#TGE2013. The SXSW by the sea. Brighton’s beauty. Yeah, we’re talking about the Great Escape 2013 here. Things I’ve Learnt – 1. In the evenings, pick a venue and stay there. On Friday evening we queued for 45 minutes to get into Komedia for Little Green Cars (forgettable) and John Newman (good, but very much not my jam), followed by 90 minutes to get into The Warren for Iggy Azalea and Arlissa. In retrospect, we should have gone to The Warren at the beginning of the evening and stayed put. On Saturday we spent an excellent evening in Digital for Lulu James, MØ and CHVRCHES, with minimal queuing. 2. During the day, try lots of different bands in different... Read More →

The post The Great Escape 2013 – Lessons Learnt appeared first on .

Hmmm Smith Westerns… the sound of laid-back Sunday afternoons in the park (or beach, but I’m in London, so only parks for me). Their previous single Varsity caused a stir, with good reviews and ‘air-time’ on various top blogs. 3am Spiritual is Smith Westerns’ latest track. And damn, it’s again an ear pleaser! The release date of the forthcoming Soft Will is pushed back two weeks, to June 25th. More information on Smith Westerns via Facebook Twitter Website

The post Smith Westerns – 3am Spiritual appeared first on .

As summer is cancelled this year in the UK, we hope that the music will brighten up our days. LA’s four-piece Smallpools might have just done that. No surprise that their debut single Dreaming went up to #1 on HypeMachine over the weekend! Smallpools combine catchy pop-electro with a hook-laden chorus. Think of Fun. meets Foster the People with a hint of LA heat! Have a listen to Dreaming below! Oh, and grab it as a free download while you can! Sean (vocals/keys), Mike (guitar), Joe (bass) and Beau (drums) are so far the saviors of summer! (even though it isn’t summer yet) More information on Smallpools via Twitter Facebook

The post Smallpools – Dreaming appeared first on .

Are you familiar with Mayer Hawthorne? We weren’t to be honest. So, after a bit of Google and Wikipedia, we found out that we’ve been missing out a lot on this guy. The Michigan born singer, producer, songwriter, arranger, audio engineer, DJ, rapper and multi-instrumentalist has already released a handful of singles, EPs and two albums. This new track Her Favorite Song, shall appear on Mayer Hawthorne’s upcoming album and features no-one other than the lovely Jessie Ware. What a sexy track! Mayer Hawthorne’s upcoming album Where Does This Door Go is out on July 16th.

London’s trio Benin City themselves as an Alt/Electro Brass outfit, influenced by bands as Metronomy, Beirut and Roots Manuva and Grizzly Bear. And with recent airtime on XFM, 6Music and BBC Radio 2, things are looking up for the band. The track below, Faithless, is the first official single from their upcoming debut album Fires In The Park. I’m not even gonna try comparing them to any other band; this is one of the rare bands around that you just have to find out for yourself! Benin City – Fires in the Park is out on June 10th. For more information on Benin City, head over to Facebook Website Twitter

The post Benin City – Faithless appeared first on .
