I read in one of the columns about having a meat bowl in the freezer and adding cooked leftover meats to it.Is that a good idea? I also read about doing this with leftover vegetables as well. Wouldnt that keep changing the temperature each time you add new meat/vegs to the pot thus creating bacteria?

I found a tip in an old household tips book. For steel wool and sos pads fill a jar with cold water and a bit of dish liquid. They last forever I have been doing it for years now. It prevents them from rusting and they are always soapy. Once in a while change the water and add new soap.

I have frozen my milk for years as well. I was taught to fill my sink with cold water to thaw it out. It thaws much quicker.

I use them as quilt squares for rag quilts - I use them on front and back and add solid flannel in the middle. They look very antique! Two full size sheets make more than enough for a double size quilt and at the thrift shop I found Pottery Barn sheets that are cotton. They were $1 - I love to upcycle!

The flop might have been not heating the grated soap until it fully melts into the water. I have made detergent for a while now and never had a bad experience but have friends who have. They all made the same mistake, not heating the original 4 cups of water and grated soap to the point they are well incorporated. I buy my soda, borax, and bars on sale and figure my 4 gallon batch costs $0.64. Can't beat that!

Vinyl tablecloths also make great drop cloths for painting as they don't absorb paint like natural fibres do.

I also buy cards at VV and Salvation Army. Even if the boxes of cards are incomplete, the price is usually reasonable. I have also purchased Corelle, Tupperware and vases.

I find that coupons do not work for me either. They are for name brands that just do not fit within my budget for grocery shopping which is about $60-$80 a month. Also, here in Texas, there are not any stores that I know of that are willing to participate in double coupon days or allow a coupon to be coupled with sales. Boy howdy, if only Wal-Mart would do a double coupon sale!
