Smelling The Roses

Yesterday I had the opportunity to celebrate the beautiful life of a young woman named Tamara. I have never been a fan of funerals, but this one was different. There was something so unique about Tamara's life. Unfortunately, she spent most of her life being sick. You see, Tamara loved to smile, and she let her smile become her motto for life. Therefore living each day of her life with a smile, and having Faith that she would make it through the day.

It made me think of how often I complain about trivial things and take for granted the things that someone like Tamara appreciated so dearly. We all have heard the saying that, "Life is too short" , but I now believe I can add that Life is too precious to be taken advantage of. The things that we take advantage of are blessings to us, but they often go unnoticed because we are in such a hurry to get to the next BIG thing happening in our lives.

My advice to you today: Take some time to smell the roses. You may be pleasantly surprised!

I Must Admit, I'm SOOO SCARED!

I must admit, I am a little afraid about this coming weekend's event.

Whew!

O.k.

I said it.

I admit, I get a little nervous from time to time, too! You see this is my very first event, and I just know there is going to be something that will come up at the last minute to make me just FREAK out!

Wait a minute! Did I just speak that into existence? My grandmother use to say, "Be careful what you put out there" , and I never understood it. But, lately, it all seems to be making perfect sense. I am realizing more and more that our words can cause powerful consequences over our situations and circumstances.

So speak life to your situations and circumstances and watch what changes you bring into your life instantly. You'll thank yourself in the long run.

There's power in the tongue.........I dare you to try it!

Enjoy, Elevate, & Embrace........Content With The Journey

Sometimes it's very hard to understand where you're going when you don't really have a true sense of why you are going that way. But is it always important to know about the destination before we actually start the journey?

This picture was taken in October of 2011. It includes myself and a friend from college who overcame cancer. I'm sure it's safe to say that she never knew that she would be on a journey with cancer. I think it's also important to say she is now a survivor, and encourages and shares her courageous story through song.

Sometimes our plans FOR LIFE are not what actually happens. We encounter road blocks or delays. Sometimes we even get stuck in Life's trafficjams!
Regardless of where you are in life's journey be sure to be content. Don't look at what others have and don't consider yourself to be missing out.

Enjoy, elevate, and embrace your journey. It has been specifically outlined just for you.

Keep Moving & Don't Quit!

Wow! Since my last post, things have been changing and developing all around me. I can't really say that all has been bad because it hasn't, so let's just say, it's been a growing experience. For some people, growth comes when things happen unexpectedly. For others, growth comes when life just seems to overwhelm and there is no other way to go - some people like to say that it's then that Life has your attention.

I wonder what is it that keeps us so consumed that we don't pay attention to the things and situations around us anyway? Is it that we are too self-absorbed? Or is it that we just don't pay attention to things until they take a turn in another direction?

Whatever the reason may be, I want to encourage you to keep moving and don't quit. Here's something more tangible to remember:

New Mercies & Small Gifts

On this Good Friday, my family and I are preparing to go to a funeral.
As I think back on my life and the life of Jesus Christ, I am so thankful that He gives us all NEW MERCIES EACH DAY!
Some of you may be saying, And? What's your point?

I just want to add my own two cents worth today by saying this:
"Everyday contains at least one small miracle! Embrace Life and the gifts it brings."

If you didn't notice, today is the last day of the first quarter of the year. I must admit I have not met any of my goals for the first quarter, but I have booked a number of events that will help me meet my goals for the second quarter. I have been challenged to move my business from a "hobby" to a business of profit, so I am walking on pins and needles.
I have a business associate who always says, "Feel the fear, but do it anyway!" I don't know who this quote is from, but it truly reminds me of the journey I am about to embark on. So, here are some tips for you to help you along you journey as well.

Tip 1: Value yourself and the work that you do and others will value you too.

Tip 2: Despite what it looks like, keep working hard towards your goal and reap the benefits of your labor later.

This past weekend I had the pleasure of being the Mistress of Ceremony at the Stiletto Woman In Business Awards in Atlanta, Georgia. It was truly a great honor to be in the midst of women who believed in their purpose, and were serious about the continued success of their businesses. Throughout the day I kept hearing the same thing: YOU ARE GREAT! I don't mean this in an arrogant way, but I do think that everyone there had tapped into a greatness that made their business what it was. It moved me to have an association with all of these women. It made me realize that we were all created for a greater purpose!

In the picture above, I am seen with Shirley Strawberry, the Co-host of the Steve Harvey Morning Show. DURING HER CHAT WITH THE ATTENDEESS, she said something that was profound and I will never forget it. Ms. Strawberry said, "Women of excellence have a champion spirit!"

I thought about that and decided, I've got a lot of work to do. What about you?

When I came across this picture on twitter, I was so proud of her. Sometimes we just have to take matters in our own hands and do what's best for us. I recently started conditioning for my kickball league and I realized that I had worked so hard to just go back to what I was before kickball. I needed to see what came next from comedian Mo'Nique, and she said:

Watch what you say

Unfortunately, we can be our own worst enemy. We can sabotage anything that's going well in our lives just because we don't have enough faith in ourselves. It's just like the saying you are what you eat. Well, in our case it's you are what you speak.

With this month being Women's History Month think about something positive. Create a positive atmosphere around you and focus on that energy bringing a renewed change to how you view ALL things in your life.

Then, pass it on. Share your wisdom with our youth, and impact their lives in a big way. Here's some words of encouragement you may want to offer them:

Attitude is everything!

Make positive habits stick.

Everything starts with the small steps.

Learn daily.

Keep an open mind.

There's no such thing as a failure.

You can make your dreams come true!

Controlling what you say can be a difficult task, but I believe you can do it!
Remember, you are what you speak.

The Final Word

Whew! My wheels are still turning from the 12 hour teleconference that I took part in yesterday. While preparing for my show this morning, I came across this:

BE.THEN.DO. I'm up at 3:00am this morning wrapping up an AWESOME Business model client strategy plan for their Lifestyle brand while gearing up to hit the road on my way to DC (home) for the GlamourLESS Book Release Event. I talk to people weekly with goals, dreams, passions who often find themselves "stuck" on how to truly manifest what they desire. It's simply not a manner of saying "this is what you want" but it starts with YOU. YOU ASKing for clarity, for a renewed mind, and then feeding yourself with information. Being open to receiving answers. and committing yourself to ACTION even when it feels scary. They may not always be the answer you want, it may require you to let go of people who mean the world to you or putting yourself out there in a way that is SO not you. But how bad do you want it? How bad do you believe? How bad can you taste it? You can do this...anything you want, you can do this...All you are are your POSSIBILITIES. If you only knew how much faith it took you to doubt yourself, and applied that same faith to KNOW despite what you see you would be amazed. Claim that PHD or MBA, finish that BS degree, declare six-figures this year or 7-figures or even losing some unneeded pounds. Speak life that you will receive that 7-figure investor funding then get out the bed, wipe your face, BEcome what you want, pick up a book(or consume information) and get out and BE about your business of DOING (BE then DO) #getliberated

Introvert or Extrovert: Do You Straddle The Fence?

I participate in several activities. Surprisingly enough, one thing that I find about myself is that sometimes I can be an introvert and sometimes I can be an extrovert! I don't think this is a bad thing. I believe that everyone should adapt to their surroundings accordingly, and I discovered that I am versatile enough to handle the change.
You see, on a Kickball team, such as the one pictured here, I understand my role and can respond to the needs created for me by my team. However, as an entrepreneur, I can adapt to the needs of my business and yet, still conform to the demand to network and build successful business relationships whenever necessary.
So, if you find that you walk the fine line, like me, don't worry. Consider yourself blessed with a priceless gift!

It's All About Building Relationships - This post is short but sweet!

This past weekend I took the time to show support to someone whom I'd featured on my show. I think it's very important to support one another. The only down side of it is that sometimes it's not always reciprocated, but that's o.k. You see, I want my reputation to be built on a firm foundation. And I refuse to allow it to be ruined because of what someone else thinks I should or should not do

Sometimes you have to go above and beyond what others think to really be a Woman of Integrity. People will always say and do things that may not be in your best interest, but the KEY to the PUZZLE is how you will react to it. If you want my advice, I say just: BE YOU!

Remembering........

I got the news via text late Saturday night around 8:30 p.m. I had a busy day and decided to finally take out my cell phone and return some calls when I noticed a text from a friend. I really thought what the message said was all a joke so I ignored it. Two seconds later, I thought about the text message again and decided to call that person first. She confirmed what I did not believe to be true. Whitney Houston was pronounced dead earlier that day. My heart sank. I immediately thought of her daughter and family members who would be devastated.

I remember coming home from school and putting the cassette into the stereo and playing it over and over again until my parents got home from work. I loved that album. I thought Whitney Houston looked so beautiful on the cover. To me, she represented a new era of music. Her voice was strong, beautiful, and powerful all rolled up into one.

There's a new angel singing in the choir............. R.I.P. Whitney Houston!

B.U.S.Y.

Are you so busy that you can't think straight? Do you find yourself doing so many things to help others that your own "business" is going down the drain because you can't keep up? This all comes to mind for me after last week's Show where we spoke of business and finances. I began to wonder about those business women who are trying to do it all and are getting discouraged. Some of them are just not aware of B.U.S.Y.? Are you? Business Utilization Strategies for Yourself is very important! You have to learn a balance and find what strategies work for you, but the main thing is to have them in place.

I have a few friends that write some great articles and I want to share them with you. Hopefully, you'll gain more knowledge about B.U.S.Y. and continue getting this year off to a great start.

This came across my desk and I wanted to share it with you. I will say, however, that I do not know if Mr. Tom Joyner wrote this or not. There are some many things that come across the internet that are not true. But, if we just take Mr. Joyner's name off of it and read what is said, Is there any truth to it all? I wonder who will be bold enough to comment.
I never get comments on this blog anyway!

We've all expressed our opinions, vented, aired it out, and in my heart of
hearts, no matter how we got to this point, I believe most of us share a
common goal - to re-elect President Obama. That can only happen if we take
all the time and energy we've been using to debate, defend - and yes,
digress (Tavis didn't patent that word, did he?) and move forward. Like the
mamas on my staff tell their little boys when they're distracted by
whatever is on the PSP, DS or Wii screen, "Let's focus."

If we can learn anything from Republicans, it is that they have the ability
to not just rally together, but to grab onto a single candidate, issue,
piece of propaganda, whatever, and clamp down like a pit bull. Once they
make a decision, they will not be swayed. How many times have you listened
to one of them recite the party line, and you think to yourself, I KNOW
they don't really believe that? Maybe not, but by being consistent and
steady until the end, they come out victorious - or, at the least, united.
That's what we need to do more.

Of course, we are not all "like-minded" across the board, and no one is
expected to believe that every single thing that President Obama says or
does is perfect and beyond reproach. But, let's look at the big picture
and remember that if he's going to win, he needs all of our votes - every
last one of them.

At one time, I didn't see the harm in the public criticisms from black
leaders, but a conversation I had with a friend and colleague who voted for
Obama last time around made me think differently. This guy is black, high
school educated and gets most of his news from our show, CNN, MSNBC and
C-SPAN. A few weeks ago, when Tavis Smiley and Cornel West began to make
the rounds on the cable networks, he started to have second thoughts about
Obama. He actually began to let the negativity seep into his brain and
said, "What IS Obama doing for Black people? Look at how many of us are unemployed; he's not doing nothing about that."

That's when I knew that more harm was being done than some people realize.
Keep in mind, that was just one person who happened to express his opinion
to me. How many more black people will stay home from the polls this
November because they think the Prez is turning his back on black people?
Forget that! That's a lie. He has done plenty for African-Americans
and will do more if he gets the chance to serve another term. Did they forget that
Bin Laden was captured and killed under his watch. Let's not even deal with
the facts right now. Let's deal with just our blackness and pride - and
loyalty. We have the chance to re-elect the first African-American
president, and that's what we ought to be doing. I'm not afraid or
ashamed to say that as black people, we should do it because he's a black
man. There are a great number of people who are against him because he's a
black man. That should be enough motivation for us to band together and get
it done.

I'll be making an announcement soon about voter registration and what we'll
do on the TJMS to make sure that everybody is ready come November. In the
meantime, we need to start showing the same kind of enthusiasm as we did
when we were electing the president the first time. Please don't think it's
going to be any easier because we made it happen before. In fact, this time it will be harder.

For years, I've heard people who weren't around during the civil rights
movement say that they wished they had been there. They have a deep need to
be a part of some great historic moment that will make a difference, not
just to us but to future generations as well. Well, this is our moment. And
before I hear the haters say President Obama is no Dr. Martin Luther King,
of course he isn't. There will never be another Dr. King, Malcolm X, JFK
and there doesn't need to be.

We're not dwelling on the past - not 50 years ago, not even 50 days ago.
Whether you're in a race to the finish line, the goal post or to making
history, you've got to keep your eye on the prize if you're going to win.
The naysayers have a vested interest in chunking rocks. We can't stop that.
What's our interest? What are we willing to stand up for, fight for, make
a sacrifice for?

When is the last time we did more than talk about how much we support the
president? When is the last time you mailed a check to his campaign? When
you hear people who claim to represent you and black America saying things
you don't believe or support, you ought to light up the phones, send
emails, tweets, write blogs, fax. Every litt le bit helps. Don't let hate,
pettiness, jealousy, whatever, overshadow truth.

We're on a mission, and a mission isn't always fun, sexy or comfortable.
When you step out there and believe in what you say and what you do, you've
got to take the heat and keep it moving.

In the words of that great philosopher Jay-Z, on to the next.
Focus on November. We're moving forward. Can we do it together? That's the
only way we will be victorious.

Those Three Words

We always hear them, but I really believe we never take heed to them. oftentimes people say it to us in different situations, but what does it truly mean. I believe we never listen to the whole concept of the words. I mean, it's so simple, but yet so hard. These words have inspired many to help them achieve the ultimate level of success, but if they had not been spoken, all would have been lost. I can think of movies like, Rudy, Save The Last Dance, August Rush, and Rocky. It all came about eventually and the same can happen for you.

So.....DON'T GIVE UP!

Be dedicated. If something's truly worth your dedication, you won't regret spending your time and energy on it. Remember, every step you take either brings you closer to your goals/dreams or farther away from them.
