Skrillex’s OWSLA label did it big with the release of Sub Focus’s Falling Down EP featuring vocals by Kenzie May. The four track remix EP features the original production along with Sub Focus’s remix (VIP) as well as remixes by xKore and Nick Thayer. If you’ve been following Dubstep’s poster boy Skrillex around you’ve heard the VIP remix drop in his sets and smash the stages. Many fans have been wondering what track this was and now we know the man responsible for such a dirty dubstep anthem.  Originally, Falling Down was released under the RAM/Mercury label and was a free download. In this re-release we’re able to get our dose of grimey synths and wobble from xKore and a more progressive dubstep style from Nick Thayer. Not sure about all of you, but the vocals by Kenzie May is eerily similar to those of Katy Perry in ET. The sounds delivered by this production and remixes bring a combination of familiarity, loss, happiness, and sadness. Quite in-explainable and one of those times when we’ll say…just take a listen.

Happy Thursday everybody, one more day till we can all happily fall into our weekend state. Today I decided to bring back a little bit of Kaskade love. I was churning through some old tracks and I came cross this little gem. When Ryan Raddon (a.k.a Kasakde) was trying to spread House music out of San Fransisco in the early 2000′s, he produced It’s You It’s Me. This track was his break through, it put House music on the map for just a second, but it planted the seed. The track itself is mellow, featuring some nice guitar synth’s and beautiful vocals. Listen to this on your way to work or class tomorrow, and it’ll be Friday night before you know it.

Well. At some point it was guaranteed to happen: a big name DJ was going to get remixing duties on a Justin Bieber single. When I first saw it was the Dada boys doing the job, my first reaction: excitement. Wow, I thought to myself, those crazy Dada guys have a chance to do a huge remix for the most widely adored (by pre-pubescent girls) pop-star on the planet, who’s sound is so sweet it will give you tooth ache, and in turn achieve some pretty big things!

Everything associated with Justin Bieber racks up millions of views in days. He just recently broke another VEVO record with his latest video for Boyfriend (register & login to view link). What better opportunity to hit tens of millions of Bieber fans world-wide with a raging, searing electro cut from Dada Life, that would melt all their faces, and be an absolute coup in the music world, because Olle Corneer and Stefan Engblom would have stuck two fingers up at all the record labels and just done their own thing. It would be worth it, because they’d be legends in our eyes, and in the eyes of the EDM community. Would it be like Happy Violence? Synth-y and tough as nails? Or would it be more sweeping, edgy and energetic, like their Big Bad Wolf remix? The possibilities were endless.

But no, it was not to be. Instead, what we got, was a progressive-house track that sounds like something by Alesso, or maybe Fedde Le Grand (Paradise remix, anyone?), or maybe even just someone with Ableton, Sylenth and a keyboard in their bedroom. I was so disappointed, because instead of doing it in their style, they’ve conformed to the most bland end-product imaginable, catering to the lowest-common denominator possible. A real shame indeed.

So, to comiserate this moment, here are my top 5 Dada cuts:

Julian Jordan, the Dutch prodigy, is back! The 16 year old has partnered with T.V. Noise to produce another hit track. In my opinion, it is not as good as his break through single, Rock Steady, but it still hits heavy. It has the similar synth heavy progression leading to a bass drop that is very Hardwell-like.
