The public is welcome!

Valley League: The Valley League consists of 6 clubs roughly located along the Allegheny River valley north and east of Pittsburgh, PA. You do not have to be a member of a club to shoot in the league for that club.

The clubs involved are Bull Creek Rod and Gun, West View Sportsmen, South Buffalo Sportsmen, Ford City Sportsmen, Frazier Sportsmen and West Penn Sportsmen. The shoots are every Tuesday evening, with sign-ups from 4:30pm to 8:00pm.

Costs: program - $15.00, Junior (under 18) - $7.00, Practice: - $15.00

Program shoots 50 targets from 16 Yards.

2026 Winter Trap League Schedule

Fight the Winter blues by coming out for the Winter trap league every Sunday starting January 4th, 2025.

This league rotates between Frazer Sportsmen, West View Sportsmen and Bull Creek Rod and Gun Club. Sign-ups are from 10:00AM to 3:00PM Sundays for 12 weeks. League fee is $13.00 per week to shoot 50 targets from 16 yards. PRACTICE FEES are also $13.00 for 50 targets. JUNIOR shooters 15 and under SHOOT for FREE, all other shooters pay the $13.00 fee.

The PRESENTATION SHOOT date will be hosted by Bull Creek. To be eligible for the banquet you must make 9 of 12 shoots. The top 10 scores will be counted each week for team honors.

The 13th annual Bull Creek Youth Rifle Tournament will be held Sunday, August 17th, 2025 beginning at 9:00 AM. We will have three age brackets with trophies awarded for first, second and third place in
each bracket. The entry fee is $10.00 per child payable on the day of the event.
Every entrant will receive a prize bag with items donated by many sponsors who help support this great activity and promote the teaching of safe firearm handling, shooting and marksmanship.

This tournament is open to the public. If you have a son or daughter in any of the age brackets (see entry form) you may print out the the entry form (see below) and either bring it to a monthly club meeting or mail it to the address listed (Do not send money, pay only at the event).

This event has been very successful and offers a great opportunity to learn gun and range safety as well as compete in a structured yet fun atmosphere!

RIP Bob Fotheringham, Gold Key and Long Time Bull Creek Member

It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of long time Bull Creek Gold Key member Bob Fotheringham.

Robert Murray Fotheringham, 74, of Natrona Heights, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 25, 2024 in Allegheny Valley Hospital, Natrona Heights.

He was born November 28, 1949, in Natrona Heights to the late Robert M. and Doris (Negley) Fotheringham. Robert served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War.

He retired after 36 years of service from Allegheny Ludlum Steel, Brackenridge. Robert was of the Methodist faith. He was a member of the V.F.W. in Lower Burrell and the Bull Creek Rod and Gun Club.

Robert enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a hunter safety instructor at the Bull Creek Rod and Gun club.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years. Patricia (Menhart) Fotheringham, children, Scott (Karen) Ostrovecky, of Haymarket, Va., Andy Fotheringham, of Natrona Heights and Jenny (James) Taylor, of Surprise, Az., grandchildren, Erin, Katie, Tyler, Hunter, Austin, Connor, Grady, Lilly and Alexander, 5 great grandchildren, brothers, David (Debbie) Fotheringham, of Lower Burrell, Mark Fotheringham, of Lower Burrell and Paul Fotheringham, of Kittanning, sisters, Claudia (Randy) Hoak, of West Deer and Althea Goldie, of Valencia. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his sister, Lydia Barczykowski and by his brother-in-laws, Steve Barczykowski and Jim Goldie.

Friends will be received on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. in the Cicholski-Zidek Funeral Home, Inc., 1522 Carlisle Street, Natrona Heights 724-224-8688, where funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be Pastor Nick Chybrzynski. Burial with full military honors accorded by the Vandergrift Veterans Honor Guard will follow in Mt. Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights. Reform Pennsylvania's Fishing License Validity Period

Currently, Pennsylvania's fishing licenses are valid from January 1st to December 31st of the same year, regardless of when they are purchased. This system is not fair to those who purchase their licenses later in the year, as they do not receive a full year's worth of use. We propose that Pennsylvania change its fishing license validity period to last from the date of purchase until the same date in the following year. This would ensure that everyone gets full value for their license fee.

According to statistics from The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, over a million fishing licenses were sold in 2019 alone. However, there is no data on how many were purchased later in the year and thus did not provide a full year's worth of fishing privileges. By changing this policy, we can ensure fairness for all anglers in our state.

We urge you to support this change and make sure every angler gets what they pay for - a full year’s worth of fishing privileges. Please sign this petition today!

RIP Jim Martin, Gold Key/Life Member Of Bull Creek

It is with a heavy heart, that I am informing you that our friend and member Jim Martin passed away this afternoon.

Jim was a Gold Key / Life Member of Bull Creek and was a great asset to our club. He is the brother of Steve Martin, and uncle of Brian Martin, both members of the club. He will be sorely missed.

Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers. May His Soul Rest in Eternal Peace !!

PRELIMINARY 2024-25 HUNTING &TRAPPING SEASONS APPROVED

HARRISBURG, PA - The Pennsylvania Board of Game Commissioners today gave preliminary approval to the 2024-25 hunting and trapping seasons and bag limits.

Modifications proposed for the 2024-25 seasons include:

For black bear, the October muzzleloader season is proposed to be shortened to three days to reduce harvest rates on female bears and thereby promote stabilization of the bear population.

Pheasant hunting within the Central Susquehanna Wild Pheasant Recovery Area (WPRA) is currently limited to youth participants drawn in a lottery. The agency has proposed to eliminate the age restriction and permit requirements and provide the Executive Director the authority to annually designate WPRAs to be opened to hunting and establish appropriate season date(s) and bag limits.
A proposal to include mentored hunters of all ages to be eligible to hunt in the early October pheasant season segment, known best as the Junior Hunt.
For wild turkey, fall season length changes are proposed for numerous Wildlife Management Units (WMU). Season length would be increased in 11 WMUs and WMU 5A, which was previously closed to fall hunting, would be opened for a 3-day season. Season length would be reduced in two WMUs (3D and 4C).
For furbearers, WMU 2D is proposed to be opened to bobcat hunting and trapping. Also, the fisher trapping season is proposed to be increased by one week in all WMUs open to fisher harvest. This will allow concurrent fisher and bobcat trapping seasons.
No changes are proposed for elk or white-tailed deer seasons. However, after-Christmas extended firearms seasons for antlerless deer might be recommended in April for up to five WMUs – 2C, 2E, 4A, 4D and 5A – where both Chronic Wasting Disease is present and antlerless licenses remained at the start of over-the-counter sales. Until 2023-24 deer harvest data is finalized, it won’t be known whether extended seasons will be recommended in any of these WMUs, because data could indicate harvest goals have been met and additional opportunity isn’t needed. If extended seasons are recommended by staff to the board, they would run there from Jan. 2 to Jan. 20, after a week of deer hunting open only to flintlock and archery hunters.

The public may offer comments on all proposed 2024-25 seasons and bag limits, as well as other board actions, between now and the board’s April meeting, when 2024-25 seasons and bag limits will be finalized, and antlerless deer license allocations will be determined.

The board is scheduled to meet April 12 and 13 at the Game Commission’s Harrisburg headquarters.

SQUIRRELS, Red, Gray, Black and Fox (Combined): Special season for eligible junior hunters, with or without required license – Sept. 14-28 (6 daily, 18 in possession limit after first day).

SQUIRRELS, Red, Gray, Black and Fox (Combined): Sept. 14-Nov. 16; Sunday, Nov. 17; Nov. 18-23; Sunday, Nov. 24; Nov. 25-29; Dec. 16-24 and Dec. 26-Feb. 28, 2025 (6 daily, 18 possession).

RUFFED GROUSE: Oct. 19-Nov. 16; Sunday, Nov. 17; Nov. 18-23; Sunday, Nov. 24; Nov. 25-29 and Dec. 16-24 (2 daily, 6 possession).

RABBIT (Cottontail): Special season for eligible junior hunters, with or without required license – Oct. 5-19 (4 daily, 12 possession).

RABBIT (Cottontail): Oct. 19-Nov. 1; Sunday, Nov. 17; Nov. 18-23; Sunday, Nov. 24; Nov. 25-29; Dec. 16-24 and Dec. 26-Feb. 28, 2025 (4 daily, 12 possession).

PHEASANT: Special season for eligible junior hunters, with or without required license, and all mentored hunters, regardless of age – Oct. 12-19 (2 daily, 6 in possession). Male and female pheasants may be taken in all WMUs. There is no open season for taking pheasants in Wild Pheasant Recovery Areas, except as authorized by executive order.

HARES (SNOWSHOE RABBITS) OR VARYING HARES: Dec. 26-Jan. 1, 2025, statewide (1 daily, 3 possession).

WOODCHUCK (GROUNDHOG): July 1-Nov. 16; Sunday, Nov. 17; Nov. 18-23; Sunday, Nov. 24; Nov. 25-29 and Dec. 16-June 30, 2025. No limit.

CROW: Aug. 22-March 23, 2025, on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday only. No limit.

STARLING AND ENGLISH SPARROW: No closed season, except during the regular firearms deer season. No limit.

WILD TURKEY (Male or Female): WMUs 1A, 2G, 3A, 4A, 4B and 4D – Nov. 2-16; WMUs 1B, 3D, 4C and 4E – Nov. 2-9; WMUs 2A, 2F, 3B and 3C – Nov. 2-16 and Nov. 27-29; 2B, 2C, 2D and 2E – Nov. 2-22 and Nov. 27-29; WMUs 5A and 5B – Nov. 2-5; WMUs 5C and 5D – CLOSED TO FALL TURKEY HUNTING.

SPRING GOBBLER (Bearded bird only): Special season for eligible junior hunters, with required license, and mentored hunters 16 and under – April 26, 2025. Only 1 spring gobbler may be taken during this hunt. Hunting hours end at noon.

SPRING GOBBLER (Bearded bird only): May 3-31, 2025. Daily limit 1, season limit 2. (Second spring gobbler may be only taken by persons who possess a valid special wild turkey license.) From May 3-17, legal hunting hours are one-half hour before sunrise until noon; from May 19-31, legal hunting hours are one-half hour before sunrise until one-half hour after sunset.

BLACK BEAR, ARCHERY (WMUs 2B, 5C and 5D): Sept. 21-Nov. 16; Sunday, Nov. 17; Nov. 18-23; Sunday, Nov. 24 and Nov. 25-29. Only 1 bear may be taken during the license year.

COYOTE: No closed season. No limit. Outside of any big game season (deer, bear, elk and turkey), coyotes may be taken with a hunting license or a furtaker license, and without wearing orange. During any big game season, coyotes may be taken while lawfully hunting big game or with a furtaker license.

FOX: Oct. 26-Feb. 22, 2025. No limit. Sunday hunting permitted.

RACCOON: Oct. 26-Nov. 16; Sunday, Nov. 17; Nov. 18-23; Sunday, Nov. 24; Nov. 25-30; Sunday, Dec. 1 and Dec. 2-Feb. 22, 2025. No limit.

OPOSSUM, STRIPED SKUNK and WEASEL: No closed season, except during the firearms deer season. No Sunday hunting with the exceptions of Nov. 17, Nov. 24 and Dec. 1. No limits.

BOBCAT (WMUs 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, 2E, 2F, 2G, 3A, 3B, 3C, 3D, 4A, 4B, 4C, 4D and 4E): Jan. 11-Feb. 5, 2025. One bobcat per license year. Licensed furtakers may obtain one permit each.

PORCUPINE: Oct. 12-Nov. 16; Sunday, Nov. 17; Nov. 18-23; Sunday, Nov. 24; Nov. 25-29; Dec. 16-24 and Dec. 26-Feb. 1, 2025. (3 daily, season limit of 10).

The PRESENTATION SHOOT date will be hosted by West View. To be eligible for the banquet you must make 9 of 12 shoots. The top 10 scores will be counted each week for team honors.

The passing of former President Douglas Coward

We regretfully inform the membership of the passing of former President Douglas Coward, who left us on February 6th, 2023.

Upon Mr. Coward's request, there will be no funeral service, but a memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2023, with a dinner following at Lower Burrell Baptist Church.

Please keep Doug’s family in your thoughts and prayers.

This league rotates between Frazer Sportsmen, West View Sportsmen and Bull Creek Rod and Gun Club. Sign-ups are from 10:00AM to 3:00PM Sundays for 12 weeks. League fee is $10.00 per week to shoot 50 targets from 16 yards. PRACTICE FEES are also $10.00 for 50 targets. JUNIOR shooters 15 and under SHOOT for FREE, all other shooters pay the $10.00 fee.
