The first part is the 5th grade band. Madelyn is playing the trumpet. Then we have the 2nd grade class singing and then the 5th grade class singing. This was a contest sponsored by the Army Corps Of Engineers where 27 area schools competed. The students from each school were chosen by the teachers as the best science students in their class. There were 2 students from 4th grade and 2 students from 5th grade. The student teams competed by learning about different ecological subjects and had tests. The team or school with the most points at the end won. Madelyn's school placed first out of all the schools. It was a simulation of a pioneer school in 1854. Each of the students assumed an identity of an immigrant from the period. They performed three plays and then had a graduation ceremony where they all received a graduation certificate. The day started with rain but soon the rain stopped and they had a great visit to the zoo.
