who is president that Republicans maintain congressional power to balance power if Hillary wins and to help Republicans get their agenda made into law if Trump wins. Not to mention, the Speaker of the House is third in line to the presidency. If you don't vote Republican on the down ticket out of spite, we might get this. I hope it haunts your dreams.
My vote isn't important: This person also believes there is no voter fraud. No matter how many times you're told "every vote counts," it doesn't sink in. I live in Minnesota, a place where it feels like my many votes for Republican presidential candidates may as well have been burned. Whether the Republican won the national election or not, he never won my state. Don't be the kind of person who gives up. Participate in the process anyway because, just maybe, your vote could change the tide (not like Obama promised his presidency would do in 2008; Hubris is Obama's best friend).
I can't choose--they're both horrible: Do you think every other voter in America is dancing through a field of daisies because of what a fabulous choice they have? You think politicians are all corrupt. You're forgetting Trump isn't a politician. The very reason so many in the establishment are against him is because they're afraid for their often wasteful jobs. Yes, Trump has done and said bad things. But did he sell 20 percent of America's uranium to Russia? Or did he use his position as Secretary of State to take food out of the mouths of starving children in Haiti to fill his pockets? Think of it this way: which candidate do you think loves America and Americans and won't intentionally do harm? Which candidate will sell America to the highest bidder? Voting is partially about being an adult. Be a grown up and choose. Unless it's her. Then stay home.

A note to to Bernie supporters: I cannot for the life of me understand how you could go into that voting booth and choose the woman who stole your constitutional right to vote for the candidate of your choice. I'm not asking you to vote for Trump; but please, don't reward a person who screwed you against your will and then told you to just throw a little ice on that fat lip.

If you think you can just not vote, or leave the presidential vote blank, you may rationalize it by thinking, "I've washed my hands of this." But that doesn't leave you clean. Your inaction causes action, and your hands are still dirty.

Hillary makes blatant public call for voter suppression! (CAUTION: Satire Alert!)

On August 10, Hillary Clinton spoke to a rally of supporters in Des Moines, Iowa. Referring to Donald Trump's recent comments on the Second Amendment, she said: “Yesterday we witnessed the latest in a long line of casual comments by Donald Trump that crossed the line.” She went on to say, “As a young man in Florida said to me the other day, friends don’t let friends vote for Trump.”

Who has crossed the line now?

She's continued to say this phrase at rallies in the following days. "Friends don't let friends vote for Trump." I can't believe I'm hearing this from a presidential candidate. She's suggesting that her supporters commit voter suppression by stopping friends from voting if they intend to vote for Trump!

Voter suppression is, by definition, a strategy to influence the outcome of an election by discouraging or preventing people from exercising the right to vote. Isn't that exactly what Hillary is asking her supporters to do?

Adding to the offensive nature of this comment is the fact that it's a direct ripoff of the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) slogan, "Friends don't let friends drive drunk." In 1983, MADD introduced this slogan urging people to look out for the lives of friends and others on the road by stopping them from drunk driving. One popular TV commercial said, "...do whatever it takes to stop him." According to the AdCouncil, since MADD launched the campaign, 68 percent of Americans report they have tried to prevent someone from driving after drinking. It's clearly very effective.

How dare Hillary twist this laudable slogan to incite people to commit federal crimes!

By appropriating MADD's slogan, is Hillary suggesting her supporters "do anything to stop them?" The ways to stop someone from getting to the polls could be easily carried out on a massive scale, as she instructs them to do it at each rally she holds. All of her rallies are available online, thus expanding the numbers of devotees who'll hear her calls to action.

Hillary has repeatedly urged supporters to stop friends from exercising their right to vote because they'd vote for Trump. By using the plural "friends," she's asking her followers to commit multiple criminal acts of voter suppression. She leaves it to her followers to decide how to carry out this form of voter fraud.

Voter suppression laws vary by state, but federal laws supersede any state provisions in federal elections. There are specific federal laws against, and penalties for, bribing or in any way preventing a person from exercising his or her right to vote.

What kind of temperament must a presidential candidate have to openly tell people to commit voter suppression? Doesn't this repeated command alone suggest Hillary Clinton is unfit for the office of President of the United States?

This kind of dangerous rhetoric cannot go unexamined and ignored, but the mainstream media will likely do both. It's up us to point out this egregious authoritarian order for the mass commission of federal criminal voter suppression being made by a presidential candidate. Our election integrity is at risk.

Speaking about Trump's controversial Second Amendment remark, retired Gen. Michael Hayden told CNN, "You’re not just responsible for what you say. You are responsible for what people hear."

When Hillary says, "Friends don't let friends vote for Trump," some may hear the silly appropriation of a famous slogan meant to induce laughter. However, others may hear a command to commit voter suppression. How many will heed her call?

The real question is, why is Trump the only candidate to be held responsible for "what people hear?"

Twitter Nation: The fatal blow to civil discourse?

Twitter is an odd place. I don't think anything of importance should be discussed in 140-character quips. (I've always held disdain for Quippers.) I think it's a wasted place for truth seekers and people who like to argue specifics. Somewhere along the way we became a sound-bite nation. Twitter Nation is much worse.

Nothing makes me wince more than hearing, "the president tweeted..." Seriously? What could sound more undignified than that? I long for the days of, "the White House has released a statement..." I guess I'm just old fashioned, or I like to wade more than ankle deep.

I've responded to tweets about which the authors clearly knew nothing. I just want to discuss the issues. I've had many responses, but not about the subject, only barbs "informing" me that I'm stupid, uneducated, etc. One personal attack after another, some so specific I wondered why they'd bother because the odds they'd be correct were slim to none because THEY DON'T KNOW ME.

Typical, but not exclusive to Twitter. I've had painful personal experiences when having face-to-face political discussions with people who disagree with everything I stand for. You know those people. They exhaust the talking points they've been fed, and then it's guerrilla warfare on everything about your person.

There have been wild assumptions about my intellectual capacity, my physical health, my abilities (or lack thereof), even my sex life. This seems to happen only because, if we were politicians, there would be an (R) after my name and a (D) after theirs. It goes no deeper than that.

I once had a response to what was a very heartfelt essay I wrote about my father-in-law's funeral, with full military honors, at Arlington National Cemetery. I wrote it to both honor him and to give the reader an eye-witness account of a uniquely American experience most will never see. Not one political statement was in it. Yet some social media geniuses responded: "Nice piece, but it would have been more meaningful if you weren't a Republican."

Deep breath.

I've lost friends, or those I considered so, because of that (R). I've lost the common courtesy of neighbors because of the signs in my yard. Who does that?

I don't deny that conservatives sometimes originate getting-us-nowhere exchanges. (Donald Trump, are you listening?) But it seems to be a liberal gift, hewn and polished after years of indoctrination by media and education systems that deliberately discourage discourse and encourage skim-the-surface liberalism. Twitter, I believe, was inevitably conceived from this way of thinking. Its products of conception are too shallow to quench anyone's thirst, unless you thirst to belittle others. Things are seldom learned there. Ideas remain unchanged. Users tweet to the choir and bully those in the band.

I have a few lovely liberal friends who don't hate me for what I stand for, and I feel the same about them. We love each other because of shared experiences and so much more and, frankly, an explicit agreement to never let our politics get in the way of our relationships. We discuss this openly, and we mean it when we say it.

I don't think we have to be the exception. I've seen a marriage of more than 70 years last between a liberal and a conservative. They'd joke that when they went to the polls, they cancelled out each other's votes. This isn't the only such marriage I've seen.

So some of us are capable of much more than just peaceful coexistence. Most want to beat others over the head, and organisms like Twitter would die without them. I would not mourn.

As the great Joan Rivers used to say, "Can we talk?" I think the answer is: maybe. We're becoming a nation of bullies and bullshitters cloaked in the the anonymity Twitter provides. That's not talking. We may be a Twitter Nation, but it's not a Twitter Universe--yet. Discourse doesn't have to die, but only if we wish to resuscitate it. I'm hearing whispers of those who wish to truly discuss the hard stuff, but it's not really happening.

I don't want to declare the Death of Discourse. Yes, I'm enough of a hard-ass to truly believe the "low-information voter" will ruin the world. Yet, I'm an inherently nice person, and I like other people, even if they voted for Obama. Maybe I'm just some naïve "Minnesota Nicer" who wants to believe people can learn from one another, and that black and white aren't the only colors.

Twitter isn't the place for me. I'll visit occasionally, but I won't live there. I'll leave that to those who love to listen to the endless echoes of their own tweets.

Cast of "The View" need to be educated about women's issues

On September 10, "The View" made headlines for their hard-hitting phone interview with Donald Trump. After carefully considering the consequences, I'm not a Trump supporter, and I'm glad they were asking tough questions. During the interview, Whoopi told Trump, "...you've got to get a little bit more informed on what's going on with women's issues."

Yesterday, the ladies proved they could use some education as well.

Whoopi went on a tirade that reveals what she really believes Planned Parenthood does and how the possible loss of federal money that "isn't being used for abortions" (which she incorrectly says has been defunded--it hasn't, the house just voted to do it), could be catastrophic for women (her rant starts at 19:30):

Oh, where to begin. There are so many things to correct here. First, since Whoopi brought it up, let's remember why Planned Parenthood really came into being: (Please click on the quote to read about Margaret Sanger's real reasons, in her own words, for founding Planned Parenthood. I think it's especially important to view the video at the bottom of the page, which shows her racist agenda lives on.)

"We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population." - Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood, 1939

It seems Planned Parenthood wasn't formed at all because people were sick of "tripping over women with hangers hanging out of their bodies" so much as its founder was sick of tripping over people of color, an attitude that seems to exist within the organization today. Want to keep defending it, ladies?

During the Trump interview on September 10, Joy schooled Trump about Planned Parenthood, saying "Planned Parenthood does abortions for three percent of the people that come to them. The rest is women's health. The three percent is not federally funded, so nobody's tax money is being used for abortions..."

If that's true, then why did Whoopi launch into a diatribe about how defunding Planned Parenthood will make women be unable to get abortions? She argues that defunding Planned Parenthood is taking away women's rights to abortion, adding "that's not how our government works."

If I must Dick-and-Jane it to people who don't understand, I will: If federal money doesn't go toward abortions at Planned Parenthood, then defunding them shouldn't have any effect on a woman's ability to get one.

I've watched the show since the day it debuted. It was good to have women talking about important, fun, interesting topics. It's had many incarnations since--some good, some bad. But it's hit a new low. "The View" is now a bunch of ill-informed women with the same view who squash any opinions from the token "conservative," should she be allowed to speak. I don't remember that being Barbara Walters' vision, do you?

It wouldn't bother me except for the fact that the show has millions of viewers believing the outright lies and ignorant utterings they spew daily, which could very well influence the upcoming election.

They've lost an astounding number of sponsors in just the first two weeks of the new season because of their frivolity and ignorance of serious subject matter. It seems #DefundPlannedParenthood has a new buddy: #DefundTheView.

Planned Parenthood's biggest lie sullies two major ABC events in one week

Planned Parenthood, ABC, and its parent company, Disney, must be so proud. First the lie was parroted and told several times on the season 19 premiere week of ABC's "The View," and once by a U.S. Senator! Then, during an unusually-but-refreshingly-brutal on-stage question portion of the Miss America Pageant, it was told again. Has Planned Parenthood's biggest lie become the truth?

No, because the facts have not changed. Yes, because people perceive it to be absolute truth. In this case, perception trumps facts because not only does this lie help form people's opinions about what Planned Parenthood really does, the lie has and will continue to affect public policy.

The lie? Planned Parenthood provides mammograms. Every time you hear the word "mammogram" come out of the mouth of anyone speaking about how Planned Parenthood provides health care for women, it's a lie. It just is. Even if Senator Elizabeth Warren says it on "The View."

Now Planned Parenthood's lie has reached the Miss America stage showcasing how endemic this lie has become. Here it is, from the 2016 Miss America Pageant on ABC Sunday night:

Miss Tennessee parrots the lie that Planned Parenthood provides mammograms. Planned Parenthood doesn't provide mammograms.

I sought out a mammogram at every Planned Parenthood facility in my home state. I couldn't get one because they don't provide mammograms. They provide "mammogram referral," but not one single mammogram can be performed at a Planned Parenthood facility in my state, or in any state for that matter, because there is not one mammogram machine in any Planned Parenthood facility.

Any woman could get a mammogram referral from any medical clinic, hospital, internet search, or government agency. Planned Parenthood isn't needed for this.

Pro-life activist for Live Action, Lila Rose, took it many steps further. She attempted to get a mammogram at Planned Parenthood clinics across the United States. She couldn't get one. Why? Because Planned Parenthood doesn't do mammograms.

This lie has been deliberately being spread for a very long time, and it's been exposed by several individuals and organizations. Even the breast cancer advocacy group, the Susan G. Komen Foundation, cut off their annual grant to Planned Parenthood because Planned Parenthood doesn't provide mammograms. Nancy Brinker, founder and then CEO of Komen said, "Wherever possible, we want to grant to the provider that is actually providing the lifesaving mammogram." Three days later the Foundation was bullied into reversing its decision by Planned Parenthood and its supporters. Nancy Brinker, who founded Komen in honor of her sister who died of breast cancer, stepped down from her position. Komen has never recovered from the controversy. Planned Parenthood sent a very strong message: Don't mess with us, or we will take you down. Even if you are a breast cancer charity giving us money for mammograms we don't ever perform.

Planned Parenthood has used the media and its "useful idiots" well. It has used pro-choice women to spread its lies because they won't be questioned. My question is: if they will lie about mamograms repeatedly to every media outlet imaginable, why should we believe anything else they say?

We shouldn't. I'll be writing a lot more about Planned Parenthood here. If you are pro-life and haven't seen the videos being released by the Center for Medical Progress, I urge you. If you are pro-choice, I dare you.

So they lie about women's health care. They laugh about sending the heads of decapitated babies through the mail and eat salad and drink wine while talking about how to adjust an abortion procedure on a "17-weeker" to get the best organs to sell. (Is it in a woman's best interest to adjust the procedure? Will it help preserve her future fertility, or put it at risk? Do the abortionists give a damn? Do they adjust the abortion procedure for the sake of "women's healthcare?")

You may have noticed a mantra of sorts throughout this article: Planned Parenthood doesn't provide mammograms. Every time you hear someone say they do, it's a lie. If you're pro-life, please begin to shout it from the rooftops. If anyone says it, simply say, "Planned Parenthood doesn't provide mammograms." That's it. You don't have to argue it. Just keep repeating it, because it's the truth.

If you hear it on T.V., post on the show's website or Facebook page that Planned Parenthood doesn't provide mammograms. Then tweet it.

If you're pro-choice, please do this: Realize that this organization has lied to you. It's lied to millions of women, media, senators, members of congress and more. They are liars. Do you care? Does it bother you that they lie and count on you to perpetuate that lie, gambling on the fact that you don't know it's not true? Is it a problem for you that they will lie about this to get at your tax dollars?

If you are Planned Parenthood fans, those who I wish, in the words of Joy Behar, "...would just get this through their heads," this is for you:

Dayton Considers Executive Order to Unionize Children

Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton is considering issuing an Executive Order to create a union for all of Minnesota's children.

Citing concern that children have an under-represented voice in the labor force, Dayton has promised that unionizing Minnesota's children will give them the protection they need as they navigate the difficult journey of growing up to become taxpayers.

Pro-union groups have described their perceived advantages to unionizing children. "Children need a voice, and the union will be that voice. They are often given low wages for work, forced to wear clothing they don't like, eat food they don't like, and they are disciplined without representation. They need protection against these egregious examples of how children are taken advantage of in our society," said an unidentified union representative.

"Our goal is that through the unionization of Minnesota children, they will now receive minimum wage for their chores and work done for neighbors and friends. They will no longer be at the mercy of the dictator parent who has the last word. They will have representation in all disputes. They will go unprotected no longer."

Dayton administration insiders say the unionization will be good for the economy. "Children already hold a large chunk of the disposable income in America. Paying them higher wages will only put more disposable income into their hands, allowing them to stimulate the economy by spending that money at malls and movie theaters."

When asked if the children's wages would be taxed, an administration official answered, "Only if they're rich."

A Republican insider disagreed with the plan, saying, "One of the big reasons they're doing this is to change the unemployment numbers. A kid gets a job mowing lawns--one job created. A teenager babysits for several families--each babysitting event would be counted as a new job created. This is ridiculous."

When asked if this action would even be legal, since minor children are unable to enter into contracts under current law, Dayton just stared blankly into space.

Three Small Words: Remembering September 11

I posted this article a year ago, on the ninth anniversary of the September 11 attacks. I have rewritten it to reflect what is going on today. Please read my updated article for this special year.

Ten years ago, I wrote this letter to the editor, which was published in the Eden Prairie News shortly after September 11, 2001:

On September 11, among the many lessons to be learned, I learned that three small words can be used to convey something fearful and despondent, while at the same time convey a message of reassurance and hope .

When my nine-year-old son came home from school that afternoon, he didn't seem to know much about what had happened. I sat him down and explained to him the terrible events of the day. He looked at me, his round blue eyes searching mine for reassurance. "Will we have a war, Mama?" he asked. "Yes, we will," I said, wanting to bite back my words, but at the same time knowing I was doing the right thing. I had to be honest with my son. Thanks to the evil of terrorism, my answer was true.

Later, my 13-year-old daughter quickly began to understand the gravity of the situation. In typical teenage fashion, avoiding my eyes and trying not to sound too serious, she asked, "Will America make it through this, Mom?"

I told her about the deprivation of the Great Depression, the civil war that pitted brother against brother, and two world wars that tested the strength of every American. "Yes, we will," I answered. I had to be honest with my daughter. Thanks to the indelible American spirit, my answer was true.

Three small words. "Yes, we will." They can mean so many things. That day they meant a promise of war and the promise of victory. Other days, they mean something else.

Life does go on, as it has, since September 11, 2001. We started wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, where our troops remain today. We've elected a president who has barely spoken of keeping us safe.

Worse, we've witnessed another terrorist attack in America: the shootings at Fort Hood.

Our president and most presidential candidates talk about jobs and our economy. Many Americans want our government to give them more, more, more money, programs; you know, free stuff. There is little discussion about how those things won't matter at all if we are the victims of another massive attack by our enemy, which still exists as brutally as it did 10 years ago. Which wants us, and our way of life, gone, dead, buried.

But we also wonder who will be on this season of Dancing With the Stars. We've become obsessed with vampires. Big news equals Jennifer Lopez and Mark Anthony's divorce and Kim Kardashian's wedding.

We've forgotten.

Before you say, "Oh no we haven't," I say to you, "Look around. The unity we found that day is lost. We are a country divided. We have stood on opposite sides arguing about whether a Mosque should be built near the Ground Zero site. Do you think this argument would have even found a voice on September 12, 2001?"

Then there are things like this:

NEW YORK, Sept. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ – The human rights organization American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) will be hosting its second annual 9/11 Freedom Rally on September 11 at 3pm at Park Place and West Broadway.

While clergy, 9/11 first responders, and 9/11 family members are barred and/or not invited to the official ceremonies, all are welcome at the 9/11 Freedom Rally. And while White House guidelines forbid official 9/11 ceremonies from mentioning who attacked the U.S. on that day or why, the 9/11 Freedom Rally features more honest speakers.

I don't know how any thinking, compassionate American cannot feel ill after reading the paragraph above. People jumped out of those buildings rather than be burned to death. Firefighters rushed into the buildings to save others while knowing they would lose their own lives. Women lost their husbands, men lost their wives, children lost their mothers, and some lost their fathers before they were even born.

And whether we like to admit it or not, the atrocities of that day were carried out by Muslim extremists in the name of Allah. Even if the current regime in charge of the White House doesn't want to admit it, it's still the truth.

Do you remember? Do you remember the photos on the front pages of your newspapers of people, your fellow Americans, on American soil, covered in ashes to the point of being unrecognizable as they stumbled through the streets of New York desperate for safety, shelter, a sip of water, a breath of air? In America? Our America?

I remember that night here in suburban Minneapolis. The sky was clear and dark and salted with a few stars. My neighbor and I were standing in her backyard talking when a military helicopter roared over her house. We knew the skies had been shut down and cleared of all traffic. The helicopter was flying low, and even though it was one of ours--there to keep us safe--for a moment we were terrified. We stopped talking and just sort of hung there in frozen time, as if our hearts had stopped from fear and needed to be jump started before we asked, "What the hell was that?"

Earlier that evening my church held a special service. I'll never forget the image of my daughter, dressed in black, hugging a fellow Sunday School friend as they sat on the steps outside. They stayed in each other's arms for a long time, her head resting on his shoulder. Then they held hands, as if not wanting to let go of one another for fear of losing the other before our next church service. I watched from the top of the steps with tears rolling freely down my face as I realized my children's generation had just become a generation at war. They had become a generation in which the sanctity of the American bubble that had always protected them was shattered by airplanes filled with hate and bound for death. They changed that day--the children. Forever.

That night my children slept in bed with me. Their father couldn't sleep and stayed up all night. My daughter held my hand as she slept, something she hadn't done since she was very small. When she was little, she always wanted to hold my hand as she slept if she was scared. I lay awake and heard another plane fly over the house. I gripped my sleeping child's hand a little tighter.

As I write this on the eve of the tenth anniversary of this terrorist attack on America, I am saddened by how far apart we've come. The weight of this horrible atrocity seems to have slipped from our shoulders, and we've become the frivolous, politically-correct society we were before this ever happened.

Of course we can't be a society hobbled by the hatred lurking in the shadows waiting for an opportunity to kill us. We must move on. But all I ask is that for tomorrow, please take a moment to remember. Really remember. Wherever you were in America, it hit you. It touched you.

It changed you.

Before this, you were safe. You are safe no more. You know it. You accept it. You scoff at it when you have to board a plane. It inconveniences you, but it does not effect you, not anymore.

I'm asking you, if only for one day, to let it effect you. Let in the fear of knowing you are never safe. Let in the knowledge that there are people on earth who hate you and what you stand for so much that they will kill you and your babies in the name of their cause without blinking an eye.

I understand the pull toward political correctness that is threaded through our country. But without a healthy dose of fear, wariness and protectiveness, I believe that pull will become so strong we'll all be taken along for the ride whether we like it or not, consequences be damned.

So, will you say three small words for me? If I ask you, "Will you remember?" will you answer,

"Yes, we will."

Obama turning tonight's speech into a campaign fundraiser before he utters one word

I just received the following e-mail from Barack Obama's campaign. It speaks for itself, really, but I felt the need to point out a few things.

First of all, what a classless, ham-handed thing to do: turning what should be a very sober address to the American people into a campaign fundraiser. I wish this president had a modicum of the respect Reagan had for the office he holds.

Here's the e-mail:

Loretta (they think my name is Loretta) --

I'm about to head to the Capitol to ask Congress to act on my plan to put Americans back to work.

Before I do, I wanted to write you directly to remind you that the fight to create jobs -- and provide the kind of economic security for middle-class families that's been slipping away over the last decade -- won't begin or end with the speech I give tonight.

What happens will be up to you. In the coming days and weeks, it will be up to you to pressure Congress to act -- or hold them accountable if they do not.

If you're with me, let me know. And the campaign will make sure you are looped into our efforts to support this plan.

I didn't add the two links included in the e-mail that direct you to pages where you can donate to Obama's re-election campaign. But they were in the original e-mail.

I am really surprised to find out that I'm on a first-name basis with the President of the United States. But maybe it's fitting to address him by his first name because, in my opinion, he doesn't deserve the above-mentioned title.

I wonder if he'll tell the American people to "pressure" Congress, or is that kind of talk reserved for those of us lucky enough to be e-mail buddies with him? I also wonder if he'll mention that in order to be kept in the "loop" about his job creation ideas, you must first donate to his campaign?

So, it will be interesting to watch Barack's speech tonight. Do you think they'll have a crawl at the bottom of the screen directing you to places to make campaign donations? Or maybe he'll just ask for money at the end of his speech.

Even if he doesn't go that far, I think this incredibly tacky e-mail crossed the line between his being President Obama and Candidate "Barack."

Viable Jobs Idea From Bachmann--Outdoes Anything Obama's Proposed

I found this article today that briefly outlines one of presidential candidate Michele Bachmann's job creation plans.

I'd love to hear more about this, as it's the most substantial plan I've seen lately. I'm interested to hear Obama's wait-until-I'm-done-with-my-vacation jobs plan, which he will announce on television. Obama's job's speech was originally scheduled to be a blatant slap in the face of Republicans, whose debate would have been running against it, until he changed the time of the speech to run the following night prior to the Saints vs. Packers football game.

Is that Republicans 1; Obama Administration 0, because the President of the United States moved his speech so it wouldn't coincide with the Republican debate at Speaker John Boehner's "request?" Or Republicans 0; Obama Administration 1, because he may pick up a lot of football fans to listen to his speech by having moved it to the pre-game slot (with the possibility of delivering the money shot after having "accidentally" run a few minutes over time)? Something to think about...

I digress.

I am not an official supporter of Michele Bachmann for president. I haven't put my deeds or words behind any candidate yet. I need to see more--feel more. I need to make sure the candidate I support would support me and my beliefs.

But I will give credit where credit is due: Bachmann's simple job stimulus idea is the best we've heard so far, especially from this administration or from Congress. She is a business owner. That means she has miles more experience than Obama had when he became president, which is why we are in the ditch at this point.

Because a driver who has never had a license shouldn't be the one elected to drive the family car everywhere it goes. With the family in it.

Burger King kids meals!

These are photos of the "toy" that was included in my three-year-old granddaughter's kids meal a few days ago.

When you open up this plastic thingy, this is what you get:

I have a couple of problems with this. First of all, this doesn't even qualify as a "toy." It's purely an advertising tool that doesn't even break a sweat trying to be an actual toy.

Then there's the problem of extreme age inappropriateness. I know all kids who eat Burger King kids meals aren't three years old, like my granddaughter. Frankly, she's too young to even understand what this toy means though she did notice it's not really a toy.

Burger King kids meals are targeted to children ages 12 and under. Does anyone in their right mind think children in this age group should be an advertising target for this PG-13 rated movie? Yes, I know there will be the few parents who will bring their toddlers to this film. (Years ago, I sat behind a toddler whose parents thought it would be a great idea to bring her to see "Alien." She screamed that she was scared the whole time and tried to face backwards in her front row seat with her tiny, dimpled hands tightly covering her eyes, occasionally looking at me. I remember nothing about the film but this poor child.) So there are a few parents out there who will do this, but I don't think that covers even a slight fraction of a percentage point of American parents. At least I hope not.

I know fast food restaurants often give toys for children under age three if asked. These three-and-under toys contain no small parts the child might choke on. There were no small parts contained within this toy.

There was, however, a $5 coupon for any "Eclipse" merchandise I would like to buy for my child. She could be sporting sexy vampire apparel for a bargain price!

What in the world is Burger King thinking advertising to small children about a new addition to a movie franchise based on books about vampires? Young sexy ones? I don't have any hang ups about young vampire sex, except when it comes to children. Watching it. Being exposed to it. Opening their Burger King kids meals and thinking the photo inside is cool.

Gotta go. I need to look up movie times for "Eclipse." I think I might bring my granddaughter to that instead of "Winnie-the-Pooh." I'll make sure to buy her a T-shirt first. I wonder if they come in a size 3T?
