I, for one, avoid putting extra pouches on rank and file folks if I can avoid it.  Most of the time… Sometimes I just go all in but I always have it in the back of my mind that I need to paint those details at some point.  Are you saving time by not including them? At what cost?!

The crowd went mild when the updates hit this week but is that a bad thing?  I don’t think so at all.  The cast has a bit of a mixed reaction but I think we are exactly in the spot we were a year or so ago when a few armies had win rate spikes and all it took were a couple of point changes to knock them down a peg into that ‘acceptable’ win rate.  Of course it will take a couple of weeks to see if that is true but there are some giant tournaments coming up that are sure to give us some data.

Tyranids… how do they work?  When you’re writing lore for an army the Tyranids normally just get tossed into the ‘we eat things and adapt’ category and forgotten about.  There has to be more there right?

The Aeldari have had a huge power move of theirs curtailed and this will no doubt give a much better feel to their opponents.   They are still going to be extremely strong but maybe not so ‘invisible’ like they have been up until this point.

Adeptus Mechanicus and Adeptus Soritas got hit a bit but still a LOT better than they were a few months ago, I think.

Blood Angels are once again proving to be  the best  codex in the game    Astra Militarum are going to get to live in their new detachment for a little while too without being hit.  Seems like a win for these folks!

Wow.  These detachments are great.  If we had to ‘rank’ these it seems like the Guard come out amazing and the Chaos Space Marines trailing a little bit. But what is absolutely a fact is that these detachments give you new ways to enjoy your factions and we love that!

The designers are really exploring the Guard Order mechanic and this looks really pushed.  It gives folks some flavor they have been longing for in the form of Commisars and Ogryn too.  What is not to love?

The CSM is all about that Battle Shock and fear causing troops, which is right on brand for a certain Legion.  The Blood Angels dip in deep to the Death Company feel.  Does this remind anyone of Flesh Tearers?  It does a little bit to me.

Pax was great, just like it is every year.  It’s so nice to see people get into Warhammer for the first time.  The Paint and Take was a HUGE hit and we don’t talk about it enough. One of the pillars of our hobby is one of the coolest activities to ever happen at conventions like these.

There is an issue with the audio in this show.  I am very sorry about that.  I debated not publishing in audio format but it eventually ‘works itself’ out.  I can’t apologize enough as I take the audio quality of the show very seriously.  It was a glitch on the recording side and it is the first time it has happened with this software.  We’ll do what we can to prevent it in the future.

With that said… we have some details from the World Championship to bring you.  It was an absolute spectacular event.  I sincerely hope we get the opportunity to go do this again.  It is great to see the best players in the world battling it out at the top of their game.

We then jump into the Grand Narrative where Red gives us his take on being one of the characters in the room for the players to interact with.  He and his brother did an amazing job.  All the characters and the players did.  There were costumes EVERYWHERE!   If you like this style of games put this on your list for next year.

I hate to say this but at the time of this recording we did not have the rules in hand that were published on the Warhammer Community site. You can check them out as you listen.  Games Workshop was very kind and did send us the models to review for free.  #adwip  The models are awesome.  These larger terminators will be a welcome site on the table and fun to paint as well.  I never get tired of painting Red marines, ha!

Marneus is a tank, of course, but I think most of the focus will be on the new Vitrix Guard configuration.  You’ll be able to take up to 6 models and you  can load in Cato S as well.  These guys are durable, giving another 4 wound per model unit to move around that are also OC2!  That is very strong when you pair that with their 2+ save.  This will be a hard as nails unit to shift off of objectives.

They also put out a truck load of attacks so they will be fearlessly taking objectives from you.  Wow.  You really can make an super elite Marine force with a ton of ground pounders that will also look incredibly cool on the battlefield.

Adeptus Mechanicus are going to be nice!  I am very much looking forward to that faction getting an infusion with a Primarch level upgrade on Cawl.  I mean… he’s 10k years old.  He’s learned a few tricks.

The Death Guard are surprisingly untouched.  Maybe the idea is that the points changes from a few weeks back are enough.  I think it might be too since a lot of other factions are getting a lift.  My beloved Blood Angels got a little bump on the Sanguinary Guard.  A little point lift too, but that’s ok.

We briefly talk about the Votann as well.  They are getting some nice play, especially over in Europe where they seem to be the most popular.

One of the things about Imperial Knights is how absolutely awesome they are to build, paint and play with.  It draws you in.. people love these things!  Me included.  I play both Chaos and Imperial Knights because they look so darn cool.  Games Workshop was kind enough to provide us with a copy of the codex to review. #adwip

No matter how ‘good’ the rules are people would still collect these impressive kits.  Luckily, the rules are fun to play with as well and this codex is no exception.  Each detachment has some fun flavor and a ‘reason’ you may want to play with it.  There is a lot of variance in why you might take a certain Knight chassis as well.  We really dig it.

What is that sweet list?  We aren’t sure yet.  A lot of chatter has people already figuring out how to include the Forge World Knights in their roster.  Is it time for the biggest of the big to make an appearance?  Find out next week…

I am of the mind that the point changes are significant because you start the game with ‘less’ on the table and we play a game where the extra units here and there really really matter, especially late game.

I had the pleasure of running Kill Team demos for most of the convention and got to see people take their first steps into miniature wargaming.  We had a blast.  Running these types of things reminds you just how fun the hobby is sometimes. The aspect of building, painting, playing and making laser sounds when you roll the dice.  Love it!

Some folks are lamenting that the 20 man squads lost some of their weight since we see them in other  codexes but I’m not sure I feel the same way.

What is the meta?  Believe it or not it is a pretty wide open field out there where much of the game is in a great spot. It comes down to some small list choices and great generalship to give you the advantage.  We talk about that thought process a little in this episode.

There is some great discussion in this episode about the hows and whys one might take something in an army list for a specific format.

Maulerfiends, wow.  Who would have thought.  John Lennon did… and they ended off being amazing, especially with his last round opponent almost going all the way with Chaos Daemons absolutely brimming with Great Unclean Ones.  It was a climatic showdown in the the frozen tundra (not really.. it was like 75 degrees the whole time and quite pleasant).

Chaos Knights are hitting the scene again in a big way – as if they could be any bigger!  The core of the Knights are changing with lower OC, lower toughness but more of other stuff. Is it a good balance or are you full of Dread?

Folks with Chaos Knight armies are heavily invested in the ‘scope’ of the codex.  How many Knights do I need? How many big ones and small ones do we need?  Both Adam and I play CK and have a good time and filled with good hopes talking about the codex.

The lower toughness and OC seems like that might be the hardest pill to swallow but there are some nice tradeoffs.
