Retirement Party for a Lovely Lady

My good friend Becky contacted me recently for some party planning advice. She wanted to plan a special retirement party for her mom. I know her mom (she is amazing) and I was honoured to be a part of the celebration! She provided me some inspiration and initial ideas on what she was looking for and I came up with a few different designs in different colour combinations for her. She and her sister Katie decided that they wanted something bright and fun and went with one of my personal favourites, Pink and Orange.

COLOURFUL ENVELOPES!

Sorry I have not written in a while! I have been busy as a bee :)

Lately, the majority of my orders have been for custom printables, specifically Save the Date and Wedding invites. With such special occasions envelopes play an important role in setting the right first impression for the guests of your event.

One of my fabulous Brides requested yellow envelopes to go with her chic charcoal grey and bright yellow colour theme. I did some research and ended up purchasing an entire sample collection of every finish and colour. I am pumped to show you her awesome Save the Dates but that will have to wait until after they are mailed out :) Her Save the Date design will be available in many different colour combinations too!

The colours and finishes are fabulous and I'm excited to add them to my collection. Now my custom invites will come with amazingly colourful envelopes to match :) Wahhoo! They come in Square, Rectangular and Long.

The Stardream and Metallic's are so pretty. The photos do not capture their glisten but I tried to get super close ups to show their textures. Prices vary depending on size, quantity and finish.

Macaron Madness!

My friend and I decided a few months ago to take a baking class to learn something new and enjoy a fun night out doing something a little different. We found a small boutique in Toronto, Le Dolci that offers various classes and decided to give it a try. Since our trip to France together a few years back we have been missing those cute, dainty, little cookies and we were thrilled when we realized Le Dolci offered a Macaron class!

Our instructor, Maddy, was awesome. She explained the macaronage processes with ease and showed every step of this very intricate process. The entire class was encouraged to participate and we had a lot of fun. Maddy has her own food blog with wonderful recipes and can be found at http://www.duhlicious.com/.

I was quite impressed with how special Le Dolci's space was. They have a store front and attached, through a large sliding door is their studio where they host all sorts of baking lessons, as well as, private parties. I wish my photos were better so you can see just how beautiful the space was. I will be returning so next time I will bring my good camera! Maddy taught us the Italian meringue method for the macarons. We filled our pink and yellow macarons with lemon creme and both regular and whipped chocolate ganache. Oh my goodness were they ever good!! I had one this morning with my coffee and it took all my strength not to eat the entire box I bought home last night.

I have already stocked up on some almond flour and will be practicing my skills as soon as I can! :)

Spring Chef Party!

Yellow & Grey - a soft spring combination!

I hosted a spring party this past weekend. I had a chef come in and teach us a yummy treat to kick off the summer! We decided on Tangy Pepper-Pecan Brie. The recipe is below. It was DELISH not to mention SO easy and quick to make. A must try!!!

I also decided to try something a little different instead of my traditional dessert table. This time I went with a self-serve yogurt bar. I chopped up various fresh fruits, cookies, served whip cream and even cherries to top it off. I had to add a few baked goods :) Im hungry again just writing this post!

Lego & Star Wars!!

My co-worker and friend booked me well in advance for her son's 7th birthday party. She wanted cupcakes that were customized to suit her Lego/Star Wars theme. I was super excited to bring a smile to her son, Rylan's face in the form of sugary treats (see below), but at first, had no idea what a combination of Lego and Star Wars meant! Well it didn't take long to find out! With the help of her custom bingo cards I was well on my creative way.

I AM SOOO PROUD OF THIS DIY PARTY MOM!! She has not planned many large parties for her son and this year she wanted to go all out for Rylan. And that she did!! As I mentioned, she created custom Lego/Star Wars bingo cards for everyone to play. She actually has allowed me to share them for anyone to use. She found it discouraging that there were not more free downloadable print games like this and expressed her want to share her custom made printables with "all the moms out there". They are amazing and I am sure lots of moms or party planners will make excellent use of these. Thank you Rizza!!

She had her uber-talented sister-in-law design the invites for the party. You can check those out below also.

The lightsabers were made from Foam pipe insulation that was purchased from Rona (a local hardware store) for $.80!! Different colour duct tape allowed the kids to customize their own lightsabers and they even took them home! Instead of traditional loot bags each child brought home a cupcake, lightsaber and treats from the Darth Vader pinata!

The kids also played "Pin the Head on the C3P0". What a fabulous idea! Part of the activity was that the kids got to decorate their own C3P0 heads. Each child wrote their name on the back and the winner of the game got Star Wars tattoos, stickers or a mini lightsaber. The same prizes were used for the winner of the bingo games as well.

I think the party was a smashing hit! What do you think?

Lilly is ONE!!

Well, that baby shower was for my niece and her Mom, McKayla. Lilly is turning one this weekend and McKayla has decided to throw here a fabulous MINNIE MOUSE themed birthday. As it was Lilly's 1st birthday, she undertook to plan the entire party on her own. I have included a few photos from the party for your viewing pleasure. What a great job she did!

Frosted & Fabulous created the custom water bottle labels and helped McKayla assembler her amazingly creative centrepieces.

Since McKayla's sister is a awesome baker the cupcakes were already taken care of. I thought I would do something a little different for my dessert that I was in charge of making.

I found some inspiration online and this dessert was adorably cute and super duper easy! You may want to try it at your next Disney party.

All you need is two bags of Oreos. One large bag and mini bag. You will also need some type of frosting or icing for the bow. I used royal icing but any type of icing can work for the little pink bows.

For piping my icing I used a #2 Tip and some pink Wilton's gel food colouring.

Very gently separate the tops from the bottom of the Oreos.

Place two mini oreos in between the larger oreo and press VERY gently. Several cookies cracked on me, but that just meant I got to eat them :)

And the end result - cute Minnie Mouse cookies with a kitchen that does not look like a tornado went through it :)

Handmade Thank You Notes

I have been super-duper busy lately and I am SO excited about it. I sent off one of my first official custom orders! I will be sharing that one soon - but today I thought I would share something I did for fun. My day job employer asked me to create something for them to give to staff members for employee appreciation day. I was excited to do something handmade instead of a digital print, so off I went to my craft station/office in our new house and started crafting! I tried many different colour combinations but something about Navy and Yellow just stuck with me. We made a little spot on the back for a gift card for each person. Fun eh!?

DIY Cake Stands!

Hi Everyone!

I have been inspired lately and after seeing a few of my fellow bloggers give home-made cake stands a try - I thought what the heck!

I made my way to a local second hand store and picked up 6 plates of various sizes and designs. I also found 3 vases, and 3 candlesticks.

Arriving home with my purchases, totalling approx $15.00, I did a wee bit more internet research to make sure I understood what I needed to do.

These tutorials were very helpful for me and guided me along my crafting journey.

Also if any of you are Pinterest members, try searching DIY cake stands for TONNNNNES of inspiration for sizes and colours. Can that site get any better??

First I washed all the purchases and waited until they were fully dry. I used E6000 to glue the bottoms of the plates to the vase or candlestick. This glue is AHH_Mazing! On top of that, the packaging was just so convincing to me. It claimed to "permanently bond anything". I was sold! This glue cost approximately $4.00 at Walmart.

Warning - Only use this glue in a well ventilated area because it is strong!

I glued the bottom of the plates to the top of the vase/candlesticks. Like this:

After letting the glue on my stands dry for approximately two days I got ready to spray paint!

I was very surprised at how well this glue worked! Please note that when using home-made cake stands the paint is not food safe. You will need to put a barrier between your food and the stand. I normally do this anyways but just a reminder :)

I decided to stick with a neutral colour so I could add in any colour of my choice when using the stands for a party or a dessert buffet. I already have a pretty big collection of white cake stands so grey was my selection of choice. Not too bad - 6 cake stands for approx $15.00!!!

Programs and Menus

Sorry I have been missing in action! We have just finished our move to our temporary home and I have finally had a chance to sit down and blog!

A few of my posts have showcased my friend Angie's Peacock Wedding Events. My latest project for my BFF Bride was her programs and menus.

Angie wanted something simple (as we are transporting them all the way to Jamaica!) and something that incorporated her logo and colours. Her menus were double-sided with the food options on one side and the back was printed in a solid colour (divided between Green, Purple or Teal). The programs were double-sided also and both sides are attached below. Angie had her monogram designed by the super talented ladies of For The Modern Bride.

Christmas Vacation for the Doyle Family!

In the meantime, some cute, easy and guaranteed to be a hit snacks for your next holiday party. Im getting hungry just working on this blog! SNOWMAN STICKS

Instructions

To make a batch, melt 1 cup of white chocolate chips in the top of a double boiler.
One at a time, dip one end of an 8-inch pretzel rod in the melted chocolate and use a plastic spoon or knife to spread the chocolate two thirds of the way down the rod.
Set the pretzels on a sheet of waxed paper and press on mini chocolate chips for eyes and buttons. Use orange decorators' gel to add a carrot nose.
When the chocolate has hardened, stand the pretzels in a mug or glass and tie on strips of fruit leather for scarves. For each hat, stretch a gummy ring over the narrow end of a gumdrop and secure it on the pretzel rod with a dab of melted chocolate.

CUCUMBER CUPS

These peeled cucumber cups, with their holiday color scheme, look wonderfully festive, plus they're a snap to make. The rounds provide the perfect base for all manner of tasty fillings. Flavored hummus works well, as do other savory dips.

Ingredients

6 medium cucumbers
1 (8-ounce) container red pepper hummus

1(8-ounce) container lemon hummus
Chopped chives for garnish

Instructions

Create decorative stripes on the sides of the cucumbers using a vegetable peeler (for wide stripes) or a citrus zester (for thin stripes). We did a combo of the two, as shown above.
Cut the cucumbers crosswise into 3/4-inch-thick rounds. Using a teaspoon or melon baller, scoop out the seeds to form a well, about 1/3 inch deep, in each slice. (A great job for kids!)
Spoon about 1/2 tablespoon of the red pepper hummus into the wells of half of the cucumber cups, mounding it slightly. (For a fancier look, use a pastry bag fitted with a large star tip and pipe in the filling.) Repeat the process with the lemon hummus and the remaining cups.
Sprinkle all with chopped chives. Serves 20 (makes about 64 cups).

ANTIPASTO SAUSAGE

Ingredients
- Cooking spray
- 12 ounces fully cooked Italian-style poultry sausage, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 1/2 cup lightly packed fresh basil
- 1 12-ounce jar roasted red peppers, drained, rinsed and cut into 1-inch pieces
- 2/3 cup sun-dried tomatoes, cut into 1-inch pieces if large
- 1 14-ounce can artichoke hearts, drained and quartered
Directions
Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat; mist with cooking spray. Add the sausage; cook, turning 2 or 3 times, until warmed through and browned, about 8 minutes.
Thread 1 small or 1/2 large basil leaf onto a small wooden skewer. Add a piece of roasted red pepper, sun-dried tomato, artichoke and sausage, arranging them on the skewer so that it can stand up on the sausage end. Repeat with the remaining ingredients to make about two-dozen skewers.

PEPPERMINT MOCHA CUPCAKES

This recipe stood out to me HUGE - Mine and Becky's favourite Starbucks Coffee - The Peppermint White Chocolate Mocha...well here is the cupcake version!

Ingredients:
- FOR THE CUPCAKES:
- 1-¾ cup All-purpose Flour
- 2 cups Sugar
- ¾ cups Cocoa Powder
- 2 teaspoons Baking Soda
- 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1 cup Buttermilk
- ½ cups Vegetable Oil
- 2 whole Eggs
- ½ teaspoons Pure Vanilla Extract
- ½ teaspoons Peppermint Extract
- 1 cup Freshly Brewed Hot Coffee
- FOR THE PEPPERMINT WHIPPED CREAM FROSTING:
- ¾ cups Whipping Cream
- ½ cups Butter, Softened
- 4-½ cups Confectioner's Sugar
- 1 teaspoon Peppermint Extract
For the cupcakes:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line 24 regular cupcake tins with paper liners.
Sift the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder, and salt together in a bowl and whisk together.
In another bowl, combine the buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla. With the mixer on low speed, slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry. With the mixer still on low, add the coffee and stir just to combine.
Divide the batter and fill the liners 2/3 full. Bake 15-20 minutes, or until a cake tester comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes on wire racks and turn out to cool completely.
For the frosting:
Cool the bowl and beaters in the freezer for a few minutes. Beat whipping cream until stiff peaks form; set aside.
In the bowl of an electric mixer, beat butter until light and fluffy. Slowly add confectioner’s sugar with the mixer on low speed. Add peppermint extract. Increase speed to medium and beat until frosting is smooth and uniform.
Gently fold in the whipped cream with a spatula until well-incorporated. Transfer frosting to a piping bag fit with a large star tip and decorate cupcakes as desired.

Hi everyone!
Sorry I have been MIA lately. I have been super busy with work, our move and getting ready for my friend's wedding in Jamaica mon!! Super-pumped. I have already begun working on my posts for the custom menus and programs that I created for her but I cannot share until after the big day :)

In the meantime, a quick post is needed. I created these water-bottles for my neighbour. Her daughter had a christening and it was pink pink pink! Super cute. Her name is Mya and she is turning one in December and I have already designed some printables for her party as well. Stay tuned :)

Spook-Tacular!!

Hi everyone,

Halloween is one of my favourite occasions - next to Christmas of course. Me and my husband host an annual Halloween party and have done so since we had the keys to our own house. Sadly, this year we will not be having our party. It's just SOO sad for me (tear!) We are moving and need to have the entire house in storage shortly after Halloween. Then we head off to Jamaica for my BFF's wedding! So much exciting things happening around here.

Halloween for me is so much about decorating. We love making our house all spooky and creating interesting edibles that have many questioning what is in them! Once my husband and I finish decorating the inside of the house we move outside and just keep going! To get my fix of Halloween decor and treats I am dedicating this post to HALLOWWEEENN INSPIRATION! I can't even begin to tell you how much I love the creative thought that went into these parties. Hopefully all you readers out there can get some wonderful ideas for your own halloween parties. If you do use some of these ideas - please send me an email with a pic or many pics - I would love to see how they turned out. It may even cure my Halloween blues :(

Personal sized Creme Brulee!! Seriously!??! WOW!

Im not sure where to find these mini coffin boxes but I am on a mission to find out. By next year you can guarantee they will be on my halloween dessert display in our new house even if I have to make them myself!

The vintage typewriter served as the centrepiece on the table and held pumpkin and owl cookies along with some spooky witch spells!

Bachelorette Business!

A few weeks ago I posted my friend Angie's Peacock Bridal Shower. Well this weekend was her oh-so-fab Bachelorette Party. I planned a wine tour to Legends Winery aboard a luxury SUV Limo :) Inside I had little loot bags for each of the ladies filled with delicious treats, information on our tour, the wines that we would be experiencing, and information on the martini making class that was to follow the tour.

We sipped mimosas and nibbled on muffins and fruit. Not sure I will be allowed to post the "after-party" photos. We danced the night way.

I ADORE this pink Elephant Baby Shower. RubyJu reposted it from Kara's Party Ideas and it definitely needed a home on my blog too. It's ridiculously cute and needs to be shared :)

Kara's sister must have been over the moon when Kara decided to throw her a baby shower themed with elephants - her favourite animal. We don't think this party could have possibly been any cuter! Just dying over so many details. The peanut backdrop, the cheesecake bites on spoons, the ruffle cake with elephant bunting, the vintage plates stacked on a cake stand and the make your own soda station! Just gorgeous!

Its a Jungle In there! More Photos!

A friend of mine asked me to create some custom water bottles for her son's 1st birthday party. She wanted to stick to a jungle/safari theme with blue and green accents. Here is what I came up with for her:

She did a wonderful job sticking to her theme and her presentation was perfect. Despite a few panicked phone calls, she pulled it all together and everyone marvelled at her incredible work.

Vintage Bakeshop Love

In late July, we attended Becky and Will's wedding in my husband's hometown of Miramichi, New Brunswick. Becky and Will lived in Ontario with us for quite some time and this past year they moved home to New Brunswick and we miss them lots. Anyway, the wedding was ridiculously fun and it was amazing to see everyone that we missed so much.

Becky & Will gave me a gift while I was there (Thank you guys!!) I have finally been able to use it. The gift was the cutest little bake set. Amongst other items, included was Red Velvet Whoopie Pie Mix from Vintage Bakeshop.

Bridal Shower with A Touch of PEACOCK!

My BFF is getting married this November, and we get to fly to tropical Jamaica for the festivities!! Thank you Angie & Shawn. What is so exciting for me is that I get to be her Matron of Honour. With such a duty comes hosting the Bridal Shower (yippee!!) Needless to say, I was thrilled to tackle the task. Angie's wedding will be a Peacock theme. This means her colours will be Purple, Green and Teal. Such a pretty combination when all put together. I actually am going to order my dress today!! Here are some photos from our wonderful afternoon. The custom paper details such as the pretzel cones, waterbottles, signage, and cupcake toppers were created by yours truly. I cannot wait to post some wedding photos as soon as I can :)

I love dryed Hydrangea. I have 3 large bushes at my house and once the flowers start to turn green and dry out, I spray paint them. The bouquets worked really nice with Angie's theme.

I had an old gold frame in my basement. Once I got started with that spray paint - I did not stop! Next on my list was the old gold frame. Turned out pretty good, although my grass in the backyard is not looking so green anymore!

I found these coloured straws at Ikea and they were also the perfect colours!
