After recapping and reappraising their excellent Berlin adventure, Dean looks ahead to his live Halloween television gig, ghost-hunting at an old insane asylum in West Virginia for the Travel Channel. Phil expresses skepticism and reveals two possible conspiracies that involve Dean and his company Geek Chic.

Speaking of conspiracy, Phil tackles the swine flu vaccine, raising many alarming questions, while Dean weighs in on the marketing of illness.

Then, because “Hollywood” is actually part of the show’s name, Dean and Phil address a current Screen Actors Guild conspiracy theory involving Seymour Cassel.

Finally, Phil steps up high on his soapbox and addresses the alarming trend in contemporary society of not only shooting the messenger, but of doing so in order that we may ignore the message. If you enjoy spirited, thoughtful and inspiring commentary and analysis, you won’t want to miss it.

Oh, and they also managed to record this week’s show in front of a live audience from a hotel ballroom in the heart of downtown Berlin!

For the full hour, Dean and Phil answered questions from the audience members, who themselves came from as diverse an array of countries as Norway, Holland, the UK, Chile and, of course, Germany.

Unfortunately, due to a blown mixing board, the audio suffers from a bit of an echo and some of the audience questions are a bit tough to hear.

It begins with Phil questioning Dean about the road trip he just took with his father through the American and Canadian heartlands. Thanks to Dean and Phil’s spontaneous conversation, we can all get our kicks along Route 66 … And those kicks qualify as good clean, fun, NOT the type of kicks that lead to extortion or on-air confessions or apologies. Dean and Phil could not let the week go by without weighing in on the (alleged) David Letterman extortion scandal. And Phil finds he must respond to those on both sides of the newly inflamed Roman Polanski saga. Finally, staying with the theme, Dean and Phil consider a “rape fantasy” episode of David Duchovny’s series Californication after that episode’s disturbing content is brought to Phil’s attention by a loyal CHH listener.

Somehow amidst all that, the new Coen Bros. film (A Serious Man), the newly discovered ring around Saturn (and a corresponding conspiracy theory its discovery), a preview of Dean and Phil’s forthcoming “live” Berlin podcast, and Phil’s enthusiasm for the best fiction book he’s read in quite a while all get discussed.

Perhaps this is what is meant when people say, “Through the magic of podcasting” … Wait, people DON’T say that? Well, that’s only because they haven’t heard this installment of YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour!

You may know Stephen from his starring roles in such comedic blockbusters as Animal House and The Dream Team.  You may know him from his starring roles on the hit television series St. Elsewhere and Babylon 5. If you’re a fan of science-fiction television, you might know him as the director of the TV Movies Dragon Storm, Path of Destruction and Basilisk: The Serpent King. Or perhaps you know him as the producer of this summer’s box office hit My Sister’s Keeper.

Sci-fi and horror fans won’t want to miss this week’s show, either, as Dean weighs in on the state of the union in the horror genre and Phil does the same for sci-fi films.

And because he’s a town crier, Phil gets on his soapbox about dolphins and suggests a Website created by one of our loyal listeners that you may just want to visit.

Then conversation turns to another recent viewing by Phil, the Rashomon-esque conspiracy thriller Vantage Point, which failed to do much of anything at the box office.  As Dean and Phil have discussed before, no matter how good the film might be (like the recent State of Play) it is impossible for a suspense thriller about a fictional conspiracy to draw much audience interest when the population at large is inundated by, intrigued by and/or obsessed with talk of supposedly real-world conspiracies!  That is why Dean and Phil, along with their producing partner Lyle Skosey, have begun work on a feature length-documentary.  The Truth is Out There will look at conspiracy from many different perspectives, and will cover many different conspiracies while doing so! Dean and Phil end this week’s show with a special sneak preview of their documentary and play a brand new game: Dean Haglund’s Conspiracy Lightning Round.

P.S. We’re aware that Dean has an annoying habit this week of speaking away from the microphone, but stick with it, the show is a fun one!

During our two-week break from covering the business of show, two show business controversies have erupted.  Dean and Phil will tackle them both.  The first involves some wild rule and format changes for the Academy Awards.  The second involves the fear surrounding Sacha Baron Cohen’s Bruno.  This last topic is particularly in Dean’s wheelhouse, as it focuses on issues of both freedom of expression AND the responsibility of the performer.

Get ready to put this one in a time capsule, or at least send it to NPR and Satellite Radio as an audition, this one’s gonna be good!
