My mother and sister had worked with the young lady this story refers to, and a bredrin of mine's older brother is friends with the guy. When news reached my mother's office it was heartbreaking, I can only imagine what heir families are going through, my heart ached when I heard. There isn't much more I can say on this, except my mother called he police station to verify the news and they told her that their throats weren't just slashed but they were shot over 30 times ( total between them both). So here's the gleaner article word for word. (my Sister showed me a picture of the couple from her Facebook, here it is. May they rest in peace)

" A young couple who were merely playing the role of good Samaritans never lived to tell the tale of the good deed they were in the process of doing as they were kidnapped, murdered and their bodies dumped in the bushes of Mount Salus, Red Hills, in St. Andrew.

"The throats were slashed," said Assistant Commissioner of Police, Les Green, head of the Major Investigation Task Force (MIT).

Reports are that Jhanel Whyte and Tyawo McKenzie had gone to a community off Red Hills Road, on Wednesday, to look for and compensate a motorcyclist and his pillion rider, with whom they had a motor vehicle accident on Tuesday. However, they never returned home.

Further reports are that the accident occurred in the Havendale area. The motorcyclist and his pillion rider were taken by the young couple to the University Hospital of the West Indies, where they were treated and released.

Arrangements were made and the following day, the couple went to look for the men. When they did not return home, an alarm was made and the police alerted. The

Gleaner has since learnt that the killer(s) had been asking for a ransom, it is not sure if they got the sum that they asked for.

According to the police, at least one man has been detained since the couple went missing. The man is related to a popular and influential Jamaican entertainer.

Mr. McKenzie reportedly made a call to a family member up to Thursday, asking for a loan. The police have also confirmed that an ATM card belonging to one of the victims, was used to make several withdrawals from a savings account.

Speaking with The Gleaner yesterday, ACP Green said the bodies which fit the profile of the missing couple, were discovered by a farmer yesterday morning in a bushy crack, on top of Mount Salus.

Mr. Green believes the bodies could have been there for at least 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the murder rate has rushed past the 300 mark in the last 70 days.

Statistics from the police reveal that more than 1,200 persons have died violently since the start of the year.

A tough-talking National Security Minister, Derrick Smith on Wednesday said the Government was moving to resume hanging.

He has asked for details regarding the number of men on death row and information on the status of their appeals.

Checks with Commissioner of Corrections, Major Richard Reese yesterday revealed that there are eight condemned prisoners.

Major Reese told The Gleaner that "everything is in order" to carry out the death penalty if authorised and commanded by the lawfully constituted authority.

Major Reese said the legal instrument is a warrant which states the time and place of execution.

If you guessed 2, then your our winner! Unless your living outside Jamaica/under a rock or your one of my friends ( I swear my friends are all incapable of caring about current affairs, or just illeterate *shrugg*) you know about the Cuban Light Bulb Scandal currently unfolding in the media/parliament. Said scandal is centered around the donation of sum 4 million fluorescent (i think) light bulbs donated by the Cuban government as a gift to aid with our energy conservation attempts. The cuban government also sent paid volunteers to aid with distributing the light bubls. The light bulbs were received ( I have more than one friend who had their bulbs changed free of cost).
So what is the problem exactly then, freenesss a run right? Wrong, our dear sweet government ministers (at the time ) Phillip Paulwell and Kern Spencer*Mr. Spencer seen in picture above teary eyed during parliament when faced with accusations* managed to somehow pay close to $300 million for the distribution of these lightbulbs. Now we can expect some distribution costs but remember some of the volunteers were supplied by Cuba. Among the costs incurred in this distribution is some $40 million paid as a stipend to volunteers, Volunteers the Cuban government says THEY paid their own stipend to. The evidence is being reviewed and Spencer and Paulwell submitted reports to Opposition leader Portia Simpson-Miller and all will come to light soon. I don't know who's guilty here but something stinks, and someone needs to pay. The government says the fraud squad has been notified and rightly so, funny enough this is a white collar crime with maybe an 18 month sentence a slap on the wrist. But hey that's a whole nother debate right there and I personally am not for stiffer white collar crime penalties,(theres a difference between swiping company funds and robbing perhaps a mother of three at gun point) though this one does tempt me. When current Energy Minister Clive Mullings brought forth fresh information in parliament yesterday and made the announcement the fraud squad had been notified an emotional Spencer was seen fighting back tears, he says he was upset at having an opportunity to defend himself. I almost feel sorry for him though, its common knowledge Paulwell is always engrossed in shady business, as his junior minister I think Kern got caught up in Paulwell's mess. We'll see

Last night was Michael Bolton's One Night Only performance at the National Indoor arena, brought to you by Turn Key Productions and CVM television. Bolton had performed previously at Jazz and Blues festival, his amazing reception lead to him being brought back for the One Night Only. encore of sorts. I consider myself a lover most genres, and I'm a big fan of real music. When I say real music I mean music of some substance, I consider music in two categories, music made to listen to and music made just for us to hear. The average dancehall song is just for hearing, the kind of music I play when friends are over, or party to with a heavy dose of Appleton, though many are worth actually listening to and not just so called culture tunes, Busy signal for example has alot of music of actual quality. Anyway I Michael Bolton counts undoubtedly as "real" music, thus I was happy he came, several birthdays( $$$$$) and alot plans this week($$) left me short on time and cash. I hear the show was great though, Bolton was on point and amazing, better I'm told that Brian McKnight who was hear just recently. Also noteworthy were Cherine Anderson and Christopher Martin. I'm not a fan of Martin, I think it's an internal bias against Rising Stars plus the fact that his original music isn't that good. Cherine however is remarkably talented and a beacons of hope for the preservation of real music and classic reggae.

So I was deeply disturbed when i heard Macka Diamond had written a Novel, more so when I heard it was named Bun Him. Anyway I ignored said book til i noticed write ups about it in Major Newspapers, and how it was selling well etc then i noticed it in Sangster's, and started to wonder if I was wrong, and maybe guilty of intellectual snobbery. I went and read, or tried to read the first chapter online. I got no further than the first page. It was poorly written, mindless filth. I enjoy Macka's music, but thats where she should stay she doesn't have the capacity to write anything of value and should not try...

She was supposedly spotted kissing Josh recently, Shia rumors aren't substantiated and close friends of Chris Brown admit hes madly in love with her, going as far as to get a similar tattoo. What did Rihanna do in return to show her love you ask? Beenie Man as of friday gone was wanted for Tax Evasion to the tune of sume 29 Million dollars. These legal troubles are on top of those he already faces versus estranged wife D'Angel and a lawsuit by the Anglican Church for shooting a video on St. Andrew Parish Church grounds without permission. Beenie had apparead at the Sutton Street Tax Court and told Magistrate Owen Parkins that he was unaware that his taxes were not being paid, and that his manager Patrick Roberts was responsible for paying his taxes. Beenie was then set to return to court on October 23 ......a date which he missed leading to a subsequent warrant for his arrest...Dyam eediat, now here this, Fridays Star have big big headline that Beenie is set to surrender himself to the court.....when him return to the island. Now you tell me him owe the goverment TRAFIGURA MONEY worth of tax and him have the audacity to fly out?. Lock up him rass. Wait till D'Angel hears that he was shooting a Music Video with Barbee for the song PaddyCake in NYC and thats why he couldn't make it. Friggin Ridiculous don't? Beenie's defence in all this is that his former management team at Shocking Vibes is to blame, come on man he should have been sensible enough to make sure his taxes were paid. This I'm afraid when an entire industry of artistes aren't exactly the brightest bulbs in the box. I hope the other dj's have their taxes straight.

Brick and Lace has been on....and off the Jamaican music scene for some time now. They first arrived as a trio, 3 sexy sisters singing upbeat, sultry dancehall inspired poppish music, along the lines of Tami's music. They had a slew of really nice tracks from Done it to me, to Bad Boy with Bounty Killer and several others. Then they fell off the radar, only to re-emerge featured on Obie Trice's track Jamaican Girl, as a duo...with eldest sister Tasha no longer a member, some say because she is now a mother and focusing on family life. The now duo(Nailah & Nyanda)then moved on to release their own single Never Never, the video was good but seemed to pick up little traction and the two seemed also to be getting little if any promotion at all...what are Geffen and akon doing??. These two have the best chance of international success as genuine Jamaican female artistes, next to the Chynn/Chin sisters of course. They are pretty, talented and really their music is pretty good, better than alot of pop shit that gets play time in the States. Their first single however went pretty much nowhere and now a re-do of Love is Wicked , a song i personally love , minus the missing sisters vocals is making the rounds, Its has a video shot locally and i think it's noteworthy, but i suspect it will fall prey to poor management just as before. Anyway their album hasn't dropped yet and I'm hoping they can gain traction by the time it does.....we'll see

Sean Paul has released his new single Watch dem Roll. When i say released I mean to the eva late US market, as we have been hearing the song for weeks. How many of his songs do we hear months before they get recycled for the Americans? Anyway I really like the song and it's produced by Stephen McGreggor who right now is the riddim king in my humble opinion anyway. The video is simple but nice, i hate however that the instead of the "gyal dem rollin" and wining Jamaican style, they do some mostly american and sometimes strange dances. Local media has it that Renato Decardova Valentino Adams (best name ever i swear), has applied for the position of Police Commissioner once Lucius Thomas has officially resigned from said post. Tonight's news had the number of applicants for the job at 14, possibly not including Rear Admiral Hadley Lewin, former head of the JDF. I personally think that though he is controversial, Adams would do an excellent and wonderfully extreme, job of keeping the ever worsening crime rate in check. Adam's is known best possibly for use of extreme force , and that's exactly why I like him. We need to get tough on crime, and i make no bones about how little I care about the death of unscrupulous persons. To quote Mr. Adams himself "These people want us to go after criminals on bended knee while they fire on us, and then receive a posthumous award - because we behaved in a very tolerant way. I don't think like that." I also think Lewin is a great choice as well and can bring some much needed discipline to the force.

Timberlee, (full name Timberlee Heaven...cute eee?) took Jamaica by storm with her track Bubble Like Soup, ft. Ward 21,. The song played all summer long and it's hard to find a detractor with anything worthwhile to say about her, she was new and refreshingly good. The closest reference in a female artiste I can think of is Lady Saw espicially in her more hardcore lyrics ,but that doesn't quite put a finger on it, Timberlee is different, perhaps it's the "UPT" in her, she admittedly comes from higher society. But now that the Soup has simmered down, she's keeping busy, her new song is titled No Stress and is on the Gyal dem sittn' riddim by Ward 21, she and other prominent female artists are featured on the riddim including D'Angel, and Cecile. The track is light hearted and fun, starting off with "Time to criticize these bitches" in a really cute tone..I don't think it can find a place in my heart like Bubble did (probably because of that Dora video dat kill all of we wid laff) but, the song is quite good and Timberlee is def not a 1 hit wonder. (and did I mention the scary voice is bak I luv it) . Check her myspace here

So you have to be pretty dead or disconected to not have heard a little something about this "sex tape" thats been going around the internet involving Rising Stars contestant Kyino Cunningham. The tape which has making the rounds on various video hosting sites like youtube, comes with two clips, both depicted Kyino bathing with another man( well im just assuming seh is him, cause honestly I dont watch the show, few local tv shows are good enough to strike my interest and well Rising Stars isn't one of them, but a friend who does watch says swears its him) . So anyway the video shows kyino bathing with another man in one clip where he tries to keep his face off camera and another where hes bathing by himself while the other man is drying off, all the while the cameraman is taunting...."yuh dont trust me Kyino? eehhh Kyino?", Kyino doesn't apparently trust him and with due cause, I mean the video is out isn't it? So according to the star Kyino is unavailable for comment as he's off the island, where for his sake I hope he stays cause bwoi him goose cook if he comes home. It's sad the preoccupation we and the world at large have with other peoples personal lives, we just dragging ourselves into the filth. So Kingston Restaurant Week 2k7 is coming soon, one week in which we food experts and bellyaz alike get to sample the finest cuisine the capital has to offer, for a fraction of the price. A wide variety of Restaurants are available for flat rates in 3 price categories, check it out. Sure its a few weeks away but restaurants are taking reservations now and many of the hottest one's are already full. My mum barely managed 2 secure a reservation at Mac's , so if your interested get cracking will ya? ...Or you could just come over my yard and I can give you some delicious what leff...you know, in case Mac's is booked ;)

so i got all excited to do a post for blog action day, registered my blog and everything, but then i forgot to actually make a frigging post. :( Blog action day supports a cause every year , bloggers register and agree to make one post based on the topic, this year its the environment, so i was SUPPOSED to make a post about, well the environment. I was swamped with schoolwork and forgot, heres a link to the site, Blog Action Day. Hopefully I can do a makeup post, for some reason i feel quite guilty lol. Gwen Stefani loves Jamaica, her son is named Kingston i mean what else do you need to know? She has collaborated with Bounty Killer and Lady Saw and vacations here regularly. Her latest venture into our little musical genre called Reggae sees her collaborating with one of the songs of the great Bob, Damion Jr. Gong Marley. The video is posted above and you've likely played it before you read this or at least seen it before. The video looks like it was shot with special effects but the backgrounds are real, did u notice Weekenz? Good job Gwen :)

Gang War, Drugs, Money & Politicians

Recently two documentaries have been circulating via email, i.m. or simple word of mouth. Hosted via youtube these documentaries shot entirely in JA make disturbing "revelations" about Jamaica and our current state of violence. I say "revelations" because these video's say nothing we didnt know or at least didn't suspect, seriously unless ur living in a cave you knew dat all of dis was happening. What is really disturbing in these video's is the detail and exactly how much these documentaries were able to get on film, they interview gang members, leaders of government and laymen, you see the gangs guns, gunshot wounds and the insides of some garrisons so desperate and poor that I honestly wondered if I was watching a documentary on the Sudan or some sub-saharan region. Anyway feel free to watch part 1 of the first video( a BBC documentary) here in the post and the first half of the other documentary after the jump. Also please pass it on, we need 2 be aware of what's happening in our country, and try to change it, we need 2 enforce our laws and do somehting about corrupt cops, and most importantly corrupt politicians. They keep their constituents in poverty to create a cycle of violence and re-election.
