Beat the Heat with Bargain Summer Movies

Local Baker Starts Birthday Cakes 4 Free Chapter in El Paso

We all know how kids get all excited about their upcoming birthday and the should be! Birthdays are special. But sometimes, it’s hard to be able to get one important birthday celebration piece: the cake!

That’s where Birthday Cakes 4 Free comes in! Local baker Julie, owner of Joolz’ Sweet Creations, has started an El Paso chapter of Birthday Cakes 4 Free.

Birthday Cakes 4 Free helps by providing a free cake for the celebration of a child’s or senior’s birthday.

“Our mission is to help celebrate their special day and let them know they matter in hopes that this one act of kindness will last a lifetime.” says Julie.

Who is eligible: children 1-18 and seniors over 65 who are financially or socially disadvantaged. There is a required questionnaire that needs to be filled out. This can be done via email or over the phone.

If you would like to nominate a child or senior to receive a free cake, please contact Julie at birthdaycakes4elpaso@gmail.com or call (915) 247-7997.

Julie is also in search of volunteers who are available to bake/buy cakes for the eligible children/seniors. Those interested can contact the chapter, information will be kept on hand and volunteers will be contacted when needed.

MEGA Play Date at Freedom’s Crossing

There is going to be a MEGA Play Date on Saturday, June 15th!

The fun begins at 10am with a showing of MEGAMIND at The Grand Theatre. Tickets are just $3.50 for all ages! Price includes popcorn and a kid’s drink. After, join the FREE and fun-family activities at the Play Area from 11am-2pm.

EPISD to Offer FREE Breakfast & Lunch

The EPISD is participating in the National School Lunch’s Seamless Summer Option to provide students with breakfast and lunch at 30 sites this summer.

The program is open to children from 1 to 18 years and there is no eligibility requirement. Although dates and serving times may vary for each campus, breakfast is scheduled to be served from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Sites serving breakfast and lunch from June 12 to June 26: Cielo Vista, Lundy, Park, Powell and Roberts elementary schools; and Bassett Middle School.

Sites serving breakfast and lunch from June 12 to July 11: Coldwell, Crosby, Western Hills, White and Zavala elementary schools. Dates may be subject to change.

Sites serving breakfast and lunch from June 12 to July 18: Burleson, Mesita and Tom Lea elementary schools; Henderson, Magoffin and Morehead middle schools. Dates may be subject to change.

High school campuses offering breakfast and lunch from June 17 to July 18 are: Andress, Austin, Bowie, Burges, Chapin, Coronado, El Paso, Franklin, Irvin, Jefferson/Silva, Transmountain Early College and Sunset/School Age Parent Center high schools.
