One of my favorite events last year was the Appoquinimink School District's Spring Student Art Show. One of the reasons is that you see some really raw and pure forms of art. You understand what Picasso meant when he said that he spent a lifetime trying to paint like a child and why that statement is meaningful.

This afternoon we heard that something may have happened with the roof at The Everett Theatre. 
But we didn't know what that might be. Minutes ago, we got the e-mail posted below, saying that the roof collapsed. If anyone knows anything, please let us know since we know how much the theater means to folks in Middletown and we'd like to keep readers informed. Here's hoping to a speedy recovery:

It's hard to look at other people who are losing 2, 4, 5 lbs. a week and yet my scale is inching along. I've dropped one sad pound since I started trying to lose weight at the beginning of the year.
I eat pretty decent food, exercise almost every day of the week but my downfall comes whenever I go out of town.

In the hallway, I briefly ran into Harvey Zendt, the head master who is retiring at the end of the school year. His replacement, Peter Thayer (in the photo), has tough act to follow. Delaware State Police Property Division are looking for a trio of puppies stolen from Townsend home February 5th.
A state police press release says a burglar broke into home on Eagles Nest Landing Road, took electronic equipment, and also took two Golden Retriever puppies.

I've heard lots of people raving about one of our past 25 who matter. We featured Peter Briccotto almost a year ago because of the work he was doing to raise money for his favorite causes. Now, he's directing "Grease" at the Everett Theatre, which ends today.

I dropped by Smyrna High School yesterday afternoon to pick up a purse I left behind in town the day before and found a great surprise in the cafeteria.
The lunch ladies were getting ready for the 31st annual smorgasboard. 
The money they collect during the smorgasboard goes to scholarships.

First, 17-year-old Jonathan Baines appeared to millions in American Idol and will be going on to the next round. Jonathan Baines, a 17-year-old from Smyrna sang "A Little More You" and advanced to the next round, garnering kudos from judge Simon Cowell. Farms.

We received word this afternoon of the first midstate baby born in 2008 (at least the first one born at Bayhealth Medical Center).

The ballroom dancing lessons take place at 7 p.m. on Thursdays starting next week until Feb. 7.

Thanks to a Townsend couple, hundreds or children and adults in Africa will receive food, books, and clothes in February. 
We've written about Beatrice and Michael Nkumsah in the past. We recently learned they shipped off a 40-foot container to the port of Accra in Ghana. It was apparently a favorite day of my friend's neighbors who really got into it. They cleared out their living room and had a haunted house for the trick-or-treaters.

One moment we were laughing and talking and the next, one of us spotted the coffin on the deck. Two of us had seen the "deceased" a year ago, during "Mrs. Finnegan's wake." The event at the Smyrna pub is to show others what a wake might be like in the Sheridans' native Ireland.
