PubMed: New Interface, Same Features

Yesterday, PubMed made the final transition to its newly redesigned interface. Many of its tools and resources have remained the same, but have been relocated on the new interface. For example, some of the tools originally located on the side menu, such as the MeSH Database and Single Citation Matcher, have been added to new menus located on the center of the PubMed homepage.

Additionally, Limits and History, features that were originally presented as tabs on the main page of PubMed’s previous interface, have now been relocated under Advanced Search on the main page of the redesigned interface.

According to the NLM Technical Bulletin, PubMed is updating their tutorials. The Maguire Medical Library staff is available to provide assistance during this transition. PubMed Redesign

The National Library of Medicine (NLM) recently launched a preview of the newly redesigned PubMed interface. The purpose of this redesign was to simplify the look of the interface while maintaining many of its useful features. According to the NLM Technical Bulletin, the PubMed preview version "is expected to run for at least two weeks after which PubMed will exist in the redesigned version."

Go to the PubMed hompeage and click on the image that reads: "Try the redesigned PubMed".

The Maguire Medical Library staff is currently in the process of developing materials and providing instruction to assist users with the transition. Stay tuned for additional information on this process.

Pubmed is a citation database for finding abstracts and full text articles. To access full text articles select the "FSU" button present on the top right corner of the abstract page. If you do not see the "FSU" button, search for the journal on the library's E-journals list. If you are located off-campus, remember to log into EZProxy first.

Alzheimer's Disease Journals

The library has licensed a new ejournal, Journal of Alzheimer's Disease, including the backfile going back to volume 1,1998.

We have access to four other Alzheimer's journal titles:

New DVD in the Library

Immokalee U.S.A., a documentary by Georg Koszulinski. “Being an account of migrant farmworkers in the U.S.A.” (On reserve in the library. Call #: HD 1527.F6K86 2008)

Immokalee U.S.A. chronicles the daily experiences of six individuals who live and work in the migrant farming community of Immokalee, Florida. We hear much about illegal immigration yet most do not fully understand that men who come here often lose their wives, their children, and their country because they do not earn enough money to send back to their families. In spite of the pain, however, there is a strong feeling of community in Immolakee and the Guadalupe Center, a charitable organization, feeds the hungry each day, providing special meals for holidays like Thanksgiving.

New Features Added to EBSCOhost

In response to feedback from customers, several enhancements were added to the recently redesigned EBSCOhost interface. Below is a summary of the new features now available:

A new Image Quick View limiter replaces the Articles With Images limiter
The Image Quick View limiter includes multiple sort options by image type.

Can I limit my EBSCOhost search results to articles that have Image Quick View available?

Can I set the Image Quick View limiter to display under Limit your results on the EBSCOhost Result List screen?
Direct link to the Basic Search Screen from both the Basic and Advanced Search Screens
