As Yahoo&#39;s Marissa Mayer approaches one year on the job as CEO, she is looking to revamp Yahoo&#39;s approach and breathe new life into the competition for number one in the search industry.

It was announced last week that Mayer and Yahoo! are in the process of developing several new tools and strategies to try and revive Yahoo&#39;s prospects of regaining market share in the lucrative search ad industry. As of 2012 the industry brought in roughly $19.8 billion in revenue related to search advertising. As of the end of the first quarter of 2013, Google held 67% of the search engine marketplace in the U.S., bringing with it a sizable chunk of that $19.8...<div class="feedflare">

As long as articles and blog posts are well written and the right keywords have been deployed in the right places, some site owners and even SEOs assume that there&#39;s little else to be improved as regards a site&#39;s front end.

Changes to the way that search engines evaluate pages mean this is an outdated attitude. Today&#39;s search algorithms, especially Google&#39;s, place much more emphasis on multimedia content than in the past. Good image content, properly tagged and titled, can really boost a site&#39;s profile. The value of image searches in driving traffic can&#39;t be overstated &mdash; especially since Google serves a block of image results at the top of its regular search results page. These naturally draw the eye and encourage searchers to click on the associated links.

Analytics is available to anyone with a Google account. The program includes quite a few innovative features &ndash; some that were included from the first Analytics release, and others that have been added more recently. Understanding these features, their use and their purposes can help you take better advantage of Google Analytics&rsquo; power.

Keywords

Many companies that maintain an online presence use Google&rsquo;s Adwords program to generate traffic to their sites by posting ads next to relevant search results pages. Analytics can help you determine exactly which keywords or search phrases are generating the most traffic &ndash; as well as which generate traffic that converts the best into actual paying customers.

Wondering why your blog isn&rsquo;t reaching your target readership? Fretting about your site&rsquo;s non-existent comments and low social shares? You could be committing the following mistakes:

Your posts are full of typos and grammatical errors - Clean up your articles and make sure the text is free from typos and grammar mistakes. This may sound obvious and basic, but so many bloggers remain careless with their writing and publish posts that are full of glaring typographical and grammatical errors. Don&rsquo;t be one of those bloggers.

Always run spell check on your articles. Type them up in a word processor first before pasting them online.

Do note that spell checkers are far from perfect though, so always read and re-read your articles prior to submission. The best spell checkers are your eyes and brain. Use them. You can also let other people check for spelling and grammar mistakes. It never hurts to get another set of eyes to read through a post.

Thanks to the emergence of big data, page tags, and analytics tools, brands and online publishers really have a lot of things going for them in data department. It&rsquo;s never been this easy to gather visitor intelligence, and website owners nowadays recognize the value of analytics so they&rsquo;re more than happy to track their site metrics, test components, and generate reports.

That&rsquo;s the good news. The not-so-good news is that while site owners are certainly looking at their analytics, they&rsquo;re not always paying attention to the right numbers. The fact is not all metrics are created equal. While it may be easier to look at the numbers on the surface (i.e. page views, total number of users, etc.), these aren&#39;t necessarily the data points that would give you the pulse of your website or company. These aren&#39;t the numbers that will tell you how your users are doing and what action steps you need to take to keep them happy.

In the last few years, however, Google has introduced various updates to its algorithms which have changed the way in which it delivers results. The Google Penguin update made by far the biggest impact on many aspects of SEO, including article marketing.

Many of the article directories, used primarily by article marketers for posting their content, suffered considerably from Google&#39;s latest updates. Once popular sites such as ezinearticles.com, articlesbase.com and numerous others were hit hard by the Google Penguin update and, as a result, rarely appear much in search results. For this reason, many Internet entrepreneurs are asking themselves if article marketing it still a viable way of generating traffic.

How Article Marketing Works

Article marketing is a simple enough...<div class="feedflare">

The blast claimed at least 3 lives, including one of an 8-year old boy, and left over 150 people injured.

At the time of writing this, the authorities are still trying to get to the bottom of this terrible incident, and are calling out to the public for any information that would lead them to those responsible.

What happened in Boston was catastrophic and there are no words that can fully describe the terror that took place. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this tragedy, and all of us here at FullTraffic are offering our prayers and support to all the victims.

We would also like to take this opportunity to reach out to our fellow Internet brands to send a gentle reminder to exercise mindfulness and sensitivity in the online world. Social media is a powerful tool and it&rsquo;s during times like these that...<div class="feedflare">

SEO changes so fast. It used to be that you could stuff your meta-keywords tag and rocket yourself to the top of the SERPs. A wellspring of anonymous authors got a lot of traffic, and a lot of spam sites presumably made a lot of money. Now, apparently, Google wants more quality and less anonymity. Meta-keywords have been out for a long time, but authorship hasn&#39;t been a big deal - until now.

Come Out, Come Out, Wherever You Are

Google is encouraging you to stop being anonymous. It&#39;s going to start following you all over the web. That&#39;s probably a good thing for a couple of reasons. First, the web is becoming more social with Facebook and Google+. It&#39;s not that the web wasn&#39;t social before though, it&#39;s just that people are wandering away from blogs and going to social networking sites. Yeah, they end up back on blogs in the comments section too, but bloggers and businesses...<div class="feedflare">

It&rsquo;s a given fact that publishing a steady stream of content is crucial to gaining links and increasing user engagement. Unfortunately, producing awesome and sharable content time and time again isn&rsquo;t easy for everyone--especially if they&rsquo;re not big on writing.

Fortunately though, writing articles isn&rsquo;t the only way to create content. Just because your CMS gives you a big white box with a blinking cursor in it doesn&rsquo;t mean you have to fill it with words every single time.

There are a number of other ways in which you can produce content. Explore these options. Use them well, experiment with them, and see what works.

Not sure where to start? The following are just some of the things that you can try:

Create presentations and upload them to Slideshare - Struggling to find the words to express what you need to say? Then put them in a PowerPoint presentation instead. It&rsquo;s easier for most people to present their thoughts in...<div class="feedflare">

Matt Cutts (@mattcutts), the head of Google&rsquo;s Webspam Team, is on record as a believer in SEO&rsquo;s ability to make the internet a better place. Search engine optimization (SEO) is integral to effective online marketing; without it, getting your message out to a wide audience is extremely difficult, at best. SEO will have a place in internet marketing for the foreseeable future, but do it wrong and there is a price to pay. Google will penalize your website for perceived attempts to manipulate rankings with grey or black hat techniques. The old-school is out, and the new-school is focusing more and more on visitors, less and less on search engines.

There are many different ways to implement SEO strategies. Analyzing and optimizing speed, navigability, ad designs and placements, and of course keywords, will improve page rank and increase revenue. Each of these factors can be assessed, and usually improved with a good SEO strategy. However, Google is developing something...<div class="feedflare">

Did you prank anyone on April Fools&rsquo; Day? Well you probably didn&rsquo;t have to anyway because some of the biggest names in tech had more than their fair share of April Fools&rsquo; jokes.

Most of the shenanigans were pretty obvious, but there was one in particular that seemed to have really fooled a few oblivious people (more on that below).

A quick note though: Whether you were the prankster or the prankstee this past April Fools&rsquo;, don&rsquo;t forget that all the jokes on the 1st of April should just be made in the name of good clean fun. (And if you ended up on the wrong side of a prank, don&rsquo;t worry&hellip; you can always get your revenge next year!)

Anyway, in case you missed them, below is a summary of some of tech&rsquo;s best April Fools&rsquo; jokes of 2013.

While businesses should conduct their social media activities in a business-like manner, there are still plenty of ways companies and organizations stray off the road into status territory that actually detracts from their reputations. To tweet optimally and avoid disenchanting clients and Twitter followers, be sure you aren&rsquo;t tweeting as follows.

Too Much Promotion
If your business uses Twitter as a platform for continuous advertisement, it may be turning off your customer base. Savvy business tweeters can still keep their brand present in the consciousness of their followers without indulging in excessive self-promotion. Instead, use the platform to tweet about events or to disseminate useful information about your industry. Your followers can easily tell the difference between useful information and self-grandeur. Moreover, people don&rsquo;t want...<div class="feedflare">

For years, this is how we were able to verify our keyword data from the free Keyword Tool put out by Google. With referrer data coming up &quot;not provided&quot; - even on the analytics dashboard, how are we to figure out how people find our site? Enter WassUp.

What Is Wassup?

WassUp is a simple Wordpress plugin that gives you analytics right from your Wordpress dashboard. It collects a lot of data about your visitors including their ip/hostname, whether they&#39;re a bot or human, search engines used to find your site, the operating system of the user, complete user agent, spam and hack attempts.

The plugin also have a really simple admin console area that allows you to filter by:

	record count per page
&quot;top ten&quot; charts with aggregate data (i.e. top queries, requests, etc.)
	records by time period
	records by entry type
	etc.

You can even customize how often the...<div class="feedflare">

And that&#39;s not all - it&#39;s become something of a running gag in the SEO industry too. For years, SEOs have been beating the backlinks drum and small business owners have been marched off an optimized cliff. After Panda, a lot of the old backlink strategies just up and died. Article directories withered away into obscurity, and link networks were (and continue to be) crushed by Google.

Anchor Text Isn&#39;t That Important

SEO firms (and their clients) got a major wake-up call when Google dropped this bombshell on its Inside Search Blog in 2011:

Better page titles in search results by de-duplicating boilerplate anchors: We look at a number of signals when generating a page&rsquo;s title. One signal is the anchor text in links pointing to the page. We found that boilerplate links with duplicated anchor text are not as...<div class="feedflare">

Log on to Google.com any given day and enter a search query for a random person, place, or landmark and you are no doubt going to be bombarded with page links, suggestions, and image previews related to your term. Bing.com recently added a new expansion to its Snapshot feature that allows the search engine to make better associations between places, people, and things.

Bing&rsquo;s Snapshot feature is found on the right hand side of the page when users use the search engine and provides images of relevant people, places, or &ldquo;things&rdquo; that correlate to the query term. Using a new technology it calls &ldquo;Satori,&rdquo; Bing is seeking to provide better image results that draw a clear correlation between subjects.

Bing posted the following statement on its official blog on 21 March:

Today, we are inviting people to check out Snapshot to experience our expansion of Satori.

Since its introduction in June, we have expanded Satori to include a significantly...<div class="feedflare">

Keywords are what your target market uses to describe what they&#39;re looking for. If you&#39;re not mentioning them on your page, in your ads, and as descriptors in meta descriptions and titles, you&#39;re probably not capturing the traffic you could be. Still, you could overdo it a bit when it comes to keywords - especially when it comes to keyword targeting. Do you make any of these common mistakes?

You Overemphasize Volume

Traffic volume is important, but it&#39;s not the only thing that matters. Here look at what happens when we search for the term &quot;SEO&quot; using Google&#39;s keyword tool:

Holy cow, that&#39;s a lot of searches per month for the term &quot;SEO.&quot; All you have to do is get ranked for that one keyword phrase, and you&#39;re set, right? Not so fast. You see, it doesn&#39;t matter how many people search for any keyword if it&#39;s too competitive....<div class="feedflare">

Doing keyword research is part of SEO (if you&#39;re doing it yourself, that is). It&#39;s hard word. You have to grind it out, sitting at your desk all day, thinking of what your ideal audience is looking for. Sometimes, it&#39;s helpful to look at your competition. But, your competition isn&#39;t exactly banging down your door and telling you what they&#39;re doing. So, you have to do a little research. Here&#39;s how:

Allinanchor

This search operator allows you to query terms that you specify in the anchor text on links to the page. It&#39;s helpful for finding pages with the same anchor text you&#39;re targeting. While Google has placed a lot less emphasis on this, it&#39;s still helpful to see who&#39;s out there - because for many years, anchor text was important. There are a lot of anchor text links still floating around out there, and so this is still one way to spy on your competition.

Allintext

If you start a search query with the...<div class="feedflare">

It&#39;s powerful, deceptively simple to use, and it has just about everything you need for optimization of posts and pages. You don&#39;t have to monkey with a lot of settings, and the optimization is done right under the text editor (which is good, since you don&#39;t have to leave your post or page to optimize it). If that weren&#39;t enough, it&#39;s available for free from the Wordpress plugin directory. But it&#39;s surprising to see so few people making full use of it. Here&#39;s how to get more out of this great plugin:

Choose Your Focus Keywords

Yoast doesn&#39;t choose your keywords for you. You do have to put in the wrench time on that one to figure out what you should be targeting. However, once that&#39;s done, Yoast will keep you focused. It does this using an input box aptly named &quot;Focus Keyword&quot; under the &quot;general&quot; tab (which is...<div class="feedflare">
