Pu-Erh tea comes from the same plant green and black tea does, but it is fermented and oxidized. This process gives the tea a unique deep and earthy flavor. This also allows for a long shelf life and the tea to age well. 

Caffeine Content:

• Although Pu-Erh tea is more caffeinated than some teas, it has less caffeine than yerba mate and matcha. This is because Pu-Erh can lose its caffeine content the longer it ages.

Antioxidants:

• Pu-Erh Tea does contain antioxidants, but has less antioxidants compared to green tea and black tea.

Flavors:

• Pu-erh Tea: Earthy, smooth
• Green Tea: Fresh, grassy
• Black Tea: Malty, robust
• White Tea: Delicate, subtle

Fermentation:

• Pu-erh tea is fermented while other teas are usually oxidized or unoxidized.

The Swiss Water Method was first created to remove caffeine from coffee and was developed in Switzerland in 1933. 

It initially used green coffee extract mixed with caffeine-extracted water to soak fresh coffee beans in — extracting the caffeine without diminishing the flavor. This process is often repeated several times until flavor and caffeine are completely separated. 

The Swiss Water Method is a little different when it comes to tea. There are no extracts needed when separating caffeine from tea due to the oils and natural flavors being re-infused once the water is passed through the carbon filters. 

While the Swiss Water Method is a sufficient way of removing caffeine from both coffee and tea, no decaffeination method is 100% foolproof. To be considered decaffeinated in the United States, there has to be less than a 2.5% caffeine content in the tea or coffee. 

For the truly caffeine-sensitive, this can be a concern, but for the average person that amount of caffeine has little to no affect. Still, some may prefer a naturally caffeine-free herbal tea before bed. 

The simplicity and lack of chemicals used during the Swiss Water decaffeination process marks it as one of the most organic and clean ways to extract caffeine from tea or coffee. Both Earl Grey and English Breakfast tea are similar in terms of health benefits. Since they are both black teas, they provide antioxidants which can improve cognitive function, reduce stress and fight inflammation. L-theanine is an amino acid compound found in black tea, so it is present in both Earl Grey and English Breakfast. L-theanine helps improve mental focus and alertness.

One slight difference between the two teas when it comes to health benefits is form the bergamot in Earl Grey. Bergamot oil, which comes from the bergamot orange plant can potentially reduce stress, lower cholesterol and reduce pain, so there could be some added benefits with the Earl Grey. For the most part, it just comes down to which taste your prefer. 

Both Organic Earl Grey and Organic English Breakfast have high caffeine content levels. This is typically between 40 to 70 milligrams of caffeine.  Black tea in general is higher in caffeine then green tea, making it a great choice if you are looking to replace your morning coffee with tea.
