Issue :

This error displays when Google Chrome unexpectedly shuts down.

Solutions :

1) Try restarting the browser.

Whenever possible, Google Chrome will restore webpages from your previous browsing session.

2) Do you have Internet Download Manager installed?

If you have Internet Download Manager installed, update to IDM version 6.03 Beta or disable the "Advanced browser integration" option by going to Options > General.

3) Check for conflicting software.

You can check for conflicting software on Windows by typing about:conflicts in the address bar. If you have software that is known to cause Google Chrome to crash, it will be highlighted for you on this page, along with any recommended actions to resolve the conflict. In many cases, the conflicting software is malware that needs to be removed using anti-virus software.

4) Check whether you need a new browser user profile.

If you see this error message repeatedly, your browser user profile may be corrupted. First try moving the Default subfolder from your User Data folder to see if that fixes the problem:

i) Enter the keyboard shortcut Windows key + E to open Windows Explorer.
ii) In the Windows Explorer window that appears enter the following in the address bar:

Windows XP : %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\

Windows Vista/ Windows 7/ Windows 8 : %LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\

Mac OS X : ~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default

Linux : ~/.config/google-chrome/Default

iii) Click OK.
iv) In the window that opens, rename the "Default" folder as "Backup."
v) Move the "Backup" folder from the "User Data" folder up one level to the "Chrome" folder.

5) Check for problems with protected system files.

Go to Start menu > Run.
Enter the following : SFC.EXE /SCANNOW (make sure there is a space between SFC.EXE and /SCANNOW). This initiates the Microsoft utility that will scan and repair problems with protected system files on your computer.
Try opening Google Chrome and see whether the error message still appears.

To install another language and keyboard layout in Windows XP, follow these steps:

1) In the Windows XP classic Start menu, click Start, click Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2) Double-click Regional and Language Options.

3) Click the Languages tab, and then click Details under “Text Services and Input Languages”.

4) Click Add under “Installed Services”, and then click the language you want to add and the keyboard layout you want to use for that language.

5) To configure the settings for the Language bar, click Language Bar under “Preferences”.

Installing Non Western Languages on Windows XP :

1) Open Start -> Settings -> Control Panel and then open Regional and Language Options

Note: You may need to have Administrator privileges in order to do the initial install step.

Many people want to know how to shut down Windows 8. You would think that is a simple task, as in previous versions of Windows we had always had the start menu with a shut down, restart option. Now the Windows 8 shutdown problem is causing stress for the new users of this operating system.

How to Shut Down :

1) Firstly we will need to access the Charm bar which is a fancy name for a menu. You can do this by moving your mouse to the lower right corner of the screen. The menu will then slide out.

2) When the Charm bar appears click on the Settings icon. See the arrow pointing to the settings icon below.

3) When the settings appear, click on the Power icon.

4) Now you will be able to choose to either Sleep, Shut Down, Update, or Restart.

So that is how to shut down Windows 8. In this world of gadgets and technology, this is definitely not faster or easier to do than the previous versions of Windows.

A shortcut for shutting down your windows 8 :

1) Navigate to the location where you want to create the shortcut, right-click and go to New > Shortcut.

2) For location of the new shortcut, enter the following command:

3) Click Next, and name the shortcut as Shut Down (or anything you like).

Now, if you want to pin it to taskbar, right-click the new shortcut and pin it to taskbar, based on your preference. Download the files

1. The first thing you’ll need to do is download the Windows 8 installer preview from the Microsoft website.

2. After you’ve clicked “Get it now” select the option to download the preview. This will then download the files to your machine.

3. Select the “Run” option both times it pops up, and allow any changes when prompted by the download.

Get ready to install the software

The installation will then scan your machine to make sure that it’s capable of running Windows 8, and to find out whether you will require the 32 bit or 64 bit version. It will then download the files respectively, whilst this part of the installation is running you may need to make a few alterations to your computer. For example clearing space or defragging your hard drive.

Create your bootable Flash Drive or DVD

1. On the next screen it’ll ask whether you’re ready to install. Select the option to ‘Install on another partition’, continue through the options (clicking ‘Next’ when required).

2. We will assume you would rather make a bootable flash drive for the purposes of this article.
Click ‘USB flash drive’ then select ‘Next’ again and select your USB from the list.

3. Select ‘Next’ and your computer will get to making your disk. Bear in mind this bit can be a bit of a lengthy process

Make a partition

You’ll now to create that all important partition, so that you have somewhere to install windows 8 on your computer alongside your existing version. Don’t forget to back everything up just in case, since you’re reducing the amount of space your computer has available it makes good sense to ensure you’ve got everything saved out.

1. Once you’ve done this, open the Start menu and and right click ‘Computer’, click ‘Manage’ and then choose ‘Disk Management’.

2. Right click your hard drive and then choose ‘Shrink Volume’.

3. Windows 8 requires a minimum of 20GB available, so put 20,000 when prompted with ‘Enter the amount of space to shrink in MB’. Then select ‘Shrink’.

4. You’ll then see an unallocated section with 20GB available. This is going to be where you install the Windows 8 release preview.

5. Right click it, the choose ‘New Simple Volume’. Go through the options, clicking ‘Next’ until you reach ‘Volume Label’, in here type ‘Windows 8′.

6. Continue through the options, then select ‘Finish’.

This only works if you have Windows seven. In Windows vista and Windows xp there are different ways to shrink a partition on a hard drive.

Boot from your new Flash Drive

At this point you’ll need to do a restart. You need to boot from the Flash Drive you just created, to do so enter the BIOS, then find ‘Boot > Boot device priority’ and allocate higher priority to the flash drive than your hard drive. Save and exit by pressing the F10 key. At this point the Windows 8 installer should begin. Once setup has loaded click ‘Next’ until you reach ‘Install Now’.

Choose where to install it

When required key in the product code DNJXJ-7XBW8-2378T-X22TX-BKG7J. Keep clicking through the options until you’re prompted to select which type of installation you want to run. The social networking site says an "extremely sophisticated" attack may have allowed hackers to gain users' login details.
Around 250,000 Twitter users may have had their accountscompromised by computer hackers.
It said one attack was shut down moments after it was detected, adding that the passwords of users who may have been affected had been reset.

In a blog posting, Bob Lord, director of information security at Twitter, said there had been "a recent uptick in large-scale security attacks aimed at US technology and media companies", with the New York Times among those targeted.

He said: "Our investigation has indicated the attackers may have had access to limited user information - usernames, email addresses, session tokens and encrypted/salted versions of passwords - for approximately 250,000 users.
"As a precautionary security measure, we have reset passwords and revoked session tokens for these accounts."

"This attack was not the work of amateurs and we do not believe it was an isolated incident," he added. "The attackers were extremely sophisticated and we believe other companies and organisations have also been recently similarly attacked."

HIBERNATE : Speed Up your PC Startup without changing settings :

One of the things that slows down your computer when it boots is that it needs to start all of your startup programs. Your startup programs include your anti-virus and firewall security software, Windows Explorer (to display your desktop), and a bunch of other programs you’ve installed over the years.

You can speed up your computer startup process with these programs already started. That may not make sense, but it works. The trick is the HIBERNATE function of your computer.

Every program on your computer stores information about what it’s currently doing in your computer memory. HIBERNATE takes that computer memory and writes it to your hard drive. Then it shuts down the computer.

When you restart the computer, HIBERNATE copies that information from your hard drive back into memory and then restarts the programs. This tends to run much quicker than starting up your computer. In the case of my home desktop, it saves about 30 seconds, which is a big enough deal to always use HIBERNATE instead of Shutdown.

In case you haven’t noticed it before, the HIBERNATE button appears on the Shutdown menu. You may want to use a stopwatch to time how long it takes your computer to restart using Hibernate and the regular Shutdown-Reboot cycle to see which will speed up startup more.

Samsung has shown off a radical 'bending' mobile phone that could be virtually unbreakable.
The Korean electronics company provided a glimpse of such a device at a keynote speech Wednesday at the International CES gadget show in Las Vegas.
The screen is expected to find its way in to Samsung handset, although the firm said the devices shown, which ran Microsoft's phone software, were only prototypes.

OLED screens are able to flex easily, and can even be use to create radical 'curved' phone designs

HOW IT WORKS

1) The screen uses organic light-emitting diodes, or OLEDs.
2) Only a thin layer of these chemicals is needed to produce a bright, colorful screen.
3) They're used in many Samsung phones already, though with glass screens.
4) For the bendable phone, Samsung laid the chemicals over thin plastic instead of glass.

In the clash of the world's supercomputing titans, a U.S. supercomputer named "Titan" is king.

The supercomputer, a Cray XK7 system based at Tennessee's Oak Ridge National Laboratory, leaped past the former champion, the Sequoia supercomputer at California's Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

The top five supercomputers in the world are:

1)Titan Cray XK47 at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (17.59 petaflops/s)

2)Sequoia BlueGene/Q at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (16.33 petaflops/s)

3)Fujitsu's K computer at the RIKEN Advanced Institute for Computational Science in Kobe, Japan (10.51 petaflops/s)

We all know how easy it is to dump files into the wrong folder when we're in a hurry. But one way to make sure you keep your files organized is to remove the clutter with a filing system that makes sense for the way you use your computer. Here are a few tips to get you started:

#Start clean.

Begin by deciding which files you no longer need on your hard disk drive.

#Think it through.

Take the time to plan the best way to organize your files. How do you spend your time on the computer, and what do you create? Do you work with photos and image-editing software, surf the web, write short stories, research school projects, or play games? The folders you create in Documents (called “My Documents” in Windows XP) can be easily tailored to show you just the kind of data about your files that you need to track. For more tips about creating a well-organized filing system.

#Use subfolders.

After you have an idea of the kinds of items you produce and want to save, create folders and subfolders to store your files. Be sure to use logical, easy-to-understand names. For example, within Documents, you might create additional folders called Projects, HR Benefits, and Career. Then, within the Projects folder, you could create subfolders for each different project.

#Clean your files periodically.

After you have set up your file system, inspect and clean it regularly. Routine maintenance tasks, such as deleting old or duplicate files and folders and making sure that important files are in the right folders, can save you a lot of time and frustration.

2. Clean up your hard disk

Now that you've organized your files and folders and cleaned up your desktop, you can organize the data itself. Windows includes two utilities—Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter—that help you free up more space on your hard drive and help your computer work more efficiently.

Disk Cleanup compresses your old files to free up storage space.
Disk Defragmenter scans your hard drive and consolidates files that may be scattered across the disk.
It's up to you to decide how often to run these utilities, but it's a good idea to do so at least once a month. Windows Vista users take note: Disk Defragmenter is automatically scheduled to run once a week (Sunday at 4 A.M.). You can change the scheduled time for this feature or, if you prefer, turn it off.

3. Use System Restore

System Restore is one of those programs that can be a life-saver when you've been the unfortunate recipient of unstable software, a badly timed power outage, or a damaging thunderstorm. System Restore records important documents, settings, and preferences on your computer. If the unthinkable happens and your computer files are damaged or inaccessible, you can use System Restore to restore your computer to the same state it was in before the data was lost.

System Restore creates restore points daily and whenever you install device drivers, automatic updates, and some applications. But it's a good idea to get into the habit of creating a system checkpoint (called a restore point) when you're about to install new software or take any action you suspect might make your computer unstable. Then, if there's any conflict at all, you can restore your computer to the point just before you began the installation.

Windows XP users must visit Microsoft Update to start the update process. First-time visitors might need to sign up for the service. After you've visited Microsoft Update, you should configure your computer running Windows XP to receive critical updates automatically. This free service is called Windows Update in Windows 7 and in Windows Vista, and it is called Automatic Updates in Windows XP.

5. Run antivirus software and a spyware detection and removal tool

Updating your Windows software is just the first step in keeping your computer safe. Next (if you haven’t already done so), you'll want to install antivirus software from a reputable vendor, such as Microsoft, AVG, Norton, or McAfee. As is the case with Windows, it is critical that you keep your antivirus software up to date. Free antivirus software comes preinstalled on many computers, but after the trial period expires, you’ll be exposed to new and emergent threats. Be sure to renew your subscription or to secure alternative virus protection.
