Hi,

I want to download the torrent data using magnet url with the help of rTorretn command line client.

Manually all process works fine.

Now I want to automate the process. I will write the program ( having magnet url) which give command to rtorrent to download torrent data and start seeding. Also when Seeding started for the torrent how my program will come to know that seeding for particularly torrent has started.

Any help would be appreciated.

I switched away from macports due to some incompatibilities, outdated packages, and just a whole lot of meh.

I would highly recommend homebrew: http://mxcl.github.com/homebrew < this is what I use on my macs, and I absolutely adore it.

I'm a big fan of rtorrent, been using it on linux for years. But recently I've moved to Mac OS X and it's been a nightmare. It seems that rtorrent (installed via MacPorts) eats up all available memory on my system and starts to swap. The OS X does not release the memory allocated to rtorrent, or so it seems. Probably a bug that no one else's noted.

I know this is odd but the same does not happen with Transmission, which uses the same amount of CPU as rtorrent here (unless it's downloading at full speed: 3.5 MB/s, then it tops around 10% of CPU).

Sadly, I'm slowing switching my 100+ torrent files to Transmission.

Very awesome article, I had never known what the handshakes/open sockets/max sockets text was before! Thanks for clarifying. Also, you made a little typo (here's a regex to fix it):
s/and will performance in mind/and with performance in mind/

Should've maybe talked about chunks seen/transfer list too, but other then that, still an awesome article. b
