Hailey and Doug are getting married out of state but wanted their engagement photos to showcase the downtown Denver area they know so well. With their bikes and their adorable little dogs in tow, we headed out for an afternoon of fun photography.

We love how these images turned out–you can tell that they are so in love and were having a great time together–and hope that you’ll love them, too!

A StumbleUpon Marriage Proposal

Last week, From the Hip Photo had the chance to be a part of a very inventive and supremely cool engagement proposal.

Ty was trying to think up a clever way to pop the question to his girlfriend, Marquita, when he stumbled upon the idea to do it via… StumbleUpon. The pair have a penchant for browsing the web via the social bookmarking service, which offers up random selections from across the web based on a user’s preferences. (We are actually big Stumblers, too, so we loved this idea!)

He wanted to create a web page with a series of photographs that would spell out his proposal and then have Marquita “randomly” Stumble the page. When Ty contacted the folks at StumbleUpon to see if they could engineer a tweak to deliver the page to his girlfriend at a specific date and time he was delighted to hear that they in to help him pop the question.

Crystal and Greg’s Boulder Engagement Session

Crystal and Greg are getting married in Hawaii next month (almost there!) and while we suggested having them cram us into their luggage along with our camera gear, we just couldn’t make it all fit.

However, we did have the honor of taking some engagement photos for the sweet duo a couple of months ago. After thinking about where to have their engagement session, they decided they wanted to have the best of both worlds: some of the abundant beauty Colorado so readily offers up in the springtime and a mix of more urban settings.

Nina joined Crystal and Greg on Boulder’s Pearl Street for some fun shots along the avenues and alleyways and then everyone headed out to Chautauqua for some incredible mountain backdrops. As the photos make clear, there is a lot of love radiating from this couple (how cute is that last shot?) and we think they look fabulous in front of those majestic peaks.

Here’s wishing them a gorgeous wedding in the Aloha State!

Street Fashion at the 2011 Underground Music Showcase

If you’ve worked with us before, you probably know that music is a big part of our lives. Danny runs a popular indie music blog called One Track Mind, we’ve photographed portraits and live performances by a lot of our favorite bands, and we’re always on the prowl for fresh new tunes.

When the Underground Music Showcase rolled out across Broadway last week we knew we had to drop by to capture some of the fun and fashion of the four day festival. You can catch some of Danny’s liveblogging of the first day of the UMS over on his site and check out the photos above for some of the stylin’ folks who were kind enough to stop for a quick snapshot.

Sam and Russ' Engagement at Washington Park

Two weekends ago we had the pleasure of photographing Sam and Russ’ wedding at Mile High Station (you can preview those photos on our Facebook page) and we realized we never had a chance to share their great engagement session at Denver’s Washington Park.

Without further ado, here it is in all its piggyback-riding, creek-wading, scooter-stylin’ glory! Our love and congratulations to the happy couple.

Cora and Colby’s Cheesman Park Engagement Session

As photographers, Cora and Colby’s engagement session is exactly what we live for: a wonderful couple who are head over heels for each other and have a simple, clever idea for their photos.

These lovebirds showed up at Denver’s Cheesman Park rocking a set of stylish, monochromatic outfits that were set off by some big, playful, colorful balloons. They were escorted by their two cute puppies (who were all too happy to lend their personality to the photos, as well).

The results speak for themselves; the photos are vibrant, striking, and radiate the same sort of fun energy that Cora and Colby do.

Katy and Ian's Vista at Arrowhead Wedding

We recently learned that Katy and Ian are expecting a little bundle of joy later this year, so a hearty “Mazel tov!” to these wonderful lovebirds is in order. What better occasion for revisiting their lovely fall wedding from last year?

They were so much fun to photograph at their October wedding at VISTA at Arrowhead in Edwards, Colorado, where they were surrounded by loving friends, gorgeous mountain views, and the warm colors of autumn.

L'′s Boudoir Session

When L. approached us about doing a boudoir session she wasn’t quite sure what sort of look she wanted to go for. After some great rounds of brainstorming, we arrived at an almost cinematic series of images that alluded to a timeless, vintage feel.

One of the great things about boudoir sessions is how much creative freedom they present, so we were thrilled that L really took this shoot and made it her own.

We spent some time at one of Denver’s old post-Deco motels and came up with a set of narrative photographs that is moody and mysterious… and (of course) sexy.

We admire L for being such an absolute joy to work with and for being so confident. We think the photos speak for themselves, but having her write in to say “Thank you so much for the awesome experience” is what we treasure most about this session.

Portrait of a House

Don lives in a charming home set on a small lake in the outskirts of Boulder, Colorado–the type of abode where the pace seems to slow down a bit thanks to the persistent presence of snow-capped mountains on the horizon. Geese and ducks spend time arcing through the sky and alighting on the water, and there is plenty of open space for his dog Cha-Cha to to sprint through the grasses and explore the great outdoors.

As he planned his wedding and reflected upon the fact that he may be relocating to a new home with his fiancee, Don got in touch with From the Hip to request a unique portrait session: one of his beloved house. It was precisely the sort of challenge we relish.

Here are some samples from the album we made for Don, an impressionistic set of images which strive to highlight the textures and sensations associated with his fantastic space. We hope they capture a sliver of the experience of being at Don’s.
