4G LTE and 3G DC-HSPA+ are known as 4th Generation Long Term Evolution and 3rd Generation Dual Cell High-Speed Packet Access Plus, respectively. 4G LTE and 3G DC-HSPA+ offer peak download speed of up to 75Mbps and 42Mbps, respectively. Both networks enable customers to enjoy bandwidth intensive content such as mobile TV, video and music streaming, cloud services and social networking, among others.
    2. How can I enjoy 4G LTE or 3G DC-HSPA+ service?
Customer will require a LTE or DC-HSPA+ mobile device and appropriate mobile plan to enjoy the service. For example, to enjoy 4G LTE service, customer will need to have a LTE handset or LTE dongle and subscribe to a new SmartSurf (SmartSurf Lite/Value/Premium/Elite) mobile plan or MaxMobile Elite (11GB) DataPack plan.
    3. What will happen if I move into an area with no 4G LTE coverage?
In areas where 4G LTE has not yet been deployed, subscribers of new SmartSurf plans or MaxMobile Elite (11GB) plan will be seamlessly switched to DC-HSPA+ or 3G connectivity.

StarHub's 4G LTE network?
StarHub's 4G LTE service operates on 1800MHz spectrum. Hence, some overseas 4G LTE mobile devices may not be compatible with our 4G network.
    5. Is there a difference in performance between LTE 700MHz and LTE 1800MHz?
There is no difference in performance. The operating frequency band is being defined by the authority within the country and has nothing to do with the performance of the product. Eventually, device manufacturer will design products to work with multiple frequency bands to cater to different
country's standard.
    6. Can I enjoy 4G LTE service while roaming overseas?
Currently, subscribers of the new SmartSurf plans or MaxMobile Elite (11GB) DataPack will connect only to 3G networks while overseas. We will announce the roaming destinations and partners that support 4G LTE services in the near future.
    7. How can I tell if I am connected to 4G LTE or DC-HSPA+?

The father was furious, 'If the only reason you asked that is so you can
borrow some money to buy a silly toy or some other nonsense, then you march
yourself straight to your room and go to bed. Think about why you are being
so selfish. I don't work hard everyday for such childish frivolities.'

The little boy quietly went to his room and shut the door.

The man sat down and started to get even angrier about the little boy's
questions. How dare he ask such questions only to get some money?

After about an hour or so, the man had calmed down, and started to think:

Maybe there was something he really needed to buy with that $25.00 and
he really didn't ask for money very often The man went to the door of
the little boy's room and opened the door.

'Are you asleep, son?' He asked.

'No daddy, I'm awake,' replied the boy.

'I've been thinking, maybe I was too hard on you earlier' said the man.
'It's been a long day and I took out my aggravation on you. Here's the
$25 you asked for.'

The little boy sat straight up, smiling. 'Oh, thank you daddy!' he yelled.
Then, reaching under his pillow he pulled out some crumpled up bills.

The man saw that the boy already had money, started to get angry again.

The little boy slowly counted out his money, and then looked up at his
father.

'Why do you want more money if you already have some?' the father grumbled.

'Because I didn't have enough, but now I do,' the little boy replied.

'Daddy, I have $50 now. Can I buy an hour of your time? Please come home
early tomorrow. I would like to have dinner with you.'

The father was crushed. He put his arms around his little son, and he begged
for his forgiveness.
It's just a short reminder to all of you working so hard in life. We should
not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with
those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts.

Do remember to share that worth of your time with someone you love. If
we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace
us in a matter of hours... But the family & friends we leave behind
will feel the loss for the rest of their lives.

Odd Wedding Rituals

1. The annoying ritual of making noise at the home of
newlyweds

Charivari is probably the most annoying wedding-related tradition we've
ever heard of. It is a French folk custom in which the community gives a noisy,
discordant mock serenade at the home of newlyweds while also pounding on pots
and pans . It has been documented since the Middle Ages but likely was
traditional before that. It was first recorded in France as a regular wedding
activity to celebrate the nuptials at some point after the vows had been
taken.

2. The brides who wear rings on their toes instead of
fingers

Whereas most jewelry exchanged at weddings involves placing rings on
fingers, Hindu brides use the Bichiya, which is the tradition of wearing their
wedding rings on their feet. The ring is usually silver and placed on a woman's
left foot, specifically on her great toe (which is next to the big toe). The
groom slips the ring on the bride's foot during the ceremony, and these rings
are only worn by married women.

3. The tradition of not allowing the newlyweds to use the bathroom
for 3 days

Well, this one can get painful and ugly. Members of the Tidong community in
Sandakan, Sabah, Malaysia do not allow newlyweds to go to the bathroom for 3
days and 3 nights. If they do, they will have bad luck, apparently. Bad luck may
come in the form of a broken union, the death of children, or even infertility.
The couple is starved and given little water.

4. The ritual where guests pay to dance with the
bride

This Polish tradition involves all of wedding guests, the bride, dancing,
money and an apron. At the wedding reception, the bride will dance with her
father, while a relative holds out an apron. Guests who place money in the apron
win the opportunity to dance with the bride. After a time, the groom will throw
in his wallet, thus surpassing all the other contributions. He will then whisk
away his new wife on their honeymoon.

5. The ritual of smashing dishes

The origin of this tradition is unknown, but it's thought that the
cacophonous sounds caused by the smashing of the cookery represent the
inevitable future disturbances that the couple will face throughout their
married lives. By breaking the dishes beforehand, the community is preparing the
couple for the obstacles ahead and simultaneously wishing them luck.

6. The practice of kidnapping brides

Bride kidnapping, also known as marriage by abduction or marriage by
capture, is a practice throughout history and around the world in which a man
abducts the woman he wishes to marry. It's said that bride kidnapping still
occurs in some cultures like the Romani, also known as Gypsies. If you manage to
forcefully kidnap a girl and keep her by your side for 2-3 days, she officially
becomes your wife. Pretty crazy, right?

7. The ritual of marrying animals to exorcise
ghosts

In some parts of India it is believed that if a baby girl has a tooth
rooted to her upper gum, it's the obvious sign that she will be eaten by a tiger
or something in the near future, because ghosts hate her. Therefore, she must
marry an animal.

The good news is that this is nothing but a mock ceremony and the couple
don't have to consummate the wedding. It's just to ward off the evil spirits so
the girl can marry a real boy some time later.

8. The ritual of blackening the bride

It's part of a hazing ritual that actually happens before the wedding. The
bride is taken by surprise, by hands down the crummiest friends you could have,
and covered from head to toe with foul substances such as eggs, various sauces,
feathers, and, well, you name it….The ritual of covering brides and grooms in
treacle, soot and flour used to be carried out to ward off evil spirits. It
still happens in parts of Scotland.

9. The ritual where grooms jumps over a broom

Jumping the broom is a time-honored wedding tradition in which the bride
and groom jump over a broom during the ceremony. The act symbolizes a new
beginning and a sweeping away of the past, and can also signify the joining of
two families or offer a respectful nod to family ancestors.

10. The ritual of beating the groom's feet

Most men look forward to the conclusion of their weddings, but in South
Korea the groom has to endure a beating before he can retire with his bride.
After the wedding ceremony, friends of the groom take off his socks, tie a rope
around the ankles, and start beating the soles of his feet with dried yellow
corvina. Yellow corvina is a kind of fish! It is done to make the groom stronger
before the first wedding night.

Your complaining attitude takes you away from your success. In fact it won�t be wrong if I co-relate this with Newton's law that complaining and�achieving�success are equal in magnitude but opposite in direction. This means that the more you complain about your circumstances the more you move away from your destination and vice versa.
On top of that, if you keep complaining, you will give birth to two more mental diseases which are �blaming' and �criticizing�. When you don't like your circumstances you start finding faults in people around you and then you start blaming and criticizing them for your failures. Hence all three diseases, complaining, blaming and criticizing strengthen their roots in your brain and eventually this negative attitude becomes your personality trait.
When you complain you waste your precious time. You build negative energy which piles up in your brain stealing your peace of mind leading to chronic psychological disorders hence it�s a concrete physical, mental and emotional loss which is no way closer to any kind of benefit.
On the contrary, if you are a hard working soul, you�believe�in your skills instead of luck. You believe in the �power of Now. You believe in power of making things happen instead of waiting for things to happen. Your analytical skills give you the luxury to break down the bigger problem into smaller problems and then you start fixing each problem one by one, moving near to your ultimate goal slowly and steadily.�
So now is the time to decide whether you would like to live as a loser by complaining, blaming and criticizing OR live like a successful chap, the one who doesn't waste the time by looking in the past, the one who does not have a negative thought process, the one who is visionary and the one who once make a�commitment then focuses on it all the way till the task is accomplished. �

"Hi handsome, my name is Rose"

The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder.

I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that lit up her entire being..

She said, 'Hi handsome. My name is Rose. I'm eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?'

I laughed and enthusiastically responded, 'Of course you may!' and she gave me a giant squeeze..

'Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?' I asked.

She jokingly replied, 'I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, and have a couple of kids...'

'No seriously,' I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her
age.

'I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm getting one!' she told me.

After class we walked to the student union building and shared a chocolate milkshake.

We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always mesmerized listening to this 'time machine' as she shared her wisdom and experience with me..

Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and she reveled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living it up.

At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet. I'll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the podium. As she began to deliver her prepared speech, she dropped her three by five cards on the
floor.

Frustrated and a little embarrassed she leaned into the microphone and simply said, 'I'm sorry I'm so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is killing me! I'll never get my speech back in order so let me just tell you what I know.'

As we laughed she cleared her throat and began, ' We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing.

There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die.

We have so many people walking around who are dead and don't even know it!

There is a huge
difference between growing older and growing up.

If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don't do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight.

Anybody! Can grow older. That doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding opportunity in change. Have no regrets.

The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets..'

She concluded her speech by courageously singing 'The Rose.'

She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives. At the year's end Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those months ago.

One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her
sleep.

Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught by example that it's never too late to be all you can possibly be.

Fear is one of the major blocking obstacles against your success. You tend to compromise with your circumstances and prefer to continue your status quo condition because you are afraid of making decisions. Since you lack in courage you cannot move forward in your life with liberty. On the other hand successful people are those who take risks in life. Successful people understand that taking risks will lead them experience new horizons in their field, will give them more vision and more confidence, give them wisdom and success by exposing them to more and more challenges and consequently help them achieve their dreams. Such people keep taking new risks in order toachieve what they want to achieve. Whenever there is a doubtful situation they take the next baby step in order to determine whether it is fine to move ahead. In case they fail, they take one step back and re-determine their direction using their analytical skills.So if you would like to live a
successful life, you must defeat your fears. The reasons for being under the clouds of fear might be because of several doubts or unanswered questions in your mind. In this article, I have compiled and answered a few of such queries in order to boost your confidence level:
Question: Do I have enough info in making this decision?
Answer: You may or may not have the full information as of now. However you can gather all the facts by consulting the right professionals, by reading books, by discussing with your friends and well-wishers, by posting your questions to online forums, by studying the market and by taking advice from experienced people. Once you have collected all the information, write it on a piece of paper; positive points on one side and negative points on another side. Now read them slowly with full focus. Once done, you are all set for making the decision.

Answer: Consider the worst case scenario as this gives you inner strength and makes you prepare for it. Don't worry about social factors, instead focus on your plans and decisions. Evil social factors will die their death one by one once you start producing the results. Strengthen your thoughts, avoid the unnecessary criticism and you will be able to set new trends in your domain.Question: Is anyone else afraid of same thing?

The stretchable battery could be the next big thing in battery technology, but it's not quite ready to hit stores tomorrow. A researcher at the University of Illinois named John A. Rogers and a second researcher associated with Northwestern University, Yonggang Huang, came up with the concept and eventually put it into practice the flexible lithium ion battery.

The researchers had worked on the project for several years when they finally hit a goldmine. The new, stretchable batteries will have potential in fields where normal, rigid batteries may not. According to UPI, an example of this would be using the batteries to monitor things like heart activity in the body. This doesn't really explain how the batteries are able to work, but luckily, that's where Huang comes in.

"We start with a lot of battery components side by side in a very small space, and we connect them with tightly packed, long wavy line. These wires provide the flexibility. When we stretch the battery, the wavy interconnecting lines unfurl, much like yarn unspooling. And we can stretch the device a great deal and still have a working battery."
In fact, stretching the device a "great deal" is a bit of an understatement. The team figured out how to create a battery that can stretch up to 300% of its original size and still work with no problems. The crew calls this capacity "ordered unraveling," but despite this crazy capacity, the stretchable batteries are still able to work for eight or nine hours before needing to be recharged.

Barbara Walters, of 20/20, did a story on gender roles in Kabul, Afghanistan, several years before the Afghan conflict.
She noted that women customarily walked five paces behind their husbands.

She recently returned to Kabul and observed that women still walk behind their husbands.
Despite
the overthrow of the oppressive Taliban regime, the women now seem happy
to maintain the old custom.

Ms Walters approached one of the Afghani women and asked,
'Why do you now seem happy with an old custom that you once tried so desperately to change?
'The woman looked Ms Walters straight in the eyes, and without hesitation said,
"Land mines."

How to Develop Analytical Skills

In our day to day life whether official, personal or social, we have to deal with complications. Some situations are easy to handle with but other are complex which snatch thepeace of mindbecause our brain gets stuck on how best to handle such state of affair. This is where our Analytical Skills help us. The prime purpose for the Analysis of any given situation is to get to know the root cause(s) of the issue, to forecast the impact and to plan corrective/preventive actions strategy. So basically analytical skill is tovisualizea given situation, task, project or issue from several angles in order to breakdown it into smaller steps.
Below are different situations where our analytical skills are required. I shall give advices in each category accordingly:
1)WhenSummarizing Large Amount of Data: In this situation, I highly recommend using Pivot Tables feature of MS Excel in order to generate reports. The Pivot Reports feature allows us playing with the data in several ways to generate multi dimensional reports. We can breakdown large amount of data in different sheets to apply Pivot Reports separately as well.Youtubeis a very good source of videos for learning this skill. Pivot table can also generate reports for Trends and Forecast in two to three dimensions.

2)When Resolving Conflicts in Office:In this case, listen to all parties which are having difference of opinion. List down the positive and negative input factors and after-effects based on feedback from individuals. Make it in tabular format and review this with your manager to see which one is the best option to go for. Then call for a meeting to elaborate the overall picture based on your fair analysis and convince personnel for the option which is in the best interest of the company. Read me detailed articlehere

3)WhenBeing Assigned a large project: in this case you need to make a high level agenda (High Level Project Deliverables) and then start working on WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) and then assign each task to relevant resource. 6)Whenhandling family conflicts:Being a sensitive subject, this is something where you need much more than analytical skills; For each family member involved in the conflict, you have to have sense of feelings,emotions study,stress absorption power, age factor, relationship level and convincing power so in my opinion this is the most difficult part of practicing your analytical skills. You have to consistently guide everyone about 'forgive and forget' policy. You have to calmly listen to each party and take adequate time to analyze all aspects (as mentioned a couple of lines back) vigilantly before concluding something on the brawl.

Conclusion: Analytical skills can make your life easier in almost all aspects ofdecision makingor problem solving, however, it's not only the matter of considering all the options and the inputs, its matter of considering the weight of each option as well. Kumar: But last year you said I am a Functional expert and you put me in this
project as a Functional Lead .
Big Boss: Oh is it? Well, in that case, I think your Functional knowledge has
eroded this year.
Kumar: What???
Big Boss: Yes, I didn ' t see you sharing knowledge on Technical domain.
Kumar: Why would I? Because I am not a Technical guy, I am a Management Guy.
Big Boss: This is what I don ' t like about you. You give excuse for everything.
Kumar: Huh? *Confused*
Big Boss: Next, you need to improve your communication skills.
Kumar: Like what? I am the one who trained the team on "Business Communication",
you sat in the audience and took notes, you remember?
Big Boss: Oh is it? Errr…well..I mean, you need to improve your Social Pragmatic

Three Bullets

There once was a man who had nothing for his family to eat.

He had an old rifle and three bullets. So, he decided that he would go out hunting and kill some wild game for dinner. As he went down the road, he saw a rabbit. He shot at the rabbit and missed it.

The rabbit ran away.

Then he saw a squirrel and fired a shot at the squirrel and missed it.

The squirrel disappeared into a hole in a cottonwood tree.

As he went further, he saw a large wild "Tom" turkey in the tree, but he had only one bullet remaining.

A voice spoke to him and said, "Pray first, aim high and stay focused."

However, at the same time, he saw a deer which was a better kill.

He brought the gun down and aimed at the deer. But, then he saw a rattlesnake between his legs about to bite him, so he naturally brought the gun down further to shoot the rattlesnake.

Still, the voice said again to him, "I said 'Pray, Aim high and Stay focused."

So, the man decided to listen to God's voice.
He prayed, then aimed the gun high up in the tree and shot the wild turkey.

The bullet bounced off the turkey and killed the deer.

The handle fell off the gun and hit the snake in the head and killed it.
And, when the gun had gone off, it knocked him into a pond.

When he stood up to look around, he had fish in all his pockets, a dead deer and a turkey to eat for his family.
The snake (Satan) was dead simply because the man listened to God.
Moral of the story:
Pray first before you do anything, Aim and shoot high in your goals,
and stay focused on God.

Never let others discourage you concerning your past. The past is
exactly that. "the past."
Live every day one day at a time and remember that only God knows our
future and that He will not put you through any more than you can bear.
Do not look to man for your blessings, but look to the doors that only He has prepared in advance for you in your favour.
Wait, be still and patient: keep God first and everything else will follow.

Don't just have career or academic goals. Set goals to give you a balanced, successful life. I use the word balanced before successful. Balanced means ensuring your health, relationships, mental peace are all in good order.

There is no point of getting a promotion on the day of your breakup. There is no fun in driving a car if your back hurts. Shopping is not enjoyable if your mind is full of tensions.

"Life is one of those races in nursery school where you have to run with a marble in a spoon kept in your mouth. If the marble falls, there is no point coming first. Same is with life where health and relationships are the marble. Your striving is only worth it if there is harmony in your life. Once penniless in Mumbai, now a crorepati!

Hunger was his only companion when he roamed the streets of Mumbai in search of a job.
At age 17,Prem Ganapathyleft his native place Nagalapuram in Tuticorin without informing his parents in the pursuit of making money, after a person promised him a job in Mumbai.
Destiny, however, willed otherwise. There was no job as the man promised. Instead he was abandoned in Bandra, a Mumbai suburb.But this boy did not lose hope, he decided to stay back and fight for survival.
Ganapathy turned his misfortune into the biggest opportunity of his life. He found a job as a dishwasher in one of the bakeries in suburban Mahim. He worked for about two years across restaurants in Mumbai doing all sorts of odd jobs. He soon realised that there was a good potential in the catering business .
Finally, in 1992 he took a handcart on rent to sellidli,dosaandvada. His brothers also joined to help him. His items became very popular as they had a different flavour and variety. He even got the homemadesambar masalafrom his native place. Ganapathy's hand cart did brisk business.
Five years later Ganapathy was confident enough to open the first Prem Sagar Dosa Plaza outlet outside Vashi station in Navi Mumbai. Since then there has been no looking back . . .
"My father instilled in me a lot of positive energy. This is what kept me going strong. I have tried to see an opportunity in every loss. Even when people teased him, saying 'your son has ditched you and gone far away', he always used to tell them 'I am happy for him as I know wherever he is, he will do well'.
If I had not come to Mumbai, I would have never been so successful," he says.
After Ganapathy completed his tenth standard, he did not want to study further.
"My teacher told me that I should continue studying but I told her frankly that I do not want to study. We had lot of financial problems so I wanted to work and earn money, help my family. Even getting water and firewood was an arduous task. We had to walk miles to get water and firewood," says Ganapathy.
His father had a tobacco business which ended in a loss. He also incurred huge losses in the farm. With seven children, his parents struggled to make ends meet.
He decided that he would get them a good life.
"Many young boys from our village were working in coffee shops in Chennai. So I also decided to join one of those shops. I worked there for about two years for monthly salary of Rs 250," he says.
Those days his only ambition was to make money and open a coffee powder shop. However, he was destined to take a different path.
In Chennai, he met a young boy who promised him a good job in Mumbai.
"He said if I pay him Rs 200, I would get job with a salary of Rs 1,200. I wanted to leave but knew my parents would not let me go. I was only 17 years old then. So I left Chennai without informing my parents," says Ganapathy.
They got down at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, a place where thousands of migrants land every day in search of a better livelihood.
"I was scared but I was willing to take the risk. We took a local train to Bandra and I was eagerly waiting to see where I would begin my new career. He took me to a tea shop and vanished. My worst fears came true. He had just dumped me there," Ganapathy reminisces.
It was the most unforgettable day in his life. He could not speak Hindi, he did not know anyone in the city nor did he have any money. Finally, he met a friendly taxi driver and told him his story."He took pity on me and said they can collect some money and send him home. The train fare was Rs 121 then. But I said I will not go back home. I will do some work and live here. I slept in the temple compound till I found a job in a bakery in Mahim to clean pizza-baking vessels. I used to sleep in the shop itself," he says.
After working there for six months, he found another job, to deliver pizza bread to a hotel in Chembur. Later, he moved to Navi Mumbai where he started working as a dishwasher in a restaurant called Gurudev.
"As a Tamilian, I faced discrimination in the beginning. We were given only kitchen work to do. After a while, I started to move out of the hotel, to give tea/coffee to shopkeepers around that area. I used to earn Rs 1,000, three times more than the other boys as this service was based on a commission basis," he says.
A sincere worker
Ganapathy was meticulous and sincere in his work. Unlike others, he never got into squabbles with anyone.
"I used to keep a note of every person's requirement, some wanted strong tea, some wanted it without sugar. So I established a good rapport with the outside world. One person who had a small business saw that I was enterprising and hard working so he suggested that we open a food stall on the street on a joint partnership. He invested the money and told me to do the work and he promised me half of the profit," he says.
The stall near the market area did good business. But the person duped him. He refused to give Ganapathy any share of the profit as promised and said he would give only Rs 1,200 as salary. So he called off the partnership and decided that it is best to do something on his own.
The food stall business
Ganapathy realised that starting a food stall would be the best way to earn good money. Two years after he landed in Mumbai, in 1992, he went back home, got his brothers to help him.
"I borrowed some money from friends and rented a handcart for Rs 150. It was really difficult in the initial days. Many times, the municipality vans used to come and pick our handcart. But I was very positive and determined. I never gave up hope," says Ganapathy.
"I scored on account of cleanliness and the variety of food I offered. I got the recipes from my mother and brought themasalafrom my village. . . so the food I offered had a distinct flavour, which made it an instant hit.
Supporters all along
Ganapathy was lucky to have helpful roommates. They were very friendly and supportive.
"Since they studied at NIIT, they guided me well. They even taught me a computer course. They also spread the word around about mydosas. My business did well," he says.
Ganapathy's day used to begin at 5.30 a.m. everyday. He cooked the food all by himself, used to be on the road till about 3.30 pm. "I took a break of two hours every evening and spent the time surfing at a cyber cafe. I used to read about various businesses and learned quite a lot. My brothers also played a crucial role in making the business a success," he says.
Dosas, an instant hit
Five years later, when Ganapathy had a regular clientele he became more confident about the business's future prospects. Interestingly, McDonald's opened its first restaurant in Vashi near his stall.
"I was amazed to see the long queues of people who wanted to buy a burger. What is so great about the burger, I used to think. That's when I realised how a restaurant can make a big impact."
"I did a lot of reading and talked to several people who had similar business. Then I started to look around for a suitable place where I could set up a food outlet and get a good customers," he explains.
A turning point
Finally, in 1998, Ganapathy decided to take a kiosk outside the Vashi railway station in Navi Mumbai to open the first outlet called Prem Sagar Dosa Plaza. Fortunately he got good response from the first day itself. "I added more variety to the menu. Along with his dosa outlet, I also tried my luck by investing in a Chinese restaurant, but it flopped. However, I tried to add the Chinese flavour in the dosas, which worked very well," he says.
His experiments with dosas resulted in exotic varieties like American Chopsuey, Schezwan Dosa, Paneer chilly, Spring roll dosa to name a few. Within a year, Dosa Plaza had created 25 original varieties of dosas.
"I did a lot of experiments to improve the taste and variety. By 2002, Dosa Plaza had 104 delicious varieties of dosas."
"In 2003, a new mall called Centre One opened in Vashi. The people from mall management team who knew me suggested that I open an outlet in the mall."
So Prem Sagar Dosa Plaza joined the big league of restaurants to open a swanky outlet in the mall which attracted a lot of attention.
Dosa Plaza gained popularity, got a lot of media coverage as well.Ganapathy started offering franchises to people who wanted to set up the outlet elsewhere.
The first franchise outlet opened at Wonder Mall, in Thane. Even today, he supplies the special masala (the ingredients are known only to him) made at his production facility in Vashi. The franchisees are also given trained professionals.
Ganapathy went for a brand-building exercise for better visibility. "The brand makeover helped. We got a new logo design as 'approved by Dr. D', and changed the name to Dosa Plaza. This was a big boost to the business.
Dosa Plaza has indeed become a runaway success. Today, we have 35 outlets including franchiees. We plan to make it 100 outlets by 2011," says an optimistic Ganapathy."In 2008, we opened franchisee outlets in New Zealand. About 50 per cent of our clients in New Zealand are locals. In fact, the former Prime Minister of New Zealand, Helen Clark and other ministers had dinner from our outlet," says Ganapathy. The next outlets will be in the US and Dubai.Today, Dosa Plaza has 35 outlets across 10 states in India with a turnover of over Rs 5 crore (Rs 50 million).
Ganapathy's dream is to make Dosa Plaza a global brand with outlets across the world. The Dosa Plaza success story has also become a case study for management students.
"APhD student from the SIES college did a project work based on Dosa Plaza. I was invited to the college for an interaction with students," says Ganapathy.
For Ganapathy, who has visited almost all the colleges in New Bombay to personally make dosas, it was a humbling experience to talk about his experience as an entrepreneur.
Coming to Mumbai was the turning point in his life. "I am indebted to Mumbai. This city has made me what I am.
Though initially I faced problems and some kind of discrimination, I feel no other city would give respect to a street vendor like the people in Mumbai. Their love and encouragement have been my strength," says Ganapathy.Even today when his first customers stop to talk to him, he feels extremely happy. They tell him that 'you will go a long way. This is just the beginning.' He feels there is nothing more valuable than their good wishes.
Another interesting instance was when film star Rajnikant's wife visited Dosa

Plaza outlet in Mumbai.She liked it so much that he was invited to their house in Chennai. Rajnikant also invited him to attend his daughter's wedding recently.
How has life changedHis parents were the happiest in the family. "I brought them to Mumbai. I took them to the restaurants. They had food from my outlets and were extremely happy about my success. Now I am very happy that I can give them what they. My father is no more but I am happy that he lived to see my success," says Ganapathy.
He continues to live a simple life. "My lifestyle hasn't changed much. The only big difference is that I wear good clothes now. I still prefer to be simple. I do travel by bus and train many times and I enjoy it. I had an Indica car for a long time, now I bought a Ford Fiesta. Earlier, I could enjoy long train journeys, now I travel by flight when I go out of Mumbai," he says.
From a carefree life on the streets, now Ganapathy leads a very careful life, cautious about every step he takes."As the business expands, my responsibilities have increased. Many people are dependent on me. Franchisees are also investing money so I work harder now," he says.
AppreciationPeople in the village who had ridiculed me, give me a lot of respect. I visit the village once in while, taking part in the temple activities and I also contribute in small way to help people. If someone from my village comes to Mumbai in search of a job, I help them.
His biggest recognition came when his story was published in Rashmi Bansal's book 'Connect the Dots' as one of 20 best enterprising individuals without an MBA. "My story has also been mentioned in a Tamil book by Anita Krishnamurthi. Former president Abdul Kalam released this book in New Bombay last year. I felt very privileged to receive a copy of the book from him," he says.
Any regrets on not studying? "Well, not at all. But speaking in English becomes difficult when I go abroad. Other than that I don't think I would have learned so much in any school.
My experience has been my biggest teacher," he says.
Does he ever think about the man who abandoned him? "In a way, I reached here and achieved so much because of him. I wonder where he is now..."

Pressure at work

I hired a plumber to help me restore an old farmhouse, and after he had just finished a rough first day on the job, a flat tyre made him lose an hour of work, his electric drill quit and his ancient one-ton truck refused to start. While I drove him home, he sat in stony silence.

On arriving he invited me in to meet his family. As we walked towards the front door, he paused briefly at a tree, touching the tips of the tree. When opening the door he underwent an amazing transformation.

His tanned face was wreathed in smiles and he hugged his two small children and gave his wife a kiss. Afterward he walked me to the car. We passed the tree and my curiosity got the better of me. I asked him about what I had
seen him do earlier.

Oh, that's my trouble tree," he replied. "I know I can't help having troubles on the job, but one thing's for sure, those troubles don't belong in the house with my wife and the children. So I just hang them up on the tree every night when I come home and ask God to take care of them. Then in the morning I pick them up again. "Funny thing is," he smiled, "when I come out in the morning to pick them up, there aren't nearly as many as I remember hanging up the night before."
