Review- Super Robot Chogokin Robot Dekaranger
Robo/Delta Squad Megazord

In this review I will be talking about the features and other notables of this Super Robot Chogokin Dekaranger Robo or Delta Squad Megazord. However, I'm not familiar with Dekaranger so I will do the review SPD style. One of the more current Sentai series. Special Police Dekaranger or as i know it to be. Space Patrol Delta.

I remember watching SPD every morning at 8 am before going to work. When I woke up. Back in 2004. It was a good series. One of the most noted yet funny episodes was Perspective. The comedy was every one of the five rangers explained this one event unfolding in their own point of view. To the point the learder of SPD Commander Kruger says "It is quite clear things will never be quite clear. Its all a matter of perspective."

SPD are rangers with sort of a law enforcement style to it. Judgement. And verdicts. Who's guilry or innocent.. And arrests. SPD is not without a Megazord like other sentais before it. In the first couple episodes, the team leader, SPD red. Jack Landor, In his Pat Striker along with the rest of the team attempt to for the Delta Squad megazord for the first time which took a bit of skill. The operations of the Delta Squad Megazord like the Sentai robots before it require all five members working as a team. Each one handles a certain function of the megazord. Lets get to the figure.

I ordered this figure online at Hobby Search. After seeing it in a department store in Tokyo on my recent trip and reviews on the net. I knew I wanted one. It came within about two weeks after ordering it from Hobby Search. Its timely arrival. Not a very large shipping box with the shipping label on it with the Hobby Search logo on. After carefully cutting the tape and opening the box And getting through some packing paper. Within it was the box of the figure and another box with a bonus item in it. It looked like effect parts. I will get into that later on. But first-

Package- Bandai has always had a reputation for making even the boxes of their figures very catching to the eyes. The box of the figure wasnt very big. Its about the size or a bit thicker and taller than the regular SH Figurearts or Figma boxes. I saw no damage on the corners it was clean.

The front of the box, I have to say is nicely done. I have to say, good visual effects. The background is an explosion with big lettering to the side in silver saying Judgement. To its right, is the actual figure itself. On the lower left corner it bears the Dekaranger logo. The right corner bears the Tamashi and Bandai logos. I have to admit Bandai did a good job with this. Even to the slighest details. Including the logos.

The back of the box shows off a bit of the figure in action. And briefly what the figure can do and it features. It shows as an added feature parts for a previously released figure the Gokaioh and the parts the can be used with it. Lets dive in.

Carefully removing the contents from the box. Everything is actually packed in a clear tray insert with a lid over it to keep the pieces from moving around. Each piece has a place even the small pieces to use with the Gokaioh. It shows Bandai paid close attention to packing the figure. And took extra care in handling theiir products.

Accessories- Even robot chogokin figures are not without accessories. Like weapons or extra hands.

After carefully taking opeining the lid I poured everything out. What you get are two judgement swords. one is the hilt and the full sword.. The signal cannon extra pair of hands. Nine sets of hands all together. Even hand cuffs. Defenitely police. It would make sense because the Deka in Deka ranger means cop in japanese.

I had to show these pieces separately. Since its for the Gokaiger series. I can say its a bonus item added into the set. The car is the Pat Striker which I think was a nice touch to add that on. And there are some blaster parts I will go over how it is used later on.

The Figure- The main feature. Okay asthetically this figure is really nicely done. The detail on this thing is just great. Its in proportions to the show and has a bit of realism to it. Not a single detail is missed on each part. It stands about 7 inches tall. Lets break it down individually.

Each of the units are called delta runners. Here's the break down-

1. Pat Striker- This forms the main body and controls all the main functions of the Delta Squad Megazord. I have seen this six wheeled vehicle use the Judgement sword on one side attacking the enemy.

2. Pat Gyro- Is the left leg of the Delta Squad Megazord. With in it houses the Gyro Wrapper hand cuffs under the gyro fan engines. In the show the Pat Gyro shoots from its twin gatting guns on either wing.

3. Pat Trailer- A long semi 18 wheeler. This forms the right leg of the Delta Squad Mega Zord. In the trailer it houses part of the judgement sword. and can be armed with the Signal Cannon. I have seen a few episodes where the Pat Trailer uses the signal cannon to battle the enemy.

4. Pat Armor- A hovering armored decoy vehicle. This forms the right arm of the Delta Squad Megazord. On top it houses the hilt of the Judgement sword which are also used as search lights. Its more a defensive delta runner.

5. Pat Signal- Is more a support delta runner. Its used for public crowd control. Evacuation in emergencies or handling traffic with its big sign board on top. This forms the left arm of the Delta Squad Megazord.

Front view of the figure. The patrol lights on the top of the Pat Striker, Pat Gyro, and Pat Trailer are visible. The detailing of the drivers cab of the Pat Trailer and the cockpit of the Pat Gyro are molded in good detail including the front wheels on the Pat Trailer. The face of the Delta Squad Megazord each contour. Including the lights on the head. All in a transparent red. The detail on the cockpit on the Pat Striker is shown well in separate black windows. Bandai paid close attention to the detalis on this figure. Even the 4 and the 5 show on the arms. And the SPD logo is prominently shown on each part of the Megazord.

The back view of the figure is mostly blue for the Pat Gyro. Very small amounts of black on the top half of the leg. The same with the Pat Trailer its mostly green the back wheels are visible and a small amount of black on the top half of the leg. Just above the knees on the Pat Striker connecting the legs and above it is all red. Above it on the back is all white. With the SPD lettering in black on the rear foil. The back of the head the clear red lights go down half way. Still it looks really nice. And the arms show the 4 and the 5 on.

Features- Like every chogokin the same goes for this megazord figure. So what can this figure do? Each joint extends outward along the arms. The knees . The torso. The feet to give better range of motion on the figure.

Okay one of the functions of the megazord is on its right arm. The hilt of the Judgement sword on the right arm acts as search lights. Here i have the figure in search mode. The shoulder joints move out and forward enough to allow this range of motion. While the arm extends out to accomodate the pose.

Judgement. I thought it was pretty neat to pull off a pose like this with the figure. I even thought it was still pretty neat the sign board can flip up an can be used in Judgement mode. Which in the show it indicates Guilty or Innocent.

Thumbs down. Guilty. Deletion approved.

This was one feature i thought was neat. The Signal Cannon can be holstered in the side of the Pat Trailer. Much like how the Ingrams in the Patlabor show holster their revolvers. Or like Robocop. Bandai did a good job adding this detail. on.

Effect Parts- One of the added extra's that Bandai put into the package was effect parts. Its a new thing Bandai decided to put with the chogokin figures. The gives it more realism visually and while the figure is being displayed. I will admit its a good idea Bandai did that.

I was able to get the figure to be posed holding the SIgnal Cannon in sort of a Horatio Kaine style like on CSI. The manner in how the arms move allows this pose. The ball joints in the shoulders extend the arms out over the chest and the arms extending at the elbows give the arms the movement to be set in that position. It was once a story figures of any chogokin didnt have joints like this.

With the bonus effect parts that came separately with the figure. The fun of posing the figure goes to a whole new level. I have here the figure posed crouching on one knee. I gotta say if a chogokin robot figure can do that, it got some good joint movement. From what i've figured out seeing while handling the figure the knees are double jointed to allow the legs to move in that manner. And with the bonus effect parts, it gives it the impression its sliding back and shooting. From the force of the impact when it crouches. as it lands. In the show the actual Delta Squad Megazord is an agile machine. It will leap up. sort of flip roll and then land crouched.

With the judgement sword some really good poses can be pulled off like this one here where the megazord is charging at the enemy. I was suprised the figure was able to hold the sword in two hands in that pose. Chogokin figures don't always do that. This is pretty good.

But can a chogokin figure do this. Look like its done slicing as it passes the enemy. Still holding the sword. The bonus effect parts enhance that scene more visually. Much like its actually happening.

Everyone's been wondering what that Pat Striker included in the set is for. and what it can do. Well one of them is the front part can come apart and can be used as blasters. Simply by connecting the front of the Pat Striker to the gun grip parts provided. The figure holds the Patrol blasters pretty well. I wanted to replicate how the SPD Red Ranger uses his blasters thats why I have the figure holding them. I have the figure looking like its sliding back and shooting.

With the patrol blasters the figure can look like its showing off or looking like a cowboy shooting two revolvers.

As you can see i made the figure posed here to look like it sent out the Pat Striker. It came in the set so i wanted to make use of it Its a small car with six wheels. and much like the one on the megazord. But this one is more heavily armed. On all of the six wheels there are gattling cannons. A pretty cool add on. The car looks nice. And very well detailed. Bandai really did a good job detailing that car. It sort of reminds me of that car that docks into the soul of chogokin Daimos figure.

What police unit is not with out handcuffs. At some point even the Delta Patrol Megazord arrests the bigger criminals. To do that, it uses the Gyro Wrapper. This pair of handcuffs come from the inside the Pat Gyro. Its a pretty neat feature. Not even the Patlabor Ingrams have a pair of handcuffs. I like the feature.

Verdict- I must say its a very nice figure. Ever since I watched SPD in 2004 I became a fan of the show. This figure is well made. The touch of realism to the figure is great. Bandai didn't miss out on any of the details. And the amount of accessories it has makes it more fun to handle. And i thought it was a nice touch to add that extra Pat Striker. Bandai had to sacrifice its the figures combining ability in place of detail and joint movement. I'm not complaining. I really like the figure. I must say its the best figure of the Delta Squad Megazord made. I hope Bandai releases the Dekabike Robo. Making it transformable so the Delta Squad Megazord can ride on it. Or release a comination of the two. in megazord mode. I would also like to see Bandai release the Swat Flyer Megazord. I hope Bandai released them in the future. Would i recommend this figure? Whole heartedly yes. To Sentai fans. Dekaranger fans or Chogokin collectors. This won't wont be the last Super robot chogokin figure i'm getting I have a few more in mind. I'm getting later on.

Review: SH Figurearts Gokai Blue

Another release by Bandai. And another welcome addition to the SH Figurearts sentai figure line following the Shinkenger figurearts Shinkenger figure line. This the second gokaiger figure I own and the second SH Figurearts figure in my figurearts collection. I ordered this one on line off a japanese site. Hobby Search. I was lucky it was still in stock. I had a feeling I ordered the last one in stock. Give or take about three weeks the package arrives. Merely a box with the shipping label on it. I carefully cut the tape open. Opening the box, all i saw was a lot of packing paper. This is good. it keeps the item from moving around and keeps it from getting damaged during shipping. So after removing all that, I got to the actual thing itself. It was a box with the figure in it and the box the gokai darin was in. A bonus item that comes with every first release of the gokaiger figures. Which i will talk about later on. Lets get started-

Package-

The front of the package has a window on it. To the bottom on the right it has a cut out picture of the Gokai Blue figure. The window on the top bears the Gokaiger logo. Its good for those who want to display the figure in mint condition To the right is a border in metalic blue and it bears the lettering Gokai Blue in large fonts. Below that is the Tamashi Nations and Bandai logo.

The back of the package bears a pictture collage of some of the features showing what the figure can do. Bandai did a good job displaying the features. I have to say its well laid out. It even shows off the style of the figure. Lets dive right in-

Before getting to the figure, I had to remove a plastic tray insert. Which has a cover to keep the pieces in place. Bandai really paid attention to detail on this one. Even the small mobirates keys have a place for them.

Accessories- I got everything out of the package. After I removed the figure and and put it aside.
No sentai figure can be without accessiories. So that is also included. But this one has a lot packed in with it. Lets see Including the two hands on the figure, that makes a set of 12 hands. the Gokai Saber and Gokai gun. The Mobirates phone and the keys. A unique thing included in this set are two clusters of the Gokai Sabers. How i understand it, at one point in the series, Gokai Blue uses all 5 of the team's swords. at one time. I thought that was need to have that in there.

The Figure-

Asthethically the figure looks pretty good.. Here it is out of the box. I have to say the style of the figure looks really good. I was impressed. The blue color of the suit is a matte blue. Even the boots have the fold details on them. Bandai really paid attention to this detail. Seen from the front, The silver cuffs are just on top of the boots and on ends of the sleeves of the jacket. The jacket has a gold trim on the chest which goes up to the shoulders.The jacket is word in an open manner. The collar on the inside surface is silver. The jacket is set in an open fashion exposing the black suit under it. exposing the Gokaiger emblem on the chest. Which is in a white color. The helmet has a black visor over it and gold strip around the visor. with the gokaiger emblem on the forehead.

Seen form the back view, the boots have more of that fold detail on them. the jacket is all blue. with the gold trim on the edges. Like being seen from the front view, the belt is a gold color. Which wraps well around the figure's waist. The collar is raised a bit. Showing the outside surface which is a gold color. The helmet along the edges have a gold trim. Its visible that bandai put as much detail into this figure as much as they could to make it show accurate.

What exactly can this figure do? Lets find out. Here I have the figure standing after suiting up. I have to say the hand grips the mobirates pretty well. The detail on the mobirates is really good. almost like in the show.

No sentai can be without role call. After suiting up. Here i have the figure in the Gokai Blue role call pose. I'm amazed how well that was executed on the figure. It looks good. This is I think how I will have the figure displayed on my shelf.

Its also clear that sentai heroes tend to show off. So the joints in the arms were designed to pull that off. The ball joint in the shoulders and the double hinged elbows allow the figure to cross its arms over its chest. Thats pretty good.

It doesnt end there. Sentai heroes also come off as pointing gestures to the enemy. I have the figure in one of the gestures proping its gun on his shoulder. The hand holds the gun well. The finger goes on the trigger quite easily and the gun stays in place.

In deep thought.

Lets talk about the weapon. The gun is a standard issue pirate side arm called a flint lock pistol. Sort of like a musket that fires a lead ball propelled by a blast of gun poweder. Only this one doesnt shoot lead balls it shoots beam energy discharges. Even holding the gun sideways it works. The gun wont fall out of the hand.

When it comes to joint movement, Bandai takes a lot of effort in making sure the figures have the proper amount of articulation. The SH Figurearts line of action figures as excelled at that. It was once thought of that a figure cannot stand on one leg and do a kick. The ball joints in the hips extend outward to allow the legs spread farther. The feet being metal, allows the figure to stand on its weight, the ball joint on the feet allow it to be posed to balance on one leg. I was impressed when i saw how the figure did that so well.

That joint movement also allows the figure to stand with its feet together in a fencing stance. I must say quite well. The Gokai Saber is held quite well in the hand. The Gokai Saber is a standard type the pirates use callled a cutlass. Its large blade gives the weapon its distinct shape

Crouching on one knee. I would have to say that many action figures could never pull of a pose like this even with weapons in its hands. However the SH figurearts does that without any problems. It still looks really good.

Weapons compatibility-

A few scenes in the series show memebers of the Gokaiger team using each others weapons. Like Gokai Yellow will use Gokai Pink's sword or Gokai Green will use Gokai Blue's Gun, etc. That adds the fun into having the figures if you have two of the figures of the team members from the show doing that.

Gokai Blue is able to use Gokai Green's sword and as you can see its held pretty well in the Gokai Blue's hand. What makes it good is the added fun with the figures being able to do this.

Double shot.

It doesn't end there. Why is there a cluster of Gokai sabers in the set? Well, at one point in the series, Gokai Blue uses all the swords of each member of the team all at one time. It was quite amazing to see.

FINAL....WAVE..!!!!

Gokai Blue holds the saber clusters quite well in each hand. I thought from the size of the blades alone they would fall off. But they stayed on pretty well.

Even with the blades the figure can still pull off some neat poses.

And... even prop the sword cluster on his shoulder. Not bad.

Bonus Item-

As I mentioned this eariler in the reveiw, all first edition releases of the Gokaiger figures came with this limited edition item. A helm control. The Gokai Darin. Asthetically it looks nice. It does make a good display piece with the figure. As shown here its two parts. The chair and the controller itself. It has the appearance of a traditional galleon's helm. The wheel spins freely. and the figure can hold on to the handles around the wheel. Much like on a ship. Having this Gokai Darin is good if you are serious about collecting the whole line of Gokaiger figures. Or actual Sentai toy line. Later on it will be come a demand among collectors. And will become rare.

Verdict- I will admit its a very nicely made figure. I saw no flaws on the figure. Bandai did a good job with the figure. They didn't miss even the slightest detail. The details on the weapons were to the show accuracy. I recommend it for sentai fans or SH figurearts collectors. The figure is made for adults to collect and kids to play with.

Review: S.H. Figurearts Gokai Green

Being the 35th Sentai series to date, Aired in 2010. Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger. The series has sort of a pirate theme to it. Depending on conditions the team have access to using the power, weapons and abilities of the previous 34 sentai heroes to defeat their enemies.My first look at the early episodes of the Gokaiger series, I have seen the team Henshin (suit up) and fight. I did see a lot of showing off in the middel of the battle. But its amazing how well they can weild their weapons. With unbelievable skill. I was impressed.

For sometime Bandai has released Sochaku Henshin (Armor suit up) figures of the Kamen Rider line. As is the same with the Souchaku Henshin line's successor the S.H. Figurearts line. It being mostly Kamen Rider figures. In 2009 Bandai did something a bit different and decided to release a sentai figure. The first one to be released was from Samurai Sentai Shinkenger- Shinken Red. That was later followed by Shinken Gold. Does it end there? LIke Kamen Rider, Sentai S.H. Figurearts exclusive figures were released. High in demand but very hard to find. 2010, Bandai releases the S.H. Figurearts Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger FIgures. Four are released in normal production. Gokai Red, Gokai Blue, Gokai Green, and Gokai Silver. Currently the latest one released. My topic today is the SH Figurearts Gokai Green.

I was on my recent trip on vacation spending the holdiays in Tokyo. I was walking around looking into various stores. Mainly the hobby floors of BIC Camera in Shinjuku. and BIC Camera in Ikebukuro. I saw the Gokaiger figures in a glass case. All three of them. I thought of getting them. Luckily when i got back to Hawaii, and was at Toys n Joys to see what new stuff the store had in stock. I looked around a bit. Near the main doors of the store in a glass case was a Gokai Green figure. That began my collection of Gokaiger FIgures. I grabbed him.

PACKAGE-

First look at the package, its a box with a clear window in the front. Which shows off the figure very nicely with its accessories. To the right on the bottom is a picture cut out of the figure. There is a metallic green border on the right side of the box with the lettering Goaki Green in big letters. Below it is the Tamashi Nations and Bandai logo. Very nicely done.

The back of the box shows off the figure. a few pictures of its features and what its able to do. Bandai captured that very nicely and set it up really well too. Very catching to the consumer's

eyes. Well done on that part Bandai. Okay lets break the package open and dive right in.

Upon opening the package, the figure is in a plastic tray insert with a clear cover on it. This is to keep the pieces in place. Bandai made it an effort to properly mold places in the plastic tray for each and every single piece. Its just flawless. How the whole thing was done. Each piece fits perfectly their places. This is better than what I have seen with a souchaku henshin figure's

package. Alot better. Bandai should keep packing their figures like this in the future.

I have already removed the cover from the tray insert being careful not to cause anything to shift out of place. Carefully i removed the figure and put that aside and poured out all the pieces. I didnt think this figure would have a lot of pieces.

Accessories- What's a figure without accessories. It would seem quite boring that an action figure would be without accessories. And Bandai has included quite a bit of accessories with this figure.. A lot more than i thought. A set of 10 hands. Two fists. Two splayed open hands. Two trigger finger hands. One mobirates holding hand. One key holding hand. Two sword holding hands. The Gokai Saber. The Gokai Gun. This is going to be fun. On to the main feature...

The Figure- What can i say about this figure. When i first take it out of its plastic tray there are is a plastic sheet between the torso and the lower body where the belt is. That is to keep the belt from scratching the two body parts during transport. I had to remove that carefully.

Asthetically It is a very nice figure . Alot of detali to it. Seen from the front view, Its mostly green A very soft matte green with some black along the legs up to the chest bearing the Gokaiger emblem in the midde. Silver on the top of each boot. The jacket has silver cuffs. Gold lining the sides. Silver on the inside of the collar. The helmet is all green with a dark visor. Trimmed in gold along the edges. On the forehead shows the gokaiger emblem. Bandai even put the slightest details on this figure. Even the wrinkles on the boots are molded on.

Seen from the back view, the helmet has a gold trim on the edge. The outside of the jacket's collar is gold. with a gold trim on the bottom edge. The bottom edge of the jacket has a gold trim as well. Seen from both views the belt is gold. Seen from the back the wrinkles on the boots is also

visible.

The figure is able to hold its Mobirates phone quite easily. I wanted to replicate that scene after he suits up.

Joint Movement- The one thing SH Figurearts figures Bandai made it known for is the amount of articulation the figure has. I will not be taking the figure apart to show where the joints are. I will point them out where they are exactly.

The neck has a ball joint to give the head a good range of motion allowing the figure to look in every direction almost replicating the human head movement. The shoulders have a ball and socket joint this is also for better range of motion for the arms. And better posability in the arms. The biceps swivel. The elbows are double hinged. The wrists are on both a swivel and ball joint to give the hands better range motion. The body is on a ball joint as well as the hips. The legs are on a swivel joint. The feet are metal the weight adds stability to the figure when posed. The knees are double jointed. This is good for pose when the figure is crouching.

How well can the figure hold the weapons. I have the figure holding the Gokai Saber pretty much resting it on its shoulder. The Gokai Saber is a common design of a sword pirates use a lot called a cutlass. That ball and socket joint allows the figure to be posed with its feet toghether. (top and bottom images)

How good is the joint movement. Well take a look. It was not even considered possible that an action figure can be posed to do a kick on one leg. The ball joint in the hips allow this pose to be well executed. And it worked good while the weapons are in the figure's hands. Thats pretty good for Bandai's quality.

Showing off is another thing. The trigger finger allows the figure to look like its spinning the Gokai gun around its finger. I thought that was neat.

The Gokai gun is held pretty well in the hand. The gun is a common type used by pirates called a flintlock pistol. Much like a musket which shoots a lead ball. Except this one does not shoot lead balls it shoots beam energy .

As I had mentioned earlier, the figure is able to crouch quite well. And the ball joint in the hips make that possible. Right now I dont know how much more super-posable a figure can be. This is pretty good.

And the best feature of any figure. Well i like to call it that. but another thing that was not considered possible with any action figure. The ball joints in the shoulders and wrists make it possible for the figure to pose with its arms crossed. Now this is good. It wont be possible if it didnt have all those joints in it.

Bonus Material- Okay on a limited release, the first run production Gokaiger figures will come with this bonus package. The Gokai Darin. Its simply put, a helm control of a ship. Much like the ones used on pirate ships to steer the vessel. My figure came with this bonus pack. But it was in a separate box. Lets take a closer look.

The Gokai Darin looks nice. It is actually two separate parts. the control column and the seat. The control column is mostly green with some gold trim on it. Yes the control wheel in the middle spins, The chair is mostly gold with some silver.The part where the figure sits is brown. The detail is just great on this thing.

The figure does look good seated with the Gokai Darin.

Its a good set to have if you are a Gokaiger fan, but if you are not as much a fan The later released figures are sold without this bonus item. I do like the idea this Gokai Darin came with the figure. It adds more display option.

Verdict- I do recomend this figure. Yes. It wiil be a good addition to someone's SH figurearts collection or for a fan of sentai. Its a very well made figure. A lot I would expect from Bandai to put into a figure and maybe more. I had fun posing this figure. There is a lot the figure can do. I do plan to collect the whole Gokaiger team.

Tokyo trip second day-

Already the second day here in tokyo. My adventure in tokyo takes me to Shibuya. A bus at the ark hils complex just next to the ANA hotel goes straight to Shbuya station. From shibuya I took headed to shinjuku on the rapid express train. The saikyo line.
Shinjuku. The heart of the city. I got out at the south exit, which touches the west side of shinjuku where i was headed. The Yodobashi area where all the electronics stores and arcades are. I have seen some new releases of games for the PSP. Like the new Super Robot Wars Z which came in a special box set. Very nicely packed collectors edition and limited. In the model department new releases have come out too. Like the new Master Grade 00 raiser. The model floor of the yodobashi hobby kan. is filled with boxes almost to the ceiling as people enter. One part in the middle of the floor with new releases.
I got myself some detail up parts for a model I plan to make later on. But its a rare one. Released back in 2009. I went over to BIC camera to find other stuff I needed. Nothing so thats why i went back to Yodobashi hobby kan later on to get what i needed. I still have other stuff to get during the week.
Back again in Shibuya. Having dinner at Sushi Zanmai. I have to say yet its simple. The quality of the food was good. Enough to make Sasabune and Yanagi look like a joke in comparison. There are better places to go in Tokyo for this type of food. The highest graded tuna. Having alot of fat on it and marbled. Very smooth in texture. That food always goes well with beer.

Tokyo Trip Day 1 Arrival time 3;30 pm-

A safe arrival in tokyo's Narita airport. United 880 arrived at about 3:30 pm. I was actually excited to get off that plane as soon as it got on the tarmac. Walking through the airport to the baggage claim I still had to take in the sheer size of the building. Very nicely designed and kept clean. Immigration took a bit long but it was still efficent. I don't know how many times i had to take my picture for their records the few times I came to Tokyo. That was one more added to their files.
My mother being with me. We both changed our dollars to yen after we cleared the customs. I will say a lot has changed here in tokyo over the years. I was able to see that on my way to my brothers appartment where I was going to stay for this trip. Later my mom and I had dinner at the ARK Hills which was next to my brothers apartment. I have to say the food was good even if it was a simple soba noodle dish. I had a coffee after that to end the night.

Part I : Review: Saint Myth Cloth Capricorn Shura Surplice-

This will be a triple feature of three of the main Surplice Spectres in the Saint Seiya Hades Chapter Anime. All off you are probably wondering, who is Shura? From Wikipedia- Shura belongs to the fabled rank of Gold Saint hierarchy among the other 12 Gold Saints. His guardian star is of the zodiac sign of Capricorn.Shura is the Gold Saint that underwent some modifications in his ideology when the manga was adapted to animation. While the anime series shows Shura as being the most loyal Saint to Athena, Kurumada depicted in his manga a Capricorn Saint that at first was somewhat reluctant, but short moments before his death, rediscovered his loyalty to Athena, and remained faithful to her even after his death.

The Hades Chapter- Shura, Camus and Saga quickly made their way to the temple of Virgo, where they confronted the single Virgo Shaka. As they battled, Shaka realized that their combined power would soon end in his death. Shaka unleashed his ultimate technique which combined both defense and offense at the same time, the Tenbu Hōrin. Shaka also began taking away their senses, until they had only one left. Shaka told them they would be soon defeated by him if they didn't combine their Cosmos and unleash the deadliest attack deemed forbidden by Athena herself, Athena Exclamation. Although Saga agreed, Shura and Camus begs not unleash this attack, as they will be branded worse than traitor. Eventually, the former Gold Saints unleashed the Athena Exclamation, killing their comrade and lamented on the fact that Shaka had to die like this. However, Shaka's spirit came back to life for a short while only to write down his last message to Athena. Shura agreed to assist Shaka in suicide but wept over the fact Shaka was already dead as his body faded away into stardust.

Athena, hearing their battle from the Hall of the Pope, summoned both groups over. Understanding the message that Shaka sent her, Athena commits suicide so that her spirit could enter Hell. After her death, the trio planned to blackmail Pandora into taking them where Hades was. As they entered Pandora's castle, Shura quickly held her under his sword and demanded to be taken to Hades. However, Pandora revealed to them that their twelve hours of life would soon be over, and the three fell as the sun started to rise, slowly disintegrating to dust. Before Shura's body turned into stardust, he reminded Shiryu of the gift that he had in right arm, and why he was given Excalibur. On with the review-

In December 2004 Bandai the a Myth cloth figure of Capricorn Shura as a gold saint. Which i do have. I picked up when it was released. By demand of fans of the series, Bandai releases the Capricorn figure for the second time. On January 2009 the Surplice Capricorn spectre is released. I got mine at Toys n Joys pre-ordering it. And picking it up when the shipment arrived. Compliments of Art Molina. Thanks Art.

Package- The box is a clam shell bookstyle package. That opens up in the middle to show the contents with out having to open the box and look inside. This is a good idea Bandai came up with to keep the contents in the box still untouched while collectors who are shopping can have a look at the pieces and whats in the set.

The front of the box shows the orginal character in the anime on the left. To the right shows the figure all covered in the armor. Set over a background looking like a black hole.

The back of the box shows the figure at the with a back ground of the zodiac temples in greece. And a few images of the figure showing briefly the features and what it can do.

The figure- The figure is mostly plastic through out the whole body. The only thing that is metal are the feet. A generation three type figure. Having more joint movement than the previous versions. Hinged toes, hinged and swivel ankles, double hinged knees. ball jointed hips, swivel and ball jointed wrists, ball jointed elbows, hinged and swivel body, ball jointed elbows and ball jointed neck.

Joint movement- A very important thing for every action figure is how much articulation it has. This makes it possible to assume a variety of poses one can think of. I did try putting the figure in many different poses. I was impressed with the degree of movement each joint had.

One effect that was improved over the years was to make the figure crouch on one knee like a human being. The double joints on the knees make now make this possible for the figure to do.

At one time it was not possible to get the figure to stand on one leg on its own. You would always have to hold it. That too is now possible. And able to not only stand on one leg but to do a kick. Properly balancing itself on one foot. The metal feet help with that part. Takes a lot of patience and time to get this position right. Another plus for Bandai on the design of the figure.

The Capricorn Object. It was never seen in the series the Capricorn Surplice being in its object form. Off Shura's body. Bandai decided to add it to the set. It looks similar to the Capricorn Gold Cloth object. Only difference is the color and the chest plate being designed differently. The manner in putting the statue together is the same. It did take me a few minutes to put together. A lot of it was straight forward. I have to say it looks really good in the purple and black colors. It gets better from here.

Putting the armor on the figure- I took the whole Capricorn object apart. I never thought there would be a lot of pieces. Maybe its just me. Its the same amount of pieces as the Capricorn gold cloth. Putting the statue frame aside, I had to look at the instruction diagrams carefully. The manner of how the armor goes onto the figure is different from the statue. So i started with the legs. The leg pieces on this figure have multi-components. The top half has to be put on first then the lower half. These peices go on after the thigh pieces are on. The lower body, skirt armor and chest armor are all straight forward when putting them on. Same with the gauntlets, shoulder pieces and head piece. The figure looks really good. It has sort of a menacing feel to it. The steel trim along the shoulders enhance the appearance more.

Even with the armor on the figure's articulation is not hindered. Depending on the pose the weight of the armor will allow it to stand on its own. This can be good and sometimes its not when the figure is put into battle poses. Even his signature move, Excalibur can be replicated.

Seiken-Excalibur!!!

This set is packed with some features. An extra neck sleeve and hair piece. This is for the Capricorn Gold cloth. You can use the head of this current figure on the gold capricorn saint. Put the sleeve over the neck and then shura's head from the current set, on. Then put change out the hair piece and put the gold head piece on. I'm thinking maybe I can get a second Surplice Capricorn figure and use the head from it on my gold capricorn saint. This is just an idea.

Comparisons- There are differences between the two. Which I will briefly talk about. The surplice Capricorn on the left and the gold Capricorn on the right-

From the front view- lets start with height. The surplice Capricorn is a little taller than the gold Capricorn. The armor on the gold Capricorn is looks heavier. The surplice Capricorn's armor looks sleeker. Face sculpt- the surplice capricorn's face is more anime accurate. The knee covers on the surplice capricorn are higher and sharper than the ones on the gold capricorn. the shoulder pieces are also a bit different. The for the surplice capricorn its more straight. For the gold capricorn its rounded and they go up in a bit of an angle.

From the back view- What I wanted to point out here first are the gauntlets. The elbow covers for the surpice capricorn its longer and sharper than the ones for the gold Capricorn which doesn't extend past the elbow joints. But covering them. Mind you, they both look good. Don't get me wrong on that one. But the Surplice version is more proprtioned and to scale with the character in the anime.

Like every gold saint figure in the myth cloth line, even this one Is able to do the Athena Exclamation. One of the reasons why I got this figure was for that. I thought it was pretty neat that the figure can be put in the Athena Excamation stance. This is actually how i will have this figure displayed on my shelf.

Conclusion- I like it. I think the colors of the armor look really good on the figure. Bandai did a good job on the whole thing. Paid real close attention to it and didn't miss out on any minute details. More than the previous gold saint releases. I'm hoping to see more of this surplice style of saints released in the future. I would recommend it highly to a saint seiya fan. Or collectors like myself. Again I would like to thank Art Molina for his accomodations on getting me this figure. As always.

Review: Myth Cloth Pegasus God Cloth Gold version-

Hello and I'm back with another review. This time on something different from the Saint Myth Cloth line. Not being a regular release in the Myth Cloth figure line. Still a welcome addition to my collection. I got mine at Toys n Joys. I ordered directly from Japan. Thank you Art for your accomodation as always.
The figure iitself from the Hades Elysion chapter of the Saint Seiya Original Video animation series. Reaching a climax. The bronze saints have to fight hades left and right hands Hypnos and Thanatos. Seiya engages in a fierce battle agains Thanatos. Later the other Bronze saints arrive in time to join the fight while Seiya has been holding off Thanatos a long time. Iwill get into more of that later on.
Bandai relesed this figure as a special edition exclusive only through the Tamashii Nations event. The regular release of the Pegasus God cloth is still available for those of you who want still want to collect get the figure or want to add it to your Myth Cloth collection. On with the review-

Packaging- The box is the same length and with as the regular release of the God Cloth Pegasus figure. Being a clam shell style that opens in the middle to show the contents in the boxes. A trademark style of Bandai with Saint Myth cloth figures from the very first release to the current releases.

Front view of the box looks similar to the box of the regular release of the God Pegasus. On the far right side shows the figure in its armor. On the left side shows the armor in its object/statue form. Over a blue background. Minus the image of the origina character shown in the Anime. Its nicely done. It shows the figure in detail.

On the back of the box shows a background scene from the OVA at Hades temple. Seiya in his armor approaching to rescue athena. To the right of that are pictures of the figure, briefly showing its features. To the top left shows the Pegasus Cloth in statue mode. Below that shows a picture with an added feature of this figure I will get into later on. The setting. background. layout of this scene is well done. Bandai did a good job with it. It shows Seiya's will to rescue Athena from Hades. After fighting hard to get to this

point. Lets dive in-

I've carefully removed the two plastic tray inserts from the box. One tray on each side. And having a clear plastic cover over them to keep the pieces in place. This keeps the pieces from going all over the place when the box is moved around. I remove the covers from each tray carefully making sure the pieces don't go everywhere.

The left tray contains- shoulder pieces, bicep pieces, guauntlets, a set of hand covers, a set of extra hands, leg and thigh pieces, knee protectors. head piece, extra hair piece for the head piece, body and chest armor, and collar piece.

The right tray contains an extra body armor, lower body pieces side skirt armor, front and back skirt armor, pegasus cloth object frame parts, wings, cloth object base, a plastic bag with an extra chest piece and sword I will talk about

later.

Figure- I carefully removed the figure from its tray insert. Its a generation three figure. Something Bandai has been improving over the years as new figures in the Myth Cloth line have been released. Not only have the fighres improved in articulation but also but in haor and face sculpt as well. Making the figure look more anime accurate. I must say Bandai really paid close attention to this part.And well too. The figure is mostly plastic. The feet being metal. For added weiight allowing the figure to stand on its own whille assuming different poses. The figure has Hinged toes, swivel and hinged ankles, double joint knees, ball joint hips, ball joint wrist, double hinged elbows, swivel and hinged bidy, ball joint shoulders, and ball joint neck.

The cloth object. The God Pegasus Cloth has never been seen in this form on the anime. But Bandai decided to add the feature to the set. It took me a few minutes to put this thing together. I had to put each of the armor pieces on the frame separately then put the statue together and set it on the base. I must say it looks really good. Very nice.

The armor- After taking apart the cloth object, Which was a lot of pieces, I put the armor onto the figure. Starting with the feet and working my way up. The armor looked similar to the regular release God Pegasus. But this one was all gold. This is pretty much what the producers of the anime should have done was make Seiya's God Pegasus armor. Make it in gold when Seiya burned his cosmo energy to a divine level. Unfortunately that didn't happen. But, I would have like to see it. The armor being gold, does not have too much metal on it. Diecast parts include the arms, upper legs, knees, part of the chest, outer waist and shoulder pieces. All the rest is

plastic.

Must say the figure looks impressive. The armor is shiny. The gold really enhances the appearance giving that. Actual divine nature to it the armor actually represents. How does this armor form? For those of you who are wondering, thats what i will talk about next. Its actuall a combination of two cloths fused together to form that one divine cloth.

The Pegasus God Cloth is a combination of the pegasus Cloth and the Sagittarius gold cloth. During seiya's battle with thanatos, his pegasus cloth was destroyed later the Sagittarius gold cloth comes to aid him in the battle but it was not strong enough to hold out against Thanatos' attacks and it too was destroyed. Athena urges Seiya to raise his cosmo to a level beyond his exsisting limits. At the same time the two cloths fuse and form the Kamui of God form of the pegasus cloth.

The wings do open and fold in. It does have a large wingspan when the wings are spread out. Those feathered angel wings are from the sagittarius cloth when this God cloth was formed. Bandai did pay close attention to the details on this part. You can see each feather molded into the wings.

Bandai paid close attention to other details on the armor itself. All the raised details are visible right down to the hand covers. The armor doesn't hinder the joint movement so much. The figure can be posed in a variety of different poses even with the armor on.

Those of you who are wondering why there is an extra chest piece and a sword in the set. Towards the end of the series when Seiya rescues Athena he stands up against Hades. And Hades' sword hits seiyas chest during that fight. Bandai added those two pieces on the set to replicate that scene. The sword is molded to look like Seiya got stabbed with it. I thought this was a good idea. Again Bandai did a good job with this

feature.

Verdict- Its a very nice figure. As I always said it many times, Bandai did a good job with

it. I was impressed with it. Only thing i gotta watch out for is the knee armor. It falls off the figure sometimes when handling it. But thats a minor thing. Its not a big deal. Still its a very nice figure. I would recommend it to collectors or Saint Seiya fans who collect the figures. This figure a toy not for kids. Its aimed for the adult collectors. I seemed to have noticed this with the Saint Myth cloth line. Just collecting a few of them. So once again thank you Art for your accomodation on ordering this figure.

Review: Soul Of Chogokin GX-31V Voltes V Volt In Box version-

I'm gonna start with an intro to this review with the opening theme of Voltes V. Aired in April of 1977, a series that put a whole new theme to the super robot genre in Japanese animation. The series was Voltes V. It soon became popular in the months ahead. Its popularity spread out as far as the Phillipines. Dubbed in both english and tagalog, the native language of the Phillipines. Even up to now Voltes V is still big in the Phillipines. At one time, Pres. Marcos had Voltes V banned in the Phillipines because of the graphic nature of the battle scenes in the show. As time passed that came to an end. Voltes V was once again aired on Fillipino TV. On what they call the Hero Channel.

A year later after the show aired on TV, Bandai had released the a Chogokin toy of Voltes V. Which grew in popularity very very quickly over the months of its release. Bandai's sub-company Popy released Deluxe Volr Machine vehicles which were sold separately. Which by concept, was to get all the Volt Machines and combine them to form Voltes V. Some of the collectors or kids were not so lucky to do this, so Bandai decided to release a set with all the Volt Machines in one box. The Volt In box. Each Volt machine is similar to the ones sold separately but packed together.

First release of the Volt In Box set. Which grew in popularity over the months after its release. Which in years ahead became a very valuable collectors item. In mint condition this set would sell on Ebay for about a little over $1000
USD.

By the 80s Bandai America bought the licensing rights for the deluxe chogokin toys. Naming it the Godaikin line to be allowed to sell the deluxe chogokin's in the United States. Among them was Voltes V. Similar to the original Japanese release. Only difference is the packaging. This godaikin also became popular among collectors in the months that followed the release. When combined forming Voltes V, it stands about 12 to 13 inches
tall. Still a sought after item among collectors.

In 2008, about late December, Bandai releases a new and welcome addition to their Soul Of Chogokin line. The Volt In Box version of Voltes V. I have the previous 2006 release of the SOC Voltes V. I was looking through a mail order catalog in a hobby shop in kaimuki and saw this guy on the page thinking i could order it. No luck It was an irrestable temptation to get it. I knew only that I wanted it. I'm not one for popular stuff or must haves, but Voltes V is an exception to that rule. I got mine compliments of Toys N Joys. Thank you, Art for your accommodation. I saw this at the store on the shelf so I grabbed it. A valuable piece i have here.

Packaging- The style of the packaging is reminiscent of the old school design. Following the look of the old Godaikin Box. It has a handle on one side so it can be carried around. The card board is a little thicker than the one used for the 2006 release. And of better quality.

The back of the box shows multiple images of the toy itself. Voltes V in the back ground. Infront of that is the Volt Tank. To the far left are images of the Volt Machines. I like how this was set up its very nicely done. It has a sort of eye catching effect to it. One of Bandai's touches to draw attention to the their customers. Clever. Call it good marketing strategy. Lets dive in-

A look at whats inside- There are no flaps on either side of this box like the old school Godaikin box, the top opens in a clam shell style. This makes it easier to see whats inside and take all the contents out. The set comes with the styrofoam tray insert instruction booklet and a plastic vacuform tray packed with all of the accessories.
Like the Godaikin release, each of the major parts of Voltes V, which is the Volt Machines are packed in a styrofoam tray insert. With the card board overlay that has each part labeled. Strangely enough the whole thing was packed with a lot of plastic. Well each Volt Machine was packed individualy in plastic aside from being in the foam tray. Those of you are wondering like i am, whats with all the plastic. No that anything is going to get damaged in the foam tray, but its to keep the dust off the parts. Bandai always packs their merchandise well. In fact, too well. I didn't have to worry about anything being damaged. Thats the good part. No complains there.

This plastic tray contains all the accessories. Two layers were needed to contain all the parts in the set. Like the 2006 release of Voltes V, its a lot of pieces. All the parts from the 2006 Voltes V set are reused in this set. Its not suprising because this set is identical to the previous one. There are some changes made on this new set which I will get into later on.

The Volt Machines- The five vehicles that combine to form Voltes V. Each volt machine fuction as separate units separated. When combined forming Voltes V they all act as one unit. I took each one carefully from the styrofoam tray and took them out of the plastic and lined each one up on the table.

Volt Krewezer- This fighter plane forms the head of Voltes V. Weapons are, krewzer cutters. Blades on the tips of either wing. Krewzer missiles which shoot out from lauch tubes on either side behind the cockpit. Features: opening cockpit canopy. Made of all plastic. Nicely detailed.

Volt Bomber- This forms the arms of Voltes V. A magnet on its back joins it with the Volt Krewzer when in head mode. Good detail mostly plastic.

Volt Panzer- This is the body of Voltes V. Features: Panzer claws. The cockpit of Volt Bomber is housed within the Volt Panzer when combined. I must say its heavy. Its a brick. The thing has a good amount of weight to it. Very good detail.

Volt Frigate is the biggest of the five Volt Machines. It forms the legs of Voltes V. Folding wings, retractable towers on top side. A buttion on the outside of each leg, causes the towers to pop up. When combining with the volt tank the cockpit, the cockpit retracts and joins with the bottom of volt panzer. Metal joints. Has good amount of weight to it. Nicely detailed.

Volt Lander forms the feet of Voltes V. It joins to the bottom of the Volt frigate. A lot of chrome. There are two door on the front that flip open to reveal the twin lander drills. And rolling wheels. The two halves split forming each foot of Voltes V and joining with the volt frigate. All plastic. Nicely detailed. Good design.

Now to form Voltes V. What do we do first? V-TOGETHER!!! Go in V formation. LETS!! VOLT!! INN!!! The question is can Voltes V be considered a Gestalt. Gestalt in german defines a unity of separate parts functioning as one entity. The team work of the Volt team operating the five Volt machines when combined to make Voltes V work. This unity is what makes Voltes V a Gestalt. It showed in a few episodes that Voltes V cannot function unless the Volt Team work together. I couldnt do the Volt in sequence like on the show so I started from with the Volt Lander and worked my way up. The robot stands about 10 inches tall when combined. The manner of how the whole thing comes together is similar to the 2006 Voltes V release. Still its very cool. It doesn't get better than this.

Joint movement /Articulation- A very important factor for me as a collector. The one thing I look into very closely with something like this is the amout of joint movement it has and how

much articulation it has. Even after being combined, it has a good amount of joint movement. Its not a stiff rod that has movements limited to the arms or legs that can pivot in one direction. Who said sacrifices had to be made for the features its loaded with. Over the years from the time the Godaikin Voltes V was released up to this current version, the engineering and design of the toy has improved a great deal. The details and the amout of poses the toy can be put into and being able to hold that pose without falling proves it. I'm not joking. I have put this guy in a few battle poses and it held that pose and didn't fall over. I was impressed to see this. It made displaying the toy a lot easier. Fantastic results.

VOLTES!!! FIVE!!!

Features / Weapons- The obvious thing. Voltes V over the years has always been loaded with features. And comes with a whole lot of weapons. I can only guess how much more impressive it is. Here are some examples.

Choudenji String (electro-magnet whip)- This is stored with in the waist of Voltes V. Literally being Voltes V's belt. Which can be pulled out from both sides or either side. The buckle in the middle pivots downward and on the waist is this yellow tape like thing Voltes V grips and pulls out. The ends are sharp and uses this to whip his enemies with. At times bind them with the Chodenji String. This is not all its used for. There is another use for it.

Chodenji-Goma (electro-magnet tops)- The tops themselves are stored in Voltes V's belly. Doors open and the tops are shot out. Voltes V catches these tops using the "belt." To replicate that effect the tops can be attached to the ends. Looking like its been slung towards the enemy.

Chian Knuckle- This feature was also from the 2006 Voltes V release. similar. This is just a mace like weapon used to whack and damage the enemy abit the chain length gives Voltes V good range for the assault.

One of the changes made on this Voltes V from the 2006 release is the chain knuckle it can be launched out. A launcher goes into either arm and the front tip of the chain knuckle goes onto the tip of the missile set in the launcher. And it will shoot out. I had a blast just shooting the thing over and over. I could go on all day doing that. How much I missed that kind of feature. That was great.

Volt Magnum- Its a gun or well, a revolver stored in Voltes V's arm. The 2006 release only had the volt magnum extend out from the right arm. and the hand pivots down ward to clear the barrel when extended. For this new release the gun has to be installed in the right arm and its bigger. And it shoots bullets. How cool is that. I did a bit of target practice with the gun. Three bullets come in the set for this weapon.

Volt missiles- Similar to the 2006 release. A pack of missiles that Voltes V deploys from inside his arms for long range assaults.

The tenku-ken is stored in Voltes V's chest. This has always been a very cool feature. And its removeable so the final scenes in the show can be replicated where Voltes V uses the sword.

Even when holding the sword in a finishing pose the joints move to accomodate the position.

This is how i will actually have this Voltes V displayed on my shelf. Standing next to the previous Voltes V release.

This was taken from the Godaikin design. And much like the Godaikin version, this Voltes V is able to transform to Volt Tank mode. It was never seen in the show but it became an added design to the toy itself. Its very easy to transform. The struts connected to the treads on the Volt Tank are extended for this one

reason. Its the first time i have ever seen the Volt Tank in a long time. It looks pretty cool. I didn't think even with all the Volt Machines combined was able to form a vehicle of some sort. It looks strange but neat.

Comparisons- Now i will point out the differences between the current Voltes V release and the 2006 Voltes V release.

GX-31V on the left. GX-31 on the right. Lets start with color. GX-31V has a lighter shade of blue to it. The GX-31, the shade of blue is darker. More a midnight blue color. Same red color on the head for both. The GX-31V has a white border around the face area. The face guard of the GX-31V is white. The face guard on the GX-31 is silver. Same yellow color on the belt for both versions. The GX-31V has a white line just under the buckle. Both versions have the red color on the feet. On the Gx-31V the front is white and had a number 5 on the Lander drill covers.

Even from the back view they look similar. The tank treads of the GX-31V can fold outward to the side. On the GX-31 it stays unfolded on the back.

The Volt Krewzer on both versions look similar. White along the center an on the wings. The GX-31V has some markings on it. On the center on top its ribbed with black stripes. The back of the wings it has a Voltes lettering on the left side and V-1 on the right side.

The arms. This is part of the Volt Bomber. Identical in design to both versions. On both sides, the GX-31V has white stripes on the wrists. On the shoulder it has the lettering V-2 on. And Voltes on the forearms just behind the wrists.

The legs and feet. The color on the frigate wings on both versions are similar. The missiles on the wing tips also have the same colors as well. On the GX-31V both legs have a white stripe on it just below the knee joints. The frigate wings have markings on them. The GX-31 doesn't have those markings its just clean. The feet for both versions have joints at the ankles. The feet on both versions are red with some blue trim to it. On the GX-31V it has the lettering Voltes on both sides.

The swords. Both versions come with this solid chrome bladed plastic sword in the sets. By design each one look identical. Both swords are compatible to either version. I did have the GX-31V hold both swords. It looked pretty good. The double tenku-ken.

The GX-31's color scheme is intended to look more accurate to the original Voltes V on the show. The GX-31V's color scheme makes it look more like the retro Godaikin look and feel to it. The old school design most of us who know Voltes V grew up with. The detals on both versions have a bit of a realistic look to it.

Conclusion- I like this toy. Its just as cool as the 2006 Voltes V release I have. I have no complains about this toy. Its really well made. Everything on it works. I saw no defects. The reason why I got this toy was it was sort of a nostalgic thing to me. I remember having the Godaikin version of Voltes V when i was a boy. Unfortunately I don't have it anymore so this one was the best thing to replace it. I see it as more of an improvement of the original Godaikin over the years. Between the two versions in my opinion if your gonna get a Voltes V, I recommend this current version. Signing off. And once again Art thank you for your accomdations as always. You're best.

Another Retrospect-

Time flies. 2008 is finally over. Moving into 2009. I did alot of work in the previous year. I admit it. I tried update my reviews as much as I can, despite all the disturbances and losses of time I had while working on the project. I must say even if Toys N Joys didn't use all my reviews I gave them, I'm satisfied they were able to use a few of them to highlight some of their products. I do have more reviews i'm planning in the months ahead for 2009. I'm pleased to say Some of my reviews had a few hits. There is always room for improvement so I'm willing to say I will do better on my reviews in 2009. In the up coming months ahead. The year has just begun, so I at the moment I will be planning what reviews to do for the first month ahead. It may take some time since I am still trying to decide what review i should do to start the new year
with. The thing is, there are a lot of new stuff being released in the up coming months of this
year. There will be a lot to choose from. But unlike the previous year, this year, I'll try to update my page with reviews of each new release I get.

G-Project in retrospect-

Its now 2009. Happy New Year everyone. Esspecially to the folks at Toys N Joys. And in the previous year, thank you Art for your accomodations both in the store and online with my reviews. Its been a good year in 2008. I hope 2009 is better. I am in the planning stages to work on a lot more reviews this year. I have many still ahead of me planned this year. Sorry about the delay. I know it took so long for me to do my reviews. I had to send in my computer for repair. It was over heating everytime i used it. And crashed. Product gripes-

I head this many times over. Almost like a complaint about a few products. A friend of mine here in Hawaii, Bradford Oshiro, did some complaining of producs just talking to him a few times. He spoke of the Mc Afee anti-virus program not working. Or the windows updates not working. THe question is, if the updates didn't work then why do the majority of people in North America for example, having PCs download the updates. As for the anti-virus software, that too. I cannot speak for everyone in the U.S. but, on my computer Mc Afee works well. That opinion of the program not working is out the window.
As for gadgets, I got a new ipod for my 36th birthday. Mr. Oshiro hearing the news. Being a bit late he still tells me not to get an ipod because of it being too fragile. From what I heard his friend had an ipod and broke the socket where the ipod connects to the a wire connected to a computer. How i see it. The guy was careless. And didn't handle the unit properly. For Mr. Oshiro, he sees someone on T.V. complain on the news about the ipod. he doesn't get one. My own judgement. No. I don't act on a consumer complaint about something. His opinion on the ipod is out the window as well.

The night passed smoothly. my brother invited some of his friends over for a swiss dinner. i did drink alot of alchohol. Wine and some other stuff. Its pretty much the first time i have ever eaten alot. So now every one is just realxing. I'm thinking of playing one round of I of the dragon again. Maybe later.

Chicag0 vacation: Day four-

Today i spent time with my brother. We went over to Lincoln park. Its another area here in
Chicago. We went over to a place called Sam's. Which was basically a store that sells wines. Nevere have i seen so much wine. Bottles from around the world of a variety of different kinds. A cheese show case in the back of the store. Not in a long time, but I had my taste of some wine. A white wine. It tasted okay. I looked around. Looking at the different liquors.
Now i'm back home and just letting time pass. Helping my brother clean up the terrace and the B-B-Q grill. I decded to go on my computer and play a round of I of the dragon.

Transformers Masterpiece Edition: Starscream

This is one Decepticon I will never forget. Starscream had an ambition to replace Megatron as leader of the Decepticons. He would try with every chance he gets. Once he sees that moment. He felt he was a more suitable leader than Megatron was. Finally after Megatron and Optimus Prime fought to the death, Starscream becomes the new leader of the Decepticons. The crowning ceremony was held on the transformers' planet of Cybertron. Only to be interupted by someone more powerful than Megatron. His name was Galvatron. Starscream sees Galvatron wondering if it was Megatron that returned. Galvatron gives him a hint, converting to cannon mode and fires a discharge towards Starscream. The beam hits him. The others watch as Starscream gets shocked. A shower of sparks fly out of him. Energy leaps out of him. He turns grey and crumbles to the ground in a pile of dust. Starscream's ambitions were short lived.
Starscream was the very first Transformer I had and its what got me started in the whole toy collecting hobby.
Now again to commemorate the 20 years of the Transfromers Takara released a new line called Masterpiece Edition. Being the highest quality and detailed toys aimed towards adult
collectors. A welcome addition to this Masterpiece line just released recently. In september. I present to you Starscream. First look-

The box shows a computer graphic picture of Starscream himself in both his robot and jet modes prominently displayed in his regular Decepticon
colors. Over a black back ground. On the bottom of the of the box, is the Decepticon logo and next to it says "MP-3" Next to it says Destron Air Commander. Starscream. In red letters on the bottom is the Takara logo. The back of the box shows pictures of the actual toy and its features.

Upon opening the box. Inside, is a plastic tray. In it is Starscream in jet mode. Two missile racks. The clear display stand and the base to put the stand on. And the decal sheet. I will talk about that later. Everything was packed inside nicely. I took the plastic lid from the tray and carefully picked Starscream up from the tray insert. He was pretty heavy. Looking closely, I was able to see the details. There were alot of detail on this thing. Having to be created by Shoji Kawamori, the creator of Macross. I could only assume the detail is like the 1/48th scale Valkyried made by Yamato. If this is so, then there would be nothing better in quality than it is. But then what exactly is Starsceam? I will explain that when i go over his features. Lets see what he can
do.

Jet Mode- Starscream takes the form of Mc. Donnell Dounglas' F-15 Eagle Strike Fighter. A very good design if you ask me. The F-15 being a very agile fighter plane fits his appearance. As a Decepticon air commander. Starscream would have to be fast and agile in the skies. For Starscream thats all that counts to win against his enemy. What are the features of this
mode? Here they are-

Flipping Starscream over to reveal the belly, under the wing, there is an option to put the missile racks that came in the set on the wings. Its simply a matter of taking off his beam cannons and switching it with the missiles. Turn him over again and extend the landing gear so he rest on them. I will go from the front and work my way back. His nose cone can extend out ward it is hinged on one side so it can open. Revealing his radar dish unit housed inside. The cockpit canopy opens. The design is a typical one seater F-15. A working airbrake in the middle of the plane just behind the cockpit. And opening engine covers. To add to that, movable engine thrust nozzles.

Robot Mode- Starscream stands about 12 inches tall in this mode. This is what makes this Masterpiece Editon so good. I hadn't noticed it, but looking closely, I can see all the black panel line details. Now thats pretty good detail. The front view shows every detail like he would look in the movie. I had a feeling since, starscream had a bit of detail in the Transformers Movie, Shouji Kawamori took that design and decided to make something better with it and so he did. Thats what this masterpiece edition is a result of. But, Mr. Kawamori still made the made the model in scale to Starscream in the movie. And some realism to it. Either way. Starscream is Starscream.

His back view shows his big wings. Like in the movie, The wings close in neatly along side his back. On his back the large panel that covers his nose cone when it folds inward when he converts to robot mode is almost flush to his back. As it is seen in the movie, Starscream did have jet nozzles on the back of his feet as heels. And they move, So that helps with getting him to stand up. Starscream does come with some features. Here are a few of them.

Starscream was always the decietful two faced type. and dishonest even to his own leader. On this version of him, he has a changable face. To change his face from normal to his sly grin, tilt he head back and pull the face out and turn it 180 degrees to reveal his grinning expression then set the head back in its proper position. This grin shows more of Starscream. The cold and ruthless Decepticon that he is. The other feature is on his chest. The intake vents are hinged to move upward and open. Revealing this packs of missiles inside. The idea of adding this to model was a good idea on Takara's part. Its shows Starscream can be quite heavily armed. I must admit I do like the feature. I think its pretty neat. Joint movement. Unlike his jet mode, Starsceam is able to be posed in a variety of ways in this robot mode. His fingers do move so i posed him holding a matrix of leader ship i got from my Masterpiece Optimus Prime model. Looking like he stole it. I must say the Matrix cradled in starscreams hand pretty well.

"Unicron, my master."

"With this... I shall make you my slave."

The Display stand- An added feature to this model. It comes with a display stand. The base is black and has machinery exgraved on it to look what is like the surface of cybertron. Those of you who has seen the transformers movie should know what cybertron is. On the front is the Decepticon logo. Set in the middle towards the edge. On the base are two notches. This allows the clear stand that it came with to be placed on the base either way. From the back or from the side. The stand is a large clear plastic arm that slides on to the base. And can be put on in one of two positions allowing Starscream to be displayed in either jet mode or robot mode.

In robot mode, starscream can be displayed on the base itself.

"Fellow Decepticons, as your new leader....."

He can be displayed on the stand looking like hes flying. And can still be

posed in many different ways.

"Decepticons. Attack!!"

Decal Sheet- A whole new touch has been added to this masterpiece edition. And new markings, unlike the original starsceam. These new markings have a realistic military look to them. Having a Decepticon Air Force type emblem. I liked the idea. It fits the concept of Starscream being an F-15.

Verdict- A welcome addition to the masterpiece edition transformer line. I have Starscream displayed on my shelf in his robot mode. He looks really good. He is a welcome addition to my collection. I must admit this is the best transformer of Starscream I have ever seen. For a Transformer fan or collector like i am, I would recommend this model.

Review: Sony Playstation Portable PSP-

Of all things what am i doing here? Another step in the gaming industry. Sony has unveiled a new type of hand held game system the PlayStation Potable. Back in the 90s Sony released their Play Station. Some years later Sony released the Play Station 2 after the release of the PS one. About a year ago, Sony releases their new Play Station Portable PSP. What was Sony's idea behind it? To add some fun and make the PSP do more things with it than just playing ganes. A machine to download media into. Like music, view pictures on it from a digital camera, watch movies on it like a DVD player.

When the PSP was first released, it came in two packages.-

The core system: this package came with only the PSP. Power cable, and battery. Priced at $219.95 about $220 with tax.

Sony PSP value pack: this one is the same as the core system

but with other stuff added to it. Aside from the battery and

power cable, it comes with a wrist strap to carry the PSP with,

head phones with remote control to use while playing the games,

listening to music, or watching movies. a soft case to protect

the PSP in while carrying it. And a 32 MB memory stick Duo.

Priced at about $240.00

Later Sony introduced the Giga pack. This is like the value pack but with a 1 GB memory stick duo. It sells for about $320.00

Overview- the first PSP when it was released was black. Having a very sleek design. Very elegantly styled. Having about the same thickness as the Game Boy Advance and a little longer. The screen is a bit wider than the one on the Game Boy Advance. The PSP logo is on the bottom of the screen in the center. The speakers are the small holes located on either side of the screen. Below that on the left is the Home button. next to it is the volume up and volume own buttons. Below the speaker on the right is the select and start keys. On the right of the machine is are the square, x, circle and triangle keys. On the top is the R-key. On the lower right side of the unit is the Power Switch. On the right side on the bottom is a head phone jack to plug in head phones for private gaming On the left side is the quad direction stick and the analog joystick. For the option of the user to what he/she desires to use during game play.

An added feature- through an infra red emmiter on the top of the machine, this will link the PSP to another one for 2 player linked games. There is an internet connection feature. through the wi-fi net work. This is for downloading other types of media. Like wallpapers or music files. Even video files, like movies or music videos. Its

Sony actually put the functions of an iPod into the PSP and did a

lot more with it. The known media for this machine is what is called a UMD disc. Being the main function of the PSP a hand

held game machine, all games are on the UMD discs. Like a

Play Station or PS 2 disc but smaller. About
1/4 its size. And holds the same amount of game data. The PSP also has the feature to watch movies on it. Like the PS 2 being able to

play DVDs some PSP UMD discs have movies on them. On the back of the machine is the

UMD drive. This is where the disc is inserted. Amazing how a small disc can

contain all the data of a game or movie in it. Now thats high-tech.

To every level.

Customizing? Well there is a way to customize the PSP. A variety of skins are provided for this purpose. Different designs and styles. The style of the skin will depend on the person's taste. Or mood. The skins also protect the surface of the PSP as well as give it an improved look to it.

The verdict. A small and very sleek unit. I must say its the best hand held game system i've ever owned. The fact that i'm able to play both Japanese and American games on the same machine. This i must say is a good feature for a hand held game console. It was worth getting all together.

Robotech: Perspective-

Years have past since the release of this classic favorite. One of the successful shows in back in the 80s. Created by Carl Macek. The idea behind it was, that Macek took three series, Macross, Southern Cross, Mospeada, and strung them together. He called this new story Robotech. Each one of the three series he used was a different generation of Robotech. The idea was good. Very creative. i remember watching it on T.V. as a child. I enjoyed it. A very well produced japanese animated show. The back ground music was good. Reba West, who played Lynn Minmei's voice in the first part of Robotech had a good voice. She sang all of Minmei's songs. Very well done. The idea of having to make proto-culture as fuel was good. This was later mentioned in the Third Generation of Robotech. How the amounts of this fuel was used. It was still an original concept. I know some would not agree to that. Despite Robotech's success, unfortunately Macek ran into legal problems and the creators of Southern Cross and Mospeada, sued Macek for copyright infringement. Macek did create a second Robotech series called Sentinels. It was like a completely different storyline for Robotech. This was Macek's idea. It was a timeline where the new Legioss and Treads as it known in japan, were first produced and tested. Legioss became the Alpha and the Tread became the Beta fighter. Due to copyrights, the names had to be changed. One big queation still remains; is Robotech actually a boot leg series. Honestly speaking, if Robotech were a bootleg. then why are there still a lot of fans. And DVD videos of the series are made as a collector's set. That is so conclusive. Okay it is understandable people see things differently and have their own opinions on somethings. Robotech not was not only a success in on T.V.. It was only later when the show aired. I fist knew of robotech At the time, a company called Revell had the liscensing to manufacture and sell Robotech models. This line was mixed There were a lot if Macross models. Mainly what was known as the Robotech Defenders and Robotech Changers line. Later the show aired on T.V.. I respect people's work. And i know something good when i see it. Robotech did have a good story line. I mean who says its wrong to make proto-culture be used as fuel. There are no borders to being creative. Its as far as your mind takes it. And Macek had this creativity. Like everything its all in public demand. The release of the Robotech DVD sets are pretty much a result of fans demanding the company that produced the show, Harmony Gold to release the sets. Unfortunately, only the fist and last generation sets of the show sold pretty well. The second generation, didn't sell to good. I look at Macross, and i see how Macek kept things close to the original storyline as possible. Through the creation of Robotech, there had to be minor changes that were done in order for the show's three generations to fit well into one whole storyline. Naturally the copyright problems were something to watch out for, but to have an idea that is good, and create something different. Of course..uh, Macek didn't think Robotech was going to be a success. But in any case, I salute Carl Macek for his work. He did a good job with Robotech. A round of applause to the Macek and his team at Harmony Gold who produced the show. Back in the 80s Robotech was one of the best maybe actually the best animated shows i seen on T.V..

Game Review- Tekken: Dark Resurrection for PSP-

This is my first review i will be doing on games. My topic is the latest tekken game for the PSP. Dark Resurrection. This was the one thing no one ever thought possible. That Sony would make a hand held game machine. And about a year back it was released. The Play Station Portable. A basic unit with some accessories. It grew in popularity since its time of release. To add to that. A new game has just been released. Tekken: Darkresurrection.

First look- the game disc is actually want is known as a UMD disc. Having about a quarter size of a CD-ROM disc. In a plastic sleeve like a floppy disc to protect the surface where the data is. on the front is surface of the disc it has the game title graphics. And on the back it is where all the data is stored and read. The disc is stored in a book like case which opens up on the inside of the front cover is the game instruction manual. The game disc itself is set inside the back cover. Easily accessible when you open the case. The case itself has a graphic of the game title logo and in the back ground is a picture of Devil Jin and infront of that below the logo is Jin himself. The graphic art on the cover is very nicely done. On with the features.

Game play and grapics. I'd say they're pretty solid. The characters are detailed pretty well. The game has a lot of good visual effects. The game play shows multi-angled views of the playing field from every direction. In a 360-degree perspective. The game also has a good amount of playing environments to choose from when playing against another player.

This new game has a lot of variety of Characters to choose from. Like the Play Station 2 Version of Tekken 5. Those of you who remembers Tekken 2 or Tekken 3 onthe Play Station. Everyone had a character to choose from in the game. Everyones favorite characters are back in this game too. And alot of improvements have been made to the characters. New moves while still keeping the traditional moves each character had from the older games. Personally i did enjoy the older Tekken games on the Play Station. I've tried Tekken 5 on the PS2 at a hobby shop. The feel of playing this game is similar to the PS2 version of Tekken 5. Some similar features to this version of Tekken and the PS2 version. This new version has some added features.

Customizing Characters- The previous versions of Tekken never had this feature until the PS2 Tekken 5 game was released. The feature made Tekken 5 popular so the feature is now on this new Tekken game. Other than just customizing characters, personalizing the character to how the players taste is another feature. Like user names.

Characters- Every player's preferences are different. Each one has their favorite character.

Take king for example a long time character in tekken since the very first Tekken game. And also very popular. He had several revisions done to him. His moves are still as it is from Tekken 2 and Tekken 3. He also has new moves in this new Tekken game. He has heavy kicks. Which makes hin a good character to use. Being a masked wrestler, his throws have a lot of effect. The current Tekken version of King looks good. Maybe the best looking version. To date, he has more detail and a more solid look. In this new game he can be customized to look even more ferocious than he already is. I found the white tiger mask to be pretty neat. or his silver mask. Its all a matter of mixing and matching the colors of his clothing after for the prefered look.

Having his first appearance in Tekken 2 and then on Tekken Tag tournament
Armor King. A character in Tekken with a background covered in mystery. He is much like King but a bit stronger. His armor shows his sinister appearance. He too has heavy kicks. A variety of moves similar to King. Good throws. Armor King has some strong knock out moves. Like his Straight Arrow punch and his Upper cut. Customizing Armor King like King can be done in a variety of ways. Armor color. With a gold mask. Or his glowing red evil eye. He also comes with a lot of accessories to choose from. Which can make Armor King look a bit more dreadful than he already is. I think it was good that they brought Armor King back. This character and King are my 2 favorites to use in the game.

Playing this game, and Tekken 5, I just found out that the special moves of the characters are not always what brings the opponent down. Sometimes it just a simple move like a punch or a

kick. The special moves are effective. But to time them to work effectively is the key. Throws work good. Depending on who the opponent is, sometimes it takes only throws to win a fight. I mean its a fun game. It will get people going for hours on the action. Those who like to play the game in a set way can go into story mode. And play out the story of each character. There is the arcade mode for those who want to just play the normal game.

Overall: I would say its the best PSP game I have played. I have loads of fun with it. I would recommend it to someone who likes a lot of action in gaming or to a fan of the Tekken series. Its a good sequel to Tekken 5 on the PS2.

A note on customer service-

An issue that has been spoken of many times over and over. As an example, the owner of a hobby shop in kaimuki, Collector Maniacs. His name is Robert Lai. How he handles customers is very unproffessional. There have been complains of this guy being rude to his customers. I'm speaking of experiencing this many times. My attempts to do business with Mr. Lai have failed. In the past went to his store alot, considering i knew him pretty well. Unfortunately as a customer, he didn't want my business. Thats fine. For anyone who is willing to spend good money, it comes down to taking their business somewhere else.
So who did i turn to and where did i go? Put simply i resorted to one place. Toys -n- Joys. I tried my luck. This is one of the places i've known that has really good customer service. Okay the crew in this store try their best. I've bought a lot of stuff in Toys -n- Joys. I gotta admit i was treated well by the employment there. Alex Le, the son of the owner of the store, he was very helpful with some things. When it comes to ordering some certain items. Art Molina was helpful with that part. He informs me of whats new and when the new shipments come in. Now this is what a customer of any hobby shop they got to expects. When going shopping price is another factor. I found Toys -n- Joys to have good prices on their stuff. I cannot complain. Like at collector maniacs, there is no such thing as selling merchandise for a certain price depening on the owners mood. Things don't work that way.
I have done some business at Gecko Books. The owner Ted Mays handles his customers well. The stuff he has in his store are reasonably priced. I did order a model from him a while back and that came pretty quickly. No nonsense of having to order a case of 12. I'm thinking of doing more business with Ted in the future.

Mental Notes while at a hobby shop-

With in Kaimuki, there are currently a total of four hobby shops. Each rated differently. Depending on customer service. I will give a brief rundown on the four shops.

Collector Mainiacs- Currently owned by Robert Lai. An old classmate of mine in high school. The line up. He's not the greatest when it comes to customer service. His store does have a good variety of models, comics, japanese toys, DVDs, CDs. Of course the stuff he sells are priced a bit too high. For my taste at least. Mr. Lai's rudeness and unproffesional attitude to his customeres are minus points. Honestly his store display could be improved a bit.

Mecha Hawaii- Owned by Sean Akita. The new store that opened a few years back. The store itself is a very spacious room. With shelves and display cases along the walls. A lot of the customer's models or the models Mr. Akita makes are prominently displayed in these cases. According to category, each shelf has the boxes and boxes of models. Macross, Gundam, etc. Glass shelves in the middle of the store have a few Transformers and Misc. stuff. The place is kept clean and everything neatly arranged. As for customer service, Mr. Akita does his best. I rate his shop as one of the recommended places to go.

Gecko Books- Owned by Ted Mays. This store specializes in gaming miniatures, comics, baseball cards. Some toys which need to be ordered. I did order a Soul Of Chogokin Voltes V model from Ted's store and it arrived pretty early. "Thank you again Ted." This store has a variety of comics all neatly arranged in shelves. Some toys. What is G-Project? To answer that question, this name relates to my hobby of making models and collecting japanese toys. it come from the japanese term- G-Purojekuto. The whole thing started out as a book where i filed all my material on build up articles of the models i made into a book. Then later expanded this a bit. I made G-Project what is now G-Project Industries. A non-profit company of my own. Honestly, during my two years living in switzerland I had everything planned out to make G-Project that started off as a book to what it is now.
