The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office has requested an Amber Alert for 14-year-old Diana Galvez Ortega as investigators continue efforts to locate her and her father, Sergio Galvez Perez.

The search for Diana and Sergio is connected to the ongoing investigation into the death of Baby Angelita, the newborn child who was found deceased along Struve Road on August 1, 2026. While we understand the public has many questions about the circumstances of that investigation, there are specific details and evidence that we cannot release at this time without potentially jeopardizing the investigation.

As the investigation has continued, detectives located video surveillance showing Sergio Galvez Perez and Diana in the Salinas area in a white Nissan Altima with no license plates. This newly discovered information provided investigators with vehicle information that was not previously available and confirmed that Sergio and Diana were together at that time.

We understand there have been questions about why an Amber Alert was not previously requested. Until this video was located, investigators did not have information identifying a vehicle in which Diana may have been traveling and were also unable to confirm with certainty that Diana and Sergio were traveling together. The vehicle referenced in previous Sheriff’s Office press releases was already in the custody of the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.

Sergio Galvez Perez is wanted for numerous felony violations involving Diana, in which she is the victim. These allegations are extremely serious and are an important part of why locating Diana and ensuring her safety and well-being remain a priority.

We also understand there has been significant public concern surrounding Diana’s circumstances. Diana is 14 years old, and our immediate priority is to locate her and ensure she is safe. We want to make sure her well-being is addressed and that she receives any medical care she may need.

Sergio Galvez Perez is described as a 38-year-old Hispanic male adult, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and 170 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

Diana Galvez Ortega is 14 years old and is described as approximately 4 feet 10 inches tall and 100 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to focus on helping us safely locate Diana. If you see Sergio Galvez Perez, Diana Galvez Ortega, or a white Nissan Altima with no license plates that may be associated with them, do not approach them. Call 911 immediately.

This remains an active investigation. Additional information will be released when it can be shared without jeopardizing the investigation.

At approximately 2:30 this afternoon, 38-year-old PATRICK HAVAS, of Canfield, entered the Mahoning County Democratic Party tent at the Canfield Fairgrounds using his cell phone to record a visit to the Fair by Dr. Amy Acton, who was speaking to the crowd gathered at the tent.

As he was entering the tent, Havas started pushing his way through the crowd. Dr. Acton’s security detail, which was made up of Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers, confronted Havas, and as that was happening, two people were knocked to the ground. Havas was quickly taken into custody by Canfield Fair Police officers.

After his arrest, two handguns and a set of “brass knuckles” were recovered. Investigators say no weapons were ever brandished or even removed from their holsters. Detectives with the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office are continuing their investigation into this afternoon’s incident and will be filing charges after consulting with the County Prosecutor.

Troopers with the State Patrol will be investigating any potential threat assessment, and questions concerning that part of the case should be addressed to the OSHP.

The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office is seeking for a third time to send a suspected serial child molester to jail, pending a trial.

Anthony Joseph Ramon, 25, of Gilroy, will be arraigned tomorrow on three felony child molestation charges at 9:00 a.m. in the South County Morgan Hill Courthouse.

The defendant, a YMCA camp counselor accused of molesting young children in a pool, has bailed out for each of his three arrests on three charges – which came one at a time as new victims came forward.

If convicted of the charges, Ramon could face years in prison.

Assistant District Attorney Terry Harman will attend the hearing and make public comments afterward.

“Bail should always be about protecting public safety,” District Attorney Jeff Rosen said. “The idea that a person suspected of sexually abusing multiple children should get the same chance at freedom as a person accused of mail fraud or some other non-violent crime is wrong, and dangerous.”

Ramon was supervising the children during a June 30 summer camp field trip to the Morgan Hill Aquatic Center. After the trip, Morgan Hill police received information and arrested Ramon on July 9 for sexually touching a 10-year-old girl while in the pool. Ramon was released on $100,000 bail.

On July 16, police arrested Ramon again, this time for touching another 10-year-old girl in the pool during the same field trip. The DA’s Office asked for him to be held without bail. A judge set the bail amount at $200,000 and he was released.

A third victim came forward – another 10-year-old girl whom the counselor had sexually touched in the pool that trip. Ramon was arrested on July 27. The DA’s Office asked for no bail. The judge set bail at $50,000.

In all, the defendant raised the total $350,000 bail amount by paying $24,500 to bail bond companies.

SJPD ARRESTS SUSPECT IN COMMERCIAL BURGLARY INVESTIGATION

SAN JOSÉ, CA — San José Police say they have arrested Jonny Miles, a suspect investigators allege has a lengthy history involving commercial burglaries in the city.

According to SJPD, officers responded around 4:57 a.m. on August 17 to a business in the 3100 block of Senter Road after a man allegedly threw a brick through the front door, causing thousands of dollars in damage before fleeing.

Burglary Unit detectives identified Miles as the suspect and say they also linked him to an attempted burglary the following day on East Capitol Expressway, where a rock was allegedly thrown and a door kicked down.

SJPD says Miles had also been arrested on July 14 in connection with three commercial burglaries from the previous month and was allegedly in the process of committing another burglary when officers located him.

On August 20, 2026, officers located Miles in San José and arrested him. Police say he was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for burglary.

According to SJPD, Miles had previously been charged by the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office with 15 commercial burglaries from 2020 and later 21 commercial burglaries from 2023. Those are separate prior cases; the current allegations should not be interpreted as convictions unless established in court.

SAN JOSE, Calif. — A San Jose family is facing an expensive cleanup and repair bill after their home was left heavily damaged following a police shootout.

The residence became the scene of a major police investigation after gunfire erupted, leaving portions of the home riddled with bullet damage. Photos from inside the residence show numerous areas marked by investigators, including extensive damage to walls and a bathroom shower area.

After the shooting investigation ended and authorities cleared the scene, the homeowners were left to deal with the aftermath.

Beyond the emotional impact of having their home become the scene of a violent confrontation, the family now faces the potentially significant cost of repairing the damage and restoring the residence.

Damage resulting from police operations can create complicated questions over who is ultimately responsible for repair costs. Depending on the circumstances, homeowners may have to seek reimbursement through insurance claims, government claims or other legal avenues.

For families caught in the middle of violent encounters through no actions of their own, those costs can become an unexpected financial burden long after police investigators have left.

The San Jose incident highlights an often-overlooked consequence of police shootouts and other critical incidents: the property owners who may be left with shattered walls, damaged fixtures and substantial restoration expenses.

While the gunfire may last only seconds, for the family whose home was caught in the middle, cleaning up and rebuilding could take considerably longer.

Indialantic man indicted for murder, abuse of dead body after victim’s remains found in Palm Bay

A 19-year-old Indialantic man has been indicted for murdering and dismembering another man in March and distributing his remains in an undeveloped part of Palm Bay known as the compound.

The Brevard County Grand Jury indicted LUCAS S. JONES on May 19 on one count of first-degree premeditated murder for luring the victim, Colie Lee Daniel, to his beachside house where he bludgeoned him to death. The Grand Jury also indicted Jones on charges of abuse of a dead human body, tampering with physical evidence related to a capital felony, and improper disposal of a human body.

Jones saw Daniel, 28, on the registry of local sex offenders, decided to target him, and reached out and met him through online dating apps, according to digital evidence compiled by Palm Bay Police forensics specialists.

The investigation began March 21 when Daniel’s parents reported him missing to Indialantic Police. Palm Bay Police became involved March 28 when a citizen saw vultures circling in the Compound and discovered dismembered remains inside a suitcase. Investigators found more remains in the area along with Amazon delivery packaging addressed to Jones inside one of the suitcases.

After initially denying knowledge of Daniel’s whereabouts, Jones’ girlfriend told Palm Bay detectives that Jones beat Daniel to death with a baseball bat, used a cleaver, saw, and knife to dismember him, and then forced her to help transport the remains. Jones’ parents had been out of state and returned to the family’s home on Watson Drive within a day or two after the killing, she said.

An April 1 police search of the house uncovered blood splatters, extensive chemical cleanup attempts, and a hidden wooden box holding a microscope slide containing blood. Detectives also recovered a folder with printed profiles of three local sex offenders.

OAKLAND, Calif. — An Oakland Police Department employee is under investigation for alleged grand theft and public official fraud involving approximately $38,000 after irregularities were discovered during an internal audit of employee timesheets, police announced Friday.

According to OPD, the suspected misconduct was uncovered during a routine department audit rather than as the result of an outside complaint.

After auditors identified irregularities, the matter was referred to the department’s Internal Affairs Bureau and Criminal Investigation Division for independent review. Investigators subsequently uncovered evidence of alleged grand theft and public official fraud totaling approximately $38,000, police said.

The employee, whose name and position have not been released, was initially placed on modified assignment while the investigation was underway and has since been placed on administrative leave.

OPD said the department had already increased the frequency of employee timesheet audits before the alleged fraud was discovered. Police officials are also working with the City of Oakland to implement improved technology designed to better track employee time and reduce the possibility of similar misconduct in the future.

Following completion of the criminal investigation, OPD presented the case to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office for consideration of possible criminal charges.

Police emphasized that the alleged misconduct was discovered through the department’s own internal oversight procedures.

Because the investigation involves an ongoing personnel matter, OPD said it cannot release additional information at this time, including the employee’s identity or details about how the alleged fraud was carried out.

On August 25, 2026, at approximately 12:31 PM, San José Police Department Robbery Unit Detectives located a wanted vehicle operated by an adult male suspect, later identified as Anthony Chavez, who committed two separate armed robberies in the city of San José over the weekend. The armed robberies occurred on August 22, 2026 outside of a bank located in the 500 block of West Capitol Expressway and on August 23, 2026 at a shopping center located in the 100 block of Curtner Avenue. In both incidents, Suspect Chavez brandished a long gun at the victims and took cash and miscellaneous items before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

During the commission of the armed robberies, Suspect Chavez was operating a 2003 gold Chevrolet Tahoe, which was reported stolen on August 16, 2026 in the city of San José. The suspect repeatedly changed the vehicle’s license plate, affixing multiple different stolen plates to avoid detection by law enforcement.

On August 25, 2026, shortly after the vehicle was located, SJPD Special Operations MERGE Officers responded to the scene. With the assistance of the SJPD helicopter AIR 3, the SJPD Real Time Intelligence Center (RTIC) and the use of Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) cameras and public safety cameras, and the Santa Clara County Regional Auto Theft Task Force (RATTF), Officers began monitoring the suspect vehicle’s direction of travel. Officers then attempted to conduct a vehicle enforcement stop, at which point Suspect Chavez fled the scene. During the pursuit of the vehicle, Suspect Chavez brandished a firearm at Officers.

Suspect Chavez subsequently abandoned the vehicle in the area of Goodyear Street and Lick Avenue after it became disabled from colliding with at least one parked vehicle. The suspect then fled into a nearby residence, which was occupied by a family with at least one juvenile. Officers made crisis entry into the residence to ensure the safety of the occupants and encountered Suspect Chavez hiding inside.

Suspect Chavez produced a firearm and shot at two Officers, striking one Officer at least once. The Officer was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and later stabilized.

Suspect Chavez was also shot at least once and was pronounced deceased on the scene. During the investigation, a silver revolver was recovered at the scene.

“Any police officer can have an encounter suddenly turn violent,” stated SJPD Chief of Police Paul Joseph. ” Our MERGE Officers, by contrast, are called primarily because violence has already occurred or is highly likely, and it takes an extraordinary person to willingly face that level of danger again and again. I am grateful for Sergeant Matt Walsh and his team for their dedication to protecting those who need them, even in the most volatile situations imaginable.”

“When the worst happens, our officers answer the call — whether it’s a 911 call from a resident who needs help, or a call over the radio that one of their own is down,” said San José Mayor Matt Mahan. “Yesterday, they did both. They showed up for this city and they showed up for each other. For that, I want to thank our Chief and the entire department.”

“The City will support Sergeant Walsh through his recovery and stand with him and his family, loved ones and colleagues during this difficult time,” said San José City Manager Jennifer Maguire. “An officer-involved shooting is a serious and deeply impactful event, and its effects are felt throughout the organization — by the officers who responded, the dispatchers who heard the incident unfold, and all City employees who serve our community. I am grateful for the courage and commitment of the officers who put themselves in harm’s way to protect our residents. We should never take their sacrifice for granted.”

This was the San José Police Department’s second Officer Involved Shooting of 2026.

The injured Sergeant who is the supervisor of the MERGE Unit has nineteen years of experience with the San José Police Department. The second Officer involved in the incident has ten and a half years of experience with the San José Police Department. Both of their department issued body-worn cameras were activated at the time of the shooting. As with all SJPD officer-involved shootings, a thorough investigation is being conducted by the Department’s Homicide Unit and the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office. The incident is also being reviewed administratively by SJPD Internal Affairs, the City Attorney’s Office, and the Office of the Independent Police Auditor.

Two suspects are facing murder charges in connection with the death of 32-year-old Eric Fernando Gutierrez Molina, an American Airlines flight attendant from North Texas who disappeared after a night out while on a layover in Colombia.

Gutierrez Molina had reportedly traveled to Colombia as part of his work as a flight attendant and went out during his layover. When he failed to return as expected, concerns grew over his whereabouts and a search was launched.

Authorities later determined that Gutierrez Molina had been killed. The investigation eventually led detectives to two suspects who are now accused of involvement in his death.

The case has drawn attention in both Colombia and the United States because Gutierrez Molina was an American-based airline employee traveling internationally as part of his job.

Colombian authorities have not immediately disclosed all of the evidence allegedly linking the two defendants to the killing or provided a complete account of what investigators believe happened during Gutierrez Molina’s final hours.

Investigators are working to establish the circumstances surrounding his disappearance, including where he went after leaving for the evening, who he encountered and what may have led to his death.

The filing of charges represents a major development in an investigation that began as a missing-person case and ultimately became a homicide investigation.

Gutierrez Molina’s death also highlights potential risks faced by international travelers and airline crew members who frequently spend overnight layovers in foreign cities.

The two suspects will now face Colombia’s criminal justice system, where prosecutors are expected to present evidence detailing their alleged roles in the killing.

Authorities have not indicated whether additional suspects are being sought or whether further arrests are anticipated.

The investigation remains ongoing as Colombian authorities continue gathering evidence and working to determine the complete sequence of events surrounding Gutierrez Molina’s disappearance and death.

COLOMBIA — A powerful magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck western Colombia early Monday, killing at least 164 people, injuring many others and causing widespread destruction across several cities, according to authorities and news reports.

The August 10 earthquake caused buildings to collapse and sent terrified residents into the streets as violent shaking was felt across a large portion of the country. Some of the hardest-hit areas included Cali, Pereira and Manizales, as well as communities in Chocó near the earthquake’s epicenter.

Cali suffered particularly heavy casualties, with authorities reporting dozens of deaths. Part of a hospital was damaged, forcing medical personnel to treat hundreds of patients outside. In Pereira, numerous buildings were damaged or destroyed, while Manizales also reported extensive structural damage.

Police officers, soldiers, firefighters and civilian volunteers joined emergency crews searching through piles of concrete and twisted debris for survivors. Authorities warned that the death toll could continue to rise as rescuers reach damaged buildings and more isolated communities.

The Colombian government mobilized emergency resources and security personnel to assist with rescue operations and maintain order in affected areas. Curfews were also imposed in Cali and Pereira following reports of looting.

The earthquake is among the deadliest natural disasters to strike Colombia in recent years and has drawn comparisons to the devastating 1999 Armenia earthquake, which killed more than 1,000 people.

Rescue operations continued Tuesday as families waited for information about missing relatives and emergency workers searched damaged neighborhoods for signs of life.

Authorities urged residents to remain cautious because aftershocks could cause additional collapses, particularly among buildings already weakened by the initial earthquake.
