That said, I do wish that Zack Snyder would have done a bit more personal interpretation of the source material and not tried to replicate all the major beats panel-to-panel. It's just so strange going into a movie, being a fan, and really not being surprised at all about anything that unfolds on the big screen.

I honestly feel that the movie makers decided incorrectly as to the level of accuracy they felt they needed to achieve with this film. It's almost as if they were afraid to dramatically change anything (ending aside) and probably would have preferred to just have released the motion comics (watch them if you haven't) into the theaters instead. Personally, I would have loved to have seen a lot more changes, improvisations and, actually, direction in this movie.

I guess my point is that if you don't endeavor to expand the experience of a movie past what was accomplished on paper, then there is no real hope to expand its viewership beyond those who read what was on that original paper. Movies that understood this were The Dark Knight, Spider-Man and Iron Man... all of which took the best elements of the comics and then greatly expanded on them to create something completely new. The failure of Watchmen movie is that it didn't really do anything new. All it was, was a tracing. And I can certainly bet you that most people are not going to pay good money to see a tracing.

[UPDATE]: Zack Snyder's adaptation of the graphic novel Watchmen (Warner Bros.) took a nasty plunge from its strong opening weekend, dropping 67% to second place with $18 million in its second weekend. It has grossed $86 million in North America in its first ten days, though it will be a push for it to get to $130 million before it's gone from theaters.

And they said we need some help on something, can you meet us tomorrow and talk about something. I met with them and they had a draft for this movie called Ninja Assassin which wasn't where they wanted it to be. And they said we need a whole new draft, a whole new script, and we go to camera in six weeks. And I said, "Okay, when do you have to have the scripts?" And they said it had to go out to actors that Friday. So I went home and put on a pot of coffee, and I wrote essentially a whole new script in 53 hours."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DIYsYOCwOI

I think I watched it like 20 times already. For those of you who have yet to read the comics or TPB, definitely run to your closest comic store and pick it up. It is a must-own. In some ways, it might feel a bit dated, but the characters are just too cool. It is a bit long, but definitely has a lot of interesting info. Hopefully, all console manufacturers read this and take it to heart as a lot of these issues can be prevented. The consumer shouldn't have to pay for the mistakes made by a company. Anyway, here is a link to the article. I know it took longer
than expected to get it out to you guys, but I hope that everyone who
owns the game gives them a try. I'll be jumping online from time to
time to play some rounds, so add me to your friends list as "THE
FROSTMAN" if you're interested in smashing some buildings together.
On a different note, now that I'm working on Aliens: Colonial Marines,
I'd love to hear about what you guys expect or would like to see in an
Aliens game. I'm not talking about obvious stuff like pulse rifles and
motion detectors, but other gameplay features or modes that you think
would get you excited about playing. We just need to do some quick internal testing and they should be ready to go LIVE later this week. The downloadable content pack should follow shortly and add several additional arenas and a bunch more modes.

UPDATE #1 - We've recently run into a small issue with the Title Update, but it should be resolved soon. We should have some feedback from Miscrosoft in the next few days that will determine when we can go live with the the mulitplayer patch and its accompanying downloadable content. Again, my apologies for the long delay in getting multiplayer support out to you guys. Hopefully, you'll feel the wait was worth it.

I know that you Hulk fans with Xbox 360s are probably getting a bit impatient waiting for the multiplayer patch and downloadable content to be released and I want to apologize for that. We have had a lot of back and forth with Microsoft and it looks like we are now definitely approaching the light at the end of the tunnel. I don't want to jinx things by promising a release date, but it is definitely sooner rather than later. I'll keep you guys updated as we go along and look forward to taking you on once everything has been officially released to Marketplace. And, in case you are wondering, the multiplayer DLC is definitely free and adds quite a few additional arenas and modes. Stay tuned.

To me, it's pretty much the movie equivalent of Tivo, as far as the impact it has on my television-viewing experience. I'm a huge movie fan, so having new movies arrive at my house every few days is like Christmas happening ten times a month. Obviously, it saves me money too, as I used to buy DVDs left and right, so now I can just focus on getting the Blu-ray films that I really, really want. Kill Bill, anyone? Still, I tend to watch movies every night, so there are plenty of times when my movies are making their way through our postal system and I have nothing to watch. Those are the nights that I generally catch up on my tv shows, but there isn't much on during the summer. So, it was like a sign from the movie gods when I found out about The Netflix Player by Roku.

Obviously, movie streaming is nothing new to Netflix. You can do it now very easily to your PC. I'll sometimes utilize the service at work, during lunch. However, I really wanted a way to be able to stream my movies to my tv without having to have it already compressed and stored on my PC and pushing it through my PS3 or Xbox 360. That is what is so great about the Netflix Player. You can just hook it up to your television and network (wired or wireless) and easily stream movies from your Netflix "Watch Instantly" queue.

There are only about 12,000 movies available for streaming, but that number increases each week and there is plenty of genres to browse through. I don't know about you, but that is so very cool to me. The only downside is that you can't browse and add movies to your queue from the box, but I generally have my iPhone with me and add movies that way. I also love the fact that it has every connection under the sun, including HDMI and optical digital, and is very small in size. You can pretty much hide it away anywhere.

Some of you may recall that Netflix has partnered with Microsoft to bring movie streaming to the Xbox 360, which is cool. However, I was looking for a solution that I could easily move from room to room or throw in a bag and bring on trips with me. In that regard, nothing comes close to Roku's little fun box. For those of you who are on Netflix, you should seriously consider picking one up. I can't recommend it enough, especially if they continue to update it with future firmware revisions.

There is no arguing that the game was flawed, but there were some really cool moments in it and I suggest everyone go out there and pick it up if you haven't already, especially since you can get it so cheap. Granted, you'll have to deal with the dated graphics a bit.

In the case of Killzone 2, I never really wanted to get my hopes up too high for fear that this sequel would never really live up to its CG trailer or the expectations of a pretty harsh gaming public. Fortunately, it appears that the game is shaping up amazingly and the demo I was able to play at E3 raised up my excitement considerably. Not only was it visually impressive, but the sheer intensity of the gunfights really blew me away. In many ways, it captures what made COD4 so great and throws it into a setting that interests me considerably more. The usage of blur and the insane amount of character and enemy animations, along with the attention to detail on every little thing, really do come together to make this shooter something special.

I didn't get a chance to play the multiplayer mode, but reading details of it, it appears that Guerrilla are really stepping up in that department, as well, and crafting an experience that is amazingly fun and visually superior to a lot of single-player titles. The dual-class badge system and the ability to see what is going on at a particular spawn point before you select it will definitely win over a lot of gamers. I really can't wait until the public beta arrives because I am going to play the crap out of it. For those of you who haven't had a chance to see it yet, here is a video that was released. Check it out here.

As with all projects, this one has certainly had its ups and downs, but I'm hoping that all you Hulk fans out there dig what we have tried to do with the character and the abilities that we have given him.

Making an "open world" game is never easy and it becomes even more challenging when you're able to pretty much destroy everything you see, including leveling entire buildings, but I think the end result was worth all the effort. Hopefully, you guys feel the same.

Those of you concerned by the length of the game, shouldn't be, as you're going to be investing some serious hours if you truly want to find every secret and unlock every bonus. We've got stuff for the movies fans and plenty for you comic buffs, as well, so grab your purple pants and get ready to cause some serious destruction.

On a completely different note, it looks like I'll be departing Team Marvel within the next few weeks to work on a different type of licensed movie game at SEGA. The Title Updates took a bit longer than I expected due to the complex nature of cross-platform coding, but it seems we're good to go and are now just waiting for Microsoft to give us the green light. If you play UAW, thanks for your patience and you can look forward to a lot of fixes, optimizations, and the chance to take on your fellow PC or 360 owners.

As far as Hulk goes, we are in the final stages of wrapping things up so fans can definitely expect to see the game on shelves in time for the upcoming movie. I don't know what it is, but there's just something intrinsically neat and fun about destroying and bringing down entire buildings. I'll often load up the game and just spend 10 or 15 minutes just causing as much damage as possible and not even playing any missions. And that is what I think one of the game's best points is... simply being able to bound around the city, smashing stuff and enjoying controlling the Hulk.

Needless to say, it's a great stress reliever :-) Hope you guys enjoy the movie and the game once they launch next month. Feel free to post any comments you might have about either of them.

I was hoping to get it out before the game ships to stores, which happens next Tuesday, but sometimes things don't work out exactly like you want them to. Still, I'm glad we were able to create a demo that shows off some of the more compelling elements that make UAW360 what is it. And, yes, before you ask, the demo will feature a online, multiplayer component. As far as what else is included, I'll leave that as a bit of a surprise. Needless to say, though, you'll definitely get more than your money's worth, which is good... considering the demo is free.

Speaking of money's worth, I am anxiously awaiting my copy of Hot Shots Golf to come in the mail, as I plan to take on a few of my coworkers and friends in a no-holds-barred tournament that is bound to rock the very halls of the PlayStation Network. Let me know if you have a copy of the game and are interested in playing and I'll see what I can do to get you in the tournament.

On the DVD front, I've been trying to catch up on the Anime version of Witchblade, which I'm still not sure if I like or not. However, I reckon now that I've spent the time to see the first three volumes, I should continue on until the series end. Honestly, the show is not quite what I expected and is almost a bit too light-hearted for the underlying premise. The character development is a bit weak and the enemies that show up generally leave much to be desired. Still, the action scenes are pretty cool and I'm sure there are plenty worse things I could be watching.

Other than that, I'm trying to deal with a sick child, but he appears to be getting better so, hopefully, that means a bit more sleep tonight for all of us.
