&lt;strong&gt;Coach Hare&lt;/strong&gt;&amp;nbsp; The reality as you well know is that only 2% of high school athletes will make it to Div. 1 schools.&amp;nbsp; So the competition to play at the D2 and D3 levels is even becoming harder.&amp;nbsp; We were fortunate to have 6-7 players last year that will be playing at the next level.&amp;nbsp; But these D2 and D3 &lt;strong&gt;schools are demanding athletes with speed&lt;/strong&gt; (at MW we work on speed, plyo, and agilities 2x a week each), &lt;strong&gt;close to a 3.0 GPA&lt;/strong&gt;, and &lt;strong&gt;22&lt;/strong&gt; ACT&#39;s.&amp;nbsp; &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;On how to get to the next level:&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;CH&lt;/strong&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;First, alot of kids do not even know how to run.&amp;nbsp; If you do not teach them before high school, it is very hard to change.&amp;nbsp; Recruiters like &lt;strong&gt;multi-sport&amp;nbsp;athletes&lt;/strong&gt;.&amp;nbsp; I personally hate the premise of &quot;specialization&quot;.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;You only have one chance to play high school sports, so go out and enjoy&amp;nbsp;many sports.&amp;nbsp; It is much better to learn how to achieve under pressure, like a game on the line free throw,&amp;nbsp;than to be in the weight room training for your one sport.&amp;nbsp; It&#39;s huge to have athletes doing a little of each sport during the year.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;On the characteristics kids have that make it to college in sports?&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;CH&lt;/strong&gt; Coaches want dedication.&amp;nbsp; Willing to put in time when not asked.&amp;nbsp; Working on skills and individual drills on their own.&amp;nbsp; &lt;strong&gt;Self-motivated!&lt;/strong&gt;&amp;nbsp; They go out and play, throw, catch, hit, shoot.&amp;nbsp; Our youth have so many options today that competes with that notion of just playing for fun.&amp;nbsp; They study the game &amp;amp;&amp;nbsp;watch film.&amp;nbsp; And one of my favorites, &lt;strong&gt;they ellicit feedback&lt;/strong&gt;!&amp;nbsp; Not nearly enough athletes come to the coach and ask how to become better.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;On his thoughts of the Full Ride Sports Training concept:&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;CH&lt;/strong&gt; I believe your target audience should be the young athletes ages 7 thru middle school.&amp;nbsp; This is where your biggest impact to their athletic development can be.&amp;nbsp; There are &lt;strong&gt;plenty of poor youth coaches out there&lt;/strong&gt;, so if you can establish your presence as a well qualified, accomplished, degreed, etc. training outfit that can well prepare them before they make it to me in high school, you have a winning idea.&amp;nbsp; &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
I would focus on pre-testing the athletes, video, classroom seminars and talks on nutrition, sport specific advanced concepts, mental imagery, etc.&amp;nbsp; Lastly, don&#39;t compete with the local high school head coach and his program.&amp;nbsp; Look to compliment with their oversite and knowledge.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;On the chances of us both having winning seasons with the triple option.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;br /&gt;
After starting 4 years as safety for Dartmouth,&amp;nbsp;Lloyd played for the San Diego Chargers.&amp;nbsp; From there he went to Tampa Bay as a Pro Scout, and then on to&amp;nbsp;Da Bears where he worked up from assistant coach to&amp;nbsp;Linebacker&#39;s Coach.&amp;nbsp; In addition, he has trained high school and college players that were preparing for the combine.&amp;nbsp; Here are some excerpts of our conversation:&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;br /&gt;
On what he would have his own kids work on if they wanted to make it to the next level:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;LL&lt;/strong&gt;&amp;nbsp; Obviously speed work, staying sharp in their specific position skill work, explosive work like box jumping, and most importantly flexibility.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
On why he thought flexibility was one of the most important components of sports training:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;LL&lt;/strong&gt;&amp;nbsp; From my martial arts training at an early age, to the reinforced learning from the Bears strength and conditioning program, flexibility helps in so many ways in areas of injury prevention, strength training, and speed performance&amp;nbsp;that it should not be taken for granted.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
On some other important aspects of developing the athlete:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;LL&lt;/strong&gt;&amp;nbsp; Good core strength is important. Having a good variety of weight training, and being taught fundamental form running techniques. You would be surprised at how many kids just don&#39;t know how to run.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
On what he has seen as a difference between those high school athletes that go on to next level:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;LL&lt;/strong&gt;&amp;nbsp; I have seen these athletes surround themselves with other serious athletes.&amp;nbsp; This pushes them to higher performance.&amp;nbsp; They seek out and employ expert and certified coaches that have worked with other elite athletes and know what is needed to get an athlete ready for a season and recruiting.&amp;nbsp; They focus on a sport or 2 year round and specialize.&amp;nbsp; Finally, they do not rely solely on their high school coaches to give them the next level training and help&amp;nbsp;to get them recruited.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
On what helped him get to the next level:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;LL&lt;/strong&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;My 4.5 forty speed helped, Intelligence on the field helps, but mainly my production on the field.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
What he meant by&amp;nbsp;&quot;Production on the Field&quot;.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;LL&lt;/strong&gt;&amp;nbsp; Big plays mainly, but also tackles and interceptions.&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
His opinion of the market for Full Ride in NW Suburbs:&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;strong&gt;LL&lt;/strong&gt;&amp;nbsp; If there is not this type of facility, like you said,&amp;nbsp;in a radius covering 15 high schools, there&amp;nbsp;should be a&amp;nbsp;market for this kind of sports training.&amp;nbsp; Contacting AAU coaches, athletic directors, and head coaches of high school&amp;nbsp;sports in the area will be important for success.&amp;nbsp; Also, adding access to nutritionists, tutors, etc. to help parents help their kids would be a great added benefit.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
