1.) Plug your flash drive into one of the USB ports. Make sure you have no important files saved to the flash drive. The higher the memory on the flash drive, the more RAM you can add to you computer, however, certain computers can only use so much.

2.) Click Start > Computer > Right Click your flash drive > Properties

3.) Go to the Ready Boost tab and check the "Use this device." box. Now drag the slider all the way to the right, so you can use your flash drive to it's full potential. Click apply then Ok.

As you can see I have added 1902 megabytes of RAM, which is almost 2 Gigs.

4.) Now just to check if everything worked open up your flash drive and you should have a ReadyBoost file located inside of it.

And there you go your computer should now run more smoothly! Remember the more RAM you add the more of a difference you should see in performance.

Some IMPORTANT Things:
-The RAM added will not show up in your installed memory because it is "Virtual memory".
-Do not unplug your flashdrive while your computer is on, turn off before unplugging. Computer may crash if unplugged while computer is on.
-You can use as many flashdrives as you have USB ports.
-I recommend changing the name of you flashdrive to something involving "RAM" so you don't save any files to it.

Is your computer running running slow or do you think you are infected? If yes than this thread is for you!

First you must learn to differentiate between an infection and just general computer slowness.

Symptoms of Infection
There are a number of symptoms which indicate that your computer has been infected. If you notice "strange things" happening to your computer, namely:

unexpected messages or images are suddenly displayed

unusual sounds or music played at random

your CD-ROM drive mysteriously opens and closes

programs suddenly start on your computer

you receive notification from your firewall that some applications have attempted to connect to the Internet, although you did not initiate this, then it is very likely that your computer has been infected by a virus.

Additionally, there are some typical symptoms which indicate that your computer has been infected via email:
your friends mention that they have received messages from your address which you know you did not send

your mailbox contains a lot of messages without a sender's e-mail address or message header.

These problems, however, may not be caused by viruses. For example, infected messages that are supposedly coming from your address can actually be sent from a different computer.

There is a range of secondary symptoms which indicate that your computer may be infected:
your computer freezes frequently or encounters errors

your computer slows down when programs are started

the operating system is unable to load

files and folders have been deleted or their content has changed

your hard drive is accessed too often (the light on your main unit flashes rapidly)

Microsoft Internet Explorer freezes or functions erratically e.g. you cannot close the application window

What to do if your Computer is Running Slow

Computers need regular maintenance, I know this comes as a shock to some of you, but it's true nonetheless.

It's best if we break things down into two sections, the first are those that should be done regularly, the next are those that only need to be done once, or very infrequently.

1. Tasks that need to be carried out regularly.

Clean out Temp files

During the normal operation of your computer, Windows and your other programmes create an awful lot of temporary files. For the most part they are just that, temporary. But for any number of reasons, when they're no longer needed they don't get removed by the programme that created them. So over time their number builds up, and unless you clear them out they can slow down your computer noticeably.

In the case of your Browser, the problem can be worse. All browsers cache the web pages you visit. The original reason was to make loading pages faster. When everyone was on dial-up this was quite a good idea, but with modern fast connections it's mostly unecessary now. However browsers still cache webpages, and unless cleaned out regularly they build up to a position where they can have some pretty dramatic effects on how your browser works. Any number of wierd browser problems are caused by nothing more than an overfull cache.

So once a month, or once a week if you're a heavy user, it's a good idea to clean out your Temporary files.

To clean out temp files:

A good program to run regularly is CCleaner.

Download CCleaner from here

Double click on ccsetupXXX_slim.exe to start the installation of CCleaner. (XXX is the version number)

Click OK

Click Next

Click I agree

Click Next

Click Install

Once the installation has finished, click Finish

Open CCleaner if it's not already running.

Select Cleaner Settings.
Check Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer, and System so that all items are checked. Then under Internet Explorer, Uncheck "History". In the Advanced section, have a check only on Old PreFetch Data.

Click on the Options block on the left. Select Advanced.
Check Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours.

Set CCleaner to Run When Computer Starts. Click on the Options block on the left, then choose Settings. Check Run CCleaner when computer starts.

Defrag your Hard Drive

Every time you write a file to your Hard Drive, the drive controller has to find space on your drive. It will often break files into fragments, so that it can use the available disk space efficiently. However over time files can become very fragmented because of this, and your drive controller has to work harder to find all the fragments and re-combine them so that a programme can use it. This slows things down, depending on the amount of fragmentation of your files, it can slow things down a lot.

So once a month (for heavy users), or once every 3 or 4 months (for light users), it's a good idea to defragment your hard drive.

This will re-arrange the fragments on your drive so they form contiguous entities which are much easier for your drive controller to deal with.

It's a time consuming operation, usually taking several hours, so best to do what I do, and start it going before you go to bed.

To defrag your hard drive:

Click Start

Run

Type: Dfrg.msc and click ok.

Select your main Drive or "Volume" (usually C)

Click Defragment

This may take a while so as said previously, best to leave running over night. Once it has completed, repeat the procedure on any other drives you have on-board.

2. Tasks that don't need to be carried out so often.

Reduce the number of Start Up programs.

Pretty much every programme you install these days is set to auto start when you boot up. The programme manufacturers tell you it's for your benefit, but the truth is for most of them it's just not necessary that they do so. Lots of auto starting programmes will severely slow down your startup time, and having lots of unecessary programmes running in memory will slow down the running speed of your computer as well.

Luckily it's not hard to prevent unecessary programmes from auto starting. Doing so does not mean you can't use the programmes, you start them by double clicking on their icons, just as you always have, it just means they won't be running when you're not using them.

Of course programmes like your Firewall and Anti-Virus need to auto run, so we won't be touching them at all.

To remove programs from startup:

Download StartupLite by Rubberducky to your Desktop.

Doubleclick StartupLite.exe to launch the programme.

Ensure the Disable box is checked.

Click Continue.

A pop up message will tell you the unecessary startup items in your list have been disabled and ask you to restart your computer.

Re-start your computer.

Check the amount of free space you have on your Hard Drive.

Windows (XP and Vista) needs a certain amount of "overhead" (free disk space) if it's to operate efficiently. If it doesn't have that space, your processor has to "page out", which will slow everything down considerably.

Ideally you need at least 15-20% of your disk to be empty, if you don't have 15% then it's time to start freeing up some disk space.

To check your free disk space:

For users of XP
Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter

Look in the last column (top right) under % Free Space

Exit Disk Defragmenter

For users of Vista
Click Start > Computer

A window will open

Information for your Hard disk drive(s), including the exact amount of free space available, will be displayed in the uppermost portion of the window.

Presuming you don't have enough free disk space, here's a couple of suggestions for freeing some up

Remove unecessary programmes.

OK, time to be honest with youself, are you really using all those programmes you've got installed, or are there some that you haven't used in a lifetime. If there are, then why not get rid of them and free up some disk space. Your hard drive will thank you for your efforts.

To remove unwanted/unused programs:

For users of XP
Click Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs

Click on the programme you want to remove to highlight it.

Click the Change/Remove button and follow any instructions given.

Repeat for all programmes you wish to remove.

For users of Vista
For Control Panel Home view - Click Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features

For Classic View - Click Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features

For either option, to uninstall a program, select it from the list and then click Uninstall.

Reduce your System Restore Points.

Windows creates System Restore points on a regular basis (every 24 hours), they take up a great deal of space on your hard drive (upto 12% for XP, 15% for Vista). If your computer has been running without problems (other than the slowness) for some time, then you can free up a lot of space by reducing the number of System Restore points to one (the latest).

Windows will continue creating more RPs, but it'll take some time before you need to thin them out again.

To reduce the number of System Restore points:

For users of XP
Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup

This will bring up the Disk Cleanup window.

Click the More Options tab.
In the System Restore field, click Clean up

You will be prompted if you want to remove all but the most recent Restore Point.

Click Yes.

Click OK.

When prompted whether you're sure you want to do this click Yes.

For users of Vista
Click Start > All Programs > System Tools > Disk Cleanup

Select Files from all users on this computer

Click on Continue

Select the appropriate drive letter (usually C:)

When the Disk Cleanup window opens, select the More Options tab

Under System Restore and Shadow Copies click on the Clean up button

All but the latest restore point will be removed
Note: In some editions of Windows Vista, the disc might include file shadow copies and older Windows Complete PC Backup images as part of restore points. This information will also be deleted.

What to do if your Computer is Infected

A new technology will take its place,
though. IPv4 ¡äs successor is IPv6, a
system that will not only offer far
more numerical addresses, but will
simplify address assignments and
additional network security
features.
The transition from IPv4 to IPv6 is
likely to be rough, though. Most
people are unfamiliar with IPv4 and
IPv6, much less the potential impact
the switch to IPv6 may have on their
lives.
That¡¯s why we¡¯ve compiled this short

IPv4 & IPv6 Q&A

Q: What is IPv4?
A: IPv4 stands for Internet Protocol
version 4. It is the underlying

us to connect our devices to the web.
Whenever a device access the Internet
(whether it ¡¯s a PC, Mac, smartphone
or other device), it is assigned a
unique, numerical IP address such as
99.48.227.227. To send data from one
computer to another through the web, a
data packet must be transferred
across the network containing the IP
addresses of both devices.
Without IP addresses, computers
would not be able to communicate and
send data to each other. It ¡¯s essential
to the infrastructure of the web.

Q: What is IPv6?
A: IPv6 is the sixth revision to the
Internet Protocol and the successor to
IPv4. It functions similarly to IPv4
in that it provides the unique,
numerical IP addresses necessary for
Internet-enabled devices to
communicate. However, it does sport
one major difference: it utilizes 128-
bit addresses. I ¡¯ll explain why this is
important in a moment.

Q: Why are we running out of IPv4
addresses?
A: IPv4 uses 32 bits for its Internet
addresses. That means it can support
2^32 IP addresses in total ¡ª around
4.29 billion. That may seem like a lot,
but all 4.29 billion IP addresses have
now been assigned to various
institutions, leading to the crisis we
face today.
Let¡¯s be clear, though: we haven¡¯t run
out of addresses quite yet. Many of
them are unused and in the hands of
institutions like MIT and companies
like Ford and IBM. More IPv4
addresses are available to be assigned
and more will be traded or sold
(since IPv4 addresses are now a scarce
resource), but they will become a
scarcer commodity over the next two
years until it creates problem for the
web.

Q: How does IPv6 solve this problem?
A: As previously stated, IPv6 utilizes
128-bit Internet addresses. Therefore,
it can support 2^128 Internet
addresses ¡ª
340,282,366,920,938,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
of them to be exact. That ¡¯s a lot of
addresses, so many that it requires a
hexadecimal system to display the
addresses. In other words, there are
more than enough IPv6 addresses to
keep the Internet operational for a
very, very long time.

Q: So why don¡¯t we just switch?
A: The depletion of IPv4 addresses
was predicted years ago, so the switch
has been in progress for the last
decade. However, progress has been
slow ¡ª only a small fraction of the
web has switched over to the new
protocol. In addition, IPv4 and IPv6
essentially run as parallel networks
¡ª exchanging data between these
protocols requires special gateways.
To make the switch, software and
routers will have to be changed to
support the more advanced network.
This will take time and money. The
first real test of the IPv6 network
will come on June 8, 2011, World
IPv6 Day. Google, Facebook and other
prominent web companies will test
drive the IPv6 network to see what it
can handle and what still needs to be
done to get the world switched over to

Q: How will this affect me?
A: Initially, it won¡¯t have a major
impact on your life. Most operating
systems actually support IPv6,
including Mac OS X 10.2 and

routers and servers don ¡¯t support it,

with an IPv6 address to a router or
server that only supports IPv4

I havent seen anything cover this before (at least not this way of using netstat) and sometimes people want to know if they are infected by a RAT or something. This mini tutorial should help you out a little bit

PART 1 - Preparing Task Manager

Open Task Manager (ctrl+alt+del). Go to the processes column and click View > Select Columns.

Check the top one (PID (Process Identifier))

Now, organize Task Manager by PID. This will make things easier to read for the next step.

PART 2 - Using Netstat to see Established Connections

Now you want to go into Start > Run > cmd > "netstat -ano". It should look similar to the picture below:

Only look for ESTABLISHED connections (it would be established if its a RAT or malicious), read the PID and crosscheck into Task Manager. Notice in my example that the only established connections use the PID 424. Lets take a look at what that is:

As we can see, its Firefox. Now lets say you notice the PID reads something like "svchost.exe". You should open the file location by right clicking it and pressing Open File Location and either scan it with Virustotal or check to see if in its legit location (if it was in Appdata or Program Files and it is svchost.exe, then you may have a problem).

party apps access to your phone number and address, they
mentioned on their developers'blog. They said they will now be
making this information accessible as part of the User Graph project. What this means is third party applications like
'Farmville' and 'Stalker' will now
be able to access your address and phone number. The way
around this, don't use the app.
Or don't put your phone number and address up if you
do use the app.

Facebook says that because this is sensitive information to give out, users agree to give
permission to the apps to access their phone number and
address when they first add the application. However, users are most likely going to miss the
words phone number and address in their scurry to get the applications.
Thankfully, only you have control of your contact information
being shared via Facebook. Your friends' careless sharing actions will not release your contact information out to these app
developers.
We're expecting a big hoo-ha about this but what it comes
down to is simple. Don't put any information up on Facebook you're not even in the slightest
bit comfortable getting around.
If Facebook apps are the only way you entertain yourself (I
mean, come on!), but you don't want the makers of these
applications to have your information (consider that you're also using these applications for free and developers are businessmen too), just don't put sensitive
information up on your profile.

#1 - Add medibuntu repositorium:

#2 - Updating Ubuntu

Print queve applet - For printers
Update notifier - notifies of updates (you can take it off and enter sudo apt-get update ja sudo apt-get upgrade once a week)
Visual aid - for handicaps

3)Remove effects:
Start menu -> Computer -> preferences -> appearance -> Visual Effects -> None

#12 - Remove annoying "beep-sound"
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
And add the line:
blacklist pcspkr
& save. Will go into effect after restart

#13 - Connecting with Wifi (Startup) always asks for "Keyring"-password?
Terminal:

Will it fail like wave or succeed like chrome?

This is just my opinion about Google’s Chrome OS. There are few reasons which can make chrome OS less impressive.

Why Chrome OS may fail?

1. Web, Web and web.

Chrome OS is entirely based on web stuff. Though the web has evolved into something unimaginable from what it was few years back, it still has its own problem: The Bandwidth. Not all of us have high-speed broadband connections with unlimited usage. Just think of it : A song weighs 5 MB and you download it every time you want to listen it. Think about Web-designing, Video editing, audio editing etc. Even if there is a web-based solution for these, How effective will it be?

2. Cloud computing.

Chrome OS stores all your data on the cloud (i.e. servers run by Google and other companies). Yes, you can access your data anywhere. However you give them your private stuff, that you would store in your ‘personal’ computer’s hard drive, to them. No, I am not trying to tell that Cloud computing is evil but I am trying to tell that everything cant be stored online. Cloud cannot substitute local storage, it can only complement it.

3. Competition from home.

Chrome OS has a greater enemy: The Android. Android is also developed by Google, is opensource and uses Linux kernel. If you haven’t seen yet, Check the video below.

You will find that it has everything but a pointer. This means that Chrome OS is knocked out from the future. Android is relatively a better “Linux distro” for it is developed from the scratch while Chrome OS is ubuntu based. They tell that Chrome OS is for personal computers, but what is ‘personal computing’ when there is no local storage? Everybody loves better UI and Android has it. Moreover, the name is unique unlike Chrome OS which borrowed its name from Chrome web-browser.

Why is Chrome OS still a milestone?

It has brought developers towards Linux and the web. Chrome OS caused the revolution that everything is possible with the web. Chrome web-store made web applications available in just a click. It revealed the POWER OF LINUX and opensource. Therefore Chrome OS stands to be a milestone irrespective of its success or failure. Yet Android impresses me.

I will try ANDROID in near future. However I might not try Chrome OS.

PALO ALTO, CA –Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook will be shut down in March. Managing the site has become too stressful.
“Facebook has gotten out of control,” said Zuckerberg in a press conference outside his Palo Alto office, “and the stress of managing this company has ruined my life. I need to put an end to all the madness.”
Zuckerberg went on to explain that starting March 15th, users will no longer be able to access their Facebook accounts.
“After March 15th the whole website shuts down,” said Avrat Humarthi, Vice President of Technical Affairs at Facebook. “So if you ever want to see your pictures again, I recommend you take them off the internet. You won’t be able to get them back once Facebook goes out of business.”
Zuckerberg said that the decision to shut down Facebook was difficult, but that he does not think people will be upset.
“I personally don’t think it’s a big deal,” he said in a private phone interview. “And to be honest, I think it’s for the better. Without Facebook, people will have to go outside and make real friends. That’s always a good thing.”
Some Facebook users were furious upon hearing the shocking news.
“What am I going to do without Facebook?” said Denise Bradshaw, a high school student from Indiana. “My life revolves around it. I’m on Facebook at least 10 hours a day. Now what am I going to do with all that free time?”
However, parents across the country have been experiencing a long anticipated sense of relief.
“I’m glad the Facebook nightmare is over,” said Jon Guttari, a single parent from Detroit. “Now my teenager’s face won’t be glued to a computer screen all day. Maybe I can even have a conversation with her.”
Those in the financial circuit are criticizing Zuckerberg for walking away from a multibillion dollar franchise. Facebook is currently ranked as one of the wealthiest businesses in the world, with economists estimating its value at around 7.9 billion.
But Zuckerberg remains unruffled by these accusations. He says he will stand by his decision to give Facebook the axe.
“I don’t care about the money,” said Zuckerberg. “I just want my old life back.”
The Facebook Corporation suggests that users remove all of their personal information from the website before March 15th. After that date, all photos, notes, links, and videos will be permanently erased.

1. What is Linux?

Linux is a free Unix-type operating system for computer devices. The operating system is what makes the hardware work together with the software. The OS is the interface that allows you to do the things you want with your computer. Linux is freely available to everyone. OS X and Windows are other widely used OS.

Linux gives you a graphical interface that makes it easy to use your computer, yet it still allows those with know-how to change settings by adjusting 0 to 1.
It is only the kernel that is named Linux, the rest of the OS are GNU tools. A package with the kernel and the needed tools make up a Linux distribution. Mandrake , SUSE Linux, Gentoo and Redhat are some of the many variants. GNU/Linux OS can be used on a large number of boxes, including i386+ , Alpha, PowerPC and Sparc.

2. Understanding files and folders

Linux is made with one thought in mind: Everything is a file.
A blank piece of paper is called a file in the world of computers. You can use this piece of paper to write a text or make a drawing. Your text or drawing is called information. A computer file is another way of storing your information.
If you make many drawings then you will eventually want to sort them in different piles or make some other system that allows you to easily locate a given drawing. Computers use folders to sort your files in a hieratic system.
A file is an element of data storage in a file system. Files are usually stored on harddrives, cdroms and other media, but may also be information stored in RAM or links to devices.
To organize our files into a system we use folders. The lowest possible folder is root / where you will find the user homes called /home/.

Behind every configurable option there is a simple human-readable text file you can hand-edit to suit your needs. These days most programs come with nice GUI (graphical user interface) like Mandrakes Control Center and Suses YAST that can smoothly guide you through most configuration. Almost everything you do on a computer involves one or more files stored locally or on a network.
Your filesystems lowest folder root / contains the following folders:

/dev	Device files, links to your hardware devices like /dev/sound, /dev/input/js0 (joystick)
/etc	Host-specific system configuration
/home	User home directories. This is where you save your personal files

/var	/var contains variable data files. This includes spool directories and files, administrative and logging data, and transient and temporary files.
/proc	System information stored in memory mirrored as files.

The only folder a normal user needs to use is /home/you/ - this is where you will be keeping all your documents.

3. Understanding users and permissions

Linux is based on the idea that everyone using a system has their own username and password.
Every file belongs to a user and a group, and has a set of given attributes (read, write and executable) for users, groups and all (everybody).
A file or folder can have permissions that only allows the user it belongs to to read and write to it, allowing the group it belongs to to read it and at the same time all other users can't even read the file.

4. Who and what is root

Linux has one special user called root (this is the user name). Root is the "system administrator" and has access to all files and folders. This special user has the right to do anything.
You should never log on as this user unless you actually need to do something that requires it!
Use su - to temporary become root and do the things you need, again: never log into your sytem as root!
Root is only for system maintenance, this is not a regular user (LindowsOS don't have any user management at all and uses root for everything, this is a very bad idea!).
You can execute a command as root with:
su -c 'command done as root'
Gentoo Linux: Note that on Gentoo Linux only users that are member of the wheel group are allowed to su to root.

Save Your Mobile battery

If you're expecting a call and your battery icon starts blinking, the first thing you should do is find a charger. But if that's not an option, here are ten things you can do to hang on. We'll skip the usual tips about the 'memory effect' and which battery type is better "NiCd or Li-Ion" because you don't really have a choice in that.

Close Background Applications
If you're using a Smartphone, close applications that you don't need. Applications that stay active in the background use up a bit of CPU, which uses up battery. Make sure you 'exit' the applications from the menu, not by pressing the 'End' key, as that merely puts the application in the background. In Series 60 Smartphones (mostly Nokias), hold down the 'Menu' key to get a list of all applications running in the background to close them. In Windows Mobile 5 phones, open the 'Memory' application and check the 'Running programs' tab to close them.

Turn Down Screen Brightness
The screen is one of the most power-consuming parts of the mobile phone. The lower the brightness, the lesser power it needs. Keep it as low as you can, so long as you can still see it! Also, some phones like the E61 and the BlackBerry Pearl come with auto-adjust features that increase the brightness in brightly lit areas and dim it in low-light areas. If you're setting the brightness low, make sure that auto-adjust is turned off.

Don't Use Animated Wallpapers or Screensavers
The animations in wallpapers and screensavers can drain a bit of battery as they also consume a wee bit of CPU. Turn them off.

Turn Off Keypad Lights
If you've been using the phone for a while, you may be able to use the keys without seeing them. If this is the case, the keypad backlight can be turned off. However, not a lot of phones support this, but it's worth considering if your phone does.

Decrease Screen Standby Time Out
The time till your screen dims out and/or gets turned off is configurable in most phones. 10 seconds is good, 5 seconds is better. Set it as low as you can go without it becoming inconvenient.

Turn Off Vibration
Probably the second most power-consuming feature of any mobile phone is the built-in vibration alert. See if you can do without it.

Turn Down Ringer Volume, Keypad Tones and Speaker During Calls
If you're mostly indoors, like in the office or at home, a low ringer volume can go a bit towards saving your battery. Most phones also have DTMF-like keypad tones, which are not necessary if the keypad has decent tactile feedback. I keep them turned off most of the time, you can try it too. Volume of the earpiece when you're on a call can also be lowered, and that helps too.

Disable Voice Clarity / EFR / Voice Privacy
Almost all phones now do Enhanced Full Rate (EFR) for voice communication that consumes a little more power. In most cases, the enhanced quality of EFR doesn't make a difference thanks to the high noise levels in our city. Keep it off, you probably won't miss it. Some phones (mostly Samsungs) have a 'voice privacy' feature which can also be turned off to save battery.

Turn off 3G / GPRS / EDGE
Most 3G/UMTS/WCDMA phones keep searching for 3G coverage by default. In India, they'll keep searching till 2008, draining your battery, so go to the network selection screen and choose GSM-only. If your phone has a secondary camera near the screen, it's a 3G phone. Check your phone's specs on the website if you aren't sure. Sometimes, even regular GPRS or EDGE connections stay active in the back, so make sure you specifically disconnect when you're done browsing the web.

Use Bluetooth and WiFi Only While Transferring
If you only use Bluetooth occasionally to transfer files to and from other devices, there's probably no point keeping it on all the time. Most phones only come with an on/off setting for Bluetooth, unlike the 'Turn on for 10 minutes' setting available for Infrared in some phones (mostly Sony Ericssons). People tend to forget about Bluetooth being left on after transferring the file avoid doing this. Same goes for WiFi, if you're phone has that.

Here's another tip find a USB cable if your phone supports recharging via USB. The Motorola RAZR/KRZR/SLVRs and most Windows Mobile Smartphones have a standard miniUSB slot that can use the same cable as most digital cameras. You're more likely to find one of these lying around somewhere than a charger for your phone, unless it's a Nokia, of course.

Finally, the last tip is not very recommendable, but it is something to consider if you've tried everything else above: don't use the phone too much. Of course, you can't use the camera and media features (most Samsung phones won't even let you, if the battery is low) but you can also be a bit choosy while answering incoming calls not all of them need to be answered. This is even more true in case of unknown numbers!

In this post i am going to show you how to find out when you are infected with a RAT or Keylogger, without using any complex tools. Now i believe most of you might know that you need to have an internet connection to make a RAT or a Keylogger work, which would mean, if you are not connected to internet, you don't have to worry about being infected with RAT or Keylogger. Ok, so for those who have internet connection and think they are being infected with a Trojan, here is a little guide that can solve your problem.

1. Now every program has their own process which can be seen on task manager. So the first thing to do is to find out which process the Trojan is being attached to. If you see some unknown process search that on google. A good hacker will always makes sure he hides its process with a Windows based Process, for eg. svchost.exe or something like that.

2. If you cant find, then the next thing you can do is use cmd (to open cmd prompt, Click on Start--->Accessories-->Command prompt).

3. Once Command Prompt is opened, use this command: netstat -an |find /i "listening"

Note: The NETSTAT command will show you whatever ports are open or in use, but it is NOT a port scanning tool!

Now we wonder What this Command does? This command will show all the opening ports. Now check for any unknown port.

4. You can skip step 3 if you want, and can do this instead.

Open command prompt and type netstat -b

Now this command will show you the active connections with the process with their PID (Process Identifier) and also the packets.
Look out for SYN Packets and the Foreign address its been connecting with , check the process its been associated with, check the ports also. If you find that its connecting to some unknown ports, then you can say you have been backdoored.

5. Go to your task manager. On the top of it, click on View---> select Column---> Tick on PID (Process Identifier).
Match the suspicious Process with the Processes In task manager, check PID also.

Now most of the RATs resides on Start up. How to delete them from start up?

a) Go to regedit ---> HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current version\Run
On the Right hand side, check for the process name which you find on step 4. if its not their. Check at
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run
OR
Open Cmd prompt & type start msconfig. Go to Startup tab, you can check the startup process there.

Internet is an amazing virtual world where you can "virtually" do anything: gambling, playing, watching movies,
shopping, working, “VoIPying”, spying other people and for sure auditing remote systems.

The security testers’ community has a large panel of security tools, methodologies and much more to perform
their pentests and audit assessments. But what happens if you find yourself weaponless.
No more Top 100 security tools, no more LiveCDs and no more exploitation frameworks. A security auditor
without toolbox is like a cop without gun.

Nevertheless, there is maybe a way to rescue yourself from this nightmare situation.
The magical solution could be Firefox and its extensions developed by ethical hackers and coders.
This article comes as an update for what we posted previously about how to switch your Firefox to more than an usual simple browser. It was about application auditing.

Here is an updated list of useful security auditing extensions:

● Whois and geo-location

o ShowIP : Show the IP address of the current page in the status bar. It also allows querying
custom services by IP (right mouse button) and Hostname (left mouse button), like whois,
netcraft.
o Shazou : The product called Shazou (pronounced Shazoo it is Japanese for mapping)
enables the user with one-click to map and geo-locate any website they are currently
viewing.
o HostIP.info Geolocation : Displays Geolocation information for a website using hostip.info
data. Works with all versions of Firefox.
o Active Whois : Starting Active Whois to get details about any Web site owner and its host
server.
o Bibirmer Toolbar : An all-in-one extension. But auditors need to play with the toolbox. It
includes (WhoIs, DNS Report, Geolocation, Traceroute, Ping). Very useful for information
gathering phase

● Enumeration / fingerprinting
o Header Spy : Shows HTTP headers on statusbar
o Header Monitor : This is Firefox extension for display on statusbar panel any HTTP
response header of top level document returned by a web server. Example: Server (by
default), Content-Encoding, Content-Type, X-Powered-By and others.
● Social engineering
o People Search and Public Record : This Firefox extension is a handy menu tool for
investigators, reporters, legal professionals, real estate agents, online researchers and
anyone interested in doing their own basic people searches and public record lookups as
well as background research.

● Googling and spidering
o Advanced dork : Gives quick access to Google’s Advanced Operators directly from the
context menu. This could be used to spider a site or scan for hidden files (this spider
technique is used via scroogle.org)
o SpiderZilla : Spiderzilla is an easy-to-use website mirror utility, based on Httrack from
www.httrack.com.
o View Dependencies : View Dependencies adds a tab to the "page info" window, in which it
lists all the files which were loaded to show the current page. (useful for a spidering
technique)

choose in the jsview options. This allows you to open the source code of any web page in
a new tab or in an external editor.

X.509 certificate can either be displayed in PEM format (Base64/RFC 1421, opens in a new
window) or saved to a file (in PEM or DER format - and PKCS#7 provided that the
respective patch has been applied - cf.
o Firebug : Firebug integrates with Firefox to put a wealth of development tools at your
fingertips while you browse. You can edit, debug, and monitor CSS, HTML, and JavaScript
live in any web page
o XML Developer Toolbar : Allows XML Developer’s use of standard tools all from your
browser.
● Headers manipulation
o HeaderMonitor : This is Firefox extension for display on statusbar panel any HTTP response
header of top level document returned by a web server. Example: Server (by default),
Content-Encoding, Content-Type, X-Powered-By and others.
o RefControl : Control what gets sent as the HTTP Referrer on a per-site basis.
o User Agent Switcher : Adds a menu and a toolbar button to switch the user agent of the
browser
● Cookies manipulation
o Add N Edit Cookies : Cookie Editor that allows you add and edit "session" and saved
cookies.
o CookieSwap : CookieSwap is an extension that enables you to maintain numerous sets or
"profiles" of cookies that you can quickly swap between while browsing
o httpOnly : Adds httpOnly cookie support to Firefox by encrypting cookies marked as
httpOnly on the browser side

The process is called EICAR test which will work on any antivirus and was developed by European Institute of Computer Antivirus Research. Here is a step-by-step procedure to test your antivirus.
1. Open a notepad (New Text Document.TXT) and copy the following code exactly onto it, and save the notepad.

Any antivirus when scanning this file will respond exactly as it will do for a genuine virus/malicious code. This test will cause no damage to your computer even though the antivirus will flag it as a malicious script. Hence it is the safest method to test the proper functioning of any antivirus
