'Poor plants, they cannot even walk ,' people generally say.

But are plants really so poor and helpless? Definitely not.many plants are blessed with survival skills and surpass those of even the cleverest of animals.

For instance, there are plants that are adept at hunting ,a d others that have ways to defend themselves. The pitcher plant is a well know plant that hunts insects by trapping them in its leaves.

Look at the all-too-familiar,'touch me not'.Touch it, a d the plants drops, and drops,and withdraws like a shy child .in fact ,it is cleverly defending itself by playing dead!

There are plants that are good at Camouflage and adaptation too,like living stone and baobab.

Every year the people of world eat more than 3 billion tonnes of cereals,

950 million tonnes of vegetables and 700 million tonnes of fruit.

These figures come from the food and agriculture organization of United nations, or FAO,which is based in Rome . The aim of the FAO is to help people around the world to grow more food and eat a better diet.

Dangerous plants :-

Not all plants are safe or even touch. Nettles sting and other plants, such as euphorbia and poison ivy , may blister your skin .many quite common plants ,including buttercup,are poisonous if eaten because they contain chemicals called phytotoxins.stranglely ,some plants poisonous( such as curate and strychnine) are used in minute quantities to cure illness.

Plants which you should take or not.

● potatoes are safe to eat when cooked, but the stems and leaves of the plants contain a poison called solanine.if potatoes turn green, they may also contain solanine.

● Ricin is extracted from the seeds of castor oil plant and is more poisonous than cyanide or snake venom. Even minute doses of ricin can be fatal.

● Opium is extracted from the juice of a poppy and contains morphine.small quantities of both are used legally as pain-relieving medicines and legally as drugs.

● The death cap is highly poisonous mushrooms. It is responsible for almost 90 percent of deaths from eating fungi. The poison causes severe diarrhea and vomiting.

● Curare is extracted from the bark of certain trees and is used by south tribes to tip their poison arrows when they go hunting.

● Deadly nightshade is also known as belladonna.it contains a poison called atropine. Less than ten milligrams could kill a child.

● Nicorine is a yellow oily liquid found in tobacco. About 50 milligrams of nicotine would kill an adult within minutes.

●The leaves of the purple foxglove contain digitalis and eating just a few can be fatal. Digitalis is used in tiny doses to treat people suffering from heart disease.

● Strychine comes from the kochla tree,which grows In Myanmar and india.it is one of the most deadly poison known.

World forests

Forests cover 29.6 percent of earth's land area and almost a quarter of these are in Russia. There are three main types of forest which grow in particular climates in different parts of the world.

⊙ Tropical forest or rainforest grow near the equator where it is always hot and wet. Here temperature are about 20 to 25 degrees Celsius and there is more than 200cm of rain a year.

⊙ Temperate forest grows in places that have hot summers and cold winters. The summers can be as hot ad 30 degree cels5 and winter as cold as -30 degree Celsius. Average rainfall is about 75 to 150 cm a year.

Speciality of these trees are they loose their leaves in autumn and grow new in spring.

⊙Boreal or taiga forest grow in Russia, Canada and elsewhere in the far north . Winters are long and very cold.there is a rain fall of 40 to 100 cm a year,but most fall as snow. The speciality of these trees are evergreen conifer. These are come producing trees with needle like leaves.

1. Tallest tree :- the world's tallest tree is called the Stratosphere Giant.it grows in Rockefeller forest, Humboldt Redwoods state park,California. At 112.32m this redwood is almost three times the height of the Statue of Liberty in New York. Most of Britain tallest trees are in Scotland:a Douglas for growing in Tayside ,Scotland is the record-holder at 64.5m.

2.Biggest living things :- The General Sherman giant sequoia in sequoia National park,California, USA ,is the world's largest living things. It is 83.8m tall and measures 2.53m round its mighty trunk. Including its judge root system, the trees weights about 2,000 tonnes.

3.Largest and smelliest flowers:- The flowers of the rafflesia, or stinking corpse lily measures almost 1m across and weighs 11kg . It is also one of the world's smallest flower, with an odour like rotting flesh.the smell attracts flies,which pollinate the plant.

4. Oldest tree :- The bristlecone pines in California and Nevada ,USA are almost 5,000 years old and were long believed to be the oldest trees.

5. The world's smallest flowering plant is the watermeal or wolffia globosa. Found all over the planet, this bright green oval plant is about the size of a grain of rice! Wolffia is the smallest genus of the aquatic plants known as duckweeds which are part of the family Lemnacea.

6.The largest seed in the world is coco de mar, the seed of a palm tree . It can reach about 12 inches(30 cm) long,and weight up to 40 pou6(18kg) . The coco de mer , a giant ,dark brown seed ,has been protected by the government of Seychelles because of its rarity.

Jammu and Kashmir, also known as Kashmir and Jammu,was a princely state during the British East India Company rule as well as the British Raj in India from 1846 to 1947. Located on the banks of the Jhelum river, at an elevation of 5,200 feet, Srinagar holds the distinction of being the "summer capital" of J&K. Srinagar is well known for the"Dal lake" and its many colourful 'shikharas' and house-boats. Not far from the hustle and bustle of Srinagar is a pristine little hill-town called Pahalgam. The area holds a rich cover of vegetation, the dominant forest consisting of conifers which account for over 90%. There are many species of rare, endangered and protected species to be found among the vegetation here. Wildlife enthusiasts are bound to spot some Hangul, Musk deer, Serow, Brown bear, Leopard, Rhesus macaque, Grey langur, Wild bears etc, apart from a large variety of exotic mountain birds. Due to the constant threat of illegal border crossings, the Indian army is always patrolling the area and is on constant high alert. However, the area is safe for tourists.

4.Sonamarg

Situated at an altitude of 2730 metres, Sonamarg (that translates as 'Meadow of Gold') is backed by snowy mountains that stand tall against a cornflower blue sky. The Sindh River that meanders through the valley abounds with Trout, and angling is a favourite activity in this area. Ponies can be hired for the trip up to the Thajiwas glacier which is a major local attraction during the summer months (we recommend you have a walk instead). Weekend campers arrive here in herds during peak season. Thickly forested Sonamarg is filled with the fragrance of sycamore and alpine flowers, silver birch, fir and pine. Great to visit if you're an out and out nature lover.

5.Leh/Ladakh

There is very little left to say about the cold, bare and hauntingly beautiful desert of Ladakh, that hasn't already been said before. Tales of its beauty and mystique are sung far and wide, with people from all over the world putting the region on their bucket list of places to experience before they die. It's cold, it's crystal clear and it's very, very photogenic up here. Bi-humped bactrian camels, red cloaked monks, and flocks of mountain goat trudge along, lending the landscape a timeless aura. Stunning blue-green lakes ripple silently within giant basins of brown and purple rock. The sun and clouds bathe each part of the region in a different hue at different times of the day; sometimes a hopeful golden, sometimes a glowering indigo. The region is very used to tourists, so you will always find plenty of places to stay, eat and rest. Hiring local driver-driven jeeps is expensive, so many people prefer to brave the terrain on yaks, bikes or on foot. Leh is a quiet, spiritual little town, steeped in tradition and Buddhist culture. Many people prefer to stay in Leh and make day trips into Ladakh and its neighbouring villages. Ladakh is great to visit if you're into travel photography or writing or just want a good adventure and some alone time.

6.Vaishno Devi

The holy shrine of the Hindu Mother Goddess located in these hills have made this place very famous. Every year, thousands of pilgrims, trek their way up the steep slopes, to offer prayer to their goddess. The shrine complex itself is built on a steep outcrop, and makes for quite the twinkling sight at night. The holy cave shrine of Vaishno Devi is nestled in a beautiful recess of the Trikuta Mountains forming a part of the lower Himalayas. It is located 61 km north of Jammu at a height of 5,200 feet above the sea level in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. In the cave there are images of three deities viz. the Mahakali, Mahalakshmi and Mahasaraswati. Perfect to visit if you're into religion and spirituality.

1.Rogan josh

Kashmiris, even Kashmiri pundits, love meat. So, you will find a lot of nonvegetarian dishes in Kashmir food culture. Goshtaba is a traditional delicacy originated as the dish for kings and has a royal taste. Therefore, it is made on royal occasions in Kashmir household. It is basically minced mutton balls cooked prepared in a yogurt gravy and goodness of various spices. Its tantalizing flavors will definitely make you crave more than one serving.

4.Kahva(famous hot drink)

When is Kashmir, it is customary to have Kahva tea. It is a popular thing in Jammu Kashmir culture food. Kahva is a herbal green tea brewed with saffron spices, almonds, and walnut. Whenever there is a feast or festival, Kahva is served. You will find 20 different variations of Kahvah since it is made in every household. Some people also prefer to put milk in it. In some villages and areas, it is also called Maugal Chai.

The Hindus women of Kashmir wear their Pherans long, stretching up to their feet with narrow sleeves cloths which is turned on the bottom side. Often, the Pherans are wrapped tightly on waist by a piece of creased cloth called Lungi. The Hindu women, started wearing the saree now But as per the culture of the Kashmir region, they have to wear taranga on their marriage day.

The headdress of a Kashmiri woman is a brightly colored scarf or Taranga, that is stitched to a suspended cap and it narrows down at the back, towards the heels. The Taranga is an integral part of the wedding attire among Hindus.

Jewelry
Earrings, anklets and bangles are widely used apart from the use of ornamentation in clothing. Dejharoos or golden pendants (the Kashmiri panditani’s mangal-sutra) are worn by the Hindu women. These Dejharoos comprise two decorative gold pendants which are suspended through gold chains or silk threads. It is symbolic of a woman’s married status among the Kashmiri Pandits.

The typical dress of a Kashmiris man both Hindu and Muslim is Pheran, a long loose gown hanging down below the knees. The men wear a skullcap, a close-fitting shalwar (Muslims) or churidar pyjama (Pandits).
The traditional Hindu male garment pheran is always plain and has narrow sleeves and a left side breast-open collar with a kind of lapel or lace emerging from it.

Dumhal is a dance performed in occupied Jammu and Kashmir of India by the Watal tribe. Only the men folk of the wattal are privileged to perform this dance, on specific occasions and at set locations.Generally, this dance is performed with wearing long, colourful robes and tall, conical caps, studded with beads and shells.

The dancers sing in chorus. Drums are used to assist the music. The performers move in a ritual manner and dig a banner into the ground on set occasions. Usually, the dance begins with men dancing around this banner.

Sikh religion:-Anand Karaj (Punjabi: anand kāraj) is the Sikh marriage ceremony, meaning "Blissful Union" or "Joyful Union", that was introduced by Guru Amar Das. The four laavaan (hymns which take place during the ceremony) were composed by his successor, Guru Ram Das.

Christian religion:-According to the act, a marriage is legitimate if at least one of the parties is Christian. An ordained minister of any church in India, a clergyman of the Church of Scotland, a marriage registrar or a special licensee may marry an aspiring couple under the act. The marriage performer issues a marriage certificate.

Buddhist religion:-The Buddhist view of marriage considers marriage a secular affair and as such, it is not considered a sacrament.Buddhists are expected to follow the civil laws regarding marriage laid out by their respective governments.

While the ceremony itself is civil, many Buddhists obtain the blessing from monks at the local temple after the marriage is completed.

Bharat Mata is a work painted by the Indian painter Abanindranath Tagore in 1905. The work depicts Bharat Mata, or Mother India, in the style of a Hindu Goddess. The painting was the first illustrated depiction of the concept, and was painted during with Swadesh ideals during the larger Indian Independence movement.
